Comment: 1. As an international student, I made my appointment to take the Drivers License written exam. After waiting for a while, it was my turn, and the woman tells me I cant take the exam, because they have to send my documents to Sacramento to review them, and that will take 4 to 6 weeks. The website didnt say anything about that, but its OK, I get it. 10 weeks later, I havent been able to take the exam.2. I registered a used car I bought (which I cant drive yet due to not having taken the written exam). Everything went fine at the moment, and the very kind man told me they would mail my title. 9 weeks later, I havent received my title.Today I called them again. Obviously, there was a more than 2 hours waiting time. I waited a couple times in the past, and they never picked up my call, even though both times they said the waiting time was around 1 hour and 30 minutes and both time I waited in line for more than 3 hours. This time I preferred to be called back. They called me back 4 hours later. Press 1 when name is ready to pick up the call. I pressed 1, nothing happened. The message repeated. I pressed 1 again. Nothing happened.The DMV is absolutely incompetent.

Comment: I was there 8:00 am in the morning on 6/18/2024 standing in the long line of people outside of DMV. Finally the security guy let me inside of the building where I had to stay in the line more while a DMV employee helping other customers from other line for appointments and disable people only. My line was not getting shorter at all. The other employee came to look what she was doing and came outside to announce that DMV is not renewing DL and car registration there since June 6, 2024. I came and standing in the line for 1hr 30 min for nothing to get copy of my car registration. What a waist of my time.

Comment: It looks like that the employees job is to make people come back again and again for the same reason because they play with peoples time, its easy if they have enough knowledge at the beginning and dont make people be in the office just because they dont have procedures clearly defined also they have attitude. Would be efficient make solutions on the first contact and not explore if they can help or not, it’s simple to say what we need and come back with everything ready. Always bad experience

Comment: I really wondered with all the technology and the budget. . all the government department have .. they still have lack of professionalism to fill their existing wich helping the people and to make thier life easier.. that office have bad attitude employees and the system to got service or appointment backwards.. they will tell you to come early 7.00 am. then you wait in line to take appointment slip so you can come in time after they start the service you wait in line to get in with another slip and number..then inside the office you wait until your number called so you can see the representative who will help you.. but if you have more than one issue like driver license and car registration.. they will tell you you have to tell the representative by the door about the anther issue you have .. why we go in circle !!when you try to renew your DL. using the kiosk ! it will take many trying to go through!!! because there are too many questions you have to answer.. and if the machine asks you to go back bottom .. go look to get through.. weird systemGovernment agencies should find a better way and make it easier for people.. social handicap!!

She was friendly, helpful and funny at the same time. We could tell that was very happy and grateful to be at work while helping others. Thank you and much respect from us. Great job, Makaeda.

Im sure it is a tough place to work, and maybe a bad day because window worker seemed unhappy. She lightened up later. Its the DMV not Disneyland. Dont expect too much and you wont be disappointed. However, small amount of parking spots available. I suggest even if you have an appt., make sure to get there 30 min ahead to find parking.

Comment: So So slow … they have 24 windows but only 7 windows working so slow in very busy times during the day and a lot of employees showing in behind back of windows just talking and drinking coffee, they didn’t do anything!!!! There’s no manager or supervisor to control anything!!!! Everyone working as he or she like !!!!! I will never come to long beach office again, Westminster office more faster and way more professionalUpdate:When they called my number, i went to the window with all my complete documents for transferring car from out of state and i have the original title in hand, the lady behind the window was so rude and asked for un logical documents and asked me proof that car wasn’t registered in any different state !!!! She didn’t even try to ask her manager !! Yea i forgot.. there’s no manager or supervisor as i said before 😏 So she didn’t complete the transferring and added notes on the system that( need proof for not registering in any different state)!!!! So I was disappointed but I decided to go to Westminster office with same documents and they transferred the title without any questions or any single hassle !!!!!

Comment: Another failure ! DMV gives out driver licenses to people that drive reckless, very limited way of thinking, modify their lights or mufflers to make driving even more dangerous ! I see every day accidents specifically in Long Beach. If you make those test better or driving checks, half of those people would never qualify to drive a car. The are danger to the public :( check your insurance rate, it probably went us because LB has a horrible record and zero enforcement !

I literally took a bus an hour to get to the dmv thinking that if I uploaded my documents that I could just show my drivers license to update to a real id. Go before it opens to beat the lines.CONS:- Email said to upload verification docs to save time, and even though they were pre-approved, they still made me go out of my way to print them at Office Depot.- Many workers are straight up LOSERS on a power trip, esp those in Room 2 (written exam room). A lot of customers are elder, immigrants, or both, and they understandably require more patience and clarification. The way the bullies treated them was disgusting, aggressively tapping on the computer screen and screaming in their ears. Sorry that you peaked in high school and feel the need to redeem yourself now, but take that pent-up anger to therapy instead.

Comment: It’s a good DMV, had several students pass their test at this DMV.Wait time is expected but overall clean DMV, parking is bad so would suggest this to be resolved.The examiners are professional and the dmv area is at times manageable for good drivers.The experience overall is good with minor suggestions.I would recommend this dmv to people who know the area pretty well.Thank you to the supervisors for proving good service and the windows 8 and 9.

Comment: Came to the dmv twice in one month, once to get my handicap placard and today to get a registration renewal. The lady at window number 5 has issues. She act like she hate her job, the irony I have got her both times, and she act the same both times. I tried to think that the first time she might be having a bad day, but the same attitude toward certain people this is just her demeanor toward certain people.The last time I told the lady that was taking the pictures that her co worker at window number 5 should not deal with people because she seem to hate her job, and I stand by that statement. I noticed she had on a boot, and since I was fresh out of 2 boots. I ask what happen to your foot “ She go nothing WHY” I said because of the boot. “She said my leg is deformed, and that’s why you shouldn’t ask people that” if I had a 1 dollar for everyone that ask me what happened when I was in my boots, I woukd be rich. First you are no better than anyone. Second people already miserable because they have to come to the DMV. Then to have someone like her with a really bad attitude to help them, that make the trip even worse. I see why Long Beach DMV have 3 stars, and it’s probably because of her.

When I entered I was told that the computers were down, to go home and make a new appointment. This is SO unfair. The soonest appointment I could get is for the end of August. Comment: Excellent RealID experience!Came here on a Thursday for my RealID at 0530 thinking there was going to be a line forming already. I was actually the first one in line. Wasn’t until around 0630 when someone else arrived then from there more people started to arrive as 0800 came closer. I walked in at 0800 and was out at 0815. Only took 15 minutes!If you’re trying to get your RealID here’s some important tips:1st) Make sure you submit your application on the dmv website before arriving! Otherwise they will send you to a room to complete the application. Just do it before hand.2nd) Make sure you get there super early. People usually start arriving around 0600-0700. By the time the dmv opened the doors (0800) there were approx 35 people in line…Just wake up early and get it over with!3rd) make sure you have the required documents plus some! DMV only needed my birth certificate and another form as proof of address, BUT me being unsure if they wanted other documents I brought all of my important documents that can be used as proof of address or identity such as marriage certificate, tax forms, bank statements etc. I would rather be safe than sorry and have everything rather than not being enough and be sent home with nothing accomplished then have to come back.4th) If you do get there early, bring a pop up chair and some entertainment.5th) They will make you take a photo for the RealID. Had I known this I would’ve gotten a haircut lol. So be prepared to have your picture taken.Overall this was the best experience I’ve had at the dmv. Staff that helped me were friendly, professional, and provided quick service. Being in and out in 15 minutes at a dmv is just a rare occurrence. Follow those tips I mentioned and you just might also have a quick experience as me.

Comment: This is an updated review from when I placed about 4 years ago. Since that time, the operations have improved dramatically. I was able to make an appointment for the very next day, my number was called within about five minutes. I will add critique for the two DMV employees that I worked with. It may just be a result of the environment, but the customer service skills need improvement. They were short with their answers, did not attempt to go into detail to explain what was you need it or why, and were pretty much dismissive. I was able to conduct my business and leave in about an hour and a half. All I needed was duplicate copies of registration stickers. Other forms of business may take longer.

Comment: I visited this dmv today and the receptionist ( red hair, short cut, very short bob) was very rude and dismissive. I waited in line to ask for a copy of my voter registration and when it was my turn I walked up and patiently waited . Didn’t rush her or even begin to speak to her. She refuses to look at me and with a disgusted tone she barked that she didn’t call any one up and that I needed to wait. I’m sorry but customer service is everything and so is delivery! The person who checked the documents of whoevers next in line said I was supposed to bring an additional document (which was not mentioned in my emails/anywhere online). Upon showing my verification email, she said I would still need it. I wasted my day today after waiting in line for a long time. I felt that was very inconsiderate of them. The lady there asked me why and I told her the engine blew back in 2018. She said to write that in a statement and ask for fees to be waived!! Kind gentlemen was helping us until the stereotypical Karen manager walked by, asked us for rental car paperwork, insurance polices etc. When my wife asked for my assistance, she was ridiculed for her accent, and was instructed not to call me. Comment: It is what it is. DMV staff determined to say no unless compelled by having all requirements to say yes. Appointment times are suggestions, once you arrive before appointment time-there is still a wait. On the plus side, making an online appointment was easy, uploading paperwork, and getting to this location is easy. The parking is plentiful and it’s cooler weather on this side of LA. The diverse clientele makes for nice people watching. The establishment is clean and the bathrooms are serviced. For DMV needs there are poorer choices.

Comment: I went to the DMV to renew my car registration and to apply for a real ID. My appointment was at 2:10 pm, and I got there about 10 minutes early. After driving around the parking lot a couple of times, I got lucky and saw someone backing out of a spot and I pulled in. The parking lot was full! I stood in the line for those with appointments, and it took about 20 minutes to get to the window. From there I was directed to go to room 2. I stood in line there for another 15 minutes before reaching the window. Then I was directed to a computer to fill out the application. When I was done, I was told to get back in line (another 10 minutes). When I got to the window, I was given a number and was directed to go back to the waiting room to wait for my number to be called. After another 15 minutes or so, I was called to a window. I paid my car registration fee and was sent to another line to get my photo taken for my real ID (another 10 minute wait). All in all, the process was tedious and time-consuming.

Every employee I interacted with was friendly - not just the bare minimum you hope from people who work in customer service - but genuinely friendly and upbeat. In addition to processing my REAL ID name/address change efficiently, they joked with me, asked me about my day, and actually listened for a response!While I was waiting, I observed employees speaking kindly to one another, helping each other out, and enjoying their work. My appointment was on a Friday afternoon, so I assume everyone was eager to clock out for the weekend, but they certainly didnt show it. They maintained fantastic attitudes and an efficient workflow despite it being the end of the week.I arrived just in time for my 3pm appointment, waited 15 minutes for initial review of my paperwork, then only waited another 10 minutes to be helped at the window. The moment I walked in to when I walked out was a total of 45 minutes and I left having accomplished the goal of the appointment with no issues. Given my past experiences at other California DMVs and DMVs in 3 other states, this was record timing.DMVs tend to get a bad reputation, but the staff at Long Beach DMV defy all stereotypes of the DMV experience. I appreciate how they approached their work and treated me as a customer.

I got in the returning line and then received a number and they texted me a link. The link was to a site that said my number and place in line which was really nice, so I sat in my car and waited for until I had less than 10 people in front of me. They sent me a text letting me know my number was coming up soon as well, which was nice. It was about 4:30 when my number was called. Unfortunately, I needed to take a written test for my motorcycle exam and they said it was too close to closing to take the exam, so now I need to go back again. A little frustrated I wasnt able to get it done, but I was glad they had a new system that kept my place in line and worked pretty well.

Comment: I got here at 5am I was 5th In line, set my chair up and sat back in my car until about 715. 10 min later 2 ladies came outside and gave the first 40 people an entry ticket everyone else got a slip to come back either later on that day or the next day. (Don’t ask any questions until u make it INSIDE THE BUILDING she can be rude)I highly recommend filling out a application for whatever you are handling before entry. Made that mistake had to fill out a application in rm 2 which made the process about 15 min longer. However once completed I sat for about 10 min and my # was called, the clerk was extremely NICE who goes by the name Angelica (ANGEL) she made everything smoooooooooth. I paid my fees took my pic and got out of there. Surprisingly I had a great experience. FYI.... dmv systems have not and probably won’t get updated it’s been the same since the beginning of dmv time! I went in on March 19 2021 she Was wearing a green dress with flowers forgot her name. by far the best experience I’ve ever had at a dmv.Now if I had a choice to put 2 reviews I would give it a -0 the lady standing outside taking temperature the day I went had the worst attitude I’ve ever seen. No customer service AT ALL!!! Someone asked her a simple question and she seem bother and answer so rudely. The pandemic affect world wide not just at the dmv so everything is crazy everywhere no need to give attitude. I was inside and all I could hear is a fight going on outside between her and a customer and she was saying all the bad words in the book . Just rude she needs to go or put her where she has no contact with anyone . Besides that everything and everyone I encountered were amazing.

Comment: I am not even going to talk in details about their service quality- DMV is already known by rude & unfriendly staff. I wanted to point out that I doubt if an equipment there is ever properly cleaned. I was brought to an eye-checking machine and asked to put my face forward to it. I felt disgusting since the staff didnt clean it before me, but believed that it must have been already cleaned due to the current situation. I felt sticky on my forehead and jaw, YUCK! and saw that the staff DID NOT clean it after me. I was staying there about over 10 more min. But NO ONE cleaned it AT ALL!! OMG!! I noticed that the staff was wearing the gloves, had a sanitizer and wiped out his desk frequently, but did NOT care about the machine that the public use??!! That was so disgusting that I tried to clean my face with tissues I had, and washed it several times after I came back home!!!

Comment: I went to use the renewal kiosk at the Long Beach location today. The staff members managing outside the door were helpful, friendly and cheerful. I waited in line briefly for my temperature and went in. The gentleman in the foyer area was also very pleasant and politely helped me with the kiosk to expedite the process. I have always appreciated the great service that the DMV staff and now, under pandemic circumstances, they continue to shine. Thanx!

I go back to the dmv to see if they can book me a new appointment. Since I can’t get what I need for 10-15 days since they only mail paperwork currently. Person outside sassy attitude maybe I should of called. No maybe your coworker should of gave better information I just tried to advise them to let the employees know to let other customers know about it’s online not in person at the Norwalk clerk office so they don’t waste time driving there. Comment: With times being as difficult as they are I have an expectation that people who deal with the public should be more forthcoming with information and not be irritated at the circumstances that they find themselves it is a blessing to have a job. my daughter and I recently visited the Long Beach branch and she had done the paperwork previously online it told her that The number she was given would serve as an appointment but 2-hour surprise that was only if there was a red stop sign that she had uploaded her information in its entirety. The young woman who helped her didnt disclose this and my daughter was disappointed to say the least so I had to then go up and ask specific questions to get to the answer which led to my daughter being able to upload the documents on the spot and get an appointment which took all of 5 minutes. I guess my point is that I shouldnt have to get out of the car to find out the information but it should be shared readily and happily to help people accomplish their goal and not have to visit the location again.

Comment: The worker in the front of the dmv, who are helping in the line, were not kind, were rude, and did not want to help answer questions to get clarity of issue even when there was no more customers to assist in the line. She was disrespectful and criticizing that I should have done process earlier. With this pandemic having a job, and being able to maintain one is not easy for everyone; and definitely we were in a tight situation to pay off the renewal 90 days earlier. Yet we paid, beforehand, and sticker never was given. Its already hard times to have workers be rude to customers who may be in a hard situation. Hopefully it goes better during this pandemic.

Comment: Best DMV experience ever....went in on Tuesday at about 1:30pm to apply for a Real ID/Drivers License. We had filled out the application online, uploaded the required docs and got a confirmation number last week. Walked up to the door, no wait. Gave the confirmation number to the lovely lady who checked us in, checked our temperature and gave us a number. Went in and within 5 minutes we got called up to window #1. The nice lady at the counter processed everything within minutes, sent us to take the picture, then went in to take the written test. We were in and out of the DMV in no more than 30 minutes. That’s a record!

Unfortunately we werent able to make an appointment so we came around 930am yesterday (9/29) just to be told that they already max the walk-in capacity and to come back the next day. She did warn us that people will be lined up starting at 4am and tickets will be distributed at 7am! We got here at 530am today and the line is already wrapped around the building. Please be warned!

Comment: Got there at 4:45a.m. At 7a.m. they gave me a DMV screened sticker. This allowed me to get in the door when they opened at 8 a.m. They only give out a few stickers. If you dont make the cut, they give you an appointment ticket to come back later the same day. Even then, they only give out a limited number of appointments from the same day. Bring a chair, and good luck!!!!!

Comment: Visited 08/27/2020. online it said 14 minutes wait time for no appointments all day, but this is wrong. Was told by worker that they give out about 100 tickets, with people waiting from 4am to 6am usually getting the tickets to enter. they hand out tickets at 7am or so, so need to het there early to het a ticket. then you can come back at your assigned time to go in, but you need to not be late! DMV is such a painful visit these days!!!

I know some people were turned away. The DMV opens at 8, and I was out by 8:55. This included me waiting in line to get my picture taken.My suggestion is that if you have to do anything at the DMV, plan to arrive really early.EDITED TO ADD: My DL arrived 10 days after I went in. Based on instructions from them, I had gone to their website, downloaded the form and helped complete it. It turns out, he didnt need that at all. No appointment made, but I created a profile online before I came for a Real ID, which I gathered from people here today, really helps the process if you create an account online with all of your info. Got here at 8:30 (again no appt). When I sat down after checking in there were exactly 50 people to be called in my category. (You’re put in groups A, B, F, G etc I’m assuming per what your applying for). The total process took me exactly 2 hours: check in, wait for 50 people, process paperwork, picture, and short test. Last time I moved to Los Angeles (10 years ago), I was a whole day affair and I had to come back the next day to finish.

Comment: I don’t have any complaints, this place is usually very fast, by comparison, and they are always trying to get the crowded line to go faster, so they come thru and try to separate ppl ahead of time.The parking is very crowded, but if u circle around, during the busiest times, u will find a spot. Also, normally I do find parking, but I do recommend showing up in the off times. While they have a good amount of parking spaces, we all know how busy DMV can get.I have been here several times and they were always efficient. I love their customer service, the people are nice and friendly. I loved the lady w pineapples 🍍- she had pineapple earrings and several pineapple decorations on her desk, and she was an absolute sweetheart, unfortunately was some time ago so I don’t recall her name, but I was very impressed by her!

Comment: Better than you might think. Saturday visits without appointment are manageable. LB Branch had no appointments available, so I reluctantly went in to experience the dreaded line and found that it was not so dreadful after all. For a Saturday you can shave some time by arriving by 7:30 or wait until 9:00 to show up when the line thins out. Either way the DMV staff were very helpful. They have a triage staffer who walks to each person in line and helps sort out if you have what you need. The whole process works. It is important to go online to fill in your pre application for whatever you are doing. Bring whatever papers you need and show up. This is actually working. Walked out accomplishing what I needed to do. YEAH!

Once they opened I stood in line for no more than 5 minutes and was immediately directed to window #9. Paid and took they eye test in a couple of more minutes. Headed off to the camera person and then took both my motorcycle and vehicle written tests. In and out in no time at all. And the people working there really cared. They were friendly and offering help to anyone who needed it. The folks working in the testing area were calming and even helped some of the elderly folks that needed a bit of one-on-one assistance. Comment: I had an appointment on Saturday, 12/8/19 at 8:40am. Arrived before 8 am; when I saw the long line forming, my thoughts were, going to be a long morning! Walked over to the appointment line and was directed to room 2. The clerks were very helpful with the registration process and given a number, then told to wait. I was prepared with license, birth certificate, proof of residency, except for my marriage certificate ( didn’t know that it was necessary for a “real ID) since I had a previous drivers license with my maiden name. Luckily my husband was able to bring the certificate to me and it all turned out for the best. The clerks were very helpful. The line to take a photo was very long, since there is only one camera, one clerk taking photos and handling car license plates. This line also crosses the line for room 2 and the restrooms. This is the only problem that I feel needs to be addressed.Overall, my DMV experience was very good!Thank you,F.Calderon

Comment: I was there with no appointment this morning 2018/11/16. Arrived at 6:30 am on a Friday and I was number 8 in line. Opened at 8 am and I was the first customer at one of the counters. Got the CA Real ID done and was out of the office after 30 minutes at 8:30 am. Very clean, very good and very efficient. Make sure to arrive at least 2 hours early before 8 am on a weekday if you have no appointment and you can get everything done within 1 hour with no waiting.

Comment: No matter what, you are going to have to wait at the DMV; even if you have an appointment, however, this location has a pretty solid system, and ran smoothly. Once I got inside and was directed to where I needed to go, it was not so bad. This site is also clean and orderly, and has some outdoor shade and places to sit adjacent to the line, and many people brought lawn chairs to sit in (which is better than Disneyland); the only problem is waiting, I waited 90 minutes to get in, but if you do your research online, make sure you bring the documents they suggest, and realize the DMV is never going to be easy, then its not so bad.

Comment: Pleasantly surprised! Staff was efficient, and most were nice enough. I had made an appointment and had to take a test, and was in and out in just an hour. For those expecting all smiles and speed at any DMV then you are crazy. The job seems overwhelming and tedious. Be patient and give them a break.

Comment: Computer system had been down for a week when I showed up. I made an appointment online. There was no notification to tell me not to come which is annoying, as I could have made an appointment with another location. The part that really bothered me is that I got there 10 minutes before they opened, the line was all the way down the side of the building as usual, as people were waiting for it to open to take care of their business. And it wasnt until 8 oclock, right when they opened, that they came out and told everyone that the computers were down and the only thing they could do were road tests, no other services were possible. Some people had been waiting for over an hour already. Staff was already on site, they could have let people know much earlier that they were not going to be helped. It was the complete lack of effort in any way to try to inform people that they would not be helped that earned them a 1.

Comment: 6/2016. I went in to change my name and I had a good experience. I was easily able to park and was in and out within 30 minutes. With that said, I did have an appointment, so Im sure that made a difference. The staff were nice and efficient though.

Comment: Ive never had to wait longer then 30min, but usually less, in the 10 years Ive been comming here, no matter how long the line was. Took my motorcycle driving test here, no problems. Only ran into 1 rude employee, but mainly everyone is nice.
