What a cute and wonderful spot to visit for children and adults!! I visited with my boyfriend and it was a fun experience at this quaint little place! They had a number and variety of animals, rides, that include a train that goes around the park, and a carousel. Multiple spots for children to play, a place where they can feed goats, and multiple concession stands and vending machines!! And heres the kicker its only $5!! Also there is a gift shop on site too, so make sure to check that out, I even bought a T-shirt with the parks owl Hooty on it!! So yes, a must stop if youre in the area!!
Talk about a super nice facility for Kids and adults alike! My girlfriend and I went expecting just a small gathering of animals in some smaller enclosures, but I was so wrong. Granted this place isnt huge, but its very well laid out and the enclosures were big and beautiful for the types of animals they house. First we seen of a wolf as we made our way around twists and turns and then ran into a nice penguin and river otter enclosure! As we continued from there we were able to see kangaroos, tortoises, and smaller variety of monkeys. Continuing from there we seen some smaller enclosures w/ birds and a few other smaller animals! You basically make a loop right around the park and walk back out through the giftshop where you can buy a variety of items to commemorate your trip. The enterance fee is only $5 and in my opinion worth at least $15! Its definitely worth a stop and make sure you help the facility by purchasing anything from a water to a t-shirt featuring a animal from the facility!
We love the saginaw childrens zoo! The price is fair ($5 per person) and plenty to do and see. Theres a small but fun collection of animals, a playground, a fossil pit, merry go round, train, and a farmyard with goats to pet. Concessions are available as well at a very fair price. Memberships are also available and totally worth it. For our family of 4, a membership paid for itself after only 2 visits.
Great prices and actually very cool how close you can get to the animals. And the ones that like to walk around freely. Very neat and was very unexpected, And the zoo was very clean and organized. Lots of areas to sit down and rest and eat.Its a smaller zoo but still very cool to have in Saginaw. Will definitely be back in the near future.
This is a really good value for the money and a great asset to the community here in Saginaw and Bay City. The zoo offers some surprising animals for such a small childrens zoo. For instance the Penguins that you see at this zoo are not featured at many of the bigger zoos. Kangaroos are also a surprising exhibit for such a small zoo. Then theres the history here. Things like the carousel are wonderfully preserved yet still serving families. Its great.
Not many animals to see, fish exhibit asks kids to find a fish but water is murkier than Hershey squirted bloomers 🧐, wife said the womens bathroom was under stocked, floors were dirty, hand dryer didnt work. And you would think being two years into COVID their wouldve upgraded their restrooms to be a bit more hands free. Exhibit glass was dirty on almost every one. Animals looked depressed, heck only real action was the turtles getting it on under the 🔥 lamp 🐢 🐢🤯. Yeah kids had more fun playing with worms in the mud when we got back home.
Me and my family Love the Saginaw Childrens Zoo. Always have, always will.Zoo Boo 2021 was fun this year, the little ones enjoyed having on their costumes and seeing all the other children in theres as well. Random tents were set up throughout the zoo where the children were asked to complete little games for treats. There was not enough treats given out to the children. Please improve this for the next years to come.
It was a cute place. A little disappointing that all the birds were housed inside due to the bird flu. Penguins were gone, all the tropical birds etc. The gator was inside a building due to the weather being too cold. We will have to revisit this again during another time.
This zoo is perfect! My kids and I have been trying to go once a week for the entire summer! We bought a membership amd have gotten our moneys worth! Not a terribly large zoo, but very pretty with all the gardens and landscaping done very well. Carousel and train are favorites, and boy do my kids love the playground. One thing I have always noticed is how clean everything is. From the walkways to the bathrooms. The staff is excellent to my children and knowledgable of the animals. I am a big fan of groot the tortoise!
Very impressive for a smaller zoo. My family and I have lived near the Saginaw Children’s Zoo for several year. We had not visited till recently. Boy were we missing out! It is cheap for a family to visit. We went on a weekend in the late spring, it was busy but not overly cramped. We were able to get up close to many of the animals. Many of the exhibits have more than one viewing area, making it easy to still get a close look at the animals. We were also impressed at how clean the zoo was. Some zoos tend to smell. This one did not. There were also several other things to do while we were there. There is a small eating are, they served hot dogs, popcorn, bottled water etc.. The snacks were also cheap, unlike most large zoos that cost twenty dollars per plate. There was also a barn yard petting area that had goats, cows and alpacas. The animals all seemed to be well taken care of, it was obvious this is a AZA affiliated zoo. My family takes trips all over the country every year to visit AZA zoos and aquariums. Typically, they are large and expensive. The Children’s Zoo was a nice change, it was smaller and less expensive. Yet, it did not lack in animals, their care or our experience.
This is a great zoo!!! The animals are well cared for, healthy, and live to look at the people. There is a great playground, a sand pit to dig for fossils, a carousal, a train ride, and a petting farm! The paved trails are well maintained with frequent benches in the shade and trash barrels. There is even a cute picnic area where you can bring your own food or buy hotdogs or warm pretzels. Awesome place for families, and a relaxing spot for adults that want a pleasant walk. Reasonably priced for individual trips, but the season pass is well worth it!
Most of the park was off limits due to covid. If more had been open the rating would be higher. That being said the park is affordable ($5/per person), seemed very clean and all the staff we encountered were extremely friendly. It was a cheap way for a family of 6 to spend the afternoon.
I have always loved this zoo, but recently this past summer tried to bring up an issue with a staff member. Got the run around, and then never got a response back. Feels like favoritism with staff - typical. Also, please consider cleaning the windows in the pond/underground viewing room. Honestly gross.
Bigger than I expected for being in Saginaw. Although I have an extremely hard time supporting enclosures when theyre not sanctuaries, this had a decent amount of space for some animals but again, theyre animals. They deserve more freedom and room to roam than they have. The wolves, monkeys and penguins especially needed more adequate space. The otter was a happy camper. And the peacock. The associates were polite and seemed to love the animals, but they are not their care takers. As for the care takers, unfortunately they were not in to observe. But an associate says they occasionally interact (play) with them. They seemed like domesticated pets except for the monkeys and wolves, of course. Definitely well fed and not neglected, but again, not adequate spacing like all zoos.
The price of admission is very reasonably priced the set up is just amazing and the train ride around the zoo is just amazing the kids got to touch some of the animals and they have an awesome playground set up as well so if the kids wanna play andbtake a break from walking around they can I highly recommend this zoo to anyine with small children.
Lots of animals to see and you can get very close to a lot of them. This place is extremely affordable, $5 for adults (cant remember how much kids costs) $1 per ticket for the carousel and train ride. Theres a nice little play area for the kids. Theres a gift shop, carousel, a train ride & theres an area where you go into the pond without getting wet to see the fishes (if the water & windows is clean enough to see them, most of time the water is extremely murky and windows are filthy and covered in dirt)The employees are kind of a drag & boring (Im not referring to the zoo keepers) The driver of the train should speak to the people riding, maybe kind of explain a bit about the animals as were passing by, make the train ride more exciting. The place is very beautifully decorated with flowers & gardens though.
Perfect little zoo for young kids, but my older kids (8 and 11), still enjoy it for a few hours too. Get a membership and visit a few times a year. Great for bringing a packed lunch. I try to avoid on the more crowded weekends. Nice play ground area along with many animals that are active and seem well cared for. They also often have events to educate the community too.
If you are in the area it is worth the effort trip! Took my husband and I 1 got to go through, but we are big animal people and liked to stop and read signs. LOVE the new opossum on exhibit! Over all super cute zoo and great shot to bring your kids for av quick fun getaway!
My son was playing in a baseball tourney next to the zoo and had a 4 hour wait between games so we decided to walk to the zoo. We werent disappointed. So much fun and so many things for kids to do. My daughter loved going in the goat area and brushing them. The peacocks that roam around are great too! It is inexpensive and the staff was so nice. Highly recommend!
Definitely a fun little family zoo, I have an 8 and 5 year olds. Its not something that will break the bank like most big city zoos. This one is $5 child/adult. Its the perfect mid afternoon getaway or just something to do and kill an hour or 2. It took us maybe 2 hrs to stop and look at all the animals and just enjoy it. Zoo employees are very nice and informative. Parking is also free.
Our family has a membership, and it more than pays for itself. This zoo is small and perfect for littles to enjoy as a day trip, the food wagon has great prices and my kids love the train. Animals are assorted well with something for anyone. The activities that are scheduled are always enjoyable. Highly recommend a visit
A cute little zoo perfect for young children with short attention spans or people who have low stamina. We take our adult handicapped aunt there every year and she has no problem scooting about with her wheeled walker. The hands on touchable farm animals are still off limits because of the pandemic but the play areas are open as is the train and carousel. The train conductor was a hoot and very accommodating toward our handicapped family member. (The train has cars with ramps and wider entry points! ) We particularly love the penguins and the two toed sloth. The penguin keeper was out feeding the animals and took the time to answer questions from the small crowd. Admission is a steal at $5.
It was a rainy day, so my baby and I had the whole place to ourselves. Many animals were hiding from the rain, but we still had fun seeing the river otter who was happy as a clam, the kangaroos and emu, but most of all the chickens! I realized as we were walking out the door that wed missed the bird exhibits. But for $5 (yes, thats all it costs per person!), I couldnt complain! Its a small zoo - on a busy day it wouldnt take more than a couple hours to get through it, allowing for plenty of time to linger - but everywhere you look there are flowers and plants so its just beautiful. I cant imagine what the butterflies and bees must be like on sunny days. Id love to return with all the family if were ever in the area again. Dont miss out on this delightful, very child-friendly zoo!
My 3 year old loved this zoo. He loved the playground, train, and carousal. There were a good variety of animals and nice paths for a stroller. Priced super affordable for families too! Gift shop was nice. Bathrooms could use some upgrading but it wasnt too bad. We will be going back.
A well contained and thoughtfully planned out childrens zoo with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and volunteers! Just the right size for little ones with well spaced out places for breaks including the dino dig and playground, as well a plenty of available shade for hot days. A great place to spend a day with the family.
Absolutely LOVE this place. Really nice, staff is polite and friendly. Lots of cool animals to see and theres a fun park to play at. Ive been going here since I was baby and it just keeps getting better and better. They just added a sloth! They have a train that takes you around the zoo. They also have a carousel. You arent required to wear a mask, but it is encouraged. You are required to remain 6ft distance from the other guest. And must wear a mask inside the store... They disinfectant recently touched things. Like benches bathrooms etc. They also disinfectant the train and carousel after each person. So they are really good at following Covid-19 rules... I recommend going here!
It was a cute little childrens zoo. Its a nice way to spend part of your day with the grandkids. Id do it again. 😁I appreciate how the employees wiped down the carousel and the train in-between rides. I feel that it is a good thing to do, with or without a pandemic, because our precious little ones love to touch everything... And then stick their fingers in their mouth. Gotta love them 🤣.
They need more help. The fish tanks were not cleaned at all let alone had no fish or anything to see in it. I FEEL the tanks should at least be clean. I know that little kids look forward to the zoo.so.having more hands on activities and animals they can view . There has been not even close to all the animals they are suppose to have in past 3 Years it would be cool if they used the open space for other activities if they dont plan on bringing the animals back.
Great value zoo. Admission is very reasonable and the zoo is big enough to entertain my 5yo for almost 2 hours. Plenty of other kids his age to play with in the fossil find and play areas but not so crowded that I was covid crazy and making him where a mask the entire time (we did by choice but it wasnt necessary)
The zoo is cute and very child friendly! Lots of animals and activities. Theres a petting zoo and a train the kids absolutely adored it. I think it is a perfect affordable getaway. Tuesday is a cheap day so if you have Tuesdays off thats your day to go. Only downfall is theyre only open 10-5 everyday so if you work til 5 youre kinda gonna miss out.
My family and I frequent the Childrens Zoo, and every time we have a wonderful experience. There are always interesting things going on, and the train and carousel rides are a great draw for the kids.I highly suggest taking some time and visiting it if you get a chance. From the outside, it appears small, but theres a great deal of wonderful things packed inside the space, and they do an awesome job of maintaining the atmosphere. The playground within is large and spacious, and provides ample room for a child to exert extra energy if need be.
Very nice, small Zoo. Easy for the kids to get around. The exhibits are easy to see. You can get up close to many of the animals. The hand-carved carousel and the train are the highlight of each visit. The zookeepers are knowledgeable and the staff are helpful. We are Zoo members, their membership works at other Zoos as well! We have been there for multiple events and I highly recommend it. Boo at the Zoo was a blast with the kids! Brew at the Zoo is a fun adult only event!
The place really went down, couldnt see out of the windows to see the fish anymore because all of the years it wasnt cleaned. The lake seemed to have no fish in it from all the dirt and algae. The penguins were huddled by the sprinkler just to get cool. They had a pizza box hanging in with the white cockatoos. There was a full grown alligator inside of a small room with a window and barely any water instead of being in its natural habitat exhibit. They are mistreating the animals and this place outlived its glory days and needs to be closed down!
This is a small Zoo which is perfect for short visits with young children. Exhibits are close up and personal in natural settings. There are also some Hands-On activity for the children including petting some farm animals. The Gardens and Landscaping with some built-up waterfalls are nice. Benches are strategically-placed if you want to sit for a while. There is a childrens play scape and concessions. Price for adults was only $5. There is also a train ride which is included in the price.
I am not a big fan of zoos. This one is really really nice and has improved and grown so much since I was a kid growing up in Saginaw. My family really enjoyed it. Big enough to have a nice outing half day, yet small enough to not be wore out when its all done. Lots of sections around the zoo are well kept and are helped by local groups. The stone walk across the pond for me was the best part I think.
Great place for a short day visit with younger kids! All kids love the zoo, and the big ones like Detroit Zoo, Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, and such are really amazing experiences. However, theyre so big its either a very long and exhausting day to see it all, or multiple days. The Saginaw Childrens Zoo is perfect for taking some friends to visit a legitimately great zoo where you can take your time to enjoy everything, and see it all in a day with time to go out for dinner after. The big zoos are more amazing, but I think our whole family had a more enjoyable day here than at the big ones, and were all looking forward to going again.
This is a beautiful little zoo. So many neat things to include like the train and carousel. The pond has a floating bridge that sways in the water. The playground and sandbox areas are both fantastic. The playground has smaller equipment for little kids and a huge playground area for big kids to run, jump, climb and move. The variety of animals was surprising for the size of the zoo. We loved the paved walkways and the gardens that people have planted.
Small parking lot but shares parking with Hoyt Park. Parking area was clean. Plenty of animals to see. Our grandson enjoyed himself very much. They have a train that everyone can ride. It was a enjoyable ride. Park was clean, trash cans around to drop your trash. Signs were posted in case you were not sure what you were looking at. Great day to spend with the family. Younger kids really enjoy themselves. Walking was easy nice trail system.
For the price, it’s a good zoo. Definitely aimed more at children. Just wish their train was more ADA accommodating. Tried to ride with my service dog and was told he can’t do that. Exhibits, I get. Train? Never happened before at any other zoo. Would stink for a child with a service dog to be told they can’t ride with a service dog. Not the end of the world for an adult but that definitely was depressing. Wish they also had water bottle refill stations. The Kona ice staff were the best though. Offered my service dog 2 free cups of shaved ice to cool off since we couldn’t find a water bottle refill station and I didn’t know if the bathroom water was safe to consume.
For years, I have passed by this zoo and never knew it existed. We stopped out here because my wife had a Groupon and it was an awesome little zoo. We spent about 3 hours strolling around looking at their variety of animals. The staff is very friendly at all of the exhibits and very informative of how they received some of the animals. If youre looking for something fun to do, this is definitely worth it.
This zoo is the most cost efficient if you have a large family. I love the penguins, otters, and kangaroos. They have a good variety of animals. Train rides are only a dollar. They have a petting zoo and a play area. What more can one need? Awesome place. We go at least once a year.
This zoo is geared towards kids. It is a small zoo that is a comfortable size for younger children to walk. The zoo has been made so the kids should have no trouble seeing the animals in their enclosures. Theres several play areas for kids to take play breaks and dont worry parents they thought of us too making shady spots for us to watch the kids enjoying the play areas. Its easy to see and do everything in a day. Small children love it, teens might be bored.
Very nice little zoo. Animals seemed healthy, the train ride was pleasant, and the prices are decent. 10/10, would visit again. Just watch out for the bridge by the alligator exhibit on the watch your step rock path- just about took a dip because I stepped too heavily on one side. Completely my fault, and the person I was with had a good laugh. I did too.
I came to the Saginaw Childrens Zoo as a chaperone with 3 bus loads of first graders. There was also another school with a bus full of kids that arrived at the same time. I was nervous looking at that crowd outside the gate 15 minutes before they opened the gates @ 10. There were groups of 4 kids with each parent and we spread out all across the Zoo as soon as the gates were open. It was actually amazing how well it all worked out. Nothing ever felt terribly crowded and there are only a very few attractions even capable of forming a line. The animals were very cooperative and the workers were very friendly. We had a picnic lunch under a huge tent out near the horses in the back of the zoo and then went back to checking out all of the favorites again. There is a train that goes around the property and for a dollar per person per ride it is a great way to see everything. The Carousel is also a dollar a ride, but those are the only 2 things that cost extra. The gift shop has a lot of great low cost souvenirs. I spent $5 on 2 animal shaped bubble containers and the kids were ecstatic. They have some Zoo Branded merchandise that looked well made. They also have some snacks and candy here in case the kids have an unexpected hunger strike. All in all it was a great experience and I will be taking my own kids back soon.
This is the best kept secret in Saginaw!! What a great place to take your kids, or yourself if youre tired of nothing to do. Its safe, secure, clean and unbelievably inexpensive! The wife and I take our grandbaby all the time. He absolutely loves it. We liked it so much we bought a year family pass.

2022-06-24We had a group of 8. 5 kids and 3 adults. For the 48 dollars it cost is, it was well worth it! The kids had a blast. We saw lots of different animals, and even all rode the train. Would definitely visit again! Theres a few hands on things that the kids can do as well! I love to look at all their different garden set ups from donors as well. Its truly a beautiful zoo!

2021-10-17Great zoo for little people. My youngest enjoyed it & it wasnt too much walking. The older kids were a little less enthusiastic about it. It was a little chilly when we went so some of animals werent out, but a fun and quaint zoo. Great value for the price. We just found out (weve never been here before) that their zoo boo is one of their fundraisers. It was definitely worth the $8/ person to support a little zoo. Theres a train ride around the perimeter of the zoo and its a good view of animals in the back. They also have a carousel that holds little ones up to adults.Great value for a half day trip. If the animals were out, it could be a great family outing.

2022-04-28It has evolved over the years. Even though the whale gift shop is gone, the train is still awesome. We love the new variety of animals. The admission and gift shop have reasonable prices. Its worth it just to play at the playground equipment even. If you havent been there recently, its time to go back!

2021-08-23Perfect outing with our two year-old grandson. The grounds are so well taken care of and clean. Fun train ride and carousel as well as a playground, fossil find and miniature baseball diamond. Just enough animals to make it interesting and not overwhelming. Highly recommend.

2021-10-21Saginaw Childrens Zoo is always fun on the weekends in October. Zoo Boo is an awesome event where you can ride the train and carousel as many times as you want. My niece and nephew had so much fun walking around and playing the little games and activities that were set up for Halloween. They also had fun playing at the playground and fossil dig area. Its definitely worth a visit during the Zoo Boo events!

2021-07-21Adorable childrens zoo with lots of fun exhibits and affordable admission. Theres a lot of shaded places to sit and eat a picnic (tables/benches/grassy areas) and the atmosphere is wonderful. A special highlight is seeing all the little flower garden plots that line the pathways. Theyre all unique and beautiful in their own way - each is managed by a different family or group in the Saginaw community. Theres a super cool park for kids age 4-5-ish and over (a little big for my 2 y.o.). Theres a train ride (about 5-7 mins long, circles the whole campus), a carousel, a fossil digging sand pit, and lots, lots more! My only complaint is that one of the coolest features for my kiddo is an under water viewing area whose windows were, at the time we went, covered in algae and seaweed. If she could have seen some fishies, shed have been even happier, but still had a great time regardless. All in all, its an excellent family excursion. I highly recommend!

2021-07-28We really love this sweet little zoo! Its well worth a membership, for a good size family, of you live nearby. The train, the carousel, the fossil find, and the petting zoo, in addition to the animal exhibits make it a real bargain, and a great afternoons entertainment.
