This was by far the best experience I have ever had at a Secretary of State. Please keep the appointment system. I was in and out within 15 minutes. I was helped by Heather she was awesome!! She answered all my questions and concerns. Very fast friendly and professional service !! 5 STARS!!!
You have the absolute worst automated service Ive ever experienced in my life, Ive been calling for the past hour and have been hung up on by the automated service 3 times whenever I try to get to a representative I do not have access to MI Login and I do not live in the state of Michigan anymore and I sent money and paperwork to yall last week to get my license reinstated and I can not get a single bit of information as to if its been cleared or not, not to mention you NEVER respond to emails. Do better.
This place is just plain out horrible and disrespectful. I went in today to renew my driver license and plate on my car and the African woman working there got a attitude with me saying that I need to make four different appointments to do all that. I made a appointment online and even though I had one, she still gave me a hard time to do everything that I was there for and needed to be done. Why in hell do I need four different appointments to get a handicapped tag and license plate when I already have a appointment to renew my drivers license and tags on my plate? She’s always got something smart a**ed to say every time I go in there. She needs to be fired plain and simple
Great! I was impressed to learn an appointment reminder was sent to the calendar on my phone. Then I only waited outside the building less than 10 minutes before my appointment when I was greeted to go inside. I had signed up for multiple services (including new driver license, title transfer, registration, etc.). I only waited about 5 minutes in line. Then when called to the desk, it only took about 15 minutes for the agent to complete all my requests. Very well done.
This is the slowest sos I’ve been to it’s so understaffed. It’s a Friday at 10 am appointment only and there’s seriously 12 people out side and 10 people inside waiting that just shows how fast they can crack our there appointments. Slow slow slow. Go else where. I’m not expecting right away but I’ve been in line 45 min standing. No chairs available. Just barbaric conditions for today’s day and age. Humans were alive 90,000 years ago and we’re still STANDING IN LINE.
One star is being generous. I went with someone else to help because it was their first time at a Secretary of State. Its still appointment only which is ok. But they were still super slow with the customers in front of me and we didnt get helped until 20 minutes after the appointment was scheduled. Jennifer the cashier was super rude. One thing we went there for was to get a plate transferred to another vehicle. With no explanation, she said You cant transfer this plate today. When I asked why she couldnt transfer a plate to another vehicle, she replied, This isnt your transaction. Im not dealing with you right now. After that, we asked if we could purchase a recreational park pass, and she still printed out a new license plate tab without it. On top of it all, the cashier was barely paying attention to us and was too busy helping the cashier next to her, making us stand there in the dark.Terrible service gets a terrible review!
Great visit. In and out in ten minutes. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Registered a boat that never was registered before and they were able to get it done in minutes. I was dreading it thinking it would be a hassle but they knew how to do it and didnt mind the extra work.
Had my appointment canceled at the horrible Belleville branch 20 minutes before my appointment and had to book it to make it to this branch where it was rescheduled to, at the same time, even tho I was already in Belleville and it’s a 30 minute drive. When I showed up I was furious and just trying to stay calm because I thought for sure they would tell me I was S.O.L. I was sooooo wrong. The employees at this branch were extremely apologetic and understanding of the situation. Angie took care of everything I needed to and was very personable, polite, and friendly. Thank you for the great DMV experience!!! That’s a statement I thought I would never utter in my life lol!
They have very poor service. It is very difficult to make an appointment. Hopefully everyone who reads this review and has had a bad experience with this Secretary of State Office form a group to make a formal complaint to someone who can help improve services there and stop their online mediocrity.
This place is so incredibly slow, frozen molasses runs faster than these people. 3.5 hr wait, AND COUNTING, some people have been here waiting for over 6 hours. Absolutely ridiculous. And they need to train their staff better, the entire building does not need to know the customer standing at the counters reason for being here, nor should they be 1 embarrassing the sh*t out of customers and 2 making themselves look like fools. UGH
People are so impatient these days. If you cant wait, go when they open the doors!!!! I care more about the service, knowledge, and integrity of the employees and they have definitely met all of my expectations!!! My wait time was approximately 1hr, this was not a big deal at all. Take something entertaining, Lord knows that there are all types of apps etc. We wait longer than that in amusement park lines for our children, spend more time than that chatting with people... This is business that we are all taking care of...Do what you have to do and stop whining! Thank you for your valued customer service to all of those working at this office. Youre doing a great job!!!
The employees in this office were very professional, courteous and helpful. I was also very impressed by how organized this office was running. Best experience Ive had since I began dealing with Michigan Secretary of State fifty years ago. I never thought I would call a visit to an SOS office a pleasant experience, but this time I can and will.
And I would give a zero if I could. 4 1/2 hours to get tabs, the kiosks are all down, and the number I pulled was 200 from the number they were on. When it was almost my turn, the non english speaking foreigners, there for only 1/2 hour, have 5 tickets with varying numbers taken from the trashcan by the door, left by people who didnt wait. I guess they dont have to wait their turn like the rest of us. Thank you Sos Benson for making this problem worse. I use to only wait 2 hours. They shut down 2 weeks ago to update their system and theyre still saying Im sorry, we are dealing with a new system. Were they not trained on the new system before implementing it? Sad excuse for a sadder state business. Go ahead, raise our rates some more to pay for the roads. What choice do we have but to use this business?
By far the worst SOS I’ve been to. Waited over five hours just to transfer a title and get a plate. Some people we talked to said they had waited for over six hours. Extremely slow and painful. This location does not have a document check like other locations, so you may end up waiting all day just to be turned away because you’re missing a document. They should have someone up front who checks your documents first so you’re not waiting all day for nothing!! Also, there’s no computer to check in on, and no mobile updates available for your wait time. You just have to take a ticket number and wait. Most of the staff were extremely rude and condescending as well. I don’t know why, they get paid to sit there all day while the rest of us waste a whole day there unable to work, or unable to do anything at all. Expect to spend the whole day here. Five hours. That’s ridiculous. Would give zero stars if I could.
The wait time is ridiculous. If I had to guess I would say the average wait time is about 2.3 hours. Its sad to see 4 people MAX working behind the counter. In 40 yrs nothing has changed, even the SOS that offers the call ahead walk in stinks & the Canton mi office call ahead isnt even working anymore. On your day off you will spend at least half of it waiting. Just shameful
This is by far the worst experience at a Secretary of State, I have had, here at the Westland Secretary of State. We arrived before 12:30pm an are still here at 3:15pm. Lines are selected and deselected by the slow workers and NOTHING IS CONSISTENT. The communication of the tellers fits the service they prefer to do and not based on the customers arrival. I would NEVER suggest this location to anyone. I lost an entire day of work trying to be serviced. and waiting. Even if they spoke clearer and repeated the tellers requests, the customers would understand and respond better, without losing opportunities to be serviced. A Customer Service course is needed.
Slow no one there to tell you what forms needed. Time is valuable an is money no reason to waste hours waiting. Packed with few seats left no reason for this at any dmv. It amazing how these places operate. If everywhere did we would have nothing to look forward to but wasting time of our life waiting .first time there an will be last f ik ending better one.
Actually it was running smoother then it used to . The woman that took care of me was very professional and I might have even smiled in my picture but not sure, I had a very good experience , was everything running on time, no they were a little behind but not bad, people relax and find something to be thankful about instead of complaining about everything
This location is basically by appointment only. The entire time I was there they called almost only appointments. The counter timer barely moves but for 1 number per twenty minutes. I walked in and was 100 numbers behind. I came here from Ypsilanti because I sat there for 7 hours without being seen. I guess I wont be voting this year as the appointment date, as I tried to sign up, is two months from today.
Thank you Ms. Diane, Heather, and Mishale for always being the best branch in Metro detroit! Because of you, I have attained 2 cdls through your branch!! Kindness to them and providing them proper documentation will prompt them to do whatever they can to help you. You wont be there long, but please be patient as they follow protocol.Thank you so much!Joshua
I cannot believe how slow and unorganized this location is it less than 50 people in here, Im about to walk out after I finish this review but I needed to vent first. There is 7 people working behind the counters but the lines are not moving. I walked in pulled number 79 they are on number 50 after 20 minutes they are on number 55. Wow, what a disappointment. Please do not come to this location. Most of the workers are doing other things not working on customer.It is unbelievable how the manager is in her computer but unable to help customers. Shame shame shame. Michigan needs to do better.
This place is a disaster. 10 stations for helping customers, NEVER seen more that 2-3 employees actually at the computer helping someone. Staff are rude and snippy. Extremely long wait times. Always seems next to impossible get an Appointment here, yet they call appointment names 5-8 times before calling a single ticket. Will definitely be going to another location from now on.
S.O.S is going to a appointment system and total ignoring the walk in customer. No one at counter and keep calling appointment names. Then they say its a 2.5-4 hr wait time if you stay in office. What about the truck drivers that are over the road and just need to get a new license or something and dont have long to be home with their families. Sometimes things come up unexpectedly and appointments are not always the best choice.
Very professional and organized team.I was able to get in and out within an hour thanks to Clerk Felicia who made sure everyone who had all documents organized before approaching service desk and working fast and efficiently while displaying a very positive demenor! Made my visit a five star visitThanks to team work and a positive mind @work. 12/4/19
OMG. This particular office have some of the best professional people. I am totally shock over this new revelation. Problem is that now these guys have good marks, more folks will come over here. Oh well. On Wed, 1/15/20 had thought they opened at 9am. Well they dont. During this time, they had one of the doors open, because it was very cold on that day. As more folks came into the space where the kiosk used to be, I had the most wonderful and enjoyable conversation at the SOS (Secretary of Wait) office. Had a convo with diff folks in all walks of life and one guy, Jeremiah was one of many with an older guy, from Gaylord Mi, who were a huge source of info - cars, houses, signing titles and the conversation just kept going on, for 1.5 hours. Amazing. This is with about 10 folks in a small space inside the bldg. WOW. Once inside a lovely lady named Jennifer assist me in getting tags. During this time, another lady was corralling the crowd at the point those folks were in and out in less than 20 or 25 minutes. She was a boss in charge. I actually enjoy this one time going to this place. Not sure if this will ever happened again but Im hopeful. ;-) Thank you staff for getting me in and out in less than 45 mins.
Im not going to say this place is slow... But Ive seen stagnant pond water move faster. While transferring a title I celebrated 2 of my own birthdays. But apparently you can schedule a appointment??? Which doesnt happen anywhere else. So if youre coming here, pack a few bags. Or make an appointment a year in advance
It’s a Secretary of State, this it’s slow, but expected.Arrived 15min before opening and the line was going around the building, roughly 45 people in front of me.Was seen around 2hours and 45min later.Normal experience for an SoS.Note: handicap has their own booth and moves those patrons quickly.
SUCH A FREAKING JOKE!! had a 2month wait for license; purchased a private sale used car, took ALL NEEDED ORIGINAL PAPERWORK to license appointment and was told I NEEDED TO MAKE SEPARATE APPOINTMENT FOR NEW CAR TITLE!! CANT GET IN UNTIL DECEMBER!! WAS TOLD CAR CANT BE DRIVEN UNTIL NEW TITLE IS REGISTERED...IN DECEMBER!! OR I have the option to go on line EVERY MORNING FROM 8-NOON to see if there are any cancellations!! Ok!, so I WORK and CANNOT ACCESS A COMPUTER DURING THOSE TIMES--EVERYDAY UNTIL SOMEONE CANCELS!! UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE!! I CANT WAIT TIL SOMEONE ELSE SITS IN THE GOVS OFFICE!!!
I came in at 11:18 am and didn’t leave until 5:24 pm all for a replacement for my drivers license. The service i encountered was horrible. Lol if you are reading this I performed a half of shift in there and should be able to claim it on my income taxes lol. Nothing is organized and I recommend you do not waste your time in this particular location! Don’t think so,go today and prove me wrong!
They are so SLOW AND RUDE... A lady name JENNIFER white lady around 50 or so was so nasty to me I went in their line where I just renewed my tags simple and easy ..No!! she got upset with me because I was looking for my debit card in my mommy purse with a toddler..PICK A NEW JOB lady life is too shory to be nasty to innocent strangers...she serviced me for all of 5 mins total so easy.
Got there at 9am today. 45 minutes of waiting we were told the system is down statewide and they cant conduct any business. No return pass or anything. A frien of mine just informed me the system was not down at the location they were at. The employees lied right in our faces. This state is horrible in every aspect. I cant wait to move
Although you take a number, they create 2 different lines once you are already in a numbered line, makes no sense to take a number in the first place. You will sit and watch many others that come in after you, an hour after you get helped and leave while you are sitting waiting endlessly with your number that was only 21 down the list when you got here an hour and a half ago.
I visited the Secretary of State Westland location on Thursday 10/17/19. I was there for about 2 hrs which was very frustrating, but while I was there I noticed this one employee named Felicia was working really hard and at a fast pace while the other employees were moving slow. She serviced majority of the customers. Felicia was able to help me renew my ID. I asked her if she was the manager of this location because her work ethic was very organized and structured. She was well dressed and looked professional. For Felicia to have only been at the Westland location for only 2 weeks she’s already showing manager potential. Hopefully her work ethic and professionalism rub off on her fellow colleagues. Felicia you’re the best and keep up the great work hopefully when I come back you’ll be a manager!!!
The woman who helped me was very polite and helpful. Her coworker, Jennifer, however, was extremely rude and a know it all. She was rude and short when I was trying to give the lady the correct information, as she wrote it down wrong. If you can help it, see anyone but Jennifer. Wont be coming back here to do business.
Very helpful staff doing everything to serve you professionally and as fast as possible. Long lines, better be prepared to spend 1-2 hours waiting but I think its due to system in general. Long waiting can be partially avoided by coming earlier.Keep going guys, you do a great job!
Incompetent staff. Went twice to try to change my last name on my drivers license with all the documents that were requested. And still spent hours waiting and watching employees ask each other questions on how to properly do it. At the end no one figured it out. I decided to go to a different location with better educated employees.
Worst Secretary of State I’ve ever been too! Avoid the Westland location at all cost! The inkster & canton locations are ten times better. Westland had super slow service, I waited five hours and was treated very rudely by the staff. 6 workers behind the counter and only two of them were actually working. They acted as if they were being forced to be there, it’s your job! Have a little pride about it. I didn’t make you take a job you hate. Very unorganized and unknowledgeable with a side of super slow! I was there to renew tabs, this type of service is unacceptable and I don’t understand how this location stays in business.....
Absolutely zero organization! Even though this is 5 minutes from my home, i would rather save my sanity and go to the one 25 minutes away. This place is a JOKE! I sat, for 4 hours today waiting to get tabs. Their system of lining people up againt the wall is the most idiotic thing ever! So basically, someone like myself, who has been sitting, has to continue to wait while Joe Blow who walked in 5 minutes ago, got lucky he was only there to renew his license! Dont have people pull a number if you’re not going to be fair and go in numerical order! My favorite are the people who walk up to “ask a question” and ultimately get all the answers they need, AND get a return pass! Watched that happen multiple times today. There is no order at this place and never again will i step foot through those doors. Save yourself the headach, go to Belleville or even the one in Livonia!
The slowest location I have ever entered in my entire life the staffing is way to slow for the volume of people that comes in everyday I have been waiting for 2 full hours and still is not even close this is sad. Some of us have to go to work. Speed up or hire help !!!
I knew this was not going to go well when I pulled #50 and the sign said they were serving #79!!! More than 60 people in front of me??? Three people working the counter; people just walking in and going in a line. I guess thats what they call returning customers! After 3 hrs a lady came around & asked if anyone was handicapped. She directed me to the one chair that was by the counter. Worker took my application for a handicapped plate and said it was the wrong form & asked where I got it. I told her my doctor pulled it online. My doctor knew it was not the latest form but she added a note stating this was the only one online and my condition is chronic (lifelong). The worker handed me another form to get signed!!! I went home & ordered tabs online. My doctor will be upset that I didnt get the handicapped plate but Ill be damned if I am going to waste any more of my senior years in that place twice in one month.
Dealt with an extremely rude and unfriendly employee named Laura. No one wants to be at the Secretary of State but you dont have to take your miserable life out on other people. Terrible experience. Would give zero stars if I could. Go to a different branch if possible.
The Westland location is very slow and unorganized. It doesnt matter how long youve been there, they call you according to what you need.If youre Handicapped they make you wait longer. They will call other customers then call the handicapped customers when they get around to it.
They had me fill out the wrong paperwork because the employee at the front did not understand what I was saying. I know I was speaking English I was born and raised here. She gave me the wrong paperwork or didnt know her job. So I had to fill out two different pages of paperwork. I was there for over 45 minutes and still didnt get the job done.
Visiting Secretary of State office is never a pleasurable experience, it is a necessary annual visit. This office had probably the longest wait time out of all the offices I have ever visited. The staff is fairly pleasent to deal with, but the service is painfully slow.
I just pulled #37 & theyre only at #86! Whats crazy is that I only came at this time because Google said it was Less busy then usual & if thats the case is really hate to see it when it says theyre busy. LMAO! Its the SOS so what is there to say that everyone doesnt already know? I know why they changed it to the SOS from the DMV; from the moment you walk in & see the wait and bureaucratic BS thats going on youll be sending out an SOS! Get there 40min before they close because then theyre moving fast & even cutting corners cause they want to get home just like everyone else.
I went there the day after Memorial Day a half hour before it opens and there was a line where I was the 25th person. Doors open at 9 wasnt called up till 10:10 a.m. transfer the title and got plates I paid and left. When I got to my job on Michigan and Newburgh I went for my wallet and my license wasnt there. The lady who waited on me didnt return it. So I had to go back Park walk in and ask her did you keep my license oh yes she said its right here. I believe she should have returned it to my hand. What a bunch of lazy people. She wasnt apologetic or nothing. I know this post review wont go anywhere because we all have to endure the Secretary of State. Its not like you wont have to go there.
I went to renew my license after it got expired. They raised SAVE request and after 10 days USCIS sent response back to SOS. When I went to get my license renewal, they said still you have to wait more days even though they got the response. I really got frustrated because I was really struggling around 15 days without car.Eugeneise an employee in Wayne SOS understood my issue.She really know the end to end processes and having very good understanding and knowledge what can be done to quickly resolve the issue. I really recommend her if someone is struggling with this kind of issues.
Yes, these reviews are accurate. Slooooooow. Its apparently normal for their tack-a-number system to roll over 100, without having a way to indicate which group of 100 (A, B, C, ...) theyre on. So when you pull your number, and it says D17, and the indicator on the wall says 35, you dont know if there are 18, 118, or 218 people ahead of you. Its for sure not 18, btw. Once I realized there were over 100 people ahead of me, I just left. I didnt realize SoS offices were still this bad in some places.This SoS location is the kind that give the SoS a bad reputation.
Can I give zero stars? A older lady with grey short curly hair almost ruined my birthday. Rudely accused my family of being Dyslexic, told everyone that walked in How am I supposed to know, I didnt send it to you! Treated an elderly man with total disrespect, spoke awfully to everyone that walked in, and mind you.. she was the person at the front taking care of answering questions when people walked in the door. Responded to polite people with total sarcasm and disrespect. To the point, she was very verbally abusive to everyone. Thank God for the lady at the Canton Secretary of state for apologizing for her rude behavior. She was the one that told me to right a review because in that line of work there is no tolerance for things like that. It wasnt even her branch and she felt super bad, and even wished me a happy birthday.
They don’t check numbers. People just walk in and get in line. The staff moved very slow and didn’t seem to know what is going on. Other offices have an express line for people who have quick issues this office doesn’t. I was surprised how slow they were compared to other locations with less staff.
After waiting and watching them go out of number order, which is frustrating, they said anyone who is renewing a license or permit or registering to vote can line up on the side in numerical order and start taking moving. So we line up. She checks what were doing, I tell her were registering to vote and I have to renew my permit she tells me oh youre renewing go sit down. But kept everyone else in line who was renewing. So now Im waiting even longer and frustrated because Ive realized Im dealing with incompetent idiots. Like honestly, how stupid was this interaction??
What the hell is the point of pulling a number if they are going to form random lines anyway. In 2 hours the number has changed by 4 on the wall yet 100 people got served before me because they were lucky enough to get out in one of the lines that actually get serviced.
Congratulations probably the worst sos experience ever. Was just here to change address. When I moved to Macomb County went to the location in Chesterfield, was 46th in line and took 57 min. Here was 18th in line and took hour and 20 min. Then as I was leaving they were having people with easy tasks such as mine form a separate line to have them jump ahead of everyone else.
This is a joke of jokes and these people are here just gabbing away like no ones waiting. Then when seems like there are only 30 people waiting 3 of workers leave. And all you have to do is get inline to ask a question next thing you know 3 people jumped the line. This one older woman just takes people how ever she feels, you go ask her a question about anything and next thing you know youryo skipped. And shes helping somesom who was never inline.
When you’re waiting for over 3 hours, the workers behind the counter just walking around trying to look busy , and the lobby is packed it’s time for new workers and more workers!!!! Being here for over 3 hours I still have 87 people in front of me, there’s a problem with the system!!!!
If I could give less than one star I would. It’s an embarrassment how slow it is. If one person comes out to help 2/3 disappear. Make random lines all over the place that people just cut into so if you are being legit your wait time is double. I hate coming here and wish this place had some organization.
Went there yesterday and it was packed!!! Clients have voiced their complaints about this location for 5 years...time to step it up yall, and that includes the employees, Im SURE they have MUCH to complain about. Working under pressure every day is not healthy nor profitable...
This is the worst place in the whole state , first of all no one manage every one is manager , people walking all over it is like the end of the world no body care no one leasten not organized at all waited 2 hour for my number line is not moving at all , they don’t have the nerve to come ask people if they have proper ducoment so they don’t waist there time waiting for nothing and this well help reduced the traffic , people get treated like animals , you ask questions they are very mean, all I want from this is for some one to follow up read all these reviews and send some one to check this place under cover and may be some thing we’ll change thanks .
Service is slow and horrible. I went there today 12-11-18 and people were complaining that they’ve been the for 4+ hours. I was there for an hour and 30 min and in the period only 2 numbers were called. They have about 6 computers but only 2 people actually working. Don’t come here if you can help it
Not only are they slow alls i wanted was a new plate for my mothers car. She had bought a new one an was keeping her old one an alls i wanted was a new plate, tab an all the goos stuff. I get this young girl that has no idea what the heck she is doing an alls she keepa saying to me is that she dont unsterdand what i need. Like are you kiding me how much more clear can i be an then gives me a return pass for a plate tranafer. Which is something i dont need. I will never go there again i dont care if there the last sos in Michigan!!!!!

They dont check numbers and people just walk in and stand in line, while the other people that have numbers wait all day. All the computers they have they only have 4 people working. I would not suggest any one come to this location. Theyre not very friendly either. 👎
Been here over 2 hours had to go to the bathroom no toilet Paper and nothing to wash your hands with do went to the desk to tell someone and she handed me a piece of paper towel and I said what is this and she said to use it to wipe but I already went to bathroom and I checked the mens so maybe I could wash my hands in there but the containers were tore off the wall and no toilet paper there either this place is the worst unsanitary the state should be ashamed The lines are always long and it always takes at least 2 hours to get called up and they are not friendly

2022-07-22The employees have to be trained on how to handle the Drivers License renewal for people on Non-immigrant Visa.I visited this branch today and the lady working there said that she cant do anything to renew my license as she cannot see my visa expiration date in the SAVE portal. This isnt true. She could have done a SAVE Case Check. I tried to explain this to her and she wasnt receptive. Probably, she isnt aware of this or she did not want to do the extra work that hardly takes 2 minutes.I went to the Livonia Super Center and they were knowledgeable on how to handle my case. I highly recommend people on Work/Student visas to visit the Livonia branch.

2022-08-03I am very happy, I didnt have to wait long and I am on oxygen I had an appointment and my opinion is it seem fast that way it is not crowded and waiting for a long time the secretary of state should keep it by appointment only or on line thank you the staff was so kind and helped me with everything have a blessed and safe year.

2022-02-11I walked in, no appointment, made an instant appointment there in person, completed my transaction with great customer service. Ive stayed in most fast food drive thru lines longer than I had to here. This was wonderful! Very considerate to my elderly mother who walks with a walker💯

2022-02-08Visited the S.O.S in Westland and wait time was a maximum of 30 minutes. The agents made sure to alternate between walk-ins and appointments to be sure everyone was taken care of in a timely manner. The agent at the help desk was amazing and made the appointments go even smoother.
