We reserved time on the ice for last weekend Feb 13. This was because of the awesome reviews Ive read about Suburban ice. When we got there for open skate I was informed by the manager on duty at the time in a rude way that my young children ages 3 and 4 could not use their skate trainers we had brought. When I asked the manager why they couldnt, he informed me that on the waiver and the terms on line it states that no one can use devices to help them skate. I re read this 4 times and NO WHERE in the terms does it state this. I did get a refund but the rudeness by the assistant manager was uncalled for. He even told me if you would actually read when you sign up you would have seen that. Very poor customer service. We wont be returning.
Great place to have fun ice skating and or watching a high school hockey game. The food is outstanding, have great rental skates, and have many tables that you can sit down and talk to people in the main lobby. Just remember to bring a coat it gets cold in there. The prices are very reasonable their as well.
Very rude and unprofessional managers. Told us that a 4 year old had to wear a mask while open skating (mind you no one else was around). When asked to speak with her manager, he didn’t even have a mask on until he saw us, and neither did ANY of the adult drop in hockey players! She state it was the law under the governor, which is false. Their are plenty of ice rinks around with cheaper skating prices that don’t have employees who treat 4 year olds like criminals!
This place Is a wonderful place for new beginners like my self. Im only on week 5 And I can almost do a full turn when I havent ice skated in 2 years! This place is awesome and I highly recommend it. The teachers are wonderful and have years and years of skating experience. Everyone needs to sign up now!!
I wish they had more open skate times. They favor hockey and have multiple rinks but open skate times for the public are not very family friendly. The ice was great and well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. Please open up your public skating to more weekday afternoons/evenings!
The staff here is great, always on the ball. Concession stand is usually open, and the same goes for the Peranis (pro shop) there. The locker rooms are always clean, theres spigots to fill your water bottles right on the bench, theres an event room, TVs.Good place to play hockey no doubt, and the same goes for killing time while your kids are out on the ice.
Great venue for learning to skate or youth hockey. The rink seems fairly well run and organized with just a few hiccups here and there. Staff is mostly young adults that can have a tendency to goof around instead of actually helping, but I probably would have done the same at that age.
One of the best hockey arenas in Southeast Michigan. Employees are friendly and lend support to all of the organizations using their facilities. The place is always clean and maintained. They have two rinks that are maintained well. Even their concessions are good, with a few healthy and plant based alternatives like hummus and protein bars along with the usual concession stand foods, hot dogs, pretzels and popcorn as well as the typical beverages including hot chocolate. There is a handicap entrance, restrooms and seating areas in the arenas. This is a very popular facility, and sometimes free parking extends beyond the paved areas. Handicap parking is near the front doors.
Two really nice sheets of ice. Nice and newer facility. Adult beer-league hockey seasons are ran pretty well but they have bad icetimes for working adults which is one reason why I wasnt about to continue playing hockey there. Too hard for me to wake up at 5am when game times start after midnight...
We LOVE this rink. Our daughter has been playing hockey here for 3 years. Theres a Peranis inside and weve gotten most of her gear there, although they are PRETTY pricey. The employees at the rink are high school kids and they are really nice, and the coaches are great and really take time to work with the kids. Im not too happy about the Learn To Skate program. It seems like the girls pick their favorites and are too busy playing around and doing figure skating spins than teaching your child how to skate. We PAID for EXTRA private lessons for our daughter to learn to skate before putting her in hockey.
Very satisfied with this rink and staff, my son and I did two sessions of parent tot at another rink run by suburban and we werent thrilled with the organization and evaluation advancements. The last skating director has never been on the ice with the kids, he seemed to be above teaching the little ones, that was a major deciding factor that I needed to move my son. Macomb is much different, they treat each child as an individual and makes a proper assessment based on skill level and ability. Tracey is easily accessible and very much a leader by example getting on the ice with the most novice skaters and giving them the same attention as the most advanced skaters she works with. Ive found that other programs will mindlessly move each student on the same path regardless of ability, I believe this is done to maximize earning potential so every student has to take every class available. At Macomb Tracey took time out of her day to evaluate my son and place him three levels beyond what was suggested by the previous program which keeps him advancing at the rate hes able to, as well as gets him into the hockey program sooner! If youre able to check out Macomb, all of the staff is friendly, the rink hasnt ever been overwhelmingly crowded even at the most popular times and theyll have your childs best interest in mind if theyre enrolled in figure skating, hockey, or learn to skate classes. Very highly recommended!

2022-06-26This has been such a disappointing experience. I enrolled my child into parent-Tot skating. Our first session was with Ms. Susan who was absolutely amazing. We finished the course and decided that my child would repeat parent-Tot just to get her more comfortable and acquainted. We were so excited for the second session, but it ended in tears. Ms. Lena did not help or pay attention to my child at all - who was very clearly struggling to keep up. To make things worse, she played a bubble game and completely excluded my child while congratulating the other children on doing well and keeping up. My child was left sobbing and, being younger than 5, asking and not understanding why her teacher was being mean to her. A woman who worked with the organization saw and wanted us to try to get our child back on the ice. We tried, but she wanted nothing to do with it. After the class Ms. Lena came over and said she had run out of bubbles but would get more next time. That was where my issue with her began. The problem was that this issue was not about the fact that there were no bubbles. It was about the fact that my child had been left out, ignored, and left crying on her first day of class because of Ms. Lena’s actions. It upset me more because other parents saw and commented on what Ms. Lena had done.Since then we have not returned to class because my child is terrified to go. Fortunately, my child was willing to go with us to the public skate sessions where we have taken on the teaching role ourselves. I would like to try having my child go back to class with my husband again, but we will see. It’s upsetting not only because that is $110 down the drain, but because of the ignorance this teacher showed and the emotional impact it left on my child.

2022-02-08Will sticks and pucks ever be returning? Right during covid after opening up again I paid for sticks and pucks it got cancelled and I never got a refund or a call from a manager like I was promised. Place has really gone down hill the past few years … really disappointing.

2021-09-22Enroll my kid to hockey fall season, called several times to follow up because nobody contacted me, they always said that everything was okay and when season was already started I called and they told me that they didn’t had enough kids to open a team, break my kid’s heart because it was to let to look for other team. A notice or warning in advance would be nice to look for other options. But no communication at all.

2021-11-11Set up 8 weeks of ice on Wednesday night. Everyone from our teams show up to no ice for the night. No call to our teams. We have people coming as far as an hour away. This rink manager is terrible with communication. Find ice time elsewhere.

2022-02-08Great rink in the middle of no where. Kids loved skating on the pond in the back of the rink.

2019-02-23Shitshow of a rink. 3:49 left in a tied playoff game and the rink time ran out. Zamboni driver just opens the door while the kids are playing. Game ended so the next practice could start on time. Nice
