Good old fashioned independently owned auto parts store. Gary is a really great guy whos passionate about old cars. I use King for repair and painting needs on all of my cars, new and old.

Second time trying to get help from this place only to be told they do not do shop work after 5:00 P.M., even though they are open until 7:00 P.M.. Called back and talked to Gary and he hung up on me. Will not be trying this place for a third time.

2020-11-09Been dealing with Gary since way back at Best Auto on Van Dyke and 21 1/2 mile. I always go to King or call Gary and see if he has or can get what I need before I shop anywhere else for my automotive needs. Best place around.

2021-08-16I came to King’s with a cylinder head where its counterpart engine suffered a head gasket failure, and wanted to evaluate its condition, even more a difficult task was a few exhaust manifold bolts pulled out the threads in the head and would need repair. After inspection, I was told the head is leak free, flat, and yes, will do thread repairs via helicoils. During pick up after work performed, I was warned “make sure the manifold bolts up 1st which puzzled me because this is supposedly a machine shop, and precision should be taken into account. That day, I did so and I could not even do so, the thread repairs were so crooked, the bolts themselves where hitting the runners of the manifold pipes. After experiencing this, I lost all confidence that the head was even properly inspected with now knowing more metal was needed to be removed for 2nd attempt. I was frustrated, and decided to get a new head. I returned to King’s to give feedback and asked to be compensated for thread repairs (not inspection fees) and was only offered and given half .I was calm and polite, and thank them for telling me to verify the manifold bolts up flush 1st, but what grinded my gears was after explaining the crooked thread repairs, I was told “You’ve brought us a Junk Head and “I knew that one in the corner wasn’t going to work” , if it was indeed junk, why did they attempted to repair and charge me for it. Why didn’t they send me onto the path for a solution then, instead hopping it’ll maybe work out. Also, I was shocked King’s did not offer any parts for up sale (gaskets, bolts, fluids, specs, etc.), they’re an automotive part store/machine shop?If you’re in need of a engine machine shop, I would recommend bypassing this one.

2016-05-26I rented a Budget truck & car dolly here for a cross-country journey from Gary (the owner), and had an outstanding experience.The truck was in decent shape, but trailer was pretty beat up and we had an issue with one of the trailer lights a few miles after leaving. Oh well, we figured you get what you pay for and expected to get screwed on service fees when returning the rentals.However, this is where it got good: Gary took plenty of time out of his afternoon (the following day after renting them!) to help us get the trailer back in working condition for the long drive. He went so far out of his way to make sure that we would have a safe & hassle free drive, all out of his own will. It worked and the journey went smooth. (Well, the trailer ended up getting stolen after drop-off..but thats a separate issue with the security at the destination rental place).In the end, I highly recommend King Automotive and especially the owner. I cant speak for the quality of Budget equipment, but the guy renting them here is 100% honest and a terrific guy to work with. He clearly carries his work close to heart, and I respect that.
