Comment: If you need sewer lateral work done in Oakland, go with Pipe Spy. Other companies in the area test the whole sewer lateral for failure, and quote you for a full replacement (replace each coupling). Pipe Spy, on the other hand, tested each cleanout to our house individually, and determined that only 2 of the 4 cleanouts couplings needed to be replaced. This saved us money on the replacement work, and it lowered the number of areas where concrete rework was required (although the concrete work ended up looking very nice and not as noticeable as I had imagined).On top of that, my main contact with them, James, was great to work with and got back to me when I had questions very quickly. The teams that came out to do the work were also very good. They were happy to answer questions and they did the work efficiently. The City and EBMUD inspection portions passed without a hitch.Highly recommended.

Comment: Weve used Pipe Spy for 20+ years on and off. They never fail to be honest and professional! This past week we felt they went above and beyond. We made an appointment for a maintenance clean out, since weve had problems before, and I spoke to Alex in the office, who was wonderful and helpful, and he gave me an appointment the next day, which was fine at the moment. Then my husband and I went outside so he could show me where the clean outs are, and realized that we had a severe sewer backup which we didnt know about, and it was all over our yard. I called Alex back and asked him if he could send someone out right away. He got back to me very rapidly and sent Sonny out here within an hour. Sonny was amazing!! He has worked at Pipe Spy for many years, and we felt that we were in the best of hands. He did his thing, was kind, honest and professional and super knowledgable! We were assuming that it was going to be a super expensive and big job with new pipes and all, since another company some years ago told us our pipes were bad, which turned out to be bogus, he was just trying to sell us something. Sonny made the video and reassured us that all looked fine and that we should either have them come out yearly as maintenance or make sure to run water down the clean out every so often. Comment: Very professional company. James came out to assess the project (trenchless sewer line) and gave me an estimate which I thought was very reasonable. About a week and a half later Pedro and his crew came out and finished the sewer line in a day and a half. They kept my water line open for nearly the whole time and left the area as clean as when they started each day. It began to rain the second day, and with rain in the forecast, they said they would be back in a few days to re-pave the street, which they did. The final bill was about $300 more than the original estimate due to permits and inspections, which I was fine with. They must have good connections with the city because they got all permits ahead of time and the inspectors were here each day on time, making the project run smoothly and on time. I would highly recommend this company for a trenchless sewer line. They did a fantastic job from start to finish. Thanks Pipe Spy!

Comment: I had Roto Rooter clean our sewer lateral and they found excessive tree roots in the line and recommended that I have a camera inspection done. Roto Rooter completed the inspection and recommended that I replace the sewer lateral at a cost in excess of $37K. I asked if I could obtain a copy of the camera inspection and they wanted to charge an additional $750 for the copy which I declined.I called Pipe Spy to conduct a camera inspection at a cost of $200 and Id receive a digital copy of the inspection. Upon completion of the inspection, they recommended that I routinely have the line rooted out but replacement would not be required if the maintenance was completed on a regular annual basis. Im sold on Pipe Spy and intend to utilize their services regularly going forward! My complements to Pipe Spy and their technician Sunny!

Comment: Sooo, my house was gutted in a fire started in a trailer in the neighbors driveway. Applying for a building permit from the City of Berkeley has been a 21 month nightmare!! At the very end of the permit process the city demanded a sewer lateral inspection, (something I am told usually occurs at the end of the build). My contractor said he had to apply for god knows what before he could hire a plumbing company to take of this. Enter PipeSpy whom I remembered put in a trenchless sewer many many years ago. They kept us informed when, as sometimes happens, ancient plumbing installations presented an interesting plumbing puzzle.They do NOT do general plumbing - and have been clear about that.They are not the cheapest (several years ago we put a bid out for bid on a rental unit - so this may be dated information - I was impressed then with Sammy’s clarity of the terms and boundaries of the job he was willing to do. So much so, that when I purchased a single family home and needed to do the laters there I called up Sonny and had him come take a look. Working with Sonny (both times) has been great. Hes prompt, he replies to every message you send and he will come out personally to walk you through the scope of work and answer any questions you might have about the work, the process, etc. Our crew was here for two days and was headed up by Walter -- another really fantastic guy. They came out twice to help us prepare for the pressure test with EBMUD and finally discovered that our property was exempt from the sewer certification requirements. Comment: Two gentleman from this company came to do some work near my residence. Three weeks prior the city came out and worked on the sewer on the street outside, but put the manhole cover back in such a way that cars driving it over it now made it thud. City refused to help or even acknowledge the issue! I saw the two Pipe Spy guys, ran out, and let them know what was happening. They knew exactly what I was talking about, were super friendly, and made sure the cover now does not thud when cars go over it. I couldnt be happier! Very professional and polite!

They were a pleasure to deal with and offer an important service at a reasonable price.While repairing a redwood deck, the sewer clean-out was uncovered and it seemed like a good time to inspect the lateral. A quick phone call to Pipe Spy and Alex was able to schedule an inspection in just a few days, which was very helpful in not slowing down the deck contractors work.Heiko arrived on schedule, did the video inspection and showed us what he was finding on the video screen. As suspected, the original 100 year-old terra cotta sewer lateral had several displacements and one collapsed section. Heiko provided a detailed estimate the next morning via email and we returned the signed estimate via email, too.The trenchless replacement was scheduled promptly and completed in one day. Due to the depth of the city sewer line, it took the crew longer than expected to uncover that connection. They also had to dig another hole to uncover the collapsed section of the lateral. This required the crew to partially dismantle a stone path.The trenchless replacement process itself is fascinating. After the new lateral was in place and connected, the Pipe Spy crew did an excellent job of filling all the excavated dirt and restoring the stone path.They cleaned up carefully and left the path and yard looking undisturbed. A video inspection and pressure test were completed the next day and took less than an hour.Alex, Heiko, and all of the Pipe Spy folks we met were friendly and professional. The were good at communicating price and schedule, they arrived on-time, and stayed until the job was finished. Comment: Pipe Spy replaced the sewer lateral at my house last week. They did it trenchless pipe and our landscaping wasn’t disturbed at all. I would give them 10 stars if that was an option!Their estimate was fair. Maybe slightly higher than one other. But you get what you pay for! The quality of their work was exceptional. The crew was on time, super efficient, and super clean. I’ve NEVER seen a contractor clean as they went along, and leave the job so spotless at the end of the day. And I noticed that they were so skilled and well coordinated as a team that they barely had to talk to each other while working (it’s noisy work, opening the street and sidewalk etc) and all of the guys stayed on task every moment. I was a construction manager for 20 years so I have a lot to compare, and Pipe Spy is the best Contractor I’ve ever seen.

Comment: Hard to believe that I didnt call Pipe Spy years ago when problems started with the lateral line. I would have saved myself much trouble and expense! They came out and EXPERTLY cleared the line. That was a relief. No longer and emergency situation. Then they took care of installing the new one in the same toally professional manner. Comment: Wed just moved into our apartment and began experiencing problems with the water heater and leaking pipes in the kitchen and bathroom. We called Pipe Spy and while they only offer sewer services, Paul came out and checked on things for us anyway. He was so knowledgeable and generous with the information he shared. He made sure we were safe and referred us to a local general plumber who came out the next day and fixed all the issues within a couple of hours. Were so grateful to have had him stop by.
