Oct 15, 2017While I dont actually have a baseline for a high-end coffee shop to compare this to yet, the experience exceeded expectations. The baristas were very friendly. Brooke, in particular, beautifully showcased the siphon method of brewing (as well as the pour over); she was very knowledgeable of the product and of the brewing methods, and she was a delight the whole time! Ashley, too, was very polite and friendly. Overall, the coffee was delicious, the space was clean, the staff was professional, and the experience was invigorating (that may also be due to the caffeine). Thanks, Starbucks Reserve Birmingham.
My husband and I went in today and we had the worst service at a Starbucks possible. While we were waiting in line, one of the women who was calling out names gave us the nastiest look. I went to sit down while my husband ordered. 15 mins go by and those who ordered after us had their drinks first. So I tell my husband to go up and see if our drinks are there. Low and behold, they are there and have been there. If you can’t pronounce our names, say the drink names loudly, like you were the other names. Everyone’s name was being announced in a manner that could be heard, except ours. Not only that, we were given the wrong cake pops and she grabbed the bags from my husband with attitude once he told her. I was no longer comfortable sitting there. We left shortly after. As excited as I was about visiting a reserve location, I’ll be hesitant visiting this one.
Place looks nice. It feels cool to be there.Rude staff member:One server was super rude and did not want to take milk needs serious (lactose intolerant guest with us). To be fair, another server was actually pretty cool.Coffee is not good:Coffee is better than normal Starbucks but that is not saying much: it is still nowhere near independent coffee shop standards, even though the price is about the same.
This place is just too much. Not a relaxing place for a cuppa joe at all. Its big, has poor sound proofing, and is not a place to hang out in. Sorry. Do not like loud trendy and hard surfaced places but that seems the way Starbucks is going. I wont be going there except under sufferance.
Mobile orders are taking forever, up to 45 mins-you’re better off ordering in store. I came back twice and my mobile still was not ready. Also-I do not like the mobile order set up where everyone is able to breathe/cough on my drink bc it is not behind any plexi. Do better.
An extremely friendly Starbucks right in the heart of Birmingham. Being a reserve location, they do carry some drinks that you wont find at other locations. The have tables inside and outside. The closest parking structure is only 100ft away and it is free for the first 2 hours.
They get two stars because the service was outstanding (otherwise it would be zero stars). Best I’ve had when going into Starbucks the few times. However, the coffee reserve was a slightly less bitter version of their standard and therefore horrible. I was intrigued by the environment and the knowledge of the staff but in the end, it’s still just Starbucks. If you appreciate coffee, don’t waste your time here.
They have made such great adaptations during the last few months. The baristas here go the extra mile. It gets BEYOND BUSY in the mornings and weekends but the cheery baristas always try to make the moment right. They are as fast as they can be and they always try to make the drink right. They don’t just slop drinks together, it takes dedication and passion and alot of coffee knowledge to work these espresso machines and these coffee nerds have it down! They know all of the recipes! I have come here so many times over the years I am always greeted and my drinks have always tasted amazing! The reserve coffees are amazing. Id budget a little extra time when coming here just because the volume of drinks sometimes it takes awhile to get your coffee, everything is made in the order it is received but 5/5 would recommend!!
One of the Best Starbucks! ALWAYS exceptional service and most importantly delicious drinks! I have never had (or heard anyone in my company) ever complain about a mistaken order - amazing! Also immaculately clean & cozy environment. Wonderful friendly crowd (often find patrons conducting meetings, students studying, groups chatting, & many individuals reading). Though its full, never overcrowded & we have always managed to find seats. Parking might be challenging, but its a great location to walk around (downtown Birmingham is a hidden gem). Enjoy!
This Starbucks has so much potential but is very poorly operated. There are always 7-8 employees running around behind the counter BUT NOT serving customers. The wait lines are 8-10 people deep and it is always 15-20 mins before the order is ready, even when ordered ahead by mobile app. This store needs management that is customer ficused and prioritizes efficient and fast service. As much as I like visiting Starbucks, I dont want to have to wait 15-20 mins watching employees do what amounts to nothing.
Best Starbucks to ever Starbucks! The baristas not only know me by name but they know my order and I never have to wait! I am always greeted by smiling faces and my day is made every morning by the staff here! 10/10 recommend if you want excellent customer service, thanks B-Ham Starbucks staff you guys are the best.
I’m literally obsessed with this Starbucks. I haven’t gone this summer because of COVID, but last summer we went like every weekend. gets busy on weekends which is understandable, the drinks are amazing as well as the interior and there is a water bowl for dogs in the front outside! wish they’d bring back the affogato though
This is just a truly beautiful Starbucks. It does not feel like a starbucks like we are used to. There is literally an experience for everyone here. The use of space is brilliant and it has a restaurant feel. You can tell that the baristas have a much more comprehensive training. But being a Reserve based place, I expect the food to be a little more elevated as well. Maybe in the future?
Never been here and it not take forever. Last few times I had to ask them where my drink was. Each time it appeared there was confusion on their end and people we’re looking at each other as to who was supposed to do what. Half and half is empty more times than not. On top of their gross inefficiency, you can count on at least one employee being in foul mood and you are to blame. Ps. I don’t order anything other than coffee.
Okay so, I actually really like Starbucks in general, and my boyfriend and I were really looking forward to checking out the seemingly almost-mythical Reserve. Sadly we were underwhelmed with the experience. Reserve selection was very small/limited...definitely did not meet our expectations. The ambiance is just okay, really. The large open-air windows were nice, but the electric/faux fireplace just seemed like overkill, especially in mid-June. The place had a kind of Starbucks-Chipotle-every hipster whisky bar sort of feel to it, honestly. Also, its metered parking only. Glad we checked it out, but probably wouldnt go back.
Ive gone to some coffee places and had a hard time getting the person taking my order to look at me, let alone exhibit customer service. Not this place. I ordered a latte on my phone and had to wait a five extra minutes upon arriving at the store due to some complications with the espresso machine. One of the baristas came up to me and gave me a gift card for my wait, checked on me multiple times, and even asked if I wanted something else while I was waiting. She apologized multiple times for the longer wait, as did the lady who prepared my drink. They were phenomenal in checking in on me and ensuring I was good to go. Just for a cup of coffee.Customer service may be dead. But its still very much alive at this Starbucks.
It’s snowing and crazy cold weather, 32 degrees outside. However, it feels as cold inside the place. All the customers keep their jackets on!! Is it a new strategy to force people to shorten their stay which makes room for new potential customers and higher turnover as a result??!! The worst experience ever. My back and shoulders are freezing.N.BDon’t try hot chocolate it tastes everything but chocolate, smh!
If you like Starbucks as much as I do, you probably have already visited the reserve store. If you have not, then you are in for a real treat....literally. Great reserve store only drinks, included with the great atmosphere. The fireplace is fantastic on s cold winter day with your coffee or hot coco.. my advice....go and you will not only enjoy, youll be back...as as Arnold would say
Great place, friendly staff with coffee you can only find at this location. I am a huge fan of their special espresso roast and they have specific drinks that are only made at the coffee bar, not to mention they have the cold brew nitro coffee. To my knowledge this is the only one in Michigan and well worth the trip.
I love the atmosphere of this place. Im just really sad they no longer have the ice cream and coffee because that was so delicious. I also wish they had more on their menu thats not at the normal Starbucks. I ordered a hazelnut bianco latte though and throughly enjoyed that. 👌🏼
From different brewing methods to small lot, limited offering coffees, this store is an amazing adventure into the realm of coffee. On top of the same offerings as your typical Starbucks, you can also expect a separate menu for the Reserve Bar side, including seated service at the bar area. There is no alcohol served, but there are handcrafted beverages to delight the palate. Try the Hazelnut Bianco latté made with a milk they make in-house. Yes, they have nitro cold brew! The staff there is incredible and will help with with your journey.
Hazelnut Bianco is worth this slightly elevated remix of the coffee chain we all know. Starbucks Reserve has small batch whole beans on a rotating menu among other delectable selections not available at other locations. They drove me to buy my own siphon at home, because of how mezmerizingly they prepare it for you in store. One of lifes simple pleasures is watching a barista more skilled than your venti vanilla frapp variety from another lowly chain branch expertly craft a siphoned coffee like coffee meets Walter White. You owe it to yourself to indulge in the subtle citrus and chocolate aromatics of a tenderly cared for and intelligently experimented cuppa.
Its almost hard to explain how awesome this Starbucks is. Everyone is so nice, knowledgeable, and passionate about coffee. They enjoy their jobs and that shows. They also offer a variety of brewing methods. Share a Chemex with your bestie or take a few minutes to watch a syphon brew after asking for a recommendation on the variety of coffee used.
Get it together! 3 drinks in front of me made wrong...redone. drinks missed...slower than molasses service...if you think the Reserve new up the street is going to make it...better get the operations figured out first. Love having you in Birmingham... service not as expected here.
Ill preface this review with this one stipulation that must be gotten out of the way first: If ever you have to use the restrooms, then you must get in line. Expect to see five people and to be the final one. I was in that such line behind four other guys, and I asked a young man before me whether there was only one restroom, and an older man (well, older than the guy I asked, but also younger than I) said no, there are two, but theyre both occupied.I finally got inside the leftward restroom, and instantly saw what I liked: Dyson Airblades! The Somerset Collection formerly had these in various restrooms, but no longer. You stick your hands between these blades, and they blow hot air at the speed of, say, a hurricane. Slowly run your hands back and forth between the blades, and your hands are dry in almost no time. Now lets talk about the interior of the place: spectacularly gorgeous. Its spacious, compared to the other location of Starbucks just south of Maple, which was very cozy. And I did like that place, but this location, the Reserve version, is the bees knees. It resembles a lounge, moreso than an actual coffeehouse. There are several leather chairs with small tables in accompaniment; at least two tables with a pair of chairs; a big table with four chairs; and barside chairs where the Baristas work at.And heres MY favorite section: a long wallside leather seat with four tables. Id rather sit at either end, because there are flat boards on both sides, whereon you can place your drink, or phone, or both, thus making more room on the table.Furthermore, there are plug outlets wherein you can either charge your phone or plug in your laptop computer. But I have to tell you: Youd have to hit the floor, hit the floor, going low, low, low, low, low, low in order to get to them---at the base below your seat. (Sorry, Flo Rida!)On those same outlets are two bigger rectangular holes, for your wi-fi service. At least I hope thats correct. Im trying to be helpful, and Id hate to be wrong thereabout as a matter of service. Finally, I saw on their menu on their wall near the order section that they serve ice cream. I didnt get to order any yet, but I will on my next visit there. I plan to patronize the place more often.I just hope it doesnt get too crowded beforehand.
I was a weekly patron at the previous Starbucks across the street. The new Reserve trades efficiency for swankiness and Im not convinced its a worthwhile trade. Yes, its less drafty inside. The old location was cramped near the pickup area but it was cozy. The service here is improving.
Second Reserve store Ive visited (first in Toronto) Excellent service and coffee as expected. Had a pour over with the Pink Bourbon. There is a separate kiosk at the Reserve section, so yo can skip the standard line. Pic is current Reserve coffee lineup as of Nov 14th 2018
This location deserves nothing more than average rating. A few surly employees but overall they try their best. Long lines often in morning. Number of on line orders from local businesses can result in long waits. Space is small for number of clients ...as a result can be dirty at times
Horrible!!! I went in today to the 135 S. Old Woodward Birmingham,MI 48009 location in downtown Birmingham and ordered a Venti Salted Caramel Frappuccino with soy milk, no whip, all the toppings that come with that drink and caramel drizzle inside the cup. The guy rang me up correctly, but the girl who made my drink made it wrong!!! I stood there and watched her and before she made the first mistake, I caught her and told her to put caramel drizzle in the cup before she poured the drink in the cup. She didnt and put xtra thick caramel that comes with that drink instead. She and four people that work there kept telling me that the company changed the caramel and its a different texture. Meanwhile, Im standing there looking at the correct caramel that I ordered and paid extra for in a bottle sitting on the counter!!! Are they not seeing what Im seeing??? Are the workers idiots??? Yes and yes!!! I explained that Im not stupid and the caramel drizzle that I want in my cup is right there on the counter. The girl who made my drink was rude, nobody there understood what I was talking about and didnt remake my drink. I cant stand stupid people and dont understand how they exist in this world. All in all horrible customer service.
The building is absolutely amazing. Modeled after the Roastery in Seattle, there is copper and terracotta everywhere.Being able to see the baristas and chat with them about the care they put into their drinks as well as their passions is awesome. This is the only place in Michigan with drinks like the Hazelnut Bianco, cold brew malts, and house affogatos. It can get busy, but the staff is always willing to chat and make the wait seem like less. All in all, if you love Starbucks, or coffee in general, you need to check it out.
I love starbucks but this morning I ordered a venti frap and the barista made a Grande when I point it out she said that you actually paid for a Grande. I thought it was rude. I dont mind paying put thats what I ordered and they should pay attention on what I order in the first place. After waiting for the cashier to return and charge the different i just gave her 2$ and left.
Very pricey coffee and not the best quality or tasting and then they never have the lemon cake theyre always Out… N if I dont get my lemon cake bite 8:00 a.m. do usually out So why doesnt the manager realized that and order more lemon cakes because you could make more money its not brain surgery.. And I have mentioned it several times to the people by and they counter but they just dont listen And at this point of the conversation I hope the owners reading this...
They did not allow me to purchase vanilla syrup. They indicated that they never sell it to customers. I have purchased all of our syrups from this location .... and I have purchased VANILLLA I been purchasing from this location for several years. I will voice my complaint with the corporate office. Extremely rude and I will not buy anything from this location

2021-11-23One of our most favourite Starbucks right in the heart of Birmingham Micighan. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. With them being a reserve location, they do carry some drinks that you wouldnt normally find at other Starbucks locations. Their reserve bar and seating area is so cool! They do have seating both inside and outside. A great spot for a coffee break if youre in Birmingham and in need of caffeine or a sweet treat.

2022-01-16This place is really neat, even though its pretty busy the staff has a great system and are able to keep drinks moving and people served. I really like the Reserve idea due to the difference in drink offerings.

2022-03-24Shoutout Alex! He was kind and smart and knew the Starbucks product! He also served us our siphon experience which I highly recommend! Other employees wearing Master Barista aprons had no clue what they were doing and were incredibly rude. There was no place for our party to sit. And I asked if we could have one of the tables that the staff was using. And I was told no. I hope Alex is the manager!!!

2022-05-01Love this place. Being one of the 20 Starbucks Reserves in the United States, this Starbucks is unique. The coffee here is different from the normal Starbucks experience, and its a large place that is good for studying and spending time with your friends.I would definitely recommend stopping by.

2021-08-051 star for Columbian beans pour over. I just cant understand why it tastes worse than their regular coffee. Its extremely bitter. Has a really bitter and yaki aftertaste. It doesnt taste like good dark roast coffee. Its really watery and quite undrinkable which is really sad because I thought that yhey have Reserve title for a reason...

2022-05-07Bad experience. Mobile order, took long past estimate of wait. When I asked about my order nicely thinking someone had missed it, the guy rudely snapped at me. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to the local coffee house. Got a refund and walked down the street and got service with a smile. No apology or even comment when I told the girl at Starbucks why I wanted a refund. Go somewhere else!

2020-12-18Just what the world needs: another version of the standard regular old Starbucks; I guess the fact the baristas wear flannel makes a difference?? Nothing unique beverage-wise or food-wise. Heard about an affogato, but this location doesnt have ice cream. 😳 //Yawn// I drove 40 each direction to experience Reserve. Ha! I could have just driven through one of the 48 other stores I passed on the way.

2022-02-18Not a good place to come for a quiet atmosphere. hard to read or study in this particular location. the music is really loud and the chair/table set up is not made for good study spots. if you are just going for a nice coffee and leaving, obviously a cool place to check out in that regard.

2021-12-12This is not the Reserve that you read about in Chicago, Seattle and NYC, etc...dont let the name fool you. If youre looking for the variety of coffees, cocktails and merch that the Reserves have, youll need to go to Chicago.
