To begin with it has easy interstate access. When I arrived I noticed a highpercentage of German cars in the parking lot which was really cool. The restaurant décor is excellent. Quite interesting to look at.The restroom was meticulously clean perhaps perhaps the cleanest I have ever encountered in a restaurant. The entire restaurant was spotless.Authentic German menu with a good selection at attractive prices. My main entree was luke warm. My dessert was stale and was breaking apart and lacked flavor to to dryneds (stale)
We really enjoy Metzgers. The Germam dishes are excellent and there are always other choices if its not your cup of tea. I gave 4 stars only because the last couple of meals Ive had seemed to be dry, lacking the sauces noted on the menu. I did ask for a bit more and they happily obliged.
The environment was fine and the staff was alright. Nothing amazing. The sides come out plated separate and it feels a little cafeteria ish. The food is mostly reheated and chain like feeling all and all.Its like the have all the right elements but decided to skimp out on food quality. They have skated a long while on the authentic German gimmick but globalization is setting new standards
Update on 08/24/2021 - Went here for my birthday, though it was actually 3 days early...only time I could go with my parents. Angie our server was nice enough to give me my free birthday dessert anyway. Food was excellent meal once Again.August 207, 2019 - Drove an hour to get here. Best German food I have had since I was last in Germany. The decor is always fun too look at. The staff is excellent. Our server was Kristina (SP?) and she was wonderful. Attentive with a bubbly personality. I ordered the Wurst plate, ate it all too. LARGE portions. Prices are reasonable. Glad I dont live close by, I would be obese.
The food and service was outstanding, the whole staff especially our server Christina was amazing, friendly and very helpful. The authentic German cuisine is presented family style with generous servings. I had the Hasenpfeffer (rabbit) with sides of spatzel and sauerkraut... absolutely delicious!!! My wife and I will definitely be going back for more!
Me and my girlfriend came to visit Ann Arbor for the day and stoped here to eat. Personally German style food is one of my favorites. However this place has overly vinegar and oily foods, I had ordered the perch fish and it was gross as the rest of my sides including side of potato pancakes and spätzle. It actually took forever for us to get our food so I’m guessing this is why some of my food when came to table was cold. I had to reorder another meal cause was all very disgusting to me. I ordered the Wurst platter and still was in impressed but ate it cause the owner was very polite. I will probably never be back here though. To leave one good insight in the many bad cause I don’t want to be completely negative the decor of the restaurant was interesting
We usually love coming to Metzgers on the weekend for their rouladen. We decided to come on a different day so I would have to try something different. I decided on the meat patties and hubby had the Rheinisher sampler. Service seemed a bit slow. I wasnt too impressed with the meat patties. They were very dry and couldve used some more gravy to help wash it down. Hubbys dinner was the same way, dry and very bland. I think well stick with the weekends and the rouladen from now on.
I would say this is a great family restaurant, but that would be a massive understatement. My parents took me to the downtown A2 location when I was 6 weeks old and now Ive had the pleasure of bringing my 10 month old son here. The food is tremendous, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is welcoming and accommodating. If you only have time for one restaurant while youre around Ann Arbor, make it this one.Update Apr 2022. The food has gotten even better and they even have a wonderful childrens menu with healthy options like grilled salmon and broccoli that my 15 month old loved. This place gets my highest recommendation.
Metzgar’s German Restaurant is one of the most popular and famou s restaurants in the neighborhood. The wait was about half an hour for a group of three people during dinner time. The staff was friendly, welcoming and introduced all their signature dishes in details. It was our first time to try authentic German restaurant in the US and we really appreciated her to help us decide what to order. The food was amazingly delicious and addictive especially for the sausage platter. There were three kinds of sausages and they were super flavorful & juicy inside.Their beer was also great with various options. I am not a fan of beer but we love the beer we tried there.
Kinda bland German food. What a younger Boomer might like for ethnic food. Not too flavorful, everything was a different shade of beige. The bratwurst, the schnitzel, the spaztle, and the sauerkraut were all just ok. The rouladen was better, the sauerbraten was downright bad.
This place was awesome and the food was to die for! The portion sizes are European and not American so do not expect to get a boat load of food but the food you do get will be delicious! They are very proud to be family owned and it shows. Even though I arrived at a very busy time in there was a small table that they are able to get me and I had a more than in joy able experience. My waitress Kayla Was very polite even when I was being that difficult customer trying to order in German without asking if she knew any at all. All the other guests were either families or great friends. Even the bartenders were saying hello to people they knew as they walked in the door. And I mean by name not just a standard greeting. I live about 4 hours away from here so I will not be a regular but anytime I am remotely close to the area I will definitely be returning!
Love the food wait staff and decorations. Dont let the location fool you. Its located in a strip mall on Zeeb Rd. next to a gas station. Once you get inside you forget about that. Lots of old world Germany charm. They serve authentic Germany fare and prime rib as well. Prices are very fare for the portions. Dont forget the German beer! Lots to choose from in big or small stines.
Absolutely Delicious! While on a spur of the moment vacation, my fiancee and I have crossed paths with Metzgers. Upon exiting the car the smell of german food filled the air and I was instantly excited. We were greeted at the door by a friendly staff, seated quickly and served a stack of sliced brown bread as our server took our drink (beer) order. We opted for a couple light German beers and an order of cheese spread to go with our bread/appetizer.The cheese spread is great and to be honest I think my favorite part of the meal, so dont be afraid to order one, or two!We then decided to each get a variation of schnitzel. I got a pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce (and lemons) and she ordered weiner schnitzel (veal) with capers and lemons. We both opted for the German potato pancakes which are both interesting and delicious as well as the spaetzle and gravy. The meal was authentic, interesting, and delicious. The restaurant was clean and inviting with an attentive staff. I have been to Germany multiple times and this food did not disappoint. We do not live anywhere near this restaurant and we both agreed, we will be back soon!
Metzgers was a fun and delicious German Food experience! As soon as you open the doors you are invited in by a plethora of amazing aromas. The environment was decorated with steins and clocks, though a bit cramped. Every dish we tried, we loved; cabbage rolls, spatzle, mashed potatoes, gravy, cheesy spatzle, meat trio, house-made mustards, beer, and especially the potato pancakes! Do yourself a favor and eat here.
It was my first time dining at Metzgers and it was on New Years Eve, we came from Toledo, Ohio to Ann Arbor to try some good German food and they did not disappoint us. We loved everything about the place, the service was great, the food was amazing and the German beer hit the spot! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great German food. I will definitely be back.
Who doesnt love some metzgers?! Excellent food and great prices. Try out their fish sometime, the perch is especially good. Youll find no shortage of traditional German food and an appetizer selection so great you can make a meal out of them. Dessert menu is great too. Friendly and helpful staff and service.
The portions here were pretty big and we were happy with our dinner for sure. It was also really entertaining observing people drinking their beer out of the giant boot get drunker and drunker as the amount of beer in the boot got lower. We will definitely go back here again. Thanks for a good dinner!
The Sauerbraten was perhaps not at the Bavarian level but Im giving this restaurant 4 stars for its level of authenticity, and for its longevity. Food portion size is quite large, and the food is fresh. I enjoyed my stay at this restaurant but I would say if you want to be considered an authentic Bavarian restaurant, serve Munchens highest rated beer, Augistiner, not its lowest; Spaten.
The authentic German food is amazing, nearly perfect. But, surprise! Turns out they also have the absolute best prime rib I’ve had in the Detroit Metro area in years! And its on the menu everyday.Top shelf liquor available, some fun specialty drinks to choose from. Fresh, scratch made appetizers, entrees and deserts. Experienced, professional and attentive waitstaff. It’s not a “fancy shm’ancy” environment—koo koo clocks and steins make it fun and interesting—but it’s inviting and clean and great for special occasions or just a good meal. We’ll be back!
The food here is so good and the staff is friendly and efficient. Its awesome because its food you arent going to find in every other restaurant. Fun decor too! I recommend the onion pie app and the sauerbraten. If you like smoked sausage the mettwurst (sp??) cant be beat!
Real busy. Food good but dont know if you could call authentic German. Example German potatoe salad no bacon. Portions a little lacking. But in general nice would go back not that far of a drive. Others have said tget were better at their old location in downtown Ann Arbor. Not a destination place
Our server, I dont remember her name, sorry, was so completely awesome and answered all our questions about the menu. She really made our dining experience excellent. My fiance was so pleased they had Das Boot of beer. We tried the Wurst sampler with brown, Dijon mustard and horse radish. Even our 2.5 year old loved it. The Copenhagen Schnitzel was so delicious. The sour cream gravy was so smooth and tasty. Definitely try the egg noodles and potato pancakes and liver ( if youre adventurous!). The decor was whimsical and fun to see. Dessert of the apple strudel was also wonderful! We cant wait to go back.
I called for takeout. I have accent when speaking English but 99% of time people understand me, at least after I repeat myself. But the waitress who picked up the phone today, said “I just don’t understand you.” after I said “can I order some food to pick up?” Then after a short uncomfortable conversation, she hung up one me before I confirmed my order or asked the estimated time. And I don’t think she even got my order correct. I didn’t encounter any waitress or anyone like her even in the first year I came to the United States.
The wurst was spot on, and the spaetzel was tasty. We also ordered a strip steak. The food was very good, overall. You get large portions for the price you pay. You can also order a bunch of small plate appetizers to share between 2 or 3 people. Either way, you will not be hungry when you walk out of Metzger’s. My only letdown was they ran out of the Black Forest cake, which is quite delicious. I’m still handing out five stars, because everything else was perfect.
This restaurant has been an Ann Arbor staple for the entire time Ive lived here, 1987 to present. When a family business manages to stick with what they do well and not get ahead of themselves or cut costs (as in quality), it might be one of the 2% of establishments that survive decades and generations. Plus, this is the only genuine German menu Im aware of around here. The staff is great, and will do whatever they can to accommodate all patrons. I respect that, as its not easy at all to work day in day out, always at the mercy of public invitees.
Cozy, well detailed, amazing owner. My friend and unengaged with the owner and he was well versed in the history, should since it has been family owned for a really long time. Great decor great food great pricing. Staff was super nice and helpful. I didnt know much about German cuisine, still dont lol, but our table attendant did and was more than willing to explain it. If you are hungry and want someone truly unique stop in and get fed. If you have time get educated about the history of the establishment. It is a long rich history spanning nearly 100 years.
I received two back to back highly recommended meals one had tough low grade beef vs the advertised slow roasted choice beef and then I tried to redeem the bad food with an app that should be easy the shrimp was practically frozen. Bummed out after driving out to a 4.6 star rated place to eat dinner. Luckily they serve booze... Lol
In Ann Arbor on vacation and found Metzgers German Restaurant. Very efficient and friendly service during our stay, Great authentic German beer on tap and in bottles and a full German menu. We started with the cheese spaetzle, which was outstanding. Of course we had to have schnitzel, which was the most tender I have ever had, I could cut it with my fork. The beet and purple cabbage sides were ever so tasty. I have spent 12 years in Germany and have been critical of most German restaurants in the United States. Metzgers is by far the best I have tried. Amazingly good German food and efficient service. You must try Metzgers German Restaurant when you are in Ann Arbor, MI.
I cant tell you how much I LOVE this restaurant!! Its probably my favorite casual restaurant in Ann arbor (scio township?). Really delicious food, authentic and lots of brews from Bavaria that are hard to find. My boyfriend is from Bavaria and he was impressed he could find this comfort food here. The meals seem expensive at first but they are always two meals for me since they are huge portions. Meal also comes with free bread
We went to Metzgers on a Sunday night and it was very busy. However, the wait wasnt bad and service was quick once we were seated. We got the Käsespätzle to start and the Haus Platter for Two and it couldve easily fed three (and I like to eat). Food was awesome, good bratwurst and Mettwurst was very good. Same goes for the potato salad and sauerkraut. Beer was also great of course, you can actually get some good German beers.
Dinner platter for 2 should be separate plates. My wife and I got this, I’m new to German food so I wasn’t a fan of most of the sides. The problem is the insane vinegar taste of the potatoes and sauerkraut kinda seeps into the other stuff and sausages. I guess if you like German food it’s ok but most of the items I didn’t like, it just tasted like distilled white vinegar. It would be better if for the 2 person meal they came on separate plates for each side.
My husband and I had never been to a German restaurant before and it far exceeded our expectations! The prime rib had not come in in time for dinner that night however the things that we chose were so delicious we will be back for the prime rib at a later date on another trip as we were from another state. Thank you so much Metzgers.
I took my granddaughters today, first time back in 10 years. The waiter and the woman who seated us were very friendly.I ordered my favorite, German meat patties and German fried potatoes. Today’s meal was not good and quite expensive. My family frequented Metzgers through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The food was always consistently good.Unfortunately that seems to have changed, very disappointing and almost $45 with tip ( 1 adult and 2 kids, no alcohol )
Amazing Take-out Feast for Grandmas 90th Birthday: In October 2021, our family arranged to take out wonderful German entrees, apps, and desserts for 30 people to celebrate my mother-in-laws 90th Birthday. Everything was flawless: food ready on time, in easy-to-use containers, with all the need condiments. We planned this event for months, and Metzgers delivered flawlessly. Thank you!
Metzgers is a regular stop when in Ann Arbor. They were really busy last Friday evening, but we got in after a short wait. The food was excellent as usual and the draft beer was superb. The service was a little slow. Loved the apple strudel! Our guest remarked that the sauerbraten was not as she remembered it as a kid when her mother made it.
Really good ciders and spaetzle. Ordered the mettwurst, was kind of disappointed with it. I felt it wasnt of any better quality than what I could find at a grocery store for much cheaper. I would say definitely go, just order something other than the wursts. Sauerkraut was good as well.
Our dinner tonight at Metzgers was delightful, and we dont use that word lightly! From the moment we walked in the door the customer service was superb and our server Emily was an absolute gem. We had the schnitzel and the wurst platter which should actually be called the best platter. I asked if we could move in there so we could eat their food every day. :-) (spoiler alert-they said yes!) Highly recommend!!!
Having grown up in a German-American home, and lived three times in Germany, I consider myself well-versed in German food. I recently was in the area and made a special effort to try this place out. I had been wanting too for a long time. There are many positives …and negatives. First the positives….it is in a nice area and the building is actually very nice. A small strip mall off the freeway. Outdoor seating adds to the European touch. Inside is what you would expect….beer glasses everywhere, dark wood, typical German decorations. Now, as kitschy as they are, I actually think they did a nice job. Nothing is dusty and dirty. Every horizontal surface has a collectible from Germany sitting on it. They have real German collectibles everywhere. I think the atmosphere is actually quite nice. The place was busy and that is always a good sign.music was soft and strange….classical music in a Rathskeller environment. Staff seemed friendly but overwhelmed. Nice bar to eat at if alone. Beer selection is very authentic. Glasses are authentic. I ordered a tall bier and they served it in a porcelain “Stein”. (In German we would call it a Krug, but here they call it a stein.) beer was great. Price of beer was quite high but I understand given the import of real German beer. That is where the positives stop. The bartender was in a huge hurry. She gave me less than a minute with the menu before asking “what will I be having?”. I hadnt even opened the menu up yet. I asked for Rouladen. Nope. Not on a weekday. (For those that don’t know, Rouladen is an absolute must In A German restaurant. ) so, because it is a weekday and Rouladen can’t be ordered, I ordered wiener schnitzel. Salad and “fried potatoes” as the bartender called them for a side. I was hurried through the menu by the frantic bartender and I hoped “fried potatoes” was going to be “Bratkartoffeln”. I’m stillNot sure if I got Bratkartoffeln. The problem here is the food. Nothing was bad. But for the prices, I expect it to be great! It wasn’t. The side salad came out in record time and looked like half of it was missing. It was very !! Small. Field greens , four croutons, and possibly some cheese I believe. It did come with some bread and butter . Then the entree arrived. The plating is a disaster. They put two large schnitzels on a small plate and the fried potatoes on a dessert plate. Yes the side dish of potatoes came On a dish I would serve a slice of cake on. You have three plates in front of you. Salad, schnitzle, and what turns out to be more like hash browns than Bratkartoffeln. Oh and a fourth plate for the bread. The schnitzel was not authentic. Was it Bad? No. It was ok. It was not worth the money and it was not memorable. They either are not pounding the veal out enough or the cook is giving it wayyyyy too much breading.(wienerschnitzel should be light and very thin. It is a delicate dish.) It was clearly over cooked. Here is the main thing they forgot….schnitzel is dry without a sauce. Wienerschnitzel doesn’t come with a sauce but must!!!! Come with drawn butter. None to be found. Bartender is so busy elsewhere waiting to ask for butter is not advised. It was dry as it was over cooked and no butter to dip it in. Fried potatoes on a dessert plate lacked any flavor. I paid my bill and left. Sad. I want this place to shine but the prices require great food. Mediocre food at great prices won’t bring me back. The big test for me is….would I bring my German relatives here? For a drink maybe. For a nice dinner , not so sure.
I experienced amazing customer service, by Vincent. My first time to taste the famous signature dish, Rouladen they have been serving since 1928. The meat was so tender it shredded the beef effortlessly. Melt in your mouth and shock your taste buds by spending well worth the money at this german paradise!
Outstanding! This restaurant has always been a family favorite.Tonight was our first trip in since the pandemic hit. It’s evident that the team here takes sanitation seriously, as evidenced by the extreme care being exercised by management and staff. Separation of tables, paper menus, single serve condiments, masks on all staff, and thorough sanitizing after each party departed are just a few of the actions I observed; it was most impressive to see. Most importantly, our meal was absolutely delicious - as always. I recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Great people, great restaurant.
Came in for dinner on Saturday, 9/12, around 630pm. Kind of busy outside, but plenty of room for people inside, so not so busy. I was seated at a corner table and waited for close to a half hour before getting up and walking out of the restaurant, because in that space of time the only person who acknowledged my presence was the busser. Now, to the credit of the hostess, she did offer me a to-go meal comped for the issue, however, not only do I not live nearby and the meal would have lost a lot of its appeal, but thats not the experience I was seeking. I made a special trip there so I could sit back, relax with a liter of beer, and enjoy what I understand could have been a great German meal, had any of the waitstaff bothered to at least make eye contact with me. I have been in the restaurant industry a very long time, and in my opinion, waitstaff should look at everyone that walks in and sits down in their eatery as if that person is going to drop a small fortune for a good meal. German is something I particularly enjoy and have no issue spending good money on a great meal. Sadly, Ill never know if Metzgers food is as good as they say or not, because the front of the house decided that a 1-top table simply wasnt worth the hassle. My advice? Make sure you go with at least a party of 4, because you know, you have to make it worth the waitstaffs while.
Drove by this restaurant countless times as a truck driver. Stopped in today with my wife and we will be back. She had the roast beef sandwich and said it was the best she ever had. I had the Mettwurst plate and it was delicious. Wonderful service as well. We will dine here again!!
My wife and I lived about 5-10 minutes from Metzger’s for about 5 years. It is one of the places we miss most from our time there. It is one of the top tier German restaurants I’ve ever attended in the US. Every dish we had there was excellent. The service is sometimes slow but who cares! -enjoy your dinner. I wish I could eat there again.
They have a great birthday special! Came in for my BD lunch on Saturday. The food was fantastic! It all tasted like homemade cooking. Came out quickly. The Thousand Island dressing from the salad was so good, I ended up putting the rest on the pan fried potatoes, which were awesome. The Jager chicken was great as well. Highly recommend it.
Been to Germany several times and Metzgers menu offers a great variety of tasty entrees I enjoyed there!! Wait staff is friendly and helpful. Food was nicely plated, competently served, and totally enjoyed. Interior is clean and full of German artifacts. A treat is in store for all. Prices are moderate, Zeeb Road exit, good signage.
Metzgers has a huge variety of authentic German food and beer. Great quality of food, reasonable pricing and friendly service is the reason we keep coming back. We live 2.5 hours away, but make a special trip to Metzgers when we need some delicious German cuisine! Try the cheese spread, the beer flight and the schnitzel, you will not be disappointed!
We celebrated my sons birthday here on Feb 7th. They had the table ready when we arrived. They offered him a 80 oz boot glass to celebrate with! It was great for photos! The food is great and we tried schnitzels and potato pancakes. The kids were able to eat from a kids meal.
We had a great meal here last night. Northern fried perch tasted just like my mother used to make (she grew up in UP). Delicious! It was a tough choice with so many other tempting offerings on the menu, but I really enjoyed it. My wife and daughter loved their dinners as well. The atmosphere inside is very much comfortable authentic old-style German.
This has to be one of my favorite places to go for dinner. Metzgers has very good German food, and is the best you can get here in Michigan. The interior of the restaurant has a very casual and welcoming feel to it. The Germany decorations make for an awesome vibe in the place. The entire staff has always been so welcoming and provided great service the whole time. Even when our large parties have stayed there for hours even right up to closing, theyve never pressured us to leave. The food is incredible, and if you go here be prepared to take home a doggie bag. Their portions are very sizeable, and most entrees come with 2 sides, which for a side are quite large. I strongly recommend trying the potato pancakes side dish because they are delicious! If you want to get German food at a nice, casual restaurant this is the perfect location!
Delicious home cooking!!! The staff were all very friendly!!! I noticed them cleaning the dining room, and every other booth was closed because of covid. Another nice touch was the bottle of sanitizer on every table!!! I felt very safe and enjoyed the food very much!!! We will be back!!
Slow service and apparently overworked staff. Cute decor but stressful vibe. Pretty sure we got overlooked for a while after being seated. I asked why others were served before us who came after us and was told that it was due to them having reservations. Good traditional German and Americanized food. Way too expensive for the quality of the dining experience as a whole. My wife and I left full, but not relaxed.
It was a Friday night and busy and crowded. And because it was so busy the service was a little slow and the aisles a little narrow as they squeezed in more people. Even so, our server was friendly and working her butt off, so definitely cant complain about that. The onion pie was the highlight for me, as was the brown mustard, which was very sweet.Had the carrot cake for two to go and honestly, its a big enough piece for three. Very good and very filling.
Very good looking place on the inside; but goodness gracious! Is that how you treat every first-timer by completely ignoring them?! I waited 10 minutes and the employees in there literally looked at me and kept on walking past greeting everyone else as they came in the door... guess Ill spend my money elsewhere.
Loved the atmosphere, the food, and the service. It was a lovely evening. Had the wurst platter for two and the food was tasty and abundant. It went nicely with some great beer. It definitely feed two of us and we also shared with a third. Even the dill pickle soup was good.
Wonderful German place, with traditional dishes as well as an American themed portion of the menu. The atmosphere is fantastic, with a friendly staff. Prices are high, $20 meals essentially, but very well worth it. Not a regularly visited place, but at least annually. Would recommend.
Ive been wanting to go here ever since they moved. It definitely caters to an older crowd, and they seem to do that really well. The food was decent, the atmosphere is nice, and the waitstaff friendly. I cant say if the German food was authentic, but it definitely wasnt your typical American fare. At the same time, the final bill seemed higher than Id expect for food of that quality, and it left me thinking of other places in town I could have gone instead. Ill stop back for lunch sometime and see if I have a different experience.
What a wonderful place. Nothing fancy decorated with old beer steins and some great newspaper articles. The food was very traditional and cook to perfection. The schnitzel was cooked perfectly we had both veal and pork. The beets and cheese spread were so different like Ive never had. Service was excellent Rebecca was one of the best servers Ive had in a long time, wonderful when someone enjoys their job. Will be going back for sure!

2021-11-14We enjoyed our visit to eat authentic German food. The staff were very friendly, especially our server, Laura, who was attentive and helpful, and suggested some good dishes to try. We will definitely be back again soon!We came back again after a week and the food was delicious as usual, particularly the chicken livers.

2021-11-09My wife and I travel extensively, to include throughout Austria and Germany, and are always on the lookout for good German food, and our meal at Metzgers German Restaurant was outstanding! We had schnitzel, spätzle, Bavarian red cabbage, sauerkraut, and a Warsteiner Light Pilsner to complete the German experience. See the mouth-watering photos included in my post. We also loved Metzger’s décor. This is a dining experience we hope to repeat over again each time we visit the Ann Harbor area.

2021-08-17Driven by this place many times and was excited to try a local authentic German Restaurant. It is like stepping into Omas(grandma) place. The kitschy decor is homey and the staff was super friendly. However the food was not like Omas 😕. It did not have the traditional feel. Felt flavorless, mass produced, and not fresh. The portion sizes were large, you get enough for 2 meals. Not sure if we will be back...might to give it another try.

2021-09-05Delicious food, helpful servers and team. Fantastic that this restaurant is family owned and has been for more than 90 years. Really authentic German food that was fantastic. Will definitely visit again!!

2022-03-06Seated by the owner and served by an experienced employee, we enjoyed several different dishes of traditional German foods and some unexpected options. Our friends remembered the French onion soup from another visit and said it lived up to their memory of it as the best they have had. I tried the salmon and it was perfectly prepared. The cucumber and beet side dishes were a fresh option. My husband requested his German potato salad heated, and I ended up eating more than just a sample bite of it, as it was delicious!

2021-10-19Unbelievable. The food was utterly amazing. Schnitzel was tender and moist. Rouladin literally fell apart in your mouth. Seating was quick. Server was attentive and friendly. Great place!

2022-05-20Dinner here is great. Authentic German food with a good German beer list. The Weiner schnitzel is the best I have ever had in a restaurant, and that includes when I visited Germany. Some of the items have a tomato base in the sauces. I dont remember that in Germany, nor did my German relatives make traditional recipes with a tomato base, but I bet it is a regional tradition that I have not experienced. (Note that these are all good dishes, too, just not what I might have expected).Excellent food, great service. I have been going to Metzgers since they were downtown and I am still a huge fan to this day.

2021-08-17Walking distance from Holiday Inn & Suites Ann Arbor West. Tried the Metzger’s Wurst Sampler, both very tasty sausages but the brautwurst was certainly the winner; especially when topped with the sweet or spicy mustards. For the main course, I had the daily special of two beautifully cooked and delicious paprika cream sauce covered schnitzels with a side of spatzel and red cabbage. All in all very good and paired well with both the raspberry and the woodruff (lighter drier beer but with a bit of an apple cinnamon taste to it) German beers. Definitely a must try if in the Ann Arbor area!

2022-06-15Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, conveniently located. Most of the food I tried is very good; the deep fried jumbo shrimp however is extremely salty; it taste like sea salt or kosher sprinkled on their along with a little pepper I can’t taste the pepper though. Other than that, please try this place; it’s a place I’d recommend to others.
