The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center in other cities:
Loved the prices and selection but the customer service left a little something to be desired. There was only 2 people in line ahead of us and it took nearly 20 minutes for us to get through. I ended up having to take my kids to the car while my partner waited in line to pay... we did enjoy some of our finds though!
I had a lot of bags of clothes neatly folded! Pulled up to drop off 5 bags.. 2 guys loading a Salvation Army truck didn’t even look my way. I saw a sign that said closedI asked if all were closed. They wouldn’t answer. My opinion they don’t need my stuff. Took it all and more to St. Ediths Catholic Church.
Liked the .10 book deal and I understand raising your prices but really a 2000% increase? You werent selling a lot of books/VHS to begin with this isnt going to help. All the DVD cases were priced and everyone one of them is empty. Update after looking around a bit more ALL the prices throughout the store went up. You have successfully lost another customer.
Whatever you are looking for here you will find it. Lots of selections in clothing for all sizes. They have mattresses and a great selection of furniture. More kitchenware and vases than you can even imagine. Its a great store. Beware of the fact that if you bring your spoyse they might fall asleep on a couch because you will want to give it all a second look!
7/2020: Gone way downhill since pandemic started. Waited 30 minutes in line when there was only me and a lady in line and cashiers were playing with their phones. Clothes were trash looking today and prices were high. Used to be a great store and slowly looking like Plymouth rd location...7/26/2021: changed the place around alot. Not much mens tshirts and the womens shirts section has lots of mens shirts scattered in. Go to Wixom instead
I didn’t catch his name but a guy with a beard and tattoos who worked there helped me find what I was looking for behind the counter and also went out of the way to find me later on in the store to bring me more of what I was looking for! So awesome, thank you so much you made my day, week, month, and beyond. Also Wionia (I believe was her name) at the register was so friendly and helpful. She was patient with our large order and even reminded us that we could get a student discount.Overall a great experience and I will definitely return despite not agreeing with the company’s ethics.
I went in the store the other day to find some old tee shirts for work and a monitor for a computer and found everything pretty much right away, but i will agree with most people that the prices are too high for used items. I ended up paying under $20 for everything, but only because of my student discount. Other than that, the staff was very polite and friendly, and it was a pleasurable experience.
This store is amazing! This is one of the better stores to go to. Huge selection of different items. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. Had a very good experience here. I bought two beds for my boys and was told that beds are very good quality and comfortable for the money. Very impressed with this store.
I used to love this store, im a single mom currently on disability with permanent nerve damage, so I depend on this store for household stuff and clothes. In the last 2 years the prices are higher than the actual name brand stores its donated to the poor. Its aweful that 29.00 are put on used shoes and purses. But today getting clothes for my 9yr old the color was tan for 1/2 off I spend alot of time picking out nice things just to be told that the prices are wrong at cashier because the clothes come from justice for girls and thats a good store expensive store and that the prices start at 6.99 and up that how they justified not allowing me to purchase them. Im the poor and the tan tags were 3.99 and 4.99 still not allowed to get them because they claim the tags were wrong. Im still going on fridays and Saturdays for 5 for 5 but if they wont honor the prices its a waste of time. This is donated stuff and the prices are going up higher than the actual store. Im going to keep watching till they change their ways. Because this store is in a well to do neighbor hood and people donates alot of better things shouldnt mean the people that work their get to put prices higher than what the stuff actually cost. Hope they change back to being a great place for the poor.
This is a pretty big store. The clothes are fairly well organized (by color) and there are fitting rooms BUT they have a big tendency to overprice certain brands...and it seems sometimes like they are only looking at the tag, ignoring things like stains or holes. If anyone is looking for Lularoe leggings, there are a TON (at the moment) for $4.99, look both in the athletic pants (solid colors) and casual pants (fun prints). They often price them more like $9, but they have a lot now so they lowered the prices. This store usually has a large amount of furniture, not too many appliances though. The books are not really organized. This is often a good place to get housewares.
Great. Clean store, big location, nice selection, always treasures to be found! Most of the store is laid out well with plenty of room to maneuver carts or strollers, with the exception of the kids area, and a couple other places are tight. But overall wide open, organized, and the staff is very pleasant.
This store was a fantastic place when it first opened several years ago-it draws its donations from a wealthy area, and I bought all sorts of high level mens clothes from Places like Brooks Bros, RL, etc.-my closets are jammed with stuff that often still had the tags on it. Now, the word has gotten out, and the place is jammed every day with people from far and wide, and lots of eBay pickers-the rare nice item is gone the second its wheeled out on the racks. I still go to check it out once a week.edit: I was just there tonight-this store has changed from a clean, bright place with top-quality items, to a dirty, messy, sloppy dump-its NOTHING like it used to be.
I’m here today and I’m absolutely shocked I will never be returning to this location AGAIN! Yellow tags were 75% off today and tan 25% I was at the children’s clothes with another shopper shocked that 2 workers were pulling all the yellow and tag tagged items off the racks into the cart collecting them. That is absolutely ridiculous how terrible! This location will absolutely never ever get my business again. They should be ashamed giving a deal and then literally taking it away! No wonder when it’s colored tagged days you can’t fins anything that color! I am absolutely shocked this is suppose to be a family donation store to help those and this this absolutely ridiculous!
Best selection of clothing at any Sal Army. Friday and Saturday are 5 for $5 clothing sale days. Pro tip Thursday selection is the best, you get half off the tag color of the week.Huge kids section. Womens clothes are top notch. Thursday evenings is ladies night. 25% off all clothing jewelry and accessories. I work here BECAUSE I was shopping here so much. 😂
Its so big....you will find something every time...great prices too. Great for organizing your closets or house....baskets and organizing things are a steal. Today I found a Bebe leather mini skirt and a banana republic tank to go with....with tags:D less then $20 for the outfit
Just the fact that its in an area that is average household income they over price items that its own community gave to them. A used Woolworth jacket 39 bucks it was only 60 brand new. Get your head out of your a$$ this is a used clothing store not full blown retail center. Some items are fair priced. Most are not.
I like this store, however I go there because i’m not rolling in dough. When I buy stuff that’s marked down ex: xmas items, I never get all my items discounted. Last visit i bought a picture that was marked $2.99, the cashier said it was marked incorrectly and charged me $5.99. How would I know that? Lo and behold went there yesterday and the same pic was priced $2.99. Might not seem much to SA but its alot for me
At one time this was my happy place! I moved away nine months ago and came back today to visit my old thrift store stomping ground, and was sadly disappointed. From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted with literally death metal/Christian? Music… To the fact that I could not get the cashier or the management to understand that if youre doubling something Basic math is something you should at least have a grasp on. As I left the store I handed my punchcard to another patron and said that I will not be back to the Salvation Army ever. It truly is a sad day, that my happy place is now my used to be happy place.
It has a good selection, good prices, etc. It IS a Salvation Army, so you will have to hunt for specific items a bit more than at traditional clothing stores, and will occasionally have a harder time finding specific things, but that said, well worth the stop. If youre willing to look around a bit, youll most assuredly find something.
I love this Salvation Army because they always have something I want, even when Im not looking to buy anything. I mostly buy cds and dvds (which, by serendipity, are heavily discounted at times), but they have a very good selection of clothes too. I dont always care for the customer service, having to wait in long lines or the repetitious music on the overhead, but this is the best SA thats near me that Ive been to.
In winter of 17 or 18, I found red wool coat never worn and donated my winter coat, but I am still looking for new buttons to change from gold to black. Unfortunately, a last minute purchase and too heavy and a bit too large in shoulder area and I rarely wear. However, I also found many great music CDs, a few movie DVDs (I have since given away both as gifts), a few books and other things that were great Christmas gifts that year. I have not been back since, other than to donate clothes and small household items.
I love this place, the employees here are very friendly and helpful; my biggest issue is the people who show up here to shop. They are the biggest child-adults I have ever seen. They constantly complain about the prices, which are absolutely reasonable, and the quality of the items.
Recently called this store seeking a used portable DVD player for my grandpa to use while he is hospitalized (he loves his old Westerns). A young associate or volunteer answered who seemed very rude and too busy for me. He refused to check the store to simply advise me if they had any in stock or not. Sir this is a thrift store, we dont stock items... Sorry to say, Id rather spend my money at Wal-Mart than receive that service.
This Salvation Army has a lot of selection and can get in higher quality products. My two issues with it is that 1) their prices are usually high, and sometimes flat out ridiculous and 2) they use packaging tape that rips off paint on delicate items and is extremely difficult to remove. They have night owl specials and different discounts open. Thursday students get 25% off
Normally I have a good experience at this place but today when I went to drop things off the man who assisted me seem to be upset because I could not tell him what was in the bag that I was dropping off. The bag had a box of shoes and I never been worn and some other tops but other than that I could not tell him. He took the bag and I believe put it in the trash. I’m very upset about this and I may not go back to this particular Salvation Army donation store.
Being a thrift store that offeres a large variety of items (more than Goodwill, persumably) at dirt cheap prices, this Salvation Army store may seem like a decent stop to shop. Unfortunately, for me, the experience was less than what I had expected. For starters, this location is housed inside a former Farmer Jack supermarket; while some things were done in order to get the store converted, various defects (water damage to the ceilings, scuffed, dirty floors (some with metal plates in them)) kept the store from achieving the appeal of being in a welcoming, warm environment. The quality of items will range, but for some items I saw (television sets with static appealing slightly on the media shown, toys out of reach for the kiddies), they were in a dilapidated state.Customer service wasnt a whole lot better. There was a long wait time to check-out (persumably due to a shortage of staff), and I wasnt helped out in looking for anything. The staff themselves are nice overall, but there probably isnt too much to compliment about. All in all, while this might be an okay destination to find something for lower than what you would pay for elsewhere, you would be better off taking thrift store business to the Goodwill store in Canton Township. I would not be interested in returning here any time soon.
Rediculus. Who is gana pay. 49 9o for a pair of shoes. That brand new. Are 29 9o. It sadens me. Actually. Im puzzeled i work rite up the street from the store and 2 yrars ago stuff was within reason i went in ther. Ther was a 100 pair of work boots that still had a little life left in them. But they wanted 89 99 for them so they wher ther for. About three monthes. I asked the manager if i could offer 45 dollars. He laughed and said if they dont sell i have to throw them away. I looked at him pusseled. Throw them away i replied. E said yes. So i said let me get this straight. You will not take 45. For them. But throw them away. Nice salvation. Army. Nice.
I used to work here. I dont care if youre Christian or whatever, but behind the scenes in the back, this company is truly evil. They yell and scream at employees when they fail to meet the impossible and unnecessary quotas they set every day. It doesnt even make sense why they need 90 + electronics per day. The women in the back are treated like second class citizens, and are replaced as if they are nothing. Manager Dawn, I hope you are reading this, you can go to the most bottom pit of the underworld and burn for all I care; you clearly deserve it after how terrible you treated everyone.
Their items are WAY too expensive for a thift store. You will see the orginal tag on something for example.. the original retail price on something of $19.99.. and they are asking $16.99 for it. Some items are priced MORE than what they were bought for brand new. Their nic nacs are just way too over priced. I also noticed too a few times that there were items that had other thrift store prices on them for way cheaper. For instance, one item I saw had another thrift store price of $1.99 on it. THEY wanted $12 for the same thing priced as $1.99 elsewear. Who ever prices this crap needs to not be greedy and realize that this stuff is FREE to them.
They want too much for pretty much everything, I know it’s canton but it’s still supposed to be a thrift store. I wanted to look at some things behind the sacred counter: and I waited like fifteen minutes for so rivera to come help me, they never came. I’ll never return.
It started very well ,but know they have a very poor manager .The staff is very un proffional Allways talking about each othernot taking care of customer ,there doing shopping them self ,there is one Susan works in the morning /days is very rud .there prices also got very high not like good well they need a new menmanager like the one that was there before not this young blond that thinks she is aboveus and better need a lot of anger management

2022-04-04Very good for finding odds and ends , household and kitchen ware, some items are bit pricey but the you find other items that are a real deal, you have to take your time and look around. I usually find what I’m looking for. Good selection of clothes. Sometimes they have a lot to chose from in furniture. Well worth coming out to browse around.

2022-08-05Horrible management with terrible customer service. If cashier forgets to put your PAID for items in your bag they will not let you come back to get them as they lost them, even though it’s completely their fault. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

2022-03-17Every time I’ve dropped off donations at this location, the staff have been rude &/or unfriendly. The only reason I can think of is that they’re not treated well by the management. (It trickles down.) I’m doing the Salvation Army a favor since the big wigs of this corporation are doing quite well off the things I (& many others) have paid good money for in the past. Do better Salvation Army.

2022-06-23Greedy. Completely overpriced. Golf clubs behind the counter for $50+ each. Rock band drums for $40. Clothing pieces ranging from $9-$15. Remember, they get this stuff for FREE.

2022-08-20We have donated a lot over the years to many different thrift stores in different states. This was the worst donation experience we have had. Felt judges and treated poorly. Clearly, the donation team is not interested in accepting or offloading loads larger than a couple bags in the trunk of a car.

2019-03-11The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center on Joy Road is a very large concern. They have a wide variety of clothing in good condition. The prices are a little high for some of the items. I would be careful about the furniture from this location. It’s not that it’s bad I would just ensure it’s cleaned before you bring it in the house. They have limited reading materials, which is a surprise because the place is so big. They have lots of older records and tapes and things like that.I enjoy their knick-knack area because it is sorted by color. It’s always an artistic experience to wander around in that section. The prices, though, again, are a little for a thrift store. Electronics is limited. The service is fine. What they do have in abundance and quality are bicycles. If you’re looking for a child’s bicycle or and adult’s then this is the place to start shopping. The prices on the bikes are generally reasonable.

2022-04-26I shop here a lot and I donate even more. It has gotten much worse though. Today I waited over an hour just to drop off a trunk full of stuff because they are now going through everything you drop off to make sure its not junk. It takes forever. Then when I got to the front they dont want you getting out of your car. Last time I didnt and they took things out of my trunk I did not want to donate so I have to get out to show them which stuff is the stuff to be donated and they got rude with me about it. I dont give to Goodwill because they are so greedy and overpriced but now Im not happy with this place so I need to find a new place to donate

2022-02-10If I could give a -1 as a rating, I would. There was a reason why I stopped going to this dump yet I thought Id give it another try.BIG MISTAKE !!!!!I am incredibly AMAZED at the attitude I received from Karla as she rung up my sales.Today, February 10th, was a discount to teachers /educators etc. I cleared it first, with another employee to verify before I stood in line. They confirmed it. I stood in line & Karla rung up my sales and she argued & told me over & over that I was WRONG & I needed PROOF. I showed her my staff photo on line and work emails proving I worked in the Religious Education department at a local church. She finally said, Im done with this discussion and I will give it to you THIS time, but thats it!Who the HELL does she think she is??? What a RUDE & ANGRY individual. If you hate your job honey, then leave. Dont turn your negativity on others. Find another profession sweetheart. To make matters worse, when I got to my car I noticed she never even gave me the discount. This Salvation Army STINKS!!!!!Way to go Karla.....not only are you rude, youre an idiot to boot.

2022-07-09Website says they are open, however they apparently do not accept donations during store hours! Drove a long way to find out they open but won’t take my donations!
