Cool gym. Terrible customer service and business acumen. Looooooong story short:I came into the club to cancel my membership and was told that all I had to do was give my info to the front desk clerk. They tapped a few keys and told me it was done. Months later I got a phone call from a collection agency saying that I owed them money and that my acct was in collections. I told them they that I had closed this account months earlier. They said no, this was never closed and they after sometime they gave it to us for collections. I called PH and they gave me the runaround for days and days and wouldnt give me the name of the person who is responsible for the accts. If you are looking for a gym beware if you choose this one. Manipulative factors at play here.
My experience here has been nothing but a joke. They lied about my monthly memberships, secondly there billing manager can’t even contact me & had the nerve to say I never called & asked for her once when I have called several times & there front desk said she’s really busy or her system was down or she’ll call me later. She didn’t even say our names correctly she called Donovan “David”. They didn’t even tell us about the towel fee? Scammers.
Good gym but be warned, the are many obstacles that may prevent you from having a good workout. I can’t go too deep into detail or else they’ll come for me. Other than that, there is a good atmosphere and a welcoming environment however the locker room smell is viscous. Dont say i didn’t warn you.
Run!!! Dont do it. Please if you are serious about a good place and people please dont join!! I tried to freeze my account because I moved and they didnt! Then hit with a 59.00 annual fee. If you move 2,000 miles away they will still keep charging you for any reason they can .
I signed a monthy contract and they did not even give me a copy of it. Management staff are not friendly, not professional. I just suggest to people who reading this - think twice about signing up there. Better pay a little bit more and work out somewhere else better. Peace 😇
I had called on 12/31/2021 to put a paused on my membership because I had tested positive for Covid . The guy I talked to said I have to come in or can write them an email. So I ended up emailing them since I can’t go in. Two days pass and still no response from them so I check my bank account and saw that my account was charged. I called back to the gym and was transferred to billing department. I left my name, number and explained the situation. Still no call back from anyone. I will not be returning to this place. I have a large group of friends who goes here as well and they all agree this place has poor communication skills and they will no longer support such business
So I’ve been going to this gym since august 2020 and it has some good and some bad. The bad would be poor customer service. They never have the tvs on even on football sunday like what’s up with that. The a/c in the summer sucks and so does their cleaning and the worst of them all is they do not allow guest and the one time they were going to let me they said they would charge me $20 for a week so they are very money hungry. The good would be the their equipment.
Absolute worst customer service Ive ever experienced in my entire life. I met a lifelong friend at the gym to play racketball as a guest and was turned away. No nowhere on their website does it say anything about guests not being allowed. Matter of fact on their website in big bold letters it shows that day passes are available. If this was the last last gym on Earth I still would not come to it.
Brought my friend in to try the gym out for their “temporary promotion” of allowing guests to workout and try the gym out once. She was hesitant to join a new gym without trying it out at least once, which is why it’s a shame you took away guest/day passes. Sam, our salesman, was very pushy (too a point of unprofessionalism) and once she said she would like to take some time to think it over before joining he became very hostile and passive aggressive. He began interrupting, and even told us he shouldn’t have allowed her to workout for free. I am a member here and honestly, at this point not a proud one! Thanks.
This is my first time in my life I have ever written review like this.I want to cancel my membership, so I went there on July. The staff told me that instead of paying $180 to cancel my memership, I can keep my status until November. I came back December to make sure I can cancel it. The same lady, this time, she said Its November of 2022 ( which means Next Year). I feel like its unprofessional service. I wish she had made it more clearly for me on the first time I was there. Calling me Angle, idk what she means. I just feel really bad right now, I paid $180 and leave.
I am so sad to be leaving!! This has been one of my favorite gyms. I’ve been with Powerhouse for years, mostly in California, but the Novi Location has been exceptional! Brian signed me up and was so helpful and encouraging. I am going to miss it! I encourage anyone to check this gym out. It’s clean, spacious, has tons of equipment and you rarely have to wait for a machine, the clientele is nice and there are plenty of classes and activities here! Check it out! You won’t be disappointed!
This Facility was recommended by a friend, and I absolutely love this Gym. Its a one stop shop for me, I have everything I need inside this facility. I love the point system they have for check in, along with the friendly staff and clean facility. Also I love the women area as well that is the highlight I like the most.
Ive been to the Novi and West Bloomfield locations and both are nice and clean. The staff are always welcoming and professional. I usually prefer the Novi location because the Womens Only section is larger there (this is my favorite part of these gyms!). The 7.7 Nutrition services are great too. Polina is the best!
Very professional establishment. My first visit was top notch. I received a tour, got signed up for 1 free personal training and a free t-shirt.They set me up with an ID, key card and access to their online experience. My personal training session was fun and interactive. I had health assessments prior to getting started. I was introduced to the personal training cost but not the pushy sales pitch. The trainer also offered that I could him if I had questions.Last Friday I received a call advising that I qualified for a free session with a dietitian.I am still working to push myself to go. One deterrent is the travel time but I believe that I found my gym home.
Great culture. Best gym I’ve worked out at and best place I’ve ever worked at. State of the art exercise equipment, wide variety of classes, pool, basketball what more can you ask for. Ownership truly cares about making members and staff happy. Accessible and staffed 24 hours a day is a plus as well.
Ive been with this gym since 2011. I had planned on going everyday but my hours didnt allow me to. The last time Ive been to the gym was 2016 So on March 15 ,2020 my job closed down and I called the gym to cancel the lady told me that I cant cancel so I said why not this is not a membership you already got your money plus I havent been to the gym since 2016 ,and when I agreed to this the manager said that I can cancel at anytime. So now I cant cancel. I hung the phone up and called my bank to stop payment. Well the next day all gyms were closed. So today April 9th 2021 I get a collections letter. A balance due 378.90. Im trying to understand when you sign an agreement but its not a contract and you can cancel at anytime. I tried to cancel but they tell me I cant!! That sounds like an contract to me. I will NOT EVER EVER GIVE A GOOD REASON WHY ANYONE SHOULD GO TO THIS LOCATION OR ANY LOCATION IF THEY ARE NOT BEING HONEST WITH YOU. VERY VERY BAD COMMUNICATION!! ITS A Pandemic
Any fitness interest you have you will find here. Basketball to Yoga. Free weight area and froup classes. Most gyms dont have a full pool to go with the hot tub and sauna. I dont use the daycare or restaurant but its available. All reasonably priced. As fitness nut I appreciate a clean facility that offers it all.
Went there once and it wasnt a pleasant experience with this gym management. Never had any issue with any other powerhouse gym. Been a member of Powerhouse for almost 2 years and this was a first casual visit with my family and I was attacked by a staff member who just was rude and unfriendly to say the least. Been a strength and conditioning coach for almost 10 years and walked-in to many gyms around the world; by far, this staff member is the worst !!!! Totally regret going to this location !!! This staff member needs to get himself educated in customer management and friendly service
I spoke with the staff in December of 2019 about possibly joining but voiced that due to just having surgery I was not ready to join. In February 2020 I called & emailed that I was not going to join. I have never been in the gym or signed a contract. There was no activity on my bank account until September 2020. All of the sudden the gym started withdrawing money. Totalling over $300 in less than a months time. Staff confirms I have never signed a contract or been in the gym but refuse to refund the money claiming I still have a membership. Multiple attempts to contact management have failed. No return phone calls or responses to emails. Staff is now hanging up on me when I call.
Correction... Extremely rude & belligerent staff.Disgusting health club, dirty & not kept up...Needs new management.... Sam the manager is very rude & pushy... They do not know how to run a health club...Stay away...!!!Worst gym ever in my life...!!!Totally a Horeshit gym.....!!!Horrible....Seriously, health violation... (oakland county)...
Im so obsessed with this gym! I love that the owner has invested in tons of hygienic upgrades that make me feel safe to come in. Everything is clean and there’s a ladies only area. The locker rooms are super spacious and also very clean. The showers are nice and roomy so you’re not bumping the walls those you’re trying to get clean. Every time I go, I see at least 3 staffs just cleaning. I’m working with a trainer Yianni and he’s been excellent. Super motivational attitude without being insincere. The vibe is very , “I’m working out at my friend’s place” not like a place you pay to go to. I can’t wait to experience this place when all of the amenities are available(pool, sauna ) once we are a little more out of the corona woods. Also the price per month is not much more that a certain $20 a month gym that could never give the experience you get here.
Powerhouse, is a fantastic gym. I know I am speaking for a lot of my fellow members but the new short term membership that allows people access to the club who might not have access to a gym yet, is honestly frustrating. I worked out yesterday evening and there were people absolutely everywhere, people not wiping down machines, being careless, etc. The new influx of members has become more of a danger while the risk of spreading COVID maximizes. I know the gym said they would implement safety measures for cleanliness but I saw 1 person walking around and she was not doing much. It has become a major concern for a lot of members. Trust me, I am a business man and I get that side of the idea to attract more members while their gyms are closed but it is really pissing off several members. There needs to be a better way of going about this and the staff need to have a better attitude.
Great gym just wish it was open 24/7 as advertised. Have been told it’s due to staffing issues but when I found 7+ people wanting to work weekends to keep the gym open and they weren’t hired I feel like it’s just not something they want to do. I’ll change my review if they go back to 24/7 like I said great gym just tough to use it on weekends
The staff is very friendly and the cafe options and plans are decent in pricing and options. However... everything else deserves one star. The staff is friendly yes, but rarely attend to members. Broken saunas occur regularly due to lack of general maintenance and part replacements. Machines are broken for the same reasons and also irresponsible members(many of them). Ive also seen a personal trainer use the restroom and skip washing their hands proceeding to help a trainee stretch. Gross! Also, the pricing... It is terrible for what you get. The amenities are plentiful but the quality is missing. Sauna is always gross, showers only run on BURNING HOT, basketballs are years old and deformed, classes are frequently rescheduled or canceled. Even so, if you get locked into a contract, you may freeze your account but they will continue to take payments out, and youll receive a refund after your account expires. I have the option to take from my direct account to apply a $5 monthly discount but theyve yet to apply it although Ive asked twice about this. Do not go to this gym if you want a clean, healthy gym that keeps you motivated and satisfied with where you choose to put your money and health into. Pick a smaller local gym whose owners are in everyday and know the individuals!!!!
Favorite Gym in Michigan, Hands Down! There is no comparison honestly. Ive personally had them all... Planet fitness, LA, Lifetime, Anytime, etc. No gym besides Powerhouse offers 24 Hour Access, Pool, Sauna, Hot tub, Classes, Basketball, Racquetball, Tanning, Hydro-massage Chairs, and a Womens Only Section for a monthly price of $34.99!!!Also, I have never seen more fit men and women at any gym like Novi, its truly motivating! If you are looking for that perfect gym that is affordable, that will motivate & push you... Powerhouse Novi is it!
It’s a pandemic, I wanted to put membership on hold. They want 5 bucks a month to not use the gym. So I said we want to cancel. They wouldn’t cancel over the phone. Said we had to come IN PERSON during a PANDEMIC during “normal business hours” even though they are a 24 hour gym. Then they said cancellation takes 30 days, so we’re on the hook for next months renewal AND improvement fees to a gym we haven’t been to since early March. I’m not going back even after it’s safe after all of this.
Great gym. Love that it has 24hr access.2 stars is because the gym will rip you off for a buck. Due to closing because of the pandemic, membership was put on hold. I signed a document to not renew my membership in September. Gyms opened back up in September. I can no longer go to this gym because I do not work or live in the area which is why I was canceling.POWERHOUSE NOVI decided to extend my membership without my knowledge or permission to make up for the money they lost out on. I’m on the hook to pay for a membership I can’t even use.Excellent job POWERHOUSE NOVI!!
I work out at Powerhouse daily. Filled with a mix of serious bodybuilders, bro lifters, casual fitness and once a week gym goers. It is a nice gym at a great price. It is a high traffic gym, expect to wait during peak evening times.Staff does a really good job keeping this place clean.I would rate 5 stars, However maintenance lately has been lacking. I am seeing machines that are taking months to repair ( leg extension machine). The one water bottle filling station is broken down at least once a week. Expect the roof to leak during heavy rains. Again this gym sees a lot of traffic. Normal wear and tear needs to be stayed on top of.Also If you are looking to play basketball on certain days at peak times. you cant because they hold a Zumba Class there for 1.5 hours on some days.
Update: they let me freeze temporarily. Nice gesture. How come they charge monthly membership fees when my families are scared to go there because no one is wearing a mask. Please stop charging or have everyone wear masks or close the gym, please. How do you know the gym is not spreading viruses.
Be careful of what you sign in the contract. They have a club enhancement fee charged annually in Jan. Even you cancel it a day after, you will need to pay the fee. I cancelled my membership a week after that date so I paid two year enhancement fee with one year gym membership. I called them with no expectation of getting a refund, but their manager was just blaming me of not using their membership for longer so my club enhancement fee was wasted. Why my personal reason of cancelling a membership became a fault? Does it make sense that I have to live in one place for a gym membership? The gym couldnt charged enhancement fee monthly? I am not saying the gym has to charge it monthly (that will make their monthly fee look bad I understand), but at least they should have a manager can speak logically or being a nice person that tries to help a customer. Two stars off for the manager, one star off for the contract. Two stars remain for the pool only. Equipment is pretty okay for the price.
Amazing! So many options, fabulous staff, the ability to bring my kiddo, clean facility nice sized pool and jacuzzi, locker rooms are fabulous and the fact that the key card works for the lockers is genius and convenient for Not having to buy a lock and bring it with me
This gym is phenomenal accross the board, clean, employees are friendly, and large enough to get a workout in regardless of how many people are there. Ive been working out consistently for almost 15 years, have had memberships at almost a dozen gyms and visited maybe 100 more over that time period and this one is easily the best Ive ever seen.
I would recommend staying away from Powerhouse. I have a similar story to others unfortunately... I was a member and liked the gym for the most part (overpriced for what it is, but not bad). My membership was ending in March 2015 and i was in the process of moving across state. I had gone in and talked to a sales member to let them know that i was moving and wanted to make sure my membership didnt auto renew since i was moving and would not longer be able to come here. I was told that none of their memberships auto renew and they made a note in my account and not to worry as well as good luck with my new house - sounds great right. Moving forward i had three $30 charges on my account accompanied by a $60 equipment fee (was able to get this fee reversed). I spoke with the manager of the gym and explained my situation... obviously rather than listen to me she immediately told me i was crazy and no way one of me employees would do that. She then told me that technically they do not have auto renewals but once your membership ends it goes to month to month unless you let them know (which i did!). It finally turned into a he said she said situation of dealing with a pretty dumb person so i decided to just bite the bullet and move on. All in all just shady. There are much better gyms in the area for the same or less cost.
I love the variety of classes and the womens only area of machines. The pool and the hot tub are great after a good workout. Showers and locker area is always nice and clean, but the best part is my trainer, Yianni who is not only quite knowledgeable, but is very kind and understanding.
Really good gym near perfect. only thing is missing a lot of variety in bumper plates. Has 45 plates as far as the eye can see, but only 2 35s and no 25s whick sucks for progression training. 4 of each 35,25,10 bumper plates in the dead lift area would go such a long way. gyms great only small complaint i have.
Well this place is huge! They have everything from a basketball court to a pool. Lots of very dedicated folks at this location and it shows. The guest fee is $20 and you have to give all kinds of info to get in. Then they drive you crazy after with e-mails and phone calls. I am a member at another gym, but was in the area so I tried it . A lot of room and a lot of equipment. The free weight section is probably the smallest area, but still good. If I lived closer, I would happily be a member here. There is also a physical therapy place inside that people raved about.
As a competitor & fitness model who represented(s) PH Gym Novi, I can say this is hands down the most professional gym with amazing staff and equipment. I have been a member for the past 10+ years and Will has always made sure this location leads the state in setting the bar high.
The gym has an excellent variety of services for members. From free classes to personalized training to therapy, theres something for everyone. The gym is always clean and even on the busiest days, there are enough machines to get your workout in. This all contributes to an atmosphere that encourages you to keep coming back regularly for your workout. Im so glad I joined this gym! It has definitely been the best decision Ive made in 2018 so far.
Versatile group of people who work out at the gym from beginners to pros who appear to accept each other, the rules are bold and prominent so everyone understands and I truly believe they are enforced, I like that they have any type of equipment you may need from cables to ropes to that thigh cardio machine. I also LOVE the smooth transition from the gym, locker room, shower, to pool. It makes it effortless to get any type of workout that interest you that day and makes it fun to know there is variety and keeps me coming back. The class instructors are fun, energetic, and truly give you a great workout. Overall, very happy with this gym. I choose to drive past many gyms that are closer to me to workout at powerhouse because they dont compare. Also, thanks to the staff for always saying hi and bye to me when coming and going. I love this gym!
Overall good gym. Very clean shower and pool area. I would like to see older equipment maintenanced more as some seating surfaces are deteriorating on weight equipment and stretch benches. Also they should consider removing the carpeted areas in the locker room as it creates moisture and mold eventually. Staff is knowledgeable and really friendly. Cost is competitive with surrounding gyms also.
Powerhouse is a great gym with all of the right equipment. There is a range of people from casual treadmill-walkers to big weightlifters. There is even a womens only upper floor, if you feel intimidated about exercising around the big guys. The locker rooms are very clean, and have a great key system, so you dont need to pay to rent lockers or bring your own padlock. The free weights and dumbbells tend to be pretty disorganized and you have to search for the correct weight, but thats really not a big deal. The only complaint that I have is the girls working at the front desk. Every time I walk in they are on their phones, and seem to find that more important than scanning my card. Ive had to wait for a girl to finish her text message! As far as gyms go, this is a good one. The hidden fees that people are talking about are the bi-annual membership fees that you are informed of upon signing up for a membership. The fees are 2x your monthly fee. So, for one person thats $60 twice a year. Not bad in comparison to surrounding gyms and for the equipment that is provided. Also, when you sign up you get 1 hour of free personal training!
Enjoy using the club but was extremely offended by the lack of appropriate mask covering by both the front desk and smoothie staff today. I actually needed help and the person didn’t bother to cover their nose. Lady at smoothie stand didn’t have mouth covered. I do know there’s a glass barrier in that area but you are interacting with food! Step it up please. I know things are getting better but we can still infect each other.
I have my kids going to Power House for the past 4 years! Every year I have to deal with double charges or overage charges on my account. When calling to discuss it with the manager, the manager doesnt have the time to speak with you, but will make you wait until they find the time to call, and if you dont follow up, they will not call most of the time, until you call again. When you become lucky to reach that manager, she speaks with you and seems solve it, but if you dont pay attention to your bank account, youll be ripped by this facility. I dont want to worry about my account no more, and Im searching for a better gym facility, a place that I wont have to worry about adding my bank information with them.
The staff is friendly and helpful, especially in the pro shop. The facility is clean. I find that sometimes I have too many choices on what to do for a workout, but writing it down before I get there is helpful. Other than the rope climbing machine, I have not have do wait to use any equipment. The equipment is well maintained. I dont use the child care so cannot comment on that. The snack bar is filled with great food choices.
What I, personally like about powerhouse Gym is that they conduct different classes. Right from different types of yoga, Pilates, zumba, barre.Would like to recommend doing Yin Yoga with Belinda!! She is awesome! The way she teaches yin yoga and sense of peace ☮️ and calm. Good vibes after her class.I would recommend everybody to take atleast one Yin Yoga class with Belinda!!! She is too good at her work.
Trying to be whatever you say you need to get you to sign up, then switch up and dont let you out of contract. When the manager promises to help and make some phone calls for you, she doesnt return calls and messages for over a month. I put in a cancel membership request due to loss of proper equipment, sudden implementation of no chalk, and my trainer leaving (taking his equipment with him). Still continued to be charged over a month later and have not received any call back. Ive called 5 times, left messages each time and even drove 45 minutes to speak and leave message in person. Horrible business practices. They are just out to scrounge every nickel and dime out of you without a care. Expect you to hold up your end of the contract when they didnt hold up their end and put on a false show when signing up. Extremely disappointed. As a small business manager, I did not want to make any public complaints, but after a month, I am extremely frustrated and upset with their ways of business. Find a local gym that isnt so commercial and money hungry to support...maybe then you will mean something as a person to them.
Update Dec 18 2016: spoke with Jackie who gave me a straightforward, reasonable price, and added back a star.Update Dec 17 2016: downgraded a star after calling in about renewing a membership and being reminded of the frustrating process. Apparently, they couldnt just resume my membership for a couple weeks; that would have been too hard. Also, have you noticed how many of the 5-star reviews are anonymous? The weights were often not re-racked properly, but its improved a lot lately. The gym is too packed at peak times. Very good equipment selection. As for the cafe onsite, Im very happy with the food quality (healthy) and variety.
I like the facilities. I have been here twice in the last week (first time going to this gym in months) and not a single worker has said a work to me besides the lady working at the food counter who I ordered something from. Workers actually seem pretty caught up in talking to their coworkers. Courtesy is not something that the employees seem to understand. This includes the personal trainers who seem very standoffish. The good news is that I love the facilities and equipment and the basketball court so that makes the gym great.
Im not sure what services you are referring to, but the Hammer Strength and Life Fitness equipment are superb! I have loved Hammer Strength for about 25 to 30 years now. I also think the aerobic equipment is nice. I havent had an opportunity to try the yoga and kickboxing classes yet, but I am looking forward to trying them. I would like to add that the staff is quite friendly. No matter what time I arrive to the gym they are always pleasant and friendly. I also like the fact that they are a 24/7 gym.
After switching from Lifetime Fitness, this place is what I need. I dont need all the bells and whistles that LTF had. The membership price is more attractive than paying $80 per month. I love that its open 24 hours. It has all of the equipment I want to get through my exercises. The membership specialist hooked me up and not paying an astronomical amount to join. I read on other reviews that they had a hidden fee which is the maintenance fee - he mentioned that, so I was happy about that. The only thing I have bad to say are the locker rooms smell like feet. I can understand due to the carpet in the locker room.Overall, its a great gym facility for the price. The busy hours are around 5-8pm Monday-Thursday. So, if youre okay with sharing in between sets with someone, those are the times to go. lol
Worst gym ever. Expensive and use pressure tactics to enroll you in. Be careful. They will not give you pricing over the phone. They will set an appoint for visit to show your facility and then pressure you to join in on the same day. They have a laminated pricing card where the agent will strike off pricing and give you a deal. The only thing is that is the standard price I have checked with other members and then will pressure you to sign as the price is valid only on the same day. They are frauds.
One the best gyms in MI I live in bellville and make the drive about twice a week to enjoy state of the art equipment, cleanliness, and good people. All the weights and treadmills you could ask for. Pool, hoopcourt. Upstairs you can do classes. And whatever the #$%# else you wanna do. If you live in novi join this gym. Nowhere else compares. No bs. Anddddd its 24 HRS. What more could you want.
My first impression of the gym was that more effort could have gone into cleaning. There was a ton of equipment - free weights, power racks, treadmills, etc. There is only one basketball court, which is generally crowded. Most of the time there are way too many people which makes working out very difficult. The staff is unhelpful and under qualified. The managers are pushy salespeople that try to lock you into long contracts; they do not try, nor care, to help find the best option for each member.Because each Powerhouse is a franchise, these specific owners are not willing to work with current powerhouse members in other cities.I suggest considering other options closely before joining this gym.
I went in just to look at the gym and get a price. Was pressured and pressured until I got a membership which I never used. They even used GUILT about my health. What a joke. Also When I said the price was a bit high I was told look around it is a 12 million dollar facility. Like Im supposed to be impressed, well far from that I assure you. I would never go back and will not go into any gym as I am sure they all are high pressure. Glad I am back in Livonia and have a membership to the Rec Center for a fraction of the price and I really dont care how much the facility cost. THIS PLACE SUCKS.
This is one of those “you get what you pay for” scenarios. I enjoy the gym and appreciate most of the equipment. The men’s sauna is great as long as there aren’t loud guys in there. I find the staff generally standoffish and unwelcoming. There are machines that are consistently broken down. So you get what you pay for. It isn’t Lifetime, and it isn’t trying to be.
Great gym. Loved being in the womens only section until I felt more comfortable. I have been training with Sam for the last 6 months and I am looking forward to another 6 months. Fees are very straightforward and simple. Explained when you sign up. The ladies that provide us with great smoothies and healthy delicious snacks are so friendly and welcoming. Love it here. 46 year old mom and very busy. Fits your schedule because they are open 24 hours. Love yoga now too. They have sauna and pool too.
They have a plethora of machines and free-weights, available trainers, a broad range of classes, quality locker rooms with showers and a sauna, a pool... Its pretty much the best civilian gym that I have ever been to.I was moving within 2 months of getting a membership, so management worked with me, waived my contract fee, and gave me 2 months at a reduced rate. Both the staff and members at this gym were very cooperative and friendly.
Great gym, however I was charged $10 for an apparently unreturned towel, at a location I never use a towel at. You have to #1 pay extra for towels and tanning, and then #2 get billed if the machine doesnt recognize your towel. There are employees walking around cleaning, but neglect to pick up towels for this exact reason. This is the kind of gym that just finds every way to make a dime.
They tricked me into a 18 month gym membership when it was just suppose to be a 2 month Groupon deal. My groupon shows it was used but the gym said they’re no Groupon it was just a 18 month commitment and if I want to cancel I’d have to pay hundreds of dollars to do so.Now that the 18 months is finally over theyre charging me month-to-month and have the nerve to charge me a LATE FEE when I lost my credit card and ordered a new one.I would never recommend this place to anyone!!! It’s worth it to pay a little extra at another gym for the customer service and honesty. Also, the bathrooms are at Powerhouse Novi are absolutely disgusting. I’ve seen little worms on the shower floor. All around horrible experience !!!
Your rewards program is great. The facility has ALMOST everything anyone would need, from athletes to the elderly. The lockerroom is clean most of the time. The machines are clean. Everything is nice. Would recommend adding more room in the turf area just for people trying to train for athletics and more water fountains.
The staff is extremely kind and very considerate of their patrons. The machines are top quality and most of the people that go to PHG are quite kind, even the bodybuilders and power lifters. This Gym has a strong community within it, and they do their best to make you feel like family.
They will not let me terminate my membership after trying for almost a year. Stuck in a gym with No access to the CrossFit equipment, or exercise rooms (I did when i joined), and 40 min drive from me. (i was unaware the location was franchised when I joined) Overall really nice gym but why am i being locked into a contract that I desperately don’t want to be in? Even if they could transfer me to a powerhouse closer to where I live that would be better but they refuse to let you quit. Giving a star for all other amenities & affordable price but it’s a pain in the butt trying to quit this place.
Pros:Good facility. Lots of dated, but well maintained weight training equipmentMembers. People are there to workout, most are aware when youre waiting on a piece of equipment, and are helpful and friendlyCons:Hot tub is never hotMembership is a SCAMI came in and explained to Harold that I was only in town for a month or two. He told me that as soon as I knew that I was leaving to let him know, and theyd stop charging me. LIE. Apparently, in the contract, which you cant read until youve signed it, and in VERY small print, is a note saying that you minimum commitment is FOUR months. Believe me, if I was told that, up front, I NEVER would have signed up. Very unprofessional not mentioning that when I EXPRESSLY stated that I would not be there that long. Four months and the activation fee, for ONE month of use. That was low.Secondly, the guest fees. Never, have I had a membership at a large gym, and had to pay a guest fee at another location. Now, for example, some locations at 24 Hour Fitness dont have many amenities and offer members the option of a lower rate at that location, or higher rate and access to all clubs. LA Fitness also offers the option of a lower rate and one club access, or a higher rate for access to all clubs. Powerhouse doesdiscount the fee 50% if you go to any another facility in the Michigan. So generous. NOT. I signed up at this location, as it was close to me, and had planned to use the other locations as I travelled around the state for work.Unless you are CERTAIN that you want to sign up for this specific location, or any other specific location in Michigan, and are CERTAIN that you want to commit for AT LEAST (4) months, do yourself a favor and go to LA Fitness, or any other gym.NOTE: Had difficulty stopping the monthly billing at the Louisville location, but they got it fixed and refund the extra charges.
I mainly signed up because of it being in a convenient location for me. They also have a ton of equipment. This is where the good stuff ends. its always overcrowded during the week, the majority of the staff are not friendly or willing to help (upon sign up, the staff ran through my contract and did not explain each hidden fee that would occur. I was charged $60 after just 10 days of signing up), and finally the locker room and showers are often in bad shape. 2/5 stars is about right.
Been a member of powerhouse gym before it even was powerhouse, so I have been locked in at $20.00 a month from the start and that price will never go up. Cant beat that especially with all the amenities. Its a great gym. Clean, lots of equipment, friendly staff and pretty good smoothie bar. The new arrangement of equipment does make certain areas more roomier. The only things I dislike about the gym are really nothing that can be fixed. 1) it can be overly crowded at times. I go every Saturday and Sunday morning and by the time I get there around 9:00-9:30 there are already too many people for my liking. 2) specific groups of older gym members that loiter around equipment and talk more than working out. Im not against socializing but damn, schedule a date at Dennys where you all can meet up to talk about Matlock and the latest prescription drug youre taking. And FFS, wear deoderant people. If you walk by me smelling like you have a handful of raw onions under each armpit you got problems.Thats all ;)
I am not impressed with member relations and resignation policy. Not a true month to month plan...beware of the contract and fine fine print!Your prepaid last month does not apply to your 30 day notice...so decline to prepay for you last month upfront cause they will just bill you for another one. Doesn’t make sense that you have to pay for 2 more months of a membership when you are dropping a month to month plan. Also the conversation with the management staff was horrible. Sealed the deal on canceling my membership. On a side note: I did like the Daycare staff and front desk staff.
Aggressive sales tricks, overcrowded area, and overpriced membership gives it 2 stars for the average gym rat. Consider membership only if you are looking for other body builders or are in search of a specific amenity they offer.Visited late one weekday with a friends guest pass and used the treadmill, machines, free weights, and sauna. The equipment layout is clustered and lacks organization. Theres a waste of space in the center of the gym and a haphazard sprint lane stretches between cardio equipment. The second floor has little to offer but there is a pool lane (2-3 person), a basketball court, and a punching bag which are a nice touch.I visited a second time with the same friend who had a 2nd guest pass to get a feel for the weekday traffic (~7pm). It was uncomfortably packed and I had to wait for spaces and machines to free up multiple times. The crowd was made up of generally fit and body builder types.I was most displeased by the staff, who charged me $20 for using guest pass a 2nd time and pressured me to sign up on the spot. I dont mind paying for a days use of the facility, but the staff member then kept my receipt and said he would return it alongside my ID when I turned in the guest card key.
I originally had a good experience buying the membership from Bobby. There were a few miscommunications that caused some frustration on the back end, but Joey the Sales Manager took care of me at the end of the day and that is what matters most. Great gym for a great price!
I am a member and have been for going on 3yrs. If i could justify paying $80/month to join Life Time Fitness I would join in a heartbeat. The staff is constantly on their phones or just walking around doing nothing. Free weights are scattered throughout the gym often times having to walk around looking for weights because the bench press racks are bare. The gym is ALWAYS busy. I was there at 11pm last night and still not able to use all of the equipment I wanted to because of people there yet they continue to bring in new members. Want to play bball? Forget it. Always full. ALWAYS. Where is the benefit to current members if the gym is already nearly full? It isnt. Its only beneficial to the owners. Its a money grab. For the Staff reading this: How many people are currently members? What is the membership goal? What is the capacity of the building? If you keep adding members but dont expand you are creating a horrible atmosphere. When I walk into a gym I should be happy and ready to take on a great workout, instead I dread coming in because I know I am going to be dealing with a bunch of bull.
I came to this gym for the first time with a friend, and it was pretty cool. There is a close knit community so if youre into that type of thing at your gym, then youll love powerhouse gym in Novi. Im not really into that type of stuff thats why Ill just stick to planet fitness but this is definitely a place for certain type of peoples.
If I could give this gym less than one star I would. Powerhouse Novi is by far the worst gym I have ever been a member of. The locker rooms/showers are disgusting, the equipment is extremely beat up and most of the weight plates on the barbells don’t match (pet peeve).. this gym was decent a few years ago but it has really gone down hill. There are a lot of gyms that give you a better value for the $30/month that you pay. Very unimpressed with this gym.. can’t wait to leave.
Back in June I called to cancel- lack of use. (They were continually shutting down the pool and locker rooms)She cancelled fees and suggested freezing the account until September when she would call about starting up again.I received billS in October.I called to clear it up.Laura was very rude and refused anything I said.SHE complained to me about declining membership but not having time to deal with membership issues.Screw them.I hear much better things about the NEW, clean West Bloomfield location. (Not that I would risk them cheating me too!)
BEWARE of this gym, it is a complete nightmare. After being charged an absurd amounts of hidden fees I cancelled my membership. This was over six months ago, and Im still getting periodic charges from them. I sorely regret letting them get my credit card information! The managers are rude, unintelligent, unethical, and dont have a single clue how to run a business or provide quality customer service. There are plenty of better places to work out in the area, DO NOT give Powerhouse your money!
Ive been enjoying my new gym, Especially the pool!!! Ive noticed an increase in my energy levels even after working a 10 hour shift in a very busy Emergency Center. Ive still been able to come workout.Rudy was my personal trainer when I started at the facility. He gave me helpful suggestions about dietary changes and increasing my cardio fitness.
Make certain you are aware of maintenance fees and having to cancel a month in advance, regardless of the length that you signed on for. I signed up for the summer membership through september and was not told that they would continue charging me at $40 a month after.Powerhouse Gym Novi hides their fees and once they get a hold of your bank account, will continue to make unauthorized charges.Overall, the gym was acceptable; however, discourteous members frequently abuse the equipment. Free weights seemed to constantly be broken from being dropped and there is an atmosphere where members feel it is okay to not clean up after themselves. The free weight area was a mess for my entire 3 months at the gym. There was no effort to organize the weights in any way. Several bench press bars were bent from members overloading the bars, rendering them useless. The locker room was nice and cleaned on a nightly basis. For what I paid for, I expected better. Shady business practices and broken equipment ruined it for me. I found Lifetime Fittness to be a far better gym for just $10 a month more (having a towel service is huge for me).
I had been a member for years and never had an issue with teh gym itself. I am very concerened about this gym being irresponsible and staying open in COVID pandemic and violating governors orders. This shows me that this gym is all about making money and has no social or civic responsbility.
For the first time - I think I should waste my time in reviewing someone extremely disrespectful.Initial reason of cancelling out the gym was my baby was not getting adjusted to the day care . I and my wife tried to go their separately but that didn’t work out .I joined there around 20th january for month to month and went to cancel out on 1st April, and I asked her to cancel my subscription but she was the rudest person I have ever seen in my life, she asked me for the annual fee and when I asked her if she can show us to whom is the annual fee applicable to because we are canceling this in advance . She said you have to pay this no matter what and I don’t have anything that I can show you .I asked her to let us think before we cancel out the subscription She said no I am going to cancel . At the end when I told her that the moment we joined and today your behaviors are extremely different then she gave me an option to freeze out at the same cost. But why would you want to go to a gym whose manager is extreme disrespectful. I imfact asked her to let us talk to the person who enrolled us initially she said no , you are leaving . This situation may have handled differently but as a Novi resident I will never consider joining this back again.Stay away,Also as a father of a toddler I would not recommend the day care as well.Stay away if you have small children or someone who would like to opt out for month to month,
Beware of their contract when signing up , they charge you an upfront initiation fee and charge for the first and last month. In addition they charge a $60 enhancement fee after 2 months. To top it all of, they don’t enforce Michigan’s Covid-19 safety rules - they could care less
This is the best gym ever I think and its the best Powerhouse in Michigan. They have everything you need in 1 place. They have a basketball court, smoothie bar, swimming pool, etc and their own healthy fresh made meals.at affordable prices. I had Rob help me get started hes the man if your in the market for a great gym and get your moneys worth Powerhouse Novi is the place to be.
Terrible gym. super bad costumer service. so many hidden fees that i asked about and they said there werent but when i asked again later on, they denied everything. completely irresponsible and immature. i am in the process of cancelling and there are many hidden fees they have just to cancel. wifi is terrible. there are always men just lounging around in the womens section and if you try to complain they try to act like they will do something about it, never changes. One time there was a man in that section and a staff walked in and said nothing. this was my first gym and my last because i dont trust gyms anymore. i hope this place shuts down.
I went in to see if they offer day passes. The EMPLOYEE, Ron Sanford, offered me a tour and showed me everything the gym has. Its a beautiful facility with a lot of equipment. However, once Ron realized that I wasnt there to sign up for a membership, he treated me as if I didnt matter and shooed me out of the gym. I left the gym feeling pretty embarrassed and turned off. Its something I didnt appreciate as I took the time to go on the tour when I could have utilized that time to find a place that fits my current needs. I was very clear in the beginning that I only needed a day pass. Wasting my time and his showing me around only to find that at the end that my needs and I didnt matter...unprofessional. All you had to say was Sorry, we dont accept walk-ins.
Really great gym. Very spacious with well maintained machines for cardio and strength. Awesome features are the basketball and the two squash courts. The courses are fun, I joined cycling and body pump. Both had great atmosphere and coaches. I highly recomend this gym.
I was a member here for TWO YEARS. I cancelled my membership because I moved too far from the gym to want to go. Cancelled at the end of my term in more than enough time. Got confirmation multiple times after canceling. First month after my cancellation, I get charged. I call ABC financial, they tell me I owe a ton of money that I dont owe. I call the gym, they tell me to call ABC to straighten it out. Its only $35 but its MY money that I dont owe to Powerhouse and could be paid to my new gym. This is why people HATE gym memberships. This is bullshit.
I was a member of this gym for two years then switched to Healthways. The cost scams are the only issue I have with this gym. The enrollment fee will range from $300 to $1 depending on when you join which reflects the money grab for the initial enrollment. The annual equipment fee of $60 has no logical explanation other than the gym will scam their customers to make their $30 membership not seem like a $35 membership. These fees are used to screw members when theyre trying to cancel their memberships.I switched my membership from Power House to Healthways which this Power House started supporting. Power House dropped Healthways and I was notified my previous membership would start. I cancelled my membership for the Power House within a week of my notification. Now I am being charged another fee for my last month since cancellation takes 30 days. The gym gave late notification to screw members on a different plan. Getting additional money one last time before having them leave. This gym is full of scams. I would recommend exploring other gym options. The gym issued warnings about switching memberships mid May stating the memberships would be cancelled May 30th. This guaranteed the gym another payment since I wouldnt have 30 days to cancel the membership. I would recommend searching for other gyms in the area before deciding to be locked into this scam.
The gym itself is nice but the staff is awful, I moved out of the country and went to cancel my membership they told me I had to pay for the month even though when I signed up I payed for a month in advance. Then when I argued with them they told me they will just charge me anyway. I suggest if you can pay a daily rate to use the gym go and enjoy but dont give them you credit card info.
Have been a member for four years and enjoyed the low cost and the summer free for what I was paying. Place is going down hill. It seems as if nothing works anymore machines broken being taken away and not replaced. Hot tub not clean along with the showers and soap despencers not being filled. Water fountain is always broken and takes weeks to be fixed.
This gym is horrible and not worth the money!!!! It smells, the locker rooms are way too small and they dont fix broken equipment. In the beginning they lure you into signing a contract by giving you guest passes, but when you want to use them all of a sudden the person who gave you the passes doesnt work there anymore and you are not able to use them.A big rip off.
Powerhouse Gym is OK, not great! Many machines need repairs all the time. My biggest concern is the front desk staff and child care staff. They are very rude and dont seem to be very helpful with people.I enquired about guest pass for my sister visiting for a week, and the lady at front desk said $20 per day, I said the gym membership is $30 for a month, then she smiled and said yeah, thats right,so she should become a member, I said isnt that too much for just one day guest pass? then she said it would be $40 for 4 days. They lie to you in front of your face.
This big box gym is all about sales sales sales. I was in town on business & purchased a day pass (Which they are VERY proud of at $20) They dont even allow their front desk girls to take care of a day pass transaction because the salespople want to put the full court sales press on fresh meat through the door. What a slimy vibe I got. I was very clear to them that I am only in the area twice a year. Yet, the “car salesman like” salesperson still persisted to try to get me to join & texting me, when I specifically declined to be text messaged. Drive an extra 5 mins & go to South Lyon Powerhouse. Great people there, and no hard sales push.
Really like this club. They have everything I need and more including a separate area for women to work out, a pool, a variety of classes and the best trainers Ive seen anywhere. Staff is helpful, professional and friendly and the club is kept clean and orderly. Ive continued to incorporate exercise into my life as a result of my experience at Powerhouse, Novi.
I go to the gym.they have weights.i lift the wieghts.i go home and eat protein.and i can do that whenever i wish any day of the week.what more could i ask for?someone to lift the weights for me while i watch television?someone to wipe the sweat from my brow?this place is a great deal at the current membership rate. dont tell too many people because i dont want it to get too crowded ;)UPDATE:why do i see dog hair on the floor throughout the gym? at least my allergies arent severe.
So, I had a free 2 week trial, and of course had to get the tour to receive it. The appointment started on time, and went downhill from there. The sales person was hitting on me with tasteless remarks (I like plus size girls, you should be a model) and then said Id be a good member here, was a right fit. Then came the pricing. Outrageous. But, he could work on the price, tell me, what is the problem? When I hesitated, I was accused of not valuing my health, and why, when Id go spend the same money on a dress, could I not put that into a gym membership. Then came the if you dont do it today, Im not making these same deals tomorrow, and youll have to pay $15/class. I told him I wouldnt be bullied into making a decision, that I needed to adress my finances before I committed. Didnt know what prices were, or I could have addressed it first. As a last ditch effort, he said, not everyone is lucky enough to be here, and I think youd be a good fit, youre one of the elite, people get turned away. When I responded that I wasnt going to be a part of a gym that excludes people, the sales rep stood up, shook my hand and walked away. I was dismissed. I dont need to be a part of that. Nor do you.
Save your money, go somewhere else. I have worked out at many gyms and this is by far the least comfortable gym I have ever been in. During the summer it feels like there is no Air Conditioning and now in the Fall it feels like the heat is blasting. It is very uncomfortable and distracts you from your workout. Go somewhere that knows how to use climate control. Also if having WiFi at your gym is important to you the WiFi is so slow and intermittent it is unusable.
They are slick they push you into opening a membership and i told them money was tight and they said ok no worries supposedly moved my payment date and it still overdrafted my acc before the actual date then they kept charging me fees even after they cancelled my membership. Said to say but its a good gym but the staff is not great oh the sauna room is disgusting.
After finishing a semester up at school I decided to look for a gym that I could become a member of during the summer months near my workplace. I called several places and ended up on the phone with this Powerhouse location in Novi, Michigan. I spoke with the manager there and he gave me the idea that they offered college discounts but claimed that he couldnt know the exact discount until I came in for my trial. The trial, as explained on the phone, would be a week long trial that I could start at any point in time. So I arrived at the Powerhouse gym in Novi for my first workout. It was packed but I still got my lift in. Upon getting dressed and proceeding to the front desk to discuss an opportunity to join, I was then informed that they only offer one day trials and that only if I signed up right away would I receive another discount. This is not what I was told on the phone. So I left, unhappy that I could not have a full week to experience the gym at different times of the day, as I was told over the phone. So about a week later I receive a call from the gym, extending an invitation to join. I mention how I was told that there would be a week long trial and the manager immediately got defensive. After they told me that I then told them that I would not be doing business with their establishment. To which the manager proceeded to hang up without saying a word. Didnt even try to get a customer out of the situation and completely pushed me away from ever signing with a Powerhouse. Im sorry, but I will not sign a four month contract with a gym for $150 + an added $50 maintenance fee without being able to at least see how busy it is during different times of the day. Im also disappointed in how I was treated as a potential customer, and for this I am taking my business elsewhere.
Everything! Especially since youve rearranged the gym a little bit, the presentation is much better and seems roomier. I love that it is 24 hours and you have every piece of equipment anyone would need. I love the different classes and your spinning instructor on Saturday mornings is badass!
Great workout facility, but even better trainers. Sam Fareed is who I would recommend. Motivating, intelligent, kind, friendly, and a through and through good person. I was fortunate enough to stumble into him for training and hes taught me so much (both physically and mentally). Whether youre just starting out or just need some help taking your workouts to the next level this is your guy!!
I like that PowerHouse is open 24hour this flexibility allows for me not to have any excuses not to work out. There is also plenty of equipment so no waiting and theres something there to develop every muscle in the body. I also like that PowerHouse has an abundance of personal trainers to choose from...I signed up for PT about three weeks ago, for the first time ever, and am already noticing a difference.. credit to my trainer Keith.
Please believe the bad reviews on this place these people are scammers. I was a member here for over a year before canceling my membership due to the gym equipment always being broken, its always dirty in the bathrooms and good luck finding a tv that works on any of the cardio machines. So after a month of canceling my membership I was looking for another gym and my husband who still had his membership at this gym said we should ask them if they offer a dual membership so that we could save money. So we go and Harold the sales guy said yea we offer dual memberships it will be $35 a month for both of you. Basically that was a huge lie for Harold to sign me up under my own account (even though the whole time he said he was just adding me onto my husbands account) and we were stuck paying $29.99 a month for my husbands account and the $35 that we were quoted for both of us for just myself! BTW I was only paying $29.99 a month on the first account I canceled! I called and talked to the manager Lori who should not be given that title since she doesnt care at all about customer service basically just blamed it on me and my husband and refuses to hold her employees accountable. She basically didnt believe anything I said and said the only way I could get my bogus contract waived is if she found a recording of Harold specifically saying they offer dual memberships and the price. She is a dense person and there is no getting through to her she just throws b.s. at you when you confront her with logic. As you can see they dont respond to the bad reviews on here because they dont give two craps about who they scam they just want your bank account info and will charge you for as long as they can. Please avoid this place at all costs and dont believe the dual membership scam the sales guys will tell you.
I am changing my review from 5 stars to 1 star because of below reason.I had joined the club and paid the 1st and last month in advance. So when i had to cancel my membership, i dont have to pay the last month.I had put in my membership cancellation on Sep 18th and since there is a 30 day notice, i understand that i had to pay for month of october. But this october payment should have been from the amount that i had already paid in advance at the time of joining. But the management made me pay for october and said the November month is free.It doesnt make any sense here.
Ive been all over to many gyms. At this gym youll find:- being charged multiple times in a given month- thirsty sales-team- uneducated non-degree management (rude/unprofessional)- being charged a higher amount then promised/signed for- lack of intelligence on trainee staff- youre not a priority, or of importance once you become a memberI have been to many gyms (5). Always gave what they promised. If you sign up at this gym, why would you want to worry about your finances? I, on the other hand, was not a fan of putting a magnifying glass over my bank account to see if they billed me twice in a month, but Im glad I did. I am no longer a customer of their fitness club.If you join, youre only feeding the fire more. Stay away, or use discretion. Join at own risk!
I went here on a guest pass just to check the place out. I went to take a shower afterwards and there were no towels. I asked the front desk if memebers typically brought their own towels and she said yes but towel service is extra and theyre microchipped to the members card. I asked if i could borrow one since Im on a guest pass and the (what I assume is) the manager came out and said no because there would be no way to track the towel. Are these things made of cashmere or something? This really rubbed me the wrong way. I really have no problem bringing my own towel but seeing as how this was my first visit and Im assuming youre trying to gain my membership...youd let me borrow a damn towel so I can shower afterwards, especially since they hold on to guests IDs.
Disappointed. Ive used the upstair place at morning like 3:30 or later AM for almost 3 months now. Im sure there is no sign like only for girls. Even so, what if Im a gay or trans-gender, how come the staff say you cant be here because here is only girls. when i said no sign here. and then he said Oh if a girl comes, you should leave here because of girls only Did i bother someone at 4am? I paid money to use this place and plus I just use a tiny space evey time. I share with others. Whats wrong with you? at the time Someone was just quietly shouting, but no warning like the staff did to me. He did it because Im asian? I didnt brake rules and I just quietly work out every time. Im not like other strong men. people may say skinny, but how come the staff could say you cant work here? I cant believe it. Today is Feb 25th 2019. This power house is not friendly to me and maybe some are racist. I deserve to use all place in the powerhouse because i believe thats what ive paid for. I shouldnt pay money here. Probably the lifetime is better service and bettet quality and should be friendly for asians.UPDATEAfter the day they put a big poster women only zone because of me? why do you need sparate zone? if you make like that, this gym needs some separated sections for men too. i havent seen men zone. plz be fair.
I am 73 years old and THOUGHT I was in good shape. Have been a member at this location since December and being retired can go anytime. The afternoons are wide open and great. The facilities are clean and equipment is functioning well. With that out of the way lets get to the true benefits. A commitment to feeling, looking and being in overall good shape regardless of ones age, is usually a goal to focus on. I have used many trainers over the years and am not a muscular guy, far from it. But hey at 73 life is good, or so I thought. I became friends with a few of the trainers and like anything else in life, it is all about how you connect with others, whether at work, socially, in the neighborhood, etc. After talking with Darrell Pasco, one of the trainers, for a month or so, I thought I would give it a try and after explaining my personal goals for getting in better shape, we started a program and i have made a new commitment. We totally understand the process and overall plan needed by me, as developed by Darrell. And he knows when and how to push the right buttons to get me to the next level. I am confident I will attain this goal I have set with Darrell. So whether you are 19 or 73 years of age, male or female, just starting a workout program, or trying to refine where you are, Darrell is the man and he is a great listener and sets a bar for you that you will certainly be able to chin, plus it really is fun and enjoyable and not a grind. Go for it and Semper Fi Darrell. Ask for him, you will not be disappointed.
Verbally abused at Power house GymWanted to join the Gym, met fitness consultant by Name Brian. We talked over a deal. The conversation comes to what number works out for us. The sales consultant starts to abuse about my weight, what kind of life I living without exercising. I have Fitbit and he says , i dont deserve to wear a fitbit. He continues to abuse saying , i am wasting time without joining this gym.Looks like the company is biased and is encouraging its employees to abuse its customers. I am wondering who has right to talk about my appearance.I wanted to talk with the manager of the Gym, about this attitude and abuse at the gym. I was introduced with another Fitness consultant who was not a manager but claiming to be a manager. The cheating and abusing game continues....I explained all the verbal abuses this consultant was doing. Got an apology. We started negotiating the deal. This consultant comes back again and starts his verbal abuses, I am wasting my time, instead i should spend my time to be fit Here starts the verbal sbuses about my body again.I tried to contact the ownergenuine manager at the gym. I leave a message and never get any response back. These guys are only to abuse, not to make us feel better. may be racism ?
These guys are really not professional when you go to terminate your membership.I am member for 2 years.I want to terminate my membership and I have being 3 times already.First time I went they said it can be cancelled only on weekdays, next time I went they said it can be done only before 8pm as the manager is not there, third time they say that I have to give 30 day prior written notice before I can terminate. The guy named Ron showed me a contract which was already expired more than a year ago and says I have to give 30 day prior written notice. This thing is going on for 3 months. If anyone have experience this let me know how to deal with this morons.
My wife and I switched Powerhouse Gym in Novi from Ballys when it closed down a few years ago. We have had the pleasant experience since then. We do like the facilities and the staff is very customer friendly. They do go out of the way to help the customer. The Yoga, Aqua, Zumba classes are fantastic and that too come with your membership.I would recommend the Novi facility with any hesitation,Venu Vaishya
My trainer rocks! I get a lot of anxiety being around people and in big places like Powerhouse but I always feel comfortable when I come and work out with him and it helps with my anxiety. Ive avoided going back to the gym for a couple years because my anxiety had gotten so bad but I force myself to after my second child and Im so grateful that I found Anthony!
I called and asked a bit getting a day pass. I was told it would be $20, which is too expensive for a day pass, but whatever. I ask about the desk hours and am told there will be someone there after 6am. I show up at 6:30am with $20 and am refused entry. The two people at the desk arent allowed to let in a guest till 9am. Terrible customer service.
Pointless to be a member here. I was looking for a gym that had yoga, zumba as well as ellipticals. I thought that this gym had all of those, but I was sorely disappointed. The two ellipticals they had never worked. Their zumba classes were awful (I have had dance training in the past and taken other zumba classes, but these were awful) and I had one good yoga class there. They eventually ended up canceling the yoga class I liked. When I signed up, I was told I got a free fitness assessmen/personal training session. This consisted of a 15 minute session in which they just wanted to see how many times I could, essentially, do bicep curls. This was not the session I was expecting. Furthemore, I think all the trainers that work there are former high school athletes that couldnt make it in college. When I tried to cancel my membership when I moved, they wouldnt allow me to cancel over the phone (thus, forcing me to drive an HOUR to come in) and once I did cancel, they still charged me for the following month and didnt refund my money to me.In short, if youre looking for a nice gym, go elsewhere.
First off, Im a professional fitness speaker and writer, and have been in various gyms for the last 23 years. I was a member of Powerhouse for 5 years, after the Bally Fitness in Novi closed. For the first time in 23 years in gyms, I dealt with a gym stalker. It was a creepy old man, and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Fortunately, I began documenting by keeping a daily log of the stalkers behaviors (yes, it was a hassle).I ultimately brought this situation to the attention of management via email. Even after repeated emails, nothing changed. Fortunately, I kept documenting. The focus on my workouts suddenly became about me keeping him away from me, and documenting his actions. In the final analysis, I contacted the Novi Police Department and filed a formal report/complaint on this matter. I am SO GRATEFUL to them for helping me with this matter. They were empathetic, proactive, and highly responsive. It is unfortunate that I had to escalate it to this level, but felt I had no other choice, as the situation had become unbearable for me.I ultimately cancelled my gym membership, and am SO happy at my new gym. Im just sorry I didnt bypass Powerhouse in June 2012, when my former gym, Bally Fitness-Novi, closed. I could have been this happy all along - without experiencing mediocrity.Rachelle Smith, CMFT (Certified Master Fitness Trainer)Professional Fitness Speaker & Author
Your leadership & managerial skills are outstanding, your dedication isunsurpassed an You are hands on , you follow up on things, besides it seems to me you have a very good & respectful relationship with your Staff. As for PHG, the place isclean, the atmosphere is friendly & respectful. PHGs best asset is the great Classes you offer and the highly devoted & skilled trainers/instructors.
Powerhouse Novi...2 month trial membership purchased from Groupon in September 13 - November comes and I stay a member... December 13 and all 4 LifeCycle bikes that I use are now BROKEN (2, seats continually fall while riding, 2 has no tension when pedaling). I informed the trainer(s) - next week, not fixed. The week after not fixed - I cancelled membership and then received an offer to stay for half price for the next 3 months... January 14 NOT FIXED, spoke to Lori (sp) the red head manager - she said, oh lets get your membership canceled - trying to handle me... I stuck it out because I liked it there... February and March are only costing me $30 so I stuck it out. Told Lori that if you cant get them fixed, Im done. Well guess what, STILL NOT FIXED. Received an email to stay for another 3 months for half price - I called up and spoke to Harold - he informs me that I cant accept their offer since Ive already used the same offer from the 3 months prior, to which I ask, then why did you send me an offer? He said hell get back to me.I now belong to PHG West Bloomfield - which is .5 miles from home and Novi was 8 miles from home - shows that I wanted to stay but customer service SUCKS, the trainers are more concerned with their phones texting/facebooking than actually working. Oh and if you want to use their WiFi - YEAH, good luck with that.Hope you take the time to read this - have spoken to at least 15 people that say that they are pissed about the bikes too, guessing theyll be leaving.Boooooo! on Powerhouse Gym NOVI!
Well, you can find all you need in this gym. However, they will not hesitate to take advantage of you. I asked for a 2 month menbership and 2 months latter I started receiving payment letters because my menbership was not cancelled as it says in the contract.Be awere.
SCAM SCAM SCAM!! SHADYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Just today I cancelled my membership 3 times and got a letter still for collections and bills!! PAID every month never late these people are honestly some of the dumbest employees /human beings I have ever encountered. Listen to me coming from a person 2 years with this gym STAY AWAYYYYYYY they are a fraud Im talking to a lawyer about harassment suit today! HIDDEN FEES EVERYWHERE!
Cant get a pick up basketball game going because 1 guy will call next and pick up 4 guys from the losing squad just so hell win so hell stay on the court while many other who havet played have to wait. Ive brought this up to the staff that they should have a list to sign up for pick up and they didnt even take me seriously nor do anything about it.

2022-01-25I have been going to this Powerhouse for a year now and it has been amazing. Ive had no membership issues as I actually read the agreement prior to signing. I cannot remember who my salesperson was that signed me up but they were not pushy and very helpful. I have been to Lifetime Fitness in the past, and for what Powerhouse offers at the third of the price, you definitely get more bang for your buck. This gym is for people who want to get a good workout in and dont care how pretty the machines are.The staff is incredibly friendly, and when I was overcharged one month the were able to remedy it very quickly and professionally. I use their training services as well and Ken has helped me increase my muscle mass while losing weight this past year. For $35 a month there really is no better gym out there. Free classes, a mini health food stand inside, and every machine youd want. You always see staff walking around cleaning, which you rarely see at other gyms.

2022-04-18I am no longer a member of this gym as I moved away from the area, but wanted to drop this review. I have been to 10 or more gyms now, and this one was by far my favorite. I thought most equipment was well spaced out well cleaned after use. Over the many years I was a member here, basic renovations were made to either bring in new equipment or replace old flooring with modern flooring, etc. The owners clearly care about the upkeep. The only con I could think about this place is that they do not have a favorable guest pass policy, if that is important to you. Otherwise, it was hassle free when I had to cancel my membership. If I ever return to the area, rejoining this gym would be an easy choice.

2022-03-02First off Powerhouse Novi is hands down the best gym in Michigan and one of the overall best gyms I’ve been to in my life. I went to the gym for several years even tho it was far from home because of the incredible atmosphere. If you are a long time lifter or just starting out this is the gym for you. The staff is so helpful if you have any problems. Brain especially will go above and beyond for the client and recommend to reach out to him specifically if you are interested in a membership. I unfortunately had to move to Salt Lake City for work but still anytime I am in Michigan try to get a workout at this unbelievable blessing that is Powerhouse

2022-04-30Had a membership for me and my little brother for a while and eventually I was moving and had to cancel.. Apparently I was on a 2 YEAR contract and wasnt allowed to they said. They said I had to keep paying it or out it on hold (which still costs me money). I told them neither will work - Im not paying. Im moving. Fast forward to now I receive a collections bill for nearly $600 for unpaid gym fees. Still not paying. Amazing gym inside but money hungry and dont care about the people

2022-06-03Had a bizarre experience. I went in to ask about a day pass, I’m in town for work once a month so I didn’t want to invest in a full membership. This girl approached me and kinda insisted that I basically had to purchase a month long membership at minimum (59$ and whatever cents) if I wanted to work out there. She made me feel kinda lousy and unwelcome. Like when you turn around and you can feel somebody mocking you behind your back. I’m a long-time lifter, I’ve worked out at plenty of powerhouse locations and I’ve never had an interaction that felt “off” like this. This is the only Powerhouse I’ve ever visited that doesn’t offer day or week passes, that’s kinda crummy. I get the impression that she was trying to force a membership purchase after I’d told her I wasn’t interested in any kind of full membership, and that was the tactic. Can’t really blame her for silly policies, but she could’ve been a little less patronizing. I’m sorry I’m even leaving this, I really just wanted to work out. A minimum purchase of a month is extremely unreasonable, day or week passes are a pretty standard practice.

2022-03-31I came in with my son to inquire about a membership. The girl that was supposed to tour me walked me about 10 steps into the building and then started to hard sell me without showing me anything. I told her I had a one day pass and she said they couldnt honor it because they couldnt opt out of corporate incentives even though my husband sent it to me after he signed up with them. I told her my husband was a member and she said I could work out, but that I would have to sign up right after. It was friends and family day...where friends and family were supposed to come try the gym for free, but she wouldnt let me just work out and try it for myself. I found the kids area to be great, if you have a very little one, but my son being 9 was super uninterested in the tiny chairs and little kid stuff. I didnt sign up because 1. Im not just a number for you to hit your quota, 2. the child care wasnt suitable for an older child, 3. the place, from what I could see, is PACKED.

2022-01-06Sam was our sales man and as I’ve seen in many other reviews he was very pushy and unprofessional. He offered us 7 days free and told us we could cancel our membership within the 7 day window. We did exactly that, we canceled within the 7 days. I’ve talked in circles with sam and the manager. I realized I was getting no where on the phone, so I contacted the better business bureau. The gym is always super busy, and very dirty. The daycare only has 2 adults no matter how many children are in attendance. I’ve worked in daycare and always had to be in ratio.

2022-04-10Really really AWESOME place. Staff does an incredible job even with the amount of people coming in and out. Prime location and great studios. Would like to see the showers cleaned a bit better. Found a tiny bit of mold on some of them. Still my go-to for sure though.

2022-02-22This gym told me that I was signing up for a one year membership, which was great! I later found out that they signed me up for 4 years and did not tell me. I tried calling them and explaining it but they insisted that I knew it was 4 years. I have never heard of a gym with a 4 year contract and I do not know anyone who would even do that. Now they are threatening to send the account to collections because I refuse to pay for something I did not sign up for. Do not sign up here, find a gym with no contracts so they cannot screw you.

2022-05-27Ok. Equipment is decent but its very busy and hard to find locker space. Had things stolen out of my locker twice and staff didnt even pretend to look at the cameras to see if they could find the culprit. Tanning beds are not working fairly routinely. Tried to get my wife a free pass to try it but the staff wouldnt give me one, even though there was a promotion saying we could invite a guest.
