For a place that sells itself as a higher end gym, this place is extremely mediocre. The locker rooms are not very clean, the bathroom smells like a gas station bathroom and is not deep cleaned at all. The 2 main distinguishing features of this gym that I pay extra for are the hot tub and sauna but the hot tub is ALWAYS closed. And the sauna is often closed as well. The equipment is old, rusty, and some of it needs to be replaced. The staff are not very friendly, infact some of them are flat out rude, especially when I ask about the hot tub. And since I signed up they have brought the closing time down from modnight to 10, which really sucks as I often need to work late. I am currently looking for a better gym.
Worst gym Ive ever seen in my life. Place is filthy. Equipment is trash. Management is horrible. Looks like this place was abandoned 6 months ago during the Apocalypse. Youre better off working out in a random alley in Detroit, it might be cleaner. Hopefully the health department shuts this place down soon.
Place is just so dirty. Its disgusting. The bathroom are terrible. The pool area has so much rust and paint peeling off the walls. There is mold all over the ground in the pool area and just disgusting things always on the floors. Do not ever walk barefoot in this pool or bathroom area. There is mold all inside the vending machines to get drinks. And everything is outdated.Honestly, I would rather give this place a 0.***Update - picture below is algae growing on the side of the pool. My family will not be coming back****
It is 8:15 am and the place is FILTHY! Locker rooms are filled with tissues on the floor and people have their clothes on the ground. Lockers themselves are old, scratched and run down. Bathrooms were not cleaned and it shows! Moving to the cardio machines on the upper floor, most of them were both dusty and sticky. Worst experience at LA fitness yet. Makes me regret leaving planet fitness for this!
It was the first time I had been to the gym in a year. As you can imagine there were some changes. First, it was not busy. The gym had a table set up to allow everyone their own bottle of spray disinfectant. That was cool. The locker room is where the biggest change is. There was only 4 or 5 lockers available for each section. The rest were bolted shut. Its bad if you have to change clothes. The next time Ill just bring the bare minimum. Kind of bad in a Michigan winter. Other that, they were doing the best they could.
Disappointed in the no mask required policy. At least half of the members do not wear masks while working out. Given that this is a state requirement (not to mention MI is number 1 in COVID cases) it is disturbing that the gym refuses to enforce. They do provide individual sanitizing spray bottles, which is a nice touch though doesnt make up for lack of masks. Overall the equipment is acceptable and the gym is generally not crowded and moderately clean.
It’s been a year since I joined LA fitness.. I do love the gym and most of the staff are great.. just a couple of things since I’ve reported to them to no avail... the sauna on the female side is down a lot! But it also has a smell over time kinda mildewy ( if u will) The floors have mats in there that need to be power washed.. the hot tub has been outta commission here and there also.. I do love all the equipment and the atmosphere and the people.. the members at this gym are the nicest and most easy going people I’ve ever met... like I said I love my gym.. if you wanna join a gym I’d say LA fitness a try .. I use to be one of the larger clients.. and was still treated with respect and dignity.. this means a LOT TO ME and now that I’m a much smaller ME I s still get treated well amongst the on staff trainers and front desk.. I feel like they never judged me just a thumbs up or a kind word which the world could always use a bit more of!!!
Its so expensive yet I didnt get to utilize anything that I paid the extra price for. When I started my membership, they sold me on the fact that there was a pool, hot tub, and sauna. The entire duration of my membership the hot tub and sauna were closed and they now limit how many people are in the pool and do not do any of the water classes. Waste of money!!!
If youre really going to the gym to work out and get some gains in, this location is the same as any other gym with extra features. everything for the most part works. my only complaint is that the bathrooms and locker rooms are really, really unsanitary. i would never walk barefoot in that locker room. also both the bathroom and locker room reek. Its not something i want to smell after some hard cardio. the bathroom and showers arent deep cleaned either. If you can put up with wearing footwear in the locker room at all time, you should be good.
Plan on being a member for life. Once you sign up and they have your credit card info they make it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel your service. I tried for way to long to cancel because I no longer live near a location. Every time I went in I was told I had to speak with a Manger in person 🙄. However no matter the time of day or location there was never one available. Ultimately I canceled my card and got a new one. Surprise. Then they returned my calls and emails when they couldnt charge my card anymore. Not good business.
This is one of the better La locations in the area. Better equipment , staff could be a bit more friendly and open and smile and acknowledge members more imo. Had a 2 year membership and before Covid it was clean but could have been cleaner. Overall if you care about quality equipment and good price I would join. Love this one a little more than the one in southfield on 12 mile worth the drive imo.
The work out area is well kept and clean. The weights are older but they do the job. The locker rooms can use a good handy man. The handles and doors are all loosened up and beat. The sink was well kept though. Otherwise I think it is a nice place to work out. The pool and sauna was open when I was by.
There are other choices in the area for gyms. This one is filthy. On more than one occasion, I have seen poop on the underside of the toilet seat. The locker room stinks and just seems unhealthy. They only have 1 trainer that seems genuinely interested in her clients. I have observed new folks working out and not using equipment properly. Staff merely walk by without offering advice on the proper way to use workout equipment. I am sorry I prepaid since I cannot get my money back if I cancel. If you choose to join LA, I would recommend a month to month so you have some flexibility if you find the same issues I have . Good LuckUpdate ! My contract is up and not once did anyone from LA contact me about my membership. Any other club would have been trying to keep a member, not LA Fitness. Glad to be rid of them. Cannot believe the incompetence of the management/membership staff. Bye !
The kids club is great now. My daughters love the women who work in there. As far as the gym, its a good gym. Its always clean when Im there. The staff is funny acting. Sometimes they speak, sometimes they dont. Then again, theyre probably just busy. Price wise its good.
So-called music is annoying noice.About 1/2 of the tread mills have one or more functions that render them useless: manual button does not work, either the incline or the speed buttons do not function, the enter button does not function (if you want to use the device for more than 20 minutes you are out of luck)Mentioning this to the staff, I was told the machines are old.No treadmill has a note regarding its short comings.
I have been a long time member here. You will see mostly adults and middle aged fit people here.Good place if you like racquetball or basketball.The staff there is just okay not the best. One issue is they sometimes open an hour later then scheduled and close an hour sooner than usual. That’s probably due to weather or short handed on staff.
Great place to workout if you like free weights. I do warn members against putting cell phones in the lock boxes on the wall. Some of the girls at the front desk along with a few long time female members have been known to go into these lock boxes and hack unsuspecting members phones. I wouldnt trust a couple girls who work out every day. Please use appropriate caution with your electronic devices.
The place is often dirty. The pool, hot tub and sauna are broke too often for the fee. Also, its impossible to cancel your membership even if you go in and I did several times. They just keep robbing me blind. The desk people leave a lot to be desired with their oh well attitude. Not impressed.
Honestly this place is terrible. I signed up because it was close to where I live and was the best option to get a lift in before work in the morning. With that being said, I’ve had some time to workout here and I’m not happy with my purchase of a membership. This club is beyond disgusting. The locker room is full of grime and mold spots on the corners. I literally only go in there to wash my hands after lifting and use paper towels to touch everything in there. The weight equipment is broad (thus the 1 star review... otherwise I would say “I wish I could give it 0 stars”), but it is rather dated and the pads aren’t clean. The bars and plates have wears rust spots on them that make it annoying to take off the 45s. If it were an old school gym I’d be cool with everything, but it’s not like you can slam the weight here anyways sooooo. If you’re selling yourself as a premium club, just live up to it a little. My best advise would be to get your workout done somewhere else. Somewhere you can lift heavy and not be judged, somewhere cleaner, no annoying sales people calling you all the time to do some stupid “fitness assessment” ... honestly anything other than here. Catch me here for another 14 months tho because I’m a fool who paid for it upfront to avoid their extra costs. Ayyyy.
Decent gym with large variety of aging equipment and sports facilities. As a long-time LA fitness member, I would say this one is well above average when it comes to the number of activities you can do here, but just below average in terms of the quality of the equipment, especially for cardio. Still my daily gym, as it all seems to maintained well enough. They keep the music low so bring your own.
Staff are not friendly. Mens locker rooms are disgusting. Gym is not fresh overall. Dirty and smells. Worse than any other LA Fitness Ive been to here in Michigan or outside of Michigan. There is a vending machine but nothing healthy nor protein shakes. Bathroom stalls often out of toilet paper. Seems like an easy fix that would make quite a difference.
Good gym but they need to work on house keeping. Hair and dust bunnies in locker room beyond what a daily good clean should have. They do not have spray bottles and a very limited supply of paper towels to clean machine after use. If it is hard people won’t do it and most don’t. Make it easy and most will.
Good gym. It is generally kept clean, but there are days where the whole gym takes on a funky smell, like an old gym sock. The sauna works MOST of the time. The front desk personnel could us a refresher course in greeting people. Avoid Spinning classes here - the instructor will barely take you above gear 14, if she even stays on her bike to ride with you...
This gym is pretty good to me. I enjoy the staff and group fitness classes. Could be way cleaner and many of the cardio machines are..janky. The spin bikes are in working order though. There was a great manager at this location that left approximately 7 months ago which is really a shame as he began improving the place greatly; there are now filtered bottle refill stations as a result. This gym is affordable and I am happy to be a member.PS. Jeanne is an excellent instructor if you are looking for a challenging Pilates class.
I had no issues with the locker rooms or staff. I travel a lot and go to many different locations & this one was pretty average. I workout first thing in the am, so this may play a factor in the cleanliness. Also, I have no desire to interact with others that early or while Im working out, so I appreciated the staffs lack of interaction.UPDATE : I recently had a baby and was looking forward to utilizing their childcare services, however they closed kids zone shortly after I gave birth. This was one of the main reasons I renewed my membership and has negatively impacted my attendance.
You get a free personal training session when you join. Be sure to request Breanna. She is young and strong, but she can relate to us seniors. Gave me a fun, tailor made workout and was fun to talk to. I will be back.. Breanna knows how to wear mask correctly and was very safe with me. Thanks!!!
Been a member of LA Fitness for several years and Im loving the new customer service! Kendra and Gabrielle are the Kindest and most professional staff members Ive ever dealt with! Kendra and Gabrielle immediately resolved my membership issue and made sure that I was satisfied with the outcome! 💯 AMAZING! Kendra and Gabrielle made me feel like a valued gym member, and give me a good reason to continue my fitness goals! Thanks Kendra and Gabrielle!
Ive been to many LA Fitness lcoations both in Michigan and elsewhere over the last decade or so. Id say this is one of the more run down locations, which is surprising given the location and clientele. Not the cleanest and it seems pretty old. They have all the equipment you could want for weight lifting, cardio, etc. Probably my biggest complaint is their fixation on sales. At least once a week when you walk in, they try to get you to give them contact info of people in your phone so they can try to sell them memberships. Its annoying and you have to say no like 10 times before they leave you alone... only to bug you again a few days later. They even asked for my snapchat contacts once ??? I honestly dread walking in for this very reason. I pay for a membership to get a good workout and mind my business, not to help them make more money!! Im cancelling my membership pretty soon... not just for the sales harassment, but it definitely didnt help.
Pool and hot tub are constantly down for weeks at a time sometimes over a month. Yet they want us to pay full price for half a club. There are flies and mold inside the shower soap dispensers too, most likely because they keep the ventilation off to save money. Nastiest gym I’ve ever been to.
Everything that was said about the spa being dirty and always closed is 100% true, the winter of 2017 the spa was closed for over a month. bathroom is always out of soap and or water soap, God knows whats with the soap. Staff is a complete waste of resources. the Club is in a very nice area, no clue why corporate dont care about it. Cancelled my membership and never going back there again.i think its time we start seeing zero stars and maybe negative stars.
Had an interaction with an extremely unpleasant and unhelpful employee today.I arrived around 4:20pm on 11/2/17 and wanted to use the pool. After changing into my suit and heading over, I saw 3 strips of caution tape blocking the pool entrance.I was slightly annoyed, but thought Id go to the front desk to find out what was going on.I approached the employee, Travis I believe, and asked why the pool was closed. He responded by telling me that the pool flooded and that it was closed. I asked until when, and he said until tomorrow.I looked over, both of us could clearly see that the pool was not flooded. I said The pools not flooded. He responded with I dont do pool stuff. I just works the front desk. Why are you holding an investigation? I was also told that I can call the pool company myself.He dismissed me to speak with the next customer, I almost walked out but I asked to speak with a manager.The managers were very reasonable and told me that there had been a power outage earlier and when the power goes out they shut the pool down. It would reopen later in the evening (not tomorrow).Why couldnt the employee at the front desk tell me that? Why was I treated like a 2nd rate citizen when all Im trying to do is use a service provided by this establishment? I was told by managementthat they had just experienced a power outage earlier in the day, so they were all a little stressed. I dont believe that that makes up for the way I was treated.
LA FITNESS - BLOOMFIELD HILLS location is the the worse! They never open on time, specifically Saturdays or Sundays. Today, 10/4/2020 wasnt any different than last week. Several people complained as we waited for someone to show up for work. I left at 8:10 to go to the Southfield Location. After I was done swimming, I saw another woman that was waiting with me in Bloomfield. She said she left at 8:45 because someone still wasnt there. We pay good money for our memberships. They least they can do is show up on time and do their job.
Additional notes. Almost all of the workout equipment has nonfunctional/broken heart rate monitors. The sauna is down for almost two weeks and the hot tub is broken again. I’m guessing neither will be repaired for a month.Still not being cleaned properly. Shower walls are never wiped down, mold grows on shower curtains and lockers smell. Cardio gear is never cleaned.Locker room bathrooms are always out of TP and hand towel paper and trash cans overflow.Place needs a major disinfectant overhaul and regular cleaning routine that extends beyond just the nighttime cleaning crew.In addition, all of the clientele is concentrated at 5:30 to 6:30 so available weights and cardio is limited.They are repainting and resurfacing courts but this is just cosmetic. Cleaning should be first.
A LOT of maintenance need to be done in this place .. rust on many equipment and the bathrooms are like those in gas station bathrooms, they’re old, smell and dirty. They also need to work on their lighting, its dark in places especially near the benches where the ceiling is low you feel like you are in a grave.Front desk not very welcoming.Editing my comment: 07/01/19:Originally gave them 2 stars and now I downgraded it to one star only. Bathroom smell keeps getting worse, showers are disgusting, locker room are getting worse and equipment filthier. They need to close down, FULLY renovate to the standard of the Zip code they hold and then reopen, otherwise it will always be the next door senior living exclusive gym.
Absolute worst LA Fitness and Gym Ive ever been to. Dont know when it was built, but the machines are at least 10 years old. Not only that, but they are more than 3 different brands of machine and none of them work intuitively. For example, a leg extension machine from Star Trac only adjustd at the pivot point and the ankle rest. In fact, the ankle rest tends to fall out if youre not careful with the adjustment. No changes to the seat can be made.Beyond the machines themselves, the layout of the gym is the most disorganized Ive seen. Leg machines are mixed with chest press machines, squat racks are spread to the perimeter, and more. Additionally the lighting and disrepair of the ceiling makes it feel like youre working out in a dungeon.Ive lived in 4 states and have had an LA Fitness membership the entire time. This gym is the straw that broke the camels back, and Im cancelling my membership to go elsewhere.Avoid this gym at all costs.
So we thought we start with this gym cause it wasnt expensive. After seeing everything and how everyone is. My trainer that I scheduled didnt even show up! So I didnt care for this place and did a free day at Lifetime fitness and loved it! Id rather lose 200 dollars to go to a really good gym then here. Now after only having the gym membership for 2 weeks its damn near impossible to cancel! They keep saying Yeah, Im the manager Ive fricken talked to 5 different people claiming to be a manager! I would just not come here! Terrible place, terrible employees and its run like it belongs in Detroit!!! Horrible place, dont waste money.
I go to multiple locations and this one is by far the dirtiest. Never has paper towel, toilet paper, and nasty locker rooms. Hiring one more maintenance person could have kept a lot of my friends around who left. I keep my membership out of pure convenience for this location and the occasional use of the other nearby locations that supersede quality of the Bloomfield location by far...
Locker room is disgusting, dustballs on the floor for weeks indicate no moping or even sweeping being done. Wastebaskets always overflowing. Sinks are a mess.Staff is unfriendly. The front desk is unmanned oftentimes for self check in.Shame, because the gym area is not bad.
If you come to work out and not looking for a 5 star treatment this gym is no problem. Dont expect friendly staff or spotless bathrooms, but its not filthy. The patrons who go to this gym are decent which is what i care about.I give it 4 stars because there is always machines available when i come. I would have given it 5 stars if they would not let soo may people into the work out classes,it needs to be a limit.
Very dirty gym. It is clear that mangment is just there to collect a paycheck. I know it has been said many many times, but the locker rooms are the dirtiest of any i have ever witnessed...and i have been a full time gym rat for 15+ years. Myself and a handfull of my workout partners are going to give it until summer and if no changes have been made, we will be taking our buisness elsewhere.
Just moved into the area and stopped in to check the place out and was very disappointed. Whoever is responsible for managing this fitness club should be fired! The business sign LA Fitness has two complete letters completely burned out, really? Does that cost to much to fix? The cub is filthy, look at the pool area to include the pool, just go look at all the human hairs on the elliptical machines, look at the garbage on the floors, really? I was upstairs opposite side of the gym, and could smell the funk from others which tells me the ventilation system is worthless. I dont know if Corporate knows how pathetic this location is being run, but they need to be told, and it needs to be fixed! It will only be a matter of time before some disease is floating around that place! I wouldnt give this place a dime until they start running the place properly!
LA Fitness is a decent gym with many amenities that I prefer (hot tub, steam room, and good free weight selection). The one very small detail that another gym has that LA doesnt is an elliptical with feet that move 360 degrees. That is the only reason LA does not get five stars. If the option to give fraction star ratings, they would get a very high four rating.
This club has more members than its designed for, and this makes it an unpleasant experience to go here. Its often impossible to find parking in the evening. Twice so far this month I have driven away in frustration after waiting for a parking spot to open while 10 others fight for a spot. If you do find parking, the locker rooms are really unworkably - over crowded, cramped and unclean. Why would they design the locker room to be so small when theres so much open space in this building?! So dont plan on working out and taking a shower on the way to or from the office, unless you want to be crawling over 8 other impatient and grumpy people while youre physically struggling to get dressed in the cramped space. I look forward to a new club opening in my area: one that is designed to give customers the quality of experience that they pay for.
Manager has rude personality and doesnt interact with her members. Today I went to the Bloomfield la.fitness and I told them I misplaced my scanner tag and was told if I dont have my license leave, I have been coming to this gym and a member for the last 3 years, looking this manager in the face at least 3-4 times a week and she couldnt use better discretion than that? The way it was handled this morning was in Very poor taste. Customer service poor, membership service poor.
Truly an example of a business staying open merely because they have a guaranteed passive Income from folks who never use their facilities.Someone passed out in the hot tub a week+ ago and the hot tub is still down. What a joke.it shouldnt take more than a week to get the water changed out in a hot tub. Yikes
Beware of malicious business practices!!!Before you sign anything, make sure you read the FULL contract.Don’t believe a word that comes out of the sales rep’s mouth, they’ll tell you anything you want to hear just to lock you into their contract.As for the gym itself, I would rather go to a planet fitness since they are better maintained, have better staff and higher quality amenities.
I dont go there to be social, but common sense customer service is always helpful, lacking for the most part here. The REAL problem!! The place if dirty, mind you the PATRONS of this facility are primarily responsible for the horrible pig sty condition they leave it in. Never thought people would choose to live like this. Snot rags, bandages all left laying around, the other patrons should call out the jerks who live like pigs. The facility in general is dirty and the whirlpool, is not hot, nor is it filled most of the time. The womans sauna has rarely worked. Could be a stellar place. Maybe hiring the right people would help but more likely ENFORCE the policies of...putting your weight back when done, dont be slamming your weights down, grunting and groaning so china can hear you! REVIEW these policies at the time of joining and then reinforce them when they are not adhered to.
The gym is nice enough, I havent had issues with the cleanliness, however the staff could definitely be friendlier. I also have an issue with the kiddie klub hours, they are never open at times that are convenient for me to work out, also the caretakers just sit around and dont engage with the children.
WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME . To all family and friends reading this Im telling you now that this place only cares about the money . I should have saw the red flags before I signed up with them 2 months ago . This company is shady . I love the environment and the equipment . Its the staff that is not professional AT ALL . I spoke with a Katie at the Bloomfield location about an issue I was having with my membership / training. Very unsympathetic and almost like I was wasting her time. Well umm Im the one Paying but no longer . Im cancelljng all my cards and accounts . Worst service ever . Should have stuck with planet fitness
Just spent half of my day signing up over the phone with an LA Fitness representative. Our #1 reason for signing up was the Kids Klub. Well we showed up to finalize our membership and get our key tags (with kids in tow) and guess what, they currently have no kids Klub. What a waste of time. Very disappointed after being so excited to switch over my gym membership.
This Gym sucks but the corporate is even worst. I paid for training sessions and wasnt able to go so I froze my account and called corporate to cancel my training session and only stay with the wants I already paid for only to find out a month later when they charged me another training session that they never cancelled my account so I had to ask for a refund which fortunately I got back but on top of that because of this issue I decided to cancel my account completely and corporate said I would have 30 days to use the training sessions I already paid for after cancelling my membership so I cancelled my membership and was ready to go use my paid training sessions when my trainer tells me he cannot schedule me because my training sessions were expired. I called corporate AGAIN (this will be like the fifth time counting the times I had to call about my refund which was a nightmare) and corporate tells me that I had 30 days to use my training sessions after they were cancel when the last time I called they told me it was 30 days after my membership was cancelled not my training sessions. I swear that every time I called corporate they would say something different and they were still trying to convince me to just downgrade and not cancel. HELL NO!! I would never deal with this people again. I lost more than $400 in sessions I couldnt take because of the poor training, professionalism and knowledge these people at corporate have. They are not synced at all and every time I called it was a different story. I work for customer service in a call center and I can see when employees are not trained well to know what they are talking about and I am telling you this people will screw you up over and over again. DONT SIGN UP!PS: Also tried talking to someone at the Bloomfield location and they are more focus on signing people up to get the commission that actually resolving any issue you are having with your account.
Dirty place. Lots of broken equipment. Hot tub is cleaned during gym hours (without notice). Management tells patrons other people are saying this about you ~ not very nice. Pool is niceand clean usually but small...4 lanes. Gray carpet, Gray machines... so boring / should not have carpet - should have rubberized floor throughout. Not enough room at the mirror. Weights are often not re-racked and hard to find. Not enough equipment. Only positive / location but that will be fixed with the new Lifetime Fitness going in at LLake and Tele. Ill look into that. I work out often and Im dedicated to working out at LA F, but I dont like it there. I feel tolerated there - not welcomed. Lots of people sit around on the benches doing nothing but talking on iphones. Im there to work out. Geez...
Disgustingly rude customer service. After walking into the doors and approaching the desk no on greeted us. I tried to get some softness out of their very serious faces by complimenting the woman at the desk about her make-up. She never said thank you, but asked to scan my mothers card. Upon scanning the card she then said sorry you dont show membership to work out in our gym because your from out of state. My mother verified that she had membership throughout the country.Instead of allowing us to work out anyway, or politely turning us away she smirked and said sorry it doesnt show that. The two women at the front desk whispered smirking as my mother called my dad to get things figured out. I immediately expressed that their customer service was very poor, and unsympathetic.We will NEVER come to this establishment ever!!
I go to this gym at least 4 times during the week. It is hard to find a spot to park at rush hour times. I mostly go either very early or near closing at night. The employees can be more hospitable but nothing disrespectful or rude. The place is very clean. Tons of machines. Obviously with the ballys take over population has increased and it is likely to increase even more with the new years approaching.
This is my second attempt at a membership there. I had a hard time canceling for non use. But this time its much worse. I signed up for a personal trainer there, was told that of course, my requirements week be met. Got assigned to their master trainer, by the name Tee. He didnt want to know what I wanted to do (, our what I have being doing as far as working out (as I am very experienced, just wanted to work on something specific) He had a horrible attitude. Refused to even talk to me about what his plan for me was as far as achieving my goals, and in the end told me he didnt have time to fit me into his schedule. I was lucky I was in my cancellation period so I canceled that. I ended up getting another trainer elsewhere and made a mistake telling them. Later on, I showed up there with a training partner, who spots me, and helps out with some heavy lifting, this trainer saw us and reported him as training me. Which, apparently, is against the policy. As we found out, if they deem that you are not working out enough while helping someone, they say they will tell you to stop or cancel your membership.So, of course, I decided to cancel the membership. That never goes smoothly. The front desk girl plays interference... but I have sent my stuff in by the certified mail. Theyll never get me again. Ill pay a little more to go to a place, where working out can be done without so much stress and horrible attitude that simply covers up incompetence.
I signed up for a guest pass at this location because it is close to my work and because I have been to the LA Fitness in Royal Oak and loved it. I have been looking around for a gym and wanted to see if this place would fit my needs/desires. Irvington, from member services, called me and said to come in to activate the guest pass, so I set up a time to meet. When I came in, I waited a few moments before I met him in person. He proceeded to ask me what my health goals are before showing me the facility.First strike - bad lighting.Second strike - limited equipment, including a postage-stamp sized pool.Third strike - overall dirty -- equipment needed a good cleaning and the air needed a spray of Lysol.Fourth and WORST strike - we came back to Irvingtons desk and he asked for my credit card. Credit card for a guest pass? Uh, what? He tells me that the guest pass really wont show anything, and that I need to sign up for a membership. I told him that I am not ready to sign up yet; I am still searching around. He pressed me, questioning why in the world I wouldnt sign up now. He said that there isnt a better deal out there. I explained that there are other reasons other than money; I have friends going to other gyms, and one of my considering factors is that I would like to work out with them. He haggled with me for several minutes, trying forcefully to make me sign up today, making me feel very uncomfortable.Then, after I told him firmly I would not be signing up today, he tells me that I lead him on. WHAT? I came to activate a guest pass, and thats exactly what I intended to do. I couldnt believe how brash the man was.The whole situation was rude and unprofessional. Before leaving, Irvington demanded to know why I wasnt going forward. I told him that I wanted time to think about the decision because I have a lot going right now, and he pressed me for personal details... Again, WHAT?All in all, I will not be back - not even to use the guest pass. This place was not professional and was quite sub-par compared to other gyms I have been to.
I inadvertently signed up for LA Fitness forgetting that I already had a membership on hold (which had been on hold for some time - at a charge of $10.00 per month). They couldnt find it when I registered because it was registered under a previous address. When I went back to explain the situation, I was essentially told that it was too bad but they would agree to stop the $10.00 per month hold on my previous account and rebate me $30.00. The right thing to do would have been to reimburse my initiation fee, but no chance. I tried three times, even talking with the manager, with no luck. This is lousy customer service - and is only one example. LA Fitness has gone downhill since they purchase Ballys - the facility is not kept to the best standards and from the comments others have made on this post it looks like it will take great effort to cancel my membership altogether. Never again!
This location was ok, you get what you pay for, it is definitely not as nice as Lifetime Fitness however it is half the cost. The reason for my two star rating is the cancellation process is not easy! if you choose to cancel most gyms you just need to do so in person which is what I tried to do on a Saturday. The LA fitness policy is only one person the operations manager Felica can process your cancellation and she only works m-f 9-6. If you work these hours your self it is extremely hard to go see Felicia on her schedule. The other option is to mail your cancellation to Irvine California, what a pain in the butt!! Why is it so hard to cancel something you no longer want!!
Since they merged with Bally... quality is way down... showers and lockers are dirty, facilities are crowded, staff has become rude. Unpleasant, and a rip off. Also, the manager, Richard Talens, is a useless jerk, claims to have no authority or control to fix things... so how is he a manager?
I like the layout of this gym. The machines are crappy and very out dated, some broken and with signs that say they’re being repaired. Some machines are missing pieces or handles to the weights section. I come here because of the location, but if there was an alternative LA I would be there in a heartbeat.
Yikes. Irvington, the short black guy, was very shady and unprofessional. He kept trying to push a sale on me and my friend when I activated a guest pass. He asked for my drivers license, credit card, and was very rude and unprofessional. I understand he has to make sales to meet a monthly quota via guerilla tactics.
I would give this place zero stars if I could. I brought my 4 month old baby to the day care and was assured that they would keep him in the special baby section, and page me if he cried or needed anything. I come back after my work out, hear him screaming and run back there and he was shoved in the back, laying in his car seat with a bunch of older kids flocked around him poking him with toys and nobody watching him!! The lady came over when I was grabbing him and says oh sorry, the kids wont leave him alone SERIOUSLY??? He was terrified and could have been seriously hurt with little to no supervision. All it would have taken was one kid trying to pick him up out of him car seat and dropping him on his head. Never bring your kids here.
I went to this place and was surprised by how bad it has gone down hill. One of the rudest trainers, WHOS A JUICER, BY THE WAY, came from world gym in Waterford. His name is Thomas. RUDE AS ALL HELL!!! He doesnt motivate ANYBODY and TALKS DOWN DOWN TO PEOPLE, ALOT! FIRE HIM!!! HES COSTING YOU GUYS ALOT OF MONEY!!!

2022-04-03Out of desperate need to find a new gym I began using my LA fitness membership through my health insurance. If this place weren’t close to no cost, there’s no way I’d choose to come here. The equipment is not well kept, in fact most of it is rusted with shaky or jerky belts and cables. I expected better and more from a gym of this caliber and frankly in this area. It seems the only option to get a decent gym is to sacrifice a squat rack, free weights, and other fitness club amenities by going to a PF or spending hundreds of dollars per month to join an athletic club or equinox.

2022-03-11I have been a member of this health club for 10 years. A year ago, I was totally fed up with the operation. Showers had empty soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers were empty, wastebaskets we’re overflowing, the hot tub was out of service more than it was in service, and there was inadequate cleaning. Over the last few months, since the new manager, Ian, has been around, the situation has improved dramatically. All of the above problems have been solved, and there is much deeper cleaning occurring. There are still some residual problems from previous years, such as the parking lot, which needs resurfacing, and the HVAC leak in the group exercise room. But these have been long-standing problems and I know the manager is working to resolve them. I would now feel comfortable recommending this club to family and friends.

2022-02-13Its an okay gym compared to the other LA fitness gyms. Equipment is a bit out of date, treadmill stutter from time to time, and the building is out of date. Basketball court stays dusty. On the otherhand there are friendly people there both employees and members. The classes are always going and its never too crowded. Good place to go get your work in and leave.

2022-02-24Gym is ok. But once you get to the pool in the evening, groups of teenagers screaming, splashing, swearing and even throwing chairs in the lap pool. Staff looks the other way, no authority present whatsoever. And this was twice in a row. Location would have been nice being close to my home but I will drive a few extra miles to another club.

2022-03-30It is a very dirty club. I looked in the sauna it was dirty the whirlpools dirty going into the place is dirty I do not suggest going to this one however the wallet troy/Birmingham is the best

2021-09-24How is this gym not closed yet? Health department needs to visit this place asap and shut it down. Within 10 minutes of workout here with a tryout pass, I knew I would not become a member here. Out dated, rusted broken machines and equipment. Who know how old the sweat marks are on the treadmill. Staff dont seem to care or have any personality or even look like they want to be there. The environment is dirty, water filters need to be changed, bathrooms are gross. Good luck finding a spray bottle to clean your equipment after use. Perfect place if you wanna get sick! Immediately signed up for Planet Fitness across the road when I got home.

2021-08-02I visited this gym while on vacation. Ive been to L.A Fitness gyms in multiple states. This location is, by far, the worst. It is in desperate need of a cleaning. I visited on a Monday, a day youd expect a business to look its best. This was not the case. The equipment is old, outdated, and in bad condition. The owner definitely needs to put some more effort into this business.
