My wife and I attended an Estate Planning Seminar, given by Rutkowski Law, in early 2019 and found it to be very informative, so we decided to move ahead with creating a Trust. The entire team was super helpful and the process was much, much easier than either of us had really expected. The finished product was packaged so that when the time comes that one of us, or our loved ones, needs to act they have everything they need readily available. Thankfully we havent had a need to reach back out until recently, when some questions were posed to me about our Trust that I had difficulty answering. I was under a time restraint, called the office after hours and received a call first thing in the morning from Michael. He provided me with all the information I needed and gave me his cell phone number just in case I found I forgot something . . . of course I did. I sent him a text and he responded immediately. My Mother, a Michigan resident, recently passed. As the successor Trustee for my Mom’s estate and Arizona resident, I needed the support and advice from a Michigan attorney in settling her estate.Based on my Sister’s recommendation, I hired Mike. My wife and I were thinking about what how we should protect our assets and what we should have in place to distribute them should, heaven forbid, something happens to us. We did some research and found that a trust is the best route to take because if we did a will, then it would have to go through a time-consuming and expensive probate process.We searched for law firms in the area and we eventually were referred by a friend to the Rutkowski Law Firm. So we called and set up an appointment and met with business owner and attorney, Mike Rutkowski. We were greeted by Office Manager, Coleen at the Bloomfield office and she was warm and friendly. She showed us to the board room where we would meet Mike and she explained that he would go over estate planning. She offered us some water or coffee, so we asked for water and she brought us a couple bottles of water. You can tell a lot about a business by the demeanor of its employees and Coleen was a happy person with a great attitude, so obviously we were in good hands. The law firm was extremely clean too, which means the employees obviously take pride in their work. Everyone was professional, polite and friendly.Mike walked in and greeted us by introducing himself and giving my wife and I a firm handshake with eye contact. We exchanged some small talk and eventually got down to business. We found that it was easy to relate to Mike because he was clearly a family man based on our small talk and family is most important to us. He reviewed the differences between a will and a trust and the importance of a trust and advised that its a set of instructions for what to do with our assets should something happen to my wife and I. The following pieces would fall within estate planning: 1) financial power of attorney, 2) healthcare power of attorney, 3) will, and 4) trust. He explained each of these four pieces in great detail so we could make an educated decision on who we wanted to designate for every piece and at what percentages, if applicable. More specifically, he spoke to the why, which is extremely important to me-why we were having the meeting, why we were setting up a trust, etc. Then we discussed next steps and the next step was to have a conference call with Client Relations Manager, Trisha.Trisha and I talked on the phone for about fifteen minutes and she asked me who I wanted for each piece of the trust and who would receive our assets and at what percentages. She advised that she was going to e-mail my answers to me so I could verify that everything was correct and then we would set up a meeting to review and sign the trust. We ended up changing things several times via e-mail and she was patient and understanding with us, which we appreciated. Once everything was finalized, Coleen called me and we set up a meeting to review and sign the trust at the Rochester office. Once again Mike reviewed everything in great detail and spoke to the why. The meeting lasted about thirty minutes and one of the exciting aspects of the trust that he pointed out was that this trust could be used as a beneficiary on our investments. He said that financial advisers will try to tell us that that is not true, because that is the case with most trusts, but we would in fact be able to use this trust, executed by the Rutkowski Law Firm, as a beneficiary on our investments. It would be a contingent listed after my wife for me and after me for her.The key to Mikes success with us was his ability to demonstrate value. He demonstrated the value of working with the Rutkowski Law Firm and the value of having a trust. We could have piece of mind now that we knew that the Rutkowski Law Firm was going to take care of our family and make sure that important decisions would be made to our liking even after we were gone. Its a feeling of safety knowing that our family will receive whats owed to them.

My experience with this firm was delightful. The attorney and staff were very knowledgeable, willing to answer any questions, and extremely accommodating. Linda Isho is great to work with and very responsive. She listens well and really does a nice job of interpreting whats necessary and translating it into legal requirements. Very business practical in terms of length of documentation without overcomplicating the needs of the client.

We used this law firm to prepare our estate plan. The entire process was done via teleconferencing though I know they no longer require that approach.

2022-06-27Like many, 2020 was a really, really tough year for our family. My father passed away after a long illness, and despite my parents best efforts to plan ahead for my mothers future needs, there remained some considerable gaps that left my mothers remaining assets largely unprotected. Addressing this became even more important when, four months after losing my dad, my mom sustained a traumatic injury; suddenly, we were faced with her long recovery and mounting long-term care costs.My sister and I immediately sought the help of Casey Callahan at the Rutkowski Law Firm to guide us through some early MedicAid planning questions and discussed how to structure her assets so that we could afford to meet her long-term care needs in the best way possible without running out of money! Early on, Casey also identified some issues with our (previously-formed) Power of Attorney documents that - had we not addressed them upfront - wouldve made our next legal steps impossible.We ultimately formed an irrevocable trust so that moms house would be protected if/when her liquid assets were exhausted. Due to COVID-19, Casey was able to accommodate our needs through several Zoom calls, which actually worked out pretty well for us as my sister and I live in different states! Their firm was even able to conduct a virtual signing of the trust documents.We were genuinely impressed by Caseys thorough knowledge of elder law and found him to be a really good listener, very friendly, personable, compassionate, and overall FANTASTIC to work with!! I highly recommend Casey, as well as the entire the Rutkowski team; they are all highly-skilled professionals that specialize in many different legal disciplines. Casey made what may have otherwise been a complicated and difficult task feel very manageable and easy to understand. He walked us through every step of the trust formation process and explained all the terminology along the way -- he was an excellent partner through the whole process, and were extremely grateful for all his hard work. And while their fees are reasonable for the level of service they offer, the peace of mind Casey provided was priceless.

We listened to their presentation and knew we had found a law firm we could work with.Recently we had the pleasure of working with Casey Callahan who seamlessly set up an asset protection trust for us.
