Terrible service . We drove 8 hours and all we wanted was to ride the dunes and we come here to find out vouchers are handed out the day before not the day of, like it said on their website. We were number 71 on the list and the line did not move from the number 5 for 7 hours. After waiting 7 hours we were told we could strap in wheelers on a street and dune legal vehicle and we did but the ranger got mad at us for following to rules. All the rangers were nice and helped us out except for the ranger named Tom. He kicked us out for using a soft strap to tow in our quads. We spent hundreds of dollars and an 8 hour drive for nothing. They gave us no idea of the waiting time and took our money for registering 8 vehicles, $50 a piece and a parking pass and did not help us out at all.
R with a green circle around the letter failed to say that needing a, (I forget what he called it and having to go the day before to get one) only applied if you were wanting to drive your own vehicle on the dunes. A bit of important information left out of his post because I called to find out what that was all about. At this point, the 4 stars is only based on the info about Silver Lake Dunes. Planning a trip up there in August or early September so the rating could change.
For what it is, it is ok. The ORV area is pretty small to ride on a weekend, a lot of people in a tiny park. Views are good but the park its self is a little over regulated. The workers will go through all your coolers and trailers before getting in, so that makes it difficult if you are camping in the area. You must also have an extra state park permit not just the two Michigan ORV permits, lucky they sell those, but its not onsite but down the street so that is a pain. And your flag must also be a ridiculous length and orange, make its hard if you have a dirt bike and 15 foot flag attached. Good thing there is a shop across the street that sells them for a cheap price of $35, rip off. I have rode in a few different states and different dunes and have never seen this amount of regulation.
We stopped by Sleeping Bear Dunes and were disappointed. We stopped here at Silver Lake Sand Dunes and these are real nice big Dunes. Took and Dune Buggy ride with Mac Woods Dune Buggy Rides and had a fun time. Would love to spend more time watching the buggys try to climb the dunes. I would defientley recommand these over Sleeping Bear. Also check put the lighthouse while you are here, we just drove by it but it looked beautiful.
Great area -- voucher system misunderstood!!!!Vouchers are only needed if you want to park in the pit parking lot -- if you are dune ready you can access the dunes by just proceeding to the dune entrance --- so just air down prior to entering orv area -- you can do that at the air-up lot just down road from dune access - good size parking and lots of air stations ----- if you are quading/cycling and not street legal then you have to voucher park to unload in parking area
Whoeve runs the dunes should be fired. here we are waiting to spend money and get a hotel but wont because we were told that you have to come up the Day Before to get a voucher. that basically you got to take an extra day off work or vacation day just to come up and get a voucher on a day that u cant even ride. dumbest idea ive ever heard. great way to not take money into the community

2021-06-04This place is really nice and we had a ride in the “av”(not sure of the name of the vehicle). The ride was well organized and we get to leave our kids to play in a play area until our name is called. The guide explained quite a few things to us.The ups and downs in the sand dunes were enjoyable. The lake on the other side of the dunes was a perfect place to relax and enjoy.

2021-09-19What a place ! Dont let the crowds and souped up vehicles intimidate you, plenty of fun to be had even for 1st timers. First grab flag pole & mount outside of park @ proshop. They will lend you couple wrenches to mount everything! Buzz on over to welcome center and grab ORV stickers(2 = $36).. then off to park right across the roads.Dunes are a blast and something for everyone. Beach is gorgeous and sunsets outta this world. We will be back for sure! Park staff very friendly and eager to answer questions n offer help.

2022-06-04Could promote businesses more and educate staff of all local businesses maybe have better staff communication ? Dont know if we will use this branch in future ? Tend to push silver lake more than local surounding business ? thinking about a billboard ,or Ludington visitors bureau, lake county visitor center these are open more and have structured hours especially weekend Hart is frequently closed like now

2020-09-03Amazing place, have more to offer than dirt bikes and buggies. Would suggest to try ATV for best experience. Book in advance, also have watersports. Overall a good place to chill.

2022-06-22If I could I wouldn’t give them any stars! It’s not worth going to. They charge for everything way too much. It’s a small place for a large amount of money!!Never again. I go to other atv places & this one isn’t worth it. Sooo disappointed

2021-09-06Awesome! Plenty of space for walking out of the way from the vehicles. Quite the incline for the dunes definitely a workout trekking to the tops but its worth it. Great place for running your recreational toys. Place for staging as well.

2019-03-03I came here as a child, but came back as a woman. For 15 years I trekked across the hot sand. Baking, boiling, suffering. It was never ending sand. I learned how to sandboard to travel faster to survive. The food, what little there was kept me going. Until one day I finally reached the edge. I was going to die. I was giving up hope of ever escaping. It was then I realized I was just crawling across a sandbox.

2020-03-05It took us about three hours to climb over all the sand dunes and get to water but it was definitely worth it. The view is so special. People who come should really bring suitable shoes otherwise walking in sand can get a little hard after a while. Admission fee is $20 per car.

2019-07-29Went to the ORV Sand Dunes park. Had a blast driving throughout the ORV park. Wished there were designated park rangers or even paper/posted maps that showed how to navigate the area including how to and where to exit the park. There were a few climbs where the jeep couldnt get any traction to climb the hillside so having park rangers would have been assuring at the very least. There are 3 portable bathrooms near the middle of the park by the lake and again if we had a map or sign that provided some direction would have been helpful.
