The food was great but the line was busy to call so it is lucky we just drove over to order.
If I could do less then 1 star I would the person on the phone is extremely rude. NOT THE FIRST TIME . Even when I go in to pick up the food she is rude . She won’t give her name or lies about her name. Won’t go back ... and the food was cold.
The food is great, but the workers are rude, extremely unprofessional and poorly trained. We were seated away from everyone else and watched everyone be sat on the other side of the restaurant. I now know how zoo animals must feel. The soy sauce bottle was clogged, which was pretty gross and we never got a water refill. If you really want to try here, I recommend ordering out so you can avoid being treated like garbage by the employees.
Inexperienced staff, bland menu, not a fantastic experience.The waiter didnt know what ingredients were in the dish I ordered. No customization allowed at all. The fried rice was bland with minimal additions over white rice. The dinner portion of the meal was very small and even though my wife and I had very different dishes the sauces were very close in flavor.They had really delicious egg rolls but they didnt offer sweet and sour sauce with them, only plum sauce and it cost extra. I dont think Ill eat at this establishment again.
I feel like they have really raised the bar lately and the food is better than ever. The beef dishes, which I didnt used to order a lot, are now of particular interest to me. Keep it up!
I moved away from alpena 19 years ago and have not found a restaurant as good as mandarin the best food every
Best Chinese restaurant in town. Been eating here for years. Veggies are always fresh. Crab rangoons are crispy and not soggy like other Chinese restaurants in town. Peter always comes out to say hello.
Beef Pepper Steak. Big filling serving. Only thing I get, cause I cant imagine a better tasting dish, and they make it as good as I remember from Detroit area restaurants. Staff is great, tables are clean, atmosphere is classy. If youre getting Far East food cravings in N.E. MI, go here.
The waiters were prompt and engaging, the crowd was light, and even though we were near two other tables, it felt like we were alone in there. The food was phenomenal, too. Great atmosphere!
We come here once a year when we are in town. This experience was my least favorite. I rated it a 3 because the food tasted good, although our food arrived to the table cold. When I asked them to warm it back up, they put it in the microwave right in front of me! If I wanted microwaved food I would go to the freezer section of Wal-mart! When I asked her to take it out of the microwave she rolled her eyes and acted like I was impossible. Also, our sake was served cold and had to sit in a pot of water for 5 min to heat up. Both carafes. ??? What is going on MG? Disappointed this time around (and no offer to take anything off the check or any consolation at all). I hope its better next year.
We used to go here when I was younger. I brought my family to Alpena for the first time and really wanted to go back. I was so disappointed. I couldnt even eat my meal. The rice was so dry...seemed like it was old. The chicken didnt taste right and the crab rangoons were salty, oily and not cooked all the way through.
The service was great. I didnt care for the Mongolian beef but my sons Chicken & Vegetables was good. The crab meat wontoons were also good. Worth the stop.
Ordered a $14 meal, which was clearly microwaved, as it took as long to cook as a plate of noodles. The cook was insulted that we wouldnt eat his rubber chicken. He was shouting at the waitress about the bitching customers (we were unbelievably understanding and courteous, mind you). He sent her back with instructions on what to order next time, for some reason. The tea was amazing. Too bad we will never enjoy it again.
Weve been going here for years. The portions have gotten much, much smaller but theyve also recently updated the restaurant which is a refreshing change. I like the house chicken!
Great experience overall good food
Ordered carry-out. Was told soup came with meal, no soup was included. I asked for fried rice and what I got was basically steamed white rice with some mixed veggies and scrambled egg thrown in. The almond chicken was greasy. Doubt will go there again.
Hostess not super warming. Never get the same person twice because they cant keep good help. Food depends on the day it seems. But remodel is nice.
Mandarin Garden is the best Chinese restaurant in Alpena. I usually get Mongolian Beef which has a deep rich depth of flavor from the garlic and ginger sauce that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Any of the garlic dishes are great. Actually, I have never been disappointed from any of the dishes they serve.

Was so looking forward to finding a good Chinese restaurant here in Alpena. It was the worse Chinese food I have ever had. There was no sauce it was dry and tasted like the chicken was bad. Will never go there again.
Absolutely the worst customer service in the area. Over priced An Ive herd a lot of bad things about the kitchen. An people getting sick. Its supposed to be a nice classy family restaurant but as far as the people working there it might as well be called McDonalds

Never had a problem, food is fair, remember its northern michigan not NYC. Service is quick and the staff is knowledgeable and courteous. Nice building and atmosphere.
Wouldnt give me sweet and sour as a side for egg roll. Also wouldnt honor lunch special 2 minutes before 3:00.
Been going here since I was a kid and has been fantastic every time my family eats here, great food, great service.

Cant beat Peters Russian soup !!!! Super crab rangoons. Lunch menu has large choice but you must try the House CHICKEN

A definite go to nearly every time we are in Alpena. Mandarin Chicken is a bit heavy with the breading but the sauce is spot-on. Mongolian Beef is also a winner.

2020-10-11Good food, good portions, always nice and hot! And their lunch specials are awesome! The place we remodeled recently so I wanted to update my review. They still have some amazing lunch specials, and they do great with their take out food! The servings here are very large! You wont leave hungry!

2019-10-11Weve been coming here for years and the food has always been amazing. The service has always been good and friendly. The food is consistent and fresh. This Mongolian beef has set a standard for me and I dont even like to order it other places because Im afraid to be disappointed. The sesame and generals chicken are both delicious and the best Ive ever had. The house chicken is also! I love the chicken vegetable soup. The crab rangoons are filled perfectly with their own crab and cream cheese filling. Try the duck sauce too!

2020-05-18Not too bad. Portions are large. Staff very nice. Flavor great. However, we ordered the Beef in Garlic Sauce extra spicy; but it was hardly spicy at all. Also ordered a Chicken Vegetable Supreme and received a Cashew Chicken; not even close to the same thing. Granted we did come just before closing during the take out only days but neither of these 2 meals were unavailable when I called. Other than those hiccups it is definitely a 4 ⭐️.

2022-01-17Have had Mandarin many times. The food is good quality and always has good flavor. The only reason I am going with 4 instead of 5 stars is that they no longer have nor anticipate having dining in. I personally enjoyed going here for sitdown meals though I still get their food occasionally. However, I feel it is not nearly as good once it cools on the drive home.

2021-05-09I love the food there however the services seems to always struggle. A lot of the time when u call they don’t answer. And you can call for 20 minutes sometimes before you get someone. They seem to only have one person for up front to answer phones take orders package food ect.... you get very poor service because I feel the staff is stretched too thin upfront! Sometimes when you go in no one is there to wait on you or greet you. You can stand there for 10min at times. Please fix this! We want to continue to support your business.

2021-03-27Food was disgusting. The soup tasted like water and they gave us mala beef instead of mandarin beef. Not only was the order not the right one it was 75% white onion and when we called to try to correct the issue we were told that we cant complain because they haven’t gotten a complaint in six months. Last time i check i paid money for the swill they served me so I definitely wont be giving them my business again in the future.

2019-09-30WOW ! The remodel is beautiful. Fresh, bright, and super clean. Food is amazing!!!! Clean is a big deal to me when I eat out. Chef Chen and all the staff make this place a wonderful venture. I could see making this a weekly visit if I lived closer.
