New favorite restaurant!!! The BEST salmon weve ever had. Grilled vegetables were delicious too. Im not sure how you can make noodles and rice taste so good next to amazing salmon and veggies but they did!!! Clean lobby with a small table. We ate there (while watching Godzilla on TNT on the tv🤣) and the guys working were super friendly. My husband and I split the salmon meal for lunch and it was a perfect amount. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I got carry out from the Livonia location, and within 2.5 hours we were both sick to our stomachs and were in a lot of pain with food poisoning. Also, the noodles were not very good in my opinion. But I will say, my veggies and shrimp were good, but either the salad, noodles, yum yum sauce, or chicken fried rice made us sick (those are the things we had in common with our foods). Unfortunately, due to what ensued hours after eating, we wont be coming back.
Im sad they dont have mustard sauce but the food is really good I like that they cook the rice a little well done
The workers are really hard working there. The wait for food can sometimes be very long, but food is tasty and worth the wait. Sometimes the veggies are a bit overgrilled and burnt, other times, they are almost raw. Food can be overseasoned and salty. They do cook the meats well there.
I really like the food here but the last 3 occasions I tried to call to place an order at the Canton location no one answers the phone.

Order is always hot and accurate! The staff is very polite and attentive, I order here once maybe twice a week for lunch and have never had an inaccurate order. Very happy with Sumo and will continue going.
When this place on Ford rd. First opened the food was amazing but, not anymore. Maybe they lost there best cooks. Now you get little bit size pieces of chicken hard cool & dried out. Even the vegetables are hard & dried out. They will not be there long. It use to be greatnot anymore. So sad.
Me and my wife just tried this place today. we are both in agreement that the steak is some of the best weve ever had. its a FLAVOR EXPLOSION in your mouth. the noodles and rice are tasty. I didnt get veggies but my wife says they are tender and flavorful. love the subtle heat and peppery flavor. staff was extremely friendly and helpful. this spot will be added to our rotation of delicious takeout. thanks a lot!
Really great food and portion size for the price! Rice is reminiscent or benihana which is hard to match! 1/3 of the price of benihana. My only complaint is they do get super busy and the yum yum sauce is yuck yuck. Should give garlic butter instead and stop charging extra for it. As busy as this place gets youd think maybe they would invest in a second phone line ???Edit: as much as I want to order from here... the food has made me violently ill on more than one occasion. Not once, not twice, but 3x this food has made me sick and all I get is chicken and fried rice. Obviously the ingredients used are not fresh. 🤢

Food was delicious, however, we placed a large carry out for our office, I got the chicken hibachi add shrimp, the total for chicken hibachi is $10, to add shrimp they charged me an extra $8! That’s almost another entire chicken dish!! Also, I asked for a container of extra garlic butter for our 11 dishes, they charged me $15. They are very over priced and a rip off, and they didn’t really seem to care when I complained about the price.
I was greeted from the moment I walked in the door, the inside was very clean. The customer service was AMAZING! My food was ready when I arrived and picking up take-out was quick. The food was absolutely delicious, the portion sizes were very generous. The food was hot and made for a great lunch choice. Cant wait to come back for lunch or dinner sometime soon. If you havent been here yet it is a must!!!
Place has amazing food. Been going there since it opened. The calamari is perfectly done. Never once has it been rubbery always tender. The steak and shrimp are amazing as well. Highly reccamend giving it a shot, you wont regret it.
This place has great food, good prices, and friendly staff. Definitely recommend trying it out. The fried rice is fantastic. Not greasy at all and the flavor is incredible.
I was so excited to find quick, affordable Hibachi and my expectations were sort of met. The chicken and steak were great, the fried rice okay, and the noodles were, well, fettuccine. That was weird. They were very bland, but when I added the peanut dressing that came with the salad they improved 100%. The salad was fresh and tasty. The soup was exactly what I was looking for, until I found more fettuccine in it. Maybe it fell in by accident? I don’t get Hibachi often, and unfortunately when I do it again, I’ll probably go somewhere else. BUT, the people were super nice, even though they were obviously very busy and understaffed.

I love this place! I was hesitant to review because I kind of wanted to keep it to myself but that’s not nice so yeah. So far I’ve tried the salmon, shrimp and steak hibachi. Meals generally come in good portion sizes (although I’ve noticed portions getting a little smaller as of late maybe I’m just greedy 😅). Customer service is great and orders are made fast and always correct! It’s small inside so I wouldn’t plan to eat there, if possible. However overall, I definitely recommend this place!
Happened to notice this hidden gem while at a red light yesterday. Looked at the menu online and we immediately decided this is where we are going to eat tomorrow. (Today😁)OMG!!! Portions are nice, customer service was exceptional but the best part was the food!. Everything from the salad to the rice to the noodles to the chicken. My husband ordered the hibachi steak whice he said was amazing except the steak was really fatty. But...everything else basically made up for it! That other chain hibachi place definitely has some competition here. Basically, now that I have found Sumo, I will no longer waste my time or money there. Keep up the great service and food and you have a lifelong customer here!

Absolutely love their food!! Very yummy and great prices! It’s my favorite hibachi place! They are very busy during dinner time and it can be hard to get through to place an order. I highly suggest ordering for lunch. I order at least once a week from here, haven’t had any issues.
Our office had lunch here and were very impressed. The place is clean and bright, and the staff is very friendly. You can tell the chefs are experienced, and the food was fantastic. The swordfish was great, the garlic noodles were tasty, and the rice was good and sticky. A coworker said the fried rice was great too. I will be back soon!
Picked up dinner at Sumo Grill for the first time today. Ordered the steak hibachi with shrimp. Everything was so good!! Great seasoning/flavor on the shrimp and steak. Also loved the fried rice, veggies, noodles, and yum yum sauce! Great portions and prices for the food quality. The restaurant is basically a carry-out only establishment. You won’t get the entertainment of a standard sit-down hibachi restaurant here, but the food is incredible. It’s a perfect place to get carry out from. Can’t wait to go back!
I ate at the Canton location. The food was not very flavorful. It tasted like l just sauteed the shrimp and vegetables in my skillet with a little soy sauce. I wont be going back.
Food was good, but we waited way too long for it. They told us on the phone it would be 45 minutes, wound up taking an hour and 20. They need to examine their process. I was in a hurry and would have gone someplace else if they had told more on the phone how behind they were.
Food is very good. However the estimated time to pick up was off by around 15 min. Was told 45-50 min. was closer to 1 hr and 15 min. It was a Saturday and they were super busy. Just wish they were closer to the correct pickup time. Will go back.
Took 45 minutes to be ready. Was freezing cold. Not even close to what I ordered. Gave me maybe 4 cubes of chicken. I’d look elsewhere and wouldn’t consider eating here for any meal in the future.

If you weren’t looking for this place you would miss it! Tiny spot with three chairs but amazing food! We tried the veggie and tuna dishes and both were delicious. The onion soup is small but tasty. The salad doesn’t sound that good from the website description, but for iceberg lettuce it is pretty incredible! We can’t wait to go back, everything was very tasty.
First time having Sumo Japanese Grill. Tbh I thought it was better than Ichiban across the street—which overloads on too much onion and teriyaki. However, I see what some people are saying about the chicken being a little too tough. I’m used to Hibachi spots down south along the coast such as Jimmyz Original Japanese Steakhouse. But I still think Sumo was pretty decent. I’m going to try it again.

Definitely try this place, you will be very surprised. Its easy to miss from the street and the store next door is closed, so curb appeal is lacking. Inside is a different story- the place is clean and shiny, with some high tech touches. The food is very reasonably priced, fresh and tasty. We ordered the shrimp entree as well as the scallops. Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted great and the portions were just right. This is basically Benihana to go- only better. Only reason I didnt give them 5 stars was because my quoted 15 minute wait for food was well over 30 minutes. Next time I will call ahead...
I admire this restaurant! They serve awesome dishes, their menu is rich, The chef in that place is very experienced, I love a lot tasting all their dishes. The food is consistently good, the service towards the clients is helpful. I visit often this restaurant and I was never disappointed. I recommend it to all my friends.
Me and my boyfriend have been trying to find a great Hibachi restaurant ever since we went on our Disney World trip last year and ate at the Japan Pavilions Teppan Edo. We love how Sumo is a takeout restaurant, great for when you’re doing an at home date night! It’s reasonably priced and worth it too! I always get the soup with my beef meal! The fried rice is delicious but so is the steamed rice! I always add shrimp as a side to my meal, too, for surf and turf. Would highly recommend this place!
Great good!!! The problem I have with them is that they are open until 8pm but quite often will stop taking orders way early! It has now happened twice where I’ve called only to hear they are accepting any more orders .... and it was 6:10pm. I guess to be that busy is a good problem to have....for them anyways
The quality of their carry out is superior to the take out of a famous hibachi chain during covid... and the cost is much cheaper.
The place was clean. The staff was nice. The wait for the food was kind of long but it was good. The vegetables were still kind of hard so the next time I go I will ask them to cook the veggies a little longer.

My favorite non-expensive Habachi grill. I know it’s not one of the big name places but if you try it you’ll be impressed. I usually get habachi chicken or steak with light salt (if you aren’t into salty food I suggest this). The food is always well prepared and there is always left overs for the next day. I don’t write many reviews but they deserve recognition for the tasty food they serve.
The rumors are true: The food is excellent!Expect this new little gem in Canton to quickly outgrow it’s spot.The tuna was wonderful- perfectly cooked and full of flavor. You could tell it was fresh from the first bite.Portions were generous and the salad dressing was really awesome- a nice, peanut ginger.My only recommendation would be to add a spicy option. Maybe a hot yum yum sauce.I also have to praise the owner for his handling of an exceptionally rude “customer” who came in trying to extort them for money. This individual came in screaming for a refund for food that she had already eaten— it was hard to believe how the owner was able to calmly endure her abuse for upwards of ten minutes until she finally had the decency to vacate.
I always order chicken or steak hibachi with fried rice and salad it’s never let me down. The staff is friendly and the prices are great for how much food you get. Sometimes there is a very long wait because they have so many orders!!!
My first time visiting this place today and was VERY good and nice portion size. The wait was long but affordable and worth every penny. Ill definitely visit again.

Sumo grill is so good. You get your protein, rice, noodles, vegetables and yum yum sauce for a good price and it’s so delicious. You get so much food it’s normally good for lunch the next day as well.My recommendation is to NEVER order it through Grubhub. I ordered the chicken and there was no description of it and all I got was chicken for $12 and then had to pay tip and delivery so I paid $20 for just chicken... yikes. This is Grubhubs fault, not sumo grill’s. So never order through Grubhub it’s a rip off! Get directly from sumo grill.
Best hibachi restaurant anywhere near here. Better rice than Benihana by far. The salad dressing is amazing. Just got pickup from there for the first time and I can promise we won’t be going anywhere else from now on.

Food is excellent, no disappointments there. The disappointments are with their phone system. I’d say it’s about a 50/50 chance if you’ll get thru to order. Either there’s no answer or the voicemail is full. And this has been since day one! Next disappointment is the wait. Be sure to plan well ahead. It’s usually a minimum 45 up to 90 minute wait. BTW I write this after the second time this week I couldn’t get thru. Go figure
Sumo is our go to for take-out in Canton. It is a very clean location with friendly staff. The hibachi chicken and chicken fried rice are our favorites. We cant get over how fresh the vegetables are and the chicken is always tender. Wait time has always been around 20 min and the cost under $20 for the two of us. Highly recommend!
I think it’s very good but you do not get the entertainment that get at the place across the street but it’s very yummy! and quick i got the chicken and steak it’s a great combo! i liked the rice but the salad and noodles weren’t that bad but i didn’t really like it.....anyway i liked its a wonderful restaurant! you should go there!
Best food in town hands down, they definitely need to invest in developing a app to order from because it’s hard to order over the phone at peak hours. Order before 6:30 because they stop taking orders even though they’re open till 8:30.

Cute little place that you’ll miss if you aren’t actively looking for it. $8 for a vegetable meal, $15 for a steak meal, etc.Entrees come with soup (chicken broth with scallions, fried onions and noodles) or salad, noodles, vegetables, and rice ($2 upcharge for fried rice) GET THE FRIED RICE! It’s so worth it! The Yum Yum sauce is super tasty!At least try it! I can basically guarantee you won’t be disappointed!!!
Sumo Japanese Grill has great tasting food. Everything is fresh, love the grilled vegetables, chicken and shrimp. I would recommend to friends and family. Prices are reasonable, but if you add in additional shrimp etc, prices could go up a lot, but well worth it.
Very good! Scallops were cooked perfectly and the noodles, steamed rice and veggies were too. It includes yum sauce. I also selected salad with a ginger dressing. They were clean, timely and professional. Go!
When I walked into this fine establishment I expected delicious food. I was utterly unprepared for the culinary masterpiece that graced my unworthy tastebuds a mere 15 minutes later.The tuna? Perfection. The steak? Spoke to my soul, and told me everything would be okay. The rice, vegetables, and noodles turned the beautiful solo of the meat into a heartwarming, delicious symphony for my tastebuds.I dont know what black magic they are practicing to conjure food this amazing at such low prices, but I wholeheartedly endorse it. I have eaten meals four times as expensive with a quarter of the taste. Whatever the chef is being paid, he deserves a raise - you all do.Also, they have orange-vanilla coca cola, which is pretty dope.
This place was a complete wreck last night. Carryout-only; we went in at 7:45PM, we didnt get out until almost 9PM (it closes at 8:30PM).We made our order and they didnt tell us how long it would be. There were other people waiting, but it didnt look like too many. Later, someone who ordered before us asks how long its going to be, and they replied, at least 45 minutes, we havent even started your order yet. Well, that was a little surprising to hear. We were kind of in a hurry and thats why we wanted get take-out in the first place, but we already paid and invested some time.A number of customers who phoned in their orders came in and not a single one of their orders were ready. They were not moving food at all and people were getting upset Later, someone comes in with a big, $100+ phone order. Their order wasnt ready yet. So youre telling me you had that big order plus a number of other orders and you didnt warn us it would take 45 mins. to an hour, or at least longer than usual? Careless and irresponsible.At one point, they had some phone orders ready that no one picked up. They were trying to figure out what to do with the food and a customer said, can I have it? The employee responded, maybe you can have it at a discounted price. Are you kidding me? You have all these people that have been waiting over an hour for their food, and you cant give them food that youre going to throw away or let employees take home?After all that time and finally getting our food, they never offered us any more than an apology. No discount, no coupons or certificates, and clearly no extra food. Very poorly handled.
Tried this place for the first time tonight. My husband and I both agree we will definitely be frequenting this place for take out! They definitely did not disappoint! Fried rice is amazing and their yum yum sauce is excellent!
The problem with place is it takes over hour, they tell you forty minutes then ask you to wait another 15mins after you pay. The food is not bad but they basically wait for multiple orders and cook like assembly line in large batches.
Saw this new restaurant pop up on Ford Rd and thought Id give it a try. The food is absolutely amazing with generous portions. Service was great and quick! Will definitely be making this a weekly stop for a quick healthy meal!
Currently still waiting on our food which was ordered about an hour ago. Same with every other person here. I cannot fault them for getting swamped but it is being handled horribly. When they took our order, they should have been upfront about the fact that they wouldn’t even start making it for 45 min. For all we know it still hasn’t been started and it’s almost a half hour past close. Our meals should be comped. Unacceptable.
The food wasn’t great at all. Pretty flavorless, under seasoned, and our steak was undercooked badly. Definitely won’t go back and will stick with going to a sit down hibachi.

The food was unbleavible the best chicken, chicken fried rice. Two man staff are incredibly respectful and very polite they traded me very well. The inside is very clean and not dirty at all. The chefs new what they were doing. The food was cooked very well and served hot just like it should be. The sauce looked different but was super super good. I recommend the chicken fried rice and the garlic noodles, and habatci chicken. Great meal thanks to sumo staff members.

Last night was our first time we visited this excellent restaurant. But It is no doubt not the last time. We had great time with the courteous service, with the superb cooking and fine drinks and with the modest payment. We will absolutely go back there again.

This place rocks!!!! Finally tried it today and Im very impressed. Really flavorful. Far better than ichiban across the street especially for value reasons. $10 you get soup or salad, veggies, sticky rice, noodles and chicken. I poured a little bit of the brothy soup (delicious btw) onto the sticky rice. Fantastic! Great job guys! Well be back!

An excellent take out restaurant for hibachi. While the steak sumo meal was very good, I think the salmon sumo meal takes the cake. Highly recommend. Wish they had more seating inside however
First time ordering they close pretty early and I didnt know. Called just prior to close, staff didnt say a word. Staff was friendly. Food was so good. Like soooooo good. Recommend to anyone for any occasion. Call early though on weekends. Time I am posting this, they had hours until 830 pm.
Im giving this place to Stars only because the food was good whats the wait was tremendously long so long it was like waiting to take next years vacation they said they had 20 orders before ours and we were carryout order I dont suggest anybody go here unless you got two days to just sit idle and wait for your food to be prepared its almost like its cooked over a slow oven and then is prepared and marinated overnight and waited till the day that you walk in to just start cooking it I dont suggest you go here if youre pressed for time

The Place is in Somewhat Open, but Isolated Spot on the Corner of Sheldon & Ford Rd. Its a Wonderful Hibachi Grill Take Out Spot with Fresh Ingredients! The Veggies are cooked El Dente and Crisp and the Salmon that I had was cooked to order just the way I Asked got It...Medium Rare! Delicious Flavor and it comes with Chicken Fried Rice or White Rice and Pan Sautéed Noodles. And Your choice of Salad or Soup. I Had the Delicious Chicken Broth and Noodle Soup. It all is finished with a Side of YUM YUM SAUCE, which FANTASTIC! I Believe its a RoseOrange Mayo based Sauce that is SOoooo Good! The Location is Not Great BUT THE FOOD IS! ILL BE BACK!
Carryout only place unless you dont mind hogging the one table. Dude makes hibachi food 10x better than the place across the street. You pay a pretty penny and get your moneys worth.
They always say 45 minutes but its really an hour. I wish they cut the time down but they are extremely popular. Its good and fresh.

Liked the idea of fast Habachi for busy work nights. The soup is mediocre, broth tasted similar to Ramen packets. But the Habachi and salad (I think peanut/ginger dressing) were good.

Horrible customer service I was told my food would be ready in an hour and when I got there nobody knew where my order was and then they said it will be another 10 minutes waiting 10 minutes and went back in and they said it still wasn’t ready unacceptable.

Live the food but they close at 8:30 which is says online but they stop taking orders 2 hours before. This has happened twice to me and unfortunately I will not be coming back.

2022-06-29Not sure what happened lately, but today I had two entrees ordered and they had way too much black pepper everywhere that it made it too spicy so my daughter couldn’t eat it and it killed the taste of everything else. This didn’t taste like hibachi more cooked food with way too much black pepper. Tried calling them back no answer.

2022-07-15So my coworker and I ordered for lunch and the food was amazing it never fails with the flavor and quality. My only issue is the portions were a little bit skimpier than usual but overall I will keep coming back and I highly recommend.

2019-05-12Good food in a good price which is a little more than enough for 1 person. We got chicken and salmon & both were well cooked. I got the chicken soup Instead of the salad which was delicious and the cup was big! They give an orange seasoning with the meal which is on the sweet side and i liked it.

2022-02-20Wife and I ordered from this place few months ago and again today. We ordered the hibachi shrimp and scallop today and both were super tasty and very satisfying. Id say each meal is large enough to fill an average person even though it does not look like enough at first site in the box I struggled to finished mine while the wife saved some for later.The staff is great and it looks like everyone they work in harmony.Love this place and will defiantly try their other items soon.

2021-12-08Canton location - Very nice service, food is always plentiful and the chicken is so tender. I really have no complaints. Yum yum sauce is probably the best I’ve had in Michigan.. this place is wonderful. They’re always busy too which shows you that i am not the only one who thinks so. Great place to grab a quick lunch. Just call in and order ahead so it’s ready by the time you get there because it does take time to eat fresh!

2019-12-27Salmon is tasty 👌. The rice is hot and taste good also. The veggies are full of flavor. The noodles arent great, they dont really taste like anything but butter. There was no upsell. The presentation is good. The sumo sauce is amazing. Ill be going again. Maybe some soy sauce or teriyaki sauce for the noodles, they are missing something.

I ordered Hibachi Shrimp and Hibachi Scallop and both dishes were very very tasty! 😋 The dishes include soup or salad, and white rice or chicken fried rice. I chose salad and chicken fried rice and both were very good! They also give you a side of their special Sumo Sauce, which I smothered all over my Hibachi and it was 🔥🔥🔥!!!! I cant wait to go back to try Hibachi Tuna & Calamari!!!!! Ill Be Back! Ill definitely be back.....
