The Kingsley Inn in Bloomfield Hills
Pros: great staff, heated indoor pool (its February,) clean room, great staff (worth mentioning twice) free WiFiCons: other than spotty AT&T cell reception which isnt the hotels fault, there are none that I can grade objectively. My personal dislike was the sleep number bed, didnt do good on my back, but like I said that was a personal thing. Otherwise this is a perfectly normal hotel.I checked in at 7pm with my kids because they wanted to go swimming, knowing this the gentleman at the counter gave me a room overlooking the pool.4 stars because it was good but there was nothing to raise it above and beyond which I feel a place needs to get that fifth star.
I stayed here for a week and it was absolutely delightful, the staff were helpful at all hours, the room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was easy eating at the Deli each morning and for dinner the restaurant across the street had a discount for everyone staying at the hotel. My biggest complaint would be that the shower took a while to heat up, a very minor complaint indeed.Would definitely recommend!
Our first room was horrible. There was white stains on our wood tables, the TV guide wasnt working, the air kept shutting off and once we completely shut everything off the heat kept turning on randomly. We finally called front desk and they transferred us to a suite. The room was a lot nicer. The air conditioner is motion sensored. So if your laying down for awhile the air wont kick on, or when your sleeping to it wouldnt turn on unless someone moved in front of the thermostat. Weirdest thing ever, also very annoying. They also gave us a breakfast voucher for the deli downstairs. We both got a $7 voucher, youd think that would get you a nice breakfast, no. Pancakes, 3 was $6, one was burnt. He ordered 2 eggs bacon, hash browns and toast $8. The eggs werent done, toast was like rubber barely toasted, bacon was dry and over done, looked and tasted like it was a week old. Worst breakfast ever, then the waitress was extremely rude. We thought we didnt have to bring our vouchers in and she treated us like we were trying to steal food. We brought the vouchers back to grab our food to go and she was shocked we came back. She said things under her breath and acted like she was doing us a favor by working there. Honey you work off tips, pick a different profession. She was an older lady as well, youd think she would understand how she makes money, I guess she doesnt care to make any. I also over heard her being ride to another table as well. So it wasnt just us. Funny thing is the hotel gave us the vouchers because of our crappy room and then the breakfast was up there on the worst part of the weekend. Didnt help for a better experience.
This is a terrible place to stay, the list of issues is way too long to list in this post. The staff is rude and disorganized, they gave us a key to someone elses room by mistake, the girl staying in the room was in shock when we barged in thinking it was our room. The sleep number bed was disabled by the hotel which made for a terrible night sleep. We were in town for a wedding and the shuttle bus from the hotel literally left us stranded. Stay here as your last resort, your car is probably more comfortable than the room!
Only one sleep bed worked in our room. The other was flat as a pancake and we couldnt get it to work. Phone was also glitchy. We had trouble dialing out. Got moved to another room and it only had one sleep number bed. The other was a hard mattress. Hot tub was broken. This hotel has potential but it seems neglected, dingy and old. It was quiet in our room, probably because the hotel was half empty. Theres no breakfast provided. Its expensive for what you get (or dont get). Wifi is terrible. Worked poorly half the time and the other half didnt work at all.
Here for meetings. There is a nice meeting area on the lower level with multiple rooms. Staff is attentive and addresses concerns as they arise.Meals are well done and tasty. Beverages are always replenished but unfortunately for me its Pepsi.Parking is a different bird though. Very unusual with little to no parking around the front where you enter for the meetings.
My stay at the Kingsley was very nice. The room, sheets, and towels were all clean. I did get stuck way in the back, but I am guessing that is because I booked the room on a travel site and didnt pay full price for the night, so its understandable. The only minus comes from no one working the desk when I went to check out. I walked in and stood at the desk for a couple minutes and it appeared as though no one was working so I put the keys in the desk and left, hoping no one decided to steal them and take everything out of the room leaving me to pay the bill.
Beds were older Sleep Number needs in our double room. They were very uncomfortable to sleep in with two people as they only had one adjustment, so they were essentially air mattresses you couldnt tailor the firmness on. Restaurant prices were prohibitive. Other than that, the rooms were clean and front desk personnel was great.
Check in was great, the common/public areas and rooms are up to date, but the beds... Theyre worn out sleep number beds that you can feel the frame of the bed around you on all 4 edges and if its not at the firmest you can feel the frame below you... I felt like I was sleeping on an over-inflated balloon or a wooden box (depending on the setting, we felt a mix of the two). The next day felt like I fell asleep on train tracks and was ran over. Also, no breakfast :(
I definitely wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone! The rooms were very outdated including phones that didnt work even after switching rooms. The beds were very uncomfortable!! The parking lot was very dark and not well lit. The customer service was mediocre at best. I cant imagine this hotel staying in business long unless they make some major changes including renovations!
Place seemed really nice based on the pictures on the website. Unfortunately those must have been taken 15 or 20 years ago. Very old place. Furniture looks like it came from the Brady Bunchs garage sale, and at least that old. Sheets are pilled and worn, pillows lumpy. Not sure what is in room or bed, but allergies just crazy when u woke up in the morning. Fan didnt work in room, and no fan in bathroom. Their so called modern weight room is a joke. Didnt use cardio equipment, but dumbells ancient, bench with foam showing from torn vinyl, scale broken, and cobwebs in the corners. No stability ball as shown in picture. Again think photo from a loong time ago. Front desk person extremely rude. No breakfast. This place is hugely overpriced. Should have stuck with a hotel chain we were familiar with. In fact left after first night and did that.
Wasnt bad. Had a horrible buzz that came from out a.c. unit so we called and with no problem moved us!! Noticed no security cameras at all which you could just walk right into the building without a key access ( ur supposed to use ur key) and it honestly just needs to be updated badly with being in Bloomfield! Overall it was good!
My first stay at the Kingsley was my 21 birthday , that was over thirty years ago sense then i have stayed at this hotel many times. I love this place i have use the president suit for partys for my children , i spent my wedding nitght there 1985 i remembered the door man that had work for the Kingsley for 50+ years so this hotel holds so many memories for me and my family, Im so looking forward to the Kingsley being brought back to its former glory and beyond i want to be the first to stay there when the hotel has completed the renovation. I dont know how long they keep guest information but i can verify all my stays at the Kingsley ! Lol i should have brought stock in the company!
Thought of giving then 2 stars fire how disappointed I was, but, I bumped it up to three because of its 4 Star charms. What was I disappointed in? Even though the website did not disclose this, the pool was closed down during the time we were there. That was the MAJOR reason why I chose that location; especially for my kids. They were also very disappointed.

2022-04-26The location is great if you dont know where to stay in Detroit. But unfortunately I had a pretty bad experience.I booked online for a room it was said to have a kind bed and sofa bed which there wasnt even a chair in the room. I would have never booked if it said there was no bed for my son and unfortunately we were running late so we didnt make it to the hotel till 11pm and they said they couldnt change my room, that I understand I did get there late, but then this is the part that makes me mad, I asked for extra blankets and pillows because obviously now I have to sleep on the floor and they say we dont really do that here.... Seriously? You can hand me cookies but cant change my room or even give me a extra pillow and blanket when it was YOUR fault. The hotel looked beautiful but unfortunately I guess I cant trust what the website says. Safe to say unfortunately next time Im in town I wont be staying here. I have never had a issues with other hotels and I travel a lot so it is upsetting because like I said it is beautiful, but they are not very accommodating at all.

2015-04-08Im being generous with the 2 stars.Upon arrival, my wife checked in not feeling very welcomed. Later on, all of our interaction with staff specifically at the front desk was simply rude. Instead of being treated like guests, it seems we were more of an inconvenience. Our room had a view 20 feet across from a common area. There was a balcony, we didnt use, but I might have in the evening hours if the light outside worked; the light switch simply did nothing.Other things that didnt work included another light oddly positioned between the TV and the closet. There was no switch in site, although the entry light worked. The bathroom lights were fine, but the exhaust fan had no switch; only a blank plate that I assume would have operated it.The hotels restaurant opens before 7 or 8AM, but closes at 3PM. Thats got to be a huge turn off for guests checking in, it was for us.I left my razor at home, having done this before, Ive always been able to get one without issue from housekeeping or the front desk. They didnt have any. None, in the entire building. We needed a couple extra wash towels the morning of check out, but the front desk informed us that housekeeping was on lunch, and theyd bring some when they returned. Three hours later, even walking past housekeeping several times, they never came, and upon check out never asked if we got them.Speaking of housekeeping, I sure hope they are so focused on cleaning other areas of the room, that it was easy to forget the coffeemaker, which when I checked, had a used coffee filter inside.Upon check out we werent even asked how our stay was over the three nights. For what its worth, its not a great hotel for younger kids, either. I get that many people prefer that; but in case you plan on bringing your younger children, be prepared that theres not many channels on the TV for kids, and though they said they have a pool we didnt make it there... come to think of it, I didnt even see the ice machine, or signs for one.I wont stay here again, I rather sleep in my car. Ive had better experiences with low rate hotels in cruddy towns than this, and better experiences in high end hotels with multiple large conventions during my unrelated stay.

2017-03-05The best were sleep number but wore out. Still fairly comfortable. I know this is not entirely the motels fault but we have the joy of staying with 2 different events in town. We dealt with loud kids and some drunk big kids. Did not get much sleep due to the noise. I suggested that maybe they should do even a walk through to make sure everything is on the up and up. Her response was not very sincere which was disappointing. Twice now we have dealt with loud guests. If you are a sound sleeper it truly is a decent place for the area and the money.

2016-05-24This is the third and LAST time we have stayed at this hotel. It is old and tired and needs UPDATING in the worst way. The furniture was bubbled on the wood. The lamp was torn and dirty. The bathtub has NO Grab bar or non slip stripes on the bottom. The lighting is awful and the bed did not work... The white linens where NOT clean... it was musty and old... we are done staying there. How can you have a hotel in that condition and expect people to pay top dollar is beyond me.

2016-05-07We stayed here because of a wedding. We reserved the junior suite. I loved the sleep number bed and staff was very friendly. other than that NOT impressed. For the money we paid I am very disappointed. The first thing I noticed was the big red stain next to the TV in the bedroom. I then went out on to the balcony to see cigarette butts all over that balcony and below on the ground.. Also the balcony sliding door does not lock. I looked below and the whole ground was littered with cigarette butts. Our view we were able to see the pool area but the windows were so filthy. It actually was disgusting. In the bathroom the ceiling in the shower was pealing and also the top of bathroom door was peeling.. The glass shelf above the sink one of the brackets were propped up by paper. The door stopper in the bathroom was also half unscrewed from the wall. Do I feel the stay was worth $150.00?? NO!!! I have read all the reviews and realize that supposedly it will be remodeling this year but it is no excuse for the issues in this room!

2016-11-29Couldnt figure out the heat. So it kept running and was pretty hot in the room. I had to have the windows open to cool down, and they had no screens. A microwave in the room would be nice. The sleep number beds were nice because hotel beds never seem to have the right firmness. Good location. Worth the low price.
