Walked through the store the other day for the first time. I could see some really cool shoes from the window and could tell they were high quality -- and also maybe out of my price range at the very moment. Still, I wanted to check out the selection for when I am in the market for a nice, comfy and stylish pair of shoes. Mast Shoes definitely fit the bill for this.The only thing that was odd to me was, there were several store associates working and not a one of them (in the 15 min or so I spent in the store) so much as acknowledged me. I cant be too sure whether this was just because they were busy (helping many other customers), or perhaps my looking at the prices on everything indicated to them that I was too broke to spend anything there anyway. (Do I *look* that broke? Hmm.) So, that was kind of a turn-off. This is unusual for me, but I felt a bit like a second-class citizen!Nonetheless, I would probably come back to shop here as they had some really unique and clearly well-crafted shoes. Pretty much everything in the store ranges between $100 and $200 a pair, which is certainly worth the investment (if you can do it) for some shoes that should be very good for your feet.
William and the rest of the staff were so friendly. William was patient and understanding of my needs.
Just sent a note to the two members of the Mast team who were so kind, considerate and accommodating during my recent visit. Rarely do I write reviews but, the attention afforded me and my overall experience was so gratifying that I felt compelled to publicly acknowledge that Mast Shoes not only has high quality footwear but, very high quality individuals serving you, as well.
My daughter had made it clear that she wanted to visit Mast Shoes when she came home to northern lower Michigan for a visit from France. Neither of us get a chance to go to Ann Arbor often. We found great shoes and great service there as usual. The online shop had also helped us get some idea of what we might be looking for when we got there. Highly recommended.
I loved this store until I developed a medical problem. Shoes became difficult to buy and often within a few hours I was in significant pain. This was a new problem and a learning curve was involved. Unfortunately, within the first year, I ended up returning five or six pairs of shoes, worn only for a few hours and only around the house because they causing pain. I did not take this lightly as I know they do not sell for full price once returned. On about the fourth pair I had to return, the manager waited until I was looking at him, looked me straight in the face, closed his eyes, and shook his head no from side to side several times. No other way to take it than as a condemnation for returning yet another pair of shoes. After that I initially would only shop there when he was not working. Ultimately I started shopping elsewhere. I am typically very loyal and will pay more for good and helpful service and patience. I bought MANY pairs of shoes that did work - repeatedly. But he embarrassed and shamed me as I was dealing with a frightening and painful medical situation. I do not have money to waste on shoes I only wear for two hours. Ultimately, no way I could continue shopping there and maintain my self respect.I appreciate the response from the store and there are MANY wonderful, patient and caring people who work there. This was very much a one-off experience and a couple of extraordinary people who work there com to mind. But you cannot treat someone that way while they are dealing with a difficult situation and expect them to keep coming back. It was more than enough to drive me away. The Manager was not involved in the return (someone else was helping me). If someone felt compassion, especially for a long time customer having a hard time, they would walk the roughly 10 feet from where he was standing and say something positive or compassionate - not close his eyes and shake his head from side to side from 10 feet away. I and my family bought shoes here and the old downtown store almost exclusively for YEARS before and for about a year and a half after my issues arose. Just a shame. The store was an old reliable until this happened.
This is the only place where I feel confident buying shoes. They fit me each time and make recommendations that are comfort and health minded first. I love my shoes and I love the experience.
An indispensable store for people with hard-to-fit feet. The store specializes in comfort shoes and styles that help specific problems like pronation, flat feet, etc. Sales personnel is knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend the store that has been a lifesaver for shoes on more than one occasion.

I have been in serious lockdown for a year. Yesterday was my first day out after full vaccination protocol. First, I got a haircut. Second, I went to Mast Shoes. This store is great and also essential to me and my tender feet.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Got home and realized the shoes felt tighter on one foot than the other. Came back in the following week and they were able to resize and advise me on how best to tie them. They are also doing a great job with safety precautions.
LOVED my experience today!! They practiced extremely safety procedures. When it was my turn to be helped, my guide listened to me and was genuinely trying to help me find a good pair of shoes for standing while working from home.I got a pair of Professional Dansko Clogs. I couldn’t be happier.I’m definitely coming back to update my booties next spring.
We really like Mast for their customer service as well as the quality of shoes. Even during a pandemic getting shoes here was a great experience. Their email communication was very prompt, ordering on line and choosing my pickup/delivery option was easy, and shipping was fast. I placed the order on a Tuesday evening and my shoes arrived on Friday of the same week. We will for sure continue to shop for shoes at Mast in the future!
I was blown away with the service I received. I recently received my custom orthopedic insoles from my doctor, and was having issues finding shoes that would fit them, and still be comfortable, so my doctor recommended I try here. As soon as I walked in, I was taken to a chair to sit down and had my foot measured. The staff them went to get a few options to start, and would place the insoles in the shoe for you and help you into the shoe. I tried so many shoes before settling on my first pair, and everyone helping me was so nice. This place is very no-pressure when it comes to buying shoes, which helped a lot. The person helping me also explained the benefits of each shoe (stabilization and such) which helped also in finding a shoe that best fit my foot health needs.If youre having trouble finding quality shoes, come to Mast Shoes, seriously. I have odd feet for a women, and most womens shoes at a traditional shoe store feel too tight for me, and I was brought multiple pairs of shoes to try that fit my feet comfortably.I will be coming back for my future pair of shoes when the season changes.
Greg went above and beyond for me today at Mast!! I live Downriver and dont get out to west Ann Arbor often. I had a return, but also had my dog with me and I didnt want to leave him in a hot car. Greg met me in front of the store and processed the return inside while Strider and I waited. Val is also fantastic when you need help finding just the right shoe. This kind of personal care, and the excellent quality of the shoes they carry, is whats kept me coming back for close to thirty years. Love Mast Shoes!
I am pleasantly surprised to discover high professionalism and knowledge when shopping. It is a delight to not purchase something online. I was greeted at the door. Kate, the associate helped me. She sized me up, returned several options, and in less than twenty minutes, I left as the owner of some of the most comfortable shoes Ive worn in years. I would strongly recommend a visit to this location. Not only for the great care I received, but as witness to the entire team repeating the same practice. Two women brought in an elderly person confined to a wheelchair. Staff were quick to assist a smooth and pleasant experience for her needs. So many experts were on staff that the dozen or so other patrons were each served well without interruption. A large inventory of great styles and quality brands are available. This is an Ann Arbor treasure.
Loved the service. The attendant helped me find a pair of shoes that I will be able to use throughout my pregnancy and after. I was shocked by the prices at first, but can tell you the instant back pain relief i felt when putting on the right shoes.

I had a wonderful experience at Mast Shoes! It was my first time going to Mast and I may never shop anywhere else for shoes. Costumer service was outstanding and their COVID protocols were impressive. I felt so comfortable and taken care of.
This is such a great shoe store. It is rare these days to get this much personal attention for sales staff. But the Mast salesperson measured my husbands feet and found a pair for him that are really comfortable. I get all my shoes there, but for him to be happy with a shoe store is really something!

Mast Shoes never disappoints! Went in the other day to get shoes for my picky, hard to fit teenager. The associate who helped us did a great job helping me guide my teen to shoes that we knew he would like even if he didnt know it at first - you get me on this one parents! We ended up leaving with 3 pairs of shoes that fit all of his needs for school, winter and his jazz performances. Thank you for doing what you do Mast Shoes!

My wife and I went to Mast Shoes in Ann Arbor yesterday, 5-18-16 to purchase some new shoes for the both of us. We walked in and were immediately welcomed by Molly. My wife and I were throughly impressed--not only with Molly--but Mast Shoes store with their wide array of solid first rate shoes at a reasonable price.Molly spent time talking with us and explaining in detail about the purchase that we were about to make. She was very down-to-earth and we felt quite comfortable with her. I felt that she was very sincere in speaking with us and showed great interest in what we had to say.Mast Shoes is not just a shoe store. It is an experience. In this store you have people that genuinely care about the people they serve. It is not just a place where they want to make a sale and then send you on your way. Molly and the other employees spend time with you, encourage you to ask questions and have them answered truthfully. I highly recommend this store if you are looking for high quality shoes at an affordable price with employees who really care about the people they serve. You are not just a customer at Mast Shoes. Ive been to many shoe stores in my life and Mast Shoes in Ann Arbor is absolutely the BEST!! Molly even offered to send one of my old shoes that needed a minor repair out to get fixed with no charge and will even mail the shoe to my home when the work is done. We couldnt be happier.

Very, very nice selection of shoes for hard to fit feet. It was recommended I try Mast Shoes to find something to fit my very high instep, wide awake heeled feet. While there was little that fit (I did walk out with a pair of Keens, which always fit my feet) I was highly impressed with their selection and service.And no, I am still not going to try SAS because Im not nearly old enough yet 😁

For the past couple decades, Ive been getting most of my shoes from Mast. Theyre great! The shoes can be a bit pricey, but are super comfortable, long-lasting, and worth the investment. The staff members really know what theyre talking about, and are good at trouble-shooting weird fit problems with inserts, etc. William is an especially helpful salesperson (hes the one I know the best, but everyone else Ive interacted with seems very nice and knowledgeable, too!).
Wonderful shoe store! The system of assistance there is top notch and the folks who work there are just so nice and helpful. Their inventory never fails me. I always walk out of the store with great fitting shoes.
My brother Stephen I got shoes here today. Mostly because we always get shoes here, but also because they measure your feet and get the right size shoe. I really like the shoes at Mast Shoes, but more importantly the staff, how they help you, how the shoes fit so well, and the available variety. Most of all and above all else the quality. They had the long laces my brother wanted. They were also able to put an extra insert into his left shoe. Finally, they had the power steps that I wanted for my shoes. I just love this place! We have spent quite a bit of time with associates in many shoe stores around the world. We do that because my wife wears an orthosis and finding her the right shoe is not easy. I recently bought 3 pairs of shoes at mast and was very pleased with the service I received and the quality of shoes that were for sale. I highly recommend Mast shoes. It should be noted however that these shoes are not cheap theyre extremely well-made and you pay for that... totally worth it
We went to Mast Shoes for the very first time today to buy shoes for my wife which werent available in a lot of other places but we initially decided to go to Masts since theyre a local Ann Arbor business and we try to support local businesses as much as possible. One of the first things I noticed after entering was that each customer was being helped individually by a staff member with incredibly personal service. Masts staff were helping other customers with measuring customers feet for shoe sizes, helping to try on the shoes, and incredibly friendly. After browsing around a bit, during which time we were asked multiple times by different staff members if we needed help (but not in a pushy sales way), my wife found the type of shoes she was looking for and the staff member was super nice, very helpful, and very patient as my wife needed to try on a few different pairs. I honestly cannot remember having this great of a customer experience in years, especially when shopping for shoes. I expected the whats now become the norm, a sales rep goes to get the shoes and gives them to you, and youre on your own. Well, thats not the case at Masts. Theyve brought truly personalized service to each and every customer that comes in - which is just such a pleasant surprise. We wont be buying shoes anywhere else going forward!

I went to Mast Shoes recently with my mother and we received excellent service from Dawn who was very proficient, helpful, friendly. and knowledgeable. Everything about this shoe store is exactly as it should be. Their method of accurately measuring hard-to-fit feet is ideal (and unlike any other store) and the selection and service cannot be topped. We drove a little over an hour to try this store out and it was well worth it. We have stores that we have been to in our area (Rochester, Waterford) that are similar in concept but nothing compares to Mast shoes. We are very grateful we found this store and look forward to returning soon. Thank you Mast Shoes!
Today’s experience was excellent. I was tired but I needed new shoes to be on my feet all day for work. Matthew patiently brought out a crazy number of shoes to make sure that I could find the right pair and he was super concerned with having had trouble with planters fasciitis. I will be back soon and would recommend this place to anyone.

Called to find out whether they carried a specific style and brand of sock. (Id been all over the internet looking for it) Instead of saying, yeah, we probably have something like that, like the other store I called, they said, Oh, yes, you mean the .... and they named the exact thing I was looking for. So I stopped, they were packed....Ive never seen such a packed shoes (except that one time during the annual department store sale in Paris!). Lots of staff, helping lots of people, and I bought my socks there. After they answered more questions about these socks. PLUS!!! They have a great sale / clearance area. AND!!! They have so many styles and brands of the shoes that I often purchase. WAIT THERES MORE! The prices are the same as youd pay at Amazon or Zappos AND you get incredible customer service. They are truly a full service shoe store. If you tell them your shoe size--they still measure both feet. They double check how your selection fits . If your shoes were a special order, they check for fit before you leave the store. They carry a full line of shoes, boots, sneakers, slippers, tennis shoes.

I had such a fabulous experience at mast shoes! aaron is the sales associate who helped me; he was extremely professional, informative, and helpful.i was a little worried about finding a fashionable-yet-comfortable shoe for work that met all the requirements, (non-slip, black) and came in my size (12 in women’s) but it was no issue. aaron brought several pairs for me to try, all of which fit various ways and were pretty comfortable, but the final pairs he brought were about as perfect as a shoe can get! aaron really did all he could to ensure he found a shoe which catered to my specific needs.he measured my feet before i tried any shoes on, too. this place really went the extra step to make sure their customers were receiving the best service possible. impeccable service, a profusion of options, styles, and staff who is always happy to help!i will absolutely be returning here in the future, and recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

2022-07-15I just had to leave a review for this place because they are excellent. I can’t remember the last time I received this type of service in a retail establishment, probably as a kid, very old school small business feel but in all the right ways. Carly was my salesperson, she was knowledgeable, professional, stylish and fun. I was shopping for something new with specific profession-based requirements and she was just fantastic. This is a place you actually get what you pay for, I will definitely be recommending them. Thank you Carly & Mast!

2022-03-29Love this place soooo much. Have been shopping here for years. They have a good selection, but the best part is the staff. They KNOW feet and shoes. Not just trying to sell you something, but really take the time to find the right fit for you. I was referred back here by a foot specialist after a foot injury to get the correct inserts and shoes. Very helpful. Will go back for sure.

2022-02-19I visited Mast Shoes for the first time this week. The quality of service, knowledge, and professionalism from the staff is unbelievable. Particularly Carly, the salesperson I worked with. Carly was so patient and helpful--my feet have never been happier! She even took a few minutes to show my kids some of the antiques in the store, which they thought was super cool! 2022-02-20I have been coming here for a few years and have had nothing short of excellent care and service. This multiple award winning business has been around for over 70 years! I stopped by about 25 minutes before closing on my last visit (unintentional - I didnt look at the hours) but they were happy to help. The owner zipped right out to fit me and assist. If you appreciate the full shoe fitting experience, function, and fashion, this is the place to be.Although I mostly shop from my power wheelchair, I leave it in the car when Im here because theyre always so quick to seat me and do the work of finding shoes for me. There is sufficient disability parking in front of the store. There is a restroom for guests that is always spotless.Every pair of shoes they carry is curated meticulously and thoughtfully, and you WONT find a poorly designed shoe here. They help you get them on which keeps your experience easy and comfortable, and also PROTECTS your shoes against accidental damage from someone who might not take the time to untie/reset laces or crush the heel trying them on, or packing them back in the box improperly. This adds VALUE to your service and purchase, as it prolongs the life of your new shoes. Your new pair of shoes will be uncompromised and in perfect condition upon purchase.I have never felt rushed or pressured into something that wasnt perfect for me.I can be a bit of a tricky fit between my R.A. and permanent back injury that caused some nerve damage (its crucial for your health & safety to not squish the toes). They make sure you have a proper, safe, and comfortable fit.Though I cant walk much distance, I am on my feet 5 days a week at work on a mat. I *dont* sit while Im working for the most part - Im a stylist with a full clientele. I need shoes that hold me up AND look the part. Although I qualify for medical disability at this point (Im 34), Im not mentally ready to throw in the towel.Improper shoes for someone like me can make a world of difference in ways that someone without chronic pain and mobility impairments might not always understand.
