Comment: I want to lodge a complaint about poor customer service. I rented blankets for 3 days and was overcharged for an extra day. They claimed it was a computer issue, but its a simple math mistake. They also threatened consequences if the blankets arent returned promptly, despite having my credit card on file during rental. I drove the 20 minutes there, they confirmed the computer was down and that they couldn’t. I really don’t think the Out of Order sign on the tank appeared during my 20 minute drive, but I suppose it’s possible.

Comment: First of all, the truck that I rent, with license plate, AG62554-AZ, is not fully functioning. The truck is working when I rent it at the store. When the truck is driven back to home, it is initially parked at my apartment’s shared parking lot. After a few minutes, I decide to move the truck to another location. My driver starts the engine of the truck and put it in D-gear. Surprisingly, the truck moves backward instead of forward! My driver quickly switches off the engine. My driver tries to start the truck after a few seconds, but the truck fails to start. My driver tries to start the engine a few more times but without success. After letting the truck to rest for around 5 minutes, my driver manages to start the truck. My driver drives the truck back to U-haul to exchange for another truck.My second problem is on the allocation of my 2 U-Box. On Apr 3, 2024, I reserve for 2 U-Box to be available at 1575 BAY SHORE BL, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94124 on Apr 28, 2024. On Apr 28, 2024, I come to this U-haul store at Bay Shore to collect my U-Box. However, the reception on that day is unable to let me access those U-box because the boxes are not scheduled! In the end, the reception has to make my get my U-Box from 1525 BRYANT ST, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94103These two incidents greatly affect my moving schedule and incur unwanted extra charges. I hope that the store will review these incidents and take necessary actions to improve the quality of service.

I normally do things at the last moment and dont make reservations. This location almost always has the type of vehicle I need. The customer service I receive is always top-notch. The agents are personable, kind, professional, and very thoughtful. For example, today my representative Carol was thoughtful enough to find the most accessible car with a full tank of gas. Comment: Update: 1 month later and the GM is still too chicken to actually call me back. I will be continuing my credit card dispute.Staff canceled my trailer reservation and I had to call and remake it while in the middle of packing my truck. The tow dolly I received required multiple repairs resulting in about 6 hours of delays during my move and some very frightening highway pull offs. Staff was friendly but not very organized at all and the general manager has still not called to discuss my concerns despite my report made Friday afternoon. Also the links for the walk around inspections expired before I ever got a chance to see the equipment so I was unable to change mileage and report the issues at the initial location.

Comment: Going to a U-Haul on a weekend is crazy. But this particular location on Bayshore in San Francisco was a good experience. All of the workers there were so patient even though they were so busy. I especially need to give a shout out to Michael in the equipment yard who was running all over the place and yet still so helpful to us. Come with a lot of patience, but be assured they will get what you need. Highly recommend.

Comment: Ordered a 10 ft. Van with a tow dolly. There was no assistance in installation until someone saw us trying to YouTube instructions in their parking lot. Only one safety chain was properly equipped and after arriving at another UHaul we found that they sent us off with balding, torn tires on the dolly, torn straps, and unsafe conditions. It’s pretty incredible that they can charge so much for an unsafe and uncaring experience. I’d rather throw away all my stuff than use them again.

Comment: I am actually going to create a ticket to dispute some of the charges. It was TERRIBLE. I booked a 10feet truck at the Bryant st location exactly for its easy street parking (to leave our car at). I opted for the mobile check in. All it said is that you will need the app and a well charged mobile device. Then I start doing the pick up steps and it asks for passport??? (who carries that with themselves)/ work connect(whos gonna pick up on a Saturday?)/friend(luckily I had that but it still makes time to get them available). This should be noted ahead, I would have carried my passport.So after like 20 minutes is gone and my friend has confirmed me, I get a call that that location doesnt have the truck we booked (what? online said its available) and we have to drive 15 minutes to a new location, where we couldnt find easy parking and then mobile pick up no longer works and I had to wait 30 minutes in line (the lady who called also modified the reservation to two days and wrong drop off time instead of one).So overall terrible experience, we were more than an hour late and we had hired help for 2 hours, and we lost one. So UHaul should refund some of the charges, because you can barely call this a service...

Comment: I rent a truck for burning man. I understand that some burners are not as conscientious as I am, but I do not appreciate the scare tactics corporate employs. I return trucks I rent cleaner than when I receive them, which is especially true this time as the truck I received was filthy inside and out.Receiving a call a day or two after I place the order telling me that the truck is not actually reserved until 3 days prior to my pick up is not ok. The truck is either rented or it isnt. I understand that there may be some fluctuation with trucks going out of service for various reasons at the last minute. That warning should be given to those who rent the last 10% of trucks available on a last come, last served basis; not to every truck rental for Burning Man.I found all the staff at this specific location extremely nice and helpful. I particularly appreciate the help I received when I changed the size of the truck I needed in the last month.

Comment: 1. The truck reservation was confirmed but not scheduled (?!). Which meant that it wasn’t at the location at which I had reserved it online. It was available at another location across town. Both locations were pleasant to deal with, but the reservation system seems pretty questionable. Lesson learned - call the location to confirm before you go.2. After the three-hour rental, I saw a charge on my credit card for over SEVEN THOUSAND dollars. Discovered it was for supposedly dropping it off at a location 2500 miles away. In 3 hours. Really? Several phone calls later it got straightened out, but still sorting out what it means for my credit card. Lesson learned - get a paper receipt and check it carefully before leaving.Otherwise the rental went well, everyone we dealt with was pleasant and the equipment was in excellent condition. A little hard to rate highly after such a significant (and absurd!) error. Leaving three stars for them addressing it fairly quickly and pleasantly, and recognizing that we should have been more careful.

Comment: While the folks working at this location were all patient and kind (the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review), the logistical operations are terrible. I had to wait 30 mins in line before being helped, then it took another hour to give me the correct trailer. Two of the 5x8 trailers had incorrect license plates, so I was offered a 6x12 trailer upgrade at no extra charge. However, this trailer had a tire blowout on the highway and when the mechanic came to fix it, all of the tires had low air pressure, which likely caused the blowout in the first place. There are obvious maintenance updates to your processes that you need to make and/or follow. Roadside assistance was pretty prompt in helping, luckily, but this experience soured me on U-Haul and I will not be returning as a customer.

Comment: In general, U-Haul is bad at providing the ability to schedule a rental multiple months in advance. It seems they could learn from rental car companies about how to allow a rental to customers who plan well ahead. U-Haul does offer the customer a service person to request a rental months in advance, but the service person is not enabled the power to confirm such a rental request until about 2-3 weeks in advance. Honestly, I would have been willing to pay extra just to have a 100% confidence that my rental will be provided when Im scheduling months in advance. In this case, I got lucky, and I got my rental confirmed about 2 weeks in advance, but meant there was a bit of logistics worry for the months until I got my confirmation. Specific to this location - it is very good, so Im giving it 5-stars even through U-Haul central needs to improve its reservation ability. Everyone at this location is very nice and seem to have solid expertise in each of their job roles. Well done Bay Shore U-Haul, and my U-Haul phone service person :-)

Comment: Booked a truck for 9am, but when the confirmation came the day before, the pickup time had moved to 10:15am. When I called the following morning to double check, I was incorrectly told that there would be no problem picking up the truck at 9:30am. When we arrived, not only was there no truck ready, the truck we were supposed to be renting had not even been returned yet. We had to drive to another location 15 minutes away to pick up the truck. This entire process took so long that we had to overpay the movers (who were scheduled to arrive at 10am) to stay past their time to actually finish loading the truck ($120 extra). Needless to say, Uhauls incompetence made this perhaps the worst and most stressful moving experience weve ever had, let alone the added cost.

Again they said it would only take 30 min to finish and they had my vehicle for another 5 hours. Then when I go to pick up the trailer it isnt ready at my pick up time and I end up waiting around for 2 hours until they said it was ready. When we go to hook it up the trailer, the wiring on the trailer is bad, so they spend the next 30 min trying to figure out if they can give me a different trailer. I made these reservations months ago, there shouldnt have been any reason for my rentals to not be ready for me. If I can help it I will never return to this location. The people are kind, but extremely slow.

Comment: My family rented trucks from there for moving before but I don’t realize how massive it is until I went in today. Had an excellent experience here refilling propane. They are the life savers. I need it urgently and the other spot I normally go near by isn’t open at the time. I first didn’t realize they refill and sells propane tanks at all. Found it randomly out of desperation and was grateful for it. Albert helped me refill and Evette helped me at the counter.

All the workers were working including the manger. The manger said they don’t rent trucks past 7p.m but our confirmation said be there at 7p.m. They wouldn’t help us, we tried to exit and a husky truck was blocking the exit the worker said “we are closed” I asked where is the exit? Comment: Ordered a cargo van online in advance to save time and attempted to use the mobile pickup function on the app. This was a huge waste of time because the app obviously had not gone through QA as it could not recognize a phone number then kept getting stuck with an error message on the alternate contact after the info had been cleared and we were using passport to verify. Tried to troubleshoot this several times ourselves and went to the counter. The two reps at the counter couldnt care less and did not try to help. After 30 min of trying to pick up the car we pre ordered, the app crashed completely and we ultimately had to cancel and start over with a new reservation. Complete waste of time, useless staff with attitude, and overall a terrible experience. Spare yourself and avoid this place

First off when I walked in to receive the equipment the uhaul staff was like we have no more furniture dolly. But they did. Uhaul staff did not want to go outside to really see because it was raining. I went right behind them to see because this was a reservation not a walk up. My things should have been held to the side as well as the Rental Truck. I saw not just my equipment which was 2 dollys, but I saw 😳 3. I grabbed mines and brought them to the cashier and said they were there the whole time. These Uhaul workers need to step up their customer service skills. Preferably needs retraining. This place is convenient, but I will go out my way in another direction rather than to deal with lazy, unprofessional hoodrats and hoodlums. Uhal staff even hung up in my face when I called with an inquiry about the hold on the funds. They were talking loud and laughing before putting me on hold and 3 seconds after that taking it off hold and disconnecting the phone call. I called back, Uhaul answered, and before anything was said uhal switched mr to a totally different automated voice answering machine. Im done with this place......

Uhaul swindled me.Whatever low monthly rate theyre showing you online its a lie. $85/month became $125/month when I couldnt do anything about it because I had movers waiting and a truck full of my stuff.I booked a unit that I confirmed online and then when I got there with my movers and my truck (that had been unloaded while I waited 30 min in line to speak to someone) they told me my reservation did not exist and they had no units of the size I booked at their facility at all. That unit size wasnt even an option there. After nearly an hour of back and forth at the counter where at one point they tried to force me to take a Ubox at another location (passing me off) they found a locker stacked on top of another locker that you could only access through a moving staircase. They claimed it was their last locker. I had to pay my movers an extra $120 an hour because all their moving time had been eaten up by this fiasco. When the facility gave me the final paper work the rate I had received online was NOT what they put on this contract. $85/month had become $125/month. I was trapped at that point. Im leaving town the next day and I had no other choice. 3 other people had breakdowns while I was there because Uhaul had taken their money and not provided the service they paid for. None of the employees seem to have any Customer Service autonomy, cant provide refunds, cant comp vans, cant book you another unit, only the manager can & surprise, HES NOT THERE.

Comment: When I originally came to Uhaul a few days days before my move, I told the female rep that I wanted to rent a truck, but I dont drive, however I wanted to reserve the truck and have the person driving come pick it up with his license. I was told I couldnt rent the truck yet but would have to bring my driver with me the day I was going to rent it have him show his ID, and rent the truck, and I would pay for it.But when we got there all the trucks had been reserved (the rep never told me this was the busy time of the month, otherwise I wouldve had my driver out there a week before so I could rent the truck I wanted) and I could only get a cargo van which was way too small for all my furniture, etc.I asked to use the Uhaul parking lot to park the van overnight after my move, because my driver lives in Antioch and it would be easier for him to leave the van here, instead of driving. The manager incorrectly told us there was no parking available, even though one of his subordinates said there was, after which he reluctantly agreed. But by this point wed been in the store for over an hour, everyone was irritated....we were ready to go and the reps did not hide the fact they were ready for us to be gone.Because the cargo van was so small and we werent able to get parking, the van had to make several trips to and from Antioch and to my apartment. Ultimately, Im disappointed the bill was so high because I think better communication on the part of the Uhaul reps wouldve helped the situation.

They were happy to take my info and card information and told me I can drop it off 24/7 but when I got to the location they told me they dont take after hours dropoffs. I was flexible and said I would drop it off in the morning. Then I was told my truck (rated 8600lbs towing capacity) cant tow my car (3200lbs). I guess their trailers weigh 6000lbs??? I wasted a few hours prepping. If I was at least told in the beginning then I wouldnt have wanted my time. Comment: Deceitful practices as others have pointed out. Good luck if you do an overnight drop off. They charged for fuel even though it was full, cleaning even though it was cleaned, and 36 extra blankets that were never physically in the truck. They also messed up my order and I had to wait 40 minutes for a different truck during a time crunch.

Comment: If I could give a 0 star rating, I would.I booked a room online. When I got to the facility a the end of the month as I said I would, they had no record of this. (This makes me wonder - why bother filling out your forms online if it saves NO time and effort. Oh, and where is all my billing info sent to then?)The room I got had a building post inside it, taking up about half the space. The discount I got for this inconvenience was $5/month.I had all my stuff ready to move in...it was the end of the month so I wasnt prepared to turn around and leave when I thought I was getting the room I chose on the website. So frustrating.Complaints by phone and email were ignored.More bad service: At the time I showed up and filled out paper work (AGAIN) when moving in, I asked for the bill to be auto-billed. That wasnt ever set up on their side, so I got hit with a late fee! I had no way of knowing that part (their part) wasnt done, so I think this highly unfair. Again no management available on site, no response from corporate or local management.Ive already moved my stuff out after a month. Long lines, slow slow slow response - like none from location manager and one email from headquarters 2 weeks after I complained by email and phone. No reversal of charges that were unfairly billed. Really bad experience. STAY AWAY.

Comment: Dreadful experience end to end.- Call center got everything about my booking incorrect: Scheduled a pickup for 1 of 3 UBoxes a day in advance, Booked a lighter load truck than required, didnt book the trailer type I needed, told me I could return boxes to a location that I couldnt.- Arrived at 7am with contractor and 1 of two staff members on desk didnt show up to work until 7:15am, so the queue was very long. She proceeded to grunt single word directives at customers (Contract?....License....) She made it very clear to all customers that she was annoyed to be out of bed that early. Several customers made comments about her - The young woman wearing Cleopatra makeup and acrylic fingernails as long as your arm). After the queue died down she got out her energy drink, youghurt and granola and proceeded to eat breakfast at the customer service counter.- The mileage and fuel on the paperwork produced by the aboove young woman didnt match the truck we were given and she didnt care about the inconvenience of correcting that at all.The whole experience cost me several hundred dollars in wasted contractors fees due to additional travel and having to swap trucks etc - The saving grace was the manager at Uhaul Redwood, Nicolas, who managed to find a solution against all odds.If you have ANY alternative to UHaul available, then I suggest you take it.

They eventually found us the truck we needed and offered us a discount but the stress beforehand was not worth it. Just be prepared for the worst.

Comment: This place is full of unmannered employees that dont give a crap about the customers. I was treated harshly. When I returned the trailer the employee didnt care to call it in and they tried to charge me for an extra day and I had to personally go back to deal with it. They ended up fixing my problem by charging me the correct amount, but the return date was not changed to the proper one. Everyone I dealt with was unmannered and unfriendly. Never coming to this place again.

Comment: Amazing! I rented an airstream and did not know that I didnt have the light hook up. Got me in that day and saved me about half as much as the custom Honda adapter would of costed. Everyone there was super helpful!

Comment: I would like to give zero stars, but that is not an option!I have finally given up and have gone somewhere else to get a my hitch installed for a bike rack. I had an appointment February 20th to get it installed- When I got there they apologized and said they couldnt find the specific one in stock. They ordered and I came back 5 days later for my appointment- Wrong hitch sent. I have left so many messages for Julio the manager to see if the hitch had come in like they said it would. I have never got a call back or no follow through has ever happened. Everyone I have talked to on the phone has been quite pleasant, but I am so incredibly frustrated that I have waited this long with no service.

Comment: They checked in the Uhaul truck we dropped off, BUT NOT the trailer that we dropped off at their location. Now 40 days later I have uhaul sending me an email to saying the trailer has not been checked in.Good thing we took pictures of the truck and trailer dropped off at their location. Ive called U-haul customer support 6 or so times to try and get a hold of a Rep who can confirm the trailer had indeed been dropped off.Guess what, reps hung up on me and Candlestick has yet to leave a message or return my call. This experience with Uhaul has been extremely disappointing.

Comment: I wish I could rate this with -5 stars. I question my judgment for not driving away immediately, however, I did cancel my order before even using them. Fortunately, I had enough wits to go to another location, namely the one at 5500 Mission St, where the service was amazing.I went here in the first place, btw, since I went to another location and they told me to go here since they had after-hours drop-off (they do, but they told me not to park my car outside the gate since it could very likely be robbed)Here are my main points:-This place is the definition of seedy; this place makes the Tenderloin look like Nob Hill-There is a huddle of people hanging outside the place who will harass you to try to help you move-The workers here clearly dont give a !@#$; I waited 20 min for them to pull a cargo van out for me, gave up (combined with the fact that the place scared me), and canceled my order-The workers all look like ex (or current) cons-The workers intentionally underestimate the mileage to places so that the estimate seems lower

Comment: Clever and deceitful. She asked how far away I was going (for the mileage estimate). I told them I was driving to Campbell and back. They said it was about 50 miles to Campbell (thats about right) and put that down as the estimated mileage, though they knew I was returning the truck back to this location. It was my responsibility to realize that they didnt include the mileage back, but it was a very deceitful practice. Guess Im too trusting/naïve.When I returned the truck I followed the signs for truck return until they disappeared. I went into the main building to return the keys and they told me I had to drive the truck to another location and someone would check me out. I drove the truck there and there was nobody waiting. I left the truck and walked the 320 feet back to the office and told them nobody was there. She said the person just walked into the office and was walking back to the drop-off location to meet me. I walked the 320 feet back to the truck. Very disorganized.I will not be going back.

Comment: DONT USE THIS UHAUL!! (Penske is not far away and is better, cheaper, they have nicer staff, and newer vehicles).I reserved a truck over a week before a move to the S. Bay. U-Haul emailed me the day before our move and said, Sorry, we dont have the truck you reserved (or any others around that size) so we changed your reservation to Concord, CA. I explained that Concord would require 2+ hrs of driving the day of our move and they recommended Oakland.I reluctantly reserved a much smaller truck in Oakland for 7:30 am. At 7:45 the Oakland U-Haul called and said they didnt have a truck either - they hoped 11 am would work.Thankfully Penske (maybe 2 miles from this location) had a perfect truck that they charged us 1/2 of the U-Haul price for. They didnt charge extra for moving blankets or a dolly. Amazing experience.BELIEVE THE WARNINGS OF BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE - GO TO PENSKE INSTEAD!

Comment: How can a company have such terrible customer service and still be in business. I was yelled at by the manager when I arrived at the location because there was no where to park my truck and he told me I parked in the wrong place. I then asked the lady at the teller window if this was they treated all of their customers and she told me that it was common sense and I should know better where to park. Then they punished me by making me wait until they would check me out. I have never witnessed such a lack of respect for a customer. I wish I could post 0 stars.

Comment: Dropped off my Rental after driving cross country and ended up using storage for about half a year. The downside was storage did not have 24/hr access, although I really never needed it. Returning a 17 ft. rental couldnt have been easier. The penalty for going over milage and time were so minimal, well worth it.
