Comment: Yo so the curation of films here is second to none in Los Angeles and I mean that, the folks programming this theater are brilliant. That said I have never had a more uncomfortable viewing experience in my life; the chairs in this this theater seem to have been designed by some kind of sadistic cinema misanthrope with the idea that intellectual films might best viewed in some kind of catholic flesh mortification ritual. I’ve been fortunate enough to see films on four continents in nearly every environment imaginable and this is, by a country mile, the most physically uncomfortable theater I’ve ever been to. I am not exaggerating when I say I would have rather watched this film in the middle of packed flight full of children. It’s upsetting because they show so many things I’d love to see on the big screen but my entire lower body is numb after two hours. Hard hard hard pass.

We grabbed some popcorn, drinks, and a pack of jujubes and were off.Inside, the Nuart Theater surprises with its quiet intimacy. The hushed atmosphere adds to the allure, transporting you to a place where the magic of film takes center stage. We were among a handful of patrons, creating an almost private screening experience in the massive auditorium.Our chosen film, Society of the Snow, unfolded on the large silver screen with captivating brilliance, earning a solid 10/10. Post-film, we took it upon ourselves to tidy up what little mess we made, a small gesture of appreciation for the staff.We parked just behind the theater on a residential street, and while I felt relatively safe during the late night walk, I can understand a small group of individuals having their reservations, but there was also parking on Sawtelle, which is a more brightly lit and busier street. Overall, the Nuart Theater is a cinematic gem that goes beyond screening movies; it crafts an immersive journey, leaving you overwhelmingly pleased with this hidden treasure of West LA.

Comment: I went to see Farewell My Concubine which blew the back of my head off. It was the first time Ive been to the Nuart since they reopened and it looks very nice indeed but I really dont like the new seating. When youre sitting down you have to recline whether you want to or not. I spent half the movie trying to figure out if there was a way to sit upright but couldnt. Anyone who knows the secret, please weigh in.

Comment: We love love the Nuart Theater. It is now owned by Landmark. The entire movie house has been remolded, but keeping the great neon on the outside.It is a one screen theater, thank goodness and it is so comfortable.They show art films, Indie films, older films and they are famous for their 11:00 pm showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show which is the most fun you will ever have at a theater. The audience dances and sings the songs, people dress up as their favorite character and they have a cast of actors who are on the aisles and the stage acting out the parts and just saying the most funny things. Some people go there a lot. This was our first time and we had so much fun. Do not take children unless you dont mind dirty language and sexual jokes. I took my grandson and he loved it. He is old enough to know what he is not allowed to repeat and he was welcomed by everyone. The people that go are super nice.The theater itself has a lovely lobby, great snacks and really nice staff. The place is very clean and as I said remolded. The seats are great. All new and they recline a bit. Soft and with a cup holder.They have a great choice of movies so go there and have fun. Parking is on the street or there is a lot near by. I got there early enough to just grab a free street spot--mind the signs.

I would definitely go back again and would recommend others to go as well.It was hilarious and just fantastic and cheaper than a regular movie ticket with way more interaction and much more fun than a movie. Comment: The first minor problem with the theatre is that there is only street/ metered parking; however, I only go on Sundays where street parking is free or, in the evenings where parking is free after 8 pm. However, I love that it is just one large theatre with sloped seating. I am able to see the screen at any angle. Recently, I saw Roma which is nominated for Best Sound and features ambient sounds in the movie. I was very impressed with the sound quality. Also, the prices are very reasonable: $12 during busy times as opposed to $18 at other theatres. The concession prices are less expensive as well. Note: this is a specialty/art-house theatre so if you love independent film, you will love this neighborhood theatre.

Comment: I have known this place for the past 42 years. At times they show some of the main stream movies but they are more known for their Indie type movies which draws big crowds. During the Halloween season they will show The Little Shop of Horrors and every Saturday night (midnight) they shoe The Rocky Horror Show. So, if you like movie that make you think, this is the place. Hey, the shot a Starsky and Hutch show there once.

The Nuart Theatre has live performances every Saturday night at midnight, but get there early to guarantee you will get a ticket, because they frequently sell out. The food is amazing, especially considering its a movie theater. Wine and champagne also available. You can even purchase accessories for the movie, in case you forgot to bring your own. Youre guaranteed a fun night at the Nuart. I highly recommend it!

Comment: Was having a good time until I saw the parking ticket for $73 on my windshield. Arrived and parked after midnight in a lot indicated on their map as free after 8pm. Shouldve paid regardless. Yes, it would be nice to indicate that there is no parking after 2am for the 12:30am showings scheduled... that might be delayed due to other events. Thanks!

Comment: Best kept secret in the Westside of town. Always courteous, always welcoming--you never feel left out of the conversation about what is fresh and new. Highly recommended for visitors, tourists and anyone who loves film. Try the popcorn while your at it, you wont be disappointed. There are many great restaurants opened around the area late at night for an early bite or late night brunch.

Comment: I have only really been here with the rocky horror picture show cast sins of the flesh, but every time I come it feels like family. Polite and helpful staff, fun and energetic crowds. Its a wonderful place to spend a day at. You can see full movies or shorts. You can see odd b-movies and blockbusters. You can see beautiful boys dressed as beautiful girls with almost nothing on(only on Saturdays at midnight.) I love the theater and it has become a sanctuary of sorts.

Comment: If youve never experienced Rocky Horror Picture Show in L.A. then the Nuart Theatre is a must. Its an interactive show so be ready to take part in the festivities--especially if youre a Rocky Horror virgin. Also, the only showing is at midnight on Saturdays. This theatre encompasses the weirdness that is L.A., and even though its located in West LA, its really reminiscent of Hollywood at night.
