Went in for one snail, got good information and great customer service and walked out with 4 fish instead, and my aquarium tank is the better for it! Lol...
Their animal care at the midland location is one of the worst I’ve seen. Reptiles being underweight and dehydrated. They overstock their animals and do not provide proper enclosures while they’re in the store.
This store has always been one of the worst in terms of disrespectful associates. They will purposefully ignore the register, they arent very helpful in helping people pick out food, and the way their animals are set up is abhorrent. Last time I was there, there were 5 ball pythons in the same enclosure. There is ONE kind associate here who is always helpful and I always make sure to speak to her personally.

So much detail to pets! Great selection of all pet foods and very healthy happy critters and birds to choose from. I have never seen birds have such an open happy environment. We bought Russell, a 2 month old ferret! So happy with this store and the employees were sweet as well.

My beautiful girl, Bailey, sheds so much, she wreaks havoc on our plumbing- its become nearly impossible to bathe her at home, drain strainers doing nothing to prevent the mess she makes of our drains. It was then suggested to me that I visit Soldans self-grooming service to bathe her in a tub that isnt mine, use towels and shampoos that arent mine, and make a slight furry mess in a house that isnt mine (all very attractive ideas!). I took Bailey and instantly we were greeted with treats, pets, and directions on all of the different services the grooming room offered. Although she hated every single minute of it (when I told her ride and somehow that turned out to mean bath), Ive never had an easier time bathing her in the elevated tub, with no strain on my back. It was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely be going back! There was a wide selection of shampoos and conditioners (or you can bring your own) and different brushes and such. Upon checking out, she received even more treats and attention after her traumatic experience. It was clean, cheap, and a very fun adventure! She was happy that we did some shopping while we were there, as well!
I used their self-service dog wash, which was a good experience. Plenty of shampoos and soaps of different varieties, brushes and combs, towels and treats. The area was clean and well equipped and the staff were friendly and helpful.

They have a 7 day insurance policy on the fish so if it dies you can take it back and theyll replace it for no cost! I havent had that problem but it is good to know 😌

Soldans has alot to offer , like the dog bathing area so I dont have to use my bath tub at home. They have a large variety of products from very small pets to large animals. Prices are comparable to other stores in the area. And pets are allowed in store.

I buy 1000 crickets weekly for my Bearded Dragons they absolutely love them. I have been buying crickets from Soldans for years first in Mt Pleasant now in Midland.
Bought lots of stuff before, never returned anything.When tried to returned a scratcher (unused) a week after the purchase, the rude manager just said:No receipt, no return, and it is written in a post in the storeUnbelievable that there are still some stores with retrograde management.PET SMART is my new favorite store!
3 weeks ago I bought a baby bearded dragon the lady that helped me didnt seem to know much about her at all. Well i took the baby to a vet to make sure she was healthy she wasnt qe had to hand feed her and she was always asleep she is dead today. I called to see if I could get a new one the guy told me theres nothing he can do after 7days. My kids are heart broken she has rotting mouth so its like u guys set us up to fail.
I would rather pay a few cents more for an item for my cat than going to a bigger store and them never having what I need. I also enjoyed playing with the animals.
I had an excellent experience here at this store. I was with my girlfriend, and immediately she noticed the Ferrets and other fluffy animals they had up front. We were allowed to hold certain animals that were more docile. The ferret was really cute. Tons of toys for every kind of animal. They had lots of different birds, lizards, snakes, and a good array of fish. They also had mice and different sized rats. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back to this place for another visit or future purchase!
If I could leave zero stars I would. This rat was injured for over 24 hours after a customer had squeezed it and the staff had done nothing to seek care for the animal. He is bleeding from his eyes and nose, as well as having damaged ribs. They charged us full price even after saying they would give us a discount to rescue him even as he cried in our arms. The employee Terri was incredibly rude to us for our entire visit and tried to brush off this animals condition as nothing. When we inquired about how well the animals we purchased would survive our trip home, we were just shrugged off with a who knows? The guys that worked earlier in the day on our previous visit were great, they brought up the rats condition right away when they noticed our interest. They were extremely helpful and kind, but I am not pleased at all with how the staff of the afternoon visit treated us.Edit: the animal was visibly bleeding from its eyes and nose. We could feel broken ribs.. That is clearly sick and injured. So you clearly operate that way. The rat passed away that night. Dont lie to try and cover up your wrongs. The iguana I had purchased also had metabolic bone disease (a condition caused by extended poor husbandry) and scale rot, while also severely dehydrated. Veterinarian checked that same week. Also, your staff were the ones who informed of the rat being squeezed. Do better. Dont lie. Just do better.
I thought their prices were a little high but the staff was great and there pets are healthy. Definitely go there over Pet Smart.
I called them up asked if they wanted me to bring them up some parakeets, they told me to bring them in. By the time I got to the store the owner refused to buy the parakeets for me and I had to drive for almost a hour to get there. Plus I had to clip the birds wings the way they wanted, and for what nothing. I just stressed out my birds and had to take them back home.
Bought alot of parakeets and finches only had one loss and they exchanged it no problem. They have a great selection of fish and very knowledgeable personel.
I use the dog wash area and its great! Everything you would need is there, from about 8 different shampoos, ear cleaners, towels, blow dryers to different flea combs, a scale to weight your dog.Employees are helpful and courteous also, my dog likes to go there!!!
Great staff! They have everything you could want out of a pet store. I enjoy the fact that they have live mice and rats so I can ffed my snake. Petsmart just doesnt offer them. I also like the self-service doggy baths!

This is your average pet store- except the prices are crazy! They do have a good selection but you would be much better off to try an online retailer or a different pet store entirely. Their staff (the few times Ive been) have also seemed disinterested and werent able to help me find things in the store or even give me a price of an item. :/ There are better options.
The staff are so patient and informational. Great personalities and friendly atmosphere. We bought 2 turtles for my son for Xmas, so we are in couple times a week. Highly recommend if ur interested in getting a pet or maintaining the ones you have😁🐢🐠

I have been shopping here for pet supplies for years. When we still had our food-allergic dog, they graciously allowed me to return food that he couldnt tolerate and replace it with something else. They are really nice too!

Our Midland store does a great job with their animals and they also help the local animal rescue groups with on site cats, up for adoptions. Sorry to hear staff at some other stores are not as well trained but ours are excellent. Great selection and helpful staff make ours is a keeper.
The dog washing station is the best, they have multiple types of soap, brushes, etc. More than I could ever want. It is worth going here, keeps all the dog fur out of our house.The staff has always been helpful, and polite.
Even though they had a sign posted outside the store saying they required a mask to be worn inside their store, 4 people were inside the store with no mask and no employee spoke with the unmasked people. Please be consistent. If you require a mask, then require a mask. Dont falsify the safety of your store. I will take my business elsewhere until your actions become congruent with your advertising.

Friendly staff, love the multiple animals that are out for you to meet. The only thing that stands out is the slight price difference between them and PetSmart (that is a less than 13 min drive from Soldans). But overall its is a great place to get tour pet supplies!
Above average pet store. They have your typical fish, birds, reptiles along with rabbits and a few others. Prices a tad higher than a place like petsmart. Building are always clean too.
The guy helping us with the ball python was very polite and helpful. He was very patient with my young children and seemed happy to answer their questions. We love visiting Soldans they have a great variety of animals to look at.
Always feel welcome and wanted at Soldans. They treat my pets as their own while I am there and I cant rave enough about the self serve dog wash!!!! Great for dogs like mine. I dont have to go through the hassle of cleaning up and the offer a ton of perks. I.e. (treats, shampoos, conditioner, bows, blow drying and more!)

Clean but Lacking, I was greeted promptly upon entering the door, this was my first time in this store and I was on a mission. I did notice it was a clean store which is appreciated. However out of the 3 people who walked by me, none of them asked if I needed help. I was in there to get fish, in fact found some green terror plecos that I was willing to drop the $65 on...but the associate near me (as I was scanning for an associate to get the fish) was having a personal conversation on her phone and didnt want to help. This is the reason I went elsewhere to spend my money, my next stop had me in and out with fish right away. I doubt I will return for my fish hobby, maybe to see the cats to adopt and give them attention, but thats about it.

I went to the Soldans in Midland Michigan and the first thing i saw in the door was amazing zebra finches and of course i went to look at them and there was about 10 or 15 in there and out of the 10 or 15 at least 3 needed to be taken out they were bloody and missing feathers I dont know if thats how they take care of all their other animals but the one in Bay City Michigan is amazing and take care of their animals.
They always have what you want, or else they can special order it for you. I special order my hamster food because I would rather get bulk and support a small business. And the people who work there are always kind and helpful.

I was very satisfied with the help we received when purchasing a bunny from Soldans, the girl that helped us really seemed like she knew her stuff. When we left with our little bunny, I was happy.There was a bunny there that was free to good home that someone dropped off, came with food, hay, everything but the cage. The girl persuaded us to not take the free bunny, even though my husband was very interested, because she couldnt guarantee its good health. She also had a lot of other reasons why we shouldnt take this bunny. It may get huge, it may be aggressive... etc. She said, our bunnies are guaranteed to stay small, and I can tell you theyre in excellent health, with one of our bunnies, youll know youre getting a good, healthy pet, and it comes with a 7 day warranty.Done. We bought a bunny from Soldans, instead of taking the free one.Well, the bunny died 8 days later. One day after the warranty was up. It was nothing we did. We kept the cage clean, took great care of the bunny. Did everything this girl at Soldans told us to do.When we called and explained what happened, they left my husband on hold for a long time, then came back with, sorry but since youre technically past the warranty, we cant do much. We can offer you another bunny half off.Uhm, no thanks. Im not paying for another bunny that may die in one week. You would think with it being literally one day past the warranty they could make an exception, especially after they pushed us to buy from them when we were interested in the free bunny to begin with. Im disgusted. Now not only are we out a pet, and the money we spent on the pet, but also the money we spent on all the accessories for the bunny. When we couldve took the gamble with the free bunny and been out nothing if it wouldve died (since that bunny came with everything it needed anyway).I know we made the choice to buy from them, but as I said before, they pushed for us to buy from them, and then didnt treat us with understanding or compassion when we had an unfortunate situation occur.Wont buy pets from Soldans again.
Clean and safe place to find your new furry friends
Im not sure what the people above are talking about, but I LOVE Soldans in Midland. The staff is extremely friendly and I know them all by their first name. They have great prices and there animals are cared for wonderfully. Apparently, some people think everything should be absolutely PERFECT, but NO pet store is ever PERFECT. I have gotten 5 of my pet rats from Soldans and they are amazing pets and were very well socialized. I recommend Soldans to everyone I know and they all love Soldans just as much as I do. I have yet to see any mice or rats there with mites. I socialize with them every single time I go there and I know they do NOT have mites. And they are always cleaning fish tanks and taking out fishies that have passed. Not all will live, hell they wont even all live in YOUR tank ! I got most of my fish from Soldans and they all lived long healthy lives, got 3 from PetSmart that passed in 2 weeks. I will always choose Soldans. They are my favorite local pet store.
This pet store has such unique products for all varieties of pets. They also have fair prices for most products. The only complaint is that I wish there was one closer to me!
This is a wonderful pet supply store. This is where we buy a special food for one of our cats. We also come here for litter boxes, cool cat toys, etc. Now, if they sold Swheat Scoop cat litter, wed be happy campers!

I asked to have a light and bulb pulled to quickly pick them up, got home and didnt have the bulb. Another time I was looking for a second snake tank, I was offered a lizard starter kit, which the bedding alone is harmful to the snakes. The feeder mice are a poor selection. &multiple times my service with the young lady has been extremely poor, and she knows very little about any of the products and nothing about reptiles. They need to be more thorough when hiring.
They have a HUGE selection. Must be fresher too because my dogs were thrilled with their Christmas stockings this year.

This is a nice local, holistic pet food store. I feed my dog high quality dog food Acana & Orijen and they are hard to find. They help with special ordering to ensure I’m always able to get my dogs food.
The lady working pulled out a baby ball python and walked away while I was holding it I seen there was a cut on the side of the head with lots of stuck shed then after a minute or 2 I realized there were mites all over this snake ☹️ The snake was housed with 2 other snakes ☹️
The staff at Midland Soldans are so wonderful to me & my three Yorkies each time we shop there. My furkidz especially love Auntie Sheri & Uncle Brian. They get right down on the floor to love on my trio. We love you Sheri & Brian!

Me and my coworker Ryan found an injured Bird when we were leaving work in Clare today ( We work for the Ten16 recovery center ) we werent sure what to do with this injured bird,so l covered the bird up with a shirt and put him in the car with me and called Soldans on the way back to Midland,and Soldans called a lady that does wild life rescues and had her meet me there at Soldans in Midland to retrieve the injured Bird,what a fantastic thing for Soldans and that lady to do,and on my way out,the employees at Soldans told me to let people know that they can always call there for any kind of injured wild animal situations because they probably will know people that can help...Soldans truly rates a 10 out of 10 in my book.
100% support Soldans and their community contributions. The pet baths are convenient, they carry a great selection of toys, food, treats, supplies, etc and are consistently putting together events to raise money for the humane society.

Went there intending to get a couple of invertebrates for my community aquarium. The place was absolutely horrifying. Dead fish and frogs in the aquariums, and the area near the rodents smelled like something had died. the animals that were alive didnt look like they would be much longer. just horrible. I would never buy live animals from conditions like that.
I have gone to soldans a couple of times. I started going because I got a couple fish from Meijer and was told incorrectly how to take care of them. I assumed (shame on me) that a local pet store would know about taking care of fish. I was wrong. We bought 2 female guppies, 1 male guppy (that died 3 days later), 3 tetras (one died within a few days), 2 female mollies and a male platy. Both female guppies ended up being pregnant. Both female mollies also ended up being pregnant. Our beautiful dalmation Molly died a week after she had the babies. And of course they dont guarantee the sex of fish. When MOST decent pet stores keep their male and female fish SEPERATE. Also not to mention I went to pet a guinea pig there and its hair was filthy! And they let children put their fingers in the ferret cage even though they are known to bite. I will never go here again. They are not knowledgeable about their animals, fish especially! I hate not being able to buy local but at least PetSmart trains their staff properly.

Visited the store sometime last week to check out some pet rats, one of them was horribly sick, the hair was unkept, he was sneezing and itching like crazy. Then I look under their cage only to find a pile of dead baby rats on top of another cage. I went over to the bunnies and hamsters and they were dirty and smelled worse than expected, and store employees allowed a child to take the animals out without attendance. How are they allowed to carry these animals?

2022-02-13Well stocked local pet store. Great selection of pet foods for dogs, cats, and more. Lots of dog and cat toys, accessories, treats, over the counter meds, and more. Their self service dog wash stations are great for when your dog is too dirty to even take home for a bath. They sell birds, fish, and small mammals like mice and hamsters. Supplies for feeding wild birds. Friendly employees.

2022-03-18Soldans in Midland is a nice place to wash your pet in their self service pet wash. They supply all the shampoo, cologne, snacks, ear wash and towels your pet will need. They also have a nice blow dryer, weight scale, and brushes to use after the bath. The best part is you dont get wet either as they provide an apron for you to wear. Very nicely priced for the supplies they provide and they clean your mess. Happy Mom and Happy 🐕!!

2020-12-05Soldans has been around my entire life, I used to visit when I was young to see the animals and buy treats for my dog. Id never noticed any issues with them until recently.The primary issue with Soldans is how uneducated the management is. They are there for profit and could care less about the animals and it shows. The employees are generally extremely helpful and caring, the management is the issue. The axolotls are suffering here. I will include photos of the conditions one is kept in -- there is direct light on the tank, running water, dirty conditions, and other fish in its tank. These are all unacceptable and are likely a few reasons for the creatures malnourishment and infections.Axolotls should have gills and swim around consistently. This one has been in the same place since our visit two days ago and the filaments that sit on their gills have been eaten away by fungus or possibly eaten by the feeder fish.Partial water changes should be made once a week and complete changes once a month. It is apparent by the quality of the water and tank that this is not happening. Algae growth, while likely not harmful for other animals, is harmful for axolotls.This water salamander has fungal growths on its gills and filaments and has not been treated in the two days since our last visit. When we discussed this with an employee, they were very sympathetic and understanding. They seem knowledgeable and to care about the animals but unable to do much about the situation due to the management.The light was shining directly into their tank which is unacceptable but management wants them to be seen by customers.Treatment for the fungal growth and starvation would be salt baths for 10 minutes every day, a new dietary plan, and complete water changes but I can almost guarantee this animal will be dead because this store prioritizes profit over their care of animals. They should consult an expert on how to help this animal become healthy once more but they will probably not do so.There are also issues with how their ferrets are being kept -- they are in a smaller glass cage when they once were in a climbing cage which suits their needs and personality better.I hardly wish to hurt a business during a pandemic and I dont expect Soldans to spoil every single animal as the animal likely wont be there forever but they are actively harming animals like axolotls and I dont know how else to get help for them.DO NOT buy an axolotl from pet stores like Soldans and go to a breeder who is knowledgable about axolotl care.
