Freedom Center in other cities:
I am a female military veteran. Every time I fly, I go to the Freedom Center. The people there are great. Very friendly. Great place to relax and wait for your flight.I stopped by the USO in St Louis and the old man behind the counter was very rude and embarrassed me in front of a bunch of military personnel. The experience there was horrible.
Very nice lounge for military members and families passing through Detroit Airport. Light food was offered, comfortable seats were present, and the lounge was surprisingly quiet. We thought the lounge should be enlarged, because it was jam packed while we were there and many other vets and military members may have wanted a place to rest while travelling. All in all, superb... and we were very thankful for the respite!
I heard them announce over the loudspeaker about the freedom center. We were waiting around the airport for 5 hours so I took a walk over to look at it. I am a disabled veteran from the Viet Nam era, do I showed my VA card, signed in and the invited me and my wife in. It had some lazy boy chairs a large screen TV lots of drinks and snacks all of no charge. I got to talk to other vets and active duty guys. It was off the charts awesome for vets. When I got out of the service people spit at me in the airport. Theres a donation box on the way out drop something in if you can. Its a wonderful thing to do for vets.👍👍👍👍👍👍👎👎
Great place for Veterans, active duty, military families and foreign military. Its not a USO as there is no Active Duty base in Michigan so the USO doesnt support or do anything for this non-profit organization. Stopped by to check it out. Very nice place to get away from the drama of travel.
This place is a gem! Its so quiet and relaxing you forget youre even at an airport! There is a flight board electronic schedule in there, just like the rest of the airport. Relaxing recliners, free food and drink plus free snacks and toiletries really round out the experience!
This place allows former military to stay. USO is strictly for active military so this was a welcome change. They got comfortable leather chairs and a large table for anyone that may need to do some work. There is a large selection of complementary drinks and snacks. Highly recommend if anyone has some time to kill at DTW.
This is similar to the USO that you see at other airports. With the exception of the fact that it is all run by volunteers and everything is donated. In my opinion its freaking aweousome! You show proof of service and your in. They have all the comforts of home and its all free. Great place to stop when your traveling.
The Military and other companies got together and funded their version of the USO. Its also manned by volunteers. There is not a very strong military presence in Michigan as compared with other states, but I am elated that they chose to serve and honor our Nations veterans in this way. Great job Detroit!!!!
I was very impressed with this place. Didnt know it existed until I heard a general announcement in the terminal. There is a lounge area with TV, tables for work, lots of outlets to recharge, and all kinds of snacks from donuts to candy to Hot Pockets. A great addition to DTW, accessible with military or veterans ID
I try to arrive to the airport very early in case of any obstacles, but most times there are none and Im there 2 or 3 hours early with nothing to do. The Freedom Center was a place that I could chill out until my flight. Today, I almost missed my flight because I kicked back too much. (Smile) Thank you Freedom Center.
As a volunteer at the Freedom Center at the Detroit Metro airport, one in each terminal, this a lounge for anyone who has ever served in a NATO service. Unlike USOs all military is welcome, active, retired and all veterans and their dependents. There is hot and cool drinks and light snacks. It is a quite while waiting for your flight.

2022-02-12Great place to relax and get a snack and drinks while traveling through DTW. It is free for military members and their families. I am a military spouse and I was traveling alone and was allowed in. The volunteers were very friendly and helpful. They keep the place clean by wiping down seats when people leave, wiping down common areas, etc. There is a flight status board inside for the terminal, reclining couches, water, a Kuerig, and small snacks. Everything is free. They do not have a kitchen for meals. It is a very nice addition to the airport for military families.

2022-02-08Terrible experience I walked in greeted the two world war vets and asked for a few bottles of water. As one gentleman checked my ID the other asked was I working as I was escorting a customer thru the terminal. I replied I was and he said we can’t give you water if your working. Blows my mind I didn’t know I was only a vet when off duty. I will not return here. If I didn’t know better I felt singled out. If this is a actual rule then freedom center is not free at all.

2020-12-16One of the many veteran organizations I feel genuinely supports the military community. I love this place!! It deserves 5+ stars and an honorary salute. Thank you Michigan Freedom Center - Detroit Metro Airport :) for your continued efforts caring for us and our families during our travels.

2019-04-28Friendly, clean and great stop for Military travellers. The staff is caring and responsive. The space is small, but has 5 arm chairs, table to work, and an area dedicated to the little ones. Great snacks, hot coffee, tea, cocoa smell lots of cold beverages. Thank you!

2019-04-07I was shocked to find this place in the airport, their service was great with an atmosphere to match! I was very glad to have found a place like this while waiting for my flight as they had everything you could possibly want/need, snacks, coffee, wifi, drinks, TV, a comfortable place to sit and relax. I enjoyed my time there, and I want to thank this program for serving military members find comfort en route to their destinations. Thank you !

2018-11-25Its like a USO, but its not in name only. The volunteer working there that morning was friendly and accommodating. Free snacks are offered like granola bars and bags of chips and bottled water. Of course theres coffee. Its a bit small, but the recliner chairs are super comfy and they have a lot of outlets to charge your stuff. Definitely makes killing an hour at the airport much more enjoyable.
