Many years ago- this used to be the Polar Bear- unique since they sell cold beer HA. I dont go here for the beer though- they do have good food specials which will sure attract the attention of newbies and also return customers-As of August 8th 2020 though, Im going to have to edit my review (from 5 to 2), I was told yes they offer free birthday meals when I asked there, this waitress stated they do not- the servings were mediocre at best, not bad food although I had better. She said happy birthday but that was it, no deal, no discount, no free meal- not sure if the owner is reading this. It was a little disappointing. I may not come back.Update: 6/19/21 The owner responded to my letter and he offered me a 15 dollar certificate. Used it that day and very much improved. Food was good and they now have tater tots as sides, very crispy and cooked just right. Very impressive. From 2 to 4 stars!

This was my first time at this bar and it was great for a bar! We had a cheeseburger and a slim Jim sandwich and both were fantastic. The hamburger is HUGE— like 1/3 pound huge. The slim Jim was equally large. The ham was fried perfectly, with some nice crispy edges. My only complaint is that the Swiss cheese was the kind wrapped in plastic— not real Swiss cheese. But if they just upgraded to real swiss, this food would’ve been impeccable for bar food. Although the fries were nice and big, they were a little soggy, which I couldn’t figure out because they were browned, but not crispy at all. Maybe the oil wasn’t hot enough? Not sure. Beer was super cold! The decor is nice. Looks like it’s a recent remodel. Didn’t look like a dive in the inside at all. Good stop for lunch for sure.

Used to come here all the time when it was the Polar Bear. Moved and just recently stopped in after a few years. Happy to say same bar with the same people on the bar stools. 2 pool tables. Above average bar food, friendly staff and outdoor seating. You can take your drinks outside when you are smoking on the patio.
The service was bad ppl were nice I had to send stake back 3 times potatoes back 2 times they brought the stake back 3 times with out things being right. Example I ordered steak and shrimp mushrooms and onions. It came with no 🦐 the first time then the meat was so rare they literally knocked the horns off its head and put it on my plate. I dont know if I went on a bad night or what but for my first experience it was all bad
Best damn Friday fish fry in southeast Michigan period! You might have to wait a little while for it because its so good, but great, more beer for you. You can trust this review because Im fat and I know great food when I eat it!
Love their fish fry on Fridays. The portions are very generous. Now you can get cod fish baked. Its really good!!
My experience at Thompsons Bar & Grill? My girlfriend, her mother, and I stopped for a quick meal (we had about an hour before needing to be back on the road for a concert). We were told to seat ourselves in a booth, where we waited ten minutes before being served. We told the waitress that we were in a hurry and had about 50 minutes at that point. It took her 10 more minutes to get us coffee - three small cups that were never refilled for the rest of our time there. We ordered three sandwiches. After 20 minutes of waiting for those, I asked to pay the bill and have our food brought in boxes so we could eat on the road and not be late. I tipped generously thinking that this was asking something out of the ordinary. After 20 more minutes, our food never came, we had to leave. They said they would refund me. Never did. $40 for three very small awful cups of coffee and an hour of sitting around waiting. Do not support this establishment. This review will be removed when I am refunded.
Awesome service and great food
Service was good. Sandwich and burger were good. Fries not so good, greasy and tasted like their oil was old. Searched 5 tables for ketchup, all were near empty.

2022-05-15Stopped for lunch. Staff was friendly and provided very good service. The Philly steak and cheese sandwich was large in size and super good. We have been here several times and always have had great food and service.

2021-11-12Always drive past this bar/grill and on 11/12/21We stopped and walked in. Great bar atmosphere, clean and neat. The bartender ( male) greeted us promptly and took our order. We moved from a table to the bar, and the regulars were cordial and welcoming. One gentleman at the bar explained how to play Keno. We stayed only briefly, but we left realizing that it was a bar we would return in the future. Many thanks to the bartender and regulars for making our short visit memorable!Restrooms are spotless!

2021-08-31OK--I am torn between a good and bad review. The Alaskan Amber poured into a 32 oz. Frozen mug was the absolute best ever. The waitress was excellent and friendly. The food was a dissapointment. I love a good rueben so I asked a few questions and was encouraged by the responses. For 12 bucks or 6 bucks it was not good. The corned beef was shredded and fried and covered with a mix of saurkraut and melted cheese that seemed to be also fried together. All of this was piled on buttered and fried white bread. I was raised Downriver, so I was able to eat it. 2 days later my body is slowly recovering. I will be back. I will try something else while I enjoy my ice cold Alaskan Amber. It is a cool bar with nice friendly vibes. The corned beef sandwich needs work..
