We had a lovely experience tonight! Our surver Jack was AMAZING! As was the manager she was super friendly and kind. Our food came quickly and was beautifully put together We definitely recommend going. They have so many options that you can go back several times and try somthing new.
This was a memorable dining experience. The staff was friendly and attentive. The chefs are highly skilled. Everything was fresh and the flavors were lovely. The waiter even warmed the sake flight for us. I wouldnt order the salad, it was Americanized and detracts from the meal. Everything else was perfect.I will definitely be eating here again...and again...
This was my first time in Battle Creek and I love to eat sushi. I googled sushi and this location was the best choice I made. The staff service was very friendly and attentive. The sashimi was brilliantly cut and served. They also have local brews that were great. I will be traveling here more often and can’t wait to come back.
Good selection of menu items. Had lunch here twice, both times wait staff were great. Meals were prepared great but I wasnt impressed by my first lunch selection. The Beef Negimaki Bento Box didnt have a lot of taste, the preparation was good just not something I would ever order again. I dont live in BC so this is the first time Ive eaten here and will eat here again before I leave and more than likely stop in for a bite if Im ever in town again.
Oh how I love it here. Doesnt matter what I get. Some of the sushi here seems to melt in your mouth. Soups, salads, noodles, service are all great every time I go. I always try something new. Prices for sushi range $5/roll for a basic sweet potato or California roll to $13+/roll for more complex or elegant choices. If your a sushi lover then this is a must try.
So fresh, so yummy, so cool to watch the magic happen right at the bar💃🕺💃🕺💃Waitstaff is amazing!!!😁🌞🌞🌞😁so polite and welcoming and ready to go out of their way....an amazing first visit, will definitely be back!!💃🕺💃😊💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺😁thank you for a great birthday😊💓💓😊HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 🤙🤙🤙🤙😁
This is our go to sushi place. I personally drive 45/50 min to go here even though Grand Rapids is closer to me, I do this because this place had the best sushi and great staff. I have a shellfish allergy and have never had an issue there. Update still the freaking best!
I made a last-minute choice and it was a good one. Sakura Sushi is one of the better sushi restaurants I’ve eaten at. I had a tuna dinner which included five different variations of tuna. It came with soup and salad. All of the staff from the server to the sushi chef and manager were friendly and easy to talk with.
Best local sushi in the area. Always fresh, good quality seafood. We love classic sashimi and nigari,Never been disappointed. They also have many chef specials and non-raw meals including udon and rice dishes. Chefs are top notch, wait staff is always great.******Update******Staff has changed, still pretty good
I flew into town and was craving some sushi. Id heard Sakura was a good place to go so I did. I walked in quite confused (wasnt sure if I was at the right place) and was greeted by Faith. She was warm and kind when Id said Id never been there before but I had heard great things of the place. She made the ordering process super welcoming and chill. After I took my food home, I came back with my sister because I wouldnt share my 32 pieces of sushi :) After the encounter with Faith, I was more than happy to ride back with my sister to bring them more business. Superb first impression, and when Im back in town I will stop by again. Thanks Faith!
Sakura is taking Covid 19 seriously, requiring masks to be worn until seated and marking out areas to make social distancing easier. An appreciated part of this was that each pen used as part of payment was placed in pot to be sanitised. This attention to small things like this makes me feel more at ease. Hand sanitiser was available at the entrance and the counter. We ordered in store for take out and were given a 25 to 30 minute wait. The food was ready and waiting when we returned after 25 minutes. The food was fantastic as we have come to expect. The vegetable tempura was light and crispy. The rolls well made and stayed together. We ordered mainly vegetarian rolls- avocado, avocado asparagus cucumber, sweet potato, and futomaki. The eel avocado roll is a favourite. And we were not disappointed. We asked for sides of ginger dressing and gluten free tamari sauce and recieved both.Good food, wonderful service and attention to the small things. We love eating at Sakura.(Visited Sep 3, 2020)
The food was really good, the server was rather rude, the music playing in the background was inappropriate. We will probably be back but not dinning in, well do takeout instead. My Japanese wife, enjoyed the food but noted that some of the menu items were mislabeled. Our sever must have been having a bad night, because she was rude to us from start to finish. The music playing in the background were more suited to a nightclub, as most of the songs had overt or subtle sexual references. Definitely Not A Family Friendly Restaurant. Might order again, (the food was good) but will avoid the dine in experience.
Between manager David and all of the staff you will never get better service. It’s definitely your “Cheers” experience for sushi restaurants. And the sushi is OUTSTANDING! I’m born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Fl and eat sushi out about 3 times a week so I love me some sushi and have eaten it the majority of my life. During the summer I come up to Battle Creek to visit my parents. My mother and I eat here 2-3 times a week. It’s that good! I promise you will not be disappointed. This place is the bomb! And FYI, I personally don’t have a google account so I have to use my fathers.
Really great quality of sushi, as well as you there items on the menu for people in your party who dont care for sushi, as well as a nice beer selection. The atmosphere is very nice, dark tables with dimmed lights and light-up boards that highlight their specials. Additionally, I have never had a problem with the service here. I highly recommend trying their house special rolls, my favorite is the Crazy Dragon Roll.
High quality sushi and creative specialty rolls! Prices are reasonable. Wine list is okay, but this an area that I know I can be picky about. Staff is very friendly and competent and I never felt rushed even though we were there late and stayed after hours a bit. Highly recommend.
Great place to have lunch. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. I thought the sushi menu was pretty good and they have some Japanese beer on the menu as well. Good appetizers and a discount for military, veterans, and law enforcement. The prices on some things are a little more but not unreasonably so. It is definitely a pretty good representation of Japanese cuisine.
Food was good. Theyve managed to keep some atmosphere while adhering to new safety protocols.Waitresses need longer breaks or a fanned room. Our lady was obviously overheating under the mask and it affected her mood throughout service. I feel for them and while it slightly soured the experience this time, past successes grossly overshadow that and i just have sympathy for your waitresses.
( revised review) Great food, generous portions, FRESH made sushi. Taste is so delicious that my kids beg me to eat there over the buffets in town. The four of us ate 5 large specialty rolls and 5 regular rolls and are every last piece. So good! Compliments to the revamped management, wait staff and awesome sushi chefs!
Sakura is my favorite place to get sushi in Battle Creek. The wait staff always has good recommendations. Theyre abiding by covid protocols and we didnt need a reservation to get a table for a late dinner on a weeknight. They have paper throw away menus or a QR code posted out front for a digital menu. Plenty of hand sanitizer at the entrance/exit (just not on the tables). Condiments arent on the tables anymore but available on request. We were very pleased!
Oh my gosh, the food was absolutely amazing. I spent less than $40 and got a ton of food. It was hot and delicious even after we sat for 45 minutes waiting to pick up our daughter from work. We got home and steam was still coming off the food. We had the Rainbow Roll and it was fresh and tasty. The shrimp fried rice had huge pieces of shrimp and not just a few either, there were shrimp in every bite I took. We also got the shrimp tempura bento box and I can’t say enough about the shrimp that were in that meal. They were huge and tender and delicious. The fruit in the box was honeydew melon and it was ripe without being over or under ripe. There were three types of fried veggies and everything else in the hot meal was so good. There was a Japanese dressing for the salad that was so light you almost didn’t know it was on your tongue. My husband & I will definitely be going there again.
The sushi chefs are great. The food is great. They pick great tasting fish. This place can compared to sushi restaurants you find on the west coast. Its not the super high end sushi place with one piece of sashimi for each course with a $100 bill at the end of your one meal. But the quality of fish and rolls are top notch. The service is very spotty though. Sometimes slow. Sometimes forgetful. If it wasnt for that this place would get 5 stars. Try sitting at the bar sometimes, the chefs might treat you to a free appetizer.
Sakura has a great menu with options for everyone. I go specifically for the sushi and sashimi, but they have plenty of non-sushi offerings. The fish is always fresh and wonderful. There are good drinks, and the prices are reasonable. The staff are great too, I have gone dozens of times and every visit was Great! The atmosphere of the restaurant is great too, sit at the sushi bar and watch your meal be prepared, or get a table :)
Omg.. The most amazing sushi! Definitely worth the price. Fast and friendly service on the phone as well as in person. The menu is huge and there are so many different sushi rolls. My boyfriend and I cant wait to try them all.We ordered carry out 20 minutes before lunch was over and the staff was super awesome about it.Cant wait to go back for more xD
I was very scared and skeptical about sushi but the waitress was super helpful and made me feel so comfortable! She even showed me the dishes that were less overwhelming for a first timer! The environment was fun and relaxed to the point where the sushi chef was even entertaining at the sushi bar! Now Im hooked and have it at least once a week!
Food was good. Super unhappy about a table sitting right next to me. I asked to be moved to another table, still could hear a very disgusting conversation going on. I had to finally get up and leave. The server said her boss was talking to the owner about what to do... too late. If the workers or manager heard any of the conversation it should have been stopped. He table was loud and so inappropriate. Good thing there was no children in there. Most likely wont be back. Its too bad.
I went to this place for a friday night dinner. They have great selection of sushi rolls. Most of them we tried were good except for salmon roll. It was kind of bland. We also ordered tempura appetizer and it was yummmy. I would say its a perfect tempura.Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. I would definitely come back to this place.
The food was great, the service was terrible. We split three sushi rolls between the two of us. I also had a garden salad and miso soup. The salad was drenched in dressing though. Soup was hot and good. The sushi rolls could have used some more sauce. I gave three stars because the service was very poor. Our server did not wait for us to sit down before starting to talk to us about drinks. She did not offer us water with our alcohol purchases. We got our food fast. During our meal the server did not come back, not even one time, to see if we needed anything! As I have served for years at various restaurants and in different settings I found this extremely inappropriate. I needed water and had to ask the manager for it. I could see our server standing in the back hallway socializing as we ate. She finally came back after we were well past finished. Her attitude was short and not friendly. Our bill was $51.94. We left a $60 and walked out. She stood to earn a good 30% from us, but we believe you earn money as a server by putting in effort! Lastly there was a server vacuuming RIGHT next to our table during our dinner. How rude to run a vacuum cleaner while someone eats dinner! Good food but dont expect quality service.
Sakura in Battle Creek is a nice Sushi Joint. My wife and I are vegetarians, and they have a few really good rules for us. We especially like the avocado roll. Sometimes well get the AAC and sweet potato rolls, which were very good as well. The service is pretty quick even when they are busy. We are always pleased with our meals. The side salad and avocado salad are both very tasty as well. Most of the time I order an extra roll so that my wife can share it with me, because she pretends like shes only going to eat the two roles that she ordered.
Fabulous restaurant. Being in a strip mall of sorts was a little deceptive, I’ve found those places are usually just run of the mill food. Not the case for Sakura. We were in Battle Creek just for a visit to the casino and decided on this place based on the reviews and glad we did. The Gyoza (pan fried dumplings) was so good. We had the Michigan Roll and a White Dragon, they both were larger than what we’ve found in Grand Rapids and the taste was fresh and clean, the temperature perfect, the rice fell apart into grains immediately and on the Michigan roll the Salmon just “melted” (for lack of a better term); on the White Dragon the crab tasted great and it’s apparent that it was not immigration crab. I’d recommend getting the actual fresh Wasabi (can’t recall the name but it’s not the Wasabi paste) if you like the of Wasabi, worth every cent of the $3 it cost. The Maki rolls were also very tasty but not much different than what we’ve found at other sushi restaurants. Our server was Devon, he was super attentive (but not annoying) had a great sense of humor and kept our drinks full. It’s clear he either loves what he does or is just really good at at least faking it.Oh, and the prices were also very reasonable, I’d even dare to say lower than expected based on the quality of food received. If you’re in the area and like Sushi it’s worth your time to stop in.
Food came out delicious, even though the waitress brought us the wrong roll and didnt bother to bring my drink order. Especially liked how she didnt even apologize when I explained that I thought I had asked for for a samurai roll...And after soup, salad, and food had all been consumed I no longer needed my drink order and to please cancel. Left a lot to be desired by way of customer service.
All vegetable Sushi?? YES they have it here! In fact, all of their sushi is made fresh by chefs you can actually see. This has become my new fav take out place for this genre of food in Battle Creek. Greeter and waitstaff have been wonderful any time I make over to this place. It would be better with more available parking but the food is knock-out and more than makes up for the parking thing. Try the sushi, fried rice, or a specialty meal and youll be back for more!
My family and I love this place. My eight year old loves the miso soup and cucumber roll as well as the chicken bento box. We always get fresh sushi when we are there and the waitresses are always very friendly. If you sit at the sushi bar, the chefs are very entertaining. We would highly recommend!
Throughly impressed with the quality of the food at Sakura. Fresh sashimi that tastes like it was just caught, so for being in the middle of southern Michigan this is quite an accomplishment. They know how to pack it and bring it in right. One of my favorite experiences about going to a new place, for me, is discovering the rolls that are unique to that location. Rolls like the Battle Creek and the Sweet Heart are original and something new to try. I look forward to going back.
Every visit to Sakura is a treat. After 30+ visits over past 2 years, I am still impressed by their service, skilled chefs, and the bursts of flavor with their fresh sushi and sashimi. Try the soup for 2... Much tastier than elsewhere. Always a date night with my wife when we get here, no matter if we are in jeans or dressed up.
Oh its almost to hard to put into words. Absolutely delicious!! This is my second time coming here. The first time there was a quite a few of us and every one of us ordered something different. Everything I tried I loved. This time my son ordered. Once again it was all new. Items I havent tried yet. All was fantastic.Best place in town. I highly recommend Sakura
We simply walked up and read on the door that 1 person was allowed in the lobby at a time, so, my sister grabbed a menu and we both stood outside to look to the side of the door, whoever the little old blonde lady was came outside extremely rudely said move down their are customers trying to come inside social distancing thing walks back inside, as a lady with no mask walks inside, so Ill never buy from you ever considering that was the first time I was ever going to get to try sakura. Thanks for the terrible service. We are all going through this together the least you could do is be kind.
I had the dinner bento box. The flavors reminded me of being stationed in Japan as a kid. Somehow they managed to make the plate not only filling and flavorfull but very artistic.Just to let everyone know im not a bot. It came with a salad, the salad had a flavor profile of its own that attempted to become the center piece. I cant remember any of my favorite food stands in Tokyo offering salads and thus did not finish it.If you enjoy the flavors of sake while eating their sake flight hits every note throughout the meal. We had ours warmed up because it helps the flavors bloom. The service and environment needs its own review for how well they preformed.
Been here nurmous times, the food is good and reasonably priced. One of my friends had a terrible experience with their bathroom. She said the bathroom smelled like rotting food and swage. Bathrooms are supposed to smell a little but she claims that this didnt smell like someone doing their business. I didnt verify this claim because a cant go into that bathroom. She has small children so shes used to changing dipers. She ended up only eating about a quarter of her food. Our server, while she did a good job...she wasnt very friendly. Otherwise things were fine. Ill be back, maybe then we can verify if the bathroom situation is an ongoing problem or an isolated incident.
Weve never been disappointed. At one time during peak hours service could get a little slow (as any good place does) but that has really improved with increased staff. My husband and I visit when ever we can, and always try to try something new, Weve never made a poor choice.
Hmm what to say about this place. I really like the people. What really got me was the food. Idk. Ive eaten at a lot of places. For some reason I just didnt like the food. Maybe its what I ordered. Maybe it was because I was tired from the Zoo. Idk. I guess Ill give it another shot, but something just felt off about it all.
So I recently wrote a review about the new game in town called Ichimi. Sakura is the established base. However, due to the fact that neither place is actually run by Japanese people, the authenticity lacks (dearly). Having said that, I rate Ichimis food as better tasting. The reason though that I keep going back to Sakura is that their waitresses are so nice and especially sweet to my son who loves the hot pot udon. They always give him some free dessert and take time to talk to him. I dont know if its a hiring practice, but it always is this way and that is what makes me not able to betray my beloved Sakura and go to Ichimi. I mention in my review of Ichimi too that it breaks my heart to give the nod for the food to them over Sakura. However, I reiterate that for special meals with my son or family they all vote Sakura and based on the sheer way that they have treated me over the years, this is where I pledge my loyalty. Even though I know a lot about Japanese foods, dining out is still an experience in comfort and enjoyment. Sakura delivers where Ichimi does not.

2022-05-27Even for someone who doesnt eat sushi- this place is delicious! I ordered the chicken fried rice and it was phenomenal! Plus the portion size was massive! Wait staff was friendly and went above and beyond as well!!

2022-04-05Nothing better than fresh made sushi. The food is premium quality. The sushi is hands down the best in town. The restaurants astetic resembles what I would call a den. Its some what low lighting with classic Japanese wall art. There is a small sushi bar with available seating.

2022-03-05Our experience was poor at best. The manager was clearly drunk and it was obvious upon our arrival. The mood in the dining room made us feel like we where putting them out by being there on a Friday night at 8pm. Our server was less then helpful. Will not return, its a shame they used to be the best in Battle Creek.

2022-02-16Our service was really great. It was nice to have the sushi option in the area. The sushi was well presented, but I dont think the quality was that great. I feel like it was just average. The restaurant was clean so that was nice.

2022-04-22You never have to question the quality, service, or dedication to the customer. Great cuts and quality of fish make this a top notch place in my book always. The local rolls and specials are something to look at for sure. Take your time on the menu, its long and the choices are the best part. Its quite possible they have the best Hamachi kama anywhere.

2021-08-16Amazing Sushi at Sakura! I love Fatty Tuna Sashimi, but am disappointed with it at most places. Sakura delivers raw Tuna that almost melt in your mouth. I also love the Bento Lunch Boxes and their Miso Soup is on point. I highly recommend them for Sushi lovers.

2022-06-23This was my first experience at a Sushi establishment. The food was great and the service was even better. Will definitely go back and have recommended this place to friends.
