Rachels in other cities:
Best filet mignon I’ve had in ages. Between the steak and the asparagus, their marinades and seasonings are incomparable to anything else in Michigan. Don’t even get me started on the mashed potatoes - heavenly. A sleek, stylish interior with a friendly ambiance. This is both the best restaurant in Huron County, and the kind of place where if you come back a handful of times the waitstaff or owners will learn your name.
First time here while visiting my sister in Michigan. One of her favorite places. The place was relatively full for lunch. I ordered a cobb salad then asked for the deep fried mushrooms as an appetizer. Got the appetizer fairly quick and they were good. My salad took a lot longer, but was good also. Later, both my sister and I had upset stomachs and decided it was the mushrooms since it was the only thing we both ate. There was nothing special about the place, but Im from the Seattle area and there are few places in Bad Axe to eat compared to the Seattle area.
Had an absolute amazing time and the food was spectacular as usual! Our waitress kasey was great at refilling as needed and made sure we were satisfied on a few occasions throughout the meal. Fast and friendly also left a good tip but felt that wasn’t an adequate thank you for her service so that’s why I’m showing her amazingness on her with this review!
AMAZING food.Highly recommend the Ribeye and Lump Crab cakes. Our server STEPHANIE was great and very attentive. Coming from having a server background, I love to be treated how I would treat my guests and she did just that. You not only have great food but a great employee.Next time were in the Bad Axe area, well be back for sure.
I was in Bax Axe Aug 23 -Aug 26 i stop in (i should tell you i have esophagus cancer so I cannot actually eat solid foods) I had the French onion soup without the croutons the onions or the cheese I just had the broth but Im telling you I saw the food going out of that place looked outstanding met friends the next day for lunch tell them that I wanted to go go here everybody in my party said the food was outstanding and they would next time in Bad Axe eat there again thank you and the staff was wonderful I wish I would have got the blind waitresses name she was kind of a Hostess waitress she was outstanding thank you so much
Waitress was surprised I was eating solo but was super helpful with menu suggestion when I was choosing between 2 options. The options she chose the pork tacos were super good. Got dessert to go and they no longer had cheese cake pieces like pie. Waitress came back and explained that they now come in circles and asked if that was alright. I said yes, she came back and told me that she took off a dollar since they were smaller. Waitress was also very attentive, along with another who stopped to check in with me. Would for sure go back.
Every time my wife and I make the trip up the thumb, we make sure to stop at Rachels! This is by far our favorite place to eat in when we are on our way to our place on the lake The staff is always friendly and they have done a great job of making us feel like were at home. The owner, Rachel, seems to always stop by and make sure we are satisfied with our experience. Thats not something we normally experience when we are dining out in the metro Detroit area. The food is always on point. I am addicted to the Thai Chicken dinner and my wife almost always gets the Ribeye and we are never disappointed. They have great cocktails too! We definitely recommend Rachels to anyone looking for a great place to eat in the Thumb!
A little on the pricy side but a quality dining experience. Friendly Waite staff, food is right on the border between great and phenomenal.Menus were a bit odd in design, but so many great choices, it was hard to decide.American, Asian, Italian, Mexican, steak & seafood. If you’re going to be dining in Bad Axe, want a good experience and have a couple of extra bucks in your pocket. Give Rachel’s a try.But do it earlier because around 7:30 it gets busy.
Very clean and modern inside. Friendly staff and attentive service. We stopped by for lunch but were hoping for a bigger menu that fit the google page. The lunch menu was too brief and wasnt much that was calling our name. Unfortunately, by the time it was all sorted out and the server let us know we could still order off the dinner menu, my husband had already searched another location and had his hart set on that. Well be back to try the dinner menu now that we know its available at lunch. Suggestion: offer both menus together and let the guest decide since it seems to be available at lunch anyway. It would have saved our two covers and we would have spent the $50 there.
Nice atmosphere and good food. Restaurant tables and bathrooms were clean. I thought it was a little expensive for the amount of food- but overall it was a good meal. We had a burger, cod sandwich, kids mac and cheese… fries cost extra. The water glasses were fancy with biodegradable straws. I liked that we got our own water pitcher with lemons in it for refills. The bill, they use a touch screen tablet for credit/debit cards to verify the amount and you choose 15% 20% or more for tip required.
First time here after years of driving by on the way for business. The portions and quality of everything I had tonight was spot-on. The creme-brulee cheesecake phenomenal beyond words. Great atmosphere and the staff was great. I found my new favorite place anywhere in this area, by far.
What a wonderful surprise we had at Rachel’s today-a new inviting and spacious outdoor space! I have been wondering why customers have been crowding the parking lot lately. I was so impressed with the owners’ motivation to embrace the need for more outdoor eating room. It made me feel comfortable and safe and actually like I was on vacation in the middle of Bad Axe due to the garage doors and the landscaping. Faith our server was delightful from the time we called to make a reservation to serving us at the restaurant. I took a chance with a prime rib sandwich wondering if it would be difficult to eat, but it was tender and cut perfectly to be eaten as a sandwich. Rachel’s is a place to go.
We always have excellent food here! We love the calamari and the sticky toffee dessert was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. The peach sangria was super yummy too. We also tried the bbq chicken and Mediterranean flatbreads-so good! The waitresses are always kind and friendly. We keep going back because it’s so good!
JUST COME HERE! We spent the day at the beach and contemplated getting easy takeout with 4 kids (7-3yrs old). SUPER happy we came here as the food was incredible, service impeccable, and the restaurant is incredibly cute. Will 100% come here every time we’re back in town.
Have spent most of the summer and now into fall having burgers every weekend in different places from the thumb clean into the upper peninsula. Todays trip took us to Bad Axe, and then Rachels. Very friendly staff greeted right at the door. The burgers were very good and price wise right inline with everywhere else we have been. Will definitely return the next time thru and will recommend and share my experience.
A first time dining experience at Rachels and all I can say is WOW!! Rachels was recommended but I was not expecting the meal I had. I travel a lot for work and can usually determine what I am about to get for food quality and service before entering the establishment. Rachels food quality and flavor were exceptional!! One of the best meals I have had dining out in quite a while. Stephanie W. was on top of her game and we received exceptional service. We will most definitely be back!! Thank you for an unexpected pleasant surprise!! A true gem of a restaurant in the heart of the thumb (Bad Axe).
Came with a party of 12, received amazing service. With as many little extra requests our party had I woulda been ready to throw something at us. Instead very friendly and happy to answer our requests for a side of bbq sauce or this or that. Food was great as well. Salmon chowder and Cajun shrimp pasta were excellent. Will for sure be coming back.
Amazing ambiance, even better speciality drinks and food fit for all ages! This is a gem in Bad Axe. Found this place driving through the city on our way home from Spring Break, and even spoke to the owner, Rachel, who was in there helping serve tables and make sure every customer was happy. It was insanely busy but completely worth the wait. Will definitely stop by again!
Went to this establishment because of the ratings. The food was mediocre at best. The Salmon was over-cooked. The seasoned rice was microwaved and stuck together, not to mention cold. The best thing was the service and crispy brussel sprouts. I will certainly not return
Our family walked in to have a nice family lunch as we were driving through and not at all what happened. From the moment we walked through the door we were treated with the most horrible customer service ever. The waitstaff looked at us like we were interrupting them and then after we were seated, no on ever came to our table. Other tables were seated after us and the waitresses walked right past us to them. We got up and walked out and won’t be going back. Absolutely horrible!
Steak was fatty bland and dry, not worth 30 dollars. Chips for chips and salsa were not fully cooked chips should not be chewy. Waitress seemed like we were a bother and she hated her job attitude was very hurry up and leave feeling. Chicken was also very bland and unseasoned. Would not recommend for the price and food.
Excellent food and service last night! So happy they are following capacity and mask wearing rules. Had prime rib and pork belly bowl and both were delicious. Fried wontons to start and sticky toffee cake ... perfect beginning and end. Also the Badaxe Bloody Mary was an appetizer in itself. Planning our next trip soon.
Fantastic. My husband and I gluten intolerant and were not expecting to have so many options. Gluten free buns, gluten free fish and red skin potato cubes, rice pudding with coconut milk, fried mushrooms. Not recommended if you have Celiac disease, but you must give them at try. Friend has prime rib sandwich and expressed it was delicious, (regular diet), food was hot and fresh.Check them out.
Great experience! I’ve lived out this way for two years and this is the first time I’ve been here. I had the Cajun shrimp pasta and my husband had the grilled chicken Alfredo. Both dishes were delicious, the sauces were thick rich and creamy. The Cajun shrimp pasta had a good kick to it, I just wish they served it with a bread basket. The staff was excellent; our server Stephanie was friendly, sincere and on top of her game. Overall, we will definitely return.
Based on the reviews, i decided to check this place out. Not what I was expecting, but was pretty good. This is not really a bar and grill so to speak. More of an upscale type restaurant. Nice drink selection, we had a bloody mary and strawberry margarita, 10 and 7 dollars. Then the lemon Thai chicken, which was very lemony, but good. And the crab cakes, which were very tasty. Overall a good meal. I was expecting more of the bar grill tho atmosphere. Staff very nice.
Have been here many times and tonight was my first bad experience - thats why Im rating it 4 stars instead of five. My dinner companion and I were largely ignored by the waitress even though the place was dead. Took forever to be able to place our order, get our food, and our bill. Everything took forever really. I understand everyone has off shifts and cant perform at 100% all the time, but we walked away feeling very unwelcome.
This place is amazing!Kind of stumbled upon it while driving through the area and was very pleasantly surprized. The appetizers, soups and entrees were all superb.I had the baby back ribs, meaty, flavorful and fall off the bone good.Fussy eaters would go crazy over the fried Brussels sprouts. Yes, they were that good! Our server, Stephanie was fantastic also, though very busy she was extremely attentive to our needs and made this a truly memorable dining experience. Will be back.
I would recommend the cocktails, but not the sushi.Honestly, I was pretty disappointed in our experience. When we were seated (without a reservation) we were told we had to be done by 6 for a reservation on that table (it was only 4:30.) And that just made us uncomfortable. Our waitress wasnt very attentive either, we all ran out of water several times and had to make several attempts to catch passing waitresses to ask for refills. And then the sushi was very unimpressive. The rice was under seasoned and over cooked, the roll was not tight enough to pick up with chopsticks, and the sashimi was not cut thin enough. Frankly, Ive had better sushi off a buffet. Just a bummer, I was really excited to try this place out.
Excellent burger, juicy but done all the way through. BBQ was on the sweet side but the menu lets you know that up front. Sweet potato fries had just enough seasoning to noticed but not over power the fries. Excellent service to boot, if you get the chance this one is worth the stop.
Went here for the first time during the Covid-19 fiasco, and these guys handled it perfectly. Seating was set up outside in a very natural and comfortable way, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and doing a great job. And the food. Oh lord was it good. Definitely going to be my go to every time Im in town!
We had a great family meal on Valentines Day. We arrived at 5:00 and the restaurant was about 2/3 full. We did no have a reservation, but we were still quickly seated. Our server was with us shortly after we were seated. We ordered drinks and food as we knew what we wanted as the specials were listed on the board. Our drinks, salads, and soups arrived within a reasonable amount of time. My French onion soup was very good. The place was really filling up at this point, the wait began. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, which considering the situation was not completely unexpected, but still a little long for our daughter. Our waitress did apologize for the wait and took good care of us despite the crowd. Our food did arrive and was amazing. My sizzling walleye plate with roasted redskins and grilled asparagus was excellent. My wife enjoyed the grilled chicken alfredo and my daughter liked her pasta with alfredo sauce. The owner came by to check on us while eating and apologized for the wait. Overall, it was a very good meal on a very busy night. We will be back.
Ordered a chicken caesar salad. Portion was decent, chicken and dressing were good, lettuce was less than desired. For the price, Ive had better. The other two people I was with ordered the tacos & loved every bite.Expected a little more from the service, especially since they were slow.I will go back and try again, just going to try something else.
Came into town for work. Best place for dinner in town. Food is good and the price is more than fair. Stephanie is a great waitress but watch yourself, she could sell ICE to eskimos. Had no intention of having a three course meal with coffee but she is persuasive. Would definitely eat there again.
I have really had a rough day, my husband passed and my debit card wasnt working. The waitress actually bought my meal for me. I have never in my had that happen. I will always eat there when I am in Bad Axe out of respect and appreciation. Also the next time I there I will bring cash for theeal she bought me and then order another meal and leave her a generous trip. She deserves it. I think her name was Jennifer.
Rachels family dining.I have been eating at Rachels family dining for the last two months while working in Bad Axe. The food has been great. The waitresses are always very prompt and courtious. There is one waitress in particular that I enjoyed having wait on me, Stephanie. I really appreciated the service that she provided and that she was always a delight to talk with! Thank you for such great customer service!
My Wife was standing up in her best friends wedding and during rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, my father in law and I found ourselves with no responsibilities, a couple of good cigars and hungry. We drove around Bad Axe looking for a place with an outdoor eating area and after traversing downtowns length and breadth, we ended up by our hotel at Rachels! SOOOO Glad we did. The service was absolutely perfect and the food incredible, prices very moderate especially for the quality of food and service we received! The facility is clean, we were served quickly, checked on often and yet never felt rushed despite the bustling business they were doing! Thank-you for a great experience! HIGHLY recommend Rachels food and spirits if you are even close to Bad Axe Mi.
My husband & I came to Bad Ace for a wedding & to celebrate our anniversary. Stopped in at Rachels for a sandwich to hold us over & was Pleasantly surprised, very nice yet casual restaurant, sandwich & fries to much more items for that special event. Our waitress Stephanie was very friendly & attentive. Rachels would definitely be a place we would frequent again if we were not 4 hours away.
Was extremely impressed by our waitress, food, and over all enviroment. I always enjoy things a little outside the norm.. And the menu provides just that. I have been around the u.s. and tried many burgers at many famous places. The black jack burger i believe it was called...best burger ive ever had. New favorite place to eat definitely.
We were impressed after eating here about a month ago, so we went with them to cater a 50th anniversary party for my parents. The food was VERY GOOD (fresh and well seasoned... it seems like everything was made from scratch) and service was excellent. I dont think there is a place in Huron County that could come close to them in quality.
While visiting in town i dined at Rachels a couple of times. It appears to be a local favorite, and the food and drinks, and service were all of high quality. I would highly recommend the fish (i believe it is seasonal) which was cooked to perfection, and tasted delicious.
Was at restaurant with a scheduled reserved party of 14 on a weeknight. The food and drink selection was excellent ( 5 star ). However; the server assigned to table was worse than awful. Had to repeatedly ask for basic things...... silverware, asked 3 times for a glass to pour my drink in , napkins, it was difficult to get the basics to even enjoy the meal. Plus server seemed to have attitude when asked for basics .... examples - when it was brought to her attention that one diner had not received a meal yet ( 10-15 minutes after other meals brought to table ) she acted as if we were bothering her and actually said I sure got screwed tonight . Also when another diner questioned something ,her comment back was I guess we wont be seeing you in here again. .... at least 7-8 separate local families are sitting at her table, hmmmm ... does the owner reallllyyy not want us to dine here again ? The other problem was an 18 % gratuity had been added automatically onto each bill ( 7 separate bills) at table, this wasnt told to anyone , so some diners ended up upset when they found out later they had double tipped.... Meal prices are at the higher range for this type of restaurant ( but food is excellent) . Great drink menu but no prices on it ... Drink prices were extremely high ... Was charged $12.00 for a shot of whiskey and beer prices are the highest in town.
Took my guy out to dinner tonight. The broasted mushrooms were delicious. The ribeye was melt in your mouth and really big (far bigger than I expected). The veggie side was asparagus (yummy) and mashed potatoes that are usually good. The deserts were rich and tasted wonderful.
The waitress was nice but the burger was awful!! You could clearly see and taste that it was not real meat!!! So disgusting! When the manager came to the table she said it was real but they mix breading in with there meat and even if that was the case it clearly did not say that in the menu on there 1/2 lb burgers!
Unfortunately, will not be back for sushi night.Extremely disappointing. They can tell me all day long the rice was made same day, but that doesnt make it true.Unflavored dry rice, the nori wrap was rubbery- Not fresh made, the shrimp tempura was NOT just fried- soggy, the prime rib roll tasted like the butane torch they used to flame it. Not sure how its possible, but whomever had made the nori rolls managed to make them all taste almost identical. Prime rib, shrimp, softshell crab, smoked salmon etc.Not sure Id have a private entrance door for sushi if it is not going to be one of the best possible quality available in the state- not just BAD AXEToo bad.My brother laughed so hard when i told him we went to BAD AXE for sushi and our experience there. He said what would make you think going to BAD AXE for sushi was a good idea?Hope was my response.
First time going here delicious food, great service , beautiful presentation that makes you feel like your eating at a high end restaurant without high prices and small portions and too top it off theybare environmentally friendly with paper straws and contaniers made of recycled materials would definitely eat here again and you should definitely try it out if your in the area
Seems like a tiny town with a real nice chic restaurant. Nice, wooden tables, stocked bar, full diverse menu, friendly attractive staff, awesome food. I went to pizza hut the night before and regret not coming here. Hope this gem of a restaurant makes their way down to Cincinnati. 8/8
Currently sitting in the restaurant, while watching the table that sat down after us getting servered and their order taken before ours, we have a smaller party, theirs has 10, so due to the waitresses lack of attention to our table our order will now be pushed back, first and last time here. Also if your going to have only two soups to chose from make sure theyre good.
The atmosphere was great, clean restaurant, wait staff was friendly but slow (very crowded that evening). I ordered the ribs, which I have to say were the worst ribs I have had. I should have not ordered the ribs as this is not a BBQ joint. I would give this place another chance but would probably stay away from the ribs.

2022-07-18Had a good time and a good meal. Service is friendly. I found the portions to be a bit small, the dinner does not come with soup or salad just the entrée. I had the grilled shrimp special and it wasnt enough food. My wife had the pork belly bowl and was able to finish it, shes hardly ever able to finish a restaurant meal. The food and flavor is great, fresh & presented just right. The drinks are wonderful.

2021-07-08Went to Rachel’s for lunch today (first time) with my family. Extremely impressed with the variety of food choices. Bloody Mary’s were huge and absolutely phenomenal. Cannot wait to share my experience with everyone we know in the area! Stephanie was our waitress, very friendly and knowledgeable. Lived up here seasonally for years. Wish I had tried this place sooner!

2021-08-25Excellent restaurant. The chicken parm was great. Even tho they were super busy, all the staff was cheerful and friendly, and the wait wasnt that long either. Frankly it was nice to have some time to relax and converse with friends. And our server Faith was top notch! She even noticed when we were sitting outside the sun was moving over on us and offered a shaded table to us that she quickly prepared for us to move to. Wonderful personality and just a wonderful PERSON! I was there with a model T group on a very busy night. She didnt miss a beat.

2022-07-18Rachels is a top notch restaurant! They have a great selection of fresh food options and fair pricing. There is a cool patio that you cant see from the road that is perfect for a summer day. The staff was friendly and offered up great suggestions on food choices!

2022-05-31Nice place. Really good food and the staff was excellent. Thank you.Had to edit this. We ate there again and they put us outside on a 90° day. They had a ton of fans so the heat was tolerable but the bugs.....omg the freaking bugs were insane. I have been in the woods and had less gnats in my ears and eyes. I would definitely eat here again but never would I sit outside again. Not worth it.

2022-07-01Best restaurant in the area!! We love the new, very large patio, and really enjoyed listening to live music by Rachels brother (what a nice surprise!)! I had the Cajun shrimp pasta and it was delicious.

2022-04-16One of the few restaurants I can recommend wholeheartedly to most everyone. The food is simply amazing and the staff have been friendly and helpful. The cost is well worth the value of the food that you get and I would encourage people to try the Southwest bowl. Its my favorite thing in the world. Food is consistently good. Not everyone can do this well.

2019-02-13A nice change from the normal small diners in the area. This is a good size place that is clean and well taken care of. A good size bar and dining room makes for a good place to take the family or just grabbing a quick bite and drink of choice. Different food options are a nice change from surrounding dinning options. Staff was attentive and bathrooms were clean but lack anything else worth mentioning. Prices were fair and can see this place becoming part of our dining rotation when in the area.
