I drive an older car and as a result have frequented almost every auto shop in the area and this is by far the best place. They are very kind and keep you well informed on the status of your vehicle. Digital inspection reports and online status updates are awesome features! Highly, highly recommend!
I had some tires replaced today. I was impressed with their friendliness and turnaround time. I normally perform my own service and maintenance, however if theres anything mechanically above my comfort level I will be taking it to Northern. Rodney and the staff were great.
I had extensive suspension work done, plus new tires, front brakes, and an oil change. My service advisor, Rodney, walked me through all repairs and texted me photos in advance showing the older parts that needed replacement. Was also upfront about work not needed now that might be necessary down the road. Vehicle was serviced in reasonable amount of time and drives like new! I very much trust Rodney and the team at Northern Auto.

Wonderful Service and great advice on my 2013 VW beetle. I had front and Rear suspension replaced and rear New tires and my car is diving like new 😃. I recommend Northern Auto Repairs ! I called in the morning and was hoping to get an appointment for sometime this week. When I told them the issue I was having they were able to get meIn on the same day.They were extremely fast and efficient.The entire staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.I will never take my car anywhere else!
I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze. I brought it in due to my antifreeze leaking and check engine light coming on and off. I received a very detailed message and pictures and video of the leak. They also brought other leaks to my attention that I didnt know about. I have been to many many other mechanics before and northern auto was the first place I felt like I didnt get ripped off or forced to get something that didnt need to get fixed. I asked about needing a possible tuneup and after speaking to Rodney he told me I can hold off its not not something that needs to be done any other place would have told me to do it to make extra money. I also talked to Rodney about the oil that I should be using and they are by far the cheapest for semisynthetic oil for my vehicle. I am a female and its very hard finding a trustworthy mechanic and after coming here for the first time I will go no where else. Ive had my car since 2017 with 27000 miles on it it now has close to 100000 thousand miles on it. After they fixed everything they recommend my car drove better then me driving it off a certified car lot. The quote I received was much higher then I anticipated it being but Rodney was able to work with me and cut costs as much as he could. If I could give 10 stars I would. I would highly recommend trying this mechanic shop and ask for Rodney. The invoice is thee most detailed invoice of any mechanic shop they really take the time to explain everything in detail. Each job is outlined with labor and parts cost. They also have a LABOR AND PARTS warranty 24 months/24,000 miles. Its very much appreciated. Thank you.
Northern Auto, Kamile and Rodney are always extremely helpful and informative. Most recently they replaced the front strut, drive belts and alignment. Other times brakes etc have been done. I always feel like I am getting honest information about what needs to be done and quality services.
Rodney was extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable. Throughout the experience he explained why certain items needed addressing. Never felt that I was just another number; truly felt as though I was a client that was respected.
My car was very difficult to start. A tow truck driver told me the problem was a remote starter. It was disconnected but I was still having problems. Northern performed an initial diagnosis. There was no charge for everything they did for me and instructed me to go to my dealership. I am very grateful for their kind treatment and would recommend them in a heartbeat.
A gem of auto repair shops. They were very easy to talk to. The svc advisor did a great job of listening to me and even walked out to the Kia to look for himself. The car was ready as quick as was needed for a harmonic balancer and other damage caused by the belt. Northern will be my go to garage.
My husband and I have taken both of our cars here for repairs over the last few months and i cannot see us ever using another repair shop. Repairs were done quickly and Rodney was extremely helpful and a pleasure to work with.
I rarely leave reviews but I can’t recommend this place. I have no issue paying for a service but I was quoted an outrageous amount for a relatively simple repair. I ended up getting a quote from two other local repair shops and both were half the cost.
Standard service done professionally with an excellent interface. I love the text updates on progress and the ability to see photos. It was a treat to meet one of the owners at pickup.

A great big thank you to Rodney and the team at Northern Auto Repairs. I have been going to this shop for a very long time. Although they are extremely busy, I never felt like just another customer. Everyone from the staff who answer to the phones to the ones working on the cars are courteous and professional. My repairs were performed within the timeframe promised and it was a pleasure start to finish. They even arranged for and paid the cost of an Uber ride for me. It was a very nice and unexpected bonus for doing business with them. I highly recommend them. Thanks as always.
Rodney Watkins was professional & friendly when I called to inquire Re: service. I was having my car towed & he kept in touch with me throughout the morning to make sure he would still be able to do the repairs & get my car back to me same day. He called promptly with estimate as promised. Car was done early. When my son drove me to pick it up, he needed air in one tire. I asked Rodney if it was ok if he filled it. Instead, he had my son pull up & he checked the pressure & filled all 4 tires himself. I will definitely return because Rodney was honest, friendly, & the kind of neighborhood businessperson I want to deal with. He deserves a raise. Thanks Rodney.

Came back from a long drive back from vacation with the family; car brakes were completely shot and I needed my vehicle fixed ASAP so I could get back on the toad the following week for work. After speaking with another local garage that was totally swamped and could not even make an appointment, I spoke with Kamile @ Northern Auto who asked what I needed done and by when - she was able to not only meet my needs, but she also did it incredibly fast and at a very reasonable price. I saw the 4.8 star review and was excited to check out a mechanic that seemed to be loved (searching for a mechanic in the area that does good work when the job is more than I can take on). From the first time through the door I noticed some concerns. They use some classic sales techniques to make you feel like they are doing you a favor. They did it to me then I watched them do it to a couple coming in to get brakes worked on. They say something like, “We are so busy, normally booking a week or two out, but you know what, I’ll squeeze you in in two days.” This makes you feel like they are on your side, but really they are just priming you to say “yes” to whatever cost they tell you the repair will take.As for cost, they told me it would cost about $950 when all I brought my truck to them for was an abs light, knowing it was a failing wheel speed sensor, which I communicated to them. When I asked about the cost there explanation was done in a way to warp numbers and just get me to sign up. When I questioned specific aspects of it I came to find that the labor cost is reasonable, but they charge significantly more than parts should cost when they buy parts. They were going to charge $500-$600 for a part I could get at O’Reilly’s for $190 or from the OEM website for $250. I’d understand a markup of $50 or maybe even $100, but $300 seems insane to me. They’d be making more on the part than the labor to put it in. I asked if I could buy the pet and bring it to them but they wouldn’t let me.TL;DR: Seem really nice, but they are just doing that so you say yes when they want to overcharge you. This is the kind of place that gives mechanics shops a bad rep for taking advantage of people who don’t know much about vehicles and fair prices.
Thankful for all the previous positive reviews as they led me to Northern Auto - I am very happy I chose this repair shop. My 2013 Malibu needed some TLC, mainly involving attention to my brake and A/C systems. All is running well now thanks to this team! I found the inspection break down - with photos and notes/descriptions - that was sent after my cars inspection to the be extremely helpful. I have never experienced that type of evaluation before when getting work done to my car; it made understanding any problem areas much easier as I was able to view photos and any notes. Kamille was very helpful from the start with scheduling, down to taking my payment over the phone. Rodney was very knowledgable while talking to me and explaining findings from my cars evaluation and giving options for needed repairs. I will be using Northern Auto for any future vehicle services!
I am very satisfied with everything start to finish. Kamile and the lead tech were amazing to deal with, very friendly and I felt like my truck was in good service the entire time. I regularly work on my vehicles, but had an exhaust rust out so needed them to do it as I do not weld. I felt like if I knew nothing about vehicles I was comfortable with the technicians. As I knew nearly everything about my truck, I still felt very comfortable with them. All in all, they won my business from here on out and highly recommend them over other service shops in the area as I have tried quite a lot.
Northern was recommended to me by a colleague (Subaru owner) after purchasing a VW Golf. It is situated between work and home and is a bit of a drive for me to get to, but entirely worth it. I now have a Honda Pilot that I also bought used and I trust that I will always know its condition and am confident it will be worked on only when necessary at Northern; they do not hesitate to give the thumbs up and say everything looks good when no repairs are needed. The monthly newsletter gives helpful hints about car care and beyond. I appreciate you all.
Northern auto repair has never failed to make my family and I happy with their services. There staff is so carrying and makes sure you understand everything about the processes they will do with your cars. Wednesday we had the shock absorbers and front struts replaced at Northern Auto on our 2015 Honda Civic with 80K+ miles. This is an expensive repair. We have used Northern Auto in the past. They are reported to not be the least expensive, but we have had good results.The car handles better / feels tighter.In my opinion, mechanics are similar to doctors. You need to find one you can trust and that trust remains or diminishes based on the outcome of the service provided. So far, our experience with Northern Auto has been positive.
I took my car for an oil change and had my two little kids with me. The owner was so kind and they had so much for the kids to do which was not expected. I never even had to bring out the things I brought because they were so entertained. Plus the service was fast and great. Car is running great. We will definitely be going back for future car needs.
The employees at Northern Auto Repair were very helpful in explaining how to drop the car off and pick it up. I particularly liked that they sent the diagnostic report via a link in a text message. The quote for repairs can=me the same way. No other auto repair shop has ever delivered a quote to me that way. It was really convenient to look at the diagnostic and quote and decide what I wanted to do without having to go into the shop or even go sit in front of my computer. I got the repair quote on Monday morning and my vehicle was ready to go by 3 pm Monday afternoon. So fast and easy!
Ive been coming to Northern Auto for many years now. They have always done a great job finding the problem and solving it. I drive a 2010 Escape and it still drives very well. I go for oil changes, tire rotations and for any issue I have. 100% trust them with my car.
Ive been going to Northern for years. Originally, it was to help my father drop off cars for repair. Now, more than 30 years later, Im still taking my own cars to Northern. I feel theyve been honest with me regarding what my vehicles need, and have helped me keep my older vehicles running. I also appreciate that they follow up on the repairs, checking to see if everything seems to be okay. Most recently, the brake light came on in my van. Turns out the brakes needed quite a bit of work... rather upsetting, since Id had a dealership check out the brakes about 1 year earlier. But, since the brakes still didnt feel right after the dealership charged me quite a bit to fix them, I really wasnt convinced they did anything useful. Now, after Northern fixed the brakes, the vans braking feels like it should. Very definitely a huge improvement. And, before doing any work, they sent me pictures of the issues, where I could clearly see that the work was needed for the brakes and for the worn serpentine belt. I take my family on vacations in this old van -- it is important to me that it be kept safe, and I believe Northern has helped a lot in that respect!
They were fantastic! I had a flat tire with a screw in it and pulled in just before closing time and they managed to repair it and have me back on the road in ten minutes. They did not once complain that I showed up as they were closing. I will use Northern Auto again.
They were able to diagnose my cars issue in a timely manner and were able to work within my short timeframe. I had my car back the next day fully repaired. Plus I appreciated the sanitary procedures that they have implemented during this pandemic. Overall would recommend!
Took my car in for a leaking water pump and left with a wealth of knowledge about other repairs that will be needed soon. They were fantastic across the board. Honest about the work and very fair pricing. I’m likely going to purchase a new used car instead of repairing my current one, and I will certainly take it here for inspection. Can’t recommend them enough!

I have been going to Northern for many years & have always received excellent service. They are honest with what needs to be done & the repairs are top quality. When I pick my car up it is very helpful that they tell me what future maintenance I will need with estimated costs & time frame in which it should be taken care of. I always buy the Car Care Club for free oil changes & discounts on maintenance & repairs. I usually keep my cars for 10 - 12 years & with Northern taking care of my scheduled maintenance & repairs I have never been stranded with a car that wouldn’t run.
Great experience! Felt I was treated very well and with respect. Anthony is great! I love how they send you a full report on your car that you can look at before calling and discussing what you want to do! I also appreciate thy they have a deal with a car rental place to help you stdy mobile. A little pricey but i felt it was worth it. Definitely will be back.The only thing that bothered me would was female mechanic complaining, rolling her eyes when Anthony spoke to her, and swearing while he was on the phone and in close distance of me and another customer. Very glad I didnt have to deal with her personally or I feel like I would have had a different opinion of the place.Other wise everyone else was very friendly, from the guy who drove me to the rental place, to the guy who worked on my car... They all made me feel good about my choice. I highly recommend this place and will be back for future services.
Im a big fan of Northern. Id driven by there for years before I finally stopped in with a problem. Not sure why I waited! Their team always greets you with a smile and genuine concern for your visit. The pricing is fair and they always thoroughly explain why something needs to be addressed. And they follow up with a phone call to be sure youre happy and back on the road again. In a world where customer service often seems perfunctory at best, Northern delivers 100%!!
We have been going to Northern Auto Repair for years and always get great service, advice and detailed answers to all of our questions. The work is always topnotch and the extras - like the Car Care Club, newsletters, cookie and vacuuming - make the experience that much better. I really appreciate the Digital Inspection pictures and details that are sent to my phone prior to any work being done. This makes all of the work transparent and gives me peace of mind about the overall health of my van. I always highly recommend Northern Auto to everyone I know.
The pre-trip inspection is so thorough. Their responses are timely and easy to understand, as they send a report that rates each system they have checked. Definitely check them out if you are looking to have your vehicle inspected.
I have been taking my 2006 Scion to Northern Auto since I moved to this area in 2009. My goal has been to keep my car in good working order well over the 300,000 mile mark, and at nearly 170,000 miles, I am well on my way, thanks in large part to the excellent care my car receives at Northern. The services are prompt, reliable, and reasonably priced. Without a good mechanic, the maintenance of my car easily could have cost me thousands more. Most of all, I don’t worry about reliable transportation, as my car is taken care of. Plus, they are nice to my dog, Luna, who always enjoys her three-month visits to Northern.
Ive been bringing my car to Northern since moving to Berkley five years ago and have always received good service. I especially appreciated that the folks here were very willing to work with me on honoring a warranty for a part that failed and had to be replaced by another shop. At the other shop I felt as though they just wanted to get me out the door as quickly as possible, whereas Northern takes the time to address my concerns. Plus, as a special touch, they always leave a delicious cookie for you in your vehicle when you pick it up!
I called in advance to get my brakes replaced, and was told that they could have that done by the end of the day, that was @10 am I arrived at 11:30. The woman who I spoke with came out once she got the keys to my truck, and started taking pictures of my truck and informing me of an inspection they were going to perform on my truck. I told her that all I needed was the brakes to be replaced, and she told me that the inspection was necessary and would cost $69 . I asked if that would go towards the repairs when I got the brakes replaced and she said yes, but if I didnt get the work done I would have to pay the $69 inspection fee. So its noon when this happens, and she tells me it will be awhile before they can look at the truck & I reiterate that I just need the brakes replaced... 3:30 and Im told that the total bill is $1800.00 and I think to myself that they never intended to replace my brakes that day & if I did decide to get the work done who knows what or when I would have gotten my truck back. Never ever have I felt so scammed, $70 for nothing. The truck is a 2004 work truck and it wasnt even worth $1000, why an inspection, why the scam?I am going to tell everyone I can about this shady business practice, so disappointed
I took my car to Northern Auto Repairs for the first time about a month ago and will be going back for all of my future repairs! They were incredibly friendly and quick, and even provided my uber ride for me to get home during the repair. I also love that they wash the windshield, vacuum the front of the car, and leave a cookie on the passenger seat when your car is ready. Excellent quality and service! Ill definitely be going back!

Made a life long customer out of me! I have a Lincoln that was in some need for some front end work, I work at a Ford Dealership and our service department was to backed up to take me in so I did a quick search and found Northern. I was blown away by how quickly they were able to handle the amount of work that I needed done! The follow up through the entire process was FIRST CLASS! I will definitely recommend them to everyone that I know in need of any auto repairs! If your looking for your “guy” as far as repairs go look no further! The owners are so nice and take the extra step to make sure that you are happy with everything as well as the service writers! Cindy called and reminded me that I still had coupons left in the booklet I purchased last year. I needed back brakes and was able to use two of my coupons (for brakes and the towing cost) from my coupon book which saved me 80 bucks. During this pandemic it can be difficult to have work performed on your car. Some repair places have restricted the kinds of work they are performing. I like how Northern Auto is handling business during this time, and the touch less pick up was also appreciated.
The folks at Northern Auto Repair have provided the best service to keep my older car running smoothly for over two years now. Each required service is explained fully. I feel comfortable leaving my vehicle in their care and I definitely participate in the car care club. Their monthly newsletter is loaded with interesting, informational and light-hearted articles. Each visit is a pleasant experience.
I’m a retired automotive engineer and was impressed how thorough their inspection was. The repairs they recommended made an incredible difference in how smoothly and quietly the car rode. They also showed me all the old parts to verify they were worn out. It was a worry-free experience.
My go-to local shop for maintenance. Great service, very friendly, and once youre a customer, you feel like family... as much as thats possible with an auto shop :). They even quick-fixed a pesky rattle under the vehicle at no charge. Two thumbs up!
Im so grateful I discovered Northern Auto. They have consistently gone above and beyond to provide me and my car the highest level of service Ive ever experienced. There just isnt enough space for me to elaborate on all the ways they have made getting repairs completed easier. They explain in detail what needs to be done, and never talk down to me like so many other places have in the past. I will never take my car any place else. I cant recommend them highly enough!

I really appreciate the personal service and maintenance recommendations I get with every single visit here. The mechanics take the time to point out issues and give an honest opinion of the severity of scheduling services whether it be do it now, or an honest it can wait. There arent very many trustworthy and dependable independent mechanics around anymore, but I can really rely on this service to keep our older foreign and domestic cars on the road for as many years as possible. It feels like visiting family every single time!

Always welcoming, helpful, and trustworthy. I actually look forward to taking my car in because I know Ill always get my cup of coffee and freshly-baked cookie, friendly conversation, and top quality work done on my car. Theres a play area for kids and other nice amenities. Dont expect a 15-minute oil change - theyre not super speedy, but thats because theyre actually taking a good look at your car, and will only advise you on additional work when really necessary - they will never try to scare you into getting some BS magic fluid put into your car. Plus the membership club is super worth it!
I go to this repair shop frequently for maintenance and they always are friendly and accommodating. They know my history and my vehicle and I feel very safe with their expertise. They send texts and emails asking me how my car is doing, which is an appreciated touch of customer service.
I have never gotten such good customer service at any other auto shop. Everyone in the staff was friendly, including the owner. The work on my car was finished within the time frame the service manager had initially estimated. I will recommend Northern Auto Repairs to all my friends and family!
Northern Auto is great- something I NEVER thought Id say about an auto shop. Everyone Ive encountered has been incredibly friendly, and everything they do is completely transparent. Ive never felt like they were trying to take advantage of my lack of mechanical knowledge or that I was being upsold on an unneeded repair. On top of that, they genuinely try to make everything as painless as possible with perks like rides to and from the shop and texts about what exactly theyre doing. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.
I just had my car repaired for the first time at Northern Auto. The price for the repair was a bit higher than other shops/dealers had quoted me, but at the end of the day, Northern Auto fixed the car quickly, saved me $130, gave me a free oil change and passes for 3 more (car care program) and had great customer service. It is good to have found a place I can trust after a new move to Michigan.
Northern Auto fixed my air conditioning. Unfortunately for me it wasnt a simple recharge but they took good care of me and my car. Everyone there was a pleasure to work with and kept me updated along the way. They fixed my car within a day, I certainly was not expecting that with it being the middle of summer and their shop always being packed so that was a pleasant surprise. I certainly reccomend Northern Auto. They even called and invited me to their Woodward Dream Cruise party at the shop!
I was just in town for the day and they did an extremely thorough inspection of my vehicle- with an online report (including photos) detailing any issues. My estimate was very fair priced. I was impressed by this facility and they got me back on the road very quickly.
I called looking for a simple quote over the phone to have a part installed. CINDY insisted I bring the car into the shop for them to tell me ANY estimate on replacing a part.This was a simple neutral safety switch issue. The part needs to be taken out and replaced. Easy enough right?I was able to get quotes from 3 places but not from northern. It seems they really want you in the shop before quoting you so that they can win you business because they already have you car.Oh and by the way be ready to pay for a diagnostic prior to reserving any estimate as well.So to be clear, where I was able to get ball park estimates from other local places, northern requires a diagnostic at 57 bucks BEFORE they even provide a quote for how much the labor would be.Its a good selling strategy but a terrible customer service vision.Hard to compare apples to apples when you already paid 57 bucks, took time off work, and they have your car still. Makes not hard for busy people to get multiple quotes and forces me to skip them (northern) altogether for consideration.I hate leaving 1 stars without something nasty happening so ill give 2.If they decide to quote me over the phone for labor Id be happy to change it to a 4 star rating

Ladies never go here!!! These people are rude (woman who answers the phone), way too expensive and on top of that they made my car worse just by doing their inspection. Had them take a look at one of my windows because it wouldnt roll up. They charged me $138 just to tell me its broken which obviously I already knew. They said it would cost over $500 to fix and replace. Had another mechanic look at it and he also advised do not go back and the price that Northern wanted to charge me was absolutely ridiculous! When they put the door panel back on they broke the lock on that door. Do not trust them. Find another more honest mechanic to go to.
Northern Auto did an excellent, thorough inspection of my car and helped me resolve some issues I wasnt aware my car was even having! Two day turnaround as well. I will definitely return here in the future!
Wonderful service and honest advice. I came in with an AC issue and was update via phone twice before recommended work was done. There was another issue that was an expensive repair, and the mechanic was honest by telling me the issue wasnt an emergency or safety issue. Love this place, especially the homemade cookie they left in my car courtesy of a local bakery!
Called on Wednesday to schedule for an estimate and my Nissan was fixed Friday afternoon. Great crew at this shop and ai will definitely be using them in the future. Anthony and Scott were great.
Weve been Northern Auto clients for a couple of years now. We had gone to a dealership that told us about a bunch of extremely expensive work they told us that we had to have done on my wifes car, and since the car was driveable, we got a second opinion at Northern Auto. They ran their tests and determined that there was no leak in the head gasket, as the dealership had indicated. Aside from their diagnostic fee, (which I would never begrudge them,) there was no charge.That was 2 years ago, and Im writing this review as we go to pick up the same car from repairs Northern have done that cost less than the estimate. There is no question of the quality of workmanship or dependability. Highly recommended.
I made an appointment for 10:00 oclock for an oil change. I checked in at 9:55 and my vehicle was taken in at 10:15. Oil change and inspection took about an hour and a half, at which time I was invited to view what the inspection showed and an estimate for needed repairs. After my vehicle was spot cleaned and vacuumed, I was checked out. Everyone I came in contact with was very professional and considerate. If you are looking for a trustworthy garage to fill your vehicle needs, I would strongly recommend going to Northern Auto Repairs.
So want to recommend Northern Auto Repairs for their great service. We had a multi point check up on our car which included an oil change. Due to a defective filter there was an oil leak and Kamile was so helpful in correcting the problem. She picked up the car at our house, cleaned the oil spot in garage and driveway, had the car returned and cleaned and 2 cookies and coupons for our next visit. And there will be many more visits for us in the near future. So nice to have an auto repair shop give such caring service.
First, they make you pay a excessive fee for diagnostics $138.52, (that to my knowledge does not get credited to your service). However, they only ran diagnostic on one of the three problems I had (only the radiator not the blinkers or ignition). When I asked about the blinkers, they acted oblivious to the problem and said they would need to charge me for another diagnostics test. Their explanation was that they were going to need to test a lot of fuses to find the problem, but I thought that is why I was paying $138.52 in the first place. I saw the original paperwork (which is an excessive amount, by the way) that I submitted, and the blinkers were the first thing I wrote down. Also, after keeping my car for 5 days (including the weekend, so 3 business days), it turns out that their diagnostics on the radiator were wrong.They said my radiator as leaking and needed to be “removed and replaces”. Parts were going to be ~$300-400 for (Which I could get from AutoZone for about $150) and a few hundred (I think around 700) for labor. I called another mechanic from the parking lot that said they could do labor for about $200. I went to the other place and they laughed and said radiator was fine, it just needed a flush and a needed a new thermostat. Less than $300 out the door and the problem was fixed. (To make sure I was not jumping to conclusions about Northern Auto being wrong, it has been about 3 months and over 2000 miles since this happened and I have had no problems since)I understand mechanics might make a mistake, but that seems like a big one (>$1200 for parts, labor and diagnostics). Plus, I would have been right back there since the thermostat would have still been broken. Also, when I tried to get more information from the guy and lady at the front desk they were very rude and short with me (They had been very pleasant until I stated asking questions). The guy even started raising his voice when I asked why the diagnostic was not run on the blinkers.Typically, I give the mechanic the benefit of the doubt and assume they know more than me about cars, but from the beginning all the interactions I had here seemed fishy. I talked to some other friend and they had some bad stories (even legal issues) with this place. I recommend you go elsewhere. There are plenty of mechanics around.
Been going there for years. Perfect repair shop for women. They never tell you need lots of repairs when you dont. Rates are reasonable. Everyone there gives great service and you can actually talk to your mechanic and get tips on how to keep your car in tip top shape. The car care club is a real money saver. Thank you Northern!
Finally came here a few weeks ago after Ive driven past this place for so many years and Im very glad I tried them out. Extremely nice, fast service and you can tell that they care. They texted me my multi-point inspection with pictures of every part of the inspection and then called to go over the results, recommending what they thought the car needed and didnt need. Will definitely come back!

Been here twice now and the service is essentially impeccable. From calling to set an appointment, to drop off, to diagnosis, to pick-up - you are fully informed of things every step of the way. And who doesnt like a cookie waiting for them when you pick up your repaired vehicle?
I found Northern about a year ago . Since that time, I have stopped going to the Chevy and Jeep dealerships for service. Friendly service. Explanation of repairs great. Service done well. Cars returned clean and a with a cookie. I will never service my car at a dealership again.
Great customer service. Manager at the counter was very interested in learning about my car, the symptoms, and my driving behavior. I wasnt super happy with their electrical diagnosis as they worked on it for a day, then said they needed me to pay another $100+ to keep looking for the problem. Speaking with the manager, it didnt seem they had done a thorough job up to that point. It would have been nice if they had tested the battery, alternator, fuses and battery drain before they asked for more money. However, we ended up finding a solution that I was happy with. They have friendly staff that seem to care. Also, their newsletter is hilarious. I would recommend going there.
Northern Auto Repairs is a great shop. The prices arent low, but they seem fair and work is done in a speedy and organized fashion. Bills are detailed and the staff makes an effort to remember customers.
Ive been going to Northern Auto for a few years and theyve been great. My car is an oldie but goody, so Northern Auto and I work hard to keep up with oil changes, repairs, etc. I dont know much about cars, so its important for me to trust my mechanics so I dont feel like Im being ripped off, and I really feel like I can trust Northern Auto. When they recommend a repair to me, they really teach me about it. That makes me feel like I can make an enlightened decision about whether the repair fits my budget. They have a comfortable waiting room to sit and hangout while they fix your car up. On nice days, I walk the two minutes to Einsteins Bagels down the street because they have free refills on coffee and I like to see how many coffees I can crush before Northern Auto is done with my oil change. This morning I only had time to drink two coffees, and Im a fast coffee drinker, so that should tell you something about how quick Northern Auto is about routine things like oil changes. I really appreciate the folks that work there! Would recommend Northern Auto to anyone and everyone!
Everyone here is really fabulous and does a wonderful job!! I first brought my Moms car here on my last visit to Mom in February to find out why one of the headlights wasnt working. They got me in right away, despite their pretty full schedule, found the electrical problem and fixed it right up. SO, on this visit, when Moms new battery wasnt holding a charge, I knew exactly where to go to find the underlying issue. The electrical system was painstakingly checked by them item by item (it was A LOT of work) and after all that work checking, they found that it was a computer issue that could only be replaced and programmed by the dealer, so they referred me there. The amazing thing is, even after all that time and effort diagnosing the problem, they did not charge me for it, because they couldnt actually fix it (again, not their fault, only the dealer could do this computer replacement). They are obviously HIGHLY ETHICAL here and I was incredibly impressed. And, as a lovely bonus, they are really nice people, too!
I was a tough customer this week. I called on Thursday morning for an oil change, then I was 15 minutes late for my appointment. To top it all off, I was rushed and very tight on time, even rushing the nice gentleman cleaning the carpet and windows. But through all that everyone was great! They treated me with appreciation and respect. Cindy was accommodating when I called to say I was late. Scott took time to answer my questions on an unrelated problem; Anthony kept checking on my truck’s progress.I would hope my staff treat difficult patients as well as your team treated me. Great experience my first time there. I had an oil change and tire rotation. They drove me to my office, and called when the job was done. They texted me a digital inspection report too. When I got into the car after paying and was surprised by a cookie, the driver and passenger side were vacuumed, and there was a $5 off coupon towards my next visit. Very happy with my viait today, and will be back.
Great customer service and friendly well informed staff. Even though I ended up having to take my car to the dealership for programming issues, they tried all they could to solve my problem. I was dropped off at work and picked up. I came back to my car to find they had vacuumed and cleaned my window which was a welcomed surprise! I would definitely take my car back to Northern Auto for any issues I can resolve outside of the dealership (I have a VW so sometimes you cant avoid the dealership). The owners Kamile and John are very involved and follow up with their customers.
Quoted me double the price of other shops than tried to charge me double of what I initially signed off for to have the car looked at. Ended up leaving paying $70 for them to tell me I need a new blower motor which is pretty much what I told them when I dropped it off.They quoted me:$70 to look at it (tried to hit me at $140)$550 blower motor$650 tune up / new spark plugs
I live on the eastside. Called Northern about a punctured tire with a bent valve stem. They took me in without an appointment and had me back on the road the same day. Great service, and greatly appreciated!
First time using Northern auto and Im completely satisfied. My car wouldnt start unexpectedly. They diagnosed the problem promptly and emailed me a detailed explanation with pictures of the parts involved. Pricing is fair and the service was friendly across the board.
I took my Wrangler here after it was recommended to me by a friend, and Im so glad I did! Service was quick, they vacuum and wash the front windows after every service, and the pleasant conversation with the owners made it a very enjoyable visit. They came to my rescue but at a steep price,even though I sent them a thank you note.Ive waited a long time but they do read these posts and tried to repair my impression of their business. I can appreciate that effort. But we live in a biased society, and 1 person cant apologize for everyone else.Im grateful because it was the holiday weekend and the major stores werent gonna be bothered with my flat tire/low air issue. And, they were accommodating and left my car on their lot for me to pick up even after they were closed!!!I had to leave my car (and hope that they got around to it by the time I got off work), leave a credit card on file for the potential work they were gonna do ($52.08) AND had to call them (3 weeks later to find out why I was charged so much) for the tire plugs and air they put in my tire and ended up getting back about $20 (probably because I didnt blow-up at them).They have a huge If we dont ask, take this $2 bill sign, but they were not very welcoming or pleasant but then... they are car guys.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They had my car finished in a timely matter. I would definitely use them again. Oh and they leave a thank you cookie for you in your car, which I think is a nice touch.
I thought I had an issue with my vehicle, so I took it to Northern auto repair. They got back to me fairly quickly, and told me they didnt see any problems.I asked a worker to take a drive with me to double check. He did that, *and* took a drive in another vehicle to use as a reference.It seems my car is fine. Now I just need to get myself to a psychiatrist to make sure the same can be said for me, since I seem to be finding problems where none exist.I appreciate the service.

We love coming here to see Kamile at the front desk and LuLu (the fish). They offer top notch service and great cookies while you wait! Horrible experience. They really dont deserve any stars. I went there to get my air conditioning unit fixed. It is still hot in my car and they would not refund me my money. The owner offered me $320 discount off the horrible service I recieved when I paid them $2600. To fix my car. It is still not fixed. I am out of money and no satisfaction of a working air conditioning unit in my car this summer. DO NOT GO THERE!
This is one of the best places I have been to for my car.. Very professional, and very personable at the same time. The mechanics are clean and dont mind taking time to talk to me and show me on my vehicle what is wrong. They also were able to send pictures to my Iphone of the parts that need to be replaced. Very cool.. The price was a little higher, but I believe that you get what you pay for in Auto Repair and Mike assured me that they have a 2yr 24000 mile wrnty on most repairs INCLUDING labor. (unheard of) . And I cant speak for others, but I rely heavily on my vehicle for my job and my kids. Thanks to Mike and Scott for helping me with my car. I will be back. Thanks for vacuuming and cleaning my windows, and leaving the cookie.

Walked in without an appointment and was ready to pay a couple of hundred for a schedualed repair. Just wanted a quote. They took it for a drive them put it on the hoist and found a loose screw. They took it for a ride again just to make sure it was all that was wrong. They fixed it while I waited.I am a happy customer who will return.
I have been in the Auto Care industry for almost 15 years and have visited hundreds of shops and interacted with hundreds of shop owners and employees. I can say with much confidence that it would be hard to find a shop that is more professional than Northern Repairs. This team spends countless hours in developing clever marketing campaigns and they only employ certified ASE mechanics. You can tell that they care by looking at how they reply to nearly every single review. Further, I think its horrible that these sites allow someone to write a bad review just because they feel like it. I mean, there are many vindictive people out there, and no one wants to spend money on their vehicle so to many times shops receive a low review without deserving it.Further, please know that shops have huge expenses in repairing vehicles, and its unfortunate that they should have to check any ones vehicle out for free, but it has become second nature for people to expect this.
Ill keep this review as detailed as possible and get straight to the point. My experience with Northern was fairly positive. I went to Northern Auto Repair the day after Labor Day for brake work on my vehicle. They had compiled a list of mechanical errors on my car following their initial vehicle inspection ($34 for an inspection irrespective of if you decide to follow through with their recommended repairs). They recommended that I get the back brakes done since I just wanted to get my car to a point where I could drive again. At which point, I would determine if whether or not Id like to come back to continue the remaining work. The quote for their service for my vehicle (labor, hardware kit, tools, brake fluid, inspection, Hertz rental car) was approximately $773. Similar to previous reviews they are on the expensive side but the quality of their work is good. This was my first go around for fixing brakes however, I do feel that I paid a bit much. Nevertheless, Ill be able to make a more informed decision regarding the remainder of the work that is needed the next time around. According to Northern, they have a relationship with Hertz car rental service in Ferndale, MI. I knew I wouldve needed to rent a car seeing as though this specific repair had taken up the remainder of that day. The other thing that I disliked was their lack of communication pertaining to when my car would be completed. Northern closes at 7:00 p.m. and seeing as though no one had called me (although they stated they would) by 6 p.m. I decided to take the initiative and get in contact with them myself. I spoke with the rep (the older male) who then informed me that my car wouldnt be available until the next day but, this wasnt communicated earlier. Following our brief conversation he called back informing me that the technicians went out to test drive my vehicle and that I could pick it up. The problem with this was that by the time I was informed of this it was already 6:40 p.m. Allocating only 15-20 mins to get to the shop before they closed. Northern will need to communicate more effectively with their customers while keeping them abreast on the lifecycle of the project during the day.
Anthony did a great job in a timely manner. If you are looking for a place that will charge you fairly and not make you wait 2 to 3 days for a fix this is the spot. They even clean your car and leave you a cookie!
A while back I was referred to Northern Auto Repair by a friend and today I also refer my friends. NAR provides clear upfront repair requirements and fair pricing. Of the many repairs on my three 2002 vehicles I have only had to return two times for followup work and it was covered at no charge. As a local busyness owner myself I am impressed with NAR.
The staff at Northern is polite and knowledgeable. They delivered top notch customer service estimate was done within a few hours and sent via text. The repairs were done when promised. I was picked up at my job by one of the techs.

Everything was excellent! I took my car there in the morning and it was fixed later in the afternoon. Thier staff is really amazing and they are willing to work with you. The cookie they left for me in my front seat was delicious. I will be returning for future repairs.
Great place. I have been coming here for a year now, and I like that they send you pictures before they work. Went in today thinking my brakes needed to be replaced, they told me the brakes were fine and it was just the lubricant. Really nice, and always does a fantastic job.
Friendly staff. Used them before to get my brakes and rotors replaced. Today stopped by for an oil change, they had recommendations for car maintenance but were not pushy about it one bit. Will be stopping by again in the future for auto-related issues.
With so many options to get your car serviced, its the little details that matter. I brought my older car in to address a mystery rattling sound coming from underneath. Before they fixed it, they texted me a full inspection with photos showing what the problem was. Once it was fixed, I picked it up to find that they had vacuumed the front seats and carpets and left me a chocolate chip cookie. The extra 10 minutes that was spent on that little detail will make me a repeat customer.
Called because I had a flat tire and they said to come right over. They were friendly and fixed the tire in 15 minutes for a very reasonable fee. I felt they are very customer oriented and honest. Highly recommend

Talk about making a favorable first impression! DanSecond visit. Engine overheating. Diagnostic fee waived. Tech did a pressure test on cooling system and topped off coolant for no charge. What makes Northern Auto stand out is their combination of knowlege and integrity. Ive been coming here for service on my cars for over 10 yrs and have always received aDiagnosis of the problem, an estimate and the work perfromed as stated. If nothing needs to be done one is told that too. Prompt, courteous service, rides home if needed and great coffee while you wait. A fresh cookie along with washed windows and carpet vacuumed. Its the real deal!
I took a used car in for inspection before purchasing. For under $100 they did a full inspection and provided me with a digital inspection report that outlined every part of the car in green yellow or red and included recommendations. 10/10 would recommend the used car inspection service!
Car broke down on a Monday before work they got me in right away and gave me answers that day!! I got my car the very next day. They had absolutely amazing service, staff is so nice. This will be the only place I take my cars now that I’m in Michigan 👍🏼

We have used Northern Auto Repairs on 3 different occasions and have found them to be honest and good mechanics. They do not push for things that are not necessary. Prices are reasonable.
I had an appointment to get my air conditioner fixed and they informed me that it would cost me $155.00 I agreed to have it fixed, ten minutes later they told me I had a leak so the price was now going to be $859.00 to repair it I asked why wasnt I informed about the leak before I was given a price, he said thats how they do it. so l said I was not able to get it fixed now, and how much did I owe them, so he said we can take the freon out and you will have to pay $50.21, I thought this is BAD business thats not a way to get a return customer. I will not recommend them to NO ONE... nor will I ever come back again, all I can say is BEWARE OF NORTHERN AUTO REPAIRS, THIS IS A REAL REVIEW FROM 6-22-17 11:06am. Northern Auto is a complete rip off. They charged me $210.00 just to look at my car. They also wanted to charge me $240.00 to replace a power steering hose on my Jeep Cherokee. The part is only $19.00 and can be installed in about 5 minutes. Do not take your car here. I dont care what Angies list says, they are a SCAM.

Very good service. I have taken my car in twice with a fair amount of work both times. In both of these times the service was completed promptly and at a great rate.
The whole experience was wonderful, they were professional, kind and explained everything. The price was clearly explained witha line by line estimate. They sent me pictures and a video of what was wrong and what was ended. I will be back.

Stopped in to see if they would flush the cooling system on my car. I was told they dont work on OLD cars. Well ? If i had a new car it wouldnt need work. I suppose they dont want to work on dirty old cars. Too bad they lost my business, and all the years of telling people to go there.FYI my dad worked there years back and if he was still there this wouldnt have happen. FYI again the car was a 1984 Fleetwood in mint condition.

2022-03-06The experience was stellar! Rodney was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and the consummate professional. I’m a new business owner and would love a manager of Rodney’s quality. He was kind, funny, smart and got me to come back two days later (even though I wanted an oil change the same day). But because of Rodney’s professionalism, I decided not to go searching for another “quick lube” (same day) oil change shop. I chose to wait, make an appointment — and return — to spend my money with a place that earned it with a clean, user-friendly business — and a pro like Rodney up front. He also made suggestions for other shops to perform a few services Northern Auto doesn’t provide. Great touch! I’ll definitely be going back even though their shop is NO WHERE NEAR my house.

His demeanor and professionalism assured me from the minute I walked in that I was in the right spot.I dropped off my car at 8:00am (when they open) and had received word about my diagnostic by 8:45am. 2022-01-11Highly recommend. Brought my car here for an oil change and a check engine light diagnosis. The whole staff was friendly and helpful and kept in contact with me about the status of my car. When they discovered what my cars problem was they let me know that it was a covered repair under an EPA Design and Defect Warranty. I have to take the car to a dealership but I shouldnt have to pay for the repair. I was impressed and thankful for their honesty and for the information. Will definitely be taking my car here from now on.

Rodney took the time to go over everything in depth and answer all my questions. I also love the texting feature, it keeps you up to date and informed on the status of your vehicle. 2022-03-01My tire kept losing air. Rodney made sure to get me in to diagnose the problem right away, even without an appointment. He had them fix it quickly and sent me on my way. I appreciated the kindness shown at this business. Rodney was so kind that I scheduled my next oil change while waiting for my tire repair.
