Comment: The OC location used to be my favorite due to the quick and easy Emerald Aisle and the prompt exit and return to the facility. Those days are gone. There’s no longer an Emerald Aisle and getting out and returning your car require adding 15 minutes to your journey time. Along with the rest of SoCal, at best this is meh!

Comment: Efficient, friendly service upon pick up. Cars are clean and appointed well. Good signage for getting out of the lot. The light signal at the top of the exit though is awkward because the cars coming out of the rental area had a red light and even the cars coming from the right (assuming picking up passengers from baggage claim) also had a red light . . so I was wondering why as no cars were opposing me coming out of the rental area. Returning the car was quick and easy. Very happy with National RAC wherever we go.

Comment: Ive been an Emerald member for years, the selection is great on the National side, I can use Enterprise also. They always treat me well and usually have an upgrade that fits my needs. Majority business travel, which they make it one less thing I need to worry about. Just show up, pick a car, or they have a good suggestion. Staff is always friendly and helpful. I occasionally have to use Hertz or Avis if National is not available in that airport. I can tell from the extra time and lack of selection those other two provide, how much I miss National and request from our agency every time I have to travel.

Had to sit and wait for the item to returned. It came back in tact and Ms. Brittney was facilitating everything. Such great work! I thought I had gotten everything back. Come to find out my work phone fell out of the bag (still in the car). I called the phone, someone picked up and my phone was returned with promptness! Best customer service I’ve ever received! Comment: Of all the times I’ve rented from national, this one was for the birds.The key fob battery died on my trip to Los Angeles from Orange County. I called roadside service to help with being locked out of my vehicle due to the battery dying.To add insult to injury, there wasn’t a physical key attached to the key only non-fabricated key. I waited over an hour for the roadside team to call me with status. I ended up walking 2 miles to CVS to get a replacement battery, then to a tire shop to borrow tools to change the battery. Great place to rent when everything is working, but definitely disappointing with roadside assistance.No follow up or concerns from the roadside team.

Comment: National in John Wayne airport was a very poor experience…to work with… customers are very aggressive and entitled of getting cars“ upgrade for free” free rental and not pay for gas etc…The customers are very aggressive not cooperating with policy and regulations of National rent a cars - like showing them drivers license and credit cards…..The managers Thomas, Kara, Victor, KyleThey refused to pay commissions to the agentsAnd avoid the aggressive customers behavior towards agents…..Many times customers they do rent cars online when they arrive We agents don’t have any more cars to fulfill the customer needs. But national tell agents we have to figure it out and give something to the customer, even if we don’t have any available cars.Customers are Physical and verbal aggressive towards agents behavior many customers they rent a car then they wants something more luxury for free.. therefore they feel they should have all they want BMW 7 séries for free etc..Unfortunately agents take this type of customer 8 hours per day.. this is stressfulmanagers and some 3 agents they disappear to not deal with this horrific customers during work hours. When other agents are being abused by customers verbally and physically.National don’t want pay commission to the agentsAnd allow some agents Jordyn and Courtney and Scott, leave work during work hours and busy times, for more then 3 hours and still pay hourly..When other agents are taking aggressive and abusing customers for 8 hours a dayNational doesn’t pay to agents to be abused by horrible customers behavior lead agents leave the company.It’s a very unstable company constantly changing management.Cars with bugs 🐜 or no cars at all to fulfill the rentals for the day.Unethical and unprofessional from national upper management.The customers only give good reviews if they get a rental for free, or agents excuse them not paying for gas. Comment: As far as the physical car rental picking up the car and dropping it off it was fabulous. No issues what so ever. Staff was friendly I even almost left the keys in my pocket and the guy chased me down to the bus to help me avoid a $300 charge. I was super grateful.Now the bad part. Reserved the car they put a hold on my CC for $330 which is no problem. Hold for the car and incidentals, no issue with that. I make a modification to my reservation to request to keep it a couple more hours because of our travel plans initially. No extra charge making the change however they put another $330 hold on my account. My travels plans changed again to where I was leaving a day earlier so I made another modification to return it early which would have been cheaper, except now I have (3) $330 holds on my account for the same reservation. For what reason. Returned the car and finally got charge for the actual cost of $247 and still has the $990 worth of holds on my card for 3 more extra days. I am glad nothing major came up during that time.

Comment: PHX Airport National is one of the worst run rental sites in all of the USA. Upon arriving around 10pm and selecting a vehicle as an Executive Elite, there were only 3 exits open with over 20 cars in line for each exit. It took almost 35 minutes to exit the rental car facility. In finding a manager, (I believe his name was JB) he apologized saying they are doing the best they can. My response was to ask him to open a lane and have him help reduce the traffic. He said it wasnt his job and said to be patient. My recommendation to management is to have an express lane for Executive Elite members so they can quickly exit the facility. Whether its the process or the people, the timing it takes to exit this facility is punishing!

Comment: Because of an error that I forgot the Anaheim location closed at Noon (Why would they close at Noon?), National was gracious enough to modify my car rental within seconds and had me rerouted to John Wayne Airport for a vehicle pick up. The staff at John Wayne was awesome. Had my car ready to go! Upon my return, Yahya, the attendant knew that we had to leave immediately and took care of checkout in a very quick manner. Very happy with National Car Rental. I just wish they had a system where I couldve been contacted by the Anaheim office that they were closing soon. We couldve been there but my wife and I thought we could do a leisure walk from Disneyland. An employee at the Anaheim location couldve been seen as going above and beyond (like the people at John Wayne). If this was a review for the Anaheim location, I probably wouldve given them 2 stars.

Comment: When I was planning my trip I checked multiplier parking options and considered Uber as well. I logged into the Parking Spot website to find rates. The only way I could find them was by choosing the reserve option. It gave the option to prepay or pay onsite. Since I could not find rates I assumes the pay on site was the price if I didn’t choose to reserve a spot. Big mistake! Approximately $10 a day extra by not reserving. My fault for assuming but feel it is not my fault since I could not find the correct daily charge. NEVER AGAIN.

Comment: Generally, and in the past, we’ve had great experiences here. We continue to have great experiences with National around the country, but this location has really, tragically slipped. I understand this location doesn’t have an executive area, which is unfortunate, but in the past, the team has always worked to make sure we got a car we are happy with. Today, I was told by Gordon that being an executive member only entitles us to a discount on upgrades, directly opposing the national policy of “You’re always guaranteed a free upgrade.” We were pointed to a Nissan Rogue that had massive dents and 8” plus scratches from what’s appears to be the car being keyed. (We have photos). When we asked to exchange it, Gordon lost it, and began talking about my wife’s body with co-workers as we were just steps away, “the skinny one” he kept calling her, as if the only way to talk about women is their size? Ill not post the other comments he made as to avoid further vulgarity.Fortunately, Sam stepped in. What a beacon of kindness and understanding! Super helpful. She gets it. It’s just a rental car. Asking for one that isn’t destroyed for an executive member seems like a bare minimum.I don’t know what happened to this location. In the past we were always treated great. Comment: After 15+ years of renting with National, I have only had one less than favorable experience. When a vehicle recently had some mechanical and pickup readiness issues, I was contacted swiftly by managers, the problem vehicle was swapped out easily, and there were several follow up texts and phone calls to resolve any doubts or ‘reservations’ 😂, I may have had. While the resolution could have been more thorough by the company, I understand the scope of operations they have going on, and I am happy to continue as a loyal National client. I highly enjoy the emerald club features and executive upgrades at my level of usage. I hope that specific branch locations such as SNA will return to the substantive program, as it is fun, and rewarding for longtime clients to get to choose their own vehicles on leisure, family, and business trips. One of my other favorite experiences with National has been the wide variety of employees of all ages around the US. They are always happy to chat, work a little magic when reservations aren’t tidy, or a payment method is expired. It’s been great.

Comment: The rental facility being so close to the SNA airport is very convenient. It does require going to a counter to get a vehicle so their is no bypass. There is a smaller vehicle selection than LAX due to the size, but they did have an SUV. The person working at the counter was pleasant and quick at getting us checked out. The vehicle was an Audi and it was nice to drive. The only issue we ran into and why I docked a star was that the Android Auto quick working part way through our trip. The agent response to my message about this was to bring the vehicle in and swap for another. This would have required over an hour of driving time, plus filling up gas before returning, plus going back to the counter and then having to get a new parking pass at the hotel we were staying at when we returned. We chose to use our phones for directions instead. Other than that, the experience was good.

Comment: Recently, we rented a car with National for 1w+. We returned the car yesterday at 9AM PST (Labor Day weekend). One of my friend realized he misplaced his passport, doubted he may have dropped it in the rental car. So we went back at 12:30 PM PST on the same day.The reception we got was not admirable, their policy is weird, all lost and found will be placed in a vault and keys to the vault are with a single person. And the said person is on a vacation. So they cannot confirm if detailing team at the rental cars found a passport while cleaning. They asked us to wait till Tuesday to confirm if any Passport is found. Spoke with quite few people at the desk at National Santa Ana airport. None were compassionate to do anything.Special shout to Luis, supervisor of the detailing team at National Santa Ana airport- who went above and beyond, to help us. He spoke to the people who manager lost and found and called for special help amd went to check the vault, he could see through the inlet of the vault, that there was only a pair of goggles in the vault, though he did not find a passport, he confirmed it’s not found. He spoke with us patiently and helped us, beyond his work needs him to.People like Luis makes me go back to National again. Appreciate all you have done to help us out.

Comment: Since national asked for this review, I will comply. I have been a national customer for almost 15 years and overall I am very pleased with their service, selection, and pricing. This one trip to Chicago on 8/22-8/24 is an exception. Upon arrival, I jumped into a particular SUV off the executive aisle, and jumped to another one, realizing it was a better choice. In doing so, I left my sportcoat in the former SUV. I called one and a half hours later and was told they will call me back in 30 minutes. They never did nor did they call the second and following return day. When I returned the vehicle I waited close to 20 minutes to finally be told they don’t have the key to the lost and found. They then recommended I call to customer service. The point being, National does what they routinely do very well, however, when the extraordinary occurs they leave a lot to be desired.

We need to alert others who are considering renting through National that they cannot trust National commitments nor any meaningful response from customer serviceThis summer we reserved a 7-seater, 3-row SUV, months in advance, through National at John Wayne Airport. When we were assigned a SUV, we were repeatedly assured by the woman at the National desk that the vehicle had a third row folded into the floor. We needed this size vehicle to accomodate our family of 7 adults as we toured Southern California.After finally locating the SUV in the parking garage, we loaded up our luggage along with 4 family members, including my 85-year-old mother-in-law, the rest taking an Uber to our Airbnb rental. Unfortunately, when we arrived at our rental home, we discovered that there was no third row. As a result, we could not tour Southern California as we planned, and anywhere we went 2-3 of us always to take an Uber in addition to our National rental SUV. This limited our vacation plans, was frustrating, and expensive.When we complained to National they offered to provide a discount on the weekly rental, which we appreciated. In addition, the National manager at John Wayne Airport promised that we would also receive two free rental days, which would be posted in a few business days.Since we did not hear anything from National, and the days were not posted to our Emerald account, I began to reach out to National customer service as well as the Emerald and Rewards programs. We were reassured, by text, by Customer Service that the days were requested and should be posted shortly. Now, three weeks later, the days have not been posted, and no one from National has responded to multiple phone messages and emails about the situation.I am still hopeful that National will come through and post the free days, which we could use for an upcoming trip. However, since it has been three weeks with no response whatsoever from National, I thought it was important to share our very disappointing experience with others who might want to use National Car Rental.Trust in customer service is critical to use services, especially regarding car rentals. So far, I have found, on all levels, that we can not count on promises or even communications with National customer service.

When I returned it there was a computer glitch that had me go to the counter to resolve, rather than just checking in as I drove in as usual. Sam and Constantine helped me in a few minutes. The following morning (8AM) contacted # listed on reservation that connected us to a national call center. Representative said she could reserve another car for us but we would have to go back. Asked if they could drop it off at our hotel (less than 5 mi away), but was told they couldnt. Said we had to wait for the airport hub to call us. They were able to put us in a great vehicle that fit my family and our luggage for our trip to Disneyland.Unfortunately, we ended up with a flat and left without any of the appropriate tools that should have been in the vehicle to change the tire. Luckily we were able to cancel the roadside assistance service (an additional cost) when we were able to flag down a like branded vehicle that had the tools we needed.Once we made it to LAX to swap out our vehicle for another, Andrew Solis greeted us, listened to our situation and concern, and our desired outcome. He did everything he could to get us into a comparable vehicle and did all the talking with the National manager on duty to help us out. In the end we were very pleased with how he handled our situation and helped up get out in a timely manner and left my wife feeling great with the vehicle which they were able to put us in.The only remaining issue was when we returned the vehicle to the airport in Orange County, the charge for the roadside assistance was on the bill still.Thanks to the professionalism of the attendant and manager on duty it was taken care of and he apologized for the situation of not having the vehicle properly equipped with tools that would have allowed us to handle the flat tire without requesting assistance.

Im sure the working environment down there drains on them. We got a brand new (600 miles) black Chev Camaro RS in the Emerald Isle. Checked out at the gate and drove off hassle free. At the end of our two day rental period, we filled the tank, returned the vehicle and were charged a fair amount for the rental. Everything was finalized at the point of return. Charged out, received paper receipt too.I highly recommend joining the Emerald Club. You enter your info once! It is held in the system. Simply make a reservation for a mid sized vehicle, show up, go directly to the Emerald Isle and pick out a car. Thats it! No waiting in line at the counter. I called into customer service and disputed the charge which they eventually reversed.Just be cautious that they may try to charge you for something you did not approve!
