We went here for St Patricks Day breakfast. The employees were decorated and fun outfits and a place was definitely ready for celebrations. We were surprised at how busy it was but everybody seemed to be very comfortable in an eclectic seating arrangement with Unique Style chairs and tables. We ordered what they said was one of the most popular items on the menu.It was absolutely delicious
The Rough Draft is definitely the #1 spot to be if visiting Fenton. As soon as you walk in you feel warm, and welcoming energy surround you. As someone who doesnt drink often, I always get a little worried ordering drinks. Everything was made incredibly simple here though. The menu was laid out with the different spirit categories, so it was easy to find a drink based off what spirits you prefer. We came for drinks, but decided to order a hummus platter to go with it, and we were so glad we did! Probably the best hummus Ive ever had in my entire life, and that is saying a lot. Favorite drink of the night was the So Coco Cool, which was a creamy, and warm coffee with vodka, and whip cream. Every time I come to Fenton The Rough Draft wins me over.
The 2nd star was due to the burger being absolutely amazing. I went in on a Saturday evening and it was not busy. A few tables full and a half empty bar, but there were at least 5-6 bar and waitstaff working. I was worried when 2 younger female bartenders looked at me and pretended to be busy instead of greeting me. After a few minutes, the third and more mature looking one came over and was very friendly. I told her I’d never been there and showed an interest in the food and drink menu. She suggested a few things so I placed an order. Burger(The 9 3/4)was one of the best I’d had in a long time. Then it was completely downhill. After asking how the burger was, no one ever checked on me after that until it was time to pay the check. I wanted another beer but no one ever asked me. Fries were soggy but I don’t think the kitchen has a deep fryer, so almost expected it. I ordered a Togo item the same time as my burger and it didn’t come out until 10-15 minutes after I finished my burger. I noticed the three girls behind the bar either were playing on their phones, staring at a pot of coffee while it brewed, or were all talking to one male guest who came in that they all appeared to know. I don’t usually write reviews but this service was horrible and I feel the owners should know I would never feel like coming back here.
New York city prices with nothing special. The staff was nice the coffee was good but the food was only kind of okay. Only a few girls on the staff were allowed to talk to most customers and treated the others horribly making them stand back and do dishes and bus tables because they dont want to do it them self. Yes that is a quote being nice to customers just to turn around and be awful to new/young employees made me sick. 2 stars is being generous just another small business that took off because of hype and now has out of touch ownership that probably sees the floor once a month. Also I know Fenton is a well off area but the burgers are worth maybe $6 on the high end. Ive had better at Wendys.
I am very willing to update this review the next time I am in Fenton and try again.Pros - nice atmosphere.Cons - for my burger bagel thing ordered medium rare got well, picture posted. The French press was very underwhelming, didnt even come with a timer and beans tasted burnt.
We have been here a few times but nothing in the past 6 months. My wife and I decided to drop in for late lunch and glad we did. They have added graffiti to the walls, kinda cool and were not too busy. Had the homemade chips and sauce, the chips were good but the sauce was nothing to write home about, we would not get it again. Tried a chicken sandwich and it was good, my wife had the avocado bacon sandwich thing and she loved it.Worth the visit and we will be back. Lots of great options in Fenton and this one competes well.
I’m all for supporting local but $8.25 for this 16oz coffee latte is a lot. I did get an extra shot but even at Starbucks (which is expensive) I can get the 20oz latte with an extra shot for $6 and some change. There were no prices marked anywhere. When I asked the barista, he said a latte is 4.25. How I worked my way up to $8.25 by adding a single shot is beyond me.
Meh.... Snug if not crowded bar room feel with a small selection of beer and liquor. The menu is appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches. The service, at least on my short trip was mediocre. I can see stopping by for a quick bite or coffee at lunch. Maybe a beer or drink before dinner nearby, but I wouldnt spend time to eat. Its the new trendy thing on the block with a small menu youve seen everywhere else.
We were there on Thursday evening. The special was a draft beer and a burger from their menu for $12.00. I ordered a burger that was listed at $15.00. It was huge and spot on, the way it was cooked and toppings. I could only eat 1/2 the burger. Caitlin was our bartender. She did a great job! Highly recommend.
Great spot for vibe , food & drinksTried the nacho libre , spicy hot & goodThe dude which is a flatbread was very good like a pizza & charlie chaplinFor drinks we tried. Me, the smoking gun,& ruff weekend . Her , berry a friend , gumdrop buttons recommend all , def try something else they wont disappoint....
I love the Unique atmosphere of this place but I am sad to only give it one star. I have tried coming in here three times now, and the food. And service has been less than subpar every time. The waitress I had was nice but she did not know the menu. I had my two-year-old son with me and waited over 20 minutes for the hippie sandwich and some toast with peanut butter. When we finally got our food, the sandwich was missing quite a few ingredients, and when I was told they were out of avocado for my son’s sandwich, I was somehow able to get guacamole on mine, but no goat cheese or chives, Not to mention an extremely dirty plate and what seem to be a half order, if not smaller of fried potatoes. I was told the cook in the back was not only knew, but extremely rude to my waitress who felt the need to tell me this. All around just a very unpleasant experience, for the amount of money they are charging for their food it is just not worth it in the least bit. I hope they are able to turn it around because I really want to be able to come here and enjoy some coffee sometime
My wife and I really enjoy coming here for breakfast. It is always very clean and the staff take good care of you. The restrooms are always clean and attended to. Today we enjoyed the new chairs and coffee mugs. Give this place a try if your on the fence. Youll love it.
Unique idea, great menu but the food used to be better. The burgers got greasier about a year ago and they stopped making house-made chips. A bunch of my coworkers and myself used to order burgers regularly, but they arent as good anymore. The breakfast items are good and its a creative place still.
Never a complain. The #9 to the service and so many other options you csnt go wrong. Drink specials, food is amazing, spectacular customer service and an atmosphere for both dsy and night. A special place in Fenton and on many hearts. Who needs a chain restaurant when you have this gem? NOT ME!!!
Overall the place is really good and I enjoy their coffee, but one of the employees working there put in whole milk while I was looking at it and when I asked her if its almond milk, she said yes. Now I could be mistaken, but she did pause and was confused for a second when I asked her about it.I think it would be helpful if they can be honest.
One of our favorite hidden gems for ESPECIALLY for brunch. This place is so underrated! Kehlani (I apologize if I misspelled her name) is one of my favorite bartenders ever. She’s so efficient, polite, thorough and accommodating. We will definitely return as always. Great food great drinks and good prices for what you get. Thank you for being awesome and being here!
Amazing food and cocktails! Came here for the first time tonight and I was surprised at how big the portions are! Youll definitely leave with a full stomach. The fried pickles were massive and delicious, and they didnt skimp on the sandwiches either. My only complaint is that our server didnt check on us very often, but otherwise Id highly recommend this place!
Really great place! Stopped for breakfast while traveling and wish we lived closer. The loaded hash browns are AMAZING and the coffee was delicious. The staff was really friendly, the manager stopped and talked to us for a while; very enjoyable conversation. Not a quick in and out but definitely worth it.
What a shame, first timers and we probably are not going back. We did really enjoy our drinks and the food was good too. The burger was not cooked properly (ordered medium but got well done) but it did come out good nonetheless. I loved the smoking gun.The service quality was struggling. We were the only table in the place and I had to get up twice to ask for things. We were never asked if we enjoyed anything or felt that welcome. There was nothing going on to have problems with attention from the staff as again we were the ONLY table.Too many other places to go around here to have to deal with bad service.
Food is great but someone needs to educate the staff as too what good customer service is. They arent unfriendly, but this is the second time Ive been in for breakfast and you have to ask for everything. That is if you can even get their attention. Its almost like they dont want to look up and are preoccupied on their cell phones way too much. Please have your staff pay a little more attn to the customer. My first visit a couple of weeks ago the girl at the bar actually told a couple that were sitting at a table that when they we ready to order to come up to the bar. The problem with that is I was sitting there the whole time and most of the time she was standing at the bar looking at her cell phone. All Im saying is PLEASE, educate your staff and teach them what customer service is. At least have them act like they care. Im really wanting to like this place because the breakfast food is really good.
Super friendly staff, great food, and amazing drinks. I got the mission impizzable and it was super good! The walls have graffiti on them and its so cool and you can watch the cars outside drive by. Me and my dad love going there and lounging while looking at cars. I cant wait to go back again
Probably the best burger Ive had. Food and cocktails are always good here. If youre a beer drinker, it only has a few craft beers on tap. Its more of a coffee and cocktails place. Its usually really busy and the place is really small so we tend to go on off times. They also only serve smaller dishes like sandwiches and stuff, no traditional entrees.
Took an hour to get our food. A burger, sandwich and a salad. The salad looked pretty, but the chicken on it was like shoe leather. Couldn’t even cut it with a knife. The waitress said “well... they must be busy back there. Really??? That’s an excuse for bad food. I’ll Never go back again. $15 for romaine, strawberries and dried out chicken.
Cocktails are great, the beer selection is also pretty great, the coffee is good, and the food is definitely above average. It can definitely be a little pricey if you arent careful. The location is nice, very warm and welcoming with that urban/modern lighting and touch. My only real gripe with the Rough Draught is the service. It isnt terrible by any means, but every time Ive been here I find myself wishing that my server was more attentive at times.
If you want a delicious breakfast and coffee, this is the place! We had breakfast here a year ago, and my omelette was so good, and the attendant made me a hot curious george even though its a frozen drink. Today we went and got a dozen donuts and some coffee and they were so good. The cashier was really nice too.
As far as the food is concerned, it is a higher price but it is made with quality ingredients and tastes delicious. You cant go wrong eating there. The bar always features a good selection of craft beers on tap. The waitstaff is very welcoming and friendly. They often have live music. A great place to stop in and enjoy the atmosphere.
The food here is fantastic. It is a bit expensive for my price range personally but I have never regretted any purchase. The #9 on the breakfast menu is my go to.The atmosphere here is laid back and relaxed. The waitresses, baristas and bartenders are very friendly and personal. They constantly have a rotating craft beers. I enjoy trying all the new beers that come in, at the same time it can be a bummer when you’ve found something you love and it only lasts a short time.My only complaint is that they do not have outlets at the bar so I can work. Though, it’s probably a good thing because I’d likely spend too much money and gain quite a bit of weight.
Cute little corner bar with a interesting clash of decor. I had a tequila drink that was amazing, youre my boy blue, I think was what it was called. Fairly priced and friendly wait staff. I did feel a bit odd slamming an alcoholic drink in such close tight quarters with babies and small children though.
Stopped in for breakfast for first time. It was nice, quiet and very quaint. Unique breakfasts including build your own, I had the bagel with lox and it was delicious. I hear the have excellent burgers and I was tempted to ask if I could order one for breakfast but I was embarrassed.
Breakfast/brunch here is always good. The hashes are delicious. They also have great beer/flights and craft cocktail options (available even in the morning for the nightshifters). Service is great, can get a little crowded and slow at times, but the chill vibe makes up for it.
This place is awesome. The drinks are always excellent and you can get more than your classic cocktail here (plus, their selection of beer is unmatched). The food is always delicious. Ive gone for their burgers and sandwiches, which have never disappointed with. The only reason I rate it so low is the smell. Its not overwhelming when youre there, but every time Ive been there, I smell like a barbeque pit for a week afterward. It permiates everything; your clothes, your hair, your coats. So, BEWARE. I have to spray everything down with a fabric spray after Ive visited the Rough Draught. Id visit even more often if I didnt smell so bad every time I went.
Nice trendy little cafe, great location but terrible service. Took three pleads to finally get a cup of coffee...38 minutes later. Then restricted our menu at 11:50 after waiting for 40 minutes to get served. Plenty of staff just not well trained apparently. Little management training maybe? IdkLifes short and many choices nearby
Its a good spot if youre okay with paying for atmosphere. The problem is that there is better atmosphere for a few dollars more half a block away in every direction. The coffee may be phenomenal, but that wasnt what we were there for. Friendly staff, it seems like its made for first dates.
Don’t go on a Sunday morning. We were able to get a table right away, but waited 15 minutes for a server to greet us and take our drink orders. When they returned with our drinks, we ordered our food. We waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, including a breakfast sandwich, a poached egg dish, and two orders of hash browns.I don’t mind waiting for food if a restaurant is busy (and, it was at the time), but I do not appreciate being ignored. After taking our orders, the server did not return to our table until our food was ready. 45 minutes with zero follow-up. No checking to see if we wanted our drinks refilled, no acknowledgement of the time we’d spent waiting. Nothing. When the food did arrive, it was dropped off in a hurry. Again, the server didn’t acknowledge our wait, nor even asked if we wanted/needed anything else. My dish ended up being cold, but I was afraid to give it up because I wasn’t sure I’d ever see it again. The unfortunate part in all this is that the food was pretty good. The service just destroyed the whole meal for us.We’re low maintenance diners, but that doesn’t mean we should be ignored.
When you go in the place that has a very unique eclectic look. Unfortunately the coffee is served lukewarm. The margaritas at happy hour are very expensive for what you get. Although they are good in flavor. The food menu is very interesting. The quality is about average. The wait staff leaves a lot to be desired.
Always a good selection of craft beers, food is also very good. Best burgers in the county, their beef blend is very good, try e 9 3/4 Burger. Sorry had coffee and mixed drinks. Sometimes has musicians play. The wait for food and service can be a bit long, dont go if you are in a rush.
Went to Rough Draught on a weekday afternoon for a caffeine infusion and was pleasantly surprised by how good the brew was. I stuck around and got a burger on a whim. It was freaking amazing! They make the burgers themselves and you can taste it. Even the chili was on point! Keep up the good work. Ill be swinging by here anytime Im in town!
Their food is amazing and although I dont drink, they do have a really good selection of beer. The reason I gave them for stars and set of 5, its because when I come in for a takeout order it sometimes takes an extremely long time to get my food. I would suggest calling ahead if you have at a takeout order, at least 15 minutes maybe 20. Obviously I dont expect them to be fast food, but a bagel sandwich should not take 30 minutes to prepare
I’ve addressed a couple issues privately in a message on Facebook and saw it read but never received reply. Service has gone downhill but food so good I’ve given several chances. Today the owner actually responded to a fb review and basically doesn’t care. When an establishment doesn’t care and says “we are done here” to a customer what desire for business does this reflect? It’s heartbreaking that I’m given so many chances and yet seen no improvement. You can’t blame the customer that the waitress hasn’t come to your table and expect them to come again:(
My family and I have come here quite a few times recently! The food is wonderfull and the atmosphere is very unique. I have had 5 or 6 of there sandwiches and have never been let down. The food is definitely fresh and the staff is more than helpful. I would highly recommend this restaurant / bar!
Ive been a fan since their Cafe Aroma days - and have enjoyed following them to their new digs.I see their menu as a work in progress - but can always fall back on their salads (take out or eat in). Its in my neighborhood (both work and home), and enjoy taking both clients & friends there.Besides theres a definite plus in that theyre open till midnight Thurs-Sat. As I say, theyre in my neighborhood.
The only complaint I have of this restaurant is the amount of straws at my dinner table. I was not even asked, when brought my preliminary water, if I preferred straws. I just received one. What if i had a jaw problem and I couldnt drink out of straws? Would I waste a whole plastic straw and put it into the rivers of our planet? However, the pesto sandwich was exquisite. The guacamole? Better than my own, freshly made (because they ran out). Some of my peers, when asked what beverage they desired subsequent to the appearance of straw-laden waters, asked for a Coca-Cola. When this friend of mine received his syrup-filled carbonated beverage, yet appeared another straw! This is not necessary. My feedback is a simple question: Do all your customers need a straw for every drink? Do they need a straw at all? The answer is no.
Tonight was our first time in, drinks were good, food was ok. I think it was our waiters first day? This is VERY overpriced for what you get. Not to mention the online prices are cheaper than the actual prices. False advertising? We will pass in our next date night out.
The food isnt terrible but theres way better places just down the street from here. The thing thats the worst about this place is the service. You can sit anywhere but if nobody sees you walk in then dont expect drinks or anything for 10 minutes or more. Even if someone like the bartender does see you come in, the service still takes an eternity. Dont come here looking for a quick bite to eat, youll end up being here for an hour and a half or more. The 2nd time I went our waitress forgot to bring our food after we ordered it a long while prior, then she clocked out and left. The waitress that came in after her had no idea the other one had a table because she didnt tell her, so the kitchen had to make our food again since the old ones sat for 30 minutes getting cold.
Taco Tuesday. Out of beef. Waitress got order wrong. Did not know beers on draft names. Did not have beer list, coffee offerings and did not offer dessert. Slow getting food. Walked out with 10.00 bill, could have been a 30.00 bill. Good way to lose profits. Wont be back.
Been here 3 times. First time the service was a little slow but great good and drinks. 2nd time they messed up my drink and made it cold instead if hot. Oh well people mess up. 3rd time order was made correctly, a little slow but the barista was very personable and infill keep coming back for sure. I love the special coffee drinks like the rocking roca. I think thats what its called.
Stopped here on our way to a wedding in the area on a weekend. Saw they had coffee, food, and beer. Wife and I decided to check it out. Decent beer selection, good food, and a good place to stop in and get a coffee to go. Would go here if I had a boat on the lake and wanted to get a coffee.
Shame where its gone, it used to be a nice coffee shop, a place where families go after church, veterans and building tradesmen could get a better cup of joe then Tims place. Now higher prices, so so to I wish I wasnt here right now staff, and the parking is almost worse.Hipster with attitude, profit minded, customers? we need loyal customers?
Ust to be my son and I favorite spot to stop in town but last several times I’ve stopped in the service was very bad for example this time we spent about 12 min just ordering once ordered we waited 45 min for two breakfast sandwiches had to eventually get up and grab our own waters and silverware . When we finally had enough and asked to get going and a refund the owner spent time arguing with us vs trying to make it right . If the owner doesn’t care about the customer and experience then it’s clear as to why the staff dosent either . Hopefully they can swallow their pride and get it back together . However because of that I’d never return I like to give my hard earned money to restaurants that care about their customers and their experience and value first . A customer should never leave a place “attacked “ just make it right and move on
Ok coffee, ok enough staff but seemed annoyed with us, muffin was good. I have two children and one needs a highchair - there are no high chairs or diaper change station in restroom. I felt like I was pushed to get out quickly. Not family friendly.... my visit was Dec. 2017 so not sure if they have changed within six months.
Not sure why this place has gone so down hill the last couple months. Used to love coming here. Unique good food, drinks are decent, but the staff lately has ruined it for us. This isnt a review based on one visit, but more of the last 4 or 5 but heres a summary for my last trip:Busy night in fenton, other establishments were extremely busy so we ended up here for drinks and some food. Sat down and saw 3 employees working. One was right next to us, Im assuming her only job was to make coffee/carry out because she wouldnt even look up at us. Bartender came over about 5 minutes later and took our drink order, draft beer and a cocktail. When the 2nd drink was dropped off, the bartender dropped it off with her back to us so she could keep her conversation going with her coffee making coworker. I was prepared to order some food, but wasnt given the opportunity because they sat there and gossiped for about 10 minutes loud enough for us to hear their entire inappropriate conversation. About 10 minutes went by with no eye contact, no one asking how the drinks were, no one asking if we wanted to order any food. Once I raised my hand and spoke up to get their attention, we asked for our tab so we could cash out and get the heck out of there.Long story short, and yes Ive worked in the industry for 6 years, wait staff needs to do a better job, customers shouldnt feel like were waiting on them.
Worst service ever. The people working there were not friendly at all and they never acknowledged that we were even there, literally. Lol ...we were waiting for 15 min, still not even a single person came over . Two couples who came in AFTER us were waited on and still no one came over. After another 30 mins , we finally just left . Definitely not going there ever again. Disappointed on how unprofessional the waitresses were and how rude they were acting looking at us knowing we were sitting there for so long . Don’t recommend.
This is a neat little place. I think Im the target market (Early middle age, likes microbrews, enjoyed going to arcades and coffeeshops in the 80s and 90s.)The coffee is good, but not really what Id call third wave. If you want single origin coffee brewed in a chemex at exactly 205°, this isnt the place. On the other hand, if you want a place that has Atwater beer, food, and/or coffe thats better than large national chains, give it a try.I had a french press of one of the dark roasts. I think I would have preferred the medium-dark, but I have no complaints. They also have tea and chai.
Really cool spot in downtown Fenton that combines coffee and beer. They offer a bar bite menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, and chips. It features industrial decor, like a fire hydrant. We happened to play Sequence on a Saturday afternoon undisturbed. I wish there were more places like this to hang out in with friends.
Left with out getting 3 coffees and a muffin. I waited 10 minutes to order and another 20 minutes waiting for my order which never happened. They were serving people that came in 10 minutes after me. I watched 4 people walk out because of the wait. When I asked for a refund, they didnt even ask why. Poor service. Never will step foot in there again.
A friend and I originally went for coffee, but decided to have lunch after sitting and looking through the menu. There was an unreasonable wait for drinks, then we waited about an hour for food. It wasnt busy and people who arrived after us were served while we waited. We left without eating, and the staff wasnt apologetic for our wait. Very disappointing.
The coffee was literally so scorching hot that while my mouth was burning, I couldnt actually swallow, but I had to. When staff became aware, they did not apologize. They actually told me how they made it and it wasnt even prepared correctly. Happy Birthday to me. My tongue and the roof of my mouth are sincerely burned and I am in great pain. So if you choose to come here either skip the coffee or beware before you drink!
Theres definitely some tasty food here you cant go wrong with, along with an inviting and enjoyable industrial-themed ambience. Im sure youll find an alcoholic beverage you like too, but I was disappointed by the lack of variety in their draft beers and bourbons, especially for a place with a name like this.
The food was good but service is severely lacking. They were not overly busy when we were there for lunch but it took more than an hour to be served our food after placing the order. Two hours from the time we were seated to the time we were given our bill is way too long for a place like this. I dont anticipate them being in business for too long if service doesnt improve drastically.
Good beer. Which is of course the reason to go there. As for the food- everything was smoked on the menu, which I get because that is there thing. But it was very smokey. Some people will love it because it has a different and distinct flavor. Others will be overwhelmed by it.
I dont even know where to start...The service is slow and the employees are rude, it takes 15 minutes to get a coffee and bagel (and thats on a slow day), and they charge for ice. I have given this eatablishment many, many chances and all have been less than pleasant. I do not recommend this place!
Our waitress dropped off our food to the table behind us. After coming back a few minutes later, she brought the food to our table and told us They didnt touch it, I promise! (even though she wasnt there and didnt ask them), then bolted before we could say anything. Gross!

2022-05-11This place has the best staff! Super friendly and helpful with dietary restrictions! We went on a day with live music and the ambience was lovely! The sweet potato waffle fries served with maple garlic aioli were to die for! The pulled pork tacos with cabbage slaw were also phenomenal, couldnt stop eating them! The many drinks we had were well crafted and beautifully presented! You can come here for a quick drink or a casual hangout and walk away satisfied every time!

2022-06-19Such an amazing little place, found this a few days ago and I can definitely say that this place is amazing. I moved to Fenton and I didnt have a regular place to go for eating or drinking, this place had breakfast through dinner, amazing coffee, and they have a bar as well. This will definitely be a usual spot for me once I am fully in this area permanently. The wait staff are amazing, courteous, polite, they are fast, they always check on you, and they are really good with my service dog. Such a cute and amazing place that I am grateful that I found it, definitely will be a usual customer.

2022-02-28Unfortunate how poor the service is when the food actually tastes pretty good. Typically servers and bartenders are happy to see and interact with guests but for whatever reason majority of these were not. The female bartender in particular I watched and listened as she was talking about and giving mean looks to a customer she was helping when they turned away. The owners should perhaps not hire people that dont like interacting with people. Best of luck.

2019-12-03This is a cute bar/coffee shop. The hollandaise sauce is perfection. The salted caramel latte was super sweet but tasty. Service is a bit slow so if youre in a hurry just get take out. I will definitely be back!

2021-03-23The Rough Draught Coffee and Barroom in downtown Fenton is a unique place to grab a cup of coffee ☕️ or tea 🫖 to takeaway or to sit inside the restaurant and enjoy the views and ambiance. They make great breakfasts 🍳 and bagels 🥯 and they have nice personable employees. If coffee is not appealing, beer 🍺, mixed drinks 🥤 and wine 🍷 is also available. The Royal Draught Coffe and Barroom sits on the corner on Leeroy street and is open every day of the week. Free 🆓 WiFi is available.
