Staying here was one of the most peaceful and enjoyable stays in my almost 46 years of life! I have been many places and stayed at many hotels and lodges, this one leaves them ALL in the dust! From breakfast to scenery, and friendly staff you will not be disappointed staying here. The room was spotless, they have coffee, iced tea and water available all day and evening. The pool is beautiful and so relaxing. They offer a bonfire on the back deck overlooking the river going 24/7 We will be back, felt like family. Thank you so much for a great time! Well done!
This was supposed to be our first stop on our vacation earlier this year. However, I planned part 1, my husband part 2. He accidentally told me the wrong weekend for his part, so we were faced with heading home and bummed out kiddos. That is until Staffords was able to book us into another room (The suite we were in was already booked) and saved the weekend! We stayed 2 more days and already have a Christmas vacation and a spring break vacation already booked! The staff is super friendly, very helpful, and the hotel is absolutely beautiful. Our favorite vacation here is to just come and stay, use the pool, play in the game room and enjoy the quiet. I cannot wait to be back!! For logistics, the beds are comfortable, there are great local eateries around, the breakfast offered was all too go, and quite yummy. The pool has a fun waterfall and was comfortably warm in March, and the hot tub is nice. The wi-fi worked fine, and there are vending machines on site. The suites have cook space as well as refrigerators that add to the convenience.
We live within an hour of this lodge and chose this to be our accommodations for a Vietnam reunion we were hosting. The staff was fantastic from the moment we started planning this to the moment we all said our goodbyes. This was the perfect setting for everyone to pull up a seat outside on their large deck or inside in their comfortable and spacious lobby. Fresh cold drinks were always ready in the lobby.Joyce at the front desk was a hoot and gave us plenty of laughs. She even took care of making our brunch reservations for us.Vicky, the manager, was a gem by helping us get all of our gift bags into our guests rooms and making sure that our plans went off without a hitch.Xaina, the hospitality manager, was a God send to work with and made it easy for us to book for a large group. Your generosity did not go unnoticed. The rooms were very comfortable and offered a relaxing deck view of the river. This location, facility and staff helped make our reunion weekend 100% perfect. Many thanks!
The hotel called me on 2/7/2022 and told me that my reservation for this hotell was CANCELED because THEY OVERBOOKED. Now I reserved my room for May 3,2023 through May 9 2022 . I reserved in OCTOBER 2021 I live 13 plus hours away, so how does this happen? So as of this moment I have to try and find another COMPARABLE R0OM. One thing for sure this Place and its owners lost all of my Buisness and I would recomend if you want to be treated FAIRLY and fell you are being treat properly this definitely is not the place.
My FIL lives close. This WAS an awesome place to come and visit. We came to visit for Christmas, a four hour drive. My toddler was so happy to see and hang with her papa. Last night my FIL was so embarrassed by the woman working he will never step foot in this place again, which also means my 3-4 trips at crooked river means my family won’t be staying here EITHER! I get rules are rules but then they ALL need enforced. We were at the pool for about three minutes, we went down at 8:15 PM. This woman comes in literally yelling at my father-in-law that he needs to get out of the pool because he’s not registered. She really made a scene and was EXTREMELY rude. Fine. But did you have to yell and make a scene in front of everyone-everyone who was drinking ALCOHOL in clearly marked ALCOHOL containers. Which is also a rule”no alcohol” the sign on the pool door also reads”no outside food or beverage” but the woman didn’t say a WORD to anyone drinking. About 9 adults. To me that is straight harassment and extremely POOR customer service. Shame we won’t be back. I did ask the rude, yelling woman (who I was NOT rude to at all) if we could register my FIL even if we had to pay more money and she snarled back NO! I asked the rude, yelling woman(who I was not rude to at all) if we could register my FIL, even if we had to pay more. She snarled back NO!
Great place with lots of different opportunities. They have a beautiful great room as you walk in with lounge chairs and some games by the fireplace. They have outdoor walking trails and offer kayaking for the river. Rooms are nice and clean. Nice sectioned off bedroom and bathroom from a lounge area. One thing that could use improvements is the bed. Very stiff and generally uncomfortable as well as the pillows. They just feel cheap and cant get them to move.
This is All That and a bag of Popcorn..Wich is also included! The staff is so Great. We were guided for things to see and do in the area. We were given fresh apples from the farm market( made a delicious pie) . Kayaks paddle boats available. Huge game room, cozy fire pit and fireplace. Amazing breakfast out on flower filled deck. Hot tub and Pool with a waterfall and adult swim times. Artisan spring water fountains throughout. Cant stop calling people to go here. Epic!!! Chilled wine, glasses, and corkscrew waiting at arrival on our personal jacuzzi next to our fireplace by the balcony overlooking the beautiful river.
Complete bait and switch. We booked a room and were told a certain rate, drove 4 hours and arrived to find out the rate we were told was not the actual rate. Upon arrival the rate we were told had tripled, and the advertised amenities in the holiday package were gone. Do not stay here, it has changed owners and is not the sameplace as it used to be! This hotel engages in deceitful advertising which should be a violation of Michigans consumer protection law. What a disappointment.
I ref the Petoskey soccer tournaments, spring, and fall. We have been extremely fortunate to be put up there by the soccer club. My friend and I took a couple kayaks out on Friday afternoon, gorgeous, quaint, friendly people, even when some guys blowing our eardrums along river, the fishing people just grin and bear it. Fantastic service, 24 hour pool, check it out.
We took our niece and nephew to the Lodge for a staycation overnight. Adjoining rooms were perfect so the teen aged could have her own space. Balcony with a stunning view of the river. Super clean, Covid precautions at every turn. We had to drag the kids out of the pool. We had dinner at Stafford’s Pier, which never disappoints! If you are in the area, this is the place to stay!
*edit* Stayed again in March 2021 and still just as amazing! We stayed in a jacuzzi room with a king bed and a small kitchenette. Perfect for two people. It was a great anniversary room. Beautiful location with friendly service and a nice continental breakfast. Just minutes from petoskey, indian river and harbor springs. Water everywhere for summer enjoyment and close to all the snowmobile trails.
Always lovely to stay here. Not only are the rooms comfortable, but the staff really embodies hospitality, even with the Covid modifications. Always available hot and cold beverages, outdoor fire every morning and evening, and they even have seasonal outdoor toys such as kayaks, paddle boat, snow shoes, and skis for guests to borrow.
Huge rooms, good mattresses. Beautiful views out of every room. Hot breakfast served each morning. U cant eat it in the breakfast room, but we could take and go. Loved the loft game room. Even did a couple of make shift yoga classes up there with just our bubble of friends. Staff very accomodating. Extremely Covid compliant. From masks to monitoring pool capacity, this place has it down pat! Nice artesian well water on property (as well as across street, down a short distance on US31, which you could bring your own water containers to refill). Our only suggestions would be to have extra TP in rooms (no problem but had to ask due to no daily maid service due to Covid), need room darkening shade over 1/2 round window in door (bright sunrises!), and put families with children in a separate wing/area away from all adult rooms.
We got a great price from their winter package deal. The price came out to about $100 a night for a King size room. They even made a refund with us for the $50 meal coupon we werent able to use. Our only complaint was that some of the other guests were WAY too loud at night. Music was blaring and yelling was heard late into night. We did call the front desk about it, and I believe may have been dealt with. My only issue was that there were so few guests there, it just seems like they could have spread us out more so that we couldve had more privacy. Just a thought 💭...
This place is fantastic especially what you get for your $. Gorgeous lobby, nice game room with pool table, board games, puzzles & books. Huge bonfire day & night to sit by. Fresh coffee, hot cocoa, iced tea & popcorn in lobby. We rented the 2 bedroom suite which was very spacious and includes full kitchenette. Most notable is friendliness of staff. Everyone went out of their way to be kind and helpful! You cant go wrong with any resort by Stafford!!!
The girls and I got away fro the weekend and happened to be lucky enough to stay here! It was excellent on every level! Breakfast, rooms, staff and surroundings! If you need the best home away from home experience do yourself a favor and stay here!!! We will be making this our weekend getaway spot for years to come!! Thank you so much for such a great time!!!
Excellent experience all around. Staffords properties are without a doubt the best lodging experience in Petoskey. Guests will love the kayaking, nature trails, delicious hot breakfast, pool, hot tub and Jacuzzis in select rooms. Weekend prices are generally higher so I recommend staying during the week if at all possible to maximize your stay and avoid large crowds. All in all, I cant think of a single complaint. The view from the balcony (available in most rooms) is beautiful. My wife and I were impressed! Great work, Staffords!
Beautiful lodge decor feels rustic but has all the modern amenities. Very nice and helpful staff, super clean, and great complimentary breakfast each morning. The grounds are well maintained and relaxing. Lovely lobby area with fireplace for relaxing, and a nice patio and outdoor fireplace to gather around in the evening. You need to stay here!
Awesome, beautiful, place to stay. We took advantage of all they had to offer. Fed the fishIn the pond, went for a paddle boat ride, went swimming in a nice warm indoor pool and hot tub, enjoyed the outside fire, walked a bit of the nature trail, enjoyed a great continental breakfast...staff is very kind with all smiles. We traveled with two toddlers and two adults. Dont forget the delicious free apples and popcorn. We came up for the Tunnel of trees. We had the best stay and will return next year.
Very, Clean, descent free breakfast, they were sanitizing everything which is awesome. Nice outdoor seating with fire pit, pool and hot tub were nice and clean and unique with a waterfall. Beautiful building and setting. Nice friendly staff. However, asked to take out the paddle boat (complimentary which is awesome) our last night and there were two girls at the desk. One said it came back sometime ago and hadnt been sanitized so we cant let it go out. We asked when it would be and she replied 30 mins or so when more come in to do too. However the 1st night we were there two different ladies were at the front and we watched them run right out and sanitize every kayak, boat, etc. as soon as it came in if someone was waiting. Disappointing because it was too late by the time she finally got out there to clean it. The pull out couch that we planned to use for our kids to sleep on was poor quality. it was pushed down into the spring which made it uncomfortable. We requested a roll away bed on night 2 and told them the couch was very uncomfortable. The front desk lady contacted the manager and the response was the mattress on those couches are new so it should be fine. And no those rooms which couches cant accommodate a roll away bed. Nor were there other rooms available that would. So we had to put 4 people in our king bed. Not fun when we paid to have a room with a pull out couch for them. Plus the room next door had dogs that barked on and off all night then nonstop at 630am when the owners left so our kids were woke up then. I did speak to the staff and they said unfortunately we are pet friendly. A bit disappointed about those issues bc everything else was very nice. Unfortunately were not sure wed return bc of those issues.
My son and I just booked our second trip to this hotel (our trips are almost exactly a year apart). I am beyond excited! It is a lovely place with plenty to offer - I love the kayaks and the view the most! We were out and about a lot - but when we were there, it was everything we needed. We enjoyed the kayaks, pool, fire pit, staff, etc. We plan to venture into the UP again... this time, further west. Even though we will be traveling further into the UP, we chose this hotel as our resting place. After our last trip, we vowed to return every year. I hope this hotel will continue to be that cozy resting place for us :)
First time staying here the place is beautiful the service is outstanding and there are plenty of things to do whether its winter time or summer time they have life jackets and sleds and snow shoes to rent everything for free they have kind of Breakfast from 7 to 10 I have a beautiful little place for kids to play they have Artesian water hot cocoa fireplace we will definitely be back. We stayed here to attend a funeral for family and it worked out very well. The great thing about this place is they can accommodate a dog the rooms are very clean we were very impressed there were 17 of us that stayed here and we really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel was surprisingly bright, cheery, and clean. The room was huge, which I loved! Every room appears to have a beautiful view and a balcony – so nice! The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was not the greatest, a bit stiff, but we didn’t wake up with backaches, so we were happy! The towels were fluffy and white. There is a cabin-like decorating scheme, but it isn’t over the top, so it didn’t feel old and dusty. We had the continental breakfast. I tried an egg scramble with sausage in it. It did not look very appealing but tasted delicious. We ate outside on the patio. It was just beautiful. They obviously have a skilled gardener, which I appreciate very much. Even in September, the bushes and flowers were in excellent shape. We took a short walk on their trail. It started out wide and groomed. Within a couple hundred feet, it was narrow and not-so-groomed. Maybe if we had taken the longer trail it would have been better. They have beautiful grounds with a lake, docks, and wetlands. Everything (except the trail) was very well maintained. The only negative thing was the noise level in our room. I don’t know if it was because we were near the elevator, but in the morning, we could hear people walking and talking like there was a sheet of paper between us. We had brought a white noise machine from home, but I didn’t have it right near our bed. Maybe that would have helped. Despite the noise, it was well worth the stay. I highly recommend Stafford Crooked River.
Beautiful scenery and atmosphere. Fun place for kids. Staff was very accommodating. Price was great for such a beautiful hotel and all that was included. Breakfast was excellent! Giving 4 stars because the bed was stiff and uncomfortable. Also, a restaurant on site would of been nice. However, I would definently stay again. Overall, I was satisfied! My daughter had an absolute blast and thats what matters most!
This venue and area is beautiful during any season. The staff is friendly, clean rooms, rustic feel and warmth; and the local activities are great to recharge the batteries.Whether business or vacation, I stay here when traveling through Petosky, Alanson, Harbor Springs, or Pellston. Enjoy, it’s a treat.Best Regards,Always Impressed with this Place Engineer-
Great place and has river access. They don’t have a boat launch but they do have trailer parking which is a huge bonus. Pretty nice place, relatively new building. Nice pool area. Lobby and back deck area are cool hangout area with a fire pit n stuff. Definitely coming back
The rooms are very nice and they have a wonderful pool and hot tub. They have an amazing yard behind the hotel. There is a small fish pond. If you go up to the front desk they will give you food to feed them. There is also a river and in the summer you can paddle boat and kayak. In the winter you can snowshoe or just walk down the trails. They also have pool, chess, a puzzle and a game called SKITTLES! Last but not least they have a good breakfast. Anyone that goes to Indian River then I suggest that place!
This lodge was absolutely beautiful. They had so many activities at the hotel, a huge 10 person fire pit, a huge pool with a waterfall, and offfered paddle boating/kayaking all complementary to guest staying at the hotel. Service was above and beyond helpful. The front desk was very helpful referring us to local beaches, great food, fun family activities, and the tunnel of trees. It was an amazingly good time. We wouldnt have known about those places if it wasnt for the very nice, knowledgeable, friendly front desk aldies. I would definitely recommend staying here. I will definitely be going back.
My husband and I visit here every year. We always have so much fun. The hotel itself is just far enough away from the hub-bub, but close enough to do all the fun things you want. Aside from that, the hotel is incredibly clean, the staff is always friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning is AMAZING (thats always our favorite part)! We never want to stay anywhere else.
This hotel was wonderful. We stayed with out three children and they enjoyed it too. Very clean, friendly staff, nice pool, fun play area for the kids, good breakfast and the view out back was lovely. I just wish we had come on a warmer day so we could enjoy the kayaks and river a little more. Would highly recommend this hotel!
Highly recommend this friendly clean centrally located lodge for family and also couples. It was very quiet. My wife and I met two other couples while enjoying the outside gas bonfire (no smoke) that my wife appreciated. I liked the way the room was furnish and the many wall hangings and paintings throughout the lodge. I even tried out the snowshoes on a trail alongside crooked river.
It was an amazing experience. The staff was incredible and I couldnt have loved it anymore. I went here 2 years ago in the same weekend and it was awesome. Im so happy I came back. My favorite part was the pool. The pool was nice and warm and the hottub was so relaxing. We are definitely coming back next year or so. :)
Wow! Great decor, great employees, great breakfast! Large hot tub, nice pool with waterfall! 24 hr. coffee, iced water and iced tea! Huge gameroom. Puzzles, books, games, pool table available for free. Access to snow shoes, & skis. Employees even gave us a tour of the luxury suite! (They are well worth the cost)! Sound like I was impressed? I WAS!
Didnt stay the night so cant attest to the rooms. Went in to meet someone, and cant believe how relaxing it is in there. There are trails behind the lodge, and they have sleds and snowshoes you can grab to go explore. The fireplaces were wonderful, the lobby has a gorgeous rec room w/ pool table, computer, board games, couches, TV, and more. Theres an outdoor fireplace. So fantastic. Cant wait to book a room and stay, even of my house is 14 minutes away.
Weve stayed here so many times Ive lost count! Excellent accommodations. Spotless! Friendly staff..very helpful. Excellent play area (wooden fort) in lobby area for kiddies. Breakfast included. Overlooks crooked river. Kayaking. Fire pit. I should stop..but we love it. Also, you get a coupon for 15 per cent off at the Pier!
We came here on our 35th anniversary on Jan 14th. It was cold and lots of snow but what a great time we had there. Every day when we went outside our truck had the windows cleared and shoveled up to our doors. Little details like that show how nice the owners and staff take care of their guests. We will defiantly be back. Please dont let the cold or snow from keeping you from enjoying places like this and this awesome state of Michigan!
A wonderful getaway place has a little bit of everything outdoor fire pit, indoor fireplace popcorn at night a little game room for the little kiddies pool hot tub outdoor BBQ area and one of the best scenic lookouts for a small-town lodge. Highly recommended you try this out for you and the misses you cant go wrong. Have also have friends that travel all the way from Indiana to come up here a couple of times a year. Definitely give this place a try.
Love having our Quilt retreats there. Look forward to going back in 2020 for the 4th year. Everyone at the lodge from the house cleaning staff, those that took our suitcases and sewing machines to our rooms and then to our cars and the front desk people, cant say enough good things about them all!!
We stayed overnight for my birthday in a Jacuzzi room with the Romance package. They didnt bring down the champagne we had to go ask for it, the chocolate was two pieces, my flowers were wilted and half dead, the plug on the tub was messed up we had to play Toth the jets for a few minutes to get them to turn on and then fight with the light over the tub to get it to turn off. They also advertise breakfast is included in the package but it is included with every stay, the breakfast was ok but I definitely expected better from a Staffords. They started mowing the lawn a little after 7 am. No one told us when my husband reserved the room of checked in they hold an extra 20% off the card. The staff was accommodating and the entire hotel was clean and well kept. They offer activities and ideas. Plus a discount at the Pier restaurant. The pool is open 24 hours and adult only after 9 pm. We enjoyed the fire pit on the patio and drinking coffee on our balcony.
This place is great. My family (wife and three kids, 7 and under) have visited about three or four times now. We love it! Great, large rooms. Great northern feel with pine log accents and stone. Awesome, huge lawn with balls and games to play with. Fish pond. Kayaks and paddle boats (my five-year-old loved seeing minnows, frogs, and turtles from the paddle boat). Awesome outdoor firepit that is lit with natural gas (always on). Great pool - large and with a little water fall. Was nice and warm too. Great breakfast. Love the lobby balcony area with pool and other games. Just an awesome lobby with vaulted ceilings. Easy parking. Easy to find. The place is perfect for enjoying Northern Michigan. We visited Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, Paradise, Charlevoix, Cross Village, and Whitefish Point. Really a great time every time we visit and so much to do and explore. You should definitely stay here if you even have a slight chance! Vicky, the GM, is awesome as is her staff! Thank you always and we will be back!
We checked in my friend had to take her fiance to the hospital and the lady at the front desk said that it was fine that she swapped out herself or someone and then she snapped on us she swore at us she turned on us and kicked us out kicked two kids out in 85 degree weather and she did not give us enough time change she gave us 5 minutes to get out or shed call the cops and didnt give us our money back. She was extremely rude to us. The lady did not want to give us the corporate number either.
Our family uses the pool. The hotel has pool use passes for sale, which benefits our family and the hotel because the pool does not get used by guests very often. Always clean and good ventilation, waterfall feature is a nice touch but can be a bit noisy, but it also prevents echoes from patrons.
The hotel is way overpriced and the staff was extremely rude! Argued with me that my 16 and 17 hear old could not be alone in the pool when there are signs saying they could and signs saying they could not. When asked about the restaurant, was told they were not open. Yet in the elevators there were signs taped to the walls. Why couldnt they take the signs down if it wasnt open?
Great staff. Clean, beautiful, peaceful Inn with so much to do there. Pool w/waterfall, jacuzzi, walking path, kayaks & paddle boats to use free, boat slips on docks, great firepit on large porch, great view of the river. Plus!! So close to Mackinac, Petoskey and in Alanson. Great Bakery & town. More to do than you can fit in. I needed 10 days, had 7, but loved me vaca with family!
Crooked River has to be one of the most beautiful places Ive ever stayed! Not only for the physical, but the way the staff has made each of my visit feel like Im the only person in there!Great place to relax, take in some beautiful scenery, and just unwind. And if youre lucky enough to try the French Toast bake for breakfast, your life will be complete!
The lodge and room were great... Until there was a couple stomping around above us all night long. Upon letting the front desk know they said it was my fault for not coming to the desk at 2am to complain. I needed a good night sleep and didnt get it. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Each year our family plans a long weekend get-together. Until now its been in Saugatuck, but after going to Headlands Dark Sky Park last year, I decided to try the Petosky area. The River House looked perfect for our group, so I made reservations 8 months in advance. Id never actually seen the place, just pictures. But we were thrilled when we arrived! The Lodge itself is beautiful, and you can swim 24-7 which we loved. Everything is rustic Northern Michigan decor. I didnt think Id like that, but it totally worked. Lobby was large and welcoming with a fireplace inside and a large firepit outside. Plenty of room just to chillax. The River House was awesome! It has a beautiful large, long porch, Id say large enough to hold at least 40 people. The rooms were great, there was a jacuzzi, and a fish pond right out front. It was our own private place. and we also got to enjoy free kayaks, my kids went biking, running, and hiking. We all voted to return here next year instead of going back to the west side of the state. My only disappointment is Id hoped to get a better view of the Milky Way, but I cant blame the Lodge for clouds. Their staff was amazing, even before our arrival, and during as well. This place is Michigan at its best! I highly recommend it.

2022-02-18Our stay was amazing! All staff were super sweet. Free coffee, tea and water in the lobby 24/7. Breakfast was hot and yummy. We enjoyed the large pool and jacuzzi tub. Our 2-bedroom suite was very spacious and clean. We loved this place! We already made our reservations for 2023!

2022-05-03This place is EXCELLENT! Joyce greeted us and made us feel right at home! The rooms are clean and the grounds are simply beautiful. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and also really enjoyed the adult only pool hours! Its located near anything you need but feels like you are completely secluded. We came for a girls weekend and cannot wait to return!

2022-03-12We’ve been coming up north to ski for years and never know about this gem. It’s the quintessential “up north” vibe. Cozy, welcoming and just lovely. The rooms are spacious, the game room is a great place to relax after skiing and the bonfire is perfect. Can’t wait to come back in the summer. On top of the faculties the customer service is exceptional.

2022-01-09We had the best time staying here. Poll. And hit tub were great. Lobby and loft were cozy and inviting and the suite had plenty of space for my husband, 3 teenagers and I. Even a nice table so I could do some work remotely.

2022-06-16We can’t even begin to thank them enough for the outstanding hospitality of the entire staff here. Starting from the front staff Joyce, Vickie & the rest of the gals, to Kim & the girls who work in the dining area, to all the housekeeping staff & grounds keeping. They had made our 30+ day stay the best. Do to my husband & I circumstance being transferred to Michigan for work for the summer & finding a place to live here. They accommodated us & made us feel right at home. If there were a 10 🌟review, they would sure receive it.

2022-04-18Over the years we have been frequent guests at Crooked River Lodge. Our family decided to have a getaway weekend for the Easter holiday. As we all enjoyed the amenities of the Lodge, I thought this is how families can enjoy quality time and “this is how memories are made”’.The exceptional customer service was exemplary. Stafford’s never fail to deliver a positive experience.Thank you Crooked River Lodge associates for a great experience.

2022-03-15Not a thing we didnt like about the place. Everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and everything from the TV to the hot tub worked as it should. Breakfast was good and had many things from which to choose. We will try to come back in October to see the colors.

2022-05-03We love visiting but this last visit we were place on the “dog level” and had a barking dog in the room next to us. The walls are paper thin and it made the experience not so enjoyable.
