Another great local place I visited today. Good coffee, good treats. Meant to snap a few pics of the cookies but I was hungry and forgot, will stop by to rectify this mistake next time Im in the area. In the big picture Ill say there is nothing wrong with Starbucks, but if I want a cup of coffee Id rather swing by a place like this. Local, much better decor/vibe/ atmosphere. Nice and mellow, not the hustle and bustle of a crazy overloaded coffee chain, is rather read my book here. My coffee choices are pretty basic, black or Americano. They nailed both. Stop by next time youre at the barbershop downstairs.
The place is a little difficult to find. It is upstairs from the barber shop and to the right. Its a small coffee bar with limited seating. But cute and classy decor and reasonably priced yummy coffee. They did have non dairy milk options also and the nitro cold brew.
Amazing coffee… especially the vanilla bourbon! However, it is frustrating to patronize a business that is not open during their listed business hours. Maps say one thing, Google says something else and as I sit in front of the building at 8:58 am… I’m simply confused. Please update the hours on all platforms so provide to guests accurate information. Thanks!
This is a great spot to get some craft coffee and enjoy a well curated space with tons of natural light, fun music, and interesting decor. I recommend the vanilla bourbon latte. Take some whole bean home with you, too. Anecdotally, it makes a great home brew with prominent chocolate notes.
Awesome Latte!! We halted here for a couple of hours while one of us went to the border for immigration work. The lady was so sweet and welcoming. I literally saw so many people stopping by to talk with her on their way to work. As if she is making the start of the day positive and cheerful. The ambient was nice and had free Wi-Fi too.We are definitely stopping here anytime we are passing by.And of course, Latte is awesome!!
We were visiting Detroit for the first time, went to LUCKY Coffee shop on Friday 9/3/21 late afternoon. Anywhere we travel, we find local coffee shops, and if we like the coffee/ambiance/baristas, we will buy a pound of coffee and apparel if available. the building is cool, decor cool. Front desk personel were friendly. the LUCKY BARISTA was stand off-ish, scowled several times at me, gave me the passive aggressive stare down. I attempted to engage with him several times asking him about the coffee menu, what roaster they use, any recommendations. I got minimal feedback from him, he even rolled his eyes when I did not know what neighborhood his roaster was in. I told him I was from out of state and did not know what street he was referring to. The coffee shop was dusty, unorganized, items spilling out from the open storage shelves. we wont be back.
I normally remove a star when the bathroom is lacking changing table. However, I dont think I would come here with my kids. The café is upstairs not wheel chair friendly.Place is super clean neatly taken care of. The ambiance is super nice - like super hipster. Really like the decorum.Service is very friendly and nice. Not too loud and comfortable. I would easily spend time there regularly. The pricing is high for a coffee $4to5...But the coffee is actually very good.I would definitely come back and hang around regularly.
Ordered coffee on the website (luckydetroit.com). They took my payment and sent nothing. Couldnt reach anyone to figure out what was going on, even after calling Detroit Barbers (which is the PayPal name and is located at the same address as Lucky Detroit).PayPal refunded the payment after no response from the seller, no idea what the malfunction is but dont order from their site--seems nobody is fulfilling those orders!
A coffee shop, in a barber shop, in a queer neighborhood. No more inception. An unexpected location and a beautiful entrance to a simple and unique coffee shop. Coffee was good but I think their latte had too much milk. Place would be a wonderful place to hang out in summer as their unique touches were too cold to experience in winter. Ordered a muffin and it was crispy and beyond expectations. Not much to eat, however a unique mixture of coffee and barbershop.
Been to the barbershop here and gave a 1 star. Not sure why I thought the coffee shop would be better. Coffee was super watered down. Way overpriced for sub par drip coffee. Service was rude. Don’t waste your time or money here.Editing my review after the business response:I think the response to my review and every other negative review - consistent theme of rude staff - speaks to the attitude you get from from the business.
Probably the best pour over coffee Ive had in Detroit. Ive visited most of the local coffee shops in the greater Detroit area.I visited Lucky Detroit Coffee and Espresso on a Tuesday and ordered a coffee from Ethiopia. Naturally processed coffees are typically very fruity in flavor and aroma and this coffee lived up to the expectations. The fruity aromas and flavors were undeniable! There was a great balance in the cup. The acidity level was pleasant, not too strong. It was naturally sweet and had an enjoyable aftertaste. I loved the coffee so much I was so sad I couldnt go back for another cup before I left the area. If I didnt have enough coffee at home I would have bought a bag of the coffee to brew it at home. The coffee shop is beautiful very old school, relaxing and everyone is very nice.
Pretty chill environment but the coffee isnt really good and has a burnt taste. Feels like all these other new Detroit business with random old stuff laying around as decor and industrial-ish fixtures... So i dont feel like Id be missing anything by never going here again.
Lucky Detroit is a great place to stop by to grab a coffee in Corktown. There is street parking that’s free on the side street and metered parking on Michigan Avenue. They have great house coffee and great Chai tea ☕️ and other specialty drinks. They are adjacent to a barbershop 💈 and the whole experience is pretty cool. The coffee shop is on the second floor and they have a few places to read and study 📖 or have a meeting.
Coffee creamer was expired chunky and sour!! When we poured it we told the “barista” and he said that organic milk gets chunky, even though it smelled sour. It said on the bottle it expires tomorrow ( everyone knows that date on the carton is an estimate). He then got a new bottle out which also said it expired tomorrow 10/30 (same date) and that was still chunky! He then heated it up until it melted the chunks and just poured it in our coffee. The creamer curdled! I have bought organic milk my whole life and it never got chunky unless it was expired!! It smelled so sour me and my sister had to through it away. Waste.

2022-08-17Stopped by Lucky Detroit one morning during our recent trip to the city for a RHCP concert. What a unique and lovely coffee shop! The coffee and scones were top quality and the outdoor seating area was an absolute vibe.

2022-06-28Fortunately. I was riding my bike in Corktown one morning and was desperate for a good cup of coffee. Luckily I was right near Lucky Detroit and I could not have wished for a better spot. Great coffee, chill vibe and a quiet space. I think my favorite thing was the location above a busy barber shop.

2021-08-08I wish we lived closer. The building and decor produces a space you want to spend time! The Bourbon Vanilla Latte and Coldbrew were really delicious. Great little courtyard out front to enjoy your drinks in the sunshine.

2021-05-23Absolutely one of the best lattes in town. The ambience is fantastic - very much looking forward to reading a book with a coffee here once the pandemic subsides. There are a few comfortable seats and a long table that looks great for laptop work. The cafe is up some stairs in a courtyard behind the building, adding to the ambience. Antique items from Detroit (and a moose head) nicely tie the room together. For now, it was worth the drive just to pick up a couple of lattes and some ground coffee.

2019-01-21Love this space. Upper floor in a barbor shop. Well made coffee. With pour overs available. Not quite the freshest roast... But latte, and more importantly, the maple latte is beautiful and delicious. Good setting for reading and change of scenery from normal coffee shops. I recommend a visit.

2022-07-15Excellent. The service was prompt and friendly. My only regret was that I didnt have more time to sample many of their other delicacies. But alas, work beckoned. Perhaps next time, Ill bring a laptop and work there.
