Building is beautiful. However the owner is terrible. Building is not maintained at all heat will only work for a few hours at a time then go out. The windows were probably the original windows, and leaked air, so it would get cold quick in the building. More than 3/4 of the elevators dont work properly. All of the floors above 26 only have 1operational elevator though the bank has 6.
To crowded and one of the clerks in the birth certificate department was very rude and not able to assist the 3 people that whos name she called because she was to eager being nosey worrying about what we were doing and saying to the lady who called to assist us. And she spoke very nasty to us.And I love your building its very beautifully made, and great for scenery pictures. 💗💯😎
Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, They have a restaurant and a mini store inside of the building. They have a public restroom. They have valet parking for 14.00 all day, the price has gone up since 2018 when valet parking was 12.00. They have helpful and friendly security. The building is clean. It is very hard to find free parking. There are many parking lots around the area, but you have to pay to park, the building does not have free parking and it is always crowded around the building.
This is a beautiful iconic building with so much potential. Unfortunately, the owner refuses to invest the money into this building to renovate and bring it up to speed with the rest of the high rises downtown. I have worked in an office in this building for three years and its a nightmare - neglected to the point of being a safety hazard. Only one or two out of the 6+ elevators are in working order so it takes over 5 mins just to get up to the office at times, maybe more during busy times like lunch or end of the day. People have gotten stuck in the elevators and had to be rescued by the fire department. Amenities for tenants are basically nonexistent - security, maintenance, valet and janitorial all suck.Pay Penobscot a visit to see the architecture. would not recommend renting an office in this building.
Absolutely dont like the parking down there. The business you have to take care of and the amount of time they may keep you in there, because they dont start at the scheduled time, and, if you have to park in a pay zone, it seems that its set up for you to be issued a ticket for overtime if you cant run out to issue more money to the meter. Which is money on top of money. City of Detroit IS making money. Come on. I hate it.
Historic and well-preserved inside with a few updates that would be nice. I worked here over the summer, and it was pretty hot and sticky in the hallways. There is an elevator I tend to avoid because it looks so rickety and havent had its burned-out light bulbs changed in a while. Other than that, the security guards are very friendly; on the first day of my job, I was a tad bit lost, and a friendly security guard explained which elevators to take and how to get to the office I needed. Theres a sandwich shop, donut shop, Greek restaurant, ping pong restaurant, and some Detroit shops inside the Penobscot building for your workday convenience.
Terrible aside from the bull$hi* of FOC old raggedy building everything that could have went wrong did elevators scary and fire alarm went off thanks God my mother didnt go with me cause had to take stairs down while alarm going off then two levels of stairs down they said false alarm 😠 they really should do better they are screwing us out of enough money to.... SMMFH not such a friendly place what D.A named them FRIEND of court need to be horse kicked in the head
The employees have no idea where anything is and there is no map or helpful directory of the building. They sent me to the wrong location within the building SIX TIMES including having me go to the Coleman A Young building TWICE which is 2-3 blocks away! The walk isnt bad itself but when youve been to one building three different times in the same morning in heels... Well it gets old!!
If you use the public parking the valet public parking out of this building make sure you take anything of value with you I used today and parked my car there for about 3 hours and there are marijuana edibles missing from my car so not only did they go through my stuff and steel I have to assume that they ate the candy and now theyre driving my vehicle high and everybody else that comes in there as vehicle High I do not recommend this place not if you value the items that you have in your car there a bunch of Thieves
An older building that maintains some of its old charms in a sea where large new age buildings are being built. Restaurants and businesses are located here. I attended a game called trapped in a room with a zombie that was literally in one big room. If youre interested in the history of old detroit this is a great place to start.
This place has very rude people that work here. Especially floor 900a they have the rudest lady in there that work she the nastiest attitude ever. Why work for the public if you gone keep an attitude all time. I’m going to definitely be speaking to someone over her cause she is a lazy women with an messed up attitude.
Went in for child support, love the new office and set up, you can also bring your phone in now, it was fast the office was actually quite beautiful, the employees could have better attitudes but it was great, not angered by thought of having to go down to the child support building anymore.
Beautiful lobby that is open to the public. Zimmermans Deli had recently opened up a satellite location in the old teller room and the other shops are well with a visit. If youre ever walking by this building, head in for a snack, a souvenir from Detroit, and a look at an almost untouched interior from a late 20s building. A ham in the heart of Detroit.
A historic office building in the northern end of Downtown Detroits financial district, with wonderful Gothic / Native American architecture, both internal and external. The Penobscot is The Guardian Buildings lesser known cousin up the street, as in they are both historical architectural sky scraper gems
Friend of the court is very unorganized, set up a genetic test, never received a letter saying the date nor time, ended up missing the test, now going through hell just to get ahold of them and try to reschedule because of there screw up, definitely needs new management

2019-07-16Beautiful Building. Amazing architecture. So much history and stories I have been told about inside the building on different floors and the well known stars who have frequented it over the years. The office spaces are very nice, spacious, has an amazing energy being inside the 3rd tallest building Downtown Detroit. If anyone is looking to rent out an office space downtown, I would definetly recommend the Penobscot Building.

2021-10-27The Penobscot Building could be gorgeous. I worked on the 43rd floor from 2014- March 2021. My office overlooked Comerica Park. Every office in our suite had breathtaking views. The sunset photo below is taken from the in-suite bathroom. The security and building staff were friendly and professional. My low review has nothing to do with them. The building’s staff do the best they can with the resources available to them. The Penobscot has two elevator shafts, so you need to transfer elevators to get to floors 34-44. I got stuck in the elevators several times (once for over an hour). On multiple occasions I was required to take walk 10+ floors to my office when the tower elevator was inoperable.During my last months there my suite had no running water. This meant I had to (hopefully) take two elevators to the 13th floor to use the restroom. It’s a shame that this building has fallen into disrepair.

2018-10-21One of the most historically recognized buildings in downtown #Detroit. Full of offices that have housed many well known local law firms, city government offices, small bodega, locally owned clothing stores, restaurants, bars, fine dining eateries, a pingpong themed bar, and lastly, one of the last known shoeshineing places in the country.
