Comment: First visit to the Ocean Palms, very clean, our suite was spacious and well appointed and theyre dog friendly. The Tikis carved into the palm trunks were a whimsical touch. The bonus is that you are across a not so busy street and at the center of the Western side of Carlsbad Village with all its great restaurants and shops!

Literally & actually, across the street from the beach (not blocks away from a beach access!) with useful amenities (beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards). This resort has truly everything it promises & more!!! I have only one hesitation on recommending it or even staying again - we try to visit a couple of times a year, but with our son being in the military, we never know if we would have last-minute cancelations or rescheduling issues. Resort says no cancelation policy/refunds? 😕

Comment: This is our 4th time back over the last several years and we absolutely love it here. The rooms are updated and clean, it’s just steps away from the beach, and the staff is so friendly. We really appreciated help from Beau at the front desk. He was so helpful to recommendations for lunch and dinner, that turned out to be delicious, and he was so nice to our kiddos. They have beach/pool towels that you can check out along with umbrellas and boogie boards. Complimentary grab-and-go style breakfast, Starbucks coffee and juices were a hit everyday. We will definitely be back!

Comment: 🌴Ocean Palms Beach Resort gets 5 Stars from the Arnold Team in 🌞 Yuma, AZ. We were thrilled with the cute bungalow. My 2 teenage boys and I were comfortable. The Pull-out couch and King bed gave us plenty of space. I would say the beds could have been more comfy, but nothing compares to my bed, so that isnt a fair assessment. Chill color scheme, and I appreciated the craftsman that installed the crown molding. I enjoyed meditating on the perfect lines and listening to the frog in the courtyard as I wound down for the night. Front desk service was terrific; we arrived after 11 pm, and security had our keys ready. In the morning, we popped in for the official check-in. If you are a breakfast person, breakfast is snacky and might not be what you love. The juice selection is great, though. If you enjoy Mimosas in the morning, grab a bottle of 🍾Champagne at Big Pig Liquor store around the corner and chill it in the fridge; enjoy it as a Mimosa with the Pineapple 🍍 Juice or OJ🍊 from the complimentary breakfast. 🍹The Fantastic location is within walking distance of everything! Parking was ample, and we didnt need to drive anywhere.

Comment: The beds were not comfortable at all. We had a queen and a pull out couch. I would not expect the pull out couch to be comfortable but I would never have expected it to be as bad as it was. It looked like a hammock. My poor kids had to sleep on it for 2 nights. The main bed was also terrible, busted springs from over use. I was unable to sleep the first night and asked the front desk if there was any alternatives. He looked into various options and ultimately called his manager who offered to comp the first night. I thought that was very generous (but truly all I was looking for was good sleep). I waited for the refund to come through and had to follow up. They told me it would be processed 3-5 days and the manager would call if there was any question. The front desk then called me a few days later and told me I would not be getting a refund because they intended on giving me the refund only if I check out - which was not originally communicated that way. I get there can be misunderstandings but this whole thing was a disaster. The place was beautiful but not at the price of a bad back!! I was very disappointed on how the whole interaction and follow up, I cannot recommend this place. There are many other places in the areas which have better guest services.Also note, there is no luggage storage. We wanted to hit the beach after checkout but was told they could not store luggage so we had to drag everything to the beach.

Comment: Our Girl Scout troop decided to celebrate the end of the service year and cookie sales at Ocean Palma and the experience was amazing. The hotel has great location, just steps from the ocean and just a short walk to Carlsbad Village. The rooms are well kept and had all that we needed. The entire staff from the hotel was super friendly and helpful at all times. It is super convenient that they provide everything you need for the beach and all the equipment is in good shape. Our girls are already planning our next visit! We 100% recommend this hotel.

Comment: An enjoyable stay. The rooms are clean and well appointed and convenient to Carlsbad Village and beach access directly across the street. The desk staff are friendly and the grounds are well maintained with lush foliage, a pool and fire pits.Breakfast included yogurt, juice, fruit and packaged bake goods. Coffee and tea are available all day. The kitchen has the basics but would have enjoyed wineglasses instead of having to use plastic tumblers or coffee cups. Definitely would stay here again should I visit the area in the future.

The staff was friendly, and the guests were peacul. The fire pits were a nice way to end the day, texting my friends about my day. The hotel is older but freshly updated in every respect. Its so close to everything from beach to downtown that my rental car just sat there parked my entire stay.

Comment: This place is amazing. Roger and Beau from the front office were so friendly and helpful. We flew in very early and Roger helped us get early check in. He also helped me with getting and printing out my boarding passes. Beau was very helpful in checking us out. The whole staff was wonderful. The rooms were very clean. The traveler’s suite was perfect for me and my husband. My only complaint was the screaming kid in the room next to us but it was only one night.Loved being able to walk across the street to the beach and walk to restaurants and Starbucks. Can’t wait to go back next Sept.

Comment: Amazing resort with beautiful grounds. It’s across from the beach and the staff provide complimentary towels, chairs, beach toys, and body boards so no need to pack extra. The 1 bedroom Lanai Suite was spacious and clean. It came with a full kitchen and was quite private. The heated pool area has plenty of lounge chairs and there’s plenty of bbq pits on the premises (staff has bbq utensils). The best part is there’s no need to drive anywhere once you arrive, everything is within walking distance. We are already planning our next trip!

Not to be cliché, but the above-and-beyond customer service provided by Beau and Ruger truly made us feel like family during our short stay. The love and attention put into every detail of the hotel grounds and the rooms reflects the owner’s dedication and passion to his business, from the tiki heads carved into the palm trees within the common grounds to the one-of-a-kind mural of a Hawaii beach painted onto the wall above our bed.And the showers. Oh my gosh the showers. This hotel has BY FAR the best water pressure of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at, by miles. But when your suite has a shower the size of a walk-in closet, one shower head isn’t enough. No, after a long day at the beach, you deserve to be blasted with warm, cleansing water from THREE independent showerheads! I never thought I’d have a life-changing experience from a hotel shower, but here I am telling you that you owe it to yourself to experience it. Apparently the larger suites have SIX showerheads, so add one to the bucket list. Not a shower person? Take a dip in the adjacent jacuzzi, it only takes like two minutes to fill up (and sounds like you’re standing next to a waterfall) because Ocean Palms Beach Resort has harnessed the power of Poseidon himself to pressurize the water.On top of all that, the hotel has everything you need for a relaxing day at the beach ready to check out, including beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and more. This is great, because you’re probably going to spending a decent amount of time at the gorgeous stretch of beach conveniently located about 150 steps away from the hotel lobby. At night, relax next to a series of firepits lit within the outdoor common area and relax before going out and enjoying the Carlsbad nightlife.Thank you Beau, Ruger, and the entire Ocean Palms Beach Resort staff for making my wife’s and I weekend getaway truly special and something we will remember forever.

Comment: We were a family sharing a 2bdrm unit. Loved the tropical vibe. Enjoyed the comfortable relaxed atmosphere, beachy furnishings and decor. The place was fully equipped. Hung out on the front porch and enjoyed proximity to the ocean. Parking can be tricky but you can move your car as people leave and good spaces become available. Within easy walking distance of everything downtown, so once youre in a good parking spot theres no need to drive!

Comment: UPDATE Below- We haven’t even started our trip and they’ve already made it a negative situation for myself and my 100% disabled veteran husband. We made our reservation on line for a 4 night stay. We were notified that although we have 4 night confirmed reservation, they are making us change rooms 3 times during the 4 day stay. We will have to move twice after checking in! We were told they had upgraded rooms available and rather comping those rooms because of our inconvenience, they suggested we pay an additional $500 for those rooms. The website implies they have discounts with AARP and AAA that we qualify for and they wouldn’t honor them. When we asked for a simple discount for our inconvenience the request was denied. We asked how this could have happened and twice the rep said ‘computers don’t know which rooms’ are available computer only know that their property has an open room for that date. We are completely willing to cancel the reservation but they have a no refund policy.UPDATE- After arriving we found the staff was able to make some changes so we were able to stay the entire 4 nights in the room we reserved. The staff was very accommodating. The location is perfect for beach and town. We never moved our vehicle the whole week. The Deluxe King Suite is roomy. Ok for 2 people. Furniture not very comfortable but the bed was. Adding a microwave oven to the kitchen would be good.

Comment: My husband & I stayed at Ocean Palms Resort to celebrate our anniversary weekend! We had such a wonderful time. Our room was very clean & tastefully designed. We had a full kitchen with granite counter tops, a small dining area, a couch, & a king-sized bed with a view of the ocean. The hotel staff members were all kind & courteous. The fire pits were a nice amenity along with the hot tub & pool & there was plenty of outdoor seating. It was such a peaceful stay & only steps from the beach. If I were to make any critiques, it would be about the lack of parking, but that is typical in all areas near the beach. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay & we hope to return with our children someday.

I loved everything about Ocean Palms Beach! The suite has a cute kitchen set up and a amazing bathroom. The shower area is breathtaking! Its an open shower without any curtain or sliding door and has a granite showering bench large enough for two. The kitchen was a bit on the smaller side but everything worked excellence... oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. Providing cups, utensils, and dishes was useful and a plus for me. The sofa in the living room can be pulled out for extra bedding if needed. The bedrooms are perfect with a TV in each room. It had enough pillows and the comforters were warm and comfortable. What I love most is the outdoor setting! It has a Hawaii vibe and scenery! The plants, giant flower pots, palm trees, tikis, furnitures, pools, fireplace, etc! Its a great place and experience. What amazes me is that the beach and restaurants were all in walking distance! Under 5 minutes wherever you wanted to go. It was perfect and it was beautiful, I will never forget! I hope and pray to be back soon. Its now one of my favorite place to be. Zero regrets! Loved it!

We’ve loved it with two little kids because of the location (walk to beach and all shops, restaurants and train station), always a parking spot available, and the full kitchen. Not to mention the entire property and rooms feel very well cleaned and maintained. This last stay we had some very noisy neighbors upstairs and we (and our little ones) were awake ALL night. The manager just called ME to comp our night...I didn’t need to ask for it or argue, they just did the right thing voluntarily. So refreshing. Great service. We will be back!

Grounds are kept immaculate as is the pool and all the tables have umbrellas for outside dining, gas grills available, fire pits and all in a Hawaiian setting with countless palm trees. Rooms are spotless, plenty of cooking utensils, great beds and all rooms have beach themed decors. Staff is tremendous, owners are always available, housekeeping staff have many long term employees, I see the same people each year. Location couldn’t be any better, steps from the beach, in the heart of Carlsbad village, walking distance to dozens of restaurants . Beach chairs, umbrellas, toys and towels are all there for guest use . Grab and go juice, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit and Starbucks coffee in the morning is available, along with housekeeping if needed . Housekeeping ask guests in morning if service is needed with the coved situation

Was looking forward to staying for some R&R with husband booked two days and couldnt cancel upon arriving - kids running up and down the hallway, etc on the 2nd level and more. Sit on edge of bed the upper part raises from the ground, shower doors were dirty - jacuzzi tub fits one person. Brought concerns up upon leaving at 7:15 am in the morning about noise - since we didnt get any sleep the night prior due to neighbors and no help after 11:00 pm - only response was we will let the occupant know there was a complaint. Before I booked my room, I e-mailed the hotel to ask about cleaning products and laundry soap, which I have to do wherever I stay when I travel because I have some environmental sensitivity to scented products. I was happy to receive a response that they use EcoLab soap -a product I know to be unscented, or lightly and naturally scented - no problem, I can do that. Unfortunately, the room I booked was moldy - a strong smell of mold, not just slightly mildewed. The only option for a less smelly room was an upgrade in price. Thats really unfortunate when a room is needing repair or renovation because of mold that a guest has to pay more to sleep in a healthier room. The place is in a good location and is nicely appointed, nice tiling in bathroom and kitchenette area but when a company remodels those rooms, they should also take care of whatever is causing the moisture problem and mold. After I wrote this, the manager contacted me and offered to refund the extra cost of upgrading to a room that did not smell so much of mold, so I am happy for the considerate response. Changing my review to 4 stars.

When we found this place we decided we would pay a lot more for the accessibility. Little did we know it would turn into a NIGHTMARE! There was construction and a porta-potty right outside our room, there was construction every morning, and our beach view was blocked by a crane, a dump truck, and a chain link fence. The beach access stairway was under construction so we had to walk blocks down the road to get to the beach. While I understand that is out of the hotels control, it would be nice if they let people know there was something going on so it wouldnt affect our trip. That was just the start of the down slide of our trip there.The staff was unhelpful, rude, annoyed at having to deal with their customers, and unprofessional. Any time we had to deal with them it was like we were a nuisance and wed either get a huff and puff or a roll of the eyes.Like other posts talk about, everything is nickeled-and-dimed; you want a mint, itll cost ya! Everything there is pricey. Furniture and paint are chipped, cracked, squeaky, wobbly, etc. Parking, good luck finding a spot for guests. We love Carlsbad but the area right around there is a tourist trap (tacky and shady businesses just like this one). Breakfast and snacks/ coffee are the cheapest they can get and not taken care of. The walls were paper thin and we could hear nearly every word of anyone walking by or in the rooms next door.We would not recommend this place. Seems like theyre in it for the money not the hospitality.

Single pane windows facing the street allowed a lot of noise through, including the passenger train that runs through the middle of town pretty frequently, just a couple blocks away. The rooms are very vibrant, quiet, peacful, and everything you need is provided. I love the location, for across the street is the calming ocean. Comment: THE PLACE TO STAY IN CARLSBAD! The staff is awesome! Very friendly and helpful. Jose is the man! Room was comfy and clean. Great coffee in the morning and warm gooey chocolate chip cookies in the evening. Just steps from watching that classic California sunset every evening. Walk to all the best restaurants in Carlsbad...Las Olas for Margheritas, great pizza at Knockout or Pizza Port. Take out your dinner, bring it back to the resort, and eat with the fam at the firepits. Coming back here every visit!

Comment: My fiancé and I stayed there for a romantic getaway. It was the perfect place to get away from the busy city and enjoy a quiet beach town. We stayed in the Lenai suite, which felt like we were on a island getaway with all the palm trees and Tropical themed landscaping. Its a few stair steps away from the beach and walking distance to lots of nice restaurants and nightlife that Carlsbad has to offer. We will definitely be returning soon!

Comment: Rooms are very homy, they have beach access that is about a minute walking distance from the hotel. Hottub, pool, weght room, and continental breakfast all included. Their rooms also have a King sized bed, and a sofa bed included, with a fridge, oven and microwave. Theres free coffee in the lobby 24/7 and a guest pantry you can purchase snacks from.

Comment: The Unit was big enough for the two of us & our two large dogs. The view from the living room was outstanding, only paled by the view from the balcony!!The Unit was a bit outdated, but clean! I pulled in my gravity chair to sit on, only the futon/pull out couch to sit in.We will definitely work with McLain Propertys again & plan on making more trips to Carlsbad! Dorothy was very helpful every step 😄

Comment: The front desk staff was genuine and incredibly helpful. Jose gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and made sure we knew how to get there. There are many complimentary services like beach chairs, towels, and boogie boards. There is a light healthy breakfast and the pool and hot tub make a great experience. Less than a block away from the beach! The grounds are beautiful, all around a great stay!

Comment: The entire place made me feel like Im really on vacation. The hot tub and the pool area is very nice. The fire pits at night = great hangout! The staff is so chill (hey this IS surfing territory!). Close to everything (our LYFT rides are all under $10 to Flower Fields, malls, the lagoon...) and walking distance to great restaurants, bus/train stations, and of course THE BEACH! Coffee and snacks available 24-7, and breakfast of toasted bagels, juices, yogurts etc all free. I can go on and on and I cant recommend this place enough!

Comment: Stayed here twice. First time we spent about $15,000 for my family travelling from uk to stay for a wedding and they basically got everything completely wrong. Staff rude and unhelpful.Second time stayed 2 weeks paid approx $3000 cycle was stolen asked throughout the stay for late checkout to be told on last day they couldnt help.Dont bother with this lot they are completely unaware of customer service or loyalty. A complete waste of money

Comment: Great location with easy beach access. Close to Carlsbad Village. The landscaping is beautiful and tropical. Nice pool area and common areas with fire pits for lounging. Our 1 bedroom room was clean and mostly well-maintained with a nice kitchenette. A simple breakfast was available in the morning, as were towels, chairs, and umbrellas for use at the beach. We stayed on a Saturday night, and the noise from the traffic and nearby train tracks was a little loud until around 11 PM or so. Might be an issue for light sleepers.

Comment: Booking Nightmare! Made reservation with 4 months in advance with a 3rd party site, then called to request a certain room, and told I had to pay in full now to lock the reservation in even after the site said the payment was due at check in. So I did, and got a confirmation from the requested ocean view, and noticed they changed the reservation to a no cancellation reservation. I called to question this, and they OKd with the hotel manager that I would be able to cancel or change dates on the reservation (said it was added in the notes on the reservation). I ended up needing to cancel the reservation due to work, and was still 2 months out from the actual reservation, but was told I could not cancel again, and needed to call the manager. I call multiple times to try to talk to the manager, but was never connected. A guy finally answered when I called, and bluntly told me I had to call 3rd party site to cancel and basically hung up on me. After calling the site, reservation was cancelled.I will never stay here or recommend this place. There are far better resorts that have professional management and do not try to force you into staying. They lack serious leadership for such a small resort.

Comment: The owner is a sleazeball, he charged me $200 without my consent for spilled coffee (which they provided in the room) and when my CC successfully made a chargeback, he sent it to collections. He has a history of shady business practices, and the resort is more like a transformed Motel. Parking has 6 spaces, and there is NO VIEW to the beach. Spend $20 more and stay next door at the beautiful hotel.

Comment: In a nutshell: RIP OFF and Unscrupulous!!As the person in my family charged with organizing family reunions, I looked into this place as a possibility for our next summer reunion. Since Im from Carlsbad, Id driven past this place and thought looks cute, good location, looked on line at their rooms and thought PERFECT! Decided wed give this place a trial run over Thanksgiving with a mini-reunion.... so, I booked a room online for the third weekend of November thinking that was the weekend of Thanksgiving. My credit card was charged the full amount immediately [??!!]. Thought this was extremely odd, but didnt really care since I intended to stay there, so whatever... I thought. One of my relatives quickly informed me that TDay was actually the LAST Thursday!Not knowing how to correct my error on line, I phoned and spoke with the front desk. told him my error and made inquiries as to costs for pets, discounts, etc. and called it a day. I sent an email out to my relatives who then called and booked rooms.Cut to the 3rd Thursday of November... I got a call around 11:30 pm asking if I was going to check in. The guy was nice and I told the him that I was part of a group checking in the following week. He said hed check with the owner and get back to me. In the next couple of days I got a call that the owner would let me move my reservation, but Id have to pay for an upgraded room since my level of room was sold out. I was a bit miffed since Id corralled the rest of my relatives into staying there, and totally overwhelmed with the details of putting together a TDay for 30 people.The owner called me to repeat his offer [which was about $100 more on top of what Id already paid] and I told him that given that Ive got accommodations at my moms house I didnt want to spend $200 more. He repeated his offer several more times as if presenting new options. He refused to give me my money back and told me Ill have a credit! Never heard of something so asinine given that the weekend Id technically booked wasnt Thanksgiving nor was it peak season.On a side note, the feedback I got from relatives was that most the rooms were pretty crappy and that they didnt even have blow dryers in the room, but offer to sell them to you in the lobby!

Comment: My job, when not on vacation is a mystery shopper. I have been doing this job for over 10 years.I tend to rate everything by habit when I stay somewhere, such as the service, room condition, property amenities and the property over all. If I was to have to rate this property based on these things that are important to me, I would have given a grade of 100.The employees went out of their way to help me and answer any of my questions. I did not experience anyone being rude or unhappy during the visit. Even the gardeners greeted me when I passed them. The men that were remodeling one of the units were friendly and asked how my stay was. The property was well maintained and the amenities were up to standards. The room I stayed in was nice and cozy. It reminded me of a bungalow on the beach. Sitting on the porch, listening to the wave and talking to people passing by were very nice.I would recommend this property and my hat is off to the staff for making my stay pleasant. Thanks so much for being the property you advertise you are. That’s hard to find nowadays.

Comment: This resort is fantastic. We definitely give them 5 out of 5. I think the one item would recommend to you to perhaps examine is the mattress in room 116. I know everybody has different preferences when it comes to mattresses but I think you may want to double check on that mattress as it was a tad uncomfortable. Hard to satisfy everybody on this subject I imagine. Thank you again for an exceptional stay in Carlsbad, we will be back.

Just today I parked in front of their hotel zoned for public parking and they left this note on my car...Hello, Just wanted to let you know that parking in our registration is for guests checking in only. Comment: We checked in to find our hotel room was right from the 70s. Wobbily table, old gas stove, shower that was so gross and the door was so small and the carpet...yuck! I was seriously angry and wanted to move to a different room or hotel. I was able to upgrade to a new room, but at my own expense $130 more! This made me kind of upset and I had to cut something else from our vacation. The new room was very nice, great bed, kitchen. The TV remote didnt work and refrigerator smelled like rotten fish. It did have a nice view of the ocean. It also was not very quiet, being that there are tables a pool and fire pits in the center of the hotel people stay up very late talking. On the bright side, it was really close to the beach and great restaurants, the two guys in the front office were very nice, the pool was nice and my kiddo had fun playing golf on the green. I gave it 3 stars and would consider staying again in the future. Make sure you ask for a renovated room.

Comment: Lovely place! Very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. I stayed in a one bedroom deluxe unit and had a very comfortable stay. The Beds are super comfy with lots of pillows. The place was updated, clean, and quiet. I loved that it was so close to the beach yet just a short walk to shops. I enjoyed it immensely and will be back again. Carlsbad by the Sea is the place to be!

Comment: I will never stay at this run down slum or ever recommend anyone to stay at this place in my life. Not only was it dirty and had many broken objects like the windows that cant close broken tiles with dirty pee stained walls it had an odor you cant get past. I tried to speak with the management about them charging $200$ a night for such a room they told me there was nothing they would do for me and to have a nice day. I tried to give my children a nice vacation at the beach this slum of a motel ruined the vacation.

Comment: I had such a great time at Ocean Palms Resort. The rooms were newly redone and looked pretty nice. They seemed a good size. We were there in March during some construction which was not great. The crew only worked 6 hours per day though. It would also be nice if they had beach chairs and toys for guests.Overall, our experience was very good and we will return in the future.
