The Greek in other cities:
Great before a game, after work, lunch, or out on the weekend. Food is solid, drinks are reasonably priced, and the regulars are some of the best in the city. Owned by an exceptional family that Ive gotten to know over the last few years. While the bar rendition of this location is still a relatively new establishment in Greektown, theyve set themselves up to be a staple of the community for many years to come.
The food and service was great. I ordered the Greek salad. Prompt service. I did feel like the waitress was kind of rushing me out which was kind of annoying while the football game was on but she was otherwise nice. The inside was clean and neat. Dine in or outside options.
My friends and I decided to visit this restaurant and bar after visiting the casino near by. The host was great with seating us, it was busy but seats were available fairly quickly. We got seated and our waitress was very kind; she took our drink orders along with food. We all tried the fish bowls, they were around $30-$35 each. It was filled with alcohol and was tasty! For food, I had the lamb chops with rice and peas along with steak bites. The lamb was really good; however, the peas and rice was not. The atmosphere is a bit loud and seating is packed. I would recommend this place for a casual outing where you can relax and laugh with friends.
It was disappointing. Chicken kabob was bland without seasoning. The fries were cold when my meal arrived. I pointed it out to the waiter and he apologized but didnt offer to replace them. Dip plate could have used more pita. Greek Salad was not an actual Greek salad like you get in Greece
Food and service was good, but when we got the bill, a 20% tip was added for a 2 person table? Never have seen this in my life and it perturbed me. I ate here alone in December and did not see that. The place was half empty on a Friday Night so I am not getting it. I often tip up to 30% anyway, but this type of tip should not be dictated. Bill was $65 so we are not talking a ton of money. She would have probably gotten a $20 because we had a good time, but I wasnt adding anything at that point, so she lost out on $7 due to a bad policy. If service is bad no tip is deserved and should be an option even though I never hardly do that
Do not go to this place if you have a food allergy. I ordered via phone and let the server know 3 times that I have a gluten allergy. This gluten allergy is not by choice, it causes me anaphylaxis. They confirmed that the chicken kabobs would be made without gluten. When I picked up the order I was extremely disappointed to see pita bread below the kabobs. Once I called the restaurant, they told me that they remembered that I had a gluten allergy, but that I should have looked at the menu and known that it comes with pita bread. They were extremely unapologetic. Terrible service. Terrible food.
I ordered the Gyros dinner, heavy spices, a little burnt & way too crispy (?). Terrible. I never had crispy Gyros. My wife ordered the Lamb shank which was okay. After a Terrible Lunch, a 20% gratuity is added on. The waitress did stop by to see if we needed anything (we were also the only ones in the restaurant) but 20%. This place is not worth going to, too expensive as well ($65. for lunch & we threw it out). Will not be going back.
An ABSOLUTE MUST !!!!!!! My daughter took me here for lunch and I had the chicken gyro with Greek fries. The food was delicious and the service was remarkable. My daughter had the lamb burger. It was AMAZING. We went back the next day and I got the lamb burger and she got the lamb gyro. Needless to say it was amazing the second time. I’m not a Detroit resident but I’m definitely going back and will make this my first stop.
Hospitality was excellent they treat everyone the same a old Greektown tradition they still follow it a two thumbs up to Harry and Nick old Olympia restaurant owners in Greektown they pretty much started that tradition treating everyone Hospitality when you come and Greektown in Detroit Michigan..
We decided to go out on a whim to downtown Detroit, our first night out in a year! We were originally going to Wahlburgers, but they were closed. So we walked around looking for a place to eat, and came across The Greek! We were welcomed inside immediately. We ordered food and it was amazing. It was honestly really good, the wedge cut fries were amazing. We were also surprised how quickly the food came out because they were really busy. Despite being busy, they were extremely attentive! We had a drink afterwards on the patio, and they were NOT watered down, which was another nice surprise. I wish I could remember the waitresses name, she was very friendly. A cool feature they have is the entire front window of the bar opens up completely, letting in the nice summer breeze. We were impressed, and I told my husband we would definitely be coming back sometime soon. I think it was the manager who was walking around too making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, that was nice to see. You could tell he took pride in his job and cared about the customers experience. Overall great place!
I got one of the rice, chicken and pepper wraps with fries. The food should have been hot, it was almost cold when I received it. It tasted ok.Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The bar tender (blue hair) was very rude and unfriendly, I noticed the same to other patrons. The waitress was nicer but was in a constant rush, it was not busy, and not much effort placed on customer care.As a first timer visiting Detroit I was not impressed, and would not eat here again, just my honest review.
Good location and nice place. Good service too. But food quantity is very little considering very high menu prices. I think it was by far the most expensive food Ive ever had for a guy whos used to spending top dollar for food. I feel cheated for sure. Im not going there again because I dont think theyll lower the prices. Use your own judgment.
Been here a few times and always enjoyed the food. However I just ordered pick up and the bill was higher than I expected. The Blonde waitress stated the menu needed to be updated on Google and I said, no its a different price on your actual website. She said very rudely, Thats my problem and walked away. I would of made the same order with the difference in price. Its just a better way of handling that. If you dont think having different prices on your website is a problem, theres still a better way to address customers.
Live down the road from here and the food and service is excellent. Come here 3 to 4 times a week and they are always on top of what the customer needs. Food is overall great, Greek salad is fresh and has an amazing dressing on it. Cool rooftop bar for the night and very clean recommend to anyone visiting to stop on by.
(Uber Eats delivery)the spanakopita is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I think I could LIVE on it!!The phyllo isnt homemade but I feel like if it was, a legion of Yiayias might burn this place down!!!Literally THE BEST spinach pie Ive ever had from a restaurant. No skimping on ANYTHING in the filling. Its fat, full of Feta, dill & DELICIOUS tender spinach. Not a single tough spinach stem in sight!Im honestly not sure what to do with myself now that I know I can get one just as good (BETTER?!?!) than my own homemade. What is my purpose in life now?!?! I guess its going to have to be to eat this Pita!!!Do not miss this dish!!!
Hello my husband and I visited The Greek yesterday night. The waistres A1 friendly professional. We the ordered the steak bites recommend by my daughter but it was just ok. We ordered Yiayias Pasta$16 Not a pasta fan but the sauce was excellent ...tried to get the recipe...no. My husbands dinner had a lot of chicken mine barely non. I told the waitress and she hooked me up with extra chicken & sauce. Nice Vibe.
Everything here was awesome. The servers were very nice and attentive, beer prices are reasonable, but unfortunately the food was horrible. The fries were cold and tasted like they were seasoned with sugar, the burger that I had was not worth the price. It was obvious that it was just a thin frozen meat patty, and the bun had a hint of sweetness that ruined it for me... Its a bummer because everyone was nice and I ,unfortunately, dont see myself coming back here unless its only for a couple drinks if everywhere else is crowded.
1st time going to this restaurant for a birthday party 🎁🎉 of 12Even though the rest of our party(Younger Generation❤️)Was extremely late the staff went ABOVE & BEYOND the call of duty to hold the tables for usThey didnt have to do that but they showed so much understanding of our predicament an Im so gratefulThe drinks, appetizers an food was absolutely deliciousVegetarian grape leaves were PHENOMENAL 👍***The food was so good before we could take a picture we devoured it all***
After a seemingly normal couple harrassed me and caused me to undergo a panic attack, being blatantly rude while I was having dinner there, the white, older, male manager was disrespectful towards me regarding the situation, even after I offered to leave and was trying to get a to go box so I could stop be marginalized against. The owner claimed to show the recorded tape to the police- that he said he called, but had no time to call, and for what reason?- that nobody hurt me, but when I said I would stay because I would like to see the tape, he told me to leave and that I was embarrassing myself. This was 4 in the afternoon, I was not even one drink in when this happened. The police never showed up because they were never called. This threat had everything to do with my age, gender, and skin color and nothing to do with what was happening in broad daylight. I can see this happening by exhaustion at night when the bars are open late, but I hope nobody else has to deal with this sort of prejudice in greek town or anywhere where customer service and public service should be upheld. Very saddened and disappointed by this experience.
Ordered the $28.00 New York Strip. Very thin cut, clearly had recently been frozen. Potatoes were not done. Steak was over cooked for medium. Dry and no flavor at all.Not trying to be overly dramatic, but the steak would have sucked it I only spent 10.00 on it. Dry, tasted like a freezer...Not enough A1 in the place to make it a good steak.Same steak youd get at Ryans but 18.00 more.Staff was nice. Drink was good.Shame the steak was terrible. Terrible and frankly insulting for 28.00
I placed a carry out of a chicken kabob and a side Greek salad. Got home and the chicken kabob was not in the container to my dismay and utter dissatisfaction! So I Go back to try to remedy the situation. The waitress deflects by reading off their the inaccurate order she took instead of acknowledging she wasn’t listening and took my order incorrectly. Talk about gaslighting! No one resolved the issue. I wasn’t offered a refund or any consolation for their inadequacy. I should of learned when I found plastic in a container of sloppily plated dips but, regrettably, I gave this place another chance. If a restaurant isn’t sanitary enough to ensure customers don’t swallow non-biodegradable material, of course attention to detail isn’t a priority. The Greek is Two time loser for me! The only thing that doesn’t lack mediocrity is the curb appeal. Don’t waste your money or time, especially in unnecessary Greektown traffic. This place will sully your expectations!
Excellent place to eat, get the meat platter !Update: went back again after visiting the auto show. A year later and just as good as I remembered! Ordered the Mixed Grille, the lamb chops were perfect. Spoke with Kristine the manager/owner this time. They have been in business over 30 yrs, started by her parents, now she has it. I hope they are around for another 30 years!
Eat there this weekend worst over price steak i ever had med well ment tuff and dry.. I Was so geeked to go there. Super sad at the quilty of the food for the crazy price steak dinner one steak app and 2 drinks 2 beers 150 buck sooooo not worth it think twice before heading to this place again .!!!!!!!!!!
The customer service is horrific! Owner WAS NOT WEARING A MASK and handing customers food, in the midst of a pandemic. Unprofessional on the phone and extremely rude. Online prices are not valid, as they charge you a greater amount at the store. They overcharge ON PURPOSE so check your receipt. Will not be returning to this establishment again.
Super Cool. Decor, vibe, service, quality is all great. The bartenders and the owner made us feel like we belonged. Mostly had craft cocktails created by Destiny, but the stuffed grape leaves we had to have as an appetizer tasted incredible. We need to come back for dinner and then stay late and dance.
Visited this spot on a Sunday afternoon and greatly appreciated the prompt and friendly service! I also enjoyed the unique, complex, and delicious signature cocktail called Good Ol Thyme! Literally having the cocktail glass covering smoked thyme as it was brought to my table before pouring the drink made for a very flavorful flare!
The food was ok, BUT, they automatically add 20% gratuity! When I asked about them adding it on for just two people, the server said we started that since COVID! So, diner beware! For this reason only, they have lost my business.I am a frontline healthcare professional and I understand the hardships. I have been dining out supporting restaurants. I had planned on leaving a more than generous tip, but by you adding on the gratuity really turned me off therefore cheating your employee. Since patrons are not used to this practice, maybe be the nice guy and point it out ahead of time.
We went on a late Sunday afternoon when no big events were happening in downtown Detroit. We had the place almost to ourselves. We started with two plates of saganaki, the flaming cheese, and some wings. Nice presentation and plenty for our party. For dinner I had a lamb stew. The lamb was very tender. Someone we know, who was sitting at the bar, said the Lamb Chops were the best around. Everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks. No dessert for us although we did slip in the bakery next door that had a lot of great pastries.
The drinks were burnt beyond bring enjoyable. The server made us feel as we were being rushed. She forgot my salad. The saganaki was litteraly microwaved brick of cheese. The spanakopita was 95% spinach. Not another flavor at all. We ordered aps. The server dropped and ran. We got no ap plates. Servers on their phones in plain view of guests.
A good greek/mediterranean restaurant with bar. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. He suggested choices from the menu for us based on the kinds of things we liked or wanted and it turned out perfectly. He also snagged me extra pickled turnips which I was so grateful for. Btw, one of the very few places in downtown Detroit I know of that serve pickled turnips. The food was excellent. And the drinks were average. Ill be going back next time Im in town.
Wasn’t pleasant to my friends or myself every waitress came to our table one of them kept mentioning they only had tequila shots for 24$ I said bring us one my friend said no way so thats the only kind of tequila you have the other waitress said we have 12$ shots we just ate an appetizer it was good had our shot an went we’re we felt welcome didn’t notice at first but than I did I personally will never go back again.
1) You cant see or hear anything. Its dark & the club next door is loud. 2) The food is just ok. My fries were on the crispy to burnt side. 3) Wait staff I had seemed very distracted. Overall, wasnt impressed. I miss the hole in the wall from before the remodel & name change. Food was ALWAYS good.
I ordered a Greek trio which was on lunch special , the quantity of the food for $20 was horrible. The pieces of moussaka and pastisio were so small it was ridiculous. The just spread out the rice and peas so it looked more full. I’m upset because I felt like I was given a kids meal. Don’t recommend this place go across the street it’s better .In response to the owner, the waitress should have told me that. $17.95 + tax is about $20. Either way that was still pricy for such a small quantity of food.
I LOVED it here! I usually go to the Parthenon when going to Greektown because I love their Saganaki, but after reading the reviews of the restaurant to see about the renovations I seen that it had went downhill before renovations, so I decided to try somewhere new. The service was AMAZING and the owner even came to greet me and my friend. The Saganaki was absolutely amazing and we both tried the Egg Burger with was off the charts! It is however a very tight space and you’re kind of sitting on top of the people next to you, but they accommodated that by making sure that they took dishes as soon as we were finished so we had room to eat! Overall really great experience and I am now making this my #1 place to go to for Greek food.
We had the saganaki and spanakopita as appetizers (we were a party of 4). The saganaki was delicious, the spanakopita okay but the pastry was too wet in my opinion. This was more quiche style than turnover style you get in some places. The flavor was great though. Then we shared the lamb stew and lamb chops, can’t remember what the 3rd dish was. It was all very flavorful and our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely go back here whenever in a Detroit again.
Sat down at 12:05Waitresses arrives at 12:14Order a regular coffee and water. Coffee was coffee, it was fine. Bill was $2.50 plus a tip.Order arrives at 12:26Not busy today. Cant understand how it took 10 minutes to bring a menu, and 10 more to bring a coffee.Certainly wont be ordering food here or returning. Normally give a couple chances, but there are plenty of places in Greektown to get coffee or food. No thanks.***Edit***Thank you for the response. I understand that its your policy to have guests check in, now that you have made that clear. I dont know if thats posted for patrons to know, though. If not, it could be beneficial. That can explain the wait for service, but 10+ minutes for coffee is a bit much. Ill update my review to mitigate the patio confusion.
I think theyre kinda racist towards black people. Been there twice & got the same treatment - no service.Sat there for 20 minutes while they served others. Wont be going a 3rd time. They dont deserve my hard-earned money!AFTER SEEING THAT THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING...I recently went back to the Greek & got the food (juicy hot wings) & good service that I had been expecting! Thank you.Thats why I had gone in previously. Now I know where I can get good wings, sports on the TVs & Red Stripe!!!
For those of you who are familiar with Greektown, The Greek is where the old Plaka was. They did wonders with the renovations and created a nice atmosphere. I ordered the salmon and it was excellently prepared. The prices were very reasonable. The service was friendly and very good. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. If I have any complaint is that they only have high tables with high chairs. I find the high chairs uncomfortable.
Met the owner coincidently the first time we went here because he was dining next to us! Very nice group. I had the Alcoholic Chai both visits and it was so good. The bartender gave me an extra shot of vodka the second time in case I thought it wasn’t strong enough, haha. I got a gyro both times but the second time we got the platter for two people so you get different kinds of meats instead of sides.I HIGHLY recommend gettting the huge platter of meat. They give you so much and I got to try meat I thought I didn’t like, but it was amazing! Also the Greek fries are super good. I love this place, so much so that I haven’t gotten around to trying another Greek restaurant, mostly because I don’t have to spend as much here.
Service was outstanding, super friendly Vinny waited on us. Got a chicken shwarma (no sauce and asked for a lemon on the side to squeeze into it) pairs amazingly well with a Laphroaig 10 year. Nice atmosphere with lots of seating. USB charging port under booth seats to, always a plus!
My wife Kathe and I decided to go to The Greek for dinner after attending the FIRST ROBOTICS WORLD championship at Cobo Hall. Our servers’ name was Ashley. She was awesome. Friendly, tentative and very personable. The food was delicious and for the money, the portions were large. I enjoyed the spinach pie appetizer with the Gyro entrée sandwich and my wife had the lamb chops and fries. We highly recommend going here for dinner and we definitely will be coming back again.
My rice pilaf had undercooked rice grains in it, as it was crunchy. I sent it back and the replacement meal was good. Also, the server automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill for a party of six, which was not disclosed anywhere on the bill or menu. We don’t plan to ever return, as there are many other better restaurants in Greektown.
This is our go to place for dinner everytime downtown for an evening out. We absolutely love the food and the wait staff have always been courteous, friendly, gracious and informative of the menu, eager to fulfill special reguest, and willing to engage in friendly conversation. Overall great food, great staff, great atmosphere, I always feel truly welcomed.as if I were family. We absolutely love The Greek
There are plenty of restaurant options in Greektown; we lucked into The Greek and were happy we did. We had the Mixed Grill for Two - a platter of every type of Greek meat you can think of, plus pita and tziatziki sauce. Service was good, food was great, we would come back, We were with friends in greektown and stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. The staff was great and the drinks were good. We would definitely stop in again.
If youre looking for Greek and modern food with a bar like feel, I definitely recommend you visit The Greek at Greektown. The food was a little pricey but who could blame them? Theyre at the center of a tourist hotspot? Theres a nightclub upstairs and plenty of seating inside. I ordered a nice bottle of wine to complement our food and nonetheless the taste was great and the staff was enjoyable. Parking isnt always easy to find but when its not freezing cold the walk is enjoyable!
Racist manager. Manager lied and told us that it was illegal to leave our food, and come to find out, no it it not. Paid for our food in full and then left.If you are a person of color do not go here at all. Please dont make it seem like we didnt pay for our food or even like there was more than a bite eaten. . There would have not been an issue about the food if the service and the manager want conscending and belittling. Your scare tactics of calling the police when I specifically tried to pay for my meal shows yours true colors.I stand by people of color not eating here. THe food may be good but the customer service is horrible.
Stayed at the greektown hotel right by greektown in Detroit. Decided since this place had a relatively high rating we’d check it out. Nice place, friendly staff but watch your hair and eyelashes because they are about the burn the place down when serving saganaki. Worst part is the saganaki is nasty. Tastes like cake or cake batter mixed with cheese. It’s weird. Curious if it’s because they are using SO much alcohol to light it on fire, might be changing the flavor. Besides that the pita bread served with the saganaki was very yeasty. My Greek boyfriend got the lamb dinner which was decent, he said about a 4 out of 5 and I got the gyro sandwich was was pretty decent as well. Probably will try another place on the strip next time honestly.
Deserves 10 stars - Meat platter included lamb chops - 10 stars. Spanakopita (spinach pie) - 10 stars. Tzatziki sauce - 10 stars. The whole place was reserved for a party of 60+ that had not arrived so we got the 2nd of 2 unreserved tables by front windows. Place livened up once the big party arrived making it a festive Greek restaurant experience. Even though we could not eat everything we still ordered the Kadaifi & baklava desert - 10 stars again. GREAT GREEK FOOD like my Yiayias used to make. Thank you.

2022-04-06Fantastic place! Staff were very attentive and quick and the food and drinks were on point! Nice unisex bathrooms, single serving as I call them. Old world charm inside, with cozy nooks and seating and dark wood so the mood is super chill. Had fish and chips and a giant aquarium 52 ounce drink. Wonderful to split with a friend. All different types of people in here so anyone should feel comfortable and welcome. Highly recommend. All of their drinks are amazing. What a wonderful server we had.

2022-08-13We had a mediocre experience here. The drinks come quickly and taste pretty good. The server was good. Our waiter was attentive. I had the Gin drink. We both ordered the yiayia pasta one with chicken and another with shrimp and salmon. The salmon was slightly over cooked and the shrimp was perfect. The sauce was just okay. We ordered Greek fries and they never came. The check includes a 20% tip. Personally, I think it is tasteless to do this for a party of 2. We sat in the middle of the restaurant and half of the time there was a very strong weed smell. I would not recommend or return here.

2022-01-28I got a to go order. Food was good. I got the wings, lamb chops with rice and peas. Only complaint is I will not get lamb chops again because they’re so small and not worth the price. Smalls lamb chops I’ve ever had.

Food always comes out fast and delicious! Please don’t change! Try the stop and smell the rosè sangria! Or a fish bowl drink!

2022-06-15We went there to grab a late meal but arrived there right after the kitchen closed. We decided to stay have a beer. Shortly after, John the manager came to our table with a humus plate that he put together for us knowing we were hungry. Awesome staff and awesome experience! Definitely going back!
