To me, five-star Thai cuisine shines in both its vibrant flavor profiles and plate presentations. Thai basil delivers acceptably on taste, but its ho-hum platters of basics bring down the rating a bit. Granted, our group ordered a fried food fest for appetizers: Crab Rangoon, crunchy spring rolls, and firecracker sushi. Still, its all brown paper bag packaging. Sigh. My seafood salad was a bit of a letdown, too: A handful of plump, medium sea scallops schooling with a duo of poached shrimp and an unravelling smattering of Krab. Dumped on a bed of iceberg, and scented with a sprig or two of cilantro and blackened, chopped basil, I ate it with the same enthusiasm I have for grocery store grab-n-go. Sweethearts chicken watchamacallit came drowned in what could have passed for red enchilada sauce. Maybe well roll the considerable leftovers in corn tortillas tonight and give it a second chance. Meh. Thai Basil gets three stars for perky, pleasant service and a menu thats enough to fill a famished Thai lovers wish list, but its fairly listless in its execution.
Great place for Thai food and exceptional Curry fried rice. Bangkok noodles are also a good option if you like yellow curry. Soup they serve for lunch special isnt that great, sometimes its not hot. Portions are good and you have to be really hungry to finish it. Recently they’ve reduced portions, I guess they read my review. All in all a very clean place and friendly staff.
Great food and great service. Menu has a wide variety of Thai foods. They offer lunch specials Monday through Friday. Portion sizes are nice. Curry was lovely. Everyone enjoyed their choice. The hot & sour soup was not the best we’ve had. Main meals were all fab. Spring rolls were good.
Best thai food in Lionia, Northville and Novi area... I have been here for multiple team lunches and few times during dinner time. I love their Bangkok noodles, pad thai, basil fried rice.. must try if in this area. Very friendly service and atmosphere...location is also very convenient with lots of parking spaces.
Super disappointed. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls. Expected shrimp, green onion, cabbage, etc.. like what u would get in a spring roll. I received a slice of shrimp rolled in a wonton wrapper and deep fried... I spent 13.00 on that. What a joke. The dipping sauce was good tho.
Was in the area for work and looking for some good Thai food close to the hotel, and I definitely found it! Green curry with mixed, Tom Yum with pork and shrimp rolls were really good. Asked for the food hot and it was really spicy, actually broke into a sweat! Stop in if you have a chance and are craving some really good Thai food.
Made a pickup order at Livonia for Pineapple Curry with Tofu. When I got back home, and opened up my order it had chicken instead of Tofu. Me being not eating meat, had no other choice to throw that away. The receipt also reads Tofu(which I ordered), but on opening up the box it had meat(chicken) in it. That’s very unacceptable from a reputed food chain of yours. Not returning to this restaurant any more!
I placed an big order to take it to my family (Diwali) celebration in Troy,MI. I have ordered Pad Thai, Fried rice (Vegetarian, No Eggs) and Vegetarian Red Curry. While placing an order I mention staff member 4 times that no eggs, no meat and pure vegetarian. After arriving home we discovered that they messed up my order. 3 vegetable fired rice and 2 vegetable pad thai has eggs. I called them and they are telling me to drive back with food 45 mile back with COVID-19 situations to bring back food for replacement or 20% off after today when order placed.I highly recommend NOT to order from that place if you are vegetarian. Very poor customer service.
Good but very I consistent. I do like the food, and have a favorite dish which I order 8% of the time. It’s always good but the level of spiciness (I order medium) varies an unbelievable amount. Sometimes literally no spice, other times melt your face off. I’ve heard others make this same complaint. We’ve been regulars for about 2 years. Although recently started looking for a replacement due to this issue. Maybe a bit petty on our part, but why ask if you’re not going to make it as requested?
Amazing Thai food and sushi! This is my wifes favorite restaurant. we get it almost weekly. The tradition Pad Thai is excellent and you can ask for any of the dishes to be mild or spicy depending on what you like. I love the drunken noodles also. The sushi rolls are also great. The staff is quick, polite, and nice.
Ambience - 3 out of 5....interior is nice but the restaurant semelled bad for some reasonFood - 2 out of 5...we had Tom yum soup, steamed chicken dumplings, drunken noodles and basil fried rice...everything tasted below par...especially drunken noodles.....Service - 2 out of 5...just came for the orders and at the end for the check....did not even bother to ask how the food is...We visited the place after seeing the overall ratings and the no of people rated it...but unfortunately we did not like anything about it...
I was in the area for a business meeting And decided to stop in For dinner. The food was great and very clean and attractive atmosphere. I had red curry with and a friend had pad Thai noodles. Both were well done and plenty 4. The service was quick and timely we were able to get in have a great dinner, with great conversation in back out with then an hour. Prices were reasonable and parking was plentiful. I will go back again. I hear the lunch buffet is wonderful.
Our first dine in and was delicious! The service went above and beyond the call of duty. The cook promptly remade my order due to it being a bit to spicy for my taste buds. Waitress (emma?) Was outstanding! Restaurant was set nicely and clean. Bathrooms were clean. Steady flow of traffic even after 8 pm. We will return!
Been coming to this location for many years and referred a ton of people as I was referred myself. Loved the food and staff so much that I drove from Southfield to get it almost frequently. Sadly, something has recently changed for the worse. I cannot patronize a restaurant that allows their employees to make careless mistakes that hurt their customer and then stand by as the employee and manager mistreat the customer. I guess my friends and I will have to find another thai spot. Go there if you want, just dont say you havent been warned.
Food was pretty good. My husband and I ordered a few different types of sushi and they were all super fresh and tasty. Service was mediocre, but everyone seemed very nice. I ordered a coca cola and it was extremely flat. There were a few of little gnats flying around, which Im sure wasnt an indicator of cleanliness or anything, but annoying none the less.
Today was a little disappointing and I could have called and went back to get what they forgot but once your home doesn’t seem worth it. I ordered spring rolls and Sushi with my meal. Sushi was warm, so not very appealing and sauce for spring rolls was missing. I guess next time I’ll check order before leaving restaurant. Thai was excellent though.
Great Thai food!I wouldnt try the sushi as my date was using mens room at the same time as the Sushi chef; he said the he didnt wash his hands after handling his bussiness.I also sent my 1st drink, (volcano, pictured) back as the pineapple juice in it was bad.Service was great though!!
Repeat visit, so we knew what we were going to get but I dont remember the wanton soup being quite this tasty.Basil fried rice with chicken was just the right portion and just the right level of heat (split this with my daughter, I normally get extra spicy but they nailed it for her). Presentation was decent. This is our primary location, although weve visited the Plymouth location once.
The restaurant was nice and clean and roomy, The service was ok. After being sat I notified the hostess that I would I make a quick trip to the restroom. After I got back I had to wait over 5 minutes for my server. After my appetizer was brought, I didnt see my server again until 10 minutes after I had finished it. The food was pretty ordinary. I ordered avocado roll for an appetizer and it was just decent, not too flavorful. I followed that up with clear noodle soup with chicken. It was very bland. I added salt and soy sauce more than once to give it some flavor and it just didnt work. My main course was chicken Pad Thai and I have to admit it was quite good. I may return the next time Im in town but I wont go out of my way to come here.
The staff was very friendly and always on top of everything. I ordered Chicken Satay to share with my significant other, it was exquisite. For dinner I ordered the Seafood Fried Rice, and was blown away. Each bite was like a dance of sweet and spice across my tongue, like a ballet of flavors in my mouth. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and family. Ill definitely go again, especially after seeing that they have 50% off sushi on Mondays.
Easily the best Thai restaurant Ive been to. Big selection of delicious food at a good price. About $13 after tip. The quality is great and the service is very fast, and everything is made to order. Good sushi selection and a bar also. I frequent this place and highly recommend it.
Ordered takeout from here on Tuesday night. Upon opening my vegetable curry I noticed a bug, then another bug, and another. I picked out over 10 bugs from my curry. I used to frequent this restaurant often, NEVER again. I called and spoke with the manager in regards to this and the situation was dealt with poorly. She refused to refund me because I threw my bug filled food in the trash, and she insisted I bring the food back to the restaurant in order to get a refund. If I were the manager I definitely would not want the negative attention brought to my restaurant. Dine with caution.
My all-time favorite restaurant. Great ambiance and best quality Thai food around. Its never busy when I go there, always nice and quiet and no wait time. Perfect spot for a date night or dinner with the family. Best dishes Ive had here: tempura sushi rolls, Tom Yum soup, pineapple curry, and Pad Thai. I recommend trying all of these. Seriously, their tempura sushi rolls are to die for. 5 stars. :D
First time here, looked at the reviews and they seemed positive. I would of enjoyed this more if my food wasnt being swarmed with fruit flies. The waitress did tell me the exterminator came out last week to spray. well they may have missed a nest or two. I was able to get a few bites of my food before the bugs landed on my plate. the food seemed decent. I will not be coming back here.
Let me first say, excellent food, and great vegan options! I ordered the tofu, spring rolls, and hot and sour soup, and everything was so yummy! My only complaint was the unnecessary waste. I brought my own metal straw, but a plastic one was given to me before I could say no thank you. A simple change: have waiters ask customers if theyd like a straw. This will cut waste and some cost!
My boyfriend & I went for lunch. We both ordered the lunch portions, & had leftovers. The food was delicious! He ordered the medium pad Thai, & I had the mild curry fried rice. The mild was a little under-spicy, but the medium was spot on.... also had a deep fried cali roll... also delicious. Well definitely be going back for more!
My daughter and I had dinner here last Friday evening. The service was wonderful, very fast with the our drinks which were correctly mixed. The food was too salty for our taste but the flavor was delicious. Our waitress was very attentive. I had tofu added my meal which appeared to be breaded, not the silken tofu although this was not horrible. The reason I gave only two stars was because of the fruit flies that are inhabiting this place. I cannot imagine what the kitchen looks like with all the fruit flies flying and landing on food. There must be spilled, splashed and dried food on the floors and counters/walls of the kitchen in order to attract the fruit flies who love moist, spoiled/rotten food. Its very unfortunate and so easily fixed. We will not be going back. I will try their Novi location though as I hear the two best chefs were moved to this restaurant.
Decent food, but poor service. Host didnt smile when we came in. Brought us to a table without silverware - we had to take it ourselves from another table. Took a while before a waiter came and brought us water. Never checked on how we were doing. Appetizers came out fairly quickly and the crab rangoon & spring rolls were delicious. But the California roll isnt made with avocado - just cucumber. So its not really a California roll. Then my entree (drunken noodles) came out 5-7 minutes before my companions (pad thai). We didnt get a refill on our waters until we were asking for boxes to go. Plus, our booth had old food stuck to the wall and there was a gnat flying around - gross.
I ordered to-go and specifically told them about allergies that I have. They still added products which they were asked not to and I suffered due to it. After telling them that they were absolutely non apologetic about it. Will never come again. Would recommend to stay away from this restaurant if you have food allergies.
Great food, great service. Pad Thai Curry is delicious. Seafood option has imitation crab. Tofu option is breaded and fried triangles, instead of naked, silken cubes. Edamame is high quality. Thai iced tea has too much sugar, and tea leaf residue; I should have gotten a to-go cup to enjoy it later.
Very friendly staff, and I have yet to have a bad meal after about 20 visits. The seafood Pad Thai is one of my favorites, though anything here with glass noodles is interesting and tasty. The squid is a bit bland, so keep that in mind when ordering, but everything else is flavorful.
My wife and I love this place. We ate Thai food in almost 25 states, but this restaurant is by far the best one. This place has never given us any chance not to like it. Now if we go to any other Thai restaurant, we tend to compare it to Thai Basil and at the end decides that we are never going to eat at any other Thai restaurant besides Thai Basil. Thank you guys for making such an amazing food. Love it.
Every menu item I have tried has always been delicious! As an experienced waitress, I have noticed that sometimes the service is a little slow here, but I have only experienced this when the restaurant has been very busy, so I wouldnt hold that against them. The Pad Woon Sen is by far my favorite dish, give it a try!
Good food, but expect it to be spicy, especially if you order curry. I generally enjoy quite spicy food, but stick with ordering my curry mild, or sometimes even no spice. Noodles, on the other hand, I can order medium. Lean proteins, fresh veggies, but on the pricier side. Thai Basil also has cocktails, wine, and beer, including beers from Thiland.
We had shrimp pad Thai and green curry with Tom Yom soup. All the food tasted so so, kind of disappointed on the soup, it doesn’t even have lemongrass flavor as it should. Overall I think it’s overpriced as well, we paid $40 for these three item and got very so so experience. I would prefer to go to Bangkok Sala Cafe at 12mile&Orchard lake, it’s like half cheaper and taste better.
Ive eaten here several times and have ordered the seafood fried rice. Tonight I ordered the same item V Mild to no Chili paste first it took 30 mins to receive and it came with no crabmeat, vegetables were raw, it was extremely spicey. The server immediately apologized and acknowledged almost as though she was aware of the error. She said they had three complaints today on this dish as too spicy. She took the food back and returned 15 mins later and said her manager took $1.00 off the bill for the long wait and error. I explained I would like to eat and have them prepare the meal correctly, as I was hungry. The manager later came by with arrogance and asked what was the problem...no problem I wont return!! Were all human and make mistakes but acknowledge it as your server did and make it right dont get arrogant about it.
Hit or miss. Its really changed in the past few years. The tofu is the best. If that changes, well never go back. Try the Fried Tofu appetizer. Its incredible.**Update** Ive called and tried to get carry out on a few occasions and they tell me theyre closed at 8:30-9. Theyre supposed to be open until 10.Considering the reviews about the flys buzzing around while youre eating and my friend a few months ago had a fly in her sushi, were done. Never going back. I dont care how good the tofu is, never ordering out or eating in here again.
I had dinner with my family there & I noticed that the place has tiny flies in the air. As soon as the food showed up, the flies started landing in our food. The waitress saw me waiving the flies away & didnt say anything. Then the check showed up with the soup marked up from $10.95 to $14.95 & we had two of them. I questioned the waitress & she said I ordered the mixed seafood. Im absolutely sure I pointed out to her the $10.95 one. By the way, she brought me the check with 20% tip already charged to my card.If I didnt have my family, I would have challenged the charges. Never again!!
Horrible service. When in with a group of 12 people. We did not have our drinks refilled once. No one checked up on our food. We waited 45 minutes for our check to come and no one came to us we had to walk up to a random waitress on the other side of us. They were automatically getting the gratuity due to the huge party and didnt bother to do more han bring us out the food and the first cup of drinks when sitting down at the table. Embarrassment I had people from California in town and this is how they treated us.
Thai Basil (Livonia location) is our go to place when we are hungry for Thai food whether eat-in or takeout. Tonight our group of four ate in. We enjoy the quiet, relaxed atmosphere and what we consider a pretty authentic Thai menu. Tables are set with blue cloth napkins, water glasses, silverware and carafes of water. We started our meal with a glass of wine but passed on appetizers and soup. Our selections included Pad Thai chicken, Pad Thai beef, Drunken Noodles and Pad Cashew. All were ordered mild but the Pad Cashew chili sause was still quite spicy. Seafood and salads are on the menu as well as vegetarian versions of most entres. Portions were generous with leftovers to take home. Desert menu is limited but we enjoyed after dinner tea. A nice place to enjoy out with friends.
We used to go to this place often even though my wife never liked it that much. I was getting the drunken noodles every time. well 3 days ago we got 3 carry out orders if drunken noodles and they were very overcooked.... the shrimp, the noodles, the vegetables, everything. the sauce was super salty as well and between us, we finished a gallon of water. very disappointed. very.
The king of Thai restaurants, at least for me. The little old lady who run this place once told me, I like you because you order it the real way when I told her to make it as spicy as they can. The food is amazing, the staff is friendly and fun, and the prices are reasonable.
I really like this place & go everytime when k crave thai food. Great taste & quick service.Staff is always smiling & quite hospitable. I lovee Basil fried Rice & veg spring roles. I tried their pad thai noodles & like always i was not disappointed with taste. I loved it. I would surely recommed this place if you are looking for good thai options in the area.
My wife and I have been coming to Thai basil for over 4 years. We frequent the Novi location and recently have been frequenting the Livonia location as we live in the area. We have never had one good experience at the Livonia location. Today, the sushi took over 15 minutes to come out and was extremely poorly made. The rice fell apart from the sushi and it was covered in sauce, I couldn’t even eat it with a fork because of how it fell apart, leaving me with hands full of sauce. Not only that, my wife ordered a California roll, which she gets every singe time at the Novi location. The California roll here in Livonia only had imitation crab and cucumber in it. When confronted on the lack of avocado, our waitress and a second waitress, reported that a California roll does not have avacdo included and if you want to add it to the roll, you must pay an additional dollar. We called the novi location and they reported that a California roll consist of avacado, cucumber, and artificial crab...without additional charge. The waitress brought out my main course and took a full 10+ minutes to bring out my wife’s main course, as she served other tables and took care of takeout orders (and avoiding our refills until we asked for them).Furthermore, today, and every time we come, there is a table that has younger employees sitting at it with their friends. These employees and their friends talk loudly. They are in the back of the room and I can hear them at the front table of the restaurant each time. This is a poorly run establishment. You have lost a customer and I will be sure to pass on my experiences with your company.
I did a Grubhub order with them, unfortunately Grubhub does not let you leave notes for food modifications. So, I called Thai Basil and said I have an order coming in and I basically need a Las Vegas roll. I was told to order the smoked salmon roll and that they would add the jalapeño, cream cheese and tempura. Get this they even called me back to make sure that’s what I wanted! Yet, when I got my order all I got was salmon, rice and sea weed. I called Thai basil to let them know and I was rudely told to dig the sushi out the trash and bring it up there to get my money back. I told him that’s the reason I used Grubhub, I don’t have my car.
Dropping from 4 to 3 stars. Came in for lunch. sat at a table and did not get served. ordered take out instead. Was told 10 min. Its been 25 and still waiting. They need more staff Good food and polite service. I have only done carry out here but inside looks nice and clean
My coworkers and I place an order of over $80 dollars this past weekend, not only was almost every item ordered incorrect we were also missing an entire entree. Called to inquire about the issue only to be informed by management that there was nothing they were willing to do and essentially called me a liar. We wont be back.
I am giving this one star because of my waitress. Her name was Judy she is the blonde white female. Upon coming in our family said we have 6 people coming. After about 3 minutes we said oh sorry actually we have 7 people coming. So she turned to another co-worker and in such a rude sarcastic way said oh apparently they have 7 now. I overlooked it. What ticked me off was after our meal she was passing out table and before we could say anything she said extremely rudly that Im busy!. As we watched her for 35 minutes helping every other person we noticed she was discriminating on us because we are Indian. We came to this conclusion because after we tried getting her help she was helping other white people and giving us the cold shoulder and avodon eye contact with us the whole time. I am very disappointed that she displayed discriminatory, prejudice, and racial behavior especially since we were nothing but polite and still despite everything tipped well.
Been here a couple of times in the short 3 weeks I have been in Livonia. I have had the vegetable curry, and I am the duck pineapple curry (like a duck choo chee) both were good for my taste the sauce could use more coconut milk and be thicker but thats just me. Would be back again if I make it back to town.
Worst place ever. Very very rude and dumb. Sat there for 45 minutes. Waited another 15 for my money to go back on the card . Couldnt prove that it was good. And then told me he wasnt helping me bc i was upset when i waited 1. 25 hrs for 1 single pad thia. The same guy who I watched sit on his phone and laugh at stuff for over 40 minutes with his buddy. 5 people were backed up on take out. All of them very very upset . People dining in also upset and this guy is just standing there doing nothing. Punk he was for sure. Just a young punk.
Food is good but the service is worst. , the waitress attitude was AWFUL and HORRIBLE!!! the waitress i got Gave us BAD SERVICE!!! We were a group of ten people, eight of us got the food and two did not, it took them almost 40 minutes to get the other two meals, reason was the waitress got busy with other table. After complaining the manager Nuch replaced our waitress to Opal. She was good. i will never come back to this place!!
The food is ok in my opinion the place is clean and inviting the service needs work very pushy for you to order and for you to leave my wife was finished with her dinner but I was still eating and the waitress reached over my plate and started taking my silverware and food

2021-11-12This place has gone down hill big time. I used to be a frequent visitor years ago and since I moved away I come here once in a while when I am in town on a business trip, and sadly every times I come here it gets worse. The curry dishes are ok, but I regretfully ordered the pineapple curry and the pineapple chunks were from cans, and not even from a fresh batch. The pineapple is so old, soggy and has the terrible can taste. It didn’t really affect the taste of the dish so I just picked them out. Thailand produces some of the best pineapple in the world, getting old can pineapple in my Thai curry is just not right. The drunken noodle was ok, basic sugar and soy combo and little heavy on the sugar side. The fried rice and other stir fried dishes are not like what they were years ago in both quality and taste.I also made the mistake of ordering sushi. I have never tried the sushi here but I normally don’t order sushi from a Thai place, nor a Chinese place but maybe a Korean place and there are reasons for that. The sushi rice was not right, bland, too wet. Any trained sushi chef should know that sushi rice has to be cooked with vinegar. Anyway avoid the sushi if you actually care for the taste. I think this is the last time I will ever order from here again.

2021-07-14The food is excellent. I ordered the Tofu Pineapple Rice and a Quart of Hot & Soul Soup. This was enough food to share with my husband. This was the first time I had a Hot & Sour Soup taste somewhat sweet!!? It was excellent! The rice dish was very good too!I walked in to pick up my order and still saw that no one is dining inside yet, (at least there so far).Normally I get real bloated with Asian Food, but this time I did not! The price was a little on the high side, but compared to other Restaurants with the same type of food, it was basically around the same price. Overall experience - 5 stars.

2022-02-10Great as always. Love their food and have visited often always coming back for Thai. I have had their Pad Thai, Curry dishes, King chicken dinner, etc. House peanut sauce is amazing so get Chicken Satay as well. Love their food. FYI medium spice is hot elsewhere, yet I do not mind due to liking spicy food. They serve sushi as well, have never tried it yet but other people in my party last week raved about it. Full bar, bottled beer and wine are a plus as well.

2021-04-16Excellent place, amazing food with a lot of flavor, good service. We ordered coconut soup I don’t remember very well the name but it was with coconut milk and searching looks similar to Tom yum. Pad Thai no spicy and yellow curry medium spicy. Next time no spicy the curry because my husband couldn’t finish it.

2022-04-23We placed a $110 take out order. There was some confusion on one of the items when we got there. They assured everything was good. After we drove back 25 minutes it turned out it wasnt in there. We called and asked for a refund. They said if we wanted a refund on the one item they wanted us to drive the entire order back and return it since they dont do partial refunds. Were talking about a $4 item they forgot. Otherwise they wanted me to drive 40 minutes round trip for it.I declined and said Id just dispute it.As far as the food goes. It was average at best. The spicy rolls had no spice. The wasabi appeared to be fake. Ill not be ordering from them again.

2022-07-07Im done with this place. Way too inconsistent. When its good its great, which is why Ive kept trying and Im also addicted to their shrimp rolls. But when its not good, its virtually inedible and the other day was another example. I usually get the Pad Thai and Id switched to shrimp because the chicken was bad a couple of times. But I tried it with chicken again the other day and it was awful. HOW HARD IS IT TO KEEP AND USE FRESH CHICKEN THAT DOES NOT TASTE LIKE ITS 2 WEEKS OLD? Well apparently its impossible for the folks at Thai Basil - Livonia. If you eat there steer clear of the chicken, but that was 1 time too many and theyve lost a customer.

2020-09-20The food was so good. I drove 30 minutes to try this place after reading some of the reviewsI’m so happy to find a good thai food nearby. The waitress was very friendly and nice. Definitely recommend it

2022-07-18Really liked their Tom Yum Soup. They made it delightfully spicy. Also got the drunken noodles which were pretty good too. Would recommend this place
