Dont let the outside of this place full you this is the best Chinese restaurant I have found anywhere in this area. We are not from this area and travel all across the country and cry Chinese food places from coast to coast and this is one of the best. The crab rangoon here was the best that I have ever had and all of the dishes are spot-on perfect. To my way of thinking the food here is what all Chinese food places want to be and so rarely are. The ambience is great and the service was impeccable. Dont miss this place give it a try.
First of all, my apologies for the half eaten plate, but theres a purpose. Ive eaten a lot of Chinese food, and honestly, sometimes the chicken is a little suspicious...not really having the appearance of chicken. That is not the case at New Mandarin Garden. They actually use real, white meat chicken. I believe it was the rib meat from the breast. And it was cooked very well...tender and moist. The breading was done well...not too thick and chewy. My only disappointment was the heat level of the General Tsos. Im used to it being nice and spicy, but this one was rather mild. Very delicious nonetheless. The rice was seasoned and tender as well. I would have only given it 4 stars, but the EGG ROLLS!! WOW!! Big, perfectly fried, and stuffed with well seasoned pork and veggies! These are easily some of the best egg rolls Ive had. As you can see in the photo, its already half eaten 😁
Amazing food but even better service. Its a little far from our house, but we pick it up at least once a week after our sons doctors appointment. It takes us 50 minutes to get it home so we have to warn it up. But its still some of the best food Ive ever had. And every person that Ive interacted with has been friendly and and the service is fast.
New Mandarin Garden is a frequent visiting spot, probably a few times a month.I consider this restaurant to be more on the gourmet side of things with the way they prepare their food, the flavors, the presentation, and the overall menu which is expansive.I have eaten nearly everything on your menu, and always fine myself amazed with how consistently good they are. The food always looks incredible, always taste incredible, and their customer service is always impeccable. This restaurant is always busy, which is a telling sign that they are doing things right. Please drop by to dine in or for a carryout, you will love your food and the service.
Sorry folks, but I was not impressed. I was looking for something different, Chinese wise, and was disappointed. When I went to your website and clicked on Menu, I saw shrimp and broccoli for $9.50. Nothing there told me that that was a lunch menu. When I went to pick it up, you charged me $16.96. I guess you learn the hard way. And also, Im usually unable to finish all the food that Chinese restaurants give me, but this was very easy to finish it up. Not much quantity. I could have done the same at home for a fraction of the cost. Maybe Ill try you again, in the distant future.
I tried this place after seeing great reviews, but this is one of the worst Chinese restaurants I’ve been to. Totally overrated. The house fried rice was awful and tasted like they warmed it up in a microwave. The meat was low quality, flavorless, super chewy, and tough. Even the fortune cookies were terrible! Hong Hua down the road is a much better option.
Found this gem by accident, when I was traveling into the area. Not your normal greasy Chinese food. Chicken is lightly breaded, not thick outer breading. We ordered Almond Chicken and Cashew Chicken. Big bursts of flavor. Make sure that you order an egg roll. They are hand-rolled and not bought from a supply house. One down side, there are no individual combo meals, so everything is ala carte, unless you order a family meal.
Been eating here on occasion since I was a child- always a fantastic place for a family meal or a nice lunch with a friend. The menu and interior furnishings have changed over the years but the quality of the food has been consistently excellent and the pricing is very reasonable (especially for lunch). I dont eat out much, but New Mandarin is always my top choice when going for Chinese food! Dont let the surrounding storefronts or the tucked-away location fool you, this is a hidden gem and is absolutely worth a visit.
I tried New Mandarin Garden for the first time on a to-go order which was placed late on a Saturday night. The order was taken expediently by Gary, I even called back to add soup after the initial order. The order was ready when I arrived and packed expertly. They were even kind enough to warn me to put it on the floor or on something level so that it didnt spill. It was packed so beautifully there was no way it was going to even tip over. Upon arrival at home I dug in. It was delicious and exceeded my expectations. I had spring roll which was delicious flaky crust and wonderful filling. I had the vegetable tofu soup a departure from my usual wonton and I was not disappointed. The veggies were crisp and the broth was delicious. My main entree was the double happy family which I turned into a triple happy family for an extra $2 I added chicken. It was scrumptious and very generous with the shrimp and meat they did not scrimp on the shrimp like many places do. Generous serving size. It was a wonderful, positive experience, exactly what I had hoped for and more! Exceeded my expectations -- I look forward to coming back and eating in next time -- but is now my preferred GO-TO for TO-GO Chinese food!! Highly recommend them! EXCELLENT!
The food is excellent, the service is excellent. Its a great place for a family gathering, but make sure to call ahead if you have a large group or if its on a holiday! They can get very busy!7 of us usually go, we all order different dishes and share. I havent had anything that I havent liked yet!I recommend very highly!
I been here several times now. The interior of the restaurant enhanced the experience. The waiter are professional and promptly took our order. The food was delicious. I did not realize how popular the restaurant until trying to get a set on Christmas. Certainty there were more people coming in for take outs than people waiting to seat for a meal. The efficiency in which the restaurant filled the orders and fed the ear in patrons was absolutely amazing. I got a laugh that they closed the next day to recuperation.
Very nice menu. Would enjoy a few more dishes without shellfish or pork. Cashew Chicken was delicious. Egg drop soup was flavorful--could have been served hotter, but I was so hungry, I ate it at the temperature it arrived at the table. Service was impeccable. Prices are slightly above average for the area. Then again, so is the food and the service!
Havent been there in a long time but was happy to find that the food was still very good. We had Kung Pao chicken and Mongolian beef. Most of the lunch entrees were about $9. Pretty good considering that they include rice, egg rolls, and soup and the portions are decent size. Egg rolls and hot and sour soup were very good.
We love this place! We eat in or take out almost every Friday night. The food is fresh, they are happy to accommodate our childrens dietary needs and there is an authentic Chinese menu. The atmosphere is very kid friendly and Gerry is a very welcoming host. So glad to have this so near to our home.
2017 been going here since I was a knee-high child, and now everyone is moved back to area, though we live separate my parents, brother and always love this restaurant, come here often for great food and a calm atmosphere. The atmosphere is illuminating-peaceful takes stress away, along with delicious reasonably priced food.Definitely get your moneys worth, and will continue coming here! If it were possible they deserve10 stars for food and service not 5 they are wonderful!
Completely revamped decor is upscale and cozy. This second generation restaurant is still family run. Updated menu has all the Cantonese and Shezwan classics with additional Korean dishes. There is a gluten free section on the menu as well. Service is excellent. Parking no problem. All on one level... So very handicapped accessible. We have been going here for years. One of our favorites.
First time here. Much nicer than I expected. Got these great little chips to dip in sweet & sour sauce. Absolutely yummy!Werent sure what to order so we decided on the Mongolian beef and chicken with green beans. Plus fried rice. Everything was really good. Plus we had leftovers to take home. We will be going back.
My wife and I have eaten here for years. The food has always been first-rate. Late last year Gary and Jerry remodeled the interior and exterior and modernized their menu and everything is even better. We love the new decor and the revolving specials menu. Last night we had two appetizers, the tempura eggplant and the duck with sauce and veggies in a Chinese bun. We shared an entree of fresh seafood chow mien with homemade very thin and crispy noodles. All of these dishes were wonderful. I also enjoyed my Saki Martini from their new bar. All in all, a terrific place for Chinese food and cocktails.
We tried it recently , the hot and souer soup seems to be quite “specific” ,not similar with the rest of the chinese/american restaurants .My other option of the meniu (Singapore Noodle) was much inspired , tasty well season .They where nice to agree and exchange the soup for some eggdrop , so I could figure nothing wrong happened with their chicken broth. We’ll give another try , just don’t recommend “hot and souer soup” unless you like strong strange spcices.
Love the sizzling rice trio on dinner menu. Quick efficient service, delicious menu items, no msg. Canton almond chicken is excellent and Mongolian beef. Many tasty veggie choices. Korean offerings too and a few with Thai flavors/offerings. Bar here also. Attractive ambiance. A favorite.
Superb atmosphere with plenty of delightful and tastful accents, from the fish tank had lovely shelf-like rock features and kissing fish, cushioned walls by the large booth to absorb sound, and it was all refreshingly clean!I got the sezchuan garlic chicken mild, and it was a mild. Very light flavor, no spiciness from the pepper or garlic. The extra brown sauce from a veggie dish was scrumptious and satisfying. Fresh veggies, with a pleasant crunch to them.Fast service, great prices, and we got what we asked for.Unfortunately my stomach is very finnicky, and was upset the next day. It might have been from something else I ate, and I hope it is, because Id like to try their dishes with a bit more spice and flavor. The value and atmosphere are without question.
The food here was excellent! Highly recommend the sizzling rice soup and emperors shrimp! However, you cant really go wrong with anything you get here! They even have dining options dependant on the number of people you have eating, which have a little bit of everything and all their top hits!
This place was amazing. I remember coming with my parents when I was young. Now the place is looks completely different, alot more modern and and just all around more comfortable. The food was delicious especially the GARLIC SALTED TIGER PRAWNS. Service was great and the owners are super friendly.
Unfortunately the food I had tonight was of fair quality and not tasty. My wonton soup was bits and pieces of noodles and only a few whole noodles. My chicken dish was fair not tasty. The white rice was sticky and the amount was small. I know one thing I won’t be back, not worth the price.
To be honest, this was some of worst Chinese Food I’ve had. The place was nice and the service was fine-but the food...the food tasted like it was frozen from the grocery store freezer isle and served in the restaurant. The Wonton Soup had no flavor and no salt. Wontons tasted pre-frozen. The breaded chicken I had was mushy and the sauce was the same as the dipping sauce for the fried wontons-Gross. No ingenuity or freshness. Sad for a place that could do better in its cuisine to match what they’re selling with the service and decor.
Food is AHHH MAZE ING!!! My favorite is their vegetable fried rice!!! Their beef and broccoli melt in your mouth like butter!!! We have never been disappointed with the food. This place is clean!!!!! Including the restrooms. Friendly staff, the owners are always helpful. Great atmosphere and food.I’m so very perplexed at some of these reviews. “Ghetto”, “pan handlers”, “run down”? Where are some of you getting this information from? 13 Mile and Orchard Lake. Are you sure you have the right location? LolAll of those claims are false!! I do understand if someone was describing the parking lot as needing an update. I would agree. In New Mandarin Garden’s defense, they are not the only occupant in this plaza. Meaning not their full responsibility to fix/repair/replace. I guess I won’t understand why some people feel the need to leave lies on a review. It’s crazy to me.
We placed a large company order today with NMG, and they worked with me to get the order to them in the best way possible (email, fax, etc) and were very accommodating to the efforts. When I picked it up the person who assisted me was very friendly and ensured I had everything I needed. The food tasted great! Felt authentic, and not cheap ingredients. The chicken for example were white pieces instead of that chewy nonsense you might get elsewhere.Thank you!p.s. - One of your fish in the tank wants to either eat humans or be one.
This is the only restaurant I miss when I leave Michigan. For as long as I can remember Ive had the Green Bean Chicken with fried rice, egg role and won ton soup. If I was on death row, that would be my meal. Everyone Ive ever taken here has been amazed, when people ask me what my favorite restaurant is, I tell them New Mandarin Garden on 13 and Orchard. Its the best.drops mic.
Amazing hidden gem in Farmington Hills. Their off menu item “5 pepper crispy beef” might be my favorite dish in the world. They also make a solid Mongolian combination, fried rice, hot and sour soup, and wonton soup. We no longer live in the neighborhood, but always make an excuse to come back and visit.
Had take-out here once - Mandarin Family Dinner for 2. Not impressed. Mongolian Beef was fatty, Garlic Chicken slimy and tasteless, rice was dry, egg rolls were empty and it wasnt cheap. Better off spending the extra money down the street at Hong Hua. The place was packed so I guess I picked the worst thing on the menu. Not willing to find out, we will not be trying it again.
Tried this place for the first time after seeing the good reviews and did not live up the reviews I saw, first of all the food was bland not much taste and over priced for the amount you get compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, the interior is clean I’ll give them that.
I wish they were open later the food is not the best Chinese food however it is nowhere near the worst the inside is clean and the workers here actually speak English only problem is I always feel unsafe coming in here its not their fault but they could do something about the people loitering outside the restaurant

2021-12-16Well to say Im disappointed would be an understatement. Ive been coming here my entire life... With my grandparents, aunts, uncles and immediate family. Everything from holidays to family celebrations. It was a staple in my childhood and young adulthood. My husband and I picked up a carry out. We placed our order at 7:34pm and was told 20-25 minutes. We arrived, paid and then proceeded to wait until 8:20. No one communicated a longer wait. We just waited and waited. Then our food was brought out with a quick sorry for the wait. We drove home and opened up our dinners. My husbands chicken was far from well done, our second rice looked like it was only 3/4 way filled and my shrimp fried rice had some shrimp just thrown on top. This was far from my 20+ years experience. My husband called to try and communicate what happened and the man on the phone completely disregarded him. Didnt care about the time or food issues. Im really sad to say I dont think its worth the trip anymore. I can understand mistakes happen but when a customer brings it to your attention you dont even say anything back or attempt to create a resolution... that is beyond disappointing.

2022-01-10Owner takes pride in the place. Hands on. Food is excellent never had a bad meal. Always fresh and can tell it prepared from scratch and well. He makes great drinks too. Old fashion was great! I APPRECIATE THE CLEANLINESS OF THE PLACE!

2022-05-05The dinner for two is a great deal! Me and my husband replaced both the entrees, got the almond chicken and black bean noodles, both delicious. Owner and staff were very attentive and super friendly!

2021-12-16Wifes favorite spot... but needs to get it together, ordered and was told 20-25 and waited 45-50 then called with my concerns that my almond boneless was not crispy and the rice.. the cheapest thing you scimp on? No offer to do anything about but told sometimes that happens. So most likely will not be back unless something changesTip: If youre going to have somebody running the food outside you should let them know when they pay that its going to be an additional time not just disappear and peek out to see if theres new cars.(Update: Rice was had a few partially cooked pieces in it which was not pleasant either!, My wifes shrimp fried rice looked shrimp was literally thrown on top of the rice? Not actually cooked with the rice?? Crab was 👍🏻)

2022-04-20Our second visit was nothing but stellar. After walking out of an Asian restaurant on Telegraph and 15 mile -30 minutes earlier because of no service- we were relieved and pleased of the excepyio service and cuisine here.We began patronizing this restaurant while channel 4 was covering the Winter Olympics. The segments showed the freshest ingredients and food preparation. It sparked my attention! After our bad experience elsewhere, the owner told us “all you want is good food and service”.Thank You!!!!

2022-05-13Every item we ordered was awful...General Tsaos chicken, shrimp w lobster sauce, shrimp w garlic sauce, house fried rice. The fried rice looked and tasted like they took steamed rice, added a scrambled egg and vegetables on top as an an afterthought and there was absolutely no flavor.Thats $127 Ill never spend there again.

2022-05-16The quantity of the food is great. I tried the hot sake which was really good. They have added Korean Chinese combinations so you can expect good options to choose from.

2022-05-18How do they have a 4.5 star? I won’t be surprised if their chef isn’t even Chinese. Flavors are so bad that I had to take it to go and cook it myself. Price is on the expensive side, but quality of food does not reflect. Never coming back!!

2022-03-07We were told 30 to 40 minutes, but it took 90. Ok so they gave us free crab Rangoon, that was just cream cheese. Our food was gross, no taste and totally greasy and not edible. We ate here for years but not anymore. Very disappointed. I gave 2 stars because I like the guys who own the place, but not the food

2022-04-22My husband and kids, and I have been dining in and getting carryout from New Mandarin Garden for over two decades and love their food! Their service has always been excellent!
