Comment: I brought My Rocket Giotto evo R Espresso Machine to Kanen in September 2023 for repair of burnt out wires coming out of the main switch. Just past the warranty period expired in January 2024 the machine stopped working. I found that the same wires were cooked again. The one problem wire was not replaced by Kanen and it appeared that it was poorly attached to a connector which was shorted again. For DIY folks, you can save hundreds of $ by looking on the internet. I correctly repaired my machine for $6.00 in parts.

Comment: I had a Breville barista express that was leaking at the group head. Charged $140 to put in a thin shim above the same gasket, which worked for a few days at the most. Emailed for more advice, but never heard back. I ended up calling brevellle support and spending another $210 to get root pressure problem fixed (with a guarantee that if it didn’t work, they would send me a new one), and I’m super happy. I ended up doing that . So might solve your problem, but your mileage may vary.

Comment: I would not recommend doing business here. I paid over $500 to have my Breville espresso machine fixed. The first time we picked it up, it did not function so we brought it back. Went to pick it up the 2nd time and noticed the hot water did not flow continuously, missed any typically sized cup and spilled into the tray. They kept it for another week or so before eventually giving up. I asked for a reasonable refund given there were unresolved issues...they refused, never provided any type of counteroffer and instead threatened to charge storage fees for keeping the machine.The biggest issue here boils down to customer service. The owner, Sam, was aware of the situation, but never spoke to me until I asked for him when I eventually picked up my machine with unresolved issues. Interestingly enough, it seems hell reply to negative reviews, but wont answer an email to serve his customers. I wouldnt recommend doing business here and if you do, think long and hard before paying an invoice before services are delivered...we learned the hard way!

Comment: Unfulfilled Promises and Wasted Time: A Disappointing Encounter with Kanens Repair ServicesI recently had an experience with Kanens repair services that, unfortunately, left me quite dissatisfied. I entrusted them with my Breville espresso machine, which they promised to diagnose within two to three weeks.Regrettably, the process extended to over a month, during which I had to repeatedly prompt them for updates. After this lengthy period, I was informed that my machine could not be repaired because he could not get access to Breville parts and he offered to recycle it. This was despite initial assurances that they typically could fix Breville machines. Consequently, I was left with a significant pre-repair fee ($150) and no tangible results. Kanens only suggestion was to send the machine to Breville, but they stated that Breville was hard to get in touch with.Feeling disheartened but still hopeful, I decided to send my machine to the manufacturer. To my surprise, Breville responded very quickly, politely, and sympathetically. They indicated a repair was actually not possible at all and instead they resolved the situation by giving me a brand new machine.This outcome left me questioning the month-long process and the incurred $150 fee at Kanens shop, which resulted in no progress with my machine. I was under the impression that the staff at Kanen were experts in their field, could handle Breville machines, and I had faith in their initial optimism about the repair. Unfortunately, this faith was misplaced, and I ended up with a prolonged waiting period and an unnecessary expense.I write this review not with the intention to harm but to express my disappointment and hopefully to assist others in making an informed decision. I believe communication and accurate diagnosis of the issue should be the cornerstone of any service industry, and it appears there is room for improvement in these areas at Kanens.

They told me it would take up to 6 weeks but I had it back in 2-3. They also sent me a great video of them operating my coffee maker. It made pick-up quick and easy, because they didnt have to demonstrate it while I was there. And I didnt have to worry that it didnt work as I drove it home as they already demonstrated that it does. But the service was marvelous, and the estimate and work were completed faster than expected. (And when you see how many coffee machines are in there needing fixing you understand the wait time!) The two people I spoke to were very friendly and explained the whole process. I especially liked the video of my fixed machine brewing a perfect cup of coffee, with the technician explaining what had been repaired. Comment: I found Kanen Coffee, LLC. online when I was looking for problems with my expresso. I found their videos explaining that some of the breville expresso machines leak from boiler gasket causing a short. Excited, hoping I just needed a gasket, I ripped into my Breville and indeed found a active leak at thermal block(not a boiler but same function). Looked into thermal block hoping to find failed gasket. Instead I found what looked to be a failed thermal block. Contacted Breville they stated that part can no longer be sourced. Couldn’t find anything else showing for that part. So I contacted Kanen aNd Sam replied quickly asking for more information. I sent a picture and Sam stated that it was time for a new machine because unfortunately there was no way to repair. I appreciate the quick honest response. Thanks

Comment: There are only about four Bay Area businesses that repair espresso machines. Their website looked the most professional, so I ended up going to them. I made the mistake of calling around after I already paid the deposit, and found out that they’re repair prices are on the higher-end. My repair ended up costing more than I was initially quoted, otherwise I’d give them 5 stars. Their turnaround time of six weeks isn’t the quickest, either; however, they did seem the most experienced. My machine was overheating and is working great after the repairs. If you’re price-conscious, I recommend calling around.

It stopped working and I googled espresso machine repair and came across Kanen Coffee. I was jonesing for a coffee) and the expense to fix (But not more than BUYING a new Breville!) I went ahead and left my baby there to be fixed. When I got her back... WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It is operating better than it ever has. The crema is perfect. The steamer is making great foam. I guess I didnt even realize how sick she was when I brought her in and now it is like having a WHOLE NEW MACHINE--these guys are experts at what they do! Comment: I needed a repair on my 2013 Breville dual boiler espresso machine. Luckily I found Kanen Coffee just about 45 mins from my house. After a helpful email exchange, I made an appointment. Sam met me and asked about my machine. We agreed on a plan to diagnose and then he would provide an estimate to repair. The cost to diagnose would be applied to the repair. I got back the estimate in about 2 weeks, and authorized the repair. A week later, the repair was completed. Sam even posted a youtube video to show my machine working again! Im very pleased with the quality and responsivness of Kanen Coffee. Also the price was very fair considering the work required. I knew Sam would have to remove the steam boiler, which was quite complicated on the Breville.

Comment: After months of research and multiple attempts to purchase a good quality espresso machine I finally settled on Kanen Coffee to purchase the Quick Mill Andreja Premium. My previous efforts were through a larger east coast company that did not provide the service I expected for a high end machine. All things being equal, that is, most companies specializing in selling espresso machines are going to sell them for about the same price, whats left? Customer service. If anything goes wrong with my machine and I need service under warranty I trust that Kanen Coffee will take care of me and my machine. Sam was very responsive through the whole purchase process and, as my luck would have it, when he received my machine it needed a part before he could set it up and test it for me. Sam provided regular updates on the status of my machine via email and helped me through the initial growing pains of learning to use the machine once I got it home. One week later they contacted me by email to say that in addition to the $140 deposit I would need to pay an additional $170 to have the machine cleaned even though the machine had been recently completely cleaned and a new steam wand installed. Nothing was mentioned about the cause of the leak. When questioned they said they were unable to find the cause of the leak. They kept to the deposit. I brought the machine home and it immediately started to leak again from the inside-also making strange sounds.Wasted money and time.

It was a relaxed and informative session with the owner. If/when I have the cash, Id buy that same machine and buy it from them. I also was able to engage the owner to visit my home and help dial in my machine. He did this as a pay by-the-hour service. Again, very relaxed, helpful, and informative. But also efficient as he was mindful of the time and hourly rate. And, yes, we got the machine dialed in pretty well. I thought it was money well spent. Im delighted that we have a local business like this and wish them well

Comment: I have a DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso machine from 2003 that I used almost every day for 14 years, frequently 2 to 4 times a day. Two years ago it began making a crazy noice while still making coffee, but rather than wait until a disaster I brought it in to Kanen. It a great place dedicated entirely to fixing expresso coffee machines, with many on display. I saw other machines like mine coming in and leaving fixed. A great job was done on mine. Parts were replaced, everything was cleaned and it has worked perfectly and smoothly ever since it came back. Im grateful for their advice on cleaning, they were cordial and engaging, and I will definitely go back if I have any future issues.

Comment: My Delonghi espresso maker was not performing well anymore, so I took it to Kanen. They were very professional when I took it in and went over the process of assessment and possible repair. They updated me via e-mail of the progress and repairs that needed to be done. They contacted me before the estimated completion date to let me know the machine was ready. When I picked up the machine they went over the repairs that had been made. Overall very professional. Would recommend to anybody with a complex coffee maker.

Comment: I brought in an Expobar Office that had quit responding or heating. I also had asked for a minor modification to its feet, it hadn’t any. The old girl turned out to be a bit of a riddle but rest assured they figured out what was going on. I got her back and to be absolutely honest, it’s the best it’s ever run or sounded. Great communicators and great service. I’ll be bringing my very old Gaggia Espresso in for a good going over. Thanks again guys, you rock!

Comment: I had a horrible experience here. The hours are inconvenient (9:30-11:30, 12:30-4:30ish, closed weekends, not guaranteed to be there) and you need to book an appointment for pickup or drop off well in advance. For such an exclusive setup, I was shocked that upon arrival I was alternately ignored and aggressively disrespected, made to feel clueless and not listened too. I came in seeking help, and paid $130 for it, and expected courtesy and respect. I suppose there is a culture of snobbery in the coffee world and I got to experience it fully here. They would not keep the machines box while it was being assessed which left me carrying it around for the rest of the day. Lastly, they did not repair or tune the machine at all. Had they listened to me, addressed my concerns, and actually investigated the issues I was seeing and explained what was happening, this would have been one thing, instead they just said they didnt notice anything wrong and everything was fine, and it was clearly my fault. Expensive price tag for me in time, cash, and inconvenience to be disrespected. Please try somewhere else or go in prepared for a hostile reception.

Comment: I was gifted a beautiful Expobar Office Lever and the pump was burned out. Kanen expertly diagnosed what was wrong with my machine... provided a detailed repair estimate and then ordered the parts and fixed my machine.The really took the time to do it right. The broke down my e61 grouphead and completely went through it. Replaced all the seals and worn moving parts... replaced the group head filter. They totally clean the entire grouphead and then put it back together. They also replaced the air valve and did a citric acid flush of the entire machine. And, they had to replace the pump at the end and did not even charge me labor since it was not in the original estimate. Pretty nice.One of the coolest part of the service was that when they are done and email your invoice, they put up a video on youtube showing them operating the machine. They test the steam wand and the hot water wand. And then they pull (a most delicious looking) shot through your machine so that you can see it all working. Classy!After I had the machine home for a few days... I thought I had killed the machine. I emailed them and they quickly called me back and walked me through putting water in the machine. I had forgotten and it cuts off when it doesnt sense water.If you need repairs on a machine.. I highly recommend them. They also sell machines and will train you to use them! Nothing to be intimidated about... just come talk to these folks! They will up your espresso game by 1000%!

Comment: I shipped them a DeLonghi fully automatic espresso machine from AZ to repair. They contacted me to confirm the behavior, and were able to reproduce the issue and fix by replacing the solenoid valve. It is worth sharing that upon arrival the unit seemed to be performing correctly, but they stuck with it, uploaded videos to confirm what was not working and got it back to a failed state. I note this because we have all sent items in for repair only to get them back and they still dont work correctly. This is why I gave them 5 starts! Great Job! Thank you.

Comment: My Rancilio Silvia died, or went to sleep, (no heat). Called Kanen, who explained how the machine works and alerted me to the existence of an overheat switch that might have tripped. Ten minutes later I was back in business. There was no pressure to bring in the unit and Sam spent a good ten minutes with me on the phone. Thanks Karen!

Comment: We used them a few years ago to repair a home machine. That was fine. We recently called again to ask about repair on our five year old Saeco Via Venezia, for which the steam wand had stopped working suddenly. Water came out of the brew head rather than the wand. They told they would charge $125 to diagnose the repair, and if it needed a new valve, the total would come to about $300. Way too much for a semi-automatic machine that costs about $400 in the first place. They no longer seem interested in working on such machines, focusing all their attention on superautomatic machines costing thousands of dollars.I then called Home Espresso Repair in Seattle (see their website). They have a flat rate of $65 for this kind of repair, plus parts; they thought it likely they could fix it for $100 or less. We had used them years ago and they were great, so I was inclined to do this. But they suggested that before I send the machine to them, I try sticking a paperclip up the steam wand to clear away any clog. The fellow i spoke with said he thought that would probably do it. Voila! it did. So we now have a funcitoning machine again for no cost.In short, Kanen may be ok (I dont know) if you have one of these superautomatic machines with built in grinders that cost $1500 or more, but I wouldnt bother if you have a semi-automatic (which, by the way, make espresso that is entirely as good, perhaps better depending on whether you like the proportions used by your superautomatic.)

Comment: The new location on 4th Street is very convenient for drop off and pick up. The projection for completion was a week early. Espresso machine is tip top now with needed maintenance and repair completed.
