Lower Huron Metropark in other cities:
Absolutely Beautiful Park. We found the perfect spot with 10 tables under shade. They have grills to Bar B Q..a bathroom was walking distance..they have garbage cans all around to keep it clean..trees and a river below a hill on the other side of us. The parking lot is close by so we could keep an eye on our truck. There was no one around us where we were at. We put a blanket on the grass and relaxed. Only problem was we forgot bug spray. A lot of little spiders in the grass. There was also a small swing set for my kids to swing on close enough for me to see them. Great park. We will definitely be going back.
Great park, well maintained. Biking and hiking trails. Kayaking spots, campground, park equipment, pavilions with picnic tables for parties. Turtle cove is currently closed. We hiked the Woods Creek Rustic Trail. 2.8mile loop trail. Bring off lol lots of mosquitoes. The trail was moderately difficult because of the terrain and elevation spikes at times. But it was such a peaceful hike. $10 for a car day pass to get into the park.
This is the worst organized part I have ever been in they charge way way too much for theyre swimming in Turtle Cove Plus they now have changed Walnut Grove campgrounds and gave the campsites that were being used in the past to RVs and even though they had no RVs coming in this weekend they still chose not to rent out the spots instead only offering a couple of spots that were not secluded and were right next to other campers theres no help whatsoever they ruined the entire weekend for me and my family I dont suggest ever going to this park for anyting
The park is nice and there are many things to do just visit the website is not crowded. There is no power or sewer system. The bathrooms are well maintained. Peacefull and quiet in relax atmosphere. Water park near by. For 25 a day is a good getaway from the city. Good alternative to camp Dearborn.
Annual pass is the way to go. We kayak Lower Huron, Willow and Oakwood all the time since they all connect near our home. Easy parking, easy launch if you have your own kayaks. Picnic areas galore. Bathrooms where you need them. Bike paths seemingly never end. Weve seen eagles on many trips, which is really cool.
I enjoyed camping here however, the park feels like its at the end of a DTW runway. So if you are camping expect lots of fly overs. They slowed down at about midnight but they still kept me up lol night. Also the photo doesnt show how low these aircraft are. I swear I could see people waving in the windows of one of the flights
I just love that this place is practically in my backyard. There is so much to do here. In the summer practically every gazebo is taken for a birthday or family reunion. But when I go I go on the many trails. They upkeep the place really well and Im here at least once a week in the summer. I highly recommend getting a year pass for this place. I believe its 35 for the year or 10 for a visit. Just get the year pass, you wont regret it.
I am from west Michigan and I am surprised such an awesome place like this exists. I think every county needs something like this. We went at 4pm knowing we wouldnt have much time and had to peel ourselves away. However I still felt as though we used the space to our advantage. This is an affordable mini water park... And its amazing. I wish I had one closer to our home.
This place you can literally do it outdoors all everything here!!! From jet skiing to picnics in the park, dog walking what ever. This place is very spacious! Like woe.there is mucho grande space available yo just let it roam an gave a blast. Plenty of time in the world if you got it, to get it popping on this wonderful park!!!
Nice, except for the mosquitoes. The park has many picnic tables, including grills, and several pavilions also called shelters. Theres playground equipment, and fishing, and walking paths, and hiking trails. A nice park, but bring the DEET. Oh, and tennis courts, baseball diamond, was that a basketball court? Finally, the aquatic center. No, finally the campground. No, no, finally the kayak spots.
Clean park, bathroom clean, Waterpark in.walking distance ,river for karacking, sailing, fishing... police were present crusing around through out the day...felt safe. Lots of families there celebrating..everyone stayed in their lanes. Only issue was they have no electrical plugs..dj had to send for a generator ..other than that I highly recommend this park if you are in Detroit
I like this part Ive been going there since I was a kid and Im in my 50s now The park has changed a whole lot I just wish they would keep the grass cut regularly in all areas and perhaps maybe have a walking trail that is not in combination with the bike trail, I enjoy going out there and taking my grandchildren and doing walking with them but we always have to move out of the way of the bicyclers which is okay just a thought I just think you would be really nice this is a great family place to visit with your family and friends. Could you some repairs on some of the bridges and maybe either add a couple of more sheds and picnic tables and maybe something that adults as well as children would find interesting but other than that I think its a wonderful place and would recommend it.
Whats to say. Its a good place to visit. If you enjoy being outdoors. Listing to the sounds of nature. Seeing the beautiful sites of mother nature this is place to go. When I was there it was early Spring weather was cool, not a lot of people. I went looking for photography.
Was written a ticket and tried waving the officer down only for him to acknowledge me and drive off. i drove up to him AGAIN as he parked in another entrance and drove off for the second time. and i finally flagged him down the THIRD TIME. and as soon as i tried to ask him a question about my state pass he told me that it was invalid, trying to justify how he didn’t see me when i waved at him distinctively. not only was i the only person to get a ticket in the park. he told me he was ticketing everyone who didn’t have a pass, when multiple people i drove past did not have a pass, nor a single ticket. i will never be coming here again because of this experience. telling me that there are people at the entrances when there haven’t been all year. people drive through here CONSTANTLY without a pass. i cannot even find a way to pay my measly $10 ticket. waste of my taxpayer money. great work for a mall cop!
Awesome place to chill and get away from the city life. Stroll down the many trails and paths, or just sit back and watch the river flow. Great stress reliever and get away, in your own back yard. Bring a few hot dogs and hamburgers to picnic with one of the many grills and picnic tables available while watching the grandkids enjoy the outdoors and putting down their cell phones and video games.
Lifeguards measuring kids is subjective. Your kids may be disappointed trying to get on slides.TL;DRHeres the thing: slides. Both accessed by same stairs. Bottom of stairs, lifeguard that measures small kids. Too short, kid cant go up.If a kid gets measured below, why are you measuring them again at the top???My kid got on these slides for 2½hrs, measured at bottom every time, np. Lifeguards rotated their stations and the new guy up top told him he couldnt slide. I take him up myself. Guard at bottom measures him and again top guard says he cant go.He measures him again and hes barely 48. He hasnt shrank. Thing is its all subjective. The redundant measuring makes no sense.
The BEST PARK EVER!!! I went camping for the first time in 20 years, their park is so accommodating, clean, serene and OMG the RESTROOMS are cleaned and stocked like clockwork!! Can you believe that??? They have a fabulous staff that is on duty at 7am sharp, those restrooms are cleaned and ready before most folks get up...The best camping experience I had!! Fishing was awesome too, did not catch anything, but it was FUN!!
I have been coming for walks at this beautiful place for a couple of years now. I purchase an annual pass. I was unexpectantly disappointed this evening. I was refused entry because my annual pass is in my wallet and not plastered to my windsheild. I was unaware of this policy. My pass from the prior year is still stuck on my windsheild as i was unable to get it off this time. I wanted to remove the old one b4 placing the new one. I am very disappointed that despite the fact that i have an annual pass, i was still refused entry. That was extremely disappointing. I think that I should find another park to support. I am so disappointed to have been refused entry for that reason. I wish that I knew who to report this to.
Its a field, they have no amenities, the camping site is atrocious. No water, no electric, no swimming, no play area (old , worn down and shut down) looks like they invest nothing in the property, sadest excuse for a park in the state. Theres a muddy trail and a wood bridge...
We went here for the first time this weekend and loved it. Theres a huge bike path that travels through two other parks. We easily biked 20+ miles and will definitely be back. Lots to do with friends and family here. If you have the annual pass you can get in all the parks in the area.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Turtle Cove water park. It has been years since I was at Lower Huron. It was great to see the community enjoying the water. Plenty of lifeguard towers throughout the park with actual lifeguards on post. The slides and lazy rivers were fun and everything for the most part is child/toddler friendly. Concession stand had usual park fare: hot dogs, burgers, chicken strips and fries and the combos were reasonably priced. They also provide life vests for small children and personal floaters/ vests are discouraged. My only area for improvement is the ladies room/shower area. Needs more frequent attention and water to spray the floors down. Everyone is not super considerate of sharing these spaces. Bring shower shoes.
Beautiful park! Well kept I saw no trash anywhere but the trash cans. Bathrooms in Turtle Cove are clean and do not smell. And what fun Turtle Cove is! Lots of water going everywhere! The place scape had more places where water was spewing forth from, than I could be bothered to count! Lol. Two huge water slides were very popular! One you just sat in and slid down the other you sit on one of their big inner tube style floats. And if you want to kick back and float around they have the Lazy River. They dont allow outside food and drink, but the concession stand was not outlandishly expensive. For a pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, fries, and a drink was $8.75. They also had lockers you can put the things you did not want by the pool in. For fifty cents it was absolutely worth it. There is the cost of getting in the park, $10 per car. And the additional cost for Turtle Cove, $12 per person on the weekend and $11 per person for the week day.
Loving the new paths they put in! It makes it feel more like one of the state parks where you can walk through the woods instead of staying on pavement the whole time. Looking forward to seeing what else they do and Ill definitely be utilizing the park more often now.
If you want to get away and see some nature this is your spot. Great trails. Flowing creaks. Almost no noise. Great fishing if you know the spots. Plenty of camping room. Facilities are for the most part clean. The water park is amazing. And for 35 a year you can go as much and as often as you like. And it includes all the metro parks! For real how can you go wrong.
Ive been going to this park for years is a very nice place to have a cookout with family and friends. You have to get there early if you are trying to get a nice spot for a group. The only downside is every year the price goes. It used to be $3 a couple years ago now its at 10
This metropark is well laid out with lots of attractions. I like the wild areas the best though they are cut through with lots of lawns that seem to never see use. The trails themselves are acceptable but they are not well maintained nor do they offer anything in the way of signage. I was there recently and along the walkway near the Huron River the brush and understory plants had been cleared just chopped away. It was very unattractive. They could use more shaded areas.During events any shaded area is quickly filled up leaving most of the children (for whom the events are held) and seniors out in the sun. There is a pool and pond attraction I have yet to visit. I am looking forward to checking that out.
Its a beautiful Park. Play structures for kids, very good biking and hiking trail or walking trail, couple good nature trails and a campground plus you have turtle cove waterpark guess you would say. All in all is a very beautiful Park. Only bad thing is for some reason they are not cutting all the grass now. It looks unkeep. This is the worst Ive ever seen this park look, and Ive lived around here ever since 1959.
Weve camped here 4 or 5 times this summer and really enjoyed it.Pros:-actual bathroom with running water that is usually pretty clean and always has toilet paper-close to home but still has a lot of trails and hidden places to explore and things to doCons:- fire rings are low inside so it can be hard to feel heat of the fire unless you make a big one- fire wood sold on site is hit or miss, usually a miss. Wet and sometimes even moldy so its hard to light/burn
This review specifically pertains to the Walnut Grove campground within Lower Huron Metropark. My paddling partner and I spent our last evening on a 5-day canoe trip down the Huron River here. While the river/canoe access is okay, it was a bit of a hike to get to our tent site. While the park staff assured me over the phone that there were plenty of trees for a campimg hammock, it turns out this is not the case. Finally found a heavily-littered spot on the edge of a bluff that is covered in poison ivy. During our stay, we witnessed a domestic dispute between a couple and waited for local police to help with an abandoned dog (tied to that dispute) late at night. Tent sites are crammed together, and while Ive stayed at many rustic campgrounds, this one did not seem safe or private to me. On the plus side, the bathrooms were very clean, and the member of the park staff we met on site was very helpful!
This seems like a great place to go camping. Ive yet to explore all the trails but it seems well kept. There was some confusion on my end though; in the part of Ohio where Im from, the Metroparks are a network of free parks with various free or donation-based events throughout the year, but in Michigan, they are more like state parks in that you pay a fee to get in.
Fourth of July 2021The crowd was Heavy at the park the pool was over crowded .And they stop selling tickets. And my whole thing was people had been there since 10 am in the pool by 4 they should change wristband and let everyone enjoy the pool a lot people pay their money not to just enjoy park but the pool as well!!..Very unprofessional staff.
Lower Huron Park has great facilities including fishing sites, bike trails, a splash park and a swimming pool. I especially enjoy the park in the spring when the red bud are blooming, and in the fall when the leaves have changed. There are also camping facilities, ice skating on a pond in winter if it gets cold enough, and nature trails along the river. There is a charge to enter the park if you do not buy the yearly pass.
Im in a wheelchair and I love going to the Metroparks. Everything for the most part of accessible and there is a lot of room to move around. The office staff and Park staff is very friendly and I will continue going back as often as possible. I hope this was helpful and feel free to ask any questions. Have a great weekend and stay cool
My father pays taxes for this park. But, he still has to purchase a pass on top of that! Now, today - AGAIN - we were denied entrance to drive thru this park. How many people are getting in for free and yet, the ones who pay can NOT even drive thru it.THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!
This is my escape! Love to go running here getting lost in my thoughts. Peaceful, clean with lots of wildlife. I do however hate getting caught at the train crossing to the other side because you never know when its going to be there, but You cant really blame that on the park. Just be aware that it is a possibility if you find yourself short on time stick to the main side of the park!
My family and I recently visited art again this year and I really believe with all the money they charge to get in and for the water slide something should be done about the weeds and bugs even I have our shrubs in surroundings at our property sprayed for mosquitoes no one wants West Nile 🤔
Outstanding park. Beautiful and clean; great paved 5 mile trail that connects to Willow metropark. Summer water park, camping sites, wooded trail (no dogs on this part though ☹️), fishing access, kayak launch, ice skating rink, and tons of wildlife. I couldnt ask for a better park; Im more than happy to pay $35/year for my metropark pass!!! 🌱🌼🏕️
When I first got here I thought this was like a lot of other water parks/metro park where kids would have a little bit of fun and then get bored. But my family’s kids didn’t want to even come back haha. We enjoyed a good barbecue I even took a swim my self. The only bad thing is that a lot of people are judgy and always look at u with those eyes but other than that it was really cool and nice for families I have a family of 7 including my friend so this is a really good place for families that want to come and fun together note that this review was when I went before corona
This is one of our favorite in Detroit Metro area. It is a huge park, a lot of activities, a lot of places for kids to play, water park in the summer, and it stays open late (until 10 pm). So many activities can be done from basketball to riding bicycle, to the water park activities. The only downside is the network service will be weak inside the park in some areas, and you always should be ready for mosquitoes which is normal in any park. Facilities are good and everywhere. A lot of shaded areas and picnic tables with large grills scattered all over the place.
One of a chain of public parks along the Huron and Clinton rivers, includes miles of paved paths, rustic trails, picnic shelters and fishing decks over the river.Turtle Cove Water Park is located in the center of the park, along with playgrounds, tennis, and basketball courts.A paved longitudinal path runs the length of the park and continues southeast about 25 miles through several other parks and continues to the mouth of the Detroit River at Lake Erie.Lower Huron Metro Park is open all year and is popular for running, bicycling, walking, and in-line skating. Theres a skating area in winter and occasional volunteer work days and educational programs with park staff.
When hear about a week ago all in all it was a very nice part extremely clean the only issue is when we went to Turtle Cove the young ladies behind the counter act like they didnt want to service us I dont know if it was because of our skin color or they were having a bad day they were very rude and very nasty we paid our money to get into cuddle Cove and then was told that we couldnt get in the pool do to someone urinating in the pool but youre still taking money and its only an hour and 30 minutes left until you close why not just turn people away that was unfair to

2022-04-06Clean, lots of space to explore in many different ways for all ages and abilities. We appreciate the rubber engineered flooring making falls less painful. Go early in the morning when its less crowded. Bathrooms are across a large parking lot, very clean. Plentiful parking.

2022-03-20Wow, such a great playground. So many things to do for kids of all ages. They have an area for smaller kids and one for brighter kids. They also have adaptive (handicap) swings! Basketball courts and tennis/pickle ball courts as well. Great paths and cement for roller blading, biking and walking. They have picnic tables and a few charcoal grills close to the park for family cookouts.

2021-12-13We came for the space playground and stayed 2 hours. It is huge and well done. A good part of the playground is wheelchair accessible including the merry go round. My kids age 4- 11 had different things to entertain them. The slide is huge and the bigger kids loved it.

2022-02-06Lower Huron is a great park for taking the family and pets. Lots of wide paved trails along the road and the river. There’s also a few trails that are more in the woods. But hiking the old group camp road is my personal favorite.

2022-05-11A very inviting and diverse park for activities. When the group camp ground was flooded last weekend the rangers quickly moved us to the a separate area of the family campgrounds.

2022-07-01The new playground is awesome! Its a bit pricey to get in the park considering the pool is always full to capacity. Which I have left twice to go to bigger park for that reason this year already. Its a good place to have family events though.
