So this is my favorite little diner in Troy. I had their everything breakfast bowl and now Im hooked. Its hard to order anything else now that I have had this. If you like breakfast food, I have only to say that it wont disappoint. I have had their sandwiches before and they are huge and delicious! Check this place out!
When we came out we noticed the police was sitting on the other side of the parking lot. Everyone else pulled out they never moved, soon as we pulled out they the cop car followed. We were in two separate cars, he made it very noticeable that he ran our plates. Trying to find a reason to pull one of us over. It so happen that a vehicle was starred in the middle of the road so he had to stop and see what was going on with them. I was glad because I wasnt in the mood for being harassed by eating and driving in Troy while being black. 🤷🏽♀️
I didn’t eat here but everyones customer service here sucks. No one acknowledged me at the front until I said something about it. Then, this white waitress with light hair (maybe in her 40’s or 50’s) said she couldnt help me because all the waitresses are busy. She was very rude and everyone there should get fired! Never getting my money.
Just ordered carryout. They didnt give us the soup we ordered. We were going to go back to get the soup but the receipt is not itemized so theres no proof of what we ordered. The bags were tied closed when we picked up so we couldnt look in the bags to make sure everything was in there. My advice would be to make them open the bags so you can inspect your food. The cheeseburger we ordered medium-well was medium at best. I would also suggest itemized receipts to avoid any confusion.
It’s just gross work cafeteria food. I had a burger that was clearly frozen/pre-portioned patty and looked grey, my friends had pretzel sticks and “cheese”, a French dip, and artichoke dip which was flavorless. It’s seriously lower quality than bar food. Not sure why you’d even bother eating here, you’d get more flavor from a frozen TV dinner from Kroger.
They gave my pickup order to someone else and then the employee yelled that its not her problem instead of offering to remake it for me. What am I supposed to do if you give my order to someone else and you start screaming that it isn’t your problem. There was another kind man and woman who were trying to be nice and fulfill my order (I think) but the angry employee ripped any items they gave out of my hand and said that I already got mine. I have been coming here for the past 8 years but not anymore. This was an absurd and embarassing display at the restaurant and you should try to spend your money at establishments where the employees don’t make you feel like a villain for what is truthfully their error.
My girlfriend ordered the turkey dinner it was trash. It was off brand dollar store lunch meat with gravy on top. the water tasted like cardboard, the chili looked like a dog took a dump in the bowl and topped it with cheese and called that chili. food was so gross my girlfriend puked outside the restaurant, only thing that was OK was the sprite. This was pricey and unacceptable. Dont make the same mistake as we did choosing to eat here. 0/10
Staff was extremely rude and condescending when I picked up the order I placed via an online site, that the staff insisted was not an online order. When I attempted to explain to the person that where she said I ordered through is not what it was listed as online, she argued with me about it. I was simply trying to explain my confusion, should another patron have the same question/issue.The food is almost always on point, but the rudeness of the staff the other night leaves me not wanting to go there ever again!
Me and a friend order today and we got an item on the menu called Gyros. Its suppose to be “Slices of seasoned lamb and beef with onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce.” The meat if you would even call it that looked like these like frozen and then microwaved slices which all looked the same. Now we also got Onion Rings and those are not any better. I know you must be thinking. “How can you mess up Onion Rings?” Well the Onion Rings are basically these oil drenched soggy rings that taste like oily, overly salted, melted cream cheese textured things that happened to be in a circle and fell into batter. I believe they must truly salt their oil to get it to this extreme. Now finally I got a soup. It was alright not actually bad would recommend. But come on man let’s be honest how do you mess up soup. No one messes up soup. This place is not on a hill, and even if it was no one should put in the effort to come here.
We had a door dash order last night from this awesome place and the food was amazing! We got the French onion soup, American breakfast dish (comes with scrambled eggs, hash browns which I subbed for mashed potatoes, cheese, sliced up breakfast sausage and covered in gravy with a side of toast), The Hills Gourmet Mac and Cheese, a baked potato side that I asked them to make mashed potatoes which they were amazing and did for me(I just had a dental procedure and need soft foods) and drinks. The time to make it all was super fast, arrived warm, well packed, and delicious! This was our first time ordering from you all and we will definitely be making this one of our regular spots!
I bought a Reuben sandwich for St Patricks Day. The quality of the sandwich meat was terrific; however, I wish I would have asked for a side of thousand Island dressing because they didnt give me enough on the sandwich. I feel like the sauce makes the sandwich terrific. It just tasted like a corned beef and sauerkraut sandwich without the sauce.
I ordered biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs with cheddar and an orange juice to go. The oj cost 3.50 and almost certain it was expired. I didnt drink it. The eggs had a hair stuck in the cheese (beard hair) and the biscuits and gravy were decent (they earned the stars) I didnt enjoy the energy the waitress gave off. In all, I would not go back.
During the beginning of the restaurant lockdown, they let me have my adult beverage in a cup and that was cool. Dont know if it was circumstance cause of lockdown, but burger could have been better. Had margherita pizza sticks there recently and that was pretty tasty. Like sliced up calzone but cheesier. Recommend it. Large is a lot of food. Nice staff, good price. Could have something on tv besides cnn.
Ordered two salads, both were horrible, soggy, hardly any greens. Extremely small for 11 and 12 dollar salads. Greek had chicken which wasnt ordered, the Taco salad had shredded chicken that was disgusting and not edible. They looked like left overs from another customer. Highly recommend you AVOID this place.
Visited the city and wanted to try something new. Our server was Lisa and she was very nice and personal. I ordered the Michigan Cherry Salad (yum) and my beau had the crispy buffalo sandwich with fries. Everything was fresh, hot and crisp. The dining area was clean and I love the brown and wood decorum.
Love the food. Love the customer service. Wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. Great food at reasonable prices. Love that its 24 hours. Tried a lot different items on the menu and thus far I have not been disappointed with nothing Ive eaten! Nice chill spot where you dont need to dress up.
This place has great food & atmosphere & is open 24 hours.( I dont like their chicken noodle soup, though. Its not a standard recipe) I love all of their entrees.Especially their pasta dishes, they are ALL wonderful! As is their homemade Mashed Potatos & hot roast beef Sandwich! They have excellent Eggs Benedict & French Toast as well. The Staff treats you like family & they remember you when you come back. The place comes more to life in the late hours as it is one of the few late night places around. It feels like a home port to go to.
Food is very good. Atmosphere very nice. The waitresses? Terrible, always takes forever to come to you, food takes forever. Every time I come at night, expect to be here for over an hour just to get your order and food. Would rate 5 stars all day if it wasn’t for the bad service.
Less than a 1 star if it is possible. We just placed an order for $170.00 and it was a horrible mess. Not sure why a restaurant would want to not care about putting out such a disappointing 9 dinner order in the climate we are in. Doordarsh had to issue a large credit for the missing meals and the dinners that were made incorrectly. We will no longer be supporting this restaurant
My family has been coming here for years and never had a problem until recently. The food is good which us why its getting two stars. But its pricey for what youre getting. The food is typical diner stuff like a rams horn (which is what the place used to be) but just more money. The reason Ill NEVER go back is the service we just received. Every single waitress, even down to the manager on duty had an attitude. Our waitress didnt even greet us and was rude throughout the meal. We had to ask the manager for her to come to the table to take our order after sitting there waiting for 10 minutes. Also, on a random side note when I asked for ranch with my $12 sandwich she told me it would be a charge... Ive never heard of a restaurant doing this, sure at McDonalds maybe. We even asked if the place was under new ownership because of the way the servers were carrying themseleves, it isnt. Servers were walking are drinking and eating- it was horrible.
I havent been met with a bad experience yet and the bartender is quite the crafter. This place met with pizza sticks holds strong with its social setting and calming nature. The service is excellent and make every visit personal. There is no thought in my mind that others would not enjoy this pleasent late night or mid day dining.
Ive been to this restaurant many times and it has always been good. Ive especially loved the pizza sticks; however, I got normal pizza the other day and there was no sauce on it all. The pizza was pretty bad but the manager dealt with it very well and we were pleased.
The pizza sticks are a unique must have. I tried the ones with boneless chicken, fries, and mozzarella. They make their own ranch here and it is out of this world, hands down the best Ive ever had. The staff was friendly, and the manager was every bit as hard working as his staff. He was working alongside, leading perfectly by example. The fact that this place is 24/7 was pretty awesome in itself, but I will admit I was a bit cautious. Most 24/7 places have mediocre food, lets just be honest. Not Hills City Grille, the food is excellent, fresh ingredients, very clean taste. I recommend this place to everyone.
Good food. A little on the Expensive side for a burger, but they are very good. The fries and salad are also good. They are clean and the paper table clothes are fun to draw on. Its a quiet enough place to have a talk while eating without having to try and yell over a crowd.
All the bad reviews out there Ill confuse everyone with a good one. We made reservations but probably didnt need to. In at 9:00 am and could have left by 10. We hung around and talked until 11:30. They didnt seem too disenchanted by use camping at three tables. The food was decent for the price. I got the Super combo. I got hashbrowns and pancakes like the menu said. I liked the hashbrowns they were not bland and undercooked but just right. The bacon could have been better. The biscuits and gravy were tasty with a good amount of sausage mixed in. I got scrambled eggs. If you mess up scrambled eggs I question your cook. The pancakes were fluffy and good. Not rubbery and dry.Everyone got drink refills (coffee and water). I would go again and probably will for lunch soon.
I have passed this place many times. The competition next door has closed but the Hills still going strong. It is a little known fact that The Hills is open 24 hours. It has a small intimate feel. With a small bar stocked in the corner. The bartender was very friendly and easy to talk to. He recommended the Reuben sandwich. It was a large helping and was very filling. The bread was perfectly toasted. It was a great sandwich. I would recommend it if you go. Fries were pretty good as well. The atmosphere was quiet and homey. I liked it. I do not know of any other locations. Which kind of ads to its appeal.
First time customer last time customer. The only reason for the single star was the atmosphere. No greet staff or host, seating wasnt great for how inside was set up. Seemed cluttered when multiple familys were there. Servers need better training, recieved drinks but didnt get refills until our order came up. Which took forever and a day, If your hungry dont go there during dinner hours unless your a large party staff tends to forget about you. Ordered Monterey chicken and shrimp alfredo, Im still sick from alfredo the sauce tasted sour and expired, with a sugar after taste to try to hide it, the shrimp although plump were smothered in the sauce, the broccoli seemed fresh but again sauce ruined it and noodles were fine. Our server never came back to check on us after we took our first bites, had to flag her down even though her large party was next to us. returned the alfredo and got pancakes. Would not recommend this establishment.
We had written this place off. Because its so close to home and is open 24/7. We have stopped there on numerous occasions. The first time we went , it was for their Friday night prime rib special only to find out their meat supplier hadnt shown up that day. The next time we stopped, the restaurant was not busy, but they couldnt seat us right away because they didnt have any tables set up for two. They had numerous 4 tops, 6 tops and 8 tops. Apparently, the hostess didnt know how break down a table or that you could seat 2 people at a table for 4. We left, and had dinner elsewhere. Being gluttons for punishment we again went for prime rib. This time their meat supplier had shown up. Unfortunately, the meat supplier dropped off the lowest quality meat on the market. The meal was not edible. We left and had dinner elsewhere. The manager did take the prime rib off our bill. Its now been several years since weve been to the Hills City Grill. Obviously they have changed managers since our last visit. We stuck to lighter fare this time. I had a patty melt and my wife had salad. Finally a meal we could actually enjoy.Additionally, the service was fast and professional. Dont know if they still have ptime rib, but we may give that a try in the future.
It took a while for our pizza sticks to get made (40 minutes) and then when they did come out they where slightly burned. Add to that our server ghosted shortly after we ordered so I had to flag down someone else for assistance. To their credit the staff was nice but it didnt make up for the experience.
Absolutely terrible. My second visit was worst then the first. Was hoping for improvement. Not a chance. Service was atrocious. Waited almost 20 mins for our food. Server was disgruntled. Probably had a bad day. Even the hostess looked like she wished she was somewhere else. Grumpy, no smile, disheveled. To top it all the food was gross. Never again.
Anyone who doesnt think this is the coolest little Diner / restaurant in Detroit is crazy!Mimosa specials in the morning... Breakfast lunch and dinner served all day and by all day 24 hours :-)The food is great and the staff is awesome and Friendly!I definitely enjoy this place for what it is.... one of a kind!
Got a seat right away. Server was friendly. Ordered a ham and cheese omelette, the sumo breakfast, and a couple of pita wraps for a party of 4.Server asked if I wanted the mixed cheese for the omelette. I went with that and didnt find out until later that it was an extra dollar for that option. The server never mentioned that. The $1 upcharge isnt the issue. The issue is that it was pitched to me without letting me know. Also, with or without the$1 upcharge, it was very light on the cheese. The omelette was also significantly overcooked and very rubbery as a result. Terrible omelette. The sumo breakfast was actually quite good. The scrambled eggs were surprisingly good for restaurant eggs. The pancakes were also very good. Both chicken pitas were decent but really needed more chicken. It was skimped on like the cheese in the omelette. The iced tea was also very weak. I am sensing a theme of being skimpy here. Finally, the time that it took to get the meals to us was ridiculous. The server came over repeatedly to let us know it was on its way but never apologized for the wait. The restaurant was not full and this place has been around for quite some time. Not sure what the issue is in the kitchen but there certainly was one on this day. Many better and less expensive places for Sunday breakfast to go to.
Resturant sends order to me to deliver through doordash. I arrived to pick up the food Manager with short hair female tells me I cant just walk in. Confused considering they WANT ME TO DELIVER THEM A 90.00 ORDER. Watched the lady tell me and another dasher we cant come in the building. Will not take orders from the ruse staff ever again. Deiver your own food if you dont like doordash dont contract with them.
I was here about a year ago and the service was fine. Granted, I was the only customer there at the time since it was around 4am. Today, however, it felt like an entirely different place. When we walked in, the waitress at the host stand didnt even look up to greet us, she just mumbled something about somebody would be seating us in a minute. The host was nice enough, but our waitress was absolutely terrible. She seemed surprised that we were seated in herr section and was not friendly at all. She brought out our breakfast and forgot condiments. When I asked for ketchup she said yeah. And then when I asked for jelly I got a yep along with an eye roll. When she brought the bill, she just set it on the table and walked away. It really felt like we were inconveniencing her the whole time. It was filthy in there, too: lipstick on my coffees mug, dirty silverware, and half eaten food on the floor. Maybe they were short-staffed, who knows, but that doesnt excuse them from being rude. We left a tip only because our waitress looked to be about 8 1/2 months pregnant, but the tip was less than 10%.
I usually love this place! But alas no more! The evening staff always lacks luster. Colocked in at 52 minutes after seating to get asked anything! Feels unwelcoming! Wait staff no where to be found if they were found all 5 were slamed atending the other ONLY 3 tables. Im a regular here.. Well was.. And the wait staff was always the down fall unless its the early morning through lunch staff they rocked. But evening sucks so hard. Love the food but nothings worth a 52 minute wait after seating.
Id appreciate if the waitresses would tell me all the options thats not on the menu. I ordered what I saw was a breaded chicken sandwich and she brought me back a grilled chicken sandwich 😐. Only to tell me I needed to request breaded. Well if I knew I had options!! The food isnt usually bad, nor the service. Tonight was way off!
Very inviting place. Friendly staff. Variety of food, all day breakfast. It is open 24hrs !! I usually get home from out of town travel around 11p to 1am, and this is on the way to get a late, late night dinner or early, early breakfast :-) Very convenient. Just off of I-75.
Ate here by myself on my way home from work at 5:30am. Ordered breakfast. Id say average-above average compared to other little diners. I was the only customer in the place eating. Service was good but they were slow so I would hope so lol. My waitress was nice. Asked about something good to drink other then the usual beverages as I didnt feel like an orange juice or a pop and she said how about a smoothie? I said sure and got a strawberry smoothie and it was pretty good hit the spot actually... for my after work stop for a breakfast craving at 5am Id give it a 8/10 stars. Lost 2 stars because there wasnt anything above and beyond the normal expectations and you gotta have that to get a full 10/10 from me ;-) .... So thats my review. Peace out
Great staff, food is affordable and this place is open 24/7 serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day and night. P.S. its the only restaurant that is open in this area I mean the only one so stop in and eat up. Close to everything in Troy including its only minutes away from Somerset Collection Mall, and all the hotels.
I have had The Hills plenty of times in the past. My last visit there was horrible. The kitchen staff broke stuff in the back, were scaring each other and make a young lady scream so loud that the dining room heard it. My wife had ordered the Thursday Special a rack of ribs. It was tough, chewy and the pork was still red and pink. The waiter took it back, took it off the bill and let her order something else at discount. We opted for a burger and had it wrapped up to go. It was late ao we didnt look at it till the next day. Well low and behold the burger was nothing what she ordered, mushrooms were smothered all over the burger. I dont think we will be back anytime soon. Bring back the old Rams Horn that used to be located here.
This place has some pretty basic and unflavorful food. But what do you expect off the corner of a freeway in cookie cutter Troy? Theyre the only place open 24 hours around here. Restaurants in Troy must be allergic to money. The place was empty when we walked in, yet we couldnt find a single clean booth to sit in. I understand it might have been busy. But every booth and the seats were dirty af. Even the silverware was pretty bad. Didnt even bother using them. Their Sy Ginsburg corned beef sandwich is a special but it only comes with 2 slices of bread and some dry corned beef... No cheese, no pickles, nothing. Just that. How is that a special..? Only 2 waiters and they were overworked I think. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 cause I get it. Its not you guys. Its management. And youre the only place open at 3am.
Went to get coffee with husband and his cousin. They were so rude by saying “of course we have coffee!” And they said it with arrogance and no manners. I used to go here a lot with my friends! I’ll make sure to tell everyone how disrespectful the staff can be. Oh and the “coffee” that they claimed was great tasted like sugar water where they put it in a SODA cup. Learn some manners and how to treat all customers with kindness. Wish I coulda returned the sugar water but didn’t want to waste our time with mistreatment.
The first time I went here I got extremely sick from the food but the second time the food was good but the wait staff was overwhelmed and it was sort of sad that it was just basically one woman working. She did the best job she could do but obviously that was still not enough.
Caught about 6 AM to order some windows and the lady acted as if I was speaking a foreign language the customer service is not that great. If the girls would stop all the gossip and 10 to the customers as soon as you walk in this would be a awesome place I’m sure management or the owners have no idea that the trash that they hire is just what it is trash
So not worth how much it cost coupled with the service. I went at like 1 in the morning and theres a bartender who is apparently the only server. There was another lady who couldnt speak English and then a food/runner busser last. I guess someone was celebrating a birthday so shes obviously busy. She suggested some $10 peach drink to which I accept but say I wanted a chocolate martini afterword. She takes my order and talks me into an appetizer, and before my Rochester pasta. I finished the $10 so-not-worth-it drink when she rang in my app and waited for my next. After that, she didnt speak to me...App came, I ate. Pasta came. No silverware. She was putting in an order.... For a good 15 minutes. I ask her for silverware and she tells me to hold on. I serve. I feel like Im pretty understanding. But this. No. She yelled at one of the other girls about work stuff. I think she mostly kinda irked me because I am 80% sure she was either drinking or drugs. She kept ending everything she said with my friend. Ill be right back, my friend how we doing, my friend?. Every. time. She. spoke. To me. And she never offered to make another drink. I go eat at bars by myself a lot. I really felt like I was a burden to this chick
NOT a good value. I recommend going someplace else. I could handle the bitter OJ from concentrate in my $6 mimosa, the hollandaise sauce from powder mix, and lunch meat instead of Canadian bacon for my $7 Eggs Benedict - ALL OVER PRICED - but selling old nasty muffins was the last straw. Who takes a perfectly fresh and delicious muffin, freezes it, microwaves it to scolding, then charges $3? Ill come back if they start using fresh food.
I had an allergic reaction eating a pepperoni pizza...........I am allergic to seafood including anchovies. I believe there was some sort of cross contamination and the staff didnt care less!!! I didnt get even an Im sorry let alone that they would replace my meal but my allergy is life threatening!!!! They need to care & they need to READ every ingredient they use!!!! They have NO IDEA about anything!!! I also over heard a phone call from a customer who just left but lost something there. The 2 waitresses just held the phone and they told the customer it wasnt there! They didnt even look!!!! Just disappointed............if the owner was there Im sure he wouldnt put up with that!!!
I was looking forward to the pot roast dinner suggesting it to friends, and driving quite a distance to get there too. The platter arrived with something that mom use to call hash, a pile of roasted carrots mixed with shredded, stringy beef, not a piece of meat at all. The stringy mess should have been served on a bun with BBQ sauce at a cheaper price. It looked like someone in the kitchen scraped the left overs off the bottom of the pot. I complained and was offered a replacement BUT why try to pass that mess off as pot roast in the first place. It tasted good what there was of it, but visually a deceptive mess.
I love this place it’s opened 24HR, and everything tests good, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I don’t always have the best service experience, because some waitress are not that friendly not sure why!!! maybe because they work late night and they don’t like it, but overall it’s good to have place like that that you can go anytime you want
First visit ..ok we ordered take out. i ordered a chiabata turkey sandwich. it came on a pita not a chiabata. that was weird. i asked for no swiss but they put swiss. there was cheddar on it but it was the nasty cheese slices, not real cheddar. we also ordered the french dip and they didnt include the beef dip.

2022-06-08This place was good before Covid, but afterwards the service and quality of food has steadily declined. Today’s experience was abhorrent. I ordered a New York Strip (medium rare) but the first time I received it, the steak was very rare. I asked for it to be cooked more and the photo below is what I received. The steak was cooked and the two rare pieces are what I saw when I cut it open. I sent it back again and that last time it was completely over cooked. Not to mention, there were an abundance of fruit flies roaming around and landing on all the food. Pictured is one of the dead ones we were able to capture. Please do not come here, there are many other places in this area that are better.

2022-06-08Terrible service. The waitress literally spilled a glass of water on me as she was setting it on the table and blamed it on me, offering no apologies and instead complaining that more water got on her. I would give 0 stars if I could. Manager wasn’t much of a help and just shrugged. Also there were so many flies roaming around with some getting on food. I’m never returning.

2022-06-12Food and service was both amazing! Came in with my two children, vegetarian friendly, the veggie pizza stick even made my vegetarian 10yr old love veggies even more! Would definitely eat here again the next time Im in town. Something for everyone for sure.

2022-05-24The bbq chicken potato skins app was as expected, good. The crab cake avocado salad was overpriced and needed more greens or anything to add some crunch to it. This place is open hours that others are not so it stands out for that reason. The customer service is always good so the staff and consistency makes it a 4 ⭐️

2022-05-12I used to love coming here. The only reason I continue to go back is because everything is closed all the time later in the evening. The food is ok, but it is extremely expensive. Plus the ONLY waitress that is ever here is an older woman who is a little sassy and kind of off-putting. And last time we were here, she lost our credit card. So, my recommendation is to only go if you are starving to death.

2022-06-11The City Grill is a nice place to eat sometimes the cook over cooks the over easy eggs and blackens one side of the toast. They fix if you ask them to. For the wife and I it is about $25 with the tip for two big breakfasts. It is a diner after all. It is quiet and comfortable.

2018-02-11Good comfort food. Chocolate Fudge Brownie Skillet was phenomenal. Steak was good. Burgers are okay. Our waitress was Pam was very helpful and nice.
