I have been experiencing this Americana/China cuisine for over 40 years. I find they always have crisp vegetables, fresh rice. I usually buy two meals and they last me for 4 to 5 days I always buy some hot and sour soup its good for your digestion. The Establishment is always clean, smells good ,clean bathrooms, courteous staff this is a hard-working local owned restaurant. The prices are reasonable and you could easily take a family to eat out there.
My family and friends have been going here for years! They always offer such a great amount of food for the price! My favorite is their sweet and sour chicken dinner- or their generals chicken! Not only is their food good, their staff is great as well (they would ask about my brother when he moved to Chicago!) This is a nice place to check out!
Food was excellent! Best this side of Kalamazoo. I asked for super spicy on the Szechuan and they made it so spicy the sauce was red - and still maintained its flavor. The extra spice did not take over vcd the flavor of the dish. The egg rolls- not sure where to begin! Big, fat and full of veggies and flavor. I havent eaten here in years but these owners got it going on! Reasonably priced and great food!
I had the worst experience with them. I would never eat there again. First I ask for pepper steak dinner and got a lot more peppers than steak. The peppers were old and rotten. I literally only had 7 pieces of steak. When I called to tell them the lady was rude and disrespectful. I wouldn’t recommend eating there.
I asked the lady if the food was made to order because I was 5 mins away to get an idea on time and she started cussing me out. I didn’t understand so I went inside the store and apologized because I didn’t mean to disrespect her with that question and she denied me service and was yelling! Told me to leave
We usually order takeout. When I call they answer the phone within a couple of rings. When I get there theyve got the order ready. Usually before I arrive. It takes me about 10 minutes to get there. The food is great and service is wonderful. Nice place to go.Dinner for two for the price of one elsewhere.
The food is amazing. Best crab Rangoon Ive ever had. Dont come here unless you are very hungry! You get a lot of food for not a lot of money! Hot n sour soup was delicious. Staff was super friendly. Very quick service. We drove a bit out of our way to get here and glad we did!
South China is like family.Ive been coming here for several years (and my parents have been coming even longer). I walk in, they know me and they greet me and theyre always happy to see me, and they do this with all of the customers they see on a regular basis. Its pretty much your standard American Chinese, nothing fancy. But, they do it right. All of the deep-fried sugary goodness you could hope for.I will say though, this place is actually far above average Chinese if you go for stir-fry style dishes. Szechuan and Mongolian style here is top notch. The flavors and colors are all spot-on.They deserve far more credit for how good they do with this style dish. Ive really only ever been to one other general American Chinese restaurant that I feel is on their stir-fry level, and it was in a small suburb on the north end of LA. Take that for what you will...but mostly just take yourself to South China and get some Mongolian Chicken!
The food is decent but itll be a while before I ever go back. A friend of mine and I dined there and the service wasnt that great this day. We were on an hour lunch. When we were given menus, the worker told us shed give us a couple of minutes. Well a couple of minutes turned into me having to go look for the lady. Then she asked me if we were ready like she was waiting on us for this long. No miss... weve been waiting on you. Then I paid with my debit card for my meal. The waitress told me where to put the tip... no... she was actually telling me to leave a tip. Uh??? How do you tell me I have to leave a tip? Since when is tipping mandatory? You own the business lady. You dont pay staff to wait on people and you dont have staff who depends upon tips to survive, so where do you get off telling me that I have to leave a tip? Ugh... so rude. I need a moment.
Ladies and counter .... are very rude.... they talk really fast and I always feel rushed when orderThere is obviously a language barrier and I wish they keep that in mind when dealing with customers and people over the phone .... having a little more patience goes a long way because the food is great at this restaurant but the service that they give could be a lot better !!!
Worst service and rudest owner/worker ever!! Food wasnt even good and cost more than it was worth! I took my kids out to eat and we were told we couldnt have 2 bags for our food unless we were in different households! We had 6 containers and 3 fit in one bag. Never will go again! We were the only customers in store eating and still got no service!! Place is a joke the whole time we were there all we heard was that lady yelling at customers and being so mean rude and disrespectful! Give it a 0
The place on my fridge where the takeout menu here is located is a well deserved resting place until it is time to call and order again.I discovered this place with doordash when I first moved to Parchment/Comstock area as I wondered about the quality of Chinese takeout in the area. I tried here first, then one or two more places, and there was a clear winner.I have only two complaints:1) it is VERY difficult to get in and out of here during busy times on Riverview, moreso out. If you have to turn left to leave the place, figure out another way. There are some back roads that will get you around quicker than trying to turn to the light for Gull road.2) they stopped delivery services here shortly after I tried it. This actually lead me to choose one of the other places around here for a moment, but I realized after two or three times of this that it is worth calling and picking up from here rather than just having it delivered. It ends up cheaper, and it definitely tastes better if I say so myself.Always super friendly, very reasonably priced, a good selection of your Chinese-American favorites, and fast takeout have won my heart, and my soul is clearly filled by the delicious food. This is, in my opinion, the only Chinese takeout to get in a ten mile radius.
I have been eating here since I was a kid. The food is still very good. The chicken noodle and the egg drop soup is awesome to say the least. The chicken and broccoli I had last week taste exactly the same as it did 20 years ago, bravo south china, thought we lost you when the building burnt down. thank you for rebuilding!!!!
Good food rude service by the front desk lady when I asked for some fresh rice, that I was willing to pay for and she immediately jumped to conclusions and thought I was trying to get something free or something of that nature and kept telling me the rice is fresh and NO MORE! I was like what is going on? She yelled and I asked for fresh rice and she said leave.
Got a to go order of pepper steak, much more pepper than steak, and the steak is tough, south china special fried rice which is super dry and looks like its been sitting around all day and the egg roll leaves a funny after taste in my mouth. I actually also ordered egg foo young l, but the cashier was too busy talking to another employee to get that part of the order, and I didnt realize it until I got home. In other words, dont waste your money, youll only be mad like me and my family are right now.
The food has been great. Ive had about 10 different entrees since I found this place, and they have all been good. I highly recommend Mongolian Beef, War Su Gai (fried chicken in almond gravy) and the Shrimp Kow (white sauce like moo goo gai pan). The egg rolls are my go-to for the combos, but shrimp toast and teriyaki chicken on a stick are excellent sides. The crab rangoons are also good and come in size of 36 as a side but you only get 1 with the combo. They do have more filling than standard rangoons, but the egg roll wins if I have to choose. Its definitely a family run place and friendly. Plenty of seating similar in setup to a lot of mini-mall style Chinese restaurants. Their take-out is super fast. I call ahead and dont think its taken more than 10 minutes each time. Altogether its an excellent, affordable spot right on the eastern edge of downtown. Just wish they delivered downtown.
The Chinese owners of the South China restaurant are so sweet and helpful! This evening we drove there to pick up our take out order, and I, unknowingly, locked my sisters keys in her new Buick. When we went into the restaurant, I used the restaurants phone to call for my husband several times to come save us. He was up in the attic putting in new light cans for her kitchen. So he didnt hear the phone ring. The owners took pitty on us and gave us all a ride to my sisters home to get her spare key. Thank God for understanding, kind people! Plus, when we all sat down to eat, the food was so delicious that well be sure to go there again.⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️
On the eastside of Kalamazoo. Clean safe area. The food is tasty. Especially the eggfoo you g. They give waaaay tooo much gravy, dont order extra gravy. Chicken egg foo young is what 8 get. Fresh fried egg eoll is fullof cabbage and got and crispy. Oh, teah, also order tye egg drop soyp. Its also deli ious and light and hot. A delicious light soup. We love south Xhina. Located near Walgreens and Mcdonalds and Lees chicken, another fav of ours.

So we thought we would give this place a try. Food was ehhhh...and then half way through my sweet and sour chicken I find a piece of metal in my food!!! It could of killed me...or my 6 year old son!!! Called the restaurant...they really couldn’t understand us. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE IF GOD DON’T EAT HERE!
They are very rude i had stop going for a long while but decided to go back got a different yen yang lady and the food was not good i guess they thing we are supposed to take what they dish dog people i didnt but I will never go to any more them no where Evertake my stuff
I just went to south china yesterday and I have officially decided id never ever go into that place again. The waitress was horribly rude to my DISABLED mother (mom tried to suggest a change to the sweet sauce and egg rolls) and the waitress started snapping at her telling her everyone liked the sauce and it was homemade. Mom simply said Ive been eating here for years. and this is not what Ive had before, I think it would be better changed back to how it was And so our waitress says Whatever! and storms off into the kitchen where she began yelling in Chinese (assuming about us)...DONT support eating places like this, go to Hunan Gardens at texas corners instead, W Q Ave.! Ive had my best restaurant experiences at Hunan.
As I was paying my bill the waitress pointed to the tip section and I just signed my name ( I was planning to tip cash) she asked me was I going to tip her on my card I said no she told me “if you’re not going to tip then don’t come here” VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNCALLED FOR IF YOU DON’T LIKE HOW MUCH YOUR GETTING PAID GET A BETTER JOB I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN

2022-08-13No cars in the parking lot when we showed up, even though there was a dining room no one sat there but us. It was all takeout. The woman who took our order when I asked what was in some of the dishes would point to pictures on the menu. The hot and sour soup was really thick like a stirfry sauce. We asked for vinegar and the woman looked confused. Went back to the cook and brought us some. I asked for some Chinese mustard and she pointed to these little packets that were on the table. I asked if she had some real Chinese mustard, again she went back to the cook and return with some. She was very happy the cook just made some for you she said. The chicken fried rice was flavorless and I had the orange chicken which there wasn’t a single peel on the plate. My wife didn’t care for her food much either.

2022-03-26The beef tasted like it was spoiled. The egg rolls were dry and bland. They rushed through taking our order. The sauces on the chicken tasted off.

2018-01-24Amazingly fast! Couldn’t believe it. Super dank food for the price. For sure a real good deal. My little brother says the chicken fried rice was good. Btw, they said ten minutes for pick up and apparently they meant it! Be wary, don’t let your Rangoon’s get soggy!

This is our go to take out Chinese spot in Kalamazoo. Ive been there enough they always throw in almond cookies for my daughter. Ive picked this up for my family and they couldnt believe how affordable and delicious the food was.
