The campgrounds are great. Very clean bathhouse(could be heated)! Good location. But the park messed up our reservation. We booked 3 nights and when we were getting a fire started the lady from the desk came and told us that we only booked 2 nights and we would need to move sites to stay another night. When she was asked by our neighbor campers to call and see if the campers coming would move sites she made it very clear she was upset and refused to call to ask. This was just bad customer service!
Site I had was small, and close to a swamp.Because the DNR didnt maintain the site well, I couldnt read the site number painted on the road. There was a mix up and I had to move the next day to the site across the road . This site was also small with no distinct barrier between it and the site behind it. Site 38 and 39 have to be 2 of the worst sites in the campground.
Staff friendlyThis park needs a serious shower and restroom update.Weve camped here many times and introduced out-of-state people to this campground. Its embarrassing that restrooms are in such poor shape.Needs better cleaning. The same spider has been hanging by the restroom door for five days now, among other things. Insufficient number of toilets/showers. Cost per night has increased, but updates have not.Best wishes for renovations.Thank you for your consideration.
Absolutely loved the location. So close to Lake Michigan it was hard to believe. Really great staff. Wonderful that you can buy wood and ice at the main office. My only cons were that the shower was so hot the water was practically boiling... And the camp sites are quite small and close together. If you plan to be at the beach for most of the day its not really a problem. Had fun.
Campsites were great a little crowded. Beach and dunes were beautiful there was so much to do and see. The price was a bit high and we also had an extra fee for having an out of state car. The bathroom and showers were full mosquitos and very dirty. The price was extremely high for one night of primitive camping was at least expecting cleaner facilities.
Camping at Muskegon state park Channel Campground. Our sites 120, 121 a bit muddy due to recent rain. Park otherwise very nice. Situated between Muskegon Lake and the channel to Lake Michigan. Camp host in attendance. Lots of sandy sites with parking pads. Plenty with shade. Nice beach house at Lake Michigan.
Nice secluded sites in the second loop in the channel. They dont pack you in like sardines. The rangers are very helpful and friendly. They are constantly patrolling the grounds. Only gave 4 stars because I didnt check out the bathrooms. This is my new favorite state park.
Recent rainy spring /summer, several lots flooded, this looks like a long time issue. According to other campers the flooding and water has been an issue for years. Choose a site wisely. If you were unaware then you are flooded for days! DNR have little to offer but cant do anything about it. True they dont control the weather but could warn incoming campers of the flooded campsites. They also hold a number of lots for people coming in but will not offer those to those already camping and flooded out.
Online it says checkout is at 11am and check in is at 3. So why arent the campsites cleaned up after the previous camper? We had 2 sites and it was full of dog doo and the firepit was so full of ashes we had to clean it out, the other one is falling apart . Poison ivy all around the sites 64 and 65 also . No waste rinse water at one of the dumping sites not marked either. Swings sets are really squeeky and the outhouses has bad smells and its early in the season :(. On a good review note it was peaceful and not crowded yet.
Fabulous time camping, swimming in Lake Mi. & Muskegon Lake. Watched a Cruise Ship, freighters and a barge pass thru the channel. Also the normal parade of fishing, cabin cruisers, sailboats, pontoons, & jet skis sunrise to sunset! Fished, Kayaked, crafted and antqued in nearby Montague/Whitehall. Acquired a new sunkissed look while burying out toes in the warm golden sand. A new sense of vitality has enveloped me, I breathe a little deeper and It is well, it is well, with my soul!
This is a nice campground, especially if you like watching ships go through the channel. The barges are REALLY LOUD if its foggy though. You can see all across the inlet to the city, and watch all the boaters and fishermen through the day. Theres a little bit of hiking in the dunes nearby with a little beach on lake Muskgeon, and the beautiful Lake Michigan beach is a short drive or bike ride. At time of writing the review, dogs were allowed, so expect some barking. Bathrooms were well kept. I would go back any day.

2021-08-22The most that you can ask for in a campground. Nice grounds and facilities, beachfront access for kayaking/swimming, close to a large beach and just outside of town.

2022-07-02Very nice campground. Shower houses and restrooms very modern and clean. No camp store and no threaded water spickets to fill up, but we just used our portable water jugs. Fun time watching the boats in the channel.

2018-06-26Nice campground with plenty of hiking trails, nice sandy beach off Lake Michigan, and a long walkway spanning the whole length of Muskegon channel. The channel is maintained to allow freighters, the 760ft Kaye E Barker is pictured, to come into Muskegon lake. The campground is nice, watch out for the cottonwood season. Lots of sand all over.

2018-07-07Best campground we have ever been to. Easy access to Lake Michigans beaches and downtown Muskegon but feels quiet and secluded. We will be back multiple times!

2018-07-12One of the best and underrated campgrounds on the East shore of Lake michigan. The beaches are great and less crowded than others in the area and the campground has large free space between sites. Walk along the channel and watch the cross lake fast ferry or view the submarine museum. The piping plovers are on the South beach in nesting season with the known nesting areas marked off.

2018-07-01Beautiful! So many beaches within walking distance to choose from. The lake Michigan campground is all shade and hilly, you can walk right over the big hills from your campsite to the lake Michigan shore. The channel campground is sunny and sandy and flat. Some sites in the first loop of the channel campground are cramped. Lots of boardwalk fishing and boat watching to be had at the channel at the channel campground, still very close to the lake Michigan Beach Shore although not directly connected.
