Honestly one of the best Szechuan restaurants Ive ever been to and theres only one other one in Michigan that I think is good. The one thing I will say is the food is always consistent the food tastes good, looks good, and is amazing period. The presentation is well they just know how to do. The dumplings are really really good. Hunan chicken, and crispy shrimp. Excellent food!
My family went to Szechuan Restaurant for dinner. The food was delicious, the restaurant is clean, and the portions are big.My wife and I had the fried dumpling appetizer. They were very good. The wrap was nice and thick, but could have been pan fried a bit more. The filling and sauce was very tasty. These were some of the best dumplings we’ve ever had.My mom had the Mu Shu chicken and she said it was good, but not as spicy as she would have liked. My wife, dad, and I had the Kung Pao chicken. It was flavorful and spicy.
Awful. The Szechuan Shrimp was basically just shrimp and rice with some very sweet sauce. It was terrible. I also ordered the shrimp fried rice and the rice was basically just mush.. no idea how long it had been sitting there before they decided to grace me with a portion of it. How do you screw up shrimp fried rice? Well they managed. I will say that the young woman who gave me my order at the front desk seemed very nice. But this was quite possibly the worst meal Ive ever paid for. Never again.
Be very careful. I was SERVED RAW CHICKEN twice over today.I have eaten here for years. Always enjoyed the food. It has changed.I ordered almond chicken with the gravy on the side. Thank goodness I asked for it on the side because when I went to fork a slice of chicken it was visibly raw, pink slimy and totally uncooked in the middle. I checked every single piece and it was all the same. I wish I had taken a picture.I flagged the server and showed her what was wrong, she said, and I quote did you want to order it well done? WHAT!? We are talking about chicken, it is either cooked or it isnt. She took the plate to fix it. I assumed they would remake the meal since rice and egg roll had touched the raw chicken. NOPE brought me back the same contaminated plate, with the same rice. They seared the edges off on each piece and tossed it back on the plate. The insides were all still entirely raw. They also thought I should use the dirty silverware from the first plate of raw chicken to eat with. Had to ask for new silverware to cut in and check. Had to send it back, this time for good. They then tried to insist on feeding me. In most other situations I would have let them and would not have written this review, but this is a major health and safety issue and people need to know. They also still brought me a check for the 1 egg roll that they gave me on a separate plate and charged me $2.92. Petty.IF YOU EAT HERE, CHECK YOUR FOOD!
Pan fried noodles with seafood and orange chicken with no spice is what we ordered. What we got was tasteless spicy fried chicken that was as dark brown in color and some baked spaghetti noodles in a salt filled broth. Will never go back. If you order from this restaurant I guess you should order what the positive reviews mention
Ordered for the first time. Easy to order on line and although delivery time was estimated at 60-90 minutes, delivery was faster than 60 minutes. The chicken with cashews was ok- the sauce and flavor was good, tons of cashews but the chicken was chewy. Very good shrimp toast, crunchy and flavorful. The foil wrapped chicken was ok, could have used more marinade in the chicken. The chicken fried rice was very good. If the chicken with cashews was all white meat, this would have been a minimum of 4 stars.
Excellent taste. Food was greasy, but who bothers😀😀😀One of the finest food I had tasted at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this place foe anyone who wants to eat good Chinese food. One recommendation. The person at front desk could have been a little friendly. Maybe it had been a busy day, but should avoid being rude with customers
We had ordered a few times.food has been ok but today it was super salty, excess vinegar and we were actually searching for chicken in our lo mein. Flavors were good but salty food can never taste good.I was embarrassed to offer the food to my family…no one ate…we had to garbage it. May be not the right day for the chef… I think you need to increase the portions for the price you charge.
I was VERY bitterly disappointed!I ordered Sesame Chicken to go.The chicken consisted of fried skin & gristle - no meat. The sauce had an odd taste but basically blah. The 2 little pieces of broccoli were unchewable. The only items that were edible were the rice & fortune cookie. Obviously I wont be returning.
I would give it no stars if I could for there food and treatment today if I could. I got carryout and a dish I have had there for 30 years and it was totally different and not the same ingredients. They say they make it different from lunch to dinner, who does that. The lunch had the worst flavor so I couldnt even eat it. All I wanted was credit for the wrong meal, not my whole order. The lady was incredibly rude then said someone would call me. Once they gave me an entire wrong order and same sing and dance that someone would call. Never a call or credit. I have never left a bad review for anyone ever but the lady was rude and hung up on me. Shame you have people representing your business that are that awful to customers. I will never go back there
We have been going here for years. The food has always been excellent. I regret to say that we will not be going back ever again. We ordered food this past Tuesday evening, and the food was terrible in a nice way. Very disappointed. We ordered spicy diced chicken and sesame chicken and they were both light in sauce and the sesame chicken had no broccoli and sesame seeds. The spicy diced chicken was so dry. We threw both dishes out. They also forgot to give us complimentary fortune cookies. Wrote an email to the restaurant about our experience but they did not even bother to reply. They don’t care for their long time customers. Very Very disappointed with this restaurant. They have lost a long time customer. In Reponse to the Owners Reply: We did contact your restaurant the next day via your website but did not get any response. Its all good we have just decided that we will not be coming back to your restaurant as the quality of food has really declined.
The name of this place is very misleading. This isn’t Szechuan cuisine at all. It’s Chinese American. Maybe that’s fine if it’s what you are looking for. I was expecting authentic and spicy Szechuan food. Nothing we ordered had any heat or much flavor. Was fresh but generally bland. We did order the Ma Po Dow Fu and that was actually unedibly sour and the worst dish we ordered.
We have eaten at Szechuan since the Free Press food critic Molly Abraham chose it for best new restaurant in 1980-81. Usually we dine there (now via takeout) 2-3 times a month. Recently we ordered luncheon Gen. Tsou chicken and the chicken and shrimp with vegetables. Also ordered hot and sour soup. The soup was fine and the chicken and shrimp were ok but the Gen. Tsou was not good at all. The sauce was more of a jelly and the pieces were coagulated together and tasteless. Cutting into the chicken showed a poor selection of chicken pieces. To make it worst, both of our spring rolls had a bad odor and tasted terrible. Dont know what has happened to the quality as this used to be our favorite restaurant. Update - Called restaurant and left message for manager or owner to call me three separate times. Still no call back. Hostess confirmed the owner got the messages. Very disappointing.
The take out order was available when stated & the food was delicious. Unfortunately prices have really skyrocketed. Even though inside dining is opened, theyve chosen not to open that area. They were not busy at all but I seem to be inconveniencing the gal behind the counter when I asked for my food.
17.00 for general tao chicken I thought was over priced until I got home and its soooo worth it. Best Ive ever had hands down. Its a nice touch that they add bean sprouts. Slightly too salty for me but gf said it was perfect. Its the only time Ive been able to re-heat the chicken later on and it was just as soft and juicy as before.
The most gross food ever. No seasoning lumpy unseasoned gravy the chicken taste like a tough piece of air. My husband spent $60 on this greasy mess. I came home to disgusting inedible dog food. I say dog food because I gave it to my dog and unfortunately it upset her stomach smh
Not only did they put a $10 tip on order without my permission! They forgot my dinner and told me they will give me a store credit other then refunding my money. Was 10 min before closing time and told me they will not make my dinner for me because they were about to close. Unbelievable. Loved the food but will be last time I ever go. Was upset about $10 tip that I couldn’t change or take off then came home without my order. Disappointed to say the least.
Hot and Sour soup and the chicken for the lettuce wraps were so loaded with salt we couldnt even eat it! We ordered beef with snow peas and it was not beef but pork. Every other time we have eaten here it has been worth it, but not this time whatsoever. VERY DISAPPOINTING
Long-time repeat customer of this restaurant. It’s one of the top Szechuan places in the whole metro Detroit area. The food is excellent, and when I ask for it spicy it arrives quite hot, whereas a lot of places are afraid to do so. I live 20 miles from this place and still get carry-out from it.
Excellent service our waiter was so nice and accommodating and so good with the kids questions. And the kids had fun looking at the fish in the fish tank. They seated us promptly even though we had a large party and took our orders in a reasonably quick time. The food was very good I had the sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was just sweet enough without being over powering. I recommend for a family dining experience.
Fantastic food! This restaurant has spoiled me for every other Chinese restaurant. Nothing compares, I have been going here for over 20 years and have never had a bad experience. The food is not typical Chinese fare. My favorites are the Hunan chicken and the fried dumplings. The dumplings are so good, I have consumed 3 orders and no entree before.
Terrible! This place gave away my order. Then told me are you sure you are at the right place.when I got there. I spent 41.55 by credit card over the phone. when I got there they act like I hadnt called it in. They found my receipt with my name and the charge and then had to offer me anything that was available because I had to get back to work and couldnt wait for them to fix the whole order over. What they gave me I never ate before, It was spicier than I like my food and I didnt like what I had no choice taking because I hadnt eaten all day. I had to take someone elses order.
The smallest portions in metro Detroit! Havent been here since covid. Tried carryout bill was 80 dollars. I could have gotten more food from 1 dinner at best China! Best China leaves this place to shame. And also Steve the GM has terrible customer service as we explained tge situation and he said he wouldnt do.anything to.make it right. Lost a customer and will spread the word too avoid this place at all cost. Literally the sizes are a joke
Must be new owners or managers... carry out staff are unwelcoming. They forgot to include part of our order and refused to refund what was left out after I called back from home. Only option was to go back or get a credit on a future order. When I asked for them to deliver the missed item they wanted to charge for delivery. We have been regulars for 10+ years and the last few visits have had issues and poor service. Check the order before you leave.
We got dinner at Szechuan for Christmas Eve. Was a long wait and they let us know it would be 1-1/2 hours for our food. Man was it ever worth the wait so good!! We took the food to commerce twp. Thats what my son wanted for his birthday dinner. They live far away so we brought it to them.Thank you so much dinner was perfect and hot!!
This was the first time I had the sweet and sour shrimp, when I got home and opened the sauce it smelled like ketchup and was very gelatinous, the rice was not cooked all the way and the shrimp were very small and loaded with batter, after taking a few bites you could definitely taste the ketchup in the sauce and it was very strange, the menu said it was a citrus sauce which most sweet and sours are made with lemon or vinegar but this was ketchup YUK, the next day I picked up the menu to call and complain and I noticed in bold letters the menu said NO REFUNDS EXCHANGE ONLY, what kind of restaurant would not allow you to get a refund on something that tasted bad and was not as described, When I called I asked to talk to a manager but there was not one available when I explained my issue she asked the chef and he said their sauce is premade. She said would you like me to tell the manager and I said of course she offered no compensation to my complaint. So the only thing that was actually cooked was the rice and it was hard, come on a chinese restaurant charging $14.00 for a dish and everything is delivered pre made, yuk I will never eat here again and will be sure to tell everyone I know about how bad it was.
A little pricier than other Chinese places but this is a restaurant and not primarily a take out place .Got orange chicken and noodles for take out. It was good. Portion size was huge! My only criticism would be that the amount of orange peel in the dish was too much. However that is now down to personal taste and Im sure others would love it. When I went to collect the food the restaurant looked nice and staff were very friendly. I will take my wife here for a sit down meal soon and try a few other dishes.
The food at Szechuan has always been amazing; even with the transition to carry out, the quality and portions have been consistent. Szechuan has been on top of their game regarding covid safety too - they even have a little pen dispenser so you get a fresh pen each time.I highly recommend the Happy Couple dish!
One of my favorite place to eat!!! I have enjoyed eating here since a very young age and I have no interest in stoping this trend! If you are thinking of trying this place out I would recommend the dumplings 🥟, non spicy green beans, sweet and sour pork, pepper stake! But I am sure that if you have anything off the menu you will not be disappointed! I look forward to going in to eat there very soon!-Natalie Pearson
This is the best Chinese food in Canton, hands down. The menu is very large and the portions generous, ideal for sharing with friends and family. The interior is nicely furnished and I have never felt crowded even when it is very busy. Service is professional and quick. This is a must go to when Im in town visiting, and I try to introduce it to people who have never been. I cannot speak to take out orders, I personally have only ever dined in.
Food is generally good but was better when the parents ran it. Still food is acceptable. The wait staff has a tendency to be rude and we had to cajole them into smiling by smiling ourselves. May be it is a cultural thing. Pleasing the customer is not part of their system of rules, I think. I would give it at least 4 stars if the wait staff showed some warmth and patience. Smiling when we are ready to add a tip turns the customer off.
This is the best Chinese food I’ve had. I love everything I’ve tried. Sesame chicken and sesame beef are probably my favorites. The soup, pork fried dumplings and crab Rangoon are awesome too. Great quality, great portion sizes. They also have really good prices on their lunch specials.
Just simply not great. I never write bad reviews but this was overall a poor experience. Starting with how the food was packaged. I put it in a secure area in my truck and it was a smooth, very short ride. Packaging didn’t move at all during the whole ride. I noticed when I picked up the bag when I had arrived home that it was soaked. The soup I ordered must’ve been put into it’s container at such a high heat that the plastic Lid for the container had literally melted and split open. Soup was all over the interior of my new truck. It wasn’t just the soup. The sauce from the Kung Pao I had ordered was all over the packaging. They must have a issue with food leaking often because they put little plastic baggies around the carry out containers. I had to pay extra for brown rice. It was only a dollar or so extra but it was really dry and completely tasteless. Not to mention there was black hairs inside my rice, If it was a single strand or two I could see that. Mistakes happen stuff happens but there was a lot of black hair and I do not have black hair. The chicken was about average. The moo goo guy pan was actually quite good. Price was nearly $34 for 2 entrees and a soup. A little bit expensive. They also do not accept American Express so that is sorta Inconvenient as well. The service on the phone was good but upon arrival it was poor. I doubt I’d go back but I might have no choice since there are no great Chinese restaurants in this area anymore unfortunately.
Was told I was out of the delivery range because they said their delivery range is 5 miles..I am 3.8 miles exactly from the restaurant. He was upset because last time we ordered there was a hair in my beef and broccoli and they didnt want to honor our credit even though we were ordering over 80 dollars worth of food. They are liars and thiefs!!!Just ordered from elsewhere and no hair in the food for a much better price. I hope this place gets shut down soon
Ive only been once with kids so the fast and attentive service was really appreciated. The General Tso and cashew chicken was great. The ambiance and beef dish less so but OK. Well be back exploring other dishes and the kids will look forward to fortune cookies (even if not an authentic Chinese thing).
Pretty disappointed. Spent about 50 dollars for general tso, sesame chicken, and vegetable fried rice. However it tasted like mall cafe food, with less flavor. The chicken was soggy, not crispy at all, and the sauces had no flavor. I had selected my general tso to be spiced medium to hot, and couldnt taste anything. Very upsetting for how much I spent. I would recommend ordering from elsewhere
Food is consistently delicious, fresh, always hot, of great quality. I absolutely LOVE their egg drop soup and crab rangoons. I am amazed at their portions and the amount of meat or seafood they put in their dishes. You will not be disappointed. Additionally, the service is immaculate. LOVE this place!
I would like to start of by saying Ive tried their food twice and both times Ive tried multiple entrees and all of them just are off imo. They seem like friendly and nice people but for some reason their food is just awful imo. Presentation looks pretty normal and portion size is decent but theres always something off putting about the taste. Ive had the sweet and sour, sesame Chicken, and general tsos but they all just are awful. I prefer Canton China over this place. I really would not recommend this place. It might be that the fact that they use a lot of breading and I feel like the chicken has a lot of fat. The sauces are always not what I expect. Try Canton China because I think the quality is really good
Honestly, I read so many reviews and my advice is to ignore all the ones that say the food is spicy or too hot. I ordered both dishes medium hot and unfortunately on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being hot), I would give it a one. Such a bummer. Also, for the price, the portion size was decent, but it only came with a little white rice? For that price I would think everyone should of gotten and egg roll with it.The fried dumplings were good, but too pricey for how many you get.Anyways, nothing was bad, the General and sesame tasted good, not great though. And the dude on the phone, he sounded like he just woke and was none too friendly. Lol.—-Just read the response. I said the dumplings were good. I have no problem with the quality of food at all. My beef was more about the phone call, the quantity, and the spices not being hot enough. But thanks for replying. Peace. :)
Horrible... I have enjoyed the Mongolian Beef dish many times before.. today? it was disgusting, no flavor, too hot even thought I asked for mild, looks like the meat was old so they overcooked it to mask it. Just about the worst dish Ive had in my life, half way through I gave it to my dog, and he didnt want it either.. maybe the carry out is not as good as dine in, or they have changed their standards but this was atrocious!!!
My first ever experience here, even after living in Canton for some time, was a very positive one! I found the establishment to be clean and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Now lets, get to the important stuff: the food! I was quite impressed by the flavors and quality of the food here. I tried a few different things, and I have to say that they were all very good! Im going to recommend getting the General Tsous Chicken, which is a house specialty. It was fantastic!
It was my first time there. Pretty decent ambience . Although it was past 9 pm , the staff was pretty welcoming. Good tasty/ flavorful food accompanied by good staff leaves behind a good overall experience. Worth a visit for people who want to explore restaurant at Canton
Ive grown up eating here and it has never disappointed. It is very much a part of the culture of Canton. The food is outstanding and the service is always friendly. They also come up with unique dishes such as the Basil Chicken which is heaven disguised as food.Make sure to get hot oil with every dish, it is 🔥
I am not a local, so I just went with the 4.3 star rating on google. I have never had a 4+ star restaurant disappoint on this level. I ordered take out this afternoon. The general tso chicken is definitely the worst I have had, and I have had a lot of chinese food. Even though I had not eaten all day, I still could not swallow the first bite. Luckily, the house fried rice I got was edible. Definitely do not recommend
Had lunch today, requested they not to add sugar or MSG. I was told all their menu items have sugar and MSG. Their dishes are all pre-made with added sugar and MSG. Since this restaurants food is not freshly prepared or to-order .. I will not be returning. I do not recommend this Chinese restaurant. To the owner: In reply from the owner - they refute what I was told by their own waitress ...I can only tell you I was given no choice to prepare my food without added sugar and MSG. I have to stay with my statement that food is not cooked fresh or to order. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Everything Ive tried here is delicious. Love the rolls. Love the Generals chicken. Soups are always on point. Sometimes can be crowded, but for good reason. Whenever I work in that area, I swing by to get my fix. Staff have always been courteous and professional. I want to bring my family here, but theyre not as enthusiastic about great food as I.Great place.
I give it 2 star because the service was horrible. The waiter acted as if we had ruined his day by walking into the restaurant. It took them 15 minutes to bring us our water, he didnt ask us if we wanted to order any other drinks, it took another 20 min for him to come and take out food order. A couple who walked in 30 minutes after we arrived and had received their first. By the time we got our meal it was like warm.
Edit: addendum. Below is a review from a year ago this top portion is from 5/29/20.I still think this restaurant has great American style Chinese food and hope to occasionally return, however the prices before were high and now they are borderline silly. I am an over the road truck driver and am used to being robbed when eating out, so dont think Im some cheapo. If you think paying $15+ per is fair and can afford it, then my hats off to you. So from now on I will only be making this a special occasion dinner choice, ie. Birthday.Im from Texas and drive all over the US. So you can trust me when I say of all the options i have exhausted in the area this place is hands down the best americanized chinese food around. It may even be the best I have ever had. Iv only ordered a hand full of dishes but I have yet been disappointed in any of the experiences. Prices can be a bit high but then you see the portions and realize its fair. 1 full order is enough to feed 2 maybe 3. Side orders are to share as well. The food is awesome and always fresh, never over cooked or under cooked. If you find this place in distaste then theres something wrong with you, not the restaurant.
I have been coming to Szechaun for 25+ years, I grew up in Canton. I have lived over an hour away for 20 years now and we are still regulars. It is worth the hour drive, even if its just for carry out. It is, BY FAR the very best Chinese food Ive ever had in my entire life! Every dish is delicious and the food comes out so quickly. I cannot understand how anyone could leave a negative review about the food or the service, it literally baffles me. I only wish they would open up a second restaurant in my town, so I could eat there 4 times a week lol.Everything is good but we always get the Sesame Chicken, Pepper Steak and Hunan Chicken. Our familys favorites! Now to talk my husband into driving an hour to go get me some carry out. 😬
This place is awesome. We came here Christmas Eve and there is a little bit of a wait and although it was packed the manager on duty gave the best customer service I have ever seen. Gave people waiting cold beer on the house, water or pop passed out spring rolls and was extremely efficient at calling out waiting orders and moving people along. The food is amazing I just found my new favorite place to eat. Amazing service, amazing food, and they go above and beyond.
I was not impressed at all. The decor is old and dated - almost cliché. My dish was dirty and the table had rice under the glasstop. I sent back the beef strips because they had a weird aftertaste - maybe the frying oil needs replacing. The staff was ok. They quickly rectified the returned dish. I dont plan to come again.
Very disappointed in this restaurant. Went with the good reviews and ordered take out. I ordered 3 meals. My wife found a piece of broken glass in her meal!!! I took the dishes back, they didn’t apologize or give a reason why this happened. And they hesitantly gave the back the $14 the one dish was worth. Will never ever go back to this place, mistakes happen but the rude and unapologetic attitude are unacceptable.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. Not only was there red in my chicken (undercooked) but also two hairs in my food. I contacted them and asked for my money back from my order explaining how disgusted I was and they said they don’t give money back. I told them I have 99% of the food to show them I didn’t eat it they said they will not refund me. Don’t eat here very unprofessional and disgusting.
Tonight was my first time coming here and my experience was amazing. I got take out; which I almost regret not dining in because it was so clean and elegant inside. Anyways, they were VERY informative and patient with helping me order off the menu as soon as I asked what was vegan friendly (which is a BIG deal seeing how most other restaurant employees instantly roll their eyes and seem irritated to answer questions...as if thats not their job). They special made the lo mein for me and listed what was in every sauce. The food was AMAZING. This will be my go to place forever. Fantastic service, great food and clean atmosphere.
FINALLY!! An authentic Chinese Sit Down restaurant with an elegant style, quiet atmosphere and delicious food. They have been in business for over 35 years and I believe they will continue bringing the Canton area great service. Enjoy eating in the restaurant vs take-out. Service is quick and the decor is beautiful. YES, they have take-out too.
Im not exactly sure why this place gets such rave reviews. The few times Ive ordered food from here Ive been underwhelmed at best. My last order was General Tsous Chicken, which is normally my favorite Chinese dish. The chicken had a slimy coating and was not crispy, the sauce was a frightening red color, and overall had pretty much ZERO flavor. It was like eating slimy chicken covered in a flavorless, oddly-colored, syrup. The spring roll was also quite bland and unpalatable. I think it cost me almost $20 for my LUNCH, the portion was small for the price - and I ended up throwing most of it away because it didnt taste like anything.
The place Ive been searching for! Forget the others in the area, this one is the best Ive found. Even though it was crowded on a Friday evening, everything was super fast and really delicious.Everything was clean, service was friendly, and the quality of the food was better than some other places Ive been. Flavors were as they should be for Chinese cuisine, sometimes everything tastes like syrup but not here.I was really happy with the food and will keep coming back!
Wed rate this a two and a half if we were able. Basically its average. The food was OK but while the waitress was not rude she was not exactly friendly ether. She spent almost no time at are table and seemed to almost ignore us while having conversations with her other patrons. She at one point asked us a question and before we could even really answer she immediately left and started talking with another table.Plus like I said the food was good but not exactly amazing ether its just their customer service leaves something to be desired. All in all my family and I felt the visit was more negative then positive and we will most likely not be going back any time soon.
This place is very nice! The food portions that they serve are more than enough and the service is very good!! I definitely recommend the Hunan shrimp and crab rangoons. They are suitable for Americans and Asians! Overall, this is where you should go to have an enjoyable and satisfactory dinner!👍🏼
We went at dinner time and waited 10 minutes before our server even came to our table. When he got there he said Appreciate your patience. That was the last polite thing he said. His next words were Are you ready to order yet? Some other words were exchanged about fried rice, etc, and apparently I didnt order my spice properly because he was being impatient with me. I dont care if the food is good if the wait staff has to be so impatient and rude. We left. Didnt even try the food.
This is one my my husbands favorite places to get general tsos chicken!!! Their lunch menu is a great deal!!! You can choose whatever dish you would like....then that comes with soup...a spring roll or crab Rangoon...and white or fried rice!!! None of the dishes are over $9....great lunch spot if youre in the area
I had a very bad unprofessional experience at this restaurant, Im sure their food taste good but unfortunately I will never know. I ordered a standard dish, and only asked them to switch the sauce that they cook the dish in, I just preferred a different sauce.. I was told by the gentleman on the phone, no the cook will not do it... then I visited the restaurant to ask why, a woman who claimed to be the manager, gave me a long, odd, explanation. Because they receive sooo many orders, they dont have the courage to deviate from the menu at all, they are literally afraid they would mess up the order. Because of this odd Fear, they have a strict policy to never deviate from the menu... Ive never heard anything like this in my life, so unfortunately I will never eat there. Nor would I advise anyone else. Imagine due to a food allergy, or just your preference, you must ask them to deviate from the menu. According to the explanation given to me, they would not do so.
I’ve been a loyal customer here since I was 16 (14 years ago!). My absolutely favorite dish (consistently ordered for those past 14yrs) is the Tai-Chien Chicken. I moved away from michigan about 7 years ago and make it a point to stop by and have my favorite meal every time I come home.
Best lunch special around. For about $10 you get hot tea, a choice of soup, choice of spring roll or crab Rangoon, fried or white rice, and your entree. I usually always get the sasame chicken but sometimes I switch it up to the general tso. Best Chinese place around for sure. Service is always great. Water is never empty and never wait for anything. They also do deliveries and dont seem to kind driving a little ways. Never been unsatisfied here.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice very formal, the employees were nice we were shown to a table in a timely manner ( given the time of night it was not busy)But after ordering our food we had received only part of our order and then noticed that the waiter wasnt coming back we had to remind him that we were missing a dish and then wait even longer for him to bring that one.Doesnt look me and my family are going back to this restaurant
Was trying for first time, ordered szechuan chicken, chicken was ok moist but not crisp, but that could be from me waiting until i returned to work. The sauce tasted burnt and ended up throwing it away. The rice was good, nice mix of items in it. Spring roll was very good. Place was very clean . I did a lunch take out. Will not order that dish again.
Best Chinese place in Canton! Had the Michigan pothole ice cream as well very good. Only irritation was they cant put Chinese vegetables into a dish upon request. Really? Not even for an added charge I asked? Nope. So I paid for a side of them. Guess I can accomplish what they can not do lol. Maybe I should run the place ;-). I can accomplish the impossible in their eyes. Food was great though!
**Editing Initial Review. My wife and I have been coming here about once a week for the last 4 to 5 months. The food is ALWAYS amazing. I cant remember even 1 dish that we didnt enjoy. However, there is 1 server that we REALLY dont like. Asian gentleman, middle aged, thin with glasses. He comes off rude and pretty short. He will not hesitate to vacuum around you, count the tip bucket etc. He seems impatient when you are ordering and thats unfortunate. Im still giving 5 stars because EVERY other employee is pleasant and the food is simply the best weve had in the area. (Plymouth, Canton, Westland) The hosts are friendly and the service is exceptional. (Excluding the Server above) The Latino busser works HARD and seems to be there everytime we are. Back to the server... My wife and I shy away from awkward situations and dont typically like to complain. Weve decided to simply say we want a different server if he approaches our table. However, we dont want to hurt his feelings, so weve drawn back our frequency of being there or just switched to carryout. IMO, he represents the place poorly. It seems obvious to me by simply observing him with other guests, that we are not alone in our dislike. This should be corrected. Im not sure if most patrons would keep coming after dealing with him.------> Original review...Great experience both times. Their food is amazing!
Always a great place for Szechuan. My favorite dish is the cold noodle appetizer, a must if you enjoy peanut sauce. Be sure to give it a good stir before you dig in. I just had the moo shu chicken and found it better than the moo shu pork I have at my neighborhood place.
This has been our go to place for Chinese food since 2008. Weve seen it gone through menu changes, slight price increases, and adding wine decor, but its always been delicious, whether dining in/out, or going for lunch/dinner. Favorite dishes are almond chicken (traditional style), Kung pao chicken, orange chicken, shrimp with mixed vegetables (white sauce), and shrimp with mustard sauce.Service and ambiance: Many of the service staff have been there for over a decade. They always wear a dress white shirt and tie, but the place can be dressy or dress casual. The service is lightning fast and usually good with refills. The place is filled with Chinese decor with dark red/gold accents, which seems well maintained. The fish in the fish tank are cool, but the tank always seems to be dirty.Discounts: In the past they offered bonus gift cards if you purchased other gift cards or calendars with monthly coupons inside (usually around the holidays).
Went there for the first time, because the Chinese Food near me are closed. Talking about ridiculous prices and poor tasting food. The Chinese food places in oak park and southfield Michigan, put this place to shame.! Let alone they charged me damn near 50 dollars for 3 items. Never going back. They should be ashamed! 3 stars for the fried rice only
I want to give 5 stars and 1 star at the same time, because Ive had both ends of the spectrum in the same visit:The hot+sour soup tasted like it was going rancid, but then again, the sesame chicken was downright heavenly!Out of a party of 20, everyone else had great food all around; so I expect that the soup thing was probably a fluke, but I still cant bring myself to get it again. >_
Five star every single time we have been here. Used to come 2010. Moved away and came back. Eaten here three times in the past month carry out. We like it for vegetarian options. The whole family loves it including the grandparents and in laws. In fact, the sister in laws, in laws who live in Rochester Hills even talk about this place. We get the lettuce wraps, Kung pao tofu, vegetable lo mein and fried rice. In the past we have loved the general tsaos chicken as well. Great location. Fast service. Nice aquarium in the lobby. Not a single thing to complain about. See you guys next week and the week after that probably.
We were new to the area and gave this place a try. Its now one of our favorite Chinese restaurants. Service is great; decor and restaurant experience is elegant & defineitly unlike any other tacky, cliche, small Chinese restaurant. The food is excellent! Definitely a place well be back to.
Ive never had better Chinese food from anywhere else in the country, and I like to make it a point to try food wherever I go. Ive been coming to Szechaun since around 1999-2000ish, and its still the best quality that your dollar can buy. I bring people here and recommend this place to everyone I know considering Chinese food, and no one has ever come back to me to tell me they didnt absolutely love their meal. I can and will recommend this restaurant and definitely recommend dining in here at least once if you have the time. The amazing decorations and classical music playing truly make you feel relaxed and give you an enjoyable sense of satisfaction no matter the occasion youre here for.
Standard looking nice white table clothed place.Seated quickly.Ordered Kung Pao Chicken (added fresh mushrooms) with Fried Rice, Medium Hot with Spring Roll and Wonton Soup.Soup delivered quickly.Meal came out in about 7 minutes.Way too many peanuts and the sauce did have a slight burnt taste to it as mentioned in many prior reviews. Chicken didnt have much flavor to it. Rice was a little mushy too.Very pleasant and timely staff always reacting to new or departing customers.Overall ok for $9.82 lunch ($1.06 charge for the mushrooms) plus $2 tip but will not be returning or at least on a regular basis.
Ordered Sesame Chicken. It was spicy and I couldnt eat it. The eggrolls had a seaweed strip on it, and the springrolls were plain. So that was confusing, and people ate the wrong rolls. One order wanted fried rice instead of steamed, but we quickly changed our minds when we were told that would be an extra $7 on an already $80+ order. Wont order from here again
Been coming here since 1990. 26 years! It was the best, but I dont know what happened over the years. I used to get scallops in ginger garlic sauce, but moved away and ordered it last year or so and the scallops are now small, mushrooms are cut into tasteless ribbons and the sauce was nonexistent. One of my all time favorite dishes and now I will never order again. Also, another favorite kung pow beef had to be sent back twice as it was literally raw. This never happened in the nineties. I dont know if theres new management or new owners, but it isnt five stars anymore.
Worth a 5 hour drive to get Szechuan! If you havent had Szechuan then you dont know what you are missing. In that case, dont ever eat here unless you want to ruin all your other Chinese restaurant favorites forever. I have eaten at this restaurant for 30 years and it is still just as good as it ever was. I live in Indy now but I always have to stop to get the General Tsos and Beef & Broccoli when I am in town. As with most places, some things are better than others, but the best of Szechuan will outshine anything you can get elsewhere.
Dont know much about the previous remarks for Szechuan Restaurant... this is by far not the authentic chinese food if you ever had decent Szechuan style dishes. Absolutely over spiced with inferior cooking skills. Lacks any defined taste of any damn decent dish from mainland. If you like you Chain food restaurants then this is for you.

2022-01-17I think Covid took a bit of a toll on the place. Super easy carry out and good service. Same menu but the food Ive had lately has less meat/seafood and has gotten kind of salty. Change in cook staff? Very fast. Generous portions. Special fried rice is still great. Always friendly.

2022-04-19When I am visiting my mother. I love to go here and get the Orange chicken. I enjoy my food spicy so I get it full strength. I also really love the chicken fried rice. They add a good amount of bean sprouts and green onion. Great food and people.

2022-02-05We had a birthday dinner with almost 20 people tonight and our waiter was amazing. The food was great and so quick for such a large party. More people showed up that we thought and they even accommodated that. Great service, we appreciate you guys and will be back!

2022-03-06Great food and the service was above and beyond. My kids even love the food here! My nephew is 13 and I’ve never seen him eat broccoli until now. The place was clean and the bathrooms were really nice and looked new. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

2021-10-24I think I am in love with this place. So many different dishes. They can do everything: chicken, pork, beef, duck, shrimps. Excellent rise. Cool Sake in a hot pot. The service is impeccable.

2022-05-03Just ordered lunch from here today. The rice was wet and overcooked….. ewwwww…Almond chicken was dry. Presentation looks good and the spring roll was good.I ate as much as I could (because I was hungry) and trashed the rest. Definitely wouldn’t come back.

2022-06-19My first and last carryout lunch meals were absolutely horrible. Lumpy greasy gravy for the almond boneless chicken gravy. The almond boneless chicken was like chewing a leather strap. No taste or beef within the beef and broccoli dish? Spring rolls completely greasy. Fried rice mixed with gummy white rice. What a $40.00 disappointment! Dont complain, no refunds for your hard earned money nor is the manager or owner available to talk.

2022-05-10Finally got to sit down and eat instead of doing carry out. Absolutely love this place. Full of flavor. I had the General Tsao dinner. Could actually have both some of the heat and flavor mixed. Also had Lyche Sake with my dinner. If you use chop sticks, they do have them upon request. If you havent had the Shrimp Toast, this is an absolute must, skip the crab ragoons for this. You wont leave here disappointed for quality and authenticity for oriental food.

2022-03-04As a long time customer I am very disappointed with my recent experience. The meals were not good. We ordered several items and my meal was not even edible and my husbands was very bland. I ordered fried rice woth tofu and the tofu was spoiled so I called the restaurant and spoke to a man about it. He wasnt apologetic but said he would talk to someone and get back with me but failed to do so.
