If youre looking for a special dining experience, this is it!From the exterior setting to the organic modern decor, very simple yet warm and inviting. The service was excellent. It was our servers first day on his own. He was very knowledgable and on point with attending to our needs! The food is so well prepared and presented, The Boro will be your new favorite restaurant. We ordered the tomato salad. It is not tomatoes with a little olive oil and lemon. Very complex with amazing texture. Must try!Next the prawns. You didnt know you could love turnips. Cooked to perfection. What can I say about the pizza? The crust is the best. Crunchy without being tough. Very fresh toppings and a lot of flavor. Our dining companion recommended the buttermilk pie. The flavor is similar to cheesecake with a very different texture.Beautiful and delicious!Im a customer of all of Savas restaurants and love how the managers, in this case, Kelsey are so in tune with what is going on and provide support wherever its needed.Bravo Sava!#TheBoro #Savas #Aventura
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed dining here. We arrived close to 7pm on a Thursday, and it was very busy. We were prepared to wait as we had called ahead and told that seating is first come first served. We sat outside on the deck, had some drinks, and were seated after about a 40 minute wait. The dining area is beautiful, the kitchen is gorgeous and is open and visible upon entry, and the waitstaff were professional and attentive. The food: the Caesar salad was unexpectedly delicious, and the tomato salad (recommended to me by another patron) was delightful. We decided to order one mushroom and one sausage pizza. Incredibly well done. The crust is flavorful, the toppings and composition of the pizzas made for some of the best pizza I have had in a long time, and that comes from someone who eats a lot of pizza. Definitely a new spot to frequent when Im in Ann Arbor.
I have only tried the take out cafe. The pastry chef is amazing! I can’t believe how good the ham and cheese croissants are, the savory scones and the pizza too!The only thing that is irritating is not being allowed to order a dessert from take out from the restaurant! I am not sure how the quality of the take out pizza would be any different since I have to reheat it. I was told that they don’t want the quality to be less by the time it gets home….. I can decide that on my own. Bummed I can’t try them at home. The girls at the cafe are also super nice and have good customer service!
Love, love, LOVE this place! Stopped in for an early lunch on a Saturday after a busy morning of doctors appointments and paperwork with the hubby. We were seated at the bar because we didnt have a reservation and the place was already buzzing. The bartender (who doubled as our server) was SO attentive and wonderful and our food was excellent. I splurged and had the burger, and my husband ordered (and loved!) the pancakes. Our cocktails were made perfectly and the lemon cupcake was the perfect way to end the meal! We will absolutely be back.
Excellent place for dinner/Lunch. I really liked the ambiance. The food is very good, they offer valet parking. Prior reservations are recommended. I went there for dinner and enjoyed a seafood and wine. I would definitely recommend roasted COD or duck if you are non vegetarian. They have good collection of wines, but you can try the house made cocktails. The Dixboro Project is located close to Ann Arbor away from city rush where you can enjoy the family dinner or lunch any day of week.
I love woodfired pizza and Ive tried many kinds of them through on my travel in italy and also in other europe and asia countries. Boros woodfired pizza was the pizza which contained healthy and flavory ingredients. And, I felt like each ingredients having each own taste were combined very nice in one. I felt they endeaverd and cared so much for developing their recipe with good ingredients. Im happy to find this lovely and nice restaurant. Their barn style restaurant is also very beautiful with outside tables in the wood.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in southeast Michigan. The food was fantastic. Ive been multiple times. Ive tried the mushroom pizza, scallops, the chicken, desserts, and it was all wonderful. Highly recommended if youre looking for a nicer than average night out. Also the service was great!
We went to the opening weekend of their fine dining concept, The Dixboro House. We were BLOWN AWAY by their five course tasting menu. We normally have to travel to Chicagos Michelin Star restaurants for this quality of food and service. Everything was perfectly presented and definitely worth the the experience. I will be raving about their wine pairings, their onion tart, their granite dessert and their duck for weeks - at which point I will be back to try the March testing menu!
The pizza is great, but this review is dedicated to the croissants. No bakery in AA comes close to these bad boys and honestly they’re better than 99% of croissants I’ve had in other cities. Makes sense, as the pastry chef was previously at Tartine! Personal favorites are the almond croissant and the ham and cheese croissant, but honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them (they also have a pain au chocolat, plain croissant, and a morning bun).
I went here for my 38th birthday with a few friends and we all LOVED it! The food, the atmosphere, the customer service from the young lady at the front was phenomenal. I have to say that the young lady kind of set the tone for the whole dinner. She was so sweet when she took my name down to put us on the waitlist and at my age a birthday is just another day but she really went out of her way to celebrate me. The wait was very long but the chef is really well known so this place gets packed. We didn’t mind because they have a SKU on the tables outside where you can order food and beer from( it is not the entire menu but still some good options). When they sat us inside the decor was beautiful which isn’t easy to find in Ann Arbor as much as bigger cities like Chicago, and Austin. This is a casual college town so it’s nice when you find a place where you can dress up for( but you can definitely go casual). The food was SO good and worth the wait. The chicken was a chicken sausage but my friend loved it. Literally everything was so good. I got the tomato and yellow watermelon salad with the prawns and I would absolutely order it again. The aperol spritz and elderberry spritz were so refreshing on a hot summer day. Everything was perfect and I cannot wait to go back with my family for brunch.
Finally fine dining for everyone.Where to start....We had a pizza as an appitizer....amazingPasta....amazingSalads...amazingDrinks probably cost more than you are used to but still really good. The whole vibe was really great. The entire staff was friendly and fast to help.We were in the Dining Room. They also have to-go and you eat at the tables outside. If you need somewhere for a special occasion check this place out!!
We get what they are trying to go for here, but it falls short. The restaurant is modern/minimalist but feels stark and empty. The staff are very professional. Service is great. The food has a great appearance, but portions are small, and sometimes flavor is lacking. Another typical a la carte menu. The pricing... Well I have a very hard time understanding how they justify NYC pricing. I have left several times now thinking this is not worth the expensive prices. Will avoid the restaurant and only stick with the pizzas and pastries.
I had a really enjoyable experience tonight eating dinner with my husband for his birthday. Upscale dining with a modern barn/art museum type feel. I was a bit intimidated at first, but the staff were very kind. I had a wonderful latte and would love to try brunch here. Our burgers were good, but a bit heavy on the mustard even after adding the gravy. Overall, a great experience.
Very cool atmosphere and friendly staff. Owner came to table and was great to talk to. This was my 4th time there. Three times this past summer outside and this 4th time inside. Their pizza is really good. But the entrees inside were very small portions with high prices. Prices for wine and cocktails are ridiculous in price. My friend ordered some special cocktail with spiced rum and a raw egg which you could drink in one gulp, it was so small and was $17. So far the pizza is only thing worth going for.
The food was beautifully presented. We found the menu to be short on options with only about 10-12 entrees. More than half of those were seafood or pasta. We went with the duck and the ribeye. For the price, they were sorely lacking in flavor. We noticed that a lot of tables around us ordered the pizza, it was the most reasonably priced option on the menu. The atmosphere was stark, nothing special. With the vast number of great restaurants in the area, we wont be back to The Boro.
We’re excited to try another Sava’s dining experience. Classic top notch service and the ambiance are lovely. 6 stars.I’m however not yet convinced by the dishes. The highly raved mushroom pizza is soggy and half baked. The taste is one dimensional. Missing the nuances and complexity. Maple syrup makes it way too sweet and the rosemary is lost all together. I barely finished one slice.Prosciutto di San Daniele: meat is too salty. Sourdough bread slices are loaded with too much oil. Amazing olives. I would have loved more bitter greens to contrast the flavors.Cipollini onions- I find the Marsala & foie gras sauce too sweet. I would recommend the kitchen to slowly braise these tiny onions with balsamic vinegar to give it some acidity and balance out the natural sweetness of the onions after a long roast.Love the potato puffs. Fun and unexpected yum in one bite. Bravo.I’m saying all these because we love Sava’s determination to bring Ann Arbor’s dining scene to another level. It’s showing some great potential and there is room for improvement.Thank you for a lovely evening. We loved the staff and the sweet touches throughout the restaurant. Hope to return for a updated and improved menu.
Wife went and said the food was incredible. Had the prime rib sandwich and it was the best she ever had. The chips that come with it were homemade and delicious dipped in the sandwich sauce. The homemade syrups for the lattes, etc., were great as well. Will visit here again.
As others have stated, it’s a lovely atmosphere with tasty options. Do I think some items are overpriced? Yes. Look at the alcohol used in their cocktails as an example. However, the pizzas, focaccia, and service is good. I personally wouldn’t go here frequently due to price vs. taste (avoid the burger) but I could see this being a nice spot to visit here and there. You’re paying more so for the ambiance than anything else.
This place is going to be a must-go restaurant in Ann Arbor. They have outside sitting areas as well as in-door bar table area. Maybe they will get the tables and chairs indoor soon. We ordered a mushroom pizza and it was delicious. Other menus look great. They have their own customized coffees roasted from Roos roast, which is fresh and good. The staffs were also very kind and helpful. I will visit here again soon to try croissant in the morning and other entrees. Very recommended.
Food is different and outstanding! We sat at the bar and service was excellent. Only criticism is we watched bartender use bare hands adding stuffed olives to our martini and proceeded to handle cash and back to food. Recommend gloves for food handling! We will go back to try different items.
We dont often get desert because its the same few options. We tried 3. Not only were they all amazing, but they were each a work of art.My wife said her dinner was the best food she had ever had, and mine was fabulous as well. It was an excellent choice for our 26th anniversary, and we will be going back soon!
Comfortable, with fantastic pizza. Also very accommodating. I recently had a meeting that went a little long, sitting at the bar there. I felt bad as we hadn’t ordered much even though the place was busy, and apologized to the bartender. He couldn’t have been more friendly or gracious about it.
The Boro has easily become one of our weekly destinations for food. We absolutely love the setup within the small town of Dixboro & the natural landscape that his behind the building. The pizza is amazing! The outdoor wrap around patio seating is great, but we are looking forward to indoor dining later this year.
My girlfriend & I were excited to visit this location, we came to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We ordered at 12:03pm, and waited a very long time. We noticed people who came after us received their food, so I went inside and inquired, they said Few more minutes, yours is next.Ultimately, I walked back in at 12:54 and they said It just went in. I demanded answers and everyone was very passive, no eye contact and Chloe (manager) offered no real explanation. Eventually, we received our (refunded) food at 12:58 just to find out it was also burnt. Really?!Of all people, you did it to the person who films marketing commercials for restaurants.
OMG - What a fabulous experience! My wife and I were gifted a reservation for our 23rd wedding anniversary. We were not expecting a packed restaurant on a Sunday evening… we were wrong. Not only was the restaurant hopping, so were the staff. The bar made nice strong drinks and the appetizer (prawns) were not too far behind. We both had the scallops… they were the equal of those prepared by Chef Louis at The Blue Llama. The potato puffs were delectable. Neither the prawns nor the scallops were overdone! BRAVO! Our very attentive and helpful wait staff Torrey was a pleasure. We finished with a chocolate tort and I had a dessert brandy; both perfect. What a gastronomic pleasure The Dixboro Project is… We will make this place one of our special favorites.P.S. Thanks Veta and Mike for the wonderful gift❤️
We were excited to try this new spot. The work theyve done to the facilities and site are really great - its a special spot. We did have a bit of a mixed experience here, however, though I could see us returning sometime to give it another try.We got the sausage pizza, which was very good, and the bolognese, which was not very good. The bolognese was under-flavored and the portion was small. If the flavor was there, we would not have minded the portion size. The staff were all pleasant and attentive but perhaps a bit undertrained - simple questions seemed to throw them off a bit.The chocolate tart dessert was the highlight - it was excellent.
My wife and I were excited for our first experience at The Boro. We parked at 10:05 am, walked in and ordered two honey and cinnamon oat milk lattes, Almond Croissant, and the breakfast sandwich with no cheese off the morning menu. We then waited in our car to receive our order. Our experience is a mixed one, both good and bad. At around 10:15 someone came to our car and told us they were out of almond croissant so we opted for a chocolate one instead. We waited until 10:34 to get our order. The honey and cinnamon lattes tasted so good, but unfortunately they were lukewarm at best. We then waited to get home before we dived into our eats. The chocolate croissant was sooooo good and melted in your mouth. Definitely recommend. Just the right amount of chocolate for our tastes. The sandwich was really good too. The bread it is made on was amazing! Almost a mix between a good brioche bun and a biscuit. The texture was something we have never had before. Unfortunately it had cheese on it, which was the one thing we had ordered it without. The box it came in even said no cheese. The good...tasty drinks and the food is delicious. The bad...long wait time. Almost seemed like they forgot about our order. We waited 30 minutes for two drinks, a croissant, and a breakfast sandwich. Our drinks were lukewarm, the croissant we originally ordered wasnt available, and the sandwich we ordered without cheese came with cheese. For the wait time and what seems to be a high price point ($31.21), it would have been nice to get the order right.
I would be wary of this place. Staff changed the tip amount to an extra $30. Would not have even realized if my friend hadn’t alerted me that the same thing happened to them.Menu is a bit disjointed. Don’t get the potato cheese ‘pastries’. It’s basically very bad hush puppies. Scallops and Pizza are good.Service was a bit patchy.Girl automatically assumed my husband would taste the wine. Then rolled her eyes when he said I would. When we asked was the menu family style, shareables or individual she acted very snobby.Probably would not visit again. There are excellent fine dining places in Detroit
It is a beautiful restaurant with good food. Wine and cocktails are a bit overpriced in my opinion, even for Ann Arbor. Entrees were fair, about $25-35, sides around $12, I believe the pizza was around $25. I did find the servers interrupting constantly to refill every sip of water I took irritating but at least they have an abundance of help.
I tried booking the Dixboro Project for UM Graduation Weekend. First I was instructed that online reservations would be made available 2-months out. So when that time came I checked and online booking was still closed, so I called. Dixboro staff told me that I had been added to an email list and that I would be notified when reservations opened up. Everyweek thereafter, when I didnt receive an email, I called back to check. Each time they indicated grad reservations werent released yet. Fast forward a month and now they are fully booked? I cant speak to the food but the customer service/reservation process is a nightmare...
Been looking forward to trying this place for months. The staff was great and the setting lovely. Sticker shock with some of the prices - $20 for a cocktail?? As for the food, we had a ham appetizer that was nothing special (few different ingredients assembled on a plate but no synergy of flavor among them). For the main dish, we all had pizzas. The mushroom one was fantastic, but 2 out of the three (pepperoni and pineapple) were unevenly seasoned and INCREDIBLY salty (and we are liberal with salt in our house). We likely wont return soon.
I wanted to like this place, but wasn’t impressed. Let me start by saying the atmosphere is well done and the staff are very friendly. That said, my boyfriend and I were sat between two large parties and could not hear each other. The acoustics were awful. Then, the food. We ordered tuna tartare, pickled vegetables, bolognese, and the burger. The vegetables were good, but tasted like they had only been pickling an hour or two. The tuna tasted old and chewy. The bolognese I have no real complaints it just sort of fell flat, a solid 6. The burger was ordered medium and came out less than rare. The sides of the burger were still bright pink. They made another one and it was better/edible but now seared on all sides and still more rare/medium rare.I don’t know if we came on a bad night, but hopefully the food gets better.
We had cocktails and dinner at the Boro (Dixboro Project) this past weekend, and here’s how it went. We arrived at the bustling and elegant restaurant. The hostess promptly directed to the neat bar area anchored by a rustic fireplace. I ordered us drinks and found a place at the bar. We stood for approximately 15 minutes, sipping our drinks and taking in the ambiance. Once we were seated in the dining room, menus followed, including a comprehensive wine list and a few minutes to decide. We ordered the focaccia appetizer, a dinner-sized arugula salad, and the Rotolo. The food was overly salty, which was a huge letdown. Also, my entree’s textures were very unsavory. My wife also complained that her salad tasted salty. On the plus side, our cocktails were delicious, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. I’m unsure what happened since my first visit on 10.21, but the food has done an about-face.
Went to the Boro for my birthday last week. There were 4 of us. Two of us ordered the scallops which were $40 each. The entree came with 3 midsize scallops which were lacking in flavor. The pasta primavera was in a tiny bowl which we thought was a side dish. Portions so small and overpriced. Pizza looked good and was the only reasonable item on the menu. The drinks were outrageously priced. A glass of wine was $17. The service was excellent in the restaurant, but after our meal, we were asked if we would be ordering any more food after just finishing and our plates were cleared......and after spending more than $300 with a nice tip. We moved outside and after ordering another drink, no one ever returned. An after Hennessy was $99. How do you like them apples? We will not be returning!
Very pleasing and clean spaces. Ample parking. Beautiful location surrounded by woods on a main road.We were refused service when we ordered lattes with dine-in porcelain coffee cups to take to their patio outside. The staff quoted “safety reasons” for not being able to provide the cups and offered to-go paper cups. Both dumbfounding and inconsiderate to not attempt to give due diligence of providing sound reasoning.Of course, we aren’t owed a full explanation however this is a service establishment and there are high expectations to offer people an experience that is as elementary as offering proper dish-ware.We walked away without ordering. We felt that the establishment was not invested in properly catering to us.This is not a walkable location. Taking to go cups from here makes no sense because it’s not a drive-thru. Additionally, drinking coffee from one-time use plastic or paper cups is both wasteful and a subpar experience.
The Dixboro Project has everything and I’d recommend stopping by multiple times for a taste of it all. Check out The Boro to go for a morning pasty and latte, The Boro for dinner, and definitely for a special night be sure to check out The Dixboro Project which has a rotating tasting menu that’ll blow your mind.Everything on this menu is delicious! The menu is thoughtfully prepared, each dish unique and flavorful, and most of the food is sourced locally. The menu is constantly refreshing with the seasons and bring focus to the best each season has to offer. My go to take out is the mushroom pizza. The service is top notch with friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable wait staff. One of the gems of Dixboro is Kelsey, the in house sommelier. Kelsey’s ability to pair wines perfectly to both the food and your pallet is very impressive. The ambiance is also spectacular— a restored farmhouse with vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams, and large windows. They also have art from local artists showcased throughout the space.
Full Belly but empty wallet. We went for lunch yesterday, with a reservation. We arrived a bit early and were seated in ~2 mins. The dining room was packed and the noise others have mentioned is truly deafening. Be prepared not to hear the server or the members of your party over the cacophony. We ordered some delicious oysters, an amazing green salad, and the mushroom pizza, 2 cocktails and two glasses of wine. With tip, the bill was nearly 200 USD for two people. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. After our meal, we were curious about the great wine we purchased and came to realize that the wines that go for ~20 USD a glass, can be purchased for ~21 USD per bottle. We think they earn our review of 4 stars, but the most lasting taste in our mouths is that this place costs too much for what it offers overall.
Update: went for dinner on 2/10 and had a wonderful meal. We had the chicken and the scallops. Chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned with crispy skin. Scallops had a nice sear but still so tender they melted in your mouth. Dessert was a key lime Panna Cotta with sweet ginger foam. It was the perfect mix of sweet, sour and tangy. Amazing meal.Delicious food, prompt, knowledgeable service, and an amazing venue. Our server recommended a delicious Malbec. For dinner I had the burger mid-rare with a side of roasted cauliflower. The burger was tender, and juicy, the cauliflower was firm, sweet and spicy. I cannot wait to return.
I was very excited to go to the dixboro project. I arrived after a long day of exercise at around 645pm only to be very disappointed. I was their for around an hour before are 4 pizza arrived. Only to be disappointed again by the horribly burnt pizza that I was struggling to consume. I thought pizZa could not be this burnt before I went here. HOW CAN I WAIT AN HOUR AN BE SERVED THIS BURNT GARBAGE. On top of all of this I paid 116 dollars for this disappointment. Should have went to dominos. Please dont go here if you dont want to wait an hour and eat bad pizza. If you do go here add an attachment to your order telling these employees not to burn your pizza. Gordon Ramsay would think that this restaurant is trying to kill him. Anyways very sad and could have spent 80 less bucks with better pizza going to dominoes.
Absolutely amazing food and customer service! While waiting in the car for our order, a staff member gave us complimentary tea.The mushroom pizza was delicious. Sava also gave us a complimentary dessert - Chocolate Pave (which was heavenly).I am so excited for this restaurant to thrive and cannot wait to try more dishes, both for breakfast and dinner!
Absolutely phenomenal in every way. We are SO lucky to have this world class restaurant here locally. I have lived an eaten all over the world (including at Per Se and The French Laundry) and this is the Real Deal.Don’t pay any attention to reviews that say it’s “pricey” or that they wouldn’t sing Happy Birthday to someone and ruined their party. Students looking for a cheap eat and Olive Garden loving patrons should stay away. Anyone not leaving a five star review doesn’t appreciate fine dinning with superb food, service and ambiance…stay home and order in.The Boro is a foodie’s dream. I’ve been several times and will continue to frequent as much as possible. Priced are very fair for the quality of food. Service is as good as the best restaurants globally, but with our casual Michigan charm..I pray the chef and owner (who is lovely) keep up the standards, as they are deserving of at least one Michelin star. Go now before you have to wait a year for a booking - it’s an amazing experience, The Best of The Best, truly World Class!
Very highly recommended. The food is fantastic. For our first carryout order we sampled several items including the minestrone soup and the chopped salad and both were excellent. We tried 2 pizzas: the Mushroom and the Pineapple. Everything was among the best representations of these dishes we have ever had. Looking forward to trying what appears to be an exciting dessert menu too. We also love the excellent remodeling work for the restaurant and a focus on the restoration of the nearby creek. Cannot wait for seated dining to become available later in 2021.
Why does anyone eat out? Even if youre meeting friends you go to places that have good food, right? The Boro has Fantastic food, full stop! First time there and I had scallops, the best Ive ever had. Eileen had Halibut that melted in your mouth. Go there you wont be disappointed in the food. But...(theres always a but), $20 for a martini...really? Were not in SF! Were in Ann Arbor, right on the border with Canton. Im not trying to be a cheapskate, we spent $125 including tip on two entries, a glass of beer and a glass of wine and Ill do it again in a heartbeat. But $20 for a Martini? Ill have to try one, Once!
Food was good. Called twice for corkage fee and the girl said there wasnt. When we got the bill there was a 40$ corkage charge, which they removed. We had extra food a whole pizza to take away they never brought it to us even tho we asked for takeaway, very disappointing. This is how they answer emails, vs how they answer on google! The rest is self explanatory. Instead of asking how to improve service, they ask you not to come back! 😂
This place is a welcome addition to the Ann Arbor dining scene, with tastes and ambiance reminiscent of California cuisine. Having a nice meal in a more natural setting than most Ann Arbor restaurants was a nice treat. My only complaint is that the cafe food&drink options are not very gluten free friendly for diners with this food allergy, beyond some protein-scarce salads. I’d love to see the Boro lead the way on gluten free pizza- there are so few high quality gf pizza options in Ann Arbor! Carrying some cider in addition to beer would also be another way to provide more inclusive options.
We went to the restaurant on a friends recommendation last night. We were amazed at the bar staffs knowledge of every dish. Katie and Cass were amazing. Every dish they recommended was incredible and lived up to their description. The wine that was recommended was exceptional. We woke up Sunday saying we have to go back as it was so good...Which we did. Thank you Katie and Cass and the rest of the staff. Top notch restaurant without the stuffiness. Loved it and will highly recommend.
Fantastic dinner experience for a birthday dinner. Inside is beautiful and they have outdoor seating available, if you prefer. We ordered the scallops, oysters, and pizza and they were all fantastic! Truly a special experience with great service. Parking is easy and you skip the hustle/bustle and traffic of downtown. This restaurant is owned by the same owner of Savas and Aventura. I would highly recommend and look forward to going back soon! Thank you, Boro!
From 5 to 1 after a second visit.First visit: Sit outside on a table as first come first serve. Pull menu on your phone and done! Enjoy the view, and the great food any time of day. Love this new addition to A2 food scene!Second visit: We arrived. The place was jam-packed. We were informed that our food would take 45 minutes to arrive. We thought that it didnt matter, because we had the garden is nice, we had our drinks and last time we had a blast. Well, we received no attention for 45 minutes. After 90 minutes, we were starving and thirsty, and decided it was time to complaint. The response: we served your salad and two pizzas to another party!!! The solution: they gave us three small pastries, and handed the bill for our drinks, salad and two pizzas. We asked for the manager a couple it times. Never showed up.If you want to be scammed in Ann Arbor, you know where you have to go now!
If you want to see a very well done building renovation, please go. If you like pizza and want to sit outside, go. If you dont mind waiting two hours, watching others who arrived after you (reservations are not taken) be seated before you, being told that those people were special, just so you can spend $100+ per person on dinner, go. We left and wont return.
Ann Arbor has a new best restaurant. The entire dining experience feels like a curated tour through foodie heaven. As a townie, its automatically required to dine at every new restaurant that opens, but to find myself back at the same restaurant multiple times so quickly, and enjoying the experience more each time is unprecedented. Great job to Sava and Will on executing their vision, and highest praise to Joe, Cass, Kelsey, Anna, Katie, Rachel, and the rest of the team for elevating Ann Arbors dining culture.
I must update my previous 5-star rating to a 3-star. Now that this restaurant is fully opened it seems ill-equip to handle the crowd. With only a couple of people ahead of me at the Boro, service took about 30 minutes. The managers attitude made it clear the take-out customers were clearly an inconvenience. Its too bad such a high-quality restaurant cannot offer good service, too.
We used The Boro for my sons wedding. From the first phone call to meeting to emails to getting the pizza- everything was easy, professional and prompt. The food was delicious and all the guests loved it. So happy we could support this new endeavor and highly recommend to try them.
We have carried out food twice from The Boro. The menu was understandably abbreviated when they first opened. We had two pizzas and thought they were wonderful. Fresh and well prepared. Tonight, the menu was expanded and we ordered several items: A wonderful chicken Milanese, a large salad, pizza, soup and some morning buns. We were thrilled! The chicken was my favorite. The morning buns did not last until morning. They are crispy and delicious. I am looking forward to seeing what menu delights await us at The Boro. My husband and I also wish the team much success!!!!!!!!!!
They currently only have outdoor seating or carryout. It was cold and windy. I very much enjoyed the Spanish Tuna tartine. Id order it again. The almond croissant was excellent. That said, for me, I was not impressed with their lunch offerings and thought the breakfast menu more interesting. The tuna tartine was the only thing appealing to me. In fairness to The Boro, I will have to try something else. Also, the pizza looked excellent so when Im in the mood for a pizza, this is where I will go.
The Boro is a bit of a hidden gem in the Dixboro/Northside Ann Arbor area. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They have plenty of outdoor seating (inside seating was actually closed when I went. So outdoors is the only option). Not only do they have seating surrounding the building, but there is also a rather large picnic area in the back where the staff will bring your food out to you.The only downsides about this place are its pretty pricey. I dont mind paying for a good artisanal pizza, but paying over 20 dollars for a mushroom pizza is a bit high. The drink menu was also a bit misleading as well. There are a few cocktails on the menu that are labeled as being for 3-4 people that would absolutely NOT be big enough for 4 people. They come in a neat little pint bottle that is more suited for 2 people. Ill post a pic for size reference. They should really consider changing that wording. All in all this is a nice place to come and enjoy a nice outdoor atmosphere with friends if you are in the mood to splurge a little bit. The food is delicious, the people nice, but you pay for the ambiance. I look forward to coming again maybe when the indoor seating and bar seating are available.
Pretty good experience for a first timer. I enjoyed the pizzas but was hoping for a more extensive appetizer menu..... perhaps when they fully open later this year?Unfortunately, we went on a night with lots of bugs and mosquitoes in the air. I think that will be the norm since they are located in a woody area so hope they can find a solution for outdoor dining.
Just quick stop to look inside & try a bakery treat - got some type of $6 cinnamon/sugar glazed croissant. I was really disappointed - it was very burned, tough & dry. They all kind of looked that way. I dont know that Id even try again. Restaurant looked nice on the inside, but werent there to eat dinner, so my review is only about the bakery.
The almond croissant is the best one I had for a while. It is almost perfect. The environment is awesome as well. Haven’t had the chance to taste other items in the menu yet, but sounds tasty and will definitely give a try. Overall, I think this could be the fine-dining restaurant AA has been waiting for. Super excited.
Update 5/17: At Brooks (the manager) invitation, we went back on Monday to give The Boro another chance. I had a Margherita pizza and my husband had the sausage pizza. Both arrived hot and looked and smelled great. They also tasted fantastic. The Tiramisu was to die for! Obviously some kinks need to be worked out but the food is spot on.We waited over an hour for our food. In fact, my receipt says I placed my order at 7:39pm. Its now 8:57pm, I still dont have my food and they close at 9pm. Still waiting for a 3 pizzas and a salad. 100+ dollar order...still waiting.....
Incredible service and delicious food! We placed an order for pick up and when we arrived the attendant approached and was very welcoming, respectful, and knew the status of our order without even having to go inside to check. He maintained a safe distance and we felt safe throughout the process. The pizzas were incredible - very flavorful. 10/10 would recommend. Cant wait to try more of their food.
**Edited to add**The manager reached out to us later in the evening the original review was posted to apologize for the food quality and to rectify the issue. While we were not able to highly rate the pizza because of the condition in which it was received, we are happy with the way the issue was handled so I would rate this particular experience good overall. Hope to give The Boro another try in the future.-------Extremely disappointing. We were given a completely burnt mushroom pizza as part of a takeout order. (See uploaded photo) For $20+ they set the bar high and fell completely flat. How this left the kitchen I don’t know but not a good first impression. Don’t think we’ll be giving another try.
Ann Arbor needed this! I spent a few months in San Francisco before moving to Ann Arbor in April and was so relieved to hear about The Boro. The pastries are phenomenal (comparable to the famous Tartine) and the food is great. I had the asparagus salad and a pizza. There are few restaurants in Michigan of this quality. Highly recommend.
Pricey but the pizza was outstanding. We had a pepperoni pizza and a mushroom pizza. Both had crispy crusts and that wonderful wood fired taste. The pepperoni was loaded with sliced up meat. And the mushroom was covered with large pieces of portobello srooms. Plus the cake we had the dessert was outstanding.
I was fortunate to be customer #1 the morning this new Dixboro addition opened. I was treated to great coffee and a chocolate croissant. Delicious!Back the second evening for a pepperoni pizza. Not like any others in town. Very very tasty. So happy to see this restaurant on our side of town and in our community. The owner is gracious and committed to make this an asset for all.Congratulations.
I want to love this place. I want to be a regular here and I want to come so often I know the names of the staff. So Im reserving final judgment until theyre open for real, but honestly, Im solidly in the middle of the road right now. Weve gotten takeout pizza twice, both times adequate but ultimately underwhelming. Mani and Bigalora, in my opinion, both have better wood fired pizza.Again, Ill keep coming here, and once they open for real, Ill try every entree they have, but I dont know that Ill bother with carryout again before then.
We went to The Boro for the first time today and were excited to try a new place. The wait for a table was an hour even though we went at 5pm. We were swayed by the hostess to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table. We ordered an appetizer, waited for 35 minutes and watched the people sitting on either side of us get multiple courses delivered to them. We never got our appetizer. Our bartender was too busy socializing with the people next to us to see if we would like a refill on our drinks or even check on the appetizer so we decided that we would just get up and leave instead of paying $19 for an appetizer. It seems like you need to know somebody to get service there. On a side note, since we had so much time on our hands, we watched another bartender water down all the drinks he was making!
Ok I am addicted. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. The staff are friendly, helpful, and want to work there. The location is perfect! The food....SUPERB! Congratulations for opening such a beautiful restaurant that has consistency in the food, its presentation, and its taste.I have been there almost 10 times since opening and cannot say no to the croissants, the brussel sprout salad, the pizzas. I am waiting for it to get warmer to enjoy, savor a warm meal.SOOOO EXCITED!
Amazing place. Ill start by saying I dont like mushrooms. I told my wife to order a pizza and Id pick it up on my way home from work. Of course she ordered the mushroom pizza... The crust was nearly perfect, my one complaint was that it was a bit thin in the middle. The sauce was one of the most flavorful Ive ever had on a pizza, and the mushrooms just went perfectly with the sauce. It was heaven.I am now counting the days until my next pizza from The Boro.
The bakery is phenomenal. The coffee is top notch. I have been blown away by every dish and pizza I have tried (and Ive tried most things on the menu). The staff is so friendly and professional. It is evident The Boro strives for perfection and excellence. I will be back very soon and very often.
Went at 5:00pm on a weekday. Terrible acoustics.Place is too loud for normal convo at table of 4. Drinks very weak and pricey- elderflower spritzer (no taste of St. Germaine), Aviation did not come at correct color and no taste of violet. Worst is service (yes, Im taking into account place was busy); told seating 3 of our table of 6 would be an inconvenience to staff (what???) because they like to take orders only once . Huh??? Very rude. When a 6th person joined our table about 15 min later, they were told to stand and wait for a chair. They stood over 5 min. I think this must be a place to take a date (2 people) not so much a place to go to after work to have a drink/meet friends. No parking (place only at about 70% capacity) and people were driving away.
We went to the Boro with high hopes, having great experiences with Savas and Aventura. On our maiden visit, we opted for outside dining, since this was our first dining out experience post covid. Outside dining turned out to mean that you order from the take-out menu and the food is delivered to your table. Each outdoor table has a QR code on it. Scanning it brings you to the Boros take-out ordering system. The descriptions of things varied widely in usefulness. The pizza descriptions were helpful. For salads, it was difficult to tell if it was salad greens plus vegetables or a plate of crudités. The wine menu was useless. The wines occur in no discernable order - reds mixed with whites mixed with sparkling. Descriptions of the wines might have the name of the winery and their name for the wine, but no information about the grape. (Some did, some didnt.) Most of the take-out menu was geared towards pizzas. Yet many of the wines were $150 to $200 per bottle. We ordered a $55 bottle of cabernet sauvignon. After some time, someone arrived to tell us that was unavailable and offered a substitute. Moments before uncorking the substitute, she told us it was a little more expensive. How much? Oh, this wine is $92. Um, sorry, not with pizza. Simultaneously, she and I found a pinot noir for about $60.The pizzas were definitely good. Theyre wood grilled. We had one garlic pizza and one mushroom pizza. The chopped salads were also pretty good. The ingredients were fresh and the dressing seemed home-made.Things would have gone much better if we had gone to the little side door for take-out orders. We had gone up to that door, but no one was in the little room. A staff person came up behind us and steered us to the online ordering system. The set-up was just too clever by half. It took a little over an hour for us to figure out the ordering system, order the food and wine, and have it show up at our table. When it did show up, it was in pizza to-go boxes and the salads were also in to-go containers, with paper plates and napkins provided, too. A service charge / tip was automatically added, but Im not sure what it was for. The to-go boxes ended up being convenient since it started raining right as our food arrived. We carted it all to the car, drove home, and ate our first post pandemic meal out at our dining room table.
Went with friends for pizza and salad. Cheep, flimsy outside table collapsed. A manager told us to put our order on one bill and offered the injured party a glass of wine. We assumed some sort of compensation for the collapse was coming. Nope. We were charged FULL price, had to have the whole bill split out ( why bother to have one bill???) and the bill included $17 charge for a tiny plastic cup of lukewarm white wine that was never ordered, HE offered it. Food was mediocre, service not great and the tables are made of compressed sawdust. Avoid this place!!!
Ok food, but WAY overpriced. $20 drinks and $10 draft beer. My meal also came out as my family was finishing theirs. Much better options out there. Disappointing.7-14 Adding that even though I was invited below to write the establishment directly and did, over a week with zero response with any comment on the additional detail I provided and kept off of here. This just confirms the arrogance of the place and how much they truly dont care about your experience there.
Amazing. The croissants are out of this world - as good as in Paris. They come in plain, chocolate, almond, and the Morning Buns are a cinnamon sugar treat made from the croissant pastry. For lunch, I highly recommend their wood-fired pizzas. I was blown away by the mushroom pizza!
Just finished eating the Boro Bowl (half of it, anyway) for breakfast. A generous portion, it was delicious and filling. Can’t wait to try lunch and dinner! The staff is friendly and helpful, too.I am so glad we have a restaurant that is appealing and inviting on this side of town.I highly recommend a visit!
Everything at the Dixboro house is excellent!!! Amazing food, full cocktail list, great service, and the space itself is so beautiful and well-done. Highly recommend the hamachi tuna, the burrata, the prosciutto, and the potato puffs. This easily has to be some of the best food in Ann Arbor and is well worth the drive out of downtown. Can’t wait to go back and try more!
My mom and I went out for breakfast at The Boro this morning. It was actively snowing so we ended up eating in the car rather than the patio tables but we still enjoyed a pleasant view of the nature area. We ordered the Dixboro Breakfast and the Buro Bowl and both were outstanding. We were huge fans of Wilmas in Ann Arbor before it closed and the Boro did not disappoint. Our order was ready right on time, the staff we super friendly, and the to-go packaging was sturdy and high-end. Coffee drinks we excellent as well. I am definitely looking forward to trying the rest of the menu especially the pizza and mortadella sandwich for my husband. Yummy!!!
I went for lunch takeout inside the restaurant to order. They told me to park in a spot and they will bring the food to my car so I waited in my car for 30 minutes. I finally called them and ask where is my order? They had forgotten about me so I had to wait for few more minutes to get my order. All the corners of the sandwich bread were burned and the Spanish tuna sandwich was dry. The banana chocolate tart that I ordered was very sweet and nothing stood out.
$53 w tip for a chopped salad that was leafy greens (e.g. not chopped) and a pineapple pizza for a 41 minute wait. Table next to us left before getting their food. Didn’t get a great sense they have this place figured out, or it’s understaffed. Skip Boro and go to Mani instead for pizza.
Heres a tip - tables available means you have tables available. What tables available *doesnt* mean is that there are 6 occupied tables outside that each have at least one party waiting for them, and no other seating available.Roger Monks was miles better. Friendly, low key, unique. This place now just looks like literally every other restaurant anywhere else.
To say I was unimpressed would be a bold-faced lie. In fact, I would expect to be cancelled if I were to post something negative about this restaurant. And it would be completely justified in said hypothetical scenario. However, I was neither unimpressed nor inclined to write a negative review! Oh, quite the contrary! I was fully satisfied with every aspect of my dinner this evening. Even if I werent, the wood-fired pizza alone would rid my mind of any other potential negative ideologies regarding this establishment. The pepperoni pizza was quite literally one of the best pizzas my mouth has had the pleasure of biting into, chewing, and swallowing. This, of course, says nothing of how the rest of my sensory and digestive system reacted as the za hit my taste buds for the first time, then proceeded to enter and nourish my covid-fatigued body. Ill be back- as the former governor and sharer of my name would say. And let me tell you, I cannot wait!
We are residents of Ann Arbor who have frequented the Lord and Fox many times as well as Aventura and Sava’s. We love Sava’s and expected a similar experience. I placed our order on the phone to go, we ordered the crispy chicken cutlets and the Italian Panino. I asked for no lettuce on the Panino and was told that the sandwiches are all premade and I could not get it without lettuce. Personally, I do not like to order sandwiches premade that have lettuce on them because the lettuce is always slimy and gross. Well, that’s exactly what I got. A cold sandwich, not pressed, with slimy lettuce. So, I proceeded to remove all the lettuce and ate half of the sandwich. Four hours later I was incredibly ill, spent the next 12 hours in the bathroom, with food poisoning. The chicken cutlets were fried to the point of cardboard, literally not having a drop of moisture in them. The accompanying potato hash was quite tasty. Considering the accolades this business claims to have received, it’s very hard for to comprehend that they pre-make their sandwiches and could serve a chicken dish so horribly prepared. To top it off there was a cold salad included with the chicken entrée that was placed ON TOP of the hot chicken entree in the bag so when we got it home we had a dish of hot jicama slaw. Yuck. Hope they can get it together considering how long the community has waited for them to open.

2022-04-18This place is extremely popular so be sure to get a reservation. Even with reservation we were delayed sitting due to a party staying extra long. I was more than impressed by how Management handled it stayed in communication and took really great care of us. We were celebrating a birthday so we went all out with cocktails and enjoying three courses. It was absolutely incredible every dish was better than the next, zero complaints. Please ask your server for recommendations and trust their guidance. The ambience is beautiful and I can’t wait to see it in the summer.

2022-02-14This place is the perfect place if you’re looking to splurge! My boyfriend and I went for a nice Valentine’s Day dinner and it was amazing. There are also definitely some options that are pretty affordable if you’re not looking to spend a lot (e.g. the pizza).Everything we had was delicious. The potato puffs and mushroom pizza were absolutely amazing. We weren’t planning to get dessert but ended up getting an espresso martini and the chocolate tart. OMG. Both were phenomenal. My boyfriend said the chocolate tart was the best dessert he’s ever had. I can’t recommend this place enough!

2022-03-06Stumbled upon this place when staying in Ann arbor. Very glad we did. All aspects of this restaurant were on point. From the menu to the staff and restaurant itself. They have a variety of dishes and the ones we picked did not disappoint. The Toro Tuna Tartar with the creme fraiche was dynamite. My duck breast had perfectly crispy skin and the balsamic Brussels were wonderful. The scallops were cooked to perfection. All around a great experience.

2022-02-15Nice atmosphere, good service, and fair prices. The cauliflower dish I got was simply sublime, with the right amount of heat and charr. Silly enough, my only complaint is actually on how ridiculously nice the bathroom towels are. They were the thickest, largest, fanciest towels I think Ive ever used in a restaurant. This is a complaint simply because of how wasteful it feels to use them. I am completely OK with an air dryer or simple towels if it means saving resources. Will return again and try one of their wood oven pizzas.

2021-12-21I had a work lunch at The boro with a few work partners on a weekday. The place was very nicely designed and modern atmosphere. Staffs were very polite and professional as well.I got a quiche and a pastry and the rest of the group got pizzas and an entree .Service was not the fastest but perhaps most people who come to places like this are not in a huge rush… there is a to go counter if you are in a hurry and want to try their food.Quiche was a decent size, nice and flaky crust and almond croissant was very good with a lot of almond paste inside.Over all I enjoyed the place and the food. Price is on the higher end but the service and experience was worth it, in my opinion.Just one thing I do wish they can do to help the experience be even better is to note what’s vegetarian and gluten free… the menu is very creative and unique so it was difficult for me to navigate with some dietary restrictions.

2022-07-09Simply the best breakfast I had in the USA (after 2.5 years in the country). Maybe we got lucky that we came when the place was a little slow (which is surprising in Saturday morning with these amazing breakfasts they offer), but the food was simply amazing, service was great and prices are perfectly fine for the quality offered (similar price level to Zola but better food and service).

2022-07-10We have been here twice. The second time when friends invited us and we should have said let’s just go somewhere else. The menu also has barely changed since a year ago.The good: the service was good. Jay was fabulously. The decor is beautiful. The bad: Pretty much everything else. Where do I start? The food is absolutely ordinary. Not sure how this restaurant is surviving in Ann Arbor. The food is very oily and not delicious. The potato puffs were terrible. The arugula salad sub par, the pizza very ordinary, scallops and blue crab dish - super oily with the chive oil or whatever the green stuff is. The desert or “their take on tiramisu” was preposterous. Tasted nothing like tiramisu and did not taste good either. Drinks were bad tasting. Especially the Hibiscane. I wonder if they taste things before they put it in the menu.My husband and I had heartburn after that tasteless yet oily food.Save your money and go elsewhere!!! The food and drink here are not very good.Pictures: oily scallops, meh pizza and supposed tiramisu.

2021-12-05Welcome to your new favorite restaurant in AA.My friend works here as a server and his raving excitement about this place lived up to and beyond my expectations. Sava has done it again with creating an exceptional mouth watering food experience while maintaining a fun, charming, and lovely atmosphere. From the plates, table setting, to the food. This place will wow your socks off. I ate foods I never knew existed nor could be paired so well that it melts in your mouth curating flavor sensations that goes beyond satisfying any foodies desires.P.S Atmosphere for the Boro is semi-formal /casual dinning.
