I have died and gone to heaven. This is one of the best tacos platters I have had an ages. If God lets people into heaven by how good the cooking is, these people will have a front row seat. Surely Angels become humans and eat here. I had the chicken taco special with a crispy flour tortilla. Absolutely insane how good this is! Be sure to ask for the cucumber salsa. Its a thing of beauty. Thank you to the fine staff who worked on Friday September 4th. You made my life!
Love Jose’s! I’d never had crispy tacos before Jose’s and now it’s all I ever get.Crispy flour or corn are both delicious! Chicken and beef are awesome. Didn’t love the shrimp when I had it but others seem to love it.Not a super cheap place like some other taco places in the city and but you get a good amount of food for the $.
If you are looking for something authentic and brilliant flavors head over to Jose Tacos. Everything was well stocked when you walk in and it looks to be a family run restaurant. I ordered the fish & shrimp tacos and they were simply delicious, with the mild sauce and pico de gallo as well as the sour cream to pair it with was perfect! All to wash it down with a cold soda (the fridge they keep it in is amazing because that soda was COLD). As far as the customer service nobody is really big on words. They kept it short. But the food was enough.
Literally nothing new I can add to what already hasnt been said. Be prepared for a line out the door because the tacos are that good! Order online or over the phone, I just happen to get lucky that my first time there was on a holiday and it was slower than normal.A must eat cozy tacorita in the heart of Detroit and a must visit for any taco enthusiast.
Small Boutique sized🐁Good for a quick bite, date night, or a small group of 4 💏Busy lunch crowd 👨👨👧👧Take out offered 👉Easy menu of classic Mexican dishes🇲🇽Also offers chicken and burgers on the sideStaff is cool🍔No public toilet 🚽🚫Dine in table service offered 🛄Causual and fun🎋Street parking only 🚗Mexican soda and desert offered 🍬Had a good time here😁
The ONLY Mexican restaurant I go to 😋. A little pricey, But I promise you its well worth every dime. Their Watermelon and strawberries lemonade is so delicious, I could buy it by the gallon. Ive tried just about Everything there and I cant remember to take pictures because once I open the box and taste my food. Game over!! Its gone. Hope youll enjoy it just as much as I do.
Ive been eating at Joses for over a year since I work up the street. Usually its perfection! However lately it has been absolutely terrible.Im over giving them chances.Everything has went way down. The customer service. Quality of food. Most importantly the cleanliness inside.Just save yourself the trouble and go to another location!!!
This is a small place but the food is incredible. It is authentic Mexican food. Even the beans and rice are so delicious. The portions are very big as well. I usually get a burrito and it will be delicious and filling for the whole day. Highly recommend if you want an affordable, delicious meal that fills you up in downtown.
This is a little hole in the wall, word of mouth kind of place and it is amazing. Ill dream of the tacos. Service was super friendly once they had a moment to breathe. My only complaint (except for the line out the door to get in to order, but when the food is this good, its to be expected) is that I dont live close enough to make dinner runs. This is a must EVERY trip to detroit.
The quality of the ingredients are good but I didnt care for the extreme amount of salt/seasoning on the meat. It took away from the other flavors. Id go back and try it again because theyre reasonably priced for being downtown. Maybe they just dumped a little extra seasoning on the meat...
Been here several times over the last year. Food is always consistent, fast and fairly priced. Delicious and authentic, closest food I found that compares to what I had growing up in New Mexico. The deep fried flour tacos are a favorite and must have. Took my coworkers and they were happy, satisfied and still talking about going back. As others have stated, it is a very small cafe inside and cramped quarters, so plan on takeout on busy days and times if youre im a rush.
Found this small taco place right before going out this past weekend. I guess because tacos have become so popular for restaurants lately Ive jumped on the bandwagon and always seem to be looking for some tasty ones (for the record Imperial in Ferndale, Bakersfield in Detroit & Diegos in Shelby Two are past favorites). But this place is so very close to them...Id probably place it as a tie with Diegos. This is listed under the sub heading authentic Mexican food. Of the 5 of us that went, we pretty much ordered every type of 🌮 they had. Beef, chicken, shrimp, El pastor, etc. All 5 of us walked away very impressed with the taste of these delicious tacos. 5 different types of shells as well. Tortilla, soft corn, soft flour, crunchy corn and crunchy flour. The crunchy flour shell was one I havent had or seen before and the texture was excellent. The price was cheap 2.50 per taco, the service was very fast and our service great. Add to that the cucumber water (that was free) and its an amazing place for lunch or dinner. The place is very, very small. 5 tables I think is all they have so dont bring a large group. But definitely check this tiny, tasty place out!
I absolutely love this place. I was searching for mexican near my office when I stumbled across this gem. You’d never know it was there unless you were looking for it- and you should be. I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything I didn’t like. Chips have the perfect amount of salt. Guacamole is delicious and the salsa has the perfect balance of vegetables and sauce. The food is delicious- I’ve yet to try something I don’t like. Highly recommend this place. You can’t go wrong.
Tiny but charming place. Loved the photos of Guanajuato and the colors on the walls.I had the chicken enchiladas, they come with mexican rice, refried beans and a small salad. I also order a side of jalapeños and onions. My husband had the crunchy steak quesadillas on flour tortilla. We tried the mild and spicy salsas. Everything was delicious. Not one thing was dissapointing. The service was friendly and fast also.
I LOVE this place! They know how to make great chorizo tacos with the perfect amount of spice. Their nachos are great, they have amazing watermelon water, a fantastic selection of delicious food!!! I never know what to get, honestly, everything is so good! The staff is also tremendously helpful. This place is wonderful!
First time food was great. 2nd time ordered steak tacos dinner $13.11. The steak cut in tiny hard cubes, seems to be old and heated up by microwave. Refused to refund $13.00 or exchange for chicken tacos dinner. Only offer $6.00 refund. Very rude and hostile on the phone, told, it wasnt their fault if I didnt know what I wanted to order. By the way they charge extra fee if you pay with charge or ATM card.
Love crispy corn tacos here! Brought the family for Taco Tuesdays and they loved it as well. Beef is really good but the steak tacos even better. Very flavorfull. They also sell Jarritos pop do my daughter was super happy. She loves the lime flavor. The cashier is the server and shes friendly!
Ive only been to Joses one time, so take the following with a grain of salt... With that said, I absolutely loved the food here. It tastes great, and I recommend giving this place a shot. However, Im rating this place 3/5 stars for one reason: lack of space. This, in my opinion, isnt normally worth 2 stars, alone. But theres a very limited amount of seats here if you choose to dine in. But, the worst part is how crammed everything is in the small room. Regardless if youre dining in or taking out during midday, theres not much space for movement. Anyway, this may not be a problem to you, so give this place a try.
Joses Tacos is a nice local hole in the wall. I ate 3 tacos and would have given this place 5 stars if the beef tacos texture wasnt so mushy, their chicken however was fantastic. Their seating is also a little uncomfortable since it is such a small place. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend traveling through detroit.
Friendly staff . had high hopes of discovering a good taco place in detroit!! tacos didnt have much flavor. my group of friends tried about all of the taco protein options and was disappointed we could not find anything that stood out. place wasnt very clean in the front and didnt seem as clean in the back as well.
Tried this place on a late Saturday. Had a few tacos chicken, steak, and chorizo. Out of the tacos that I tried I personally liked the steak the best. The service was great and for not being in Mexican town this place was better than expected. I will be sure to return here in the future.
I went to this place today looking for keto tacos meaning that I wasnt able to have any corn or flour tortillas. So they made me a tortilla out of cheese and it was absolutely perfect. I got the al pastor the beef and the shredded chicken taco and honestly everything was so perfect I wouldnt change a single thing.
This place is okay if youre downtown, but having gone to numerous restaurants in SW Detroit, this one is considerably more bland and pricey! Yes you pay more likely because they pay more to operate in the area. I will patronize them because of location, but its just not as tasty as what I am used to. I get their spicy green sauce and that helps.
My wife and I stumbled upon this place when the parking spot in front was the only place to park. We were originally going to Dillas Delights (about a block away), but after buying our coffee and donuts, we noticed this place while walking to the car, and decided to put the donuts in the car and grab a taco. So happy we did, these were the best tacos I have ever had in my life! I got the soft corn tacos with mexican sausage, my wife got the crunchy corn (deep fried) with steak, and we were both just blown away!! Definitely worth trying, and well be back to Detroit just to get more. Absolutely incredible.
Its a small hole in the wall taco spot. It has only a few seats but the service is fast enough to compensate. I seen everybody from construction workers to police officers eating lunch. The tacos are average but the size and price of the plates make it a great lunch deal.
Among the myriad pleasures found in Detroit, and there are many, Joses Tacos ranks as one of the finer quality eateries. Nestled in the heart of downtown, JT trades authenticity over commercial vapidity, never once feeling dull or grilling in its visual taste. Of course, its the food that counts: being wholly lost in a dish that is a product of such careful imagination that, amidst all the chaos that is downtown, the inner logic of this impressive restaurant can produce a moment of such organic quietude.Joses Tacos is less a product of creativity than an act of creation. The accomplishment is without equal, but it’s the sublimation of those efforts into a deeply personal experience that is the lasting effect and elicits the compulsive desire to consume more and more of what it has to offer. Eating here, I could recall seeing my family in Mexico for the first time, the welcoming atmosphere and love brewed in every meal. Taking that first bite at Joses Tacos, Im still feeling like that 10 year old.
My favorite tacos in the entire city!!! Including downtown, southwest, and suburbs!Their chorizo is off the chain - reminds me deeply of the flavors of Barcelona, Spain. You can get everything traditional style with just cilantro & onion, or USA style with shredded cheese, lettuce & tomato. Deep fried Ice Cram.Friendly staff, mom & pop feel. Literally 4 tables and chairs inside.Eat Al-fresco in the nearby historic Harmonie Park!
Ill start this review by saying Ive never had tacos so good. I go to mexico frequently and it has been hard to find a place as good even in mexico..... however I write this review PISSED AF because I dont live in the area so I have to drive pretty far to get there, but this is the 4th time that I have come all the way here to them being closed. Like how many days do you guys need to take off!?!? You guys are closed on so many random days for NO REASON. Very unprofessional and I think I need to start my taco search once again.
On my way to the music hall and saw this little shack. Because I work in the area stopped by for lunch. Them enchiladas was on jamb. The rice is good too. Not everybody got good rice. Salsa on jamb too. I need to try something else but stuck on them enchiladas. Usually there is a line, if in a rush, call ahead.
Good tacos. Over priced. No menus available so if you use the menu that’s Available online be prepared to be at least $3-$4 more than those prices. They do not give out itemized receipts not available . They are more than willing to write you out a handwritten one. Only menu with prices is in the restaurant no to go menus
Food is not bad, but overpriced for Detroit. Less fast service and a couple bucks more expensive for what you get (and no lunch specials I saw) than Mexicantown. Probably good for professionals with offices right there, but if you have time to drive, better to go to Southwest Detroit.
So we just moved around the corner from here and had walked by once to see no one inside, on the way home two people were sitting outside eating and their food looked good so we made a mental note to definitely try it out. Being from California and having spent the last 10 years on the east coast where mexican food is tex mex at best I had my reservations...but thank you Joses you have restored my faith in mexican food outside of...well ...mexico.I had the chicken enchiladas and they were so delicious...like I dream about them delicious...like i wish you were open as I write this so I could hit post and then walk around the corner to order some!

2021-08-31Was in town for a business trip and found this little gem near my hotel room. 3 tacos and a drink for 8 bucks. All 3 were absolutely delicious. Food came out fast and the lady taking orders was very nice. Recommend the crispy tacos on white, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back before I leave!

2022-06-08My friend and I stopped here on our way to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit a block away because we were hungry and didn’t have a lot of time. What an incredible surprise! The staff was friendly, the food was ready pretty quickly and the best part is the food was delicious. My friend had the wet burrito and I had a half order of nachos which was still a large portion. We highly recommend this place. I only live a half hour away in the suburbs and I’m very tempted to drive out there again just to eat there.

2021-06-05Perfectly average tacos. Got the carne asada on soft corn and they were alright. Hot salsa didnt have much flavor. The beans and rice seemed pre-made.

2021-05-10I have only been to Joses Tacos a few times but every time I have been there, the staff have been very friendly and helpful. They help answer any questions I have on the menu. The food always of great quality. It is easy to past by this place as it is pretty small and off to the side (downtown Detroit location). They deserve more recognition.

2022-06-13I tried this place for the first time last week, and the tacos and salsa were the most delicious tacos I’ve ever tasted. However, on today, the meat was bland, greasy and the shells came from a box as opposed to homemade like they were on last week. I don’t think I will return.

2022-07-27I got steak and shredded chicken, street style corn tacos with cilantro and lime. Steak was better as chicken is white meat which I am not a fan of, but still tasted delish! I added verde sauce and got a side of guac to add as well. 10/10, as well as the rice was great! My s/o got the shrimp tacos, corn tortillas fried with rice and beans and he also said those were great too! If anything needed to be improved, I’d say pricing as it was basically $40 total. I would say they are also on the larger side of street tacos, as i have gotten else where smaller.

2022-06-04This is my absolute favorite restaurant and I havent had better tacos anywhere else and I travel all the time. Service can be hit or miss but its a busy restaurant so I get it. I eat here or eastern market several times a week.
