Pet City Pets in other cities:
I have been a Pet City customer for over 15 years. I bought my very first dog (Yorkie Poodle) there. She was the best dog ever and gave me so many years of pure joy! I also have purchased two cats from there. I only purchase my cat food (Taste of the Wild) from here because it’s top rated and the only food my cat will eat. The owner and employees have always been extremely knowledgeable and helpful whenever I am in the store. The store is very clean and the puppies and cats all seem well cared for and happy. I would recommend purchasing your next puppy here if you’re in the market for one. It does help to go and get to know the puppy and choose which one suits you best, they all seem to have their own personalities. This place makes the experience very fun and don’t make you feel pressured to buy, that was important to me. Thank you Pet City for all the happy memories and good years with all of my fur babies!!!
I walked in simply to check this place out for myself after reading about the deplorable conditions their puppies are kept in, in addition to the fact that this store only obtains its puppies from PUPPY MILLS. This store deserves to be shut down for continuing this practice. STOP SELLING PUPPIES!!!! Anyone who purchases a puppy from this store is most likely going to have many expensive vet bills down the road. They come from very bad stock.
Over the past couple of months Ive visited this pet store on multiple occasions without purchasing a single thing. I was looking for a puppy, and wanted to gather as much information before making the life long commitment of bringing a puppy into my home. The other pet stores I had visited had a hurry up and buy attitude. Not here at pet city, they were more concerned about a bond between the person and the pet. After spending two hours yesterday hanging out with a mini aussie and asking Steve a million questions (thank you for your patience Steve) we made the connection with the mini aussie. Now heres something that those who have read some of the negative reviews should know about this place. They wont just send a puppy out the door with you just because you are ready to buy. If the puppy isnt ready they let you know when it will be, which for us was today. They make sure the dog is eating, drinking, going potty as it should, and that its healthy. We took our puppy home today and after about an hour of being home with us he has quickly adjusted to our home. Hes eating and drinking just fine, and both times he has went potty it has been outside. I appreciate you guys taking all the time you did with us and helping us find our newest family member.
The favorite local pet store to stock up on pet products! Dogs sell fast here because I swear they only get the fluffy and cutest ones! They carry a large selection of doggy products considering it is a small building! Great for reptile products as well! 💗💗 they have fishies too! 🐟 🐟
Only been here once to buy dog food, but the entire atmosphere felt off during that time. Ive mostly come here to review that this store has been raided by the Humane Society, and the owner has pleaded guilty to animal neglect. Something I feel folks deserve to know.Theres an article on MLive that goes into detail about the puppies with Parvovirus and those that were found dead next to heaters, for anyone with the stomach to read further. I highly suggest not supporting this location and finding somewhere else. Animals deserve to be happy and healthy, not sick and dying. If you love animals, this is probably not the place to stand by.I cannot speak to their current operations, but reading through the case/article detailed some truly horrific things and a long history of concerning practice, and I am absolutely shocked that they have been allowed to remain open.
Great prices and very helpful owner and workers! We have purchased 4 puppies from here that have all been very healthy, wonderful temperaments, and lived to very old ages happy as can be(3 are still with alive). We will be purchasing from pet city pets for years to come!
I had a great experience here finding my new healthy fur baby a havanese/shih-tzu/poodle mix. Both Steve and Stu were very informative and helpful. I was even contacting them with all kinds of questions after I brought my puppy home and was provided with much guidance. Was also provided a puppy package upon taking my puppy home.
Lots of puppies on the weekends. Sales people are very nice and knowledgeable. It smells more like fishes and reptiles then puppies or cats. Doesnt smell too great, they need a ventilator. Variety of dog food, treats, harness collars, all reasonable price. Its too bad its in a trashy neighbor, the people I saw today look really frighting with their bald tattoos , long ugly beards, ugh they scared my kids, we left.
They staff here do not show any interest working with animals or with the public. Not friendly or helpful people. The store itself is in pretty rough shape, the animals are in even worse shape... prices on everything is very high, but you can definitely tell its not going back into the store or care for the animals. Its on record with the humane society, that they had and were trying to sell sick dogs, knew the dogs were sick and did not seek vetcare.. Ive personally supported this store in the past, hoping it was trying to improve its establish and care, but sadly its getting worse. The store reached out for support from the community, asking to voice personal experience and opinions of their store because they wanted to improve things after this last animal abuse investigation. Then proceed to block every negative comment, concerns and questions, That were asked or voiced.I definitely do NOT recomend this petstore.
I rarely take the time to write reviews but I have to put this out there. My experience with Pet City Pets has been awesome from start to finish. I have been looking for the right addition to my family for almost a year and visited there frequently and was always treated great. I finally found my furkid and she, Sweetie, a small toy poodle, has been awesome. You can just tell by her personality how well she has been treated. I have been there a few times after my purchase to look at puppy stuff and get her a check up and each visit has been great. Thanks to Pet City Pets I have everything that I could ask for, after all, this is a long term commitment and big decision. I am very happy!
Loved this place at first. The store had a variety of animals in the shop and friendly staff who loved the animals and were willing to work with you. However, we put 100 down on a dog just to come back to pick him up and them give us a different dog that they tried to pass off as the other one.
This is a great place, and I have to be honest when I first started going there a couple years ago there was a strong smell in there and I couldnt stay in there long. I am sure it was because of past employees that didnt do what they were supposed to be doing to keep it clean and no longer work there. As time went by and I went in more and more and the smell was less and less. And actually thinking about it (because I was reading the reviews, it reminded me I had forgotten about it Lol!) I just went in today there is no longer any bad smells. I am impressed! Keep up the good work Stu and employees! Heres to many more years of your wonderful pet store.
I originally started going here when I got a bearded dragon, they always answered any question I had, happily. They even helped when I thought he was sick. And I didnt even buy the lizard from them, they were just glad to help. Not long after I bought a great dog, with no health problems. And about a month ago I bought a puppy who is in perfect health. They even give you $25 dollars in supplies when you buy a puppy, which is very helpful. Before I was born my mother bought a cat there that lived to be 15, she was in perfect health but unfortunately a wild animal got her. I have only ever had good experiences here and I will always go back! This place is so helpful.
I just spoke with the most unsympathetic person. The dog that was given to me as a gift was purchased from there and is now ill with heart worms. He was quick to tell me that wasnt covered and if it was heart disease it would be covered but he didnt offer any suggestions as to a vet that they use that may give a discount....he was quick to tell me that he have to get off the phone with our 2 min conversation. But, I remember when I called when the dog was still a puppy that the conversation wasnt rushed. Ive been recommending this pet store, but with this experience I wont do that again.
I had such an amazing experience here. Steve and Frankies mom (Im sad to say I never got her name) were awesome. They treated me and everyone who came in as if we were old friends. They were so helpful in making my decision and very knowledgeable. I will definitely be back. Thank you so much! My puppy is perfect!
This is a really great pet store. The employees are always super friendly. One time I needed crickets for my salamander really badly and when we pulled up they were locking the doors. We just about to go to pet smart but one of the guys stopped us and asked us if crickets were all that we needed so he took us in and let me buy a bag of crickets even though they could have just said they were closed. This was so nice that we didnt have to drive to pet smart and pay 3 more dollars for the same amount of crickets you can get for $1 at pet city. Great place!
Have been in the store several times and this place is hands down filthiest pet store i have been to. Staff are knowledgeable but dont seem to care very much. My experiences have been mostly positive here but seeing expired dog/cat food is concerning the smell is horrid prices are very high especially on expired food... most supplies around the store are far over priced i understand making a dollor but dont right ripping people off is sad. Parking lot is loose gravel that people peel out on shooting rocks at cars. Overall look of the store is not great looks rundown ive seen some work getting done. Then nothing very siprised thought this place might turn around i will be taking my families bussiness elsewhere from now on thank you.
I go to the grooming in pet city pets for my dog Riley, he loves her and enjoys going. my dog has certain needs and most groomers my dog is mean too. I keep going to her she treats my dog so well, very nice and respectful. I am happy i decided to stay with her as my dogs groomer. i always recommend people or friends how have dogs to her.
They always have the dog food that my dogs eat in stock and the staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable in what types of dog food is good and what they have in them. They take the time to explain how to care for the reptiles and what not that they sell there as well. I do wish they would stop selling puppies though.
After looking at the local shelter and not finding an older dog that would fit into our home, I convinced my boyfriend to come here. I knew their puppies were cheap and the staff is generally nice. I felt confident that a family owned store couldnt be a puppy mill because of the condition its in. (Like PetLand, flashy and overpriced). We went on a very good day, because the gentleman (I forget who) who helped us, was very friendly and gave us opinions about breeds and talked to us about all the puppies without being pushy. We decided on a aussiepoo, who passed his free examination and fecal. The only thing that concerned me is that he lost a few ounces (ounces mind you) on the second trip. The vet said probably because they sit a lot in that store.I asked how big I should expect him and the guy who helped us said he didnt know. I then pressed and said well dont you know the breeders/ where the puppies come from? He then said oh yes the owner knows them personally. So I asked again well how big should I expected him? He then said 60-75 pounds. Thats a huge dog to just have grow up in your home if you were not expecting that size! So Im not sure if the puppies were new and the guy wasnt brief on their parents or what but we shall see if he does grow into that size.
I found this place online and sent my husband here just to look, he fell in love with a puppy right away! It was a litter of three beautiful little girls, they are English Bulldog/ Australian Shepherd mixes, and they were playing with each other an being so cute. My husband ended up putting a down payment on one before he left. The next day we went back together and brought our Ziva home. She is in great health and all up to date on her shots. Pet City even paid our first vet check.
Glad I got my boy out of there 3 1/2 years ago, place is a dump. He has a scar on his head from when i got him he had a large wound on top of his head. And he was also deaf which they never mentioned, Due to him being a Double Merle, (caused by irresponsible breeding which is known to lead to birth defects, google it) just more proof they are negligent and should not be handling animals. All that being said, I love my sweet Falkor and we have learned to cope with his impairment. I hate to think what might have happened to him if they did know he was deaf or to any of his littermates that may have been deemed unsellable
So I wont sugarcoat it, this place used to be DISGUSTING. It was like the poster child for why pet stores need tu be a thing of the past. Always smelled horrible, super filthy, with sickly sad looking animals at ridiculous prices. I dont know happened in the last year, but things have definitely changed. We decided to look into getting a puppy for Christmas. We had NO intentions of ever purchasing an animal from Pet City, I just went in to get some mealworms. Well, the place looked like a Petsmart! Spotless clean, smelled nice, good looking animals that appeared properly cared for, and both the guys on staff were nice and personable. Then we looked at the puppies. All seemed in good health and spirits, clean cages, and all their prices were roughly half of anything wed ever seen in there. We fell in love with an Aussie heeler. They allowed us to pay half and then pay the rest a week later when we picked him up. Our vet gave him a full bill of health and 5 months later hes awesome! So in summation, the place aint that bad anymore. Id say go in and give em a chance.
I worked with Steve to purchase an adorable 9-week old golden doodle. He was helpful and responsive. The store held the dog for 24 hours so I could come after work the next day. My son is allergic to most dogs, so Steve worked with the owner to allow me a 5-day window to return the dog if my son, Aiden, couldnt handle him (with a $25/day fee, which I think is eminently reasonable). Id figured if I got Bob (my sons choice for the dogs name) home and gave him a good bath, Aiden would be fine. I was right. The photo is me and Bob. This terrific dog was only $800 (a steal for this type of dog).
Everyone who says this crap about the puppymills is lying. the owners here are wonderful and caring and i could not believe that they would be a part of that. the puppies here are always in good spirits and are healthy. steve has an incredible amount of knowledge about reptiles and i trust him over anyone when it comes to my ball python. i will never go anywhere else and i am so happy they are in business.
I have never been into a worse place. The smell that smacks you in the face when you walk in the door is nauseating. The store it self is UN-organized and clutter laying everywhere. Their puppies for sale are $450-$500 and are locked in tiny glass cages with what looked like urine soaked towels. I felt SO bad for these poor animals. On their website they claim to have a play area for the pets but in reality its a 4ft by 4ft box with glass walls they they use just to show you an animal not let them play. Some of these tiny boxes had more than one dog in them as well. This place should be shut down for sure. I literally held my breath and ran out to get fresh air. No doggie should live like that :( The humane society of Huron Valley is SO much better and their animals are treated with the love and care they deserve.
I came here just to look and fell in love with all the puppies they had! They were all playing with each other an being so lively, and had a lot interaction with the people working there. They had four of the most CUTEST Pomeranians I had ever seen an left with my very own girl Pom that day named Alice, she is in a great health an is the most adorable thing you could ever imagine! Pretty sure she is close to a teacup pom but she wasnt sold as one, and was a great price! I would of paid 1,000 for her hahaha.
I have lived in the area for the past 3 years; An Employee there Steve is a great guy that has alot of knowledge when it comes to reptiles; he helped me get through some feeding issues I had with my snake. His help would be greatly appreciated when I had to have a certain kind of mouse for my very picky eater. Im a fan of supporting small business over corporate monopolies, Pety City is a great choice. They have many different puppies that they let out towards closing time, so its great to go in there and get your puppy therapy. We just bought a American Eskibull puppy from them 3 weeks ago; he is healthy as ever, and very well mannered. Meghan is a great help when she calls to check in on him and see how we are all doing with training. She has many great tips on training habits, and deals on vaccinations. I would recommend them to anyone who needs advice on the care of their pets, or looking to add a puppy to their life.
Nice folks at Pet City Pets. We purchased a Cockapoo from Pey City Pets in Ypsilanti. Very friendly and helpful. We followed up with an exam at a local Vet office, the puppy was healthy with the exception of a minor ear infection which Pet City Pets reimbursed for the treatment.
I did an internship program here and although the place doesnt have a welcoming odor, thats mainly because of the pets going to the bathroom because WE ALL GOTTA POO! I enjoyed my time working there temporarily and I would recommend going here to most people in Ypsi. Not to stuck up, bourgeoisie folk from Ann Arbor (especially the scorned women that I find the majority of the unfriendly reviews written by). If you can handle the smell of dog and cat scat combined and are looking for a pet, visit here. The staff are gracious (if you respect them like human beings) and the owner is an all-around great guy. Please ignore these ignorant one to two star reviews, written by cherry-picking, upper class, purse-dog wielding female dogs. Thank you.Note: if you organize every review from lowest to highest score, pretty much all the bad reviews are written by women XDDont expect these gals to give you much respect from day one. (Especially the *****es that use the dog snapchat filter)
Decides to return home in the comfort of his own bed as two puppies will be passing away through the night due to Parvo. This place personally feels that they can treat Parvo themselves. This is called animal abuse! Google it! They have recently been raided due to an ethical practices, dirty facility etc.
If it is true that they buy puppies from puppy mills, and I have it on good authority that they do, that is reason enough to never enter the store again until it stops that cruelest of all practices. It is stores like this that keep puppy mills going. Both should be closed down.
They sell puppy mill dogs. If you dont know what a puppy mill is, google it and prepare to be horrified and sickened. And if (more like when) your puppy gets sick due to the horrid conditions they were born in (and the suffering their parents went through, and go through, and go through), Pet City will not refund you the money you paid for the puppy or help with the vet bills. STAY AWAY. There are puppies galore in countless animal shelters and rescue groups. If you want to save a puppy, go to one of those places. By buying a puppy from Pet City, youre not going to be helping or saving the puppy youre buying, because as soon as your cash is in their register, theyll have yet another puppy mill puppy taking the one you boughts place.
They are not as good as I thought in the beginning, I purchased a puppy from them and it turned out that she has some mental issues and when I contacted them about the issues, they told there was nothing that they could for me. So I guess the guarantee doesnt mean anything!
Pet City Pets has always been worse than a dump. I have lived here for 30 years and if I had of thought I would have kept a record of the filth that I have witnessed every time I had gone in there. I have kept small animals before and when I bedded them I used shavings of one sort or the other and when I first went in there all of the rodents were in 2 of feces and the place reeked of urine. That was years ago and since then I decided that I would go in there just to keep track of the conditions and every time it has been filthy with some form of feces and urine. The store always stinks and is just plain nasty. It is a little store and it is a very old store and the people that own it are just trying to make a living but off the people in that community. That is wrong. The community has been struggling for years and they tell you that their puppies come from local breeders. That is not completely the truth. They do have people that are breeding those puppies for them. And those places are as filthy as the store. They also purchase some of their puppies from those horrendously abusive Puppy Mills where the adult dogs live in conditions that a rat wouldnt find acceptable. Those adult puppy mill breeder dogs are suffering unimaginable torture every single day of their little lives. It is sickening. It upsets me to think that this man Stewart who owns the store would think that selling these puppies from these abused breeder dogs is fine and to his customers that he is so dedicated to that he will match them up with the right puppy? Yeah right. The only thing that he is interested in is making money. And he is doing that. Off of those unsuspecting people who go into his store looking to add a cute member to their family in the form of a breathing living creature being a puppy. This is still not right. These people dont know where these puppies are coming from. He tells them from local breeders. What they do not know is the torture that the parent dogs are going through in order for him to make that special match for your family. A lot of people do not realize what Puppy Mills are and of course the store owners are not going to tell you the truth. It is all about the money.I would think that after all of these many years anyone with a good heart would get tired of lying to those friendly community people who trust him for being the nice guy that they think he is. How can anyone go to bed at night knowing how many people they have taken advantage of just to make a few dollars. And then to think of the conditions that those breeder dogs are suffering through just to provide him to sell in his store those dear sweet family type puppies. I dont understand how anyone can run their business and thus their life knowing that they have taken advantage of the community that his stores are in. I just dont understand how anyone can be as heartless as this man is. Or anyone that purchases puppy mill puppies.

2021-06-30Very please with my recent purchase from Pet City! We bought Dixie a month and a half ago and she is a great dog. Healthy & friendly! When we went in to look for a dog, the cages were clean, the dogs were fed and had water.I do believe they have upped their practices here after issues in the past.Absolutely recommend.

2022-05-29We purchased our mini Aussiedoodle puppy here in early April. We went in on a whim and did not do our research on this place beforehand which we should have. While we love our dog very much, we do believe this pet store to be negligent as our puppy came home sick and has been sick since we got her. Conveniently when we took her to the veterinarian the pet store recommended she had a clean bill of health even after we expressed our concern about the things we had noticed during the first few days after bringing her home. We took her to our local vet after a few more days to get a second opinion and thank goodness we did because she in fact was unwell like we had suspected. She has been on medication for about a month now and we have racked up hundreds in vet bills already. Like I said, we love our dog and would never want to return her to the pet store, but they should be held responsible for their negligence in caring for these puppies. Even when adopting a dog from a shelter the pups are well cared for and checked for all kinds of sickness before they are allowed to go home with a family. We paid over a grand for a sick dog and thankfully have a wonderful vet but I want to make sure that others know what they are in for when purchasing a pet from this pet store.***Update*** Our vet suggested we get a DNA test done to see if our pup was at risk of any genetic disease causing mutation. Glad we did it because she is at risk for several and we found out she isn’t only poodle and Australian Shepard like we were told but she’s also 25% cocker spaniel and 25% American Shepard…something to keep in mind if you’re looking here for a particular breed.

2018-03-15This is the ONLY pet store in this area that Im aware of (& Ive been to them all); that sells Call of The Wild cat food. It is the ONLY BRAND that Ill feed my cat because its ALL NATURAL, NO GRAINS, NO FILLERS, NO BY-PRODUCT OF FOOD OR ANIMALS, NO GMO, ETC.; & is extremely reasonably priced. While I realize that other stores such as Petco, Pet Smart, Target, Meijer, etc do sell other natural cat food; NONE of them sell this brand. In addition to that, & equally as important to me, is that it is LOCALLY-OWNED & NOT a corporation. Given the option, I will ALWAYS SUPPORT LOCALLY OWNED 1ST. They know me, my children, & most importantly our cat!

2020-03-09I just brought home a lovely little lady from Pet City Pets. She looks healthy, nourished, and well cared for. I dont know what theyve been through, sounds like a lot. I met decent, hard working, kind people running the store. It was clear to me that they are doing what they can to improve. Were very happy with our Evie, and they made the sale process easy to understand and clear.

2019-04-06Great place! They have an awesome variety of animals and the staff was extremely helpful! Went in because Ive been unsuccessful at switching my ball python from live to frozen. They recommended I buy live and thump them. Sure enough, within 5 minutes, my ball was swallowing his first animal in months! Thank you guys so much!
