Love the pancakes and ham breakfast.Coffee with cream is a dream taste of the day. Sometimes the cinnamon bread just whips me away to my childhood.The big breakfast is for the long days.Always filling is their Short Stack of pancakes. Fluffy, filling the whole 8inch plate .
I hoped for a good brunch and the food was really good. The server was just a little bristly but she did her job. Thankfully, we had a good time and enjoyed our meal.
Had a pleasant first ever visit to this restaurant. Came with 3 children, and they were so patient and helpful with them. Offered to cut up their pancakes for them, and also helped box up our food once we were done. The food came fast and was delicious! Only paid $40 for 2 adults and 3 kids to eat. Definitely will be returning to this restaurant!

There was a roach in my French fries and cheese was all over the box when it was delivered to us and the hamburgers were Raw and pink and we had our stuff delivered two of us

What a TREAT!Oh my goodness the food was DELICIOUS and the wait staff was AMAZING!John Boys fed six of us for under $60...now I know you may be questioning the size of the portions.The portions were well worth the amount of money spent along with the quality and overall flavor of EVERYONES meal.Thank you to each person at John Boys!Well be back when we visit Alpena again.

The food is great and the environment offers that small-town-family-feel one expects to get from a restaurant. The rating could be improved to at least 4 stars if the service was given more passionately, though Im sure that could be gained for regular customers that the employees recognize.
Was in for breakfast 10/21 and ordered the biscuits and gravy. Disgusting with Italian seasoning or basil. Waitress said thats the way the cook always makes it. Wasnt that way the last time I had it. Anyway, I was not able to stomach it and she took it away but not off the bill! Lost a long time customer.
Delicious meal, plentiful, and for the most reasonable prices we have seen in quite some time! Homemade coleslaw is delicious 😋

First time here. The staff was friendly and accommodated my dietary needs. The mushroom omlet was amazing and the decaf coffee was freshly perked. Definately coming back.

We got to the area late at night and most places were closed after we got our campsite set up. Not being from the area we managed to find John Boys on google so we decided to eat there. The food was amazing and the staff was so nice. I mean when 10 people walk into a restaurant at 2am wanting food and the staff does a great job, it is an amazing thing. It was a great experience all the way around.
Fast friendly service from taking my order to delivery. I had the Kitchen Sink Skillet. full order. Food was excellent. It looks small because its in a box instead of on a plate, but I was stuffed when I finished it.
Best mexican omelette lever had other day and great breakfast today awsome service!!
This place is great!! Homey atmosphere, food was delicious and came out hot and fast, our server was responsive and courteous. We left feeling full and happy. What else could you possibly want?!

I mean it would be really cool if someone would hang up the phone so I can place an orderEdit: placed my order at 1:44, a large supreme pizza, was told 45 minutes(an unusually long wait time for a pizza but alright, maybe they are busy) I get there at 2:15, expecting it to be packed, theres 4 people in there(3 seated, one waiting on food) oh well no big deal, I showed up early, so Ill wait, its now been an hour and 15 minutes since placing my order and Im still waiting. Highly unsatisfiedSo after an hour and twenty-five minutes of waiting I get my pizza and its undercooked... Whoever is back there in the kitchen, please do the culinary world a favor and find a different profession, because clearly you have no passion for food.

I have ordered from there before with a 352 Florida number, good service and food. I Orderd fries and gravy with onion rings, all home made by them, and was delicious. I have a new number from Michigan 989 and they blocked me from calling, so I cant do business with them again. Dissapointed in that.

First time here. We had all you can eat Friday night fish. Meal was very very good. We highly recommend John Boys. Waitress was,fabulous tonight, dont know her name but she was awesome. .
Nice place. Good service. A bit dated, but clean.My hot wife and I both had meat lovers omelettes and they were good. We are nothing avoiding carbs, so no taters or toast, but they offered us several things to substitute. I went with cottage cheese.I was a bit intrigued by their cheese and cottage cheese omelet covered with chili, but to much of a coward to try it this morning. Maybe next time. Well be back.

Out for our annual geocaching trip around Northern Michigan and we had heard this place was pretty good. Stopped by and had their pizza and chili dogs. Definitely recommend it as the food was good and service was as well. Glad we stopped when we did as the weather turned nasty later on and we decided to head back to Grand Rapids.

This diner was a quaint small town atmosphere type of eatery. The cinnamon french toast was outstanding and the bacon was some of the best I have had from my small diner experience. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere.

That was disgusting!I ordered the breakfast sandwich.Raw bacon I requested well done.The English muffin was so hard I think I cracked my tooth on it.Coffee was mediocre.I wonder if all the great reviews are by family members.Disgusting interior, flies, not the most friendly of staff.Over priced.This will NEVER happen again!!!!What happened to all the sit down restaurants in Alpena???

We stop here every time we go fishing at Long Lake. Great food, prices are awesome for the food you get. Seems to be a different lady working every time but they have always been polite and prompt. Ive never been in unless it was morning so Im not sure about lunch/dinner but i would definitely try it if we were in town then.Five stars all day!!
Wonderful service and food. Food tends to be very heavy on the stomach, so eat light! Not much seating area, so try to visit outside of the dinner rush window. Prices are fair.
Authentic down to earth and big yum. But its a small joint, so be prepared to do e outside, takeaway, or get lucky!
Pretty good late night option when you have to feed the need. Menu is diverse, yet simple and the grilled chicken sandwich was surprisingly tender and juicy. Staff was pleasantly engaging for 11 pm on a Wednesday. Its definitely worth a look!

Food was really good. Robyn did an excellent job, but the service was horrible. Three of us were together, and everything came out around the same time. The other two I was with got their food, and then mine sat while the waitress messed around behind the counter. My friend waited an hour for a refill that he eventually asked for, and we sat for almost 30 minutes waiting for our bill while she did nothing. We were 3 of maybe 6 people that had been in there, so to say it was busy would be wrong.

The food was very good. The service not so much. We had to ask for coffee and get silverware from another table. It appeared as though the wait staff was new. It will not deter us from going again. We like the food and usually have good service.

If Im being honest, its hit or miss on service and quality of food. Sometimes the food is prompt and perfect, while at other times its cold and cheese isnt properly melted. But still a reliable place for breakfast.

John Boys what can I say that we dont know.. good food, for a good price, nice portion size.And 24/7 woot not to mention takeout and delivery.Our waitress brewed a fresh pot of coffee the moment we walked in so we wouldnt have old coffee that is a huge Plus.

The best burgers I have eaten since moving to Michigan!! The staff has always been very friendly and accomodating also. My wife and I go there late at night to get the double cheese burger and fries and to chat with the other night owls. I cant comment on the rest of the menu because I am addicted to the burgers. Great place!

You guys have an amazing delivery driver named Tom he’s always on time and very nice and appreciative of any tip he gets! If any delivery driver deserves a raise it’s definitely him I almost dropped my food tonight and he caught it for me!

A good place if you need some late night food. The food isnt bad but its not fine dining either. It can get busy around 2am with a somewhat annoying crowd but thats too be expected. Its always an experience. If you dont have a ridiculous John Boys story to tell, than you are not a local.
The breakfast buffet is great. Very friendly staff. Try the homemade rye bread. Its my favorite. You can purchase a loaf to take home

Duane LancasterThe weekend night crew can handle everythings get handed to them. They take care of everybody that walk though the door and the phone. They have your good drunks and the bad drunks that start small fight . The crew jump right on it get broke very quickly. With the police on the in a sec . By a min they are here to find take them out . This night is a awesome. I give them 5 stars any weekend .
Walked in got my coffee waited 20min not waited on at all yet waitress helped a guy that walked in and phone orders. 4 others walked in got there order taken by this time been an hr finally 1hr 20 min she brought me my 2nd cup coffee i said oh now that you helped everyone else your ready to take my order since you totally forgot about me sitting right in front of you at counter she said sorry but that didnt help that i sat there that long had to go no order for me
We stopped by for the first time. Very small dining area with a down home feel. Its like your at your grandmas for Thanksgiving! We had the breakfast buffet, which was stocked with lots of staples. Egss, bacon, pancakes, bacon, hashbrowns, corn beef hash, bacon, etc.The prices seem very reasonable. The taste of the food was very good. Service by the waitstaff was helpful and pleasant.Stop by anytime for a quick bite of good food!

Wow where to start. The Steak and cheese Hoagie was over seasoned and all the cheese was in one end. My antipasto was made incorrectly and was missing the cheese. Almost $8 for 4 crab Rangoon stix that looked anorexic at best. The only highlight of the order was my Strawberry shake which was delicious! All in all I will save my money in the future and order else where. Not the first time our order has been a train wreck but definitely our last time from here!!! UPDATE: 18 hours after consumption and my guts are still gurgling. I have spent more time in the bathroom on the toilet then any where else today. I will be calling monday.
Hoagie bread was good, but sandwich wasnt what I ordered. Asked for banana peppers and got green peppers. No bacon in sight, though it was listed as being on the sandwich. Also wasnt hot. Service was ok. Dont look at the dirty floor...

Fish taste fishy
Timely service, but the food was cold and soggy, and they didnt have my bill right when given to me. They hadnt totaled me for one of my items, and double charged me for another. Youd think youd have that figured out before given to the customer!! I understand mistakes are made, but this was plain out not paying attention.
24-hour operation is much appreciated by the late-night weekend patrons. Breakfast is bomb here. I havent tried anything else. Servers are on their A-game.

I have given this place so many chances, in the past, dinning in and a lot of delivery. Lets start with dine in, at least if not more 90% of my orders are wrong in one way or another, now mind you I order right from the menu so they shouldnt have an issue making these item. I dont change much, maybe no tomatoes or add something, etc. I have been in this fb industry for the better part of my life, so I know how stressful the public can make you, in turn I keep my orders simple. The other night I wanted Nachos, so I called and asked for the chips to be seprated from the toppings so the chips wouldnt be soggy, simple right? Well an hour and 10 mins later my order arrives after being told Were not busy ATM, so it shouldnt take more than a half hour, give or take cool I said thank you. I open my food up, the chips were good, but the rest was a giant failure(The straw that broke this camels back). I open the other box to see a pile of refried beans with maybe and I say maybe a table spoon of meat, no cheese, and just lettuce in the other box. Well lets call them and ask them why there was no cheese on my Nachos, and how theres very little and I mean little bit of meat mixed in to the pill of refried beans. Now I was upset but I still kept it polite. You know what, F🖕🖕K IT, I just realized Im just wasting my time writing this review, it wont change nothing. Ive got better things to do. So basically, if you dont mind shity, Food and bad customer service its the place for you.

Im sick of ordering late and never getting what I ordered. It shouldnt matter what time I order if you are open all night, I should get the same service anybody in day time hours would get. The last 3 times Ive ordered , theres always something missing on our pizza , missing sauces, or something we dont get. Our pizza tonight was horrible. Ordered pepperoni, sausage and bacon. It had pepperoni and sausage...but the sausage was all thrown into the middle of the pizza...none on the outside and did not have bacon. Sucks this is the only place to order late at night, because I wouldnt order at all if there were other options.
Its no 5 star restaurant but the people that work there are friendly and the food is outstanding. Ive been there 4 times now, I had something different every time and I havent been disappointed yet. I would highly recommend John Boys.
After being disappointed that Burgies was closed for the season, I wandered down the street and saw a great of 20 something’s heading in the door. I took this as a sign and followed in. After perusing the massive menu, I settled on a diner classic: eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. Everything was cooked exactly as I asked, and the toast was homemade to boot! If you think diner toast is amazing, wait till you try homemade bread made into diner toast. All of this came to about $6.50 after tax! This gave me a great opportunity to leave a 50% tip and still hit $10 for a fantastic dinner. I’ll definitely be back the next time I am in the area.

The food here can range from questionable to delicious, depending on the cook. Its a great spot to hang out at night and get a coffee or a quick bite, however. One of the only restaurants open 24/7 locally.

They dont take care of the customer. I asked for a better nacho supreme that I got the nite before and they told me that they couldnt because the owner pre makes them at 5 oclock in the morning. 2022-07-19Friendly folks, mediocre food. We came in town for a shipwreck tour and grabbed lunch. We got a chicken sandwich, mushroom Swiss burger, chicken tender basket, wimpy burger, and a grilled cheese. Coleslaw seemed really wet and they didn’t have Dr Pepper. Locals came in and staff knew their orders already and the staff were friendly.

2022-06-29It was literally so good! I loved the Cinnamon French Toast, and their eggs were cooked to perfection! Their lemonade was a good combo of sweet and sour! The bacon is literally so good too! The cinnamon rolls were completely giant and so were the pancakes! I completely recommend this diner!

2021-07-08Was driving back down from Presque Isle when we ran into John Boys Restaurant for a quick bite. Place is open 24/7 which was awesome, but we showed around 1pm and was serviced quickly and had a very friendly waitress. The wait time for the food was a bit long but the place was full of people (we had 7 in our party as well) so it was to be expected. The food was served hot and tasted delicious! I highly recommend the onion rings & club sandwich. Overall I loved the atmosphere and pictures on the wall, and would definitely stop in again.

2021-08-21Their food is good, however they NEVER get my kitchen sink skillet correct. I always order with no cheese and EVER. SINGLE. TIME. it has cheese. Im allergic to cheese. The staff needs to either reread the orders or actually listen to the customer. Also ALWAYS make sure to check your food if you order TAKEOUT!

2022-06-16I ordered breakfast others lunch. All was good and fresh as well. Nice friendly atmosphere too. Restaurant and bathroom clean as well. I will be a return customer for sure. Thank you.
