For all your string instruments, Detroit Violin Company is your one stop go to place. The staff is helpful, and friendly. They are also super supportive of youth music education. Whether you are a first year beginner or a seasoned pro, you will find this place to be exciting.
Initially my daughter did not want to play any instrument; Brice has been her ONLY cello instructor for 2 years! He is the BEST according to her, he is a GREAT and challenging instructor, not pushy but effective. As a parent, I am pleased with Brices interaction with me, he communicates what is necessary and pertinent in a timely and courteous manner. He is Student Oriented, so I do not take up the lesson time. Your student will learn how to read the music, play the music, care for the cello and how to handle the cello. He teaches grade school up to adults, so sign up with Brice, he has a very professional but relaxed demeanor. My daughter would not be bothered with the cello, if it were not for Brices approach and I appreciate that because it makes it all worth it!
I rent my son’s cello from DVC. They are extremely helpful whenever we take it in to be serviced. Everyone is courteous and friendly. My son takes cello lessons with Brice Madden. They were a great fit, right from the beginning. My son agreed to continue taking lessons thru the summer, because he really likes Brice.I highly recommend DVC and Brice Madden.
Very helpful, a fine selection of instruments, educated individuals who will do whatever they can to give you the best experience. They fixed up a violin I had since highschool, made a new bridge for it and gave me some new strings, reset a sound post for cheap. Ill keep coming back for sure.
No Wonder They Stay Open!! Amazing Service and they do it with a smile. Tonight we met Harrison and Laura and they did nothing but smile and service while they made my daughter and her viola shine. Its the third time weve been in and its always been a feel good experience. Id rent or buy from here all day long. A1 operation. Good work DVC.Update - several months later I feel exactly the same. This place is a standard by which others should look to conduct a business.

2022-03-12Each time I have been here, the service has been great! I have purchased a violin and a viola from them, and each time they were very helpful and encouraged me to try every instrument in my price range. I felt like I got value for my money each time. I also want to throw in that when I bought my second instrument, I showed up after doing my house cleaning, wearing old clothes: not my best appearance. At no point did they seem to be pretentious or question my ability to afford an instrument worth a couple grand before accessories. I really think they are just good people.

2021-06-10Ive been to this store 3 times and every time they have exceeded my expectations. My gift-violin sounds like a soloists instrument now. They repaired my viola when A&R music said I should just buy a new one from them. And now theyve set my cello bridge and changed the strings for free. Best Luthier this side of the state, I can PROMISE you that.

2020-03-09The sales, instructional and repair staff here are helpful, skillful, professional and courteous. We have been happy with all of our experiences with DVC over the past 4 years. Brice Madden is an excellent and dedicated teacher. He has helped our daughter make great progress in her technique and has increased her confidence on the cello. She really enjoys her weekly lessons. Highly recommended!

2020-02-15The staff at Detroit Violin Company is wonderful. We went in on a whim because my at-the-time fourth grader needed a couple of things for the cello we had just gotten. They asked him questions along with us to make him feel part of the conversation. They got us out with the things we needed and a few recommendations we requested pretty quickly without making us feel rushed.Shortly after, my son started taking lessons with Brice Madden and has been working with him ever since. He loves working with Mr. Madden. He has built so much confidence in his playing and music reading skills. My son says he likes how Mr. Madden teaches him different ways to play things.

2018-02-13This place is outstanding, especially for those new to this kind of music. They do an excellent job matching up students with teachers. Their rental program might be a bit pricey, but they do a great job of taking care of the instruments and making sure students have the right size instrument. There are 4 or 5 small rooms for individual training. Dont know exactly how many instructors there are, but several to choose from and most days of the week they have someone teaching individual lessons. Reasonable prices on the lessons too. They do instrument repair for violins and other, similar bow instruments. We are on our second year working with them and have been very pleased. Parking out front can be a pain. There is, however, plenty of parking behind the building.

2018-09-29Great place to buy a violin. Super helpful, knowledgable and patient staff. Quality products at a fair price. Worth the drive across town! I wish I knew them earlier, when we first started violin, but am thankful we found them when it really mattered (for our violin purchase). They had a great selection and we found the one.

2020-07-25I’m grateful to have small music shops like DVC around. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a wonderful space for private lessons and a solid network of teachers (shoutout to Brice). Highly recommend.

2019-10-21I came in with a custom built guitar that needed work on the pickups and with a neck glued on incorrectly. Tom was able to fix everything in a short time period and for a cost that was a fraction of what other companies were telling me. Best of all, he was enthusiastic and more than willing to take on the project. His passion is evident and it shows in the work that he was able to do to my guitar. Thank you so much! I seriously cant recommend this place enough for anyone. Go here.

2019-06-20Seems like a good place based on our initial experience. 9 year old just had first lesson and the staff was knowledgeable and caring. The tech at the counter explained the rent to own program details and our instructor was informative and patient.

2018-04-03Very helpful and friendly staff. As a new violin student, Ive had several questions and theyve helped with them all! Decent prices to rent instruments, and 4 (I think?) rooms to rent for lessons and practice.
