Positive: Nice large comfortable room well furnished with refrigerator, mini stove, and large desk area. Free washers & dryers were nice surprise and appreciated. Good location close to Whole Foods and Panera. Negative: Shower had low water pressure. Building under renovation so a little messy in some areas around building.
Probably the most creepy and disgusting night I’ve ever spent in a hotel. The grossest thing is the incredibly strong mix of ancient cigaret smoke odor combined with cheap deodorizer that you smell even as you approach the entrance in the parking lot. I took a photo of the gurgling electronic “air freshener” that was plugged into the socket above the desk, which I will attach to this review if possible. We disconnected it right away due to the nauseating odor. We had reserved two nights, but are now staying in a nearby hotel that is lovely. You couldn’t pay me any amount of money to stay in a Sonesta ever again. Strangely, there are two Sonesta locations in Ann Arbor within five minutes of each other. We mistakenly went to the wrong one first. When I walked into the lobby at the wrong location I had to wait several minutes while an irate guest yelled loudly at the check-in clerk that the accommodations were not suitable for his family. This location does not actually have a lobby. It’s more of an entryway with a tiny counter from which you have to make a telephone call to rouse the only employee we saw in the place. I suspect this building, which is quite old, was built for short term housing, maybe for chain smokers who couldn’t stay anywhere else. I’ve travelled all over the world and this was without any hesitation the worst and stinkiest hotel experience I’ve ever had.
When you walk in it smells of cheap cleaner. The desk is behind a window like bad things happen there. Now the worst - - when we got into the room and opened the pull out bed it was full of blood. The mattress looked 20 years old. OMG get me out of here!!! Name brand hotels are the same price and not gross.
This hotel is perfectly nice but off the beaten path and located in kind of a maze of parking lots. We only stayed here because the Graduate rates were super high for the night due to an event on campus or something and we didn’t want to splurge. And this place also takes pets! They have a nice gym and a grab and go snack room of sorts. It’s not a bad place at all, and actually perfectly serviceable, but the location just isn’t ideal for walking out the hotel door and having anything to do (there is nothing).
The front desk staff is amazing. They are attentive and incredibly kind. Unfortunately, they cannot save this horrible property. They are still converting parts of the hotel, which they have separated by curtains, but the aesthetic is very unappealing. My room smelled absolutely awful. I mean awful. It smelled of stale cigarette smoke and was nasty. The shower wall had other peoples hair on it. The towels were not clean. This is an extended stay property, not a hotel. Avoid this location at all costs.
Positive: The kitchette was convenient/ full refrigerator. Negative: Room was filthy. Clumps of hair on flight upon arrival. Dirty towels hanging. The room had a horrible smell - we opened window but could not get rid of smell. The chair in room was falling apart (literally the leather was ripped off the arms).
Honestly cant beat what youre getting for the price here. A suite with a kitchenette (small stove, microwave, full size fridge, sink), the largest desk Ive had in a hotel, access to a good number of laundry machines (you just have to provide your own detergents), and decent wifi speeds that had no trouble with video calls. For an extended stay, Id definitely recommend for anyone looking to get a good value.
Im glad to finally be writing a review. I stay here frequently when in town. First, the rooms are great. Full kitchen, full size fridge w/ice maker, stove top, dishwasher, fully stocked kitchen, utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups. Add in a comfortable bed, a built in usable desk, and tiled bathroom. From an amenities viewpoint, the gym is small, but serviceable, the laundry is FREE!, and there is a pantry with refrigerated, frozen and pantry goods... mini 7/11 ... all on the honor system. Take what you like, fill out a slip with what you took. Add to this they are pet friendly, and this place just feels like home.
This property is in a great location and the customer service was great, but unfortunately the property was run down and I checked out immediately. The room smelled like cigarettes , the kitchen had debris from the last person, and the bathroom was stained yellow. Unfortunate because of the location and price .
Friendly staff, great location, all the comforts and conveniences of home. This is the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed at, and I’ve been around the block. I personally love the layout, it has great functionality. Lots of work space, fully stocked kitchen with full size fridge, fairly priced and well stocked convenience items, on-sight gym, ample parking. Reasonably priced, great value. Coon operated laundry. Great atmosphere. Very clean. I thought I would never say this about a hotel, but it was QUIET, and I was located right next to the front desk!
Wow, how have I never stayed at Candlewood before? Free laundry and a loan zone of pretty much any amenity you might need. They had blenders, fans and board games for loan. The decor was way cuter than most hotels too. Very home away from home. Ill be looking for this chain more often on my travels.
Intended to stay for about 2 weeks while my roommates were quarantining in our apartment. Had to leave a week early because I was scared to continue staying here. While the facilities/ room was nice, I had witnessed the night front desk manager not wearing a mask multiple times, and when I needed to get my room key recharged he did not put one on while interacting with me. This same evening I also witnessed a guest trying to sell drugs to the night front desk manager. At another time I saw this same guest get into a loud verbal fight with someone he brought in while trying to sell him drugs. I had three grown men staying at the hotel harass/ catcall me while waiting for the elevator and eventually the experience was so sketchy I had to leave early. My experiences during the day with the staff were fine, but as a young female student who had to leave come back to the hotel late at night, I felt genuinely unsafe interacting with some of the other guests/staff late at night. There were also multiple guests not wearing masks throughout the hotel and it smelled terribly like cigarette smoke. Would hear people yelling/ partying late at night as well.
Last month Candlewood reverted back to Sonesta and elevated to another level!Rooms are extremely clean and they had the door sealed so customers knew no one had been in the room once it was clean.Kellen, the desk staff was excellent in every way. When the icemaker in my room was broken, he did not hesitate to change my room and offered to assist in moving my luggage. They have a pantry where snack and did items are about what they cost at a gas station and laundry room.Well done Sonesta and well done Kellen! Keep up the great work!
A fine place to stay. The staff was amazing and super friendly. That was the best part for sure. Amenities were good, and the system to borrow games is nice if you want something to do with the family but didnt bring anything. The only thing that was a negative for me was there were some odd smells in the hallway were I stayed. It wasnt constant, so it could very well have been from another guest, but it was off-putting when walking to and from my room.
Love this hotel! Its a little away from the downtown crowds and the prices are great! Near quite a bit of local shopping and restaurants. The rooms are like a mini high end apartment. Love that there is almost a full kitchen in the room with everything you need for a meal plus more. They also have a little store where you can buy everything you need- pizza, ice cream, fresh fruits, extra toiletries, etc. Its also on the honor system so you just write down whatever you need on a paper and its charged to your room.Staff was very friendly and helpful whenever we needed something. There is no pool or much of an outside lounge area. This seems like its here for a little longer stays than just the night.Bonus- they have this little locker area where you can borrow blenders, crockpot, board games, toaster oven, wine glasses-all kinds of stuff! I thought that was pretty cool. Never seen anything like it at another hotel.Would definitely recommend and stay again!
The staff (specifically Crystal and Kim) were extremely nice and hospitable and even offered to watch my puppy for most of the day when I realized I had to stay in Ann Arbor several hours after checkout and was asking about doggy daycare places. These are definitely the kind of people you want to look out for you and have your back when traveling to a new city. The rooms were also spacious, comfortable, and clean -and quality toiletries were offered. Sweet cleaning staff too.
The front desk staff is great. They are the reason I did not submit a 1 star. During my stay here I stayed in two rooms and was moved 3 times. The first room had a disgusting smell. The second room when they moved me had a roach in it and I was not gonna bring the lil guys family home with me. The last room smelled like food. I dealt with it because I knew I was going to cut my 3 week stay short at this establishment. To me the house keeping is sketchy at best. However, the ladies at the front desk did everything they could to help and accommodate me. They deserve a raise for what they put up with.
I travel a lot and this is by far one of the hotels I wouldn’t recommend and my family travels a lot .The room wasn’t properly made , the comforter was stained and washed to be used all over again. The soap holders in the bathroom have mold. There was no fitted sheet for the bed just a mattress sheet .The pillowcases were stained of old makeup. The hallways smelt of a strong odor along with smoke .Left to grab food and no one was behind the window to ask if anything was needed or changed.I brought my PlayStation thinking I could hook it up but when I turned the television on it was dented and when I went to the front desk to ask about a different room and inform of the issues NO ONE was behind the front desk window and I went to leave a note as there is no paper or pens in the rooms which huge inconvenience. The WiFi was super slow and only a few episodes played on Netflix before I just gave up .Not a recommended hotel .
Its an amazing hotel, but I wouldnt be comparing this place to something like Four Seasons in New York.I came here just for a music audition at University of Michigan and the hotel was there for everything I needed. I slept perfectly, had the amenities I needed like a hair dryer and shower supplies. I didnt need much so keep in mind that I had very little expectations. And for the little expectations I had, this place met them perfectly and delivered well, but that should say something about whether youll want to be here for a leisure stay, because thats where there might be a problem.Theres no daily room service (at least for my stay), the overall building look is eh, and the only extra features they have is a mediocre fitness gym and laundromat. Otherwise, you get your food elsewhere, everything is elsewhere except where youre showering and sleeping. But Id be lying to you if I said this place doesnt serve its function very well, because it sure did it for me
Would not take much to upgrade the experience here. This is the second Sonesta Suites couch with erm, toothpaste on it when I arrived. Was not happy to find a dishwasher JAMMED with dishes and powdered detergent caked on some of them. There are very few free weights left so hope you can improvise. Ann Arbor seems to be cleaner but Detroit has a better fitness center.
This place has all of the amenities that I always have wanted in a hotel. Its designed for long term stays, so it is all suites that include full kitchens. Big refrigerators with freezers and ice makers, a two burner cook top, plates, silverware, pots and pans, a full size dishwasher, big nice microwave, garbage disposal in the sink, the works! The whole room was very clean, the bed was legitimately very comfortable. We couldnt be more impressed with the room. The whole place is pet friendly. They have an outdoor patio with a barbeque grill for guests to use. A nice gym. Free laundry machines for guests. Fast Wi-Fi. This place would be perfect for a small family with young kids. On top of all of this, its cheap! I would recommend this place to anyone, and this is going to be my familys first choice when we are looking for a place to stay while traveling.
After recently staying at a Candlewood Suites in Columbia, MO, I was excited to try another. I was not disappointed. The room was spacious and well-appointed for my single nights needs. While there appeared to be many guests at the time of my arrival, my room was quiet and I enjoyed a good nights sleep. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Location was near restaurants and U of M Medical Center. The only caveat to comment on was the slim choice of tv stations.Overall I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
Very convenient location close to the freeway with nice room amenities. I love that you can take dogs there with you which is a huge convenience. The room was in great condition just starting to look a bit worn and dated. Our hand towels had a few weird stains on them but no big deal.
Biggest knocks: the rooms werent as big as expected. The bed was a double. A bit of a disappointment. But the desk was fantastic and big. The closet was roomy, the bathroom was clean and roomy. A nice little workout center and the place is pet friendly. Overall I think the place was worth the price to stay.
I spent two weeks here on a business trip. The previous 3 years I have spent my business trips in other hotels, and I MUCH preferred Candlewood. As a business traveler these rooms are much more suited to me. I loved having a full kitchen and larger bath instead of another wasted queen sized bed. What I enjoyed most was the nice leather recliner and large wrap around desk with TV. Having to spend a weekend here and many nights it was nice to have somewhere to lounge and take in a few movies and football games.I actually liked that housekeeping visits were at a minimum, and the day I finally thought it needed it they were already there. The gym was sufficient for a couple of weeks (as good as any hotel these days), though I was kind of hoping for a pool. The only complaint, and it is so minor I wouldnt bring it up if it werent humerous, is that the front desk staff wasnt helpful in suggesting restaurants. Despite knowing Ann Arbor somewhat well, I always like to ask for suggestions on nice restaurants (the company is paying, right?). When I asked the young lady she said Subway to which I promptly replied No, I mean if money were no object. She thought and then responded with Olive Garden! Yeah, I felt bad for her...
Room was clean and staff were friendly. However everything sounded squeaky (doors, dollies, etc). Walls were thin, rooms were loud from the fridge and ac, and the elevator stopped working for awhile with no explanation. Thankfully it started working soon after. Definitely liveable, especially if youre planning on staying long term (rates are reasonable).
Pleasantly surprised. Very impressed. Everything we ate from appetizers to dessert was superb. The combination of flavors. Presentation of food. Uniqueness on how it was prepared. The seasonal vegetables They really nailed it. What a great dining experience!! Restaurant is cute and cozy. Great date night place!
Overall a good hotel for the price. The service was great. There is a small gym and free laundry machine access. The pantry has lots of food and drink options from which to choose for a reasonable price. There are several restaurant options within walking distance also. The rooms look like they were updated in the past few years but they have some issues. My bathroom had a loose floor tile and the caulk around the tub was in rough shape. The kitchen in the room had a large refrigerator, stove, microwave, plates and utensils. There was also a large screen tv with a dvd/vcr player. Overall Id recommend this hotel if youre looking for an inexpensive room for an extended trip.
I had to go back and edit my review because this place has become even more terrible. Candlewood Suites is the worst hotel ever. First off, the housekeepers act like they arent there to clean the rooms. Then of course their wifi is absolutely terrible and when I talked to them about it, instead of offering assistance they told me nothing could be wrong with it because no one else has complained. Now they are complaining about the smell of kitty litter. Newsflash - we are in a cramped room. We have to keep the litter in the closet. When we clean the litter, we put it in a trash bag and toss it in the trash can down the hall from our room because THATS WHAT HOUSEKEEPING TOLD US TO DO. theyve even complained about us not having a pet in the room sticker on our door despite them not giving us a sticker in the first place, so how would we know? If this is a pet friendly place, they need to stop complaining about the actual presence and evidence of pets being here. Whats next? Are they gonna tell me my newborn needs to be quiet and stop crying so much? The funny part is when you first walk into the lobby it smells like molding cheese, so the complaint about the kitty litter is ironic. If you want to stay at a Hotel California, this is the place for you!!
This hotel just kicked out of the UofM hospital staff that were staying here while working on covid-19 floors. They gave no warning or reason, they didnt even inform the people staying there. They just refused to let UofM extend the healthcare workers stay which they had originally agreed upon. Everyone had to find new places to stay, move all their things, while still working. Thank you, I will be sure to tell everyone I know how my stay went.
I had to make an unexpected trip to Ann Arbor. There was a large event scheduled and everywhere I called was booked. When I checked Candlewood, only one room remained. I am so glad I took it! The room was extremely clean and comfortable. It had absolutely everything I could want (furnished kitchenette, fully furnished bath, comfortable bed and chair, and plenty of desk space with ports for my computer and gadgets). Ryan was at the desk when I checked in. He was very nice and helpful. The Candlewood is adjacent to a small strip mall with several restaurants (including Panera Bread-one of my personal favorites!) The mall is around the corner and its surrounded by restaurants. This Candlewood Suites is convenient to EVERYTHING. This was my first experience staying at a Candlewood Suites-but it wont be my last! FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!
The AC was not working, so they suggested we take the window stops off the windows so we could stay cool. Then they came and suggested we sleep with the windows open tonight since matience wouldnt be able to have it fixed until midnight. They couldnt move us to a different room, said they have zero vacancy. We have been driving for 3 days and have to wake up at 5 am for work and didnt not expect to have these problems with a hotel room. We ended up leaving and going to a different hotel but they said we could still end up being charged for the night. Very unhappy with this hotel and they have things have went down tonight. I will add the receptionist was helpful and even assisting matience to get the problem fixed, the problem was her supervisors.
Do not stay here, Ive taken a consulting job 6 months ago and have seen this place go from bad to worse. They are currently going through a constructing (remodeling) phase and just yesterday (the 4th of July) had all 3 exits blocked due to the tiling being replaced...it was very inconvenient not to mention highly unorganized and like the entire hotel is very POORLY MANAGED! The only GOOD things about the hotel is the free laundry and wifi...except the wifi is REALLY slow during peak hours. The staff is just this side of caring..and Im being nice. Considering it is conveniently close to my job, I definitely have been looking elsewhere...I honestly dont know how Ive put up with it so far... Oh yea, they misplaced some of my belongings and arent/havent even offered to help or actually bring some concern to my lost/stolen items. I normally never write bad things about businesses or people but I feel its necessary to share this mediocre to poor hotel experience.
Not the best. Most of the staff are grumpy and rude. Except for Ryan and Kaylie. Actually Kaylie is the most up beat and positive person Ive had as a hotel front desk person in a while and is the only reason why I added another star.If you are here for an extended period of time, you get room service once a week and sometimes not at all. Also there arent any ovens in the room and a limited supply of countertop ovens or toasters to borrow. No breakfast but there is some expensive junk that can be purchased downstairs where the laundry room is. Would love to fund another place to stay while here but it is close to some restaurants and shopping.Last thing if Michigan is playing on a Saturday its nearly impossible to reach the hotel after the game, the roads are blocked and the entrances and exits (exit 175) to 94 are blocked off. Keep that in mind before you book or travel to and from the hotel on a Saturday when MU has a home game.
Friendly staff. Close to campus and grocery store. Came here because of price and being dog friendly. They have bowls for your dog if you forget to bring one. I like that there is also a fridge, microwave, stove, a pot, plates, and even tupperwares! Have been to other Candlewoods and I dont mind going to others when I travel.
Decent hotel, a bit pricey, clean, kitchenette well stocked with dishes and utensils, walls are thin, had a couple of maintenance issues which were handled very quickly, with great courtesy and professionalism. Within 15 minutes of the hospital and plenty of restaurants. Not what I would call walkable.
Plenty of parking for a 26 ft box truck and FREE washers and dryers. supposedly they hosted President Bush and his entourage while they visited the area they have a plaque on the wall to prove it... food choices are a little limited but the ones that are around are good.. Applebees and Panera were perfect...
My husband and I booked a room to stay here but then our plans changed and we cancelled the reservation not even 24 hours after we booked. Even though we are cancelled and have our cancellation confirmation the still charged our account. We didnt see when we booked that if we cancelled they would still charge our account for the rate. Thats very shady business practice and we will never stay at your hotel or any of affiliates.

2022-02-27Stayed at the hotel because the price was right. We were not expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Jaleeyah was friendly and helped us get checked in. When we got to our rooms we saw a sticker on the door that said the room was sanitized and when we got in we had a cute note from the housekeeper Durance who cleaned the room. Room was spacious just lacked a pullout couch that you find in most newer hotels. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Store was nice and had coke products YES! Hotel was quiet and we both got some great sleep. Checkout was seamless and quick. I recommend this hotel for anyone coming in the area.

2022-02-25Warm, cozy, comfortable, my 3 day stay wasnt bad. Not much reaction or contact with staff other than at check in or passing the front desk and this couldve been because of Covid protocols. This means you had to take care of your own room while staying there and that was fine with us. The desk was willing to help with anything you needed. Rooms with kitchenettes and a full size refrigerator so a good place for longer stays. My only complaint was that I was unimpressed with the shower(head), super low water pressure which couldve been a water saving measure but man! I usually take advantage of a good shower at hotels.Still would try another stay.

2022-07-06I simply adored my visit here. I loved the room!!!!!! Everything was spotless! This little kitchenette was absolutely perfect! The help at the front desk was like a friend I had never met. She made me feel right at home!

2022-03-22Positive: Easy location for accessing downtown Ann Arbor and trips to Detroit. Loved the convenience of full size refrigerator, stove top burners and microwave. Good size room and bathroom. Might be somewhat aged but overall very comfortable. Very friendly staff! Negative: We shared an inside door with neighbors who were laughing loudly at times late in the evening.

2022-03-01Positive: Hotel employee was training Desiree and they were both lovely, friendly, and super helpful! Truly great assets to the company! Cute store with lots of food and toiletry options and very nice gym. I try to avoid ¿pet friendly ¿ but it smelled fine. F Negative: Teeny tiny (but comfortable) beds. The desk in the room was bigger than the two beds combined lol. But it said double beds and that¿s what they were

2022-02-27Had a great stay and asked the staff how I could tell the world about it and they said Google and Trip Advisor. So Tiffany this is a review just for you :) Had a beautiful stay with great people working and clean rooms. Everyone was so nice and pleasant. Only bad thing was the internet was moving slow. We will be back in the Spring for our daughters graduation!

2021-11-22Stayed with a friend and it was decent. They had clean rooms and some upgraded furnishings in the lobby with modern paintings. The mini-store and laundry room was convenient on the first floor. The bed was comfortable and kitchenette was also nice but there was no oven of course just small stove-top. I would prefer having complimentary shampoo and hygiene items available for guest that indicate the ingredients on the back because I have allergies. Also, when I was checking in the front desk clerk came around the front without her mask on and she could of easily handed me the updated door key card and kept a distance for better precaution. There’s still some appearance updates I would recommend to earn beyond 3 stars. I believe it’s a 2.5 hotel at best even though while booking on third part sight I saw 3 stars. The price I paid was worth it.

2022-03-08Started one night, but wish we would have booked the week here. The staff was courteous and friendly and check in was quick. The studio room we had was spacious with a small kitchenette (full of dishes), large work area, and two twin beds. The Wi-fi was spectacular. Its a great place for a longer business trip. We would totally stay here again. The only things that werent great were the beds (moderately comfortable) and the shower water pressure (pretty poor). The price was incredibly affordable as well. Not a five star resort, but gave it five stars for value and exceeding expectations.

2022-02-23Great Staff ad clean hotel! This hotel has everything you need to get away for a few days. It is tucked away and very quiet. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. I will be back!
