After having it jumped and taken to The Garage they ran diagnostics on it it and it turned out to be just a battery problem. I gave them the wrong information over the phone about the replacement part--its a powered mirror, not manual as I thought. My error caused quite an inconvenience to say the least. Comment: I took my car into The Garage for an oil change and maintenance checkup for the first time based off a recommendation from a friend, and had an excellent experience.Made an appointment, brought my car in, got the maintenance done (promptly!). They found that my radiator was in bad shape and needed replacement, providing photos so I could see the problem. The damage was from flying debris on the road I had encountered previously, and The Garage handled 90% of the communication with my insurance and ultimately made the entire radiator replacement super easy, even accommodating a week vacation where I wasnt able to bring my car back in.Essentially, everything was seamless from start to finish, great experience. In my case I was working mostly with Howard, he was amazing.

They are the preferred auto repair shop of this warranty company in SF but the maximum the warranty company covers is 115 usd/hour (and the garage price is over 200usd/hour). I don’t know how they became the preferred company, the preferred company should have an hourly rate that the warranty can coverI give 2 stars because they did solve my issue, but it cost me some money

Started going here 4-5 years ago because it was cheaper than the dealership, now literally everything I look up is about 40% over highest market estimates. Ive spent a lot of money here but never had a problem with the pricing until recently. I have more qualms but well leave it at that. This is a sad day for my Subaru that I need to find another trustworthy shop for some much needed but more appropriately priced upkeep.As a side note, I noticed the reviews here seem to have reset and a lot of these 5* reviews mention home doors and garage service which should cause anyone to think twice about where those reviews came from considering that is not the service given at this location...

Comment: Kyle Houston, and the highly trained and knowledgeable team of technicians at The Garage-SF have been providing me with the highest caliber of services (both customer, and technician services) since my very first visit which was when I had my totally inoperable 2009 Pontiac G8 GT transported from Maryland directly to their doorstep in 2018. My car had a plethora of problems due to excessive sun and heat damage (e.g., charging, starting, coolant, and evaporator systems problems; multiple faults stored in ECU; exploded tail lights, and detached trunk spoiler). You name it, my car had it. The Garage-SF literally resurrected it and Ive been coming here for routine maintenance and repair services ever since (most recently on 01/19/2022).The entire staff are professional, friendly, and welcoming. Kyle always patiently and thoroughly explains to me in detail the work thats been done on my car. And if there are services that my car requires but The Garage doesnt provide (e.g., tire replacement, and headliner repair), Kyle has always stirred me in the right direction to a high caliber business that does.The Garage-SF is honest and trustworthy, and their pricing is fair. I will continue to happily drive the 30 miles from Half Moon Bay to San Francisco to have my car serviced by The Garage-SF for the foreseeable future because I can drive away confidently knowing that I wont have to return until my next maintenance checkup is due. You can trust them to give a fair inspection report and the business even gave me an expected life left out of my wearing brake pads, tires etc and didn’t insist of premature replacements. I found them to be very trustworthy, reliable and friendly.The only concern I have right now is that after my cabin filter service in my last visit, the glove box light wont turn off even after the car was shut down, and all other lights are off. Something might have shorted the glove box light switch, and Im sure they will take care of this next week when they open for business. I will update the review after the resolution.

They won me over chasing a random check engine light that wouldnt go away that turned out to be a finicky ECU. Comment: My long-time mechanic retired, so I hopefully tried The Garage when the brake wear sensor came on in my 2916 Mini Cooper. Figured the pads were shot at 65K and expecting a $1500+ bill if new rotors were needed also, but no: the competent and honest mechanics at The Garage found a faulty brake sensor which they quickly replaced. That repair and a full 10K service with all filters replaced cost less at The Garage than the oil change at my last mechanic.Work was all professionally done, and on time. Great work, great value-- a rare feeling.UPDATE: One year later, in for regular maintenance on the Mini. The work--including full systems check, oil change, and brake fluid replacement--was done impeccably, the car was ready when promised that same day, and the total bill was less than I expected. Good work at a great price.

I was aware that on my vehicle some amount of fascia would have to be altered for it to fit correctly. I made the appointment with this in mind. When I dropped off my vehicle I mentioned this to the staff and before they started the work, they reached out to me to doubly check that I was okay with it. I told them I was and the work commenced. When I went to go pick up my vehicle, I had an image of a horror slash job done to my vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they had to barely cut anything and it was only visible if you crawl under the vehicle. The price of the job even came in under what they had quoted me by phone. I am very satisfied with the job they did.

My 2018 Volvo XC60 was up for regularly scheduled maintenance and after sourcing a handful of absurdly high quotes, I was lucky enough to come across The Garage. They understood my concerns of being surprised by an astronomical bill and talked me through every step of the way.They addressed the immediate necessary needs - oil change, tire rotation, etc. During their overall assessment, they uncovered an issue with my rear wiper and a full computer diagnostic was recommended. They reached out to get confirmation if I wanted to proceed and I approved. Upon an inconclusive testing result, they refused to charge me. We talked through what they would have to do to identify the problem in the future and they did not pressure me at all to pursue in the immediate.Its beyond refreshing and comforting to find a place that have the customers best interests at heart. Comment: I needed a battery, the old one (and it was old, 2006) died suddenly. They were very helpful. When I asked if I should get AAA to just jump the battery or have my car towed, they explained how the system works, that if the alternator works (which it did), I should be able to get down there ok (which I did). When I left the car, they did a free overall test of other problems. Found that I needed steering fluid and brake fluid -- immediately (which I had them do). They also advised I get hood struts, which, fortunately, they had on hand and put in. Overall, I was very pleased with their work and efficiency. I used to take my car to Roger/Melrose Motors, who retired and sold to The Garage. Fortunately, The Garage kept a lot of Rogers mechanics, who have been working on my car for years. Im very happy. Comment: Felt disrespected and overcharged. Inside door handle was broken along with the window controls. We took it in, hoping to get entire thing repaired. They look at it, tell us to wait while they get the parts. When they do, and we come back, they realized something was wrong with the electrical components, and would have to order even more parts. We had to press the guy for him to admit that they should have found this out the first time, initially he would not suggest any wrongdoing. I am well versed in electrical engineering and could tell right away the guy had no idea what he was talking about. In fact, I felt good about repairing the electronics myself, but we wanted the car door to feel more stable. So we wait again for a part to arrive. They proceed to just fix the electronics, which I could have done myself. Upon being asked why they could not fix the entire handle, they said they needed a certain part that was rare and expensive. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT BEFORE, NOR THAT WHAT THEY WERE FIXING WAS JUST THE ELECTRONICS. They should have told us from the start our options, instead of stringing us along for the most expensive outcome. The guy was rude and would not admit it could have been handled better. Lesson: bring friends who like cars to shop, to avoid getting ripped off.

Comment: I have taken my car there for several years. This place used to be good, but i took my 2011 Ford Escape there last week for its 95K service. I was asked when I needed it back, I said 2pm. The receptionist, Lily Caro, who later was identified on my paperwork as the service adviser, said alright. I assumed that meant, it would be ready on time. Well I was never called and I called them at 4:45 pm and was told it was ready. I was never given any information about what was found needing repairs, except 2 tires that would need replaced soon. I said alright. They used give you a call and let you know what needs servicing when they are working on the car. At pick up all she gave me was a receipt with the payment info on it and not much else. They used to give you a link to all the items inspected, checked, replaced, and would reiterate things that need to be fixed. I was never called about anything needing work. I asked about the link for what they did, and was told, I dont know, let me see. She was able to send the link to my email. When I could finally open the link, it listed several item, including:1. valve cover gasket: Rec to replace engine valve cover2. Front Suspension System:Left LCA bushings cracking/tearingRight LCA bushings cracking/tearingReplace control arm(s)3. Drive Axle Boots: seeping Right and Rear inner4. And a left blinker bulb not working.I was never told of any of these things. The worst sounding like, If the drive axle breaks, then the vehicle will not drive.I am not bringing my car back to them and will seek out a new mechanic. Something seems to have changed, and not for the better. This Lily person doesnt know anything about cars nor have any customer service.

Comment: I have taken my cars to The Garage for a few years now and my most recent experience was not a good one. I had taken my car in for a routine oil change and tire rotation. Prior to dropping off the car, I let them know that the Blind spot monitoring was malfunctioning and asked them to take a look at it. When I received the call that the car was ready for pickup, I was reassured that the technician had attempted on several occasions to test the blind spot monitoring and they found no issue with it. While on the phone I explained that the light on the dash was flashing and it had been happening since I last took it in when I got the battery replaced. Again, I was reassured that it was working cause he had just moved the car to the parking lot. When I arrived to pick up the car, it was noticed that the blind spot monitoring light was flashing on the dash and they had to then diagnose the issue and in the end I was informed that its a software issue and they are unable to fix the problem.This was a frustrating situation as I was reassured that the issue was resolved prior to me picking up the car and that the technician had attempted to replicate the problem with no success. It felt like they said they were unable to fix the issue as it was 30mins prior to the shop closing. I am not sure that I will continue bringing my car to the Garage in the future.

Comment: I went here after getting a bunch of outlandish quotes/pushy sales behavior at the SF Honda dealership, and Im so glad I did! Their quote was much more reasonable, they didnt suggest a bunch of unnecessary stuff, and they were super responsive/communicative. Ill be back for future repairs.

In person he guided me thru the process, answered concerns asked my priorities. The inspection costs were not prohibitive in any way nor were the labor costs. Comment: Toni at the front desk kept me updated on every step of my cars journey in their shop.Im currently driving across the country and this place was able to fit me in on the same day I went to them which was a HUGE convenience. Their prices were awesome and totally affordable. Ran a computer test free of charge, fixed some minor things, and took it next door to the auto shop to get a quote for my rear bumper without any hidden fees.Definitely recommend giving this place a look.

Couldnt be happier with my decision to make The Garage my go-to shop when my Lexus IS250 needs any sort of work. Staff is super friendly, and just as importantly, they are incredibly responsive to both emails and calls. They always call me before doing any work that I didnt anticipate (or will verify with me before doing any work if the labor costs are exceeding initial estimates). Comment: Ive been taking my 1994 Honda Del Sol to The Garage for many years. They consistently provide the very best possible service. They always go out of their way to save me money, but keep my car running at its best. This is getting more challenging every year as the car is now 21 yrs old with 265k miles on it! Yet the folks at The Garage have been able to keep it passing smog and running well. They do everything for me from regular maintenance to the big jobs like the timing belt. Recently they replaced the brake master cylinder which was failing. They also made some attempts to diagnose the fuse for brake-lights/horn/cruise control which was regularly blowing. As part of that diagnosis they replaced the brake pedal switch. They did not charge me for that work because it turned out not to be the problem but it would have been more work to remove the part than it was worth, so I got the new part at no cost. The next time I drove the car I found that something wasnt quite right with the brakes. I brought the car back in and they quickly found & fixed the issue, of course at no cost to me since the work is completely warrantied. While they had the car they put some more work into diagnosing the electrical issue, still at no cost to me. On top of providing quality service work on the car, they simply have the best customer service skills. They are great communicators - you never have to call them to find out whats going on. If they promised you a call, you get a call. They are always cheery, friendly and professional. I couldnt be happier and wont take my car anywhere else.

Comment: Our turn signal was constantly burning fuses so we thought we had a short somewhere. We asked them to look at it. Turns out our hazard fuse had gone too and that was causing the turn signal fuses to blow. They replaced the fuses and refused to charge anything for it!

Comment: I normally dont write review on mechanic shops. To me, most mechanics are there to upsell on things that you dont need in your car. Until I went to The Garage. I towed my car down to The Garage because it was the closest thing off the freeway. I had a previous mechanic look at my car and was told that I need to replace the alternator and the starter. I was greed with a smile and asked what has happened before the car broke down. They didnt assume that they know what was wrong right away and listen to what I was saying. I even told them that my previous mechanic told me it was the alternator and the starter and how much he would charge me. The person in the front desk told me that they will do an inspection and see whats wrong before they do anything. I was not in the best mood. I reply back with just change the alternator and the starter and let me know how much would that be. I went across the street to get a cup of coffee. By the time I came back the guy at the front desk told me that I dont need to replace the alternator or the starter, but need to replace a battery. Which they had in stock. I agreed with replacing the battery and told them that I will be back if its not the battery. 3 months has gone by and everything has been working great. I brought my other car down to be serviced and very impressed by the service they provided me. I have recommended my co-workers, family, and friends to The Garage and they have said the same thing about this place.

Comment: After hearing so many praises here on the Internet, I decided to try it out myself. I was slightly disappointed. The good things about them is they are VERY friendly and professional. However, when I made an appointment with them on the phone, they said that they could do a price estimate (itemize the parts and the labor cost, etc.) for me free of charge, and they will also do a complimentary inspection. However, when I got there, they told me that for diagnostic they will have to charge me for US$120, as it would take 1-2 hours to diagnose the problems, and without diagnostic, they can not come up with a price estimate. They did offer that they could do a free error code scanning for me, which Im thankful (my car is a 1993 Mercedes, which does NOT have OBDII system, meaning more trouble for them). As I had to rush back to work, I decided to just let them do the error code scanning (to see if it matches with my friends scanning), and NOT the $120 diagnostic. Im glad that I decided to do that, as later when their mechanic did the code scanning, their diagnostic system had trouble to communicate with my car computer. The mechanic said that either there is something wrong with my my car computer, or its a software problem with their diagnostic system. However, just few days ago my mechanic friend just did the code scanning for me and he was able to get the codes (so nothing was wrong with my car computer). Bottom line is, friendly and professional folks, but they might NOT have sufficient equipments for some specialty cars (like Mercedes made before 1995).
