Over priced! Selling clothes that are priced higher or the same as brand new. Also a Terrible experience with returns. The return policy is not for you but for their benefit. Customers are always wrong here. Also selling anything to them is a joke. Left the store with never returning in mind. Don’t buy anything here unless you’re 100% sure you want it. Canton treats you so much better!!!
Im kind of obsessed with this place. I rarely buy clothes for my kids anywhere else. So many items, pretty much anything you could need for babies and kids, and at great prices. Plus eco- friendly to reuse. I go here at the start of each season to stock up on the next size up of clothes for my kids, plus toys for presents, and lots more. Great points system for frequent customers. And I love bringing toys and books that were done with to sell to them for store credit.
They offer ppl who sell to them the worst prices on their belongings. If anyone reading this has stuff especially strollers and swings y’all need to get rid of. Wash it, and post it in Mercari. You get a way better deal doing it that way. Even in a garage sale, you can sell your stuff for more. This company is bull. They turn around and resell your stuff for triple the money and claim that they don’t offer more because they are consignment and people won’t pay much for it. They profit off your stuff you paid hard earned money for. You will get top dollar for your used items posting on marketplace Facebook, Mercari, etc. They say they pay cash but they pay cheap. Your value is more and everyone needs to know that.
Terrible. Just horrible. I tried to sell a ton of clothing they were looking for- in season sweaters, jackets, long sleeved shirts. In good condition. They took hardly anything. The customer service sucks at this store. Avoid avoid avoid!!!!!Edit: this was the Ann Arbor location. I knew to come right when they opened, only 2 bins, cleaned clothing. I had two hampers FULL of baby clothing- various seasons and sizes. They took like 5 total pieces and offered me $14. What a joke.
, this place is soooo overpriced. No way I will paying some of those ridiculous prices. Woah. Very expensive way more then the stores. Someone is crazy to mark up those prices like that. And their used with stains. No thanks. Whom ever coming here stop save your money. I can get more stuff at Tj max name brand. They prices is ridiculous . Hope they change their price otherwise I’m never coming back period. Took my cousin from Texas she wanted to leave soon as she came in. How do they make money? It’s really people buying junk for those prices. Wow.
Great selection...just changed my review from 5 years ago to drop a star... would love the staff here to take a Zing Train training on customer service!! 10 minutes to closing, 5 staff (plus) and three registers but only two ladies on the register...seems stocking and organizing is more important than taking care of the paying customers! When I inquired about opening the third, there was no attempt to eliminate wait time... definitely a lesson in patience! And I was told theres often a much longer line!
This store is awesome. Staff is super kind and shopping is easy thanks to the way the store is organized. Prices are fair and items are usually well cared to use. Great sales, worth to follow them on Facebook. I appreciate all the effort they have done to make their system to work smoothly for sellers!
Edited! I have had no problems with the Ann Arbor location. My last buy I got almost $80. I thought this was a review for the Sylvania location! My apologies!I dropped off a buy and since I didnt have an appt it took over a week for them to go through it. I got a text to come pick up within 24 hours but its problematic because I live out of town and I work night shift. I didnt get much money.
I have been a customer (buying and selling) of this location for almost 14 years and the staff/policies are becoming increasingly customer-unfriendly.I brought two bins into sell this week and was told that if I wanted to receive cash for my buybacks that I would have to wait in the store, and that it would be about 20 minutes. An hour later I was still waiting, while I saw other customers drop off bins and say that they wanted cash but absolutely could not wait. The policy should be applied uniformly, otherwise I could have just said the same thing and not wasted an hour of my time standing around.During this same visit, I purchased a brand-new pair of snow boots for my daughter. The store was having a use-your-own-shopping-bag-and-get-15%-off-all-purchases promotion; I had my own shopping bag, so I was able to get 15% off the purchase price. Unfortunately when I got home I found that the boots didnt fit my daughter, so I brought them back to the store to return only to be informed that (on the receipt) it states Returns Only On Full Priced Clothing & Shoes. So because the boots were bought using the 15% off promotion, EVEN THOUGH they were still brand-new and with the tags on ... the store refused to take them back for a refund. Nobody informed me of this policy before I bought the boots (once its printed on the receipt, isnt it already too late and unfair to the purchaser??), otherwise I wouldnt have bought them and would have brought my daughter into the store to try them on rather than dealing with the hassle of buying/returning.I will not return to this location and will not patronize this business any longer. Their policies have become increasingly customer-unfriendly and the small amount of money I get back from selling things and that I save by buying used things is just not worth the aggravation to me.
Love this store! It is so organized, has very nice stuff & I have been able to get some really good deals! The staff is always open to helping customers & goes out of there way when you may have any questions or concerns. The store is huge & you can tell how much work the staff puts into making sure the store looks nice for customers. Would recommend this store to anyone who has little ones they want to shop for merchandise that is in good condition at an affordable price!
This place is just fair. It used to be better when there were other childrens resale shops in the area, but with no competition, I guess they feel they can do what they want & offer poor quality (for the same price, or higher). They act very stringent on what they will accept, however, that range runs the gamut. They might turn away a pack & play because of a few teeth marks (hello!!! ?? only young kids use pack and plays, so likely, many are going to have some sign of use ...thats why its REsale ... why not just discount at a lower rate than a pristine one, instead of acting like it wont sell??? Someone surely will buy it ... that is, if you dont over price it.) meanwhile, I have bought clothes that Ive inspected fairly well at the store , and yet, once I get home, I find stains I didnt see before (their stores are not brightly lit ... could see stains better if the store was lit better, but I guess that, too, defeats their purpose) or I find a hole in the side seam of a pants where you wouldnt see it pop open until you folded the pants (their clothes are all on hangers). So, quality is a real issue at this store if youre expecting everything to be pristine. And, not for nothing, the prices on the clothing, in general, across clothing type and sizes arent really that great. For instance, a decent pair of leggings can cost $5-7 depending on brand, but catch a good Carters or Target sale, and you can get brand new leggings for the same price, and free shipping. So, Im kind of done with this store for the most part. Ill sell what I have, but am now getting cash for my sales and I can do better on price and quality elsewhere, and dont have to deal with fairly obnoxious staff (not all ... but many), the long check out waits for buying and selling, the 1,000 rules they seem to have ... then change w/no notice that Im aware of (for instance, they used to accept plastic bags/reusables ... then, a while ago, they said those would not be accepted b/c plastic holds in smells, etc., so now it is paper bag/boxes ... so I just brought in (8 diaper boxes of clothes to sell only to have them tell me that they dont accept paper/cardboard anymore due to the virus (???) uh ... thanks for not giving any notice? At least I didnt get this email notice. Um, #2, that makes no sense at all). Any way, long story short, service isnt good, rules are numerous and horrendous, majority of clothing is in fair condition but many are over priced, buying seems to be on the whim of whomever is working that day, with most staff acting like their store is high-end instead of what is actually is ... resale. Better of buying new on a good sale or just stocking up at Mom-to-Mom sales that deal with all of this.
Ive always loved shopping here for my 5 children. Unfortunately, because I am unable to wear a mask, I was told I could not shop at all or even be in the store. I am not sick, nor have been for a long time. Im not coughing or sneezing. I will have to take my business somewhere else. Very discriminating. I think it is a shame no consideration is made for those who cannot wear a mask. Very disappointed. I would gladly shop here again if they removed this requirement.
Charges for debit card as credit transactions so they can charge a percentage fee against your purchase...charging debit cards this way is against Master Cards policies. I did not see any signs that state this, and it made me not wish to return. If there was a sign, it needs to be bigger.
I went on the day they had 80% off their clearance. Great prices on clothes! Price-to-quality is better than if you were to get a new kids shirt at Walmart. I would suggest this place to any parent. Its clean has a very large selection of clothes for all ages and even new and used toys. Clothes are clean and well organized.
They don’t enforce masks here. Like at all. We were shopping at a time when it wasn’t even crowded but at least half of the customers had no mask at all, including older children and adults. They were interacting with the cashiers who said nothing.I asked a cashier if they enforce the masks and she said there’s a sign on the door, but no. Huge disappointment because I’m pregnant and high risk and we used to frequent this store but it’s not safe, we won’t be back.
I have been to almost all of the Once Upon a Child locations and the location in Ann Arbor is by far the best location with some of the best employees. The store is very clean and extremely well organized, the staff are always super friendly, and I am always able to find way more than what I went there for. They always give me a good deal on my buys that I taken and I really like that they offer either store credit or cash. They have great deals on most of their items, they always have good clearance merchandise, and they do different deals on different days. I love this store!
Ive been buying and selling all my kids clothes here for 8 years, and it can be a great deal. But watch out when you sell your kids clothes! If you choose store credit instead of cash, you get a little more. But those store credits expire!!! I had $78 in credits that I tried to use this week, but the store refused them because the expiration date had passed.
Love this location.Ann arbor OUAC is friendly, the staff is kind and helpful, prices can be high but if you shop the sales, especially for the nicer stuff and are part of the rewards program its worth it and you can save tons.Worst experiences at the Canton one. So snobby, so glad I found this Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti. I try to make it in here at least once a month to sell and buy odds and ends for my kids. Huge selection, from the outside it looks small, but its massive. So much to choose from. I mean prices for clothes stay pretty much the same. A footed pajama is 4.50, 5.50, 6.50. A 3pc Carters set can be 5.50, 6.50, 7.50. Shirts and bodysuits, 2.50, 3.50, 4.50.Also if you sell to them, and get store credit you will receive 20% more.
I have really mixed feelings about this place. They have a lot of stuff, and its decently organized so you can usually find what you need. However, the cashiers are extremely slow so if there is a line it takes forever. I have been overcharged several times. Even though I caught it right away and the error was clearly theirs, it was an ordeal (show ID, fill out forms, etc.) to get my money back. So now I basically only go there during slow times if I am desperate.
Have shopped/sold here multiple times. The selling process is pretty easy, and you get a bonus if you accept store credit.Great selection of clothes, although it decreases in the larger sizes (such as boys 16), possibly due to decrease in availability. Store does feel a bit cramped, due to high, full racks. It is well lit. There are frequent sales, and a loyalty program. There are two dressing rooms, which are kept locked. It is a hassle to get a room unlocked since they are in the back, and we usually have to go to the front to request a room. (And my adolescent children have difficulty getting acknowledgement/attention from someone behind the counter to request an unlock). Perhaps a baby monitor or wireless doorbell would be more efficient to dispatch someone with a key?The return policy does allow for clothing returns, but only a short window (7 days).Maternity clothing, toys, books and other items are also sold. Perhaps I should also note that the store is overwhelmingly resale items, but some new items are also sold
One of my absolute favorite stores to buy for my babies! Having 1 kids is expensive, but having twins, is twice as expensive, lol. Its great to be able to go into a store knowing Im going to walk out with more than enough items for the entire winter and still have money in my pocket. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. And the fact that I can take the kids gently used clothes and get an in store credit, or cash back is a BIG bonus!! I appreciate all their hard work, to make sure I get the best deals for my babies! Thank you once upon a child for all your hard work! We appreciate you!
Its a secondhand store, but many of their prices are the same as new clothes at Target or Walmart.I received a birthday reward for $5 off of a $10 purchase. The email said it had to be used ON or BEFORE my birthday. I went into the store on my birthday, and they wouldnt honor the reward. They said it had expired at midnight the night before.Theyve lost a customer, and I will not be shopping there again.
We have been to this location multiple times. Today we went to drop off clothes and there was a 10-20minute wait with one person ahead of us that was already started. After 50 minutes we came back to the store to find out our bin didnt even get started! The girl said she was new and it was going to take her some time to go through it. Originally she told my husband that he had to stay in store to hey a cash offer which is ridiculous since weve done this multiple times. Why would you have the new girl who is super slow be the only one checking clothes on a Saturday??
They would not accept my expired in-store credit. Who has expiration dates anymore? Wasted money down the drain. Also had clothes, but they werent accepting any more clothing that day. Told I didnt have it in proper bin, too. Rules....rules....rules. Im sure another charity would appreciate the clothes more with less restrictions. I know just where...
Clothes are overpriced for the quality and when you try to sell new brand name items-they reject it due to style. If the items are currently being sold in the big brand stores then they must still be in style, also when I have purchased things with stains and holes I have to question what they are looking for. Paying $18 for a cat and jack outfit thats $22 brand new at the store is insane to me. Save yourself the trouble, Carters always has 60% off sales making their clothes way cheaper (and brand new). Also, get a nicer staff at your perrysburg location.
This used to be my favorite once upon a child I would come from Livonia just to go here well not anymore! I went in last Friday I was there at 10:30 they open at 9 to drop off some things to sell after I get it all in the door 3 box’s so not a ton I was told they are no longer taken clothes for the day!!!! I asked can you possibly store them and look at my stuff on sat ? Was told we don’t have room!!! Have u seen how big the store is. Very Frustrating as I had my three month old with me. I will not recommend once upon a child to Ann Arbor to anybody I will refer them to the Novi store or the Canton store! Edit Thanks for the excuses per owner is not my concern that four other stores have been not taking as much as supply you might want to add that to your voicemail that way other people are driving as far to come to your store because I will not be coming back
Great place to buy clothes. Be wary if selling. We took in a large box of clothes on Sunday. The ticket was processed quickly. That was shocking as we are used to a long wait from other stores. They took a couple pairs of Nike shoes and cut us a decent deal. Took none of our clothes. They wrote on the bottom of our receipt they needed clothes for 1 to 3 year old boys. The box we had was full of name brand boy items from 0 to 3 (small tiff) to a large amount of 12 months to 3t. We were confused. We figured maybe they didnt want Gap, Nike, Under Armour, and etc.... When we got home we started to go through the box to refold and sort the clothes. We discovered they leafed though the top layer and left it unfolded, but the rest was still neatly folded and sorted by size just as I had placed it in the box. Kind of disappointing for us as we drove an hour to get there and spent 35 minutes waiting around for them to not do what they agreed to do. I would probably stop in to shop when Im in the area, but I doubt I would sell to them again. While we did make a small sale, we would rather they just tell us if they dont feel like going through the box. It would save us the effort of lugging it in and waiting around. We are the type that appreciates honesty over trying to fluff over a couple customers.
Went for a clearance event that supposedly had a major clearance for all sizes, mid advertised. Most the clothes were overly expensive for being used (can get it at regular stores cheaper on clearance- not worn) but the store was big and clean. Clothes were organized well. They also sell brand new stuff too, but honestly if your going for the thrift store experience it’s not worth it at this location.
Unfortunately, the buyer(s) the day my friend and I went in to sell AND buy, they have no clue of the high-end childrens clothes she brought in and many were turned down. Plus several quality/designer winter coats! They sure missed out. Sad. Their selection of coats in stock didnt come close to the quality and style they had turned down. Whaat?!!?
Since the renovation, this store is huge and it can be hectic looking for clothes because the selection is overwhelming. Not a place you want to drag your kids along with because it will take some time to go through everything. Employees are friendly from my experiences, but if you ever need to return something - check out their policy because its ridiculously strict.Update 5/16/18:Just returned here to purchase some summer clothes and the prices have gone way up. Shirts in 4T were ranging anywhere from $3.50-$7!! Walked right out, went to JC Penney and they had boys separates on sale for $4.99! This is brand new stuff were talking about! Unless this store brings the prices back down, I refuse to come here again.
We made a special trip to come out to this store and found so many great finds for our little boy. I was very impressed by the amount of higher end brands, and if I lived in the area, I would definitely shop here often. Ill be back whenever Im in town, and highly recommend it to others!
I waited from 3pm until 8:50 for them to only offer me $43. I opened my totes to find most of my items that are almost new with no stains, rips, and or tears not excepted . I looked through this store to find items on the hangers that are not what they have asked for. The girls were nice. Will not be bringing any items there for resale. They should stick to just selling.
Me and my husband drove over an hour to have the buyer look at our clothes. When we got there, we got signed in and they told us they would look through them and let us know their offer. After 15 min (which seemed way too fast for me) they texted that the buyer was finished. When I went to find out what our offer was, I was shocked to find out that they had passed on all the clothes I brought in and wouldn’t be buying any of them. They told me the reason for them passing on them was that the clothes were stained, too worn out and not in style. I am so confused! I came home and looked through my clothes and couldn’t find any stains! I have dresses that my daughter never wore that still have the tags on them! My son’s clothes are like new as he is just only 3 months, I was getting rid of all his NB. I had clothes from brand names such as Carters, Oshkosh, Nike, etc. My clothes looked newer than some of those for sale on their racks. I am so disappointed because I spent the entire evening getting all 260 pieces of clothes ready to take there to only be told they wouldn’t take any of them. We used to be a customer of Once Upon a Child but sadly now we will not be.
I called before I went in because I had never been here before and wanted to know exactly what to do to sell items. I asked several questions and came in within the hour. Before I even got to the counter the woman started to tell me I couldnt bring my items in because they were in plastic bags. I explained that I had called prior and no one explained that to me. She simply said oh... and went back to what she was doing while her co worker ignored me and walked away. I stood there for a moment before I explained that Im in the middle of moving and this is all I had. Her response was that if I were moving, I should have boxes for the clothes... RUDE. I am a retail store manager and this is NOT how you treat customers.
Decent selection of clothing. Rude manager. Tip for all of you if your child opens anything, because kids being kids are bound to be mischievous. Just leave it there, dont be like me and be honest about it bc they told me I had to purchase it bc they cant resell it tho they are a resale shop. If I hadnt spent over an hour looking for clothes, I would of just leftlall of my merchandise and left .
I bought two sleepers. Both had holes. One the zipper came unstitched. I bought a toy phone for $10 used. Got home and the same toy phone was $5 on amazon. I will never shope here again. Id rather donate my baby clothes to a charity like foster closet. Where someone actually needs them, than letting someone profit this much off used baby clothes with holes and stains. What a rip off. But, my bad for not realizing this on the first place. I dont recommend this place I recomend shopping anywhere in the world but this disgusting store. $9 50 for a two piece sleep set. I can get 3 for $15 on amazon brand new. Live and learn.
WARNING!!I tried to drop off my items and was turned away because they were in a plastic bag. I was suggested to go and PURCHASE a tote somewhere else so that they can look through my items.I was NOT going to go buy a tote for them to maybe purchase items from me. I ended up having to leave with them refusing to look at my (small grocery bag) of maybe 5 items. There was no line and nobody in the store.Bummer because I generally liked this place. Ridiculous.
Horrible social policies. A young woman in their employ was assaulted - and despite being assaulted she showed up for work the next day. This young woman was fired as she tried to make safety plans for herself and unborn child. Where Once Upon a Child should have stepped up and offered aid in this circumstance - they decided that it was too much of a hassle and fired this woman. I used to shop here. I will never shop here again - and I will encourage others to visit other consignment stores what are actually vested in the community, women, and the people that work for them. Im an employer myself so I understand the complexities - and I would never behave as the owners did here. Support battered women by shopping elsewhere.
Dear owner, the legitimacy of your statement regarding the pricing only works only in the case of itemized clothes. I did not see any proof of this statement in your store. Or by other words when I rejected extremely unprofitable offer stuff brought back my items from under the table. It means to me that good clothes never go to sale in your store at the expense of infringement of the rights of customers. You have plenty of people who work in your store and I agreed the shelves are full and look good. But to get the legitimacy of the pricing you must show proof of at least some itemized clothes. Unfortunately, I did not get it..
A few weeks ago, i got the message from them saying I can get 10 off 30 purchase and I went there and at the check out, they said their system is not working and there was no way to help to give me the discount.Today I went in the store with a big plastic bag of baby clothes. The staff said no, you can not leave your stuff here in plastic bags. I have always been bringing stuff in plastic bags and never had any problem. I said you can return the bag to me when I return or can I borrow your one of your bins? She said it very loud and clear No. Ok, i cleared my backpack and put clothes in and left and when I returned, found out they turned down every piece. The reason was too much love or overstock with infant stuff. I know at least a lot of them were just used three or five times.Done with this store, completely.
Great prices for all of the things they have in the store, great clothing and toy options too, along with just about anything else you can think of for kids. They change out clothes based on the season, organize by color and size which makes it so much easier to find what youre looking for
I used to love this store. I have been a customer of theirs ever since they were further down the road on Washtenaw. As of today, I will no longer shop there because of their treatment of me. Today was their 90% off clearance items so they were the busiest I have ever seen them! It was extremely packed. I was there finding things for my daughters and son. I was trying to find a pair of rain boots for my 1 1/2 year old son. There was a tag on them that prevented me from trying them on him so my daughter took them to the front desk so they could remove it. Now, if you have bought rain boots before then you know that most of them have straps on the top that you use to pull them up onto your childs feet. I was sliding the boot on and used the strap on one of the boots and it broke. So obviously, I am not going to purchase them. They were not of a good quality because the strap that is intended to be pulled on, broke, using it for its intended purpose. So I had my daughter return the boots to the front desk so they could reattach the tag. I thought, no problem. I then waited in line for at least 45 minutes, because as I said, this was the busiest I had ever seen them. The line was from the front desk all the way to the back of the store. So I get up to the desk to pay for my purchases, and Im asked if my daughter was my daughter (as she was the one who brought the boots to and from the desk). I said yes, and then I was told that since I broke the boot, that I needed to purchase them. I explained that I was not buying a broken boot, as it broke through no fault of mine. I used the strap as intended, to try them on my son because I obviously need to try them on him before I purchase them. The manager didnt know what to say, so she just repeated herself so I repeated myself. I was not buying a broken boot that was obviously bad quality. She then told me that every store has the break it and buy it policy. I of course, told her that that was not correct. Im sorry, but if I were at Meijer, Walmart, Target, etc and I was trying an article of clothing/shoes on and it broke, there is absolutely no way that I would be forced to purchase something broken. So then the manager calls the owner, the owner says that she will give them to me for 50% off. I refused. Why would I want to purchase something that broke through no fault of my own and that bad of quality? At that point they threatened to call the police on me. I told them to go ahead. Its quite laughable really, except that I have been a very long time customer with them, have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars there, and yet I was treated like a damn criminal! The other customers that were waiting in line looked embarrassed and sympathetic to my situation. This store also knows or should know, there is no law of you break it, you buy it. There may be store policies that attempt that but that depends on the negligence of the customer. Using a strap that is intended to be pulled on, to get the boot on the childs foot, and the resulting breaking of the strap, is in NO way negligent. The store employee even went so far as to follow me to my car and take a picture of my license plate. They lost a long time customer over a pair of $8 rain boots. I will also stop recommending them to everyone I know that has children, as I used to do in the past. I will also be contacting the owner and their franchise. If I or my children had broken something through negligence or maliciousness, then this wouldnt be an issue. Pulling on a strap and it breaking was not negligent or malicious on my part.
Once upon a child is supposed to be gently used items... Why are more than half the toys brand new in packaging and priced as normal retailers would price? This particular store has an outdated system apparently as it is ALWAYS down.Visited after Christmas, 7 people were behind the counter, not including the cashier... The lady in front of me had cards that needed to be activated by their system but the system was down, so they had to call them in, but their phones were down, and instead of having one of the other 7 people working handle her, or start ringing up the very large line of people, they made us wait while the cashier called the cards in.They recently expanded and the store is well kept, and clothing is organized. But staff is rude, toys are.. Well.. No used toys to really speak of. My son was very disappointed.
I have shopped here many, many times. The people are friendly, and well-rounded. I cant ever go in there without buying something! However, their stock seems to be repetitive, and there isnt much preemie stuff. I also find that the same clothes are marked different prices.
I have purchased a broken rocking chair while I was pregnant . Its a gently used store so I was happy to fix this chair myself for the discounted price. Went to sell some of my larger items (swing, exersaucer, stroller, play mat) to be told they had a small stain and or missing parts there for would not be able to buy them. Ive skipped over several cloths items because they had stains or too loved as they like to label it. Didnt realize gently used really meant put together out of box to be then resold.
Drove 45 minutes to shop at the only store open that I could get maternity clothes in my size and was told, despite being exempt from wearing a mask due to a medical condition, that I could not stay and shop. The manager of the Ann Arbor location apparently thinks medical discrimination is acceptable.
Very disappointed. I took 2 bins of clothes. Now I was very good about only taking in clothes that did not have any stains and like new condition. I was shocked on how quick they said they were done. They barely took anything. When I went home and looked in the bins they left things with tags. They left lots of things they say they are in need of. The clothes were all folded like I put them in there. I DO NOT THINK THEY WENT THROUGH THE BINS. They took a few things off the top and that was it.
5 stars bc their clothes have awesome prices and name brand. For example, I got my grandson 2 pair jeans, 5 pair shorts and 4 tops...Name brand from Levis to authentic tigers puma, Rocka wear..Now, they do accept gentle used name brand clothes for cash or credit... Awesome place
As of late 2016, this place doubled in side, sot he selection is great. We do most of our kids fall and spring shopping here. While we can afford dept stores and boutiques, its amazing the designer items and very cute items that can be found here! Theye moved to a very nice digital system for dropping off used items and tracking store credit (ie, abandoning the old stamp cards that Id lose).
The owner and her staff are thieves. I dropped 5 boxes of clothing off to them Sunday night and their power was out. I was going to take the items home with me but the women assured me I could leave them there and they would contact me when they were done with the offer. They never did. I contacted them finally the following Saturday when I remembered. I was told that they had called me on Monday, no they absolutely didnt, and had given me until the end of business on Monday to collect my items. 5 hours, according to them, is the time they allowed me to get to them and pick up my items. I had over 225 Baby items including clothes, bottles, bumbo chairs and a number of other things. The owner told me that they were all then donated to Washtenaw County. So I checked. Washtenaw County claimed they did receive a donation from that business but it was 1, ONE small box. I went into the store and lo and behold, I found item after item with price tags on it. They never donated the items, they kept them and are profiting off them.Go to Grow with me, the Salvation Army or another Once Upon a Child, but stay away from these crooks.
VERY DISAPPOINTING! I had clean, name brands, a Polo boys t-shirt, brand new bathinet and darling fancy toddler dresses----everything was rejected except 1 pair of shoes and 2 brand new (with tags on) infant jumpsuits. I brought them in the pouring rain, too. It was a lesson in total frustration! The owner of this store should be notified if others have similar experiences. Maybe the owner reads these reviews---I hope!
I have gone here several times looking for a specific item (a white shirt, a church dress, a pair of summer sandals, etc.) and have been able to find what I was looking for each time. They have a large selection of items in many sizes. I also like the maternity clothes!
Well it started out well the staff greet me when i went to the store. I was looking for a newborn benie and mitten. So i went to ask one of the staff if she can help me she did help me find what i was looking for she was helpful. But the down fall was when i went to cash out my 3 item i wanted to purchase the cashier girl just totally ignore me i was the second person in line it wasnt busy. She just went straight to her side job duty. Being the patient person i am i just wait for a few minutes and till she come back. Which she did 10 minutes later i was so disappointed this was my first time to shop at this store. It maybe my last if the customer services doesnt approve.
Customer service very poor. Tried to sell some clothing to them today. Waited half an hour to get message they had looked through clothes. Had to get in huge line with everyone buying things to see if they wanted any items I brought in. Waited 40 minutes in line. Finally got to the front of line walked up to cashier. He did not acknowledge me at all and walked away from his register. I then went to girl next to him once she was done with her customer and then she tells me that they are overstocked on all items I brought in, so they bought nothing . A big waist of my time! Will never go back!
Few things you should be aware. If you bring good clothes stuff would try to make profit only on their behalf. They will professionally lie to your face that they can not itemized everything or by other words they will pick up good stuff for nothing. It happened with me today. You should ONLY bring things which you do not care anymore.
Went to buy pants for my son all used pants were around $10-15 each in his size 2T-3T.. really ridiculous cost for use pants, I will not be wasting my time to come here again, the prices are to high. I can buy NEW pants for that same price at the Childrens Place store and elsewhere. Unfriendly Service as well.
We have been going there for a while, its always something. Problems with their reward system, spots and holes, unfriendly staff. Today was the last straw as we will never return. A staff member took it upon herself to tell me how to parent. My children had gone to get something from each of their sections. They walked there and walked back. She told me they were being unruly, I was keeping an eye and ear on them. But I brought them all next to me and had them stay at the cart. My youngest daughter was doing just as I told her to, to stand on the end of the cart. It was not moving. I walked about five feet away to grab something, watching them the whole time and this same employee told her to get down. I told the woman that I was their parent and watching them carefully. She argued with me that they were not safe. I explained to her again that they actually were safe, I take care of my children very well and am a good parent and would not put them in any danger or allow them to be unruly. She continued to argue with me, insinuating I was a bad parent. We left. Will not return.
Theire store credit is quite scatchy. For the second time I was buying something and wanted to use store credit. I was told I had non left. After arguing and fishing out a receipt that was only a week old she typed it in and suddenly I had $8 in credit. It happened to me before. After asking g why it was not in the computer they were not able to tell me. I was advised to keep my receipts. Though they fade so quickly and some are illegible after just a month.
Horrible. Drove an hr to wait 2 hrs for the clothes being sold to be looked through. The manager decided to hold a meeting in the middle of the process yelling at her employees. If you want to satisfy your customers you should wait till end of shift or start to do you management duties. If your going to take 2 hrs to sort one tote of clothes invest in some benches!! The one employee I delt with kept apologizing but the rest were snooty!!! Think next time i will be going to toledo!
I find something every time I walk in this store. Ive sold there as well and granted you wont make as much as if you sold on your own, but if you take their store credit and combine it with their great sales, you can really walk away with a lot for a little. The stock is always changing and its basically a new store everytime I visit.
Horrible experience , this is my first time coming to a once upon a child ever I called roughly around 4:30 to see how it all works out I was only told to bring clothes in a basket and or plastic container.. I arrived at 8:30 with my daughter and really did not feel greeted I just received weird looks, to be told that they could not assist me due to the timing which is understandable she also stated that each store in under different management ,and I made staff aware that I called a location (which turned out to be this location) ironically and was not told of these circumstances .. the store was completed empty when I arrived as well I still did not get taken care of tho I did call earlier ..never coming back here again
I dont think they like to buy things from African Americans. They always have bogus reasons why they dont want to buy high quality, name brand in good condition things from myself and others i know. Saying somethings wrong with it but i seen things on their racks that should jave been given away. They were tattered, faded or shoes that were stained and when i confront them about it they say its due to whats in demand. When has anyone ever demanded clothing in that condition if they were paying for it? I think its some type of profiling and i will not go back. The one in ann arbor does this and thee one in canton has a staff with terrible attitudes. Ill be going back to value world or salvation army for second hand shopping.
The one star is only so I can post this. Extremely disappointed by the customer service. There was a long line of people and around 9 salesperson at the store. One at cashier, 2 folding some stuff behind him. 6 or 7 having a meeting at the back( you can see them). The cashier guy said something to his colleagues behind him that he needed somebody else to help checkout customers at the next register but their answer was negative. He was grumpy and when I said thank you he replied with a hasty my pleasure and a nasty grin that says: get the hell out of here already! The manager who was holding the meeting right behind the counter never bothered to send another person to help at checkout even though she could see it was getting crowded, not to mention the smoking going on in front of store or not too far from it so when you are walking towards them, your kids already inhale all the stuff, which is something I always ignored until I got poorly treated today.
They had a great selection, but they told me my stuff was going to be done in 50 mins. We went back after an hour and 15 mins and they were still looking through it. It took them over 2 hours to do it when they said 50 mins. I get they get busy but Im not from around this way and I had other things to do. It took over my whole day. I dropped it off at 9:45 and it wasnt done until 12:45. So disappointed.
Strict/rude managerWe’ll never come back to this store again, We bought a kid car here at night and tried to return it the next day because in less than 10 minutes it doesn’t work but the strict/rude manager won’t let us to return it because she said it’s final sale.so we just waste $100 from this store.they over price too.

2022-05-19Really big store! I will say it is more expensive than the one in Canton Michigan but I enjoyed picking up some cute items for the kids. I did buy a reusable bag and its massive! I really love how it says (once upon a child, Ann arbor) all over it.

2022-07-07I wanted to give a big shout out to Chelsea and Lila for helping me get acclimated to Once Upon a Child. I found it a great place to find reasonable priced items for my nieces a nephews. I am going to enjoy shopping there quite often.

2022-06-08When shopping here, my 13 year old daughter was looking for baby clothes while we were getting shoes, a very rude worker told us that all kids even had to be with adults. So a responsible teen cant shop here? Then after she approached us, rudely announced on the intercom all kids, EVEN TEENAGERs had to be with parents. Well needless to say my daughter did NOT spend her money here.We are here visiting Motts Childrens hospital which we come every eight weeks. Now the rude lady is smoking in front of the store. Wow.

2022-07-04Caught them on a bad day. Credit card machine was down and a series of customers that had items on consignment were not happy about getting checks for payment on the items they sold.

2022-07-07I,a 13 year old came to look for some Thomas trains used,I asked if they have any of the Thomas trains, they said “all teens have to be with a parent” ,I could tell they hate the people who come here and I hear that they smoke outside the building, the selection of toys was good but I didn’t get to explore, not worth the bike ride

2022-01-05Friendly staff, great prices & deals on gently used childrens clothing. With sale items, prices were amazing. There are some new items that are cheaper than Meijer or Walmart. Great place for childrens clothes, toys, diapers, furniture, strollers...

2022-06-28I came in with only 2, 18 gallons totes and was told I needed to call first to see if they had enough staff to do it, the owner was so rude to me. On the other hand, from other posts I heard she is racist. I told them I will not be selling or buying from you guys again. I also sell and buy from canton and Brighton and they have no limits on Totes, and you don’t have to call!

2022-01-25Quality is really slipping and prices have gone up a lot. For example, I can buy new leggings from old navy for $5 and their used are $7.50. They also now charge you a percentage to use your credit card and do not provide bags. There is no mask requirement for employees or patrons so unvaccinated babies can come home with covid at no additional charge. Ive shopped here for years but wont be back unless they make some changes.

2022-01-08This is my favorite location. They are always nice.I see people complaining about over pricing and not as cheap as other locations. Are you adults? Use your brain only one time did I find a new item with the retailer tag overpriced and I went to the register and asked could they make it down and they did. Now as far as other location being priced differently you realize these are people pricing and not a machine. If its cheaper elsewhere dont buy it. Ive been to thrift stores with over priced items that were donated!
