Comment: The people were nice. The shuttle service was good. With all the traffic and Constuction they did a great job getting me to the airport. The one thing I found petty was that I filled the tank up upon leaving the hotel. It was 10 miles to the rental car return. I got charged for less than 1 gallon of gas. It was negligible on the fuel needle. Since they charge about almost 6 bucks a gallon this seems like a little bit of a money grab for National

Comment: The representative was very helpful getting me set up. Becoming a club member doesn’t cost anything and gives you access to a higher tier car. Highly recommended if you rent a lot, or just want to get a reasonable upgrade.

Comment: I was told by National that Im responsible for the cost to replace the windshield on my rental due to a rock chip that occurred while driving on the 405 freeway in LA. I understand being accountable for damages to a vehicle if I was at fault. However, dodging bouncing gravel on the LA freeway system doesnt fall into my personal responsibilities.

Comment: My experience with National was outstanding... however, the Chevy I rented would not connect to GPS for directions unless I turned off the VPN on my phone (leaving all my personal information exposed to hackers). This is unconscionable !!!!

Comment: The skip-the-counter, quality of vehicle rxperiences are the reasons I rent exclusively from National. That said, the vehicle return process was extremely disappointing because the published address for drop-off was listed as the yet-to-be-completed new facility across the street from the current National site. It took two guys with Masters degrees, Google maps, and a bit of luck to find the drop-off location. It’s understandable that National is looking forward to this new facility, but you need to do a better job of serving those who are currently renting vehicles from you.

Comment: The pick up bus drivers are rude and obnoxious. Not happy with the lady’s treatment. She’s saying things no one can hear and tells me we’re full you cant get on when clearly there was room and I only had one carry on and just me. I didn’t mind waiting for the next bus, but she just was rude and a bully. Not impressed with her customer service. She should take a class on how to speak to people politely. I wish I got her name.

That turned out well with the large gas tank enabling long drives without stopping and plenty of room for kids to spread out. Easy to drop off too at a different airport than pickup location.

We got online to find out after hours return process. When we returned it, my husband stepped out of the elevator and fell off the curb. He fell hard. The curb was painted black, or orange or yellow. You are just waiting for someone to sue you.

Comment: Most important is the fact that the driver set my suitcase outside of the bus at the wrong terminal. We needed to get out at Terminal 5 at LAX and the driver took my suitcase out and set it on the curb at Terminal 3. You can imagine the panic that ensued when we got to Terminal 5 and I did not have my suitcase (containing several valuable items). He was in such a hurry, he did not take the time to make sure that all suitcases were picked up. He set them all out then hurried back on to the bus and drove off. Luckily I was with my daughter who volunteered to RUN back to the previous terminal stops to see if by chance my suitcase was still there. When she got to the Terminal 3 stop, there was my suitcase sitting out on the curb all by itself. I considered myself extremely lucky. I learned to never trust your bus drivers to only set out the exiting passengers luggage. Had someone stolen it or had it been taken by security I dont know what I would have done. Please, please instruct your drivers to at least watch the luggage until it is all picked up or be more careful about identifying each passengers luggage before setting it outside. This experience has completely soured me on National Car Rental. The only reason I gave it any stars was the helpfulness of the person checking me in when I got the car and the ease with which we returned the car.

Comment: I wouldnt rent from anyone other than National. Their Emerald club is excellent as you can rent a mid-size vehicle and take any vehicle thats available in the lot, except luxury of course. I have rented from different locations. Not all have Emerald club available, so youd have to check first. I base my airport selections based on those that have a National car rental open 24hrs and have Emerald club. All the staff Ive ever encountered are super nice. Never have I had a negative experience. This last time was out of LAX on Memorial Day weekend. Theyre vehicle selecting were slim, but they were washing vehicles and getting them to the lot quickly. Theyre drop off is so quick and convenient for air travellers. I highly recommend.

We had doubts regarding the free shuttle from the airport terminal as there were signs but they werent clear enough and we werent sure we were at the right place. There were National shuttle bus passing us by that made us think we were in the wrong place. We felt lucky that we were in the right place so might need to look into that in case other people gets lost. Overall very good and will definitely recommend to our friends and family.

Comment: Ive been a long time Emerald Club member and have always had pretty smooth experiences renting vehicles where everything went just fine. This time, I had a wrinkle. I lost my key fob and so began a day when I first was very disappointed in Nationals customer service until near the end when my adventure ended on a high note and proved that its when things go south, its how the company responds to your issue that determines whether theyre a good business to deal with and I will remain a loyal National customer as a result. When I reported the lost car fob, National responded quickly saying they would dispatch a tow to get the car and would send an Uber on their dime to take me to a local Enterprise location where a replacement car would be assigned to me. Great, except the Uber dropped me off at the incorrect address leaving me stranded. I called the local office and was told that there was no paperwork for a car for me, they had heard nothing about it and moreover, even if there was paperwork, there were no cars available and they were closing in less than 10 minutes. I was advised that I could likely get a car at the LAX location and they would arrange that and another Uber to take me there. I was transferred to a line that after a seemingly endless message, it ended with telling to call back during business hours and then went dead. Suffice to say I was not amused.I elected to call my own Uber and when I arrived at the LAX location was told that there was nothing in the system about a replacement car for me. It took some time, but the 2 guys whos names I dont remember were remarkably patient and diligently tried to get the system to conform to the situation. It seemed to take forever but eventually they worked it out and said from here I could go choose a vehicle and leave the lot. Before leaving, one of the guys apologized profusely for the difficulties Id experienced and asked what he could do to at least partially atone. I told him it was not his fault and he personally had nothing to be sorry for. He then asked if I had paid for my ride to LAX and I told him I did. He then asked for the cost of the ride and said he would take that off the invoice total and following that, offered to credit another $50. While I would not get back the day this whole thing had cost me, I was impressed at the attempt to offer me some degree of offset and that a local employee was empowered to do something for the customer. In the end, losing the fob was entirely my fault but the way National stepped up to deal with the situation despite some setbacks was impressive and I remain a loyal customer.

Comment: I visited this National rental location for business and was immediately impressed by the fantastic customer service. As other reviews mention, you take a complimentary shuttle at LAX and it drops you off. Since I’m an emerald club member (free and just worth it over all), I was able to skip the line and select a car. I was immediately greeted and directed where to go to find my car category. We discovered together that there were no more mid-size SUV’s. This is where the customer service really takes off. Mousail was extremely solution-oriented and offered a Maserati for the inconvenience. What an upgrade! We had an extremely enjoyable experience from start to finish. Happy to now be a loyal National customer thanks to Mousail!

Comment: My first experience there was a little rough but wow, did they make it right!I arrived to LA on a business trip and took a Mazda CX 30 because that was the closest thing available to fit my needs. It just wasn’t large enough for my needs on this trip. I returned the following day and expressed my concern to the friendly and very helpful staff.I left with a much larger vehicle that not only meets but exceeds my expectations and needs for my trip at no additional cost to my company.The National team is what makes this review 5 stars. I spoke with a friendly lady and we struck up a conversation about my hometown, Seattle. Her daughter is giving her dissertation in Clinical Psychology there in August. I was able to provide her with some local things to check out and she couldn’t have been friendlier.I appreciate people who go above and beyond to make an experience not just good, but GREAT! That level of customer experience obsession is hard to find and she delivered. Exception to the norm happily and gratefully found!Highly recommend becoming an Emerald Club member. This allows you to bypass the line and go directly to the Emerald Club row where you’re able to select a car and go. Your membership tier will allow you to select better cars as you go along. Comment: The experience of picking up the car was easy I was asked if I wanted to prepay for my gas. I said that I would. When I got in the car I tried to link my phone to the gps. I was never able to get it to work. The car drove fine and got me to where I need to go. Upon return of the rental a very nice man greeted me. He asked if I had filled my tank . I said know because I had prepaid for it to be filled upon my return. He had no record of this and said I could dispute the charge. I asked why he couldn’t help me fix this misunderstanding. He said he wasn’t able to and I had to catch my flight. I was not happy about this. Now I have to call and dispute a charge that I didn’t ask for. This situation made me a bit annoyed. I hope I don’t experience this again .

Comment: They hire a third party agent who steals business from other car hire companies by putting bogus customer service numbers on the Google search results for those companies. The agent, kradflyllc, makes false promises, charges more than the National listing on Priceline, and gives a bogus name and number to call if there are problems, then sends a confirmation email with the National logo in the corner. Comment: I have executive status, which entitles me to take any car in the lot, apparently that excludes 15 passenger vans. I dont know why. anyways, there were 3 parked in the lot, and I was not allowed to take one under my reservation. I had to take a walk up price which was more than $100 more than had I reserved that van prior! I dont know why 15 passenger vans are different, but why is the walk up price more than the reservation price? anyways make sure to prebook and if your executive, make you dont need a 15 passenger.

Exit booth was backed up, the woman didnt scan the car or even look at my license but made it a point to have me sit there while she called front desk to ask why “somebody” wasnt doing their job. At that point I didnt even bother with changing the card she opened the gate and flagged us through with no rental agreement. Worked at erac for a number of years, this experienced was not to the usual standard . Must have ran the plate or scanned on the way out bc charges came through normal. Car was exceptionally clean.

The driver of shuttle #31, Wednesday, 20 March 2024, approximately 1610, was extremely rude and ruined entire experience. We fly into/out of LAX about once every five years and first with Hawaiian. She never asked us what airline when we got on or even when we were at the last drop off, never announced Hawaiian but did announce others. When I asked if we were going back to the rental agengy she said yes and I asked about Hawaiian and she smartly replied that she called out Tom Bradley twice, which she did, but not Hawaiian. Because of this experience, you have lost a customer, we will not be using National any longer, even though we receive a discount through the PGA of America. I will pay more for better service and good luck.

The driver was not friendly at all and inattentive ( lending back and looked on while a couple with children struggle to get their items onto the bus). He also displayed a small form of road rage when the car in front of him did not run the yellow light. Once we arrived to the rental facility, there was someone shouting Enterprise to you right, National upstairs. As a club member, my husband and I walked directly to our car ( the car was the best thing about this experience). What happened to the quality of service? What happened to greeting the customer? It was an exhausting 21 hour day for me but luckily Jay was at the Car Return aisle waving me into my spot. Comment: National Car Rental is a great place to rent a vehicle. The Emerald Isle is convenient and your choice of vehicles, depending on which location and when you arrive, are average. I did have issues this time when arriving at 1145pm at LAX. I walked up to the only line that seemed open and the guy at the register was on his phone watching something and when I tried to inquire about an email i received he just pushed me off to the other line.I was also told that if there was a van in the Emerald Isle when I arrived, they would readjust my price to the emerald isle compact car price, which they all said they couldnt do it.Customer Service at this specific National Rental Car location was probably the worst I have ever encountered at National.

Comment: I’ve had a good experience with National car rental and had joined the emerald club since the first time I rented from this company, however, in two separate occasions I had issues with my car and had reported it. Unfortunately nothing got done and I wasn’t able to stop and exchange my car. It’s not convenient to go through stopping and going to switch cars while on a work trip or vacation. I think National is a good company and I have enjoyed the Emerald club, I just wished they were more in touch with the clients especially when they report an issues!

Comment: Excellent rental experience. Arrived at LAX for the very first time. Followed the signs out and almost immediately saw the National/Enterprise rental bus. The ride to the off site rental facility takes some time, so plan accordingly. Seems like 30 minutes is appropriate. Off the bus, Emerald Isle, got a car and off I went. Smooth and efficient.The return experience was excellent as well. Well marked return entrance on the side street. The waiting room and rental area is bright, well lit, very clean and very professional. The employees are cheerful, things are calm and comfortable.The ride back was uneventful. Excellent experience!

Comment: Dont rent through here, they dont care about customers at all. We rented a 12 passenger van through priceline at National and got there and they didnt have a 12 passenger for us and didnt seem to care at all and then they charged us $230 for an extra 3 hours which seems so ridiculous. Also they told us the gas was prepaid but obviously added it on because we got an additional $300 charge after our original payment for the week. A 15 passenger has zero luggage storgage and we were traveling with 9 people and all our luggage plus a large stroller and car seat so we had to fill the front few seats with our luggage up to the ceiling and climb into the very back. A couple of us got really car sick from being in the very back and it was so hard to get all luggage and stroller in and out which is why I DID NOT RENT a 15 passenger van. National could have cared less about that or tried at all to give us a deal for the extra 3 hours. I will never rent from them again, customers should come first and these big rental car chains dont seem to care about that.

The car, a Ford Escape, was excellent and the process of picking up the car and checking out of the National LAX facility as an Emerald Club member could not have been easier. And their staff was friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Returning was also easy. I drove into the return lane, handed the guys to their rep, Fabian and was on my way via their shuttle to my flight. Comment: I rented from National for a business trip (LAX) and the number of shuttles they usually having running means you arent waiting long for a shuttle to pick you up from the airport. All rental agencies seem to have a members aisle, so nothing to special about that. However, its always quick to return a car and they had a complimentary shuttle to drop you off at one of the several hotels next to LAX. Finally, I left my jacket in the back of the car seat, I logged a lost and found claim. They found it, and returned it (for a fee, but hey it was my fault) me. Next time Im in LA for business, its National.

So, I tried @National car rental on more than one occasion and found them to be 1) much better quality in the cleanliness of the vehicle 2) and extremely competitive on price. Los Angeles is my benchmark where when I have rented from @avis rental car. Id go through at least 3 cars before I found one kind of fit to rent, and many times Id clean it myself after I left the lot. Not that way at all with @National car rentals. Forgot a Patagonia jacket in the backseat and filed a lost item form immediately only to continue to get notices that my item had not been found. Pretty obvious it’s a free for all of those cleaning the cars after return. Would be very interested to know what % of items are actually recovered by renters and if there are security cameras in the cleaning area watching workers smile as they take home new found treasures. Comment: What a great seamless experience from the moment I walked up to their service desk. I was greeted by a lovely charming lady who guided me and others in the right direction. It was a rainy cold day, and she didnt seem to mind making based on her friendly and welcoming demeanor. Then, the experience continued at the exact same level of professionalism by the staff at the desk and the young man who ran off to find my car to bring it to me so that I didnt have to catch not one drop of rain. We did our booking online, when we arrived, we did the self service kiosk and even got to choose our own vehicle. You can try the class you want until you like it and then you just load your luggages, drive to the exit kiosk booth and your set. Easy process and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

The one at LAX used to have the best car option in the entire country, as I travel there every 3-4 weeks for work, but lately it has been a mediocre selection. Additionally, I would love to see National change up their rewards program. Each 4 day rental is about $500 for me and I only get one little marker on the board to get closer to a one day free rental. Comment: We rented a 7p-minivan for $1000 for 2 weeks. The car was almost new with a milage of only 12.000. The best thing was, that we could choose our minivan out of 20 minivans. They had several brands (mainly chevrolet pacifica) in different colors and with different gadgets. The car drove our 4.000km (2,500mile) without any complaints.

Selection was decent and we were happy with the car. Return was smooth using drop and go. I’m usually a Hertz Presidents Circle renter and was impressed with my experience here.
