I had a great experience with my eye exam. They were able to get me in right away, all the staff members were extremely nice and easy to work with. My doctor was awesome and Colleen helped me pick out some new frames and she was amazing. This is by far the best eye place I have been to, would def recommend to anyone in need.
About 5 years ago I started having intense head pain, problems with my vision, vertigo and anxiety. I went to several doctors, had root canals done, had MRI’s and CAT Scans, and visited several specialists which took months to get into in hopes of getting relief. Every doctor had a different reason/answer for my pain and symptoms but offered no solution. I saw 4 different eye doctors and no one understood what I was going through and put me in prescriptions that were not right for me. I was still suffering daily with vertigo and vision that would give me crazy sensations and was fed up and that’s when I was referred to Suburban Eye Care by my neurologist. I saw Dr. Smith and she empathically listened to what I had to say, validated my symptoms, explained why I had them and then gave me a new prescription. I can’t believe how clearly I can see now and for the first time in years, I can use my phone without eye strain and muscle pain in my head.I’ve now committed to doing vision therapy at Suburban as well and look forward to having more symptomless days. Major cherry 🍒 on top is that they were also able to get me incredibly stylish frames that I adore. Until now, I had been ordering my glasses from a chain store since it was the only place I could get really fun and unique frames, which are an extension of my personality. The box store always messed up my script and left with me a multitude of symptoms so I’m super relieved to have a place where I can order glasses and have them properly made and checked by people who know what they are doing. Amber, one of the techs, is absolutely brilliant at what she does and even fixed the frame of my readers 👓 so they fit properly for the first time ever. I’m a so grateful.
Amanda, my vision therapist, Dr Smith and the entire Suburban Eye Care team are absolute miracle workers! I’ll be finishing my 4-month vision therapy program in 2 weeks and the results have been nothing short of life changing. When I came to them in August 2021, I was a complete mess. I was unable to work at the computer without headaches and nausea and was getting dizzy and lightheaded whenever I stood up. This had been going on to some degree for years (potentially related to a 2017 car accident) but got considerably worse in 2021 to the point where I could hardly play with my 2 year old son because I was getting so sick from the movement. I had tried prism lenses and vision therapy at another local office but wasn’t getting the attention or care that I thought I needed. I stumbled upon Suburban Eye Care in a Google search and that’s when everything changed. From my first appointment with Dr Smith, I was assured that they were familiar with my symptoms and had complete confidence in their treatment. I was of course skeptical as I’ve seen dozens of doctors over the past few years and all have claimed they knew the fix to no avail. Although it’s not cheap, I gave it a shot and couldn’t be happier with the results. I’ve been working with Amanda on a weekly basis and she’s both a true professional and amazing human being. Her program is tailored to my needs (vestibular issues and slight vertical heterophoria) and adjusted throughout depending on my feedback and progress. She maintains regular contact between visits, is extremely responsive to any questions or concerns and stays in close contact with Dr Smith to ensure everyone’s on the same page. I can honestly say that after seeing so many doctors over the past few years this is the first time I’ve truly felt cared for as a patient. The entire team is amazing but Amanda receives the biggest shout out as she’s been miracle worker #1.Oh, the results…after 4 months, I no longer have the need for prism lenses, I’m able to work at the computer for extended periods without issue and, most importantly, I haven’t felt dizzy in months and can play with my son uninhibited. It certainly took some work with daily exercises but I started seeing results after 4-5 weeks and it kept getting better every week thereafter. It’s kind of crazy to say but I feel like I finally have my life back after years of struggle and hopelessness. If anyone struggles with vision issues, headaches, nausea, dizziness, etc. I would highly recommend you reach out. I promise they won’t steer you wrong and you’ll be grateful you did. My only regret is not finding them sooner.
Dr. Arnold is the best optometrist I have ever been too ! I am so grateful for coming in , for so many years all these other optometrists were telling me that my right eye will never see 20/20 , so I just accepted it would always be blurry , however as soon as I put the contacts Dr. Arnold prescribed me, the blurriness was gone! Along with all the headaches I would get as well. Thank you so much Dr. Arnold ! Your the best !
Over charges, Hidden charges and Over ratedI went there because my family has a history of glacoma and heard good things about the firm. Not only did I not get the glacoma test (I would have to come back) The price of changing my glasses to single lens with transitions was over $500, that is outrangous. When I went to check out, the glasses I didnt order were on the bill, along with a fee of $50 for the prescription! To top it off there are other fees like a protection plan $25 and a SEC Club for seniors $20. DO NOT GO, RUN TO ANY OTHER EYE PROFESSION.
Theyll try to charge you hundreds of dollars for a service charge, hoping you wont notice. I actually had my insurance call them when I was there and the insurance co was very confused why they were tacking on such a high fee over and above what insurance covers just because they can. When I first asked questions to the doctor, I was berated by one of the assistants who was extremely rude and confrontational. Ill never go back again and I hope this helps people not get ripped off by them in the future.
Vision Therapy changed my childs life and more people need to know about it. I dont like my information being online but I was asked to write a review and share our experience. From beginning phone call to end of therapy the lead therapist Amanda went above and beyond to make sure we understood what was needed, what the process would be, and what we could expect. And in the end she delivered. Even the school teachers mentioned her expertise. This was the best decision we could have made and honestly more professionals need to conduct themselves and their business the way she does. Most of the upstairs was professional as well, but nothing like the way things are run downstairs. All the girls working with the kids there seem great. We could not have asked for more. If your kid is struggling in school or sports or has low confidence, seems lazy or ADD, take them here to see if they need vision therapy. It takes work but the kids enjoy it and notice the changes too.
My daughter was there for eye therapy with Dr Jacobi that went very well. We were very satisfied with him and the outcome with the therapy. We decided to stay there for her annual checkup and contacts. We had a very horrible experience. The first 3 attempts at contacts all 3 pairs were completely wrong, and we were accused of bringing back a set of contacts that werent purchased there. When my daughter was due for her yearly therapy checkup we talked to Dr Jacobi about the contacts. Dr Jacobi ordered a different pair for her that worked great the first time. We are on our 4th try at contacts. We l hope they work this time around 6 months after her original vision appointment she finally has a set that she can use. The excuse we were given was it took longer to get contacts that will work for her prescription. We have never had an issue ordering contacts for her at other places.
I have been a patient at Suburban Eye Care since I was in elementary school. I am now in my mid-twenties and my elementary aged daughter is a patient too and our experiences have always been incredible over the years! From front desk/check out to Dr. Arnold and his colleagues, all the way to the optical department. Hands down, your entire family will always be made to feel comfortable and taken care of. We just got new glasses with the help of Colleen, and for someone who is so self conscious when choosing new frames - she made the entire process a breeze!
I have been a patient at this optometry practice since I was 12 years old. They have always been on the cutting edge of technology and diagnostic techniques. The friendliness, professional care and high competency of record keeping that I have received over the last 30 years has kept me coming back. On my most recent visit Dr Arnold said glasses would help but didnt push me to buy them. He gave me the information I needed to make my own choice. I did go forward with buying glasses and Colleen was wonderful. She had my insurance information printed out so she could easily reference what my plan covered and found frames within my coverage. I would highly recommend this optometrist practice to anyone.
Great experience! The staff took every precaution to keep the place clean and prevent the spread of Covid-19. Everyone knew how to wear their masks properly based on posted signage and all the equipment and rooms were sanitized before and after visits. The doctor was very friendly and clearly explained my eye health and what methods would be used to help it. Picking out new glasses was quick and easy. A staff member and I discussed my preferences and together we picked the best option. Highly recommend it.
I am so grateful. Dr. Smith and vision therapists Kara and Amanda were patient, encouraging, kind, and knowledgeable throughout the process of correction and improving my vision. The whole staff at Suburban Eye Care were always kind and helpful.I spent 7-years with medical doctors telling me I have chronic migraine causing my constant headaches, disorientation, and clumsiness. At times I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. When they acknowledged they didnt know what was causing all these symptoms and were only trying to manage my headaches I was devastated that I had wasted 7-years.I then searched online for my symptoms and most of the results indicated vision issues. I contacted my eye doctor who referred me to Suburban Eye Care. After my evaluation appointment they recommended vision therapy. After 7-years I was hoping this would not also be a dead end but needed to try. I was grateful for their confidence. I was impressed with the various vision therapy exercises and soon found I actually had more time without a headache, this was huge. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to not have a headache. Over time I also found I was tripping over or running into things less frequently. My disorientation is much improved and I continue to work to keep improving and Suburban Eye Care will be here to help me. Thank-you.
I had my first appointment with Dr. Arnold today. The staff could not have been any more welcoming, accommodating and professional. Sarah was excellent on the intake and patiently listened to my issues. I am not an easy case and have a pretty complicated history. Many offices and doctors are not patient or knowledgeable enough - not Suburban Eye. The real star that day for me was Colleen in the optical department. I needed to order a new pair of glasses since my frame broke. She told me that the lenses that I would need are not available nationwide foe almost a year! But, she quickly thought of a possible solution for me. She went in the back and found a frame that dit my lenses! I could not believe it. Honestly, I don’t think I have ever received such incredible service and graciousness. She will always have my business. Do not hesitate to make an appointment, especially if you are a “difficult” case!
This is my first Google review but I felt it was necessary. After some googling I found this website, called and spoke with Amanda Franklin who said she is the chief therapist. I was so impressed I made sure to write her name down. I had many questions about vision therapy for myself and my son. Other doctors said surgery is needed And we did patching forever with no improvement. She spoke with me for quite awhile, asked questions, answered all of my many questions, and explained things in a way that made so much sense to me. Her level of knowledge, professionalism and empathy was astonishing and something we need more of in this world. I can tell we would be in good hands with her and she spoke highly of the other staff also. I unfortunately dont live in MI but I would drive hours to come to this location after the conversation I had with her. If you live in the area and need vision therapy I would 100% say call Amanda Franklin, this young lady is something special.
Met Dr. Jacobi at Landmark forum, he’s super friendly and humorous, making everything much much funnier and happier. We all love being around him ☺️Also found out he’s a partner of Suburban eye care, he’s definitely the best Dr. ever based on his personal quality. Highly recommend....You must visit here to see him if your eyes need to be taken care of.
My family and I have been going to Suburban for two years now. We had good experiences with the Doctors but not with the checkout experience and hidden fees. They mentioned vision therapy for our son and without asking for our approval, added it to our bill. When our total was higher than expected, we discovered the charge for vision therapy that we did not agree to and did not plan on doing. Thankfully, we caught it before paying.Today, I went in to get a routine eye exam and more contacts. My prescription did not change from last year and I like the contacts I have so all I had to do was order new contacts. On my bill, on top of a $100 Contact Lens Evaluation, I was also charged $119 for Conventional Contact Lens Service. When I inquired what was covered under this service, I was told it was a mandatory charge for fitting contacts and making adjustments if needed. I explained that I didnt need those adjustments since I would be ordering the same exact contacts I already have. They didnt care and with an attitude said this was standard procedure. So, I was forced to pay for something I dont need. I could give more examples like the upcharges on eyeglasses, etc, but I will stop there.Just be warned that if you go to Suburban, you will want to review your bill and ask questions before you pay. And dont be intimidated if they act impatient or frustrated with you when you ask your questions. Thats apparently standard practice there, so stand your ground, and only pay for what you need. We will be finding another Eye Care Center that does not nickle and dime you for services you dont need or plan on using.Lastly, since Surbaban states in responses to many other reviews that they want to learn from the feedback, heres my advice: Dont make mandatory charges for services customers dont need. If you have a loyal customer who has already paid the $119 charge the prior year for adjustments, dont charge them the same price the next year when they are literally using the same contacts and dont need the adjustments. I would rather pay when I need the adjustments than pay for nothing. That feels unethical to me. Be patient with your customers. They are why you exist as a business. Stop acting like you dont have time for them. Show them their bill before they pay it so they can view all the fees. Let them ask as many clarifying questions as they would like and be glad to answer them. Be honest about charges up front and ask for explicit confirmation before you add charges to someones bill.
We had such a great experience at Suburban Eye Care. My daughter is 5 and very curious. Jessica answered all of her questions and kept her giggling instead of nervous. We saw Dr. Jacobi and he was hilarious and very informative. My daughter is very nearsighted and Dr. Jacobi explained his entire plan to keep her out of very thick glasses as she gets older. Amber helped my daughter pick out her new glasses and she was so great! Getting glasses during a pandemic was a different experience, but my daughter had no idea. Amber brought out every pair that would fit, about 10, and they were all cleaned and safe to be tried on. Picking up the glasses was a special occasion for my daughter as well. The team at Suburban Eye Care had her glasses ready to be fitted and had a goodie bag for her with lens cleaning spray, an extra cute case and even a few chocolates. I’ve already scheduled my other child to go in and I will be recommending Suburban Eye Care to everyone!
Our son went through the vision therapy program at Suburban Eye Care. Last school year, his first grade teacher recommended the program to us. My husband and I are both teachers and were a bit skeptical. We hadn’t ever heard of this type of program and weren’t sure if it would help him. After talking with Dr. Jacobi and the helpful staff, we decided to give the program a try. I am so thankful that we did! They found that our son had trouble tracking (not sure what the technical term is) and that was why he was struggling so much to read words accurately and fluently. The program, for us, lasted about 9 months. During that time, we had weekly therapy sessions with his amazing teacher, Miss Kara and check-ins with Dr. Jacobi. At the completion of the program, we were blown away with the results. He moved up 9 reading levels! Yes-nine, in one school year. I am a reading specialist and have never seen a jump like that! His test scores skyrocketed, homework became easier, and we saw a huge boost in his overall confidence! I can not say enough great things about this program after seeing how much it helped our son!
I had my first appointment with Suburban Eye Care yesterday after being a long time patient at another eye care practice. I had a medical emergency in December and since then my vision has been off. I went to my eye doctor several times, he said my eyes were fine. I went had had several MRIs thinking maybe I had a stroke, luckily I did not. I decided it was time for a change. The experience here was so wonderful. Dr. Arnold and the whole staff are so welcoming. I work at a medical office myself so I know how important this is. P.S. Thanks Colleen for helping me find my new fancy glasses 👓.
Dr Smith was knowledgeable, professional, excellent and engaging with my kids! Each staff member we interacted with contributed to the offices friendly atmosphere. Samantha made picking frames easy. We are so glad to have found such a great place to care for our families optical needs!
I am a long time patient of Suburban Eye Care and I see Dr. Jacobi for all my vision issues. Following a Cochlear Implant in 2009 I struggled with imbalance problems, dizziness, walking problems and disorientation in the dark. Dr. Jacobi put prisms into my prescription which helped me for a while. Over time I was unable to take walks or drive as my problems grew worse ending up with headaches and nausea and always seeing my world with a rocking sensation or feeling dizzy. Following more examination my problem was diagnosed and visual therapy was prescribed. For four months I did my therapy under the watchful eye of Dr. Smith and therapist, Amanda. I was issued new exercises each week. I was evaluated each week. I slowly improved over time and now enjoy being free from headaches and nausea. I can walk much better now and I am driving again. I have my confidence back. I feel much better now than I have for years. I am now entering a maintenance program which is to fortify my progress. I would recommend this vision therapy to others suffering with similar problems. I would like to add that both Dr. Smith and Amanda were constantly encouraging, very supportive, always available, answered my concerns and very friendly. Thank you Suburban Eye Care! Kathy K.
I took my 8 year old child today for the first time to Suburban Eye Care for her annual check up.I was very impressed!- spacious and clean office- welcoming, friendly and helpful staff- friendly, caring and patient technician who performed the tests. She made my child feel comfortable.- Doctor Arnold is a very kind, caring, patient, understanding, dedicated and knowledgeable person. He made my child feel comfortable. He took the time to explain me all the different options available and answered all of my questions.- Miss Kim is a very sweet, caring, patient and helpful person. She helped my child picked out her first pair of glasses. We had a great experience!I highly recommend Suburban Eye Care and Dr Arnold.Thank you so much!
Our daughter went through the vision therapy program here. She had multiple things going on with her eyes that were preventing her from living her best life. Although the timing was not great ( she started right before COVID, they did everything possible to keep her on track and motivated. We met virtually and then eventually in person with many safety measures in place ( they were very good at keeping a high standard of safety as well) She grew leaps and bounds in her confidence, she wasn’t tripping over everything anymore, such a confident reader too!!!The program is not easy, and requires commitment from the patient and family, but it is well worth it!My daughter misses Ms Kara her therapist, and her check ups with Dr Jacobi. She felt very cared for the whole time and I felt they saw her and all others as individuals, not just another number. They get to know you and you feel part of the family.I would recommend this program to anyone who needs it!Even if you don’t, I know a number of athletes that go through this type of program to strengthen their balance and abilities.I can’t say enough great things about Ms Kara! She does great work!
Suburban Eye Care has been amazing for my two children. They both were not interested in reading, had very low confidence and chose books that were too easy. Now that they have graduated, we have seen tremendous growth in reading, writing, concentration and handwriting. They are reading at grade level and have much more stamina for more challenging books. Dr. Jacoby, Natalie and Amanda were wonderful to work with and made it fun! I highly recommend this program!
I have gone to Suburban Eye Care, P.C. for about 45 years, this last year it was too far to drive. I found a good optometrist closer to home.I have worn Silhouette frames since they first came out, I have 6 Silhouette frames.Imagine my surprise when this new optometrist said that they could order the frames temple piece that was broke on several of my frames. Suburban had me buying completely new frames, costing me a whole lot of money rather than just ordering the temple piece - which they never offered as an option.I am really disappointed in Suburban
Suburban Eye Care is the only place I now trust my familys eyes with. My daughter went through the vision therapy program, and I am beyond pleased! Her vision and reading have improved along with her confidence! Amanda is friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful. We cant thank her enough! Dr. Jacobi is also a great optometrist! He puts kids and parents at ease. He was also wonderful with my special needs son. I highly recommend Suburban Eye Care and wont go anywhere else now!
I had my first appointment today at Suburban Eye Care. Every member of the staff that I interacted with was very friendly and professional. The equipment they have is impressive. Each piece of the exam was efficient. Dr. Jacobi explained what was happening with my eyes and what he thought was the best approach long term. Finding glasses was not torture. She was able to find ones that would fit my face and then allowed me to debate while giving the right amount of input. It was a very good visit and am excited for my new glasses!
Everyone was so helpful and nice. Dr. Arnold took his time and explained everything to me. The ladies who helped me did too. So thorough too. Made sure all that could be covered under my insurance was covered. Last but not least ...Ive never picked out a pair of glasses so quickly. Vgreat service
Everyone I encountered at Suburban Eyecare was kind, friendly and professional. I felt comfortable there, as they made it a point to clean surfaces frequently and carefully between clients. I cant wait for my new glasses to come in! Thank you Natalya, Dr. Arnold and Amber, especially.
Amber helped me in the Optical Department and took GREAT care of me throughout my visit. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant. She is a true CHAMPION in the organization. My husband and I will always ask for her for all of our optical needs. I would highly recommend her to everyone who needs glasses or contact lenses.
I came here after years of being dizzy, having horrible eye pain and vertigo and my previous eye doctor failed to diagnose me correctly. Dr. Jacobi diagnosed me quickly and accurately and I am waiting for my new prism glasses to arrive and I can’t wait to feel like myself again! The staff is SO friendly and Dr. Jacobi has a great sense of humor and really put me at ease despite how stressed I was. I’m so happy to have found out about this place per the recommendation of one of the staff members.
Excellent and thorough eye care! I’ve been a customer at Suburban Eye Care for well-over 18 years. From a young age, my son has been too. I can’t say enough wonderful things about their highest level of care, professionalism, dedication and kindness! My recent experience with Pamela Apap, an Optician, was outstanding. She is a very talented provider of eye care, very kind, bright and made sure I left very happy and without any unanswered questions. The staff is welcoming and very knowledgeable, and I was confident dealing with everyone. Thank you for another great experience Suburban friends!
It was my first time visiting Suburban Eye Care, everyone was very friendly and helpful! I had an exam with Ashley and Dr Arnold and they were both very knowledgeable and very efficient. I felt very comfortable there and when picking out my glasses Ashley helped me pick out frames as well as Amber, they really helped in picking out the right frames for my face. I love it here and will definitely be my permanent eye care!
I have been a patient at Suburban Eye Care for over two decades. I am so grateful that Dr. Jacobi was recommended to me. His style and expertise always makes me feel confident that I am receiving the best care available. I really appreciate the fact that Dr. Jacobi stays current on research and treatment options for his patients. The entire office is friendly and welcoming. Everyone is willing to answer questions and address concerns. Their professional approach makes the entire visit pleasant.
I have been going to Suburban Eye Care for many years. Their state of the art technology provides a thorough eye exam without any eye drops or waiting. Dr. Jacobi are wonderful and spends as much time as necessary to address eye and vision concerns. His staff is friendly and accommodating, which makes for a pleasant and timely experience. I also chose glasses from the large selection that they carry. Amber spent extra time listening to what I like and helping me find the perfect glasses to compliment my face and personal style. I absolutely recommend Suburban Eye Care.
Very short wait. Staff was extremely efficient and provided answers to all my questions. Dr. Arnold was super friendly and made me feel at ease while thouroughly explaining everything he was doing and observing. The woman in charge of helping me select frames was amazing. She gave her opinions and helped immensely while choosing my new eye wear. Best eye appointment experience ever.
Im an existing Ortho k patient newer to Michigan. Ive had the same prescription for over 15 years (Ortho k prescriptions dont generally need to be changed) and was looking to get a new pair of lenses. There arent a lot of options for this form of vision correction, but I sure am glad I found Suburban Eye Care! They have been extremely friendly, timely, and professional every time Ive visited, the office is beautiful, well-kept, and clean, and unlike the other local optometrist I visited last year, they didnt try to charge me all the initial Ortho k lens fitting fees just so I could order the same prescription that Ive been using for years (which are generally over $1k). Highly recommend this office! And if you dont know about Ortho k, I recommend asking them about that too. I love not needing any vision correction during the day!
Amazing staff! Dr Jacobi is super funny & connects with all ages! My whole family loves him, kids & adults alike! The techs are fantastic & super helpful!Amber helped us find the perfect glasses for myself & my teenage son! She has a great eye for finding the perfect pair for each individual!
Great experience! Thank you Suburban Eye Care for awesome service.I came in pre pandemic and then 3 months later for a glass fitting. Clean and sanitized with the right policys in place. All the staff were wearing masks and constantly following up cleaning after every customer. Amber helped with my glasses fitting and was awesome!
Been looking for friendly, economical, insurance accepted eye care and I found it with my sons referring me to Suburban Eye Care in Livonia. Great staff ,doctor very informative. My main concern was affordable eye care as well as frames. On a tight budget, and the staff took there time finding me frames I could afford with the doctors help. Thanks again Suburban Eye Care. Took a few business cards for guys at work as well as my wife.
I have nothing but great things to say about Suburban Eye Care. Dr. J is GREAT. My 2 year old son took part in the light bed therapy with Amanda. She was phenominal with my son and the therapy defiantly helped him. The rest of the staff was great as well. They were always so happy to see us and the facilities are great. I appreciated the hot coffee while I waited for my son. A staff member also brought in home made cookies - a great treat for my son after a session. I would recommend them to family and friends for all of your eye care needs.
Yesterday was my first time here and it exceeded my expectations. Excellent and thorough eye care by Dr Arnold! Dr was on time and didn’t rush through the exam. Dr Arnold made sure I left very happy and without any unanswered questions. At my visit I was able to find out why I been getting migraines for so long! Every staff member I interacted with was very welcoming and knowledgeable, and very kind! Will definitely recommend this office to friends and family.
I would like to thank very helpful staff at Suburban Eye Care for the amazing service they provided during my recent visit. They truly went above and beyond the normal call of duty, ensuring that my new prescription sunglasses arrived prior to our departure for a long vacation. I am continually impressed by everyone I come into contact with at your office. I always have, and will continue to, recommend you to my friends and relatives for all their eye care needs!
Dr Arnold gave my daughter a very extensive exam & was able to determine that contacts were needed and found problems that was never found before but other doctors. Dr. Arnold also determine the contacts will help with the ongoing migraine headaches.Amber and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful. They walk my daughter through all the steps of wearing contacts in work with her until she was comfortable and using them and taking them in and out.The one on one patient care was the best Ive seen clients for life
Our family has been going to Suburban Eye Care for over 15 years. They have helped my son with vision issues when he was struggling in elementary school. We have always received great eye care. They are very thorough in all aspects of eye care. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I recommend Suburban Eye Care to all my friends and family.
Had a great experience at Suburban eye care. Convenient hours, open late a few days of the week and Saturdays. The entire process was smooth from scheduling, follow up reminders, check in, the exam, looking at lens and frame and checkout was easy when you know what is provided on your optical plan.
Im an adult who went through vision therapy myself. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Jacobi and Amanda, as well as the rest of the staff.Dr. Jacobi listens and empathizes with you. He wants what you want -- to be able to see better. He is always so positive and cheerful, you always feel better about everything after you see him. But most of all he is a great eye doctor. He understands vision and vision issues in a way that very few eye doctors do.Amanda is an amazing vision therapist. The program is so well structured. You learn skills and build on them. At every step the patient can see his/her progress. So you are always motivated to do more.Amanda is patient, always gearing the program to fit your needs exactly. She is always encouraging, kind, and thoughtful. It is easy to tell her about the progress or problems you may have had. She always treats you with compassion and respect, and will work with you to achieve the very most that you can.I am so very grateful that I came to Suburban Optical for my vision therapy needs. I am so pleased with the wonderful care that I received and the great results that I achieved.
Great eye doctor, Dr. Arnold. The place itself is a what I would expect from a high quality eye care business. Dr. Arnold is a cut above. I had a vision concern that my previous eye doctor could not help with (a.k.a. would not take the time to listen or did not have the skill/experience to solve). I left Suburban Eye Care with everything handled - perfect prescription, contacts, glasses, drops, supplements, and an understanding of my eye health.
My entire family has been going to Suburban Eye Care for over 11 years and we absolutely love the level of care and feeling of family that we get from all of the office staff. From annual eye checkups to emergencies to visual therapy...we have done it all with them and are so grateful for their excellent care and expertise! Highly recommend this practice at every level!!
Years ago the eye specialist that took care of the corneal graphs my husband had, referred us to Suburban Eye Care for regular eye care. We have always been very happy with everything there.I appreciate also that Dr. Jacobi has volunteered to help children at my school often. Everyone at Suburban is very friendly and helpful.
Vision therapy has made a huge positive difference in my sons life. Amanda was so patient and kind to him; I always really felt like she was truly invested in him and wanted him to succeed. He has made huge improvements in reading and at school in general which has really boosted his confidence! I cant recommend Amanda enough and the whole vision therapy program, it changed my sons life!
My daughter is a patient of the vision therapy program at Suburban. Her therapist Amanda is amazing, and so is Dr. Jacobi. When my daughter was in 1st grade she was struggling with reading related issues. Her left eye also had a slight outward turn when she got tired. I had taken my daughter to several pediatric ophthalmologist prior to going to Suburban Eye Care. Once office prescribed glasses, and the other offices just keep watching her eye condition. The problem was NOT getting solved, and my daughters self-esteem was dwindling. Homework was a nightmare in my home, and my daughter told me that she felt stupid. I was devastated to hear that my child felt this way.During our first appointment with Dr. Jacobi, he told us about the vision therapy program. He was confident that my daughter was a candidate, and that she would benefit from the therapy. I attended the parent workshop, and had the chance to meet my daughters therapist. She answered all of my questions, and appeared passionate about her work.MY daughter graduated today from vision therapy! Her grades have drastically improved (she is a straight A student), she loves to read, and her self esteem has sky rocketed. I was skeptical in the beginning, but now I am grateful for the team at Suburban Eye Care. Vision therapy does involve some work, but the results are worth the effort. I would strongly recommend the program to any family seeking help for their child.
Weve been seeing Dr. Jacobi and his staff for many years now. Two of my daughters did vision therapy and it was the best thing that ever happened to them for their academic career---No more tears at homework time and actually being able to complete work independently. We highly recommend them for all of your Eyecare needs!
The staff and doctors on the medical side were great, I cant say enough about that part of the appointment. I made the mistake of rushing for the prescription order because I needed the glasses for my daughters wedding in 1 month. Several problems, they are 50% more expensive than if I took my prescription elsewhere. Its now going on 3 1/2 weeks, I still dont have my glasses. No communication from the store to let me know there was a problem. When I called I was told they didnt pass inspection at the lab and had to be remade, I asked them to cancel my order. I was told they couldnt because they were being remade. I explained that I was told 2 weeks but most of the time they are ready in 1 week. They contacted the lab and told be it would be another week, which now puts me at 2 days to adjust to first time use of progressive glasses before the wedding. Then about a hour later, I received a call saying they would be ready in 2 days which would allow me a litter over 1 week to adjust. That day has come and gone and still no glasses. Im upset that their prices are so much higher than other places, that they did not call me to tell me there was a problem and then that they refused to cancel my order. Basically Im at their mercy and nothing has been offered to me as a customer for the inconvenience. Poor customer service from the glasses end of the experience. After being contacted by Karen the manager, who assured me this was not how they normally operate. I have my glasses, Karen was very professional, understanding and appreciative of my review which allowed her to talk to staff about communication with their customers. In the end, Suburban made things right.
Suburban had already examined & helped my fiance with contacts because of what they specialize in. We went back yesterday because he would prefer glasses so we just needed help with that. He is a big guy and so we needed big frames. As we were trying to decifer what may or may not fit, or look good, Amber came out to help us. She had already familiarized herself with his prescription so she knew immediately what wouldnt work, and picked out a bunch of their widest frames for him to try. She spent all the time we needed to be comfortable, as she explained how and what we were covered for and what wed be getting. She even helped us calculate our total with what we had in HSA. She made sure we knew what to expect, or what may happen moving forward and really just took amazing care of us. Amber is an asset to the company! The other office manager who helped us was also very sweet & professional but we were able to joke & laugh with everyone. We really felt like they helped us make the best decisions we could! What a great place, I would recommend anyone to go there who can wait to get in. I dont believe I need glasses (yet) but I do plan to go there for an eye exam soon just to make sure I am accurately prescribed if I do need anything.
Weve been going here as a family for both adults and kids for three years. The service is always great, Dr. Jacobi has a great beside manner but he is a talker. He has always been thorough, clear, and cares about making sure you are taken care of.They are a bit expensive but your visits include follow up care and weve never been charged when I had to go back because a contact caused an injury or my daughter broke her glasses. We recommend them to all of our friends.
I’ve been going to Suburban Eye Care for over a decade and won’t go anywhere else. When I moved to NH, I started planning my trips back to MI to coincide with my annual eye appointments. Their staff is friendly and professional and the selection of frames is huge! I highly recommend Dr. Arnold and Amber in the frames department.
Dr Arnold, Pamala Apap, Christine Martens did a wonderful job of making me feel comfortable and gave me piece of mind about my eye exam results. They were all very kind courteous and professional. Pamela was also very helpful and knowledgeable in finding just the right frames. We were the last appointment and we didn’t leave until 8 pm but no one rushed us or made us feel like we were imposing
My golden rule has been:If you are going to complain, offer a possible solution, else you are just a complainer. If you see exceptional service / behavior, comment to the decision maker, else you are just a complainer.Today, I experienced the latter. As I was blessed with 20/15 vision, years have gone by w/o an eye exam. But, as we get older, all of our eyes minimum focus moves away from our nose. Today, was my time... Christina greeted me and took me through the checkin process. Under her mask it was clear she had a real smile as her eyes and voice confirmed her positive attitude toward my care.WOW, what an experience. Jessicas skills and professionalism were impeccable. The equipment she used state of the art. No more blasting a puff of air to test for glaucoma. Extreme example of a professional who is great at her job and enjoys helping patients.Next, Rachael assisted Dr. Jacobi in my further exam. Again, both Rachael and Dr. Jacobi were very welcoming and expressed real interest in my eyes health and my personal wellbeing. Again, high tech testing: No more reading a paper chart on a wall. Of particular WOW to me was the video exam of my cornea and retina. Nothing but praise for them both.OK, I need reading glasses now, and pilots sun glasses. On to Amber. She is from the same realm as Jessica, Rachael and Dr. Jacobi. Practitioners who understand patients have a choice with their care provider and our new norm of infection control measures. She asked me questions beyond the script Dr Jacobi had put in my eMedical records. Not rushed, not pressuring, but on my team for the best possible care. She selected a variety of frames for both needs. Amber nailed it the first time. Her selection had variety and included the perfect frames for me.This group of care providers are second to none. Empathy is their middle name.
We have nothing but good things to say about Suburban and their staff. My son just finished the Vision Therapy program there with Ms Amanda. Although the program was a little pricey, and not covered by insurance, it was well worth the result. My son had been struggling with reading for 4 years before we found our way here. Although he had also worn glasses for that long he had never had a comprehensive vision exam. Dr Jacobi found that his eyes were converging (or crossing) when he was reading. The therapy program helped him to strengthen his eye muscles and help his eyes to work together. He now reads for fun!
My experience at Suburban Eyecare was exceptional. I would highly reccomend to ask for Adelina. She was very personable and educated. She has a great sense of fashion. She gave me a pair of blue glasses that I never would have chosen on my own. She also made sure to educate me about my lens options. Thank you Suburban for a great experience! A little pricey but its worth it.
I have been going to Suburban Eye Care for several years, and I must say my experience has been nothing short of wonderful. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have been able to answer all my questions regarding not only my eye care, but my insurance coverage as well. I never have to worry when I go to Suburban as I know I am always in good hands.Rory
I have gone to many chain optometry offices in the past, and I have never received the care and services provided to me by Suburban Eye Care. I have astigmatism, and have had problems with contacts in the past. Dr. Arnold took the time to ensure my contacts fit me properly. I am very happy with my new prescription and contacts.
Suburban Eye Care has been a game-changer for our child! Thank you to Dr. Jacobi, Ms. Amanda Timbre, and the entire team for helping identify and correct the issues that were faced. They are professional and personable, always going that extra mile. As an educator, I feel the services they provide should be recommended to all children that demonstrate difficulties learning in the classroom, to rule out the possibilities of visual issues. We learned the difference between vision and eyesight. We are so glad we were referred to their office.
Amanda was super considerate and worked with me while I was away at college. This vision therapy has been life changing in depth perception, reading, driving, decreasing migraines, and so much more. This therapy has rewired my brain in ways I didnt know I needed help with. I had no idea I had this convergence divergence issue until I saw Dr. Jacobi. I highly recommend Suburban Eye Care with any vision problems!
Cannot say enough good things about this office. They got me in right away when I got hit in the eye with a brass casing at the gun range. Doctor Arnold was extremely helpful and understanding. They got my vision corrected and healed up right away with cutting edge technology. Im so happy I chose Suburban Eye Care!
I started seeing Dr. Jacobi after researching vision therapy. After muscle surgery for a lazy eye and lasik, I still struggled in all areas my daily life-only to realize it was because of my lack of binocular vision. My brain only used one of my eyes, it didn’t even acknowledge that the other one existed. I started vision therapy with Dr. Jacobi and Amanda, seeing improvements within a couple months. Going into vision therapy i was skeptical of course because I am in my late 20’s, but I can honestly say it has changed my life. I now use both of my eyes together and things I was so used to struggling with like poor reading comprehension, running into things, falling up stairs due to lack of depth perception, muscle pain in my eyes, avoiding eye contact and headaches- have all resolved. Amanda the therapist is fantastic, she is patient and understanding of the struggles I went through both before and during therapy. I get frustrated easily when I cannot perfect something and she always helped get me through when I was discouraged. She was so flexible with my crazy work/school schedule and getting me in every week, she always did what she could to make it a good process for me. It was a lot of work, time and effort but I can’t even put into words how drastically it’s changed my life. Looking back at when I started compared to now that I’m finished, it’s truly miraculous. I will continue to see Dr. Jacobi as my eye doctor and I will feel forever grateful for him and Amanda.
This place looked very professional. The Doctor and his assistants answered all the questions I asked. Amber helped me with the appropriate lenses and frame selection.I had to cancel my frame and lenses for business reasons and she helped me with the cancellation as well. I would highly recommend this place for eye-care.
My family has been a coming to this office for over 20 years!! Both the staff and the doctors are always friendly and helpful!! They never fail to show genuine care and concern for their patients! Their knowledge is outstanding and I always feel very confident in any diagnosis or treatment they feel is necessary! Not to mention their ability to put people at ease with great humor.
I took my autistic little girl here to have her eyes examined. There is a Dr there that has the most experience working with autistic kids (I forgot his name)that helped my little girl. He is AMAZING. He made my daughter feel comfortable. She was not scared. She was actually happy. He was making her laugh. I had previously taken her to an eye Dr in Southfield who specializes in working with children, but my daughter was so scared that she was shaking and she wouldnt let him perform the exam. He suggested that we go to Childrens Hospital and have her put to sleep so that he can perform his exam that way. He never spoke one word to her and never did anything to try to make her more comfortable. This was heartbreaking and I was not comfortable with the idea so I did research and stumbled across Suburban Eye Care, Im so glad I did. Suburban Eye Care was great with her. I thanked God many times for this Dr. Im so happy and Im so relieved. This will be my daughters eye Dr from now on. Him being able to make her comfortable and help her was huge. Thank you soooo much. If I had an award I would give it to you. I thank God for you. Keep up the good work.
I just took my daughters here and had no issues at all. There was no wait, we were brought right back into the room and the exam began within minutes. One of my daughters needed glasses and the woman who helped us did a wonderful job. She took her time and helped find the perfect pair. Overall I was completely satisfied and will bring my family back in the future.
Suburban is a great place. The docs are good and the girls are nice too. Our favorite tech Amanda became a therapist there but she still always comes to say hola to us and even calls to make sure we schedule our appointments every year. She is always so kind and helpful to me and my wife who is sick with ALS. It is nice that they have someone to speak our language Spanish there. We are sad to move away we will miss her and everyone there! thanks for everything
I believe I just googled treatment for amblyopia and started reading. I kept coming across vision therapy as a treatment option but I had no idea at the time what it was. I mentioned it to her ophthalmologist and she was quick to tell me it wouldnt help. Ok, cross that off the list. And then I was reading the blog of a mommy blogger I follow in Texas. He son was doing VT and was quite successful. Put that in the back of my mind. Holly was in school now and was beginning to show some struggles with reading. I mentioned it to my mom and she mentioned it to a friend of hers who is a reading specialist in a nearby public school. She said we should look into this place that several of the students she serviced for reading struggles went to (spoiler alert, it was VT). Again, tuck that away. My aunt, who is not local, mentioned the patching and reading struggles and lazy eye to a co-worker. She told her we needed to look into this place (nowhere near us!) that her daughter went to for help. I googled the place and it was a vision therapist on the west side of the state. This was now the THIRD time VT had come up. Time to explore!Google brought us to Suburban Eye Care. I knew based on the research I had done that if we were going to try it, it was going to be costly. At our initial consultation, we felt very welcomed. Everyone in the office was kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. Holly fell in love with Dr. Jacobis humor and would always say my eye doctor is soooooooo funny. Holly was evaluated and we started talking about a treatment plan. Dr. Jacobi was confident Holly would benefit from vision therapy and in about 9 months or so. And then the cost. We knew going into it, it was going to be costly and it is, but in the end, we decided our daughter was worth every penny to give it a try. We also decided it was something we had to try or else we would always have that regret of what if we had tried. Each week we were given individualized activities to complete by our fabulous therapist, Ms. Amanda. We went all in. We faithfully did our VT nearly 7 days a week. I say our VT intentionally because it was a family program. Hollys 14 and 16-year-old brothers were part of the plan too. It was rare that Holly would complain and it was usually if we had a particularly busy day and had put it off too long. She knew at 7 years old that everything she was doing was to help her vision and make her eyes as strong as possible. Through a lot of hard work and some extra time thanks to Covid 19, we saw our daughter who once complained of headaches while reading and jumping words and blurry letters become a stronger reader. When forced (I use that word appropriately) to read before, Holly always found many excuses to stop or take a break or change books while reading. Now Holly is right on track with her grade level peers in reading. She no longer complains about reading. Another surprising change was her handwriting. Handwriting was not even on my radar as far as being improved by VT but it did!So, to the parent(s) questioning whether or not VT will help their child, I would say go for it! Something brought you here like it did me and its not accidental. Get ready for lots of hard work and fun work and progress and success. Get ready to see your child graduate from VT with loads of pride and success.Danielle Chesney
I have been coming to Suburban Eye for years, and I must say that they have always been professional and have taken care of me. The staff is very professional and friendly. Any concerns or questions I have about my eye and my health, the doctors have always answered them and addressed any issues that I might need to look out for. They have always been able to work with me with appointments and getting seen if it has been urgent.
Not happy with the optical department at Suburban, they quoted me $1000.00 for 2 pairs of glasses using my insurance and I was to provide one frame. I went to Costco to have my prescription filled and there was a problem with the computer glasses they provided, Costco is willing to remake the glasses, but Suburban will not return calls to Costco on how they can improve the glasses. I have been going to Suburban for years, but things have changed within the past 2 years. I have to say I will no longer be going there.
I have been with Suburban Eye Care for around 15 year they have always been helpful and friendly. I have had a few different doctors over time but they all have been great. I even have moved farther away and still go to them because of their customer service. Would recommend to anyone!
Dr Jacobe has been a phenomenal help to me over the years of needing corrective lenses from 5th grade on. I recently tried going a cheaper route with Henry Ford Optimeyes and regret that decision. After poor service and products there, I saw Dr Arnold. He took so much time to take care of me and make sure my eyes were really dialed in. He got me seeing well again and Im so grateful for his wonderful care/expertise. Go see suburban if you want your contacts/glasses to be proper and last long. Yes, you will pay more than those bargain joints, but it will be worth it.
From the time I walked in the door to the time I walked out I had a positive experience. Everybody was friendly. My doctor was on time, and I didn’t have to wait forever. And I got a lot of help choosing new glasses. I have recommended several people to you guys and will continue to do so!
I feel compelled to share what a great experience this visit was. I was checked in, offered a cup of coffee, taken right into an exam room where after the initial exam, I waited for maybe 5 minutes for Dr Jacobi. Every was friendly and helpful. I walked out, having ordered glasses and feeling good about it. Would highly recommend Suburban Eye Care.Sherri
This place gets actually gets 0 (zero) stars from my family. We ordered glasses for my daughter about a month ago, telling them how important it was to get the glasses before she left for camp. But when the glasses came in, they had made a mistake in the sizing, and they had to go back the lab. At this stage, there was still plenty of time before my daughter left, and we were assured the new frames would be ready in a matter of days. From that point on, weve gotten nothing but a runaround from Suburban. Weve called them a number of times in the past few weeks, and all they do is blame it on the lab and tell us the glasses will be here soon. Which doesnt help my daughter any.In fact, after I waited 90 minutes for someone from Suburban to return my call this morning, we were told that the lab hadnt even started working to get us a new frame until today! And that the glasses still wouldnt be available for another six days.Needless to say, if the glasses dont appear by then, Ill be back to try to figure a way to give Suburban negative stars for a rating.
I could not find anyone in China to help my son. I could only find one professor who told me Yuelin had vision problems but they could not work with him one-on-one like this place does. They did not have therapists like you. School is so hard for kids with these problems; it is impossible! This program helped my son so much with his reading and schoolwork. Now he can read more than just picture books, and even his art and sports have improved. This will change his life and it only took 9 months. The doctor and therapist were so helpful and great here. Thank you so much! I will be telling all of my friends about this program.
Been going for years. The staff is simply fantastic. The customer service is better than any place I have been for eye care. The selection of frames may not be as great as some places but the level of eye care and service to me as a customer more than makes up for it. It is a great experience with great eye care.
I was referred here by my sons ABA therapist. Dr. Jacobi and Amanda (vision therapy) have been amazing in getting my autistic son the help he needs to focus on objects and progress in his various therapies! They have given me and my family hope that my son can focus, learn, and thrive!
I went to this office about a month ago and I was not very happy. I have to say the thing that annoyed me the most is that I waited so long. I could not believe how long they let you sit and wait to be seen. Once I was in the room the doctor came in and I have to say I was not impressed. I just feel like he cared only about my money. I know money is what keeps a business going however you have to make the customer feel important too. Once I was done with the exam I was take to get my glasses where a man helped me. I just felt like he kept pushing me to get things I did not want. My bill was outrageous as well. Overall a very expensive trip with a long wait. If you go prepare to stay all day!
Office staff was incredibly friendly. They explained what the different machines were for in an understandable way. They worked hard to keep my out of pocket costs as low as possible. Dr. Arnold was awesome, friendly and took his time with me. I did not feel rushed at all.
Amber W is excellent! The time she spent with us and the options we discussed made us feel as though we were sitting at the kitchen table with a family member or trusted friend. Amber truly cares about finding the best option for the patient - Not a salesperson. Amber is the real-deal!5-Stars for Amber, 3-Stars because Suburban is pricey - 4-Stars overall.
Several years ago I was talking to a stranger at a homeshool book sale when she told me about a doctor who gave her son special glasses and her son no longer struggled with school. She gave me the number to the office and I tucked it in my wallet. My son, Willem, was the second son I homeschooled to struggle with reading. This time around I knew what to expect. Go slow, be consistent, praise him for the slow, incremental successes. But struggling with school was not the only issue this son had. He was very clumsy. I always said he is not the child you hand a tray of deviled eggs to and have him take them to the table. I thought he would never ride a two-wheeler and he was constantly losing his stuff. Even important things that he cared very much about. By the time I brought Willem to Dr. Jacobi, I had already brought his older brother and suspected hed get the same diagnosis. Except he didnt! Willem was struggling with eyes that go the other way :) I was really excited when Dr. Jacobi immediately honed in on gross motor skills and wanted to work with him. Those were some of my concerns, too! After Amanda (the vision therapist) evaluated him it was clear that special glasses were not going to fix his eyes and so we began 6 months of vision therapy. Thankfully, Willem was a happy camper and a super good sport about therapy because its a lot of work! Every day you have to keep at the exercises and practice. But if you ever get a chance to meet Amanda, you will see that you can do anything with her help! A constant cheerleader and problem solver. Attention to detail is just one of her many giftings. She encouraged me so much and never doubted Willems ability to succeed at any exercise. We loved the feeling, after several weeks with a difficult activity, of conquering it and seeing that now it was easy! When children struggle in school they can pigeon hole themselves into believing that they just arent good at things. But all through therapy we conquered hard things over and over. All with Amanda cheering us on. Willem graduated from vision therapy in November of 2018 and I would do it all over again!! Willems thank you note (writing! spelling! neat penmanship!) to Amanda at graduation said You changed my life and I couldnt say it any better myself :) Dr. Jacobi is one of the smartest men I have ever met. He is truly amazing at what he does and he really cares. And Amanda is passionate and smart and is doing what she was meant to do in life. I highly, highly recommend this office!
I had been going for years but Im not going back. Theyre starting to push more and more add-ons, like trying to sell you on supplements. They also kept wanting follow-ups that ended up being $90/trip because its not covered under my general health insurance or vision coverage. The doctor said the issue was allergy related and didnt suggest anything to actually treat the allergy. They also took the opportunity to push their supplements again. Thats on top of charging a $100 just in case contacts follow-up fee.
Dr.Arnold and his staff have been very persistent with my eye condition and I would highly recommend him and our entire staff to our neighbors and friends.Special thanks to Amy for her assistance with glasses and for making sure my insurance was OK for my sunglasses. Chuck Calomeni
I would like to say thank you to the talented staff of Suburban Eye Care. They not only devised the most effective way for me to spend the remaining balance on my flex spending account, they also assisted me with submitting my claim. This included taking the camera shot of my receipts. To this I again say thank you!
My name is Jaden Carlson and I am a professional womens motocross rider, who has been riding her whole life without depth perception, my eyes seeing together, not being able to see 3D, and not being able to judge distance (by like 15feet). I always knew that my eyes werent normal because growing up I wasnt able to cross them like the other kids and I was picked on for it. I was picked on through middle school because my eyes were different. Ive had 5 eye surgeries that were cosmetic to get my eyes to look like they were seeing together and all it did was confuse me and at times make me see double. Everything was more flat and didnt really pop out to me before, I couldnt see any 3D movies because of my eyes. So as all the kids were jumping when something popped out in Spy Kids I just sat there. I could see one eye or the other and didnt realize why everyone was so all about it. When it snowed it was like I was in my own little glass bubble and all the snow flakes were going around me. And some how I managed to get my drivers license without being able to judge distance. I was usually hitting my arms on corners of walls and usually just clumsy. I blamed it on its just how I am but it was just how I was seeing. And growing up at restaurants when you have to find out what the line goes to on the kids menus it always took me longer to do and I just saw how everyone else did theirs, not realizing that because of how my eyes were it affected a lot. My entire life has been different and affected because of my eyes. With coming here it has been a whole lot different and so far for the better. I have been doing vision therapy for around 10.5 months and I can now see 3D, judge distances (maybe off a few feet when I am super tired), I can see depth, I can cross my eyes, and my eyes can finally see together. Sure there were meltdowns in general with doing vision therapy because it was basically rewiring my brain after 21 years of having it be one way. And there was a lot of stress because of my profession and passion of riding a dirt bike, I go over huge jumps and I was terrified that if I saw depth that I would be scared to even ride again. That I would think that riding is nuts and I would have to find something else to be passionate about. I was actually starting the season of riding while going through most of vision therapy and I am lucky as ever to say that so far that hasnt happen with vision therapy. It has actually helped me be a safer rider by being able to judge distances so I wont land wrong on a jump. Also even when I had shoulder surgery (from riding) I was still able to work on my eyes and get them to focus on what was important. I was willing to put riding to the back burner for my safety and get my eyes to see right. And as you all can probably tell riding is my life and I would do anything to keep doing it. So as much as it hurt to take a step back and see that I needed to do this because it would help me for the rest of my life, it was entirely worth it. Especially as I am graduating from vision therapy on Wednesday!!! Its been a long time coming but with the help of the doc and wonderful staff I am so happy to be where I am now. Thank you all for helping me get to where I am today, I know it wasnt easy.
AVOID THEM! For my Mom: got an appt right away (Tip-off #1) Doc Jacobi was talking about everything, not really paying attn to his patient. Almost as if he was on remote control and couldnt care less. (Tip off #2) Went to select a frame after the exam. All frames shown us were ridiculously expensive. This is for an elderly woman, not a fashion diva. Should this Exam-Frame-Lenses combo really cost around a grand?!?!? (Tip-off #3) We went elsewhere for the entire process: prescription was very different (stronger), frames were reasonable: Total package cost $400. Suburban is indeed All about the money Avoid them.
I visited this place and got my prescription, however, I could not find a comfortable pair of glasses at reasonable price (without spending $300) and hence I went to another place to get my glasses. After all that, I found that it was miss-prescribed, and went back to them but they kept pointing the finger at the glasses are not right... They were not trying to help in any way without recharging me arm and leg for another examination... They did not even try to help. I later came to realize after another examination at different place and found there was a slight change in prescription, but this was couple of months after that. I did not go back because I was so disgusted with their attitude the first time. Theyre all about money and they should rename it Suburban My Pocket Care as oppose to Eye Care.... Dont waste your time or money with this place.... good luck

2022-02-08We are so grateful to have found Suburban Eye Care for our family. We have had 2 kids go through the vision therapy program. Both Amanda and Kara are amazing, kind, dedicated therapists who helped our kids to reach their potential and overcome obstacles. Dr. Jacobi and Dr. Smith are wonderful, caring doctors who truly see and understand not only what the patient is feeling and going through, but also set a plan to help them achieve their potential with sight, vision, academics, school and everyday life. The office staff is kind, helpful, prompt and supportive and are a pleasure to interact with. Grateful and appreciative does not even begin to describe how we feel about Suburban Eye Care! This the best place for all of your eye and vision needs!

2022-01-15Vision therapy truly was one the best decisions we ever made for our daughter. From day one to the last session Amanda was the best with her! Amanda always explained everything well, and made sure we understand each step. Vision therapy helped her gain confidence and become a much better reader! She actually enjoys reading now and does it in her spare time to learn new things. Vision therapy helped her to enjoy school more. Thank you all for all your hard work!!

2022-07-18My technician, Cayla, was friendly and really good, explaining everything as she gave me my eye tests. Dr. Arnold did my eye exam - very professional and also friendly. I ended up getting my glasses and it was a pretty quick process. Love my glasses. Id recommend Suburban for sure.

2022-03-28I cannot say enough good things about Suburban Eye Care and the entire staff. From the doctors who have immense expertise for every age and eye disorder to the desk and billing to the eye glass center and team… they are all excellent and offer a “customer first” approach. For many years I went to Henry Ford Optimum Eyes and was constantly treated like a number and had so many mistakes with glasses over the years that I thought it was me. Two years removed and several family members now going to Suburban Eye Care later I see it was not me at all. Do yourself a favor and give them an opportunity to help you… I wager you too will see that there is a huge difference in how they do things versus the large corporate approach. So glad I made the transition!

2022-04-24I would not go to Suburban Eye Care again. During the first appointment, the doctor gave me a diagnosis for an eye condition. I did not sense any compassion from her and was only given short, snippy, apathetic answers. She put minimum effort into my appointment- no testing to confirm my diagnosis, no details on the specifics of my diagnosis, no information about how to prevent this chronic, progressive disease from getting worse... I was only told to buy products from their office.During the second appointment, the doctor had a better demeanor, yet still no testing, no detailed information about the diagnosis, no information for me regarding patient care. The doctor simply looked at my eyes and the assistant conducted a very brief vision acuity test, but nothing related to my specific eye issues.I feel like I just wasted a bunch of money on these appointments. I had to go home and do my own research so I could learn more about my eye condition. After researching, I realized how little information was shared with me and how much more that could have been done during my appointment. Im going to another eye doctor so I can get the care I need.

2022-01-18Truly so grateful to have been referred to this office! We received nothing but positive news after a long 6 years of nothing but sad and heart breaking news from every other eye doctor we have seen. I would really like to thank Colleen for being such a wonderful soul & doing her absolute best to make sure we understood every step & worked so well with my 6 yr old!

2022-02-26Dr. Arnold was great. Took his time and explained everything that was going on with my eyes. When it came to picking out a new frame Amber was absolutely AMAZING. I have definitely found my new home for eye care.

2022-05-03I cannot recommend Suburban Eye Care enough! Dr. Smith was extremely kind and professional and all of the staff I interacted with was incredible! I have a high index prescription plus prisms and they made me feel heard. In the past I used primarily Henry Ford Optimeyes and SVS Vision and I felt like I was just another number and felt like the Dr’s were never confident about my prisms. At Suburban everything was explained, wasn’t rushed, and the Dr appeared confident in her abilities and diagnoses. I cannot wait to receive my new pair of glasses (which are too cute!) and I am excited to have finally found a competent eye care location that reflects their almost 5 star ratings online!
